Reviews for Grand Park Otaru
Review 1:No particular bad experience neither any out of its way.
Review 2:hotel is well situated. That's the only reason for paying to stay at this hotel. overall hotel cleanliness is good (most of the tourist hotels in Japan upheld this standard). check in & check out is a breeze.
Review 3:Breakfast buffet quality was below expectation for Japanese selection food.
Review 4:Location being the same building as Aeon is very convenient for food and shopping. View to beach was excellent overlooking the snow covered vessels
Review 5:Room is nice, size is very good, very clean, excellent staff service. Hotel located at waterfront with good views, within large shopping mall with many good restaurants/eateries. Although you have to take a short train ride to Otaru canal area the train station is within comfortable/sheltered walking distance. Value for money hotel.
Review 6:The room is nice and comfort. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel located near to Otaru Minami Station. Annexed to AEON Shopping mall and a outlet.
Review 7:The hotel restaurant was pricey. We ate there once and our food was ok. The value was too high and very small portions. There are other better options at the mall.
Review 8:The location of this hotel is excellent. It is connected to a mall where you can access restaurants, coffee places, etc. it is very close to the train station. The hotel is very clean, friendly staff, nice views.
Review 9:Service and Facility is like 3 star Hotel. All decoration is already old-dated and need renovation, especially the carpet.
Review 10:Location of the Hotel connected with the Train Station
Review 11:Comparing the facilities, the price is a bit high. No staff help to take care of the luggages.
Review 12:Good location, just near JR station. Convenient to go to OTARU and Sapporo.
Review 13:None that I can think of.
Review 14:Very helpful and resourceful staff. Co-connected with shopping centre made it a one-stop hotel for everything! Superb view from any side.
Review 15:not in main Otaru area. Check in lady was extremely unhelpful. We asked whether it was possible to walk to the canal, she said, no it's very far. And when we asked how to get there, she just continued to look at her computer and didn't bother to give any recommendations. Real put off. We were also given a smoking room and were not even asked for our preference. Needless to say, it smelled.
Review 16:Big room, and connected to Otaruchikko station
Review 17:Guest service manager is extremely helpful and friendly. They give you a warm welcome and make you feel like home. Comfortable room and bed. Next to Aeon and super home.
Review 18:There was no bell service when we drove to the hotel. We need to pick up our luggage after parking.
Review 19:The room and view are excellent. The front desk and staff are nice and helpful.
Review 20:But it is a 5-8 min taxi drive away from the center of Otaru and major tourist attraction sites.
Review 21:The hotel is adjacent to Aeon shopping mall which makes it quite convenient.
Review 22:We've got a sea view room at an early bird discount price. The location is a stone throw away from the JR station and a shopping mall. The view is awesome. Every morning we woke up to a beautiful view facing the Sea of Japan! Breathtaking! !
Review 23:Nothing really but it would have been nice if the big window screen in the room was cleaned often to allow clearer vision of the hills.
Review 24:Located within a huge shopping/supermarket and right next to Otaruchikko mrt station. Grand Park Otaru is a mighty fine hotel so much so that I was chided by my soulmate for not arranging a longer stay than our 2 nights.
Review 25:The hotel didn't provide some basic need. There isn't a single bottle of drinking water been complimented.
Review 26:Near to the bay and have a nice view.
Review 27:Location is quite off the main downtown area. Need to drive about 2km to main shopping and dining belt of otaru.
Review 28:Nice hotel with a great view of the ocean. Convenient to have shopping mall attached.
Review 29:Have to drive out to the main attractions
Review 30:Great hotel attached to a huge shopping centre, it was great!Bathroom much larger than Japan average, just like a normal Western room
Review 31:received confirmation for a non-smoking room with king size bed but hotel offered smoking room, later changed to non-smoking but only twin bed left, and booking.com and the hotel insist that non smoking is a unimportant preference subject to availability so the hotel has no obligation to guarantee that a non-smoking room will be provided.
Review 32:nice location with access to the shopping more
Review 33:I would like to Thank Mr.Cheong for his services towards us. Due to language problem, he speaks fluent english and understands us, that helps alot. They have great services and friendliest staff.
Review 34:None.
Review 35:The staff were helpful, the room was clean and spacious, the sea-view was good despite the unstable weather, on top of all, it has a shopping mall next to it, which makes dining and shopping very convenient.
Review 36:Nothing
Review 37:We met with typhoon 23 on 8th Oct 2015, so we are unable to go sightseeing. But we are still able to go shopping and have out meals because the hotel is connected to the shopping complex with shopping, supermarket and resturants. Room is big
Review 38:Although the location is a bit further away from the main tourist attraction of Otaru Town, we did not find this to be a problem as others have noted - a cab ride from the hotel to Otaru Town is only 5 minutes and costs roughly $4-5 US dollars at the most.
