Reviews for Pousada Convento de Evora
Review 1:We had a great deal of trouble finding the place because the name on the facade of the hotel did not match the name on our booking. In the warren of narrow cobblestone streets, this left us feeling frustrated on arrival.
Review 2:The hotel staff was very helpful and the restaurant was excellent.
Review 3:It was January, in a convent! It was cold, however waiting staff did offer us a blanket each at dinner. Excellent meal and service impeccable, and we could see the funny side. The upgrade suite I was offered by Booking.com didn't happen. The basic room was very small and we were cold, but the staff did come to us to remedy this.Tip....don't go in January!
Review 4:The building is quite magnificent, in a marvellous location. Very well furnished and the staff very friendly.
Review 5:none
Review 6:Loved the ambiance and the decor. The location was perfect and the room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was also very good with many choices.
Review 7:Cells rather small for two people. The shower over the roll-top bath was a disaster. When the curtains were drawn for the shower, there was no access to the shower gel, etc, other than move the curtain. The first night, we flooded the floor. The shower head was non-functional, without taking it off it's support.
Review 8:The situation and the novelty of being a Convent previously. Breakfast area was good and the breakfast was excellent
Review 9:We had a room on the top floor. There was no elevator access and thestairwell was very small and curved so it was difficult to move theluggage. We stayed at other historic hotels that had added an elevatorwhich was much appreciated.
Review 10:The ambience was wonderful.
Review 11:Problem with the air/ heating unit & when turned on black soot fell on desk! Reported it when we left, as only here one night!
Review 12:The Pousada's location & staff in dining room, especially, very friendly!! The choice for breakfast was excellent & included in price of room! Rainy day & umbrellas offered!
Review 13:The rooms are aptly named cells and are very small. The noise from student initiation week seemed to take place right under our cell window until quite late at night.
Review 14:The public rooms are beautifully presented and have atmosphere. Dining area is around the central courtyard and the food is excellent. Breakfast had a large variety. Plenty to do in Evora and an ideal hotel to use as a base.
Review 15:Nothing
Review 16:Excellent Pousada in Portugal with a lovely courtyard and interior decoration. It is just adjacent to the Roman pillars and the service of staff is very courteous. In contrary to the other Pousada in Obidos who just wanted to sell to clients for upgrade & ignored my initial request of rooms at reservation, this Pousada has got excellent service. Even the price of their restaurant is reasonable!
Review 17:One ground floor room was very long and narrow with no natural light or direct view outside. We asked for a different room and got one on the second floor, which was more standard. Too much money for what it is. Lots of late night drunken shouting could be heard until 3:00 am (might be because of its proximity to the university).
Review 18:Nicely renovated. Nice view from the second floor.
Review 19:Great staff, great breakfast, great location! A historic building in a wonderful area of Evora. Staff was very helpful with sights and directions. The building is unique and beautiful Swimming pool area is inviting as is the lounge/bar. I would definitely stay there again.
Review 20:The Pousada is absolutely perfect with a well preserved Roman Temple right outside the front door. The staff were helpful and enthusiastic. And we also had some free time to enjoy the beautiful pool. It was a wonderful place to stay.
Review 21:The room was rather small but it felt cozy and pleasant.
Review 22:We loved every moment of our stay. They have done a wonderful renovation/ transformation of this monastery into a jewelry hotel. Unique experience! Friendly staff. Clean. Excellent bed. Excellent restaurant.
Review 23:I really enjoyed the artwork that was displayed through out the hotel. Breakfast was very good as well. Very convenient location if staying within the city walls.
Review 24:Nothing except losing a hubcap visiting the megalithic site.
Review 25:Breakfast, great town, great staff, especially Juan helping with parking and luggage. Very friendly comfortable hotel
Review 26:I only dine, in the premise, once because menu has a lot to desire. Iwent once to place, nearby called "Fatia do Bife" and it is a6 stars and yours 0 star. Suggestion hire their "chef". Aclassic place like yours needs a classic/Gourmet meal, not a"enfarta burros". Also, I have a habit of having a beer and acake before going to bed. One night I was treated very nice by thebarman and I compensated him very well for the very good service.Another night was no barman. A front desk employee suggested me to waitor go to the pool bar. Another front desk employee, very strongly, stated that I could not and I should wait. I left right away, and I wasalmost sleeping when the phone rang offering the cake/beer???!!! Nothanks. I have employees It is not ethical to dis authorizes a coworker in front of client. For closing a great thank you for your"young porter" Joao Pedro (I believe to be his name). Carryour bags, through the stairs, parked our car, with a smile and out odhis way to help.
Review 27:Location and keeping property excellently
Review 28:Centrally located next to roman temple, forgot our camera there and the reception organized for it to be delivered at our hotel in Lisbon - Thank you!
Review 29:Bedroom was called a cell, and they are not kidding. The room was very basic, hard bed, plain walls, small, it felt like a prison cell. Cannot compare this Pousada to Spain's Paradors
Review 30:Meals were good, dinner and breakfast Ambience of hotel good with regard to interior and location ok.
Review 31:Our only negative was not due to the hotel or its staff. Our GPS took us to the hotel through very narrow medieval streets, and at one point down a pedestrian-only street. We learned later from the hotel staff that there is a much easier route. We suggest contacting the hotel or otherwise seeking better directions in advance.