Review 39:Helpfulness of the staff - especially, Mr. Cheong, the Concierge, who spoke excellent English and assisted us in directions, places to see, etc. The hotel is situated in the middle of a vast shopping complex which provides numerous restaurants to choose from for lunch and dinner. The hotel is located within a ten minute walking distance to the train station. Rooms were larger than we expected.
Review 40:You cannot easily get to the main area in Otaru. You'll need a car if you don't want to walk the 20-min walk. Parking is extra but you get in-and-out privilege.
Review 41:We upgraded our room and got a higher floor one that faced the water. The view was worth it.
Review 42:It was a little far from Otaru center but we were prepared for that. It feels a little dated but I want it to survive.
Review 43:Very nice. Felt like it was trying to be a Park Hyatt. Great value and view.
Review 44:Nothing to complain specifically
Review 45:Room size is good, facing the sea, good view. Breakfast is very good, a lots of choices, people works there are efficient with smiling faces
Review 46:The food at the Japanese restaurant on B1th floor is quite slow and not tastety .Waiters cannot communicate in English but they are all lovely and have very good service mind.
Review 47:Nice view and impressive welcome !!!! Especially Staffs , They are all helpful !!! Will stay here again next trip.
Review 48:Public bath a bit too far from hotel, takes 10 minutes and walk through the shopping mall. Location a bit far from Otaru central area.
Review 49:Spacious room with excellent view, lots of parking space
Review 50:It's a little too far from Otaru city center, but if you like walking - it's about 20 minutes... (There is also a Bus going)
Review 51:Breakfast Buffet!! View from Breakfast room, room comfort Nice place to go around if you have a car.
Review 52:The mattress is a bit aging.
Review 53:Location is good. It is just 5 min taxi ride from major attractions in Otaru and cost around 1000 jpy for the taxi ride. Next to a mall. Nice view. Worth getting a room facing the harbour. Very quiet.
Review 54:None
Review 55:The rooms were very spacious, especially the triple room which has three comfy beds, bathroom were not the cubicle kind and everything was clean and looked new. We had ocean facing rooms which gave spectacular views. The front reception staff were very professional and friendly. When we had a bit of log-on problem with wifi, a smiling staff immediately arrived - that was splendid service. The buffet breakfast had great variety and quality.
Review 56:we requested for connecting room but no connecting room for us. they should have mailed to us if they couldn't provide connecting for us but they didn't.
Review 57:Hard beds, totally clueless staff - didn't even know what wasavailable in the mall the hotel was embedded in, let alone furtherafield! Facilities were poor - again, common in Japan, no gym or pool.
Review 58:Not actually in Otaru at all, but located two stops from Otaru. No ideawhy no other reviewers have even mentioned this. However, it's rightinside a mall that, while it closes quite early, is reasonable forshopping and eating.
Review 59:We hv booked this hotel w breakfast mainly because of the great view of the restaurant, but we were put to seat nr the entrance of the restaurant, the farest side from the window
Review 60:Generally good
Review 61:The location is not near the tourist areas like Otaru Canal so only good if you drive. But I think they got a shuttle bus that leaves at scheduled times. We went for dinner at the restaurant at second level. The staff serving us was very cold and unfriendly. Do not order the chawan mushi or Japanese steamed egg. It tasted very weird like the wrong sauce was used to cook it. But their beef steak was delicious, very tender and juicy.
Review 62:The ocean view was nice and the room was big and comfortable. Most staff were friendly and helpful. Location is next to a shopping mall but it closes exactly at 9pm.
Review 63:We indicated the request for 3 persons in a room but it was declined through the booking.com, citing that there was not enough space to add an additional bed for an adult. But, the twin room that we booked actually are quite spacious & we saw 2 other rooms of the same size having been fitted with an additional bed as we walked pass other rooms before we did the check out. Think that there should be same treatment for booking via book.com or other means
Review 64:The location is slightly far and the shopping mall connecting to it closes early but the hotel is comfortable enough that it doesn't matter much.
Review 65:The staff was friendly and helped with alot of the problems we faced. Especially when flight was cancelled due to poor visibility they were able to reduce the days easily just by calling them (they have an English speaking staff at reservations in the morning.)
Review 66:When i reached the hotel in my rented car, I need to carry off 6 big suitcases myself without any help from the hotel. No one was at the area waiting at all. Absolutely surprised by it. Hotel look was dated and the pillow for th b r was really bad.
Review 67:Hotel location was ok. It was self sufficient with azeon, factory outlet stores, children indoor playground attached to it. Good for business travellers.
Review 68:Only the buffet restaurant was open on a Saturday night at 8pm. Japanese teppanyaki was closed. Had to go out to find food
Review 69:Nothing in particular to like or dislike. Room was clean.
Review 70:- We booked for 2 triple non-smoking rooms, but was given smoking rooms instead. When confronted, the staff said that smoking preference was not guaranteed. He further added that reserving rooms from Booking.com can't be trusted with our room choice as the website was at times inaccurate. What a let-down !! - Staff were not as helpful, no initiative, did not offer help unless being asked. - Hotel is also not near to any tourists attraction.
Review 71:Connected to a mall. But the mall seems very dated.
Review 72:It wasn't very close to otaru but one day is enough to explore otaru anyway & the train is very accessible.
Review 73:This hotel was our favourite during our 2 week holiday in Japan. The rooms are big, beds are comfy and staff are great.
Review 74:In low season in May buses route from hotel to Otaru canal are close jr and taxi are only transportation to the city.
Review 75:Big clean room. The hotel connect to two department stores which is quite convenience and the subway is just walk through the department store about 10 minutes.
Review 76:Booked non-smoking rooms but was horrified to be given smoking rooms which was terrible for me as i'm extremely sensitive. Ended up having to move to non-smoking the 2nd night. Though they were nice enough to give me another facing which then made it slightly better since i got to experience both views.
Review 77:Near the outlet mall.
Review 78:We book a non smoking but they put us in a smoking room, when we request for change room to non smoking room, they give us a downgraded non smoking room, insisting the hotel is fully book,
Review 79:The front desk officer Mr.kasakure very helpfull and very good service, a gem in a lackluster hotel.
Review 80:they need to check or renew the mattress, still ok but everything can be better
Review 81:very friendly and helpful staff convenient with shopping plaza downstairs well connected with JR beautiful harbor view
Review 82:Excellent breakfast with good choices. Very clean and confortable rooms. Excellent and very polite staff who did speak some english . Nice view of Otaru and Bay from room.
Review 83:Underground car park was available for a reasonable overnight rate. The concierge, Mr. Cheong, was very helpful and knowledgable. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was well equiped. It was convenient to have an adjoining shopping centre.
Review 84:The only thing we can think of is the hot/cold water outlets in the bathroom. It will be better if there is one combined outlet than 2 outlest for hot cold water.
Review 85:Everything!! Big thanks to the Staff Cheong who recommended us to take a beautiful route to the Hot spring area via Asari. It gave us the best experience in Hokkaido for this trip!!
Review 86:no where to get food after 10 as there are no 7-11 around and hotel do not serve food after 10 and no room service for drinks and food
Review 87:Great view Great staff - very friendly and helpful Spacious room Less then 5min walk to train station in door or outdoor Supermarket in the building
Review 88:The stuffs are professional and the bed was very comfortable, although the hotel os not located right at the tourist area the property is linked to large shopping malls.
Review 89:Great great location. Near the shopping mall, great view!! The room is big enough!! (compare to other Sapporo hotel) Definetely be my first choice if I ever go back to Otaru.
Review 90:Hotel is quite far from town, you have to take 2 more stations to the main Otaru area.
Review 91:We walked through the mall to get into hotel, it is quite convenience.
Review 92:The room was very spacious and amazing views. The bed was huge and very comfortable. Great location. Attached to the aeon mall so plenty to see and plenty of restaurants. The staff were great. All so friendly and helpful. Special mention to Mr Cheong who went out of his way to help us in any way. Can we move in??
Review 93:Luckily, the manager can speak english and had helped us to make calls to train station when we had left our bag in train. At last, we got back our bag! thanks to grand park's manager. We really appreciate it.
Review 94:Signs from the train station directed us to walk outside the mall where we had a harder time rolling our luggage on sandy snow/ice. Little did we know that we could have walked through the mall during opening hours and the outside path is only needed after hours.
Review 95:Beautiful view from the ocean view room; deluxe double room was spacious; fairly close to otaruchikko station and connected to a shopping mall
Review 96:No 24 hours room service - such a surprise for such a big hotel. And the nearest 7-11 is about 15 mins walk away (which can be terrible during winter). In the end, I had to cook my own instant noodles which I bought prior. In this hotel, you also have to pay for the facilities (eg. gym).
Review 97:Comfortable room size. Beside a big shopping mall and JR station.
Review 98:This hotel is in Otaru Chikko not Otaru city. It's about 3kms away from Otaru city. Cost you ¥210 one way for the train. Cab is about ¥1200 Even it says non smoking level, you still can smell the cigarettes.
Review 99:Literally, the hotel is in a shopping mall. Nice view. 5 mins walk to JR Otaru chikko station.
Review 100:A bit far from the city, but it did not bother us as we were there only for a night and we had a car
Review 101:We stayed in the ocean facing room and rhe view was impressive as it overlooked the sea shores and a marina. We were there in winter, and I am sure it will look more stunning in hotter seasons
Review 102:a good hotel with good location near the Otaruchikko station, convenient access to shopping and dining, great view of mountain, night city lights and the ocean on both sides of the building. And the rate is fare enough for its quality and things mentioned above. Will stay for my next visit to Otaru.
Review 103:easy for walk in walk way to reach hotel while snow, shopping center is around . but must take train to the Otaru ,can't walk. the staff change room for us immediately when we found that it's not non smoking room.
Review 104:If you arrived after the attached shopping mall closed at 8:00pm you would have to either walk to the front door or to the side entrance behind the hotel. In the winter, with the ice, neither was a fun experience. Also, the area is completely residential except for the attached mall.
Review 105:The room was clean and the staff was friendly. The hotel's breakfast was very nice with a wide selection of western and Japanese cuisine.
Review 106:The staff at the hotel were very friendly and willing to help with anything. Everyone I encountered was courteous and they made our family feel very welcome.
Review 107:The mall closes at 8pm.. No hospitality suite for international travelers. (late flights). I had to fly after skiing with no shower... Had to pay for parking each night.. for 13 days..
Review 108:Soo many food options! pretty much everything you need/want right in the mall/Wing Bay. Staff was very on point and courteous. Willing to explain things outside of normal procedures.
Review 109:I LIKE that hotel link to aeon department store and JR otaru chikko ,very very comfort transformation ,you can go to otaru canal by JR local train just two station .
Review 110:The breakfast fare was a bit pricey considering the limited choice available.
Review 111:The convenience of the hotel to Otaruchikko Station. The hotel rooms were also spacious and well maintained. Service was excellent.
Review 112:Location is not so close to Otaru main streets but it is still walkable (20-30 mins. Depends on weather!). If weather is bad or you are not in the mood to walk you can always take a taxi or train. :)
Review 113:Very comfortable room. Hotel was connected to the big shopping mall and station. It was very convenient. :)
Review 114:I reserve a superior double room, but still give me a twin room with 2 small single beds. The beds are very uncomfortable.
Review 115:walking distance to train station. view is awesome from high level room.
Review 116:Just two stops away from Otaru. Locates close to station with shopping stores around. YAMADA, MUJI, AEON... quite good
Review 117:The hotel was far from the Otaru canal and other attractions.
Review 118:Everything you'd need on a trip is provided by the hotel. Very clean and spacious rooms with adequate amenities. It is located adjacent to a mall.
Review 119:There are 2 stations from Otaru. It would be looked like a long way if you need to carry the bags after crazy shopping in Otaru.
Review 120:The price is good for budget traveller. There is a shopping mall downstairs, full of restaurants and shops. The ocean view from the room is excellent. The room is comfortable and big.
Review 121:It's quite a distance to walk from Otaruchikku station passing through Wing Bay mall to the hotel especially with luggages.
Review 122:The Wing Bay Mall & Aeon next to the hotel make it very convenient to have meals & buy a few things or snacks. Our room with ovean view was beautiful
Review 123:This hotel has access to an onsen, but the staff did not know much at all, except where it was located. They were unfamiliar with the times of operation and cost. We chose this hotel for the onsen and were very disappointed that we did not get to use it. Also, even with a discount, we felt the breakfast was too pricey.
Review 124:For the price we paid, this was an excellent hotel. The view we had from our room was excellent and relaxing after a busy day of sight-seeing. The hotel location was also excellent.
Review 125:excellent for everything. very helpful staff. Big room compare to other Japanese hotels and beautiful view. On the top of a shopping mall. 30 mins walk to canal zone.
Review 126:It is not located at the Otaru main area. Need to take a bus or the train to the Otaru main station. It's around 8 mins walk to the Otaruchikkou station where you can take the train to Otaru or Sapporo.
Review 127:The staff were very polite and helpful. The bed was so comfortable. The room size is also one of the bigger ones throughout my stay in Japan.
Review 128:No free parking. Information on bus to town was incomplete, causing usto take additional trip in wrong direction.
Review 129:View from the room, English speaking staff, friendly and helpfulstaff. Parking fee was reasonable. Spacious room considering it wasJapan. Connected to shopping mall. Request for cot acceded to andprepared in advance.Did I mention the view towards the marina? Hahaha
Review 130:A bit far from the canal area where all the activities seem to be at.
Review 131:Comfortable and spacious room with a wonderful view of the marina at the bay. Hotel is connected to a mall with big Aeon supermarket and plenty of restaurants.