Review 32:The location of the hotel in the middle of the old city and aside the old Roman ruins of the Temple of Diana made this the perfect choice for us. Everything was within easy walking distance. And, the hotel itself was lovely--a now luxury facility after being renovated from its early roots as a 14th century convent for monks.
Review 33:1. Room nr. 002 The room.to small and only a litle window without view. No furniture, no chair, a primitiv wardrobe. A realistic cell for poor monks. 2. No fresh meat or fish in the restaurant! All fish and meat was congetated. The vegetarian dishes very simple. In the most of the restaurants in Faro, Sagres, Tavira, Lisboa a choice of fresh fishes! Conclusion: very poor for a Pousada with this reputation!
Review 34:The historical look of the house. The location in the centre of the city. The royal breakfast.
Review 35:While the breakfast in hotel is excellent, be careful with menu during the dinner - some meals are too authentic, which means the poor-man food. I would recommend to go out at night (there is the open space "Patio" cafe just few hundred feet from hotel).
Review 36:Hotel is located in the historic center of Evora, on the hill top (Roman temple residuals just in front of hotel). The downtown is practically around the corner. Views are outstanding from any point. Besides the front door parking (mostly filled out), there is the parking on the back (drive around the museum counterclockwise), park in any available space (mostly blocking other cars - hotel stuff will move your car later) and you don't have to go upstairs with your luggage.
Review 37:My caveat is that the rooms are located directly over the restaurant (I could reach out the window and touch a diner if I wanted) which makes for a complete lack of privacy and a noisy environment.
Review 38:The hotel is very well located with parking. The property is historic and adds a lot of interest. The Roman ruin is prettily lit at night. The rooms are old and small which is often the case in a historic property. Be sure to ask to see the old ruins (the staff did not tell us about this!) that are part of the hotel. Breakfast was a typical buffet.
Review 39:Two tour groups were staying there and dominated the restaurant because of their numbers. they probably had 24 of the 34 rooms.
Review 40:We had a 2-room suite with a private courtyard and it was great. Location is wonderful. Don't miss Evora and this is the place to stay.
Review 41:This is one of Portugal's historic buildings that has been converted to a lovely hotel. It was a monastery from centuries past and is located next to the Roman ruins in the heart of the city. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 42:The staff was wonderful and most helpful. The Pousada is centrally located and the buffet breakfast lovely at tables around the interior patio. Easy to walk everywhere.
Review 43:The location is amazing, the pousada is gorgeous, the staff is great and the food is fantastic. What more can you say? We felt so relaxed just sitting in one of the many open spaces, enjoying the sun and snacks.
Review 44:Minor issue, tub drain leaked and flooded the bathroom a bit. They offered to move us to another room but liked our room so they gave us some extra towels to contain the water. We were happy with that.
Review 45:Wonderful experience all around. It is a beautifully renovated old building & in a great location. Very helpful & friendly staff. They made some great recommendations on where to eat to get good traditional local food. We had taken our laundry to the only self serve laundry place in Evora & the dryers broke down. One of the gentlemen at the front desk took our wet clothes to the hotel laundry & returned them to our room an hour later dry & folded! at no extra charge. What an angel! Our room had a big old clawfoot tub that was put to good use every evening after hours of trekking around the old city.
Review 46:Heating in the room was insufficient. No heating in bathroom. Outside temperature went down to 4 Celsius in December. No fireplace in common rooms.
Review 47:Friendly staff on front desk.
Review 48:Room are very comfortable but small. The bathroom is antique decoration.
Review 49:Nice staff In the center of the town Good breakfast The ambiance Quiet place
Review 50:Would upgrade to larger room nest time
Review 51:Location Beautiful ambiance Great service Wonderful meals Charming town' Guided walking tour of town Train from Lisboa
Review 52:Lovely room with green and white tiled floors and high, arching ceilings. Excellent and helpful staff. Excellent dinner at nearby restaurant and lovely breakfast included with hotel!
Review 53:The location is excellent, right next to the temple of Athena and the Cathedral. The rooms, former Monks cells, are larger than you would think, and had great views. Breakfast and dinner were in the former cloisters and the structure and space were beautiful. It was great just to walk around such a historic building. The bar area is worth some time too. The staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. Could not recommend this place higher.
Review 54:Suite was wonderful, breakfast area and food, service, staff very attentive, location - getting there and as place to visit Evora and area from, laundry service
Review 55:Nothing negative to say.
Review 56:The staff is all around friendly and helpful. They went above and beyond to make our stay in Evora excellent by helping to plan a day trip around the Alentejo region. Thank you to Alexandra, Catarina, Luis and Luis the bartender. The location is great and rooms are comfortable.
Review 57:There was very loud chanting in the square outside for several hours during the night until 4.30 am. Other guests commented. Probably just a one off occasion.
Review 58:The whole building and the historic atmosphere. Helpful staff and free parking straight outside. Very central position. Good restaurant.
Review 59:For a heritage property, the quality of decoration is iffy. The bed is on its way to becoming a bowl. The carpet is filthy. The lamp shade needed replacement a generation ago. So stay here only for its location and do not consider this as what a pousada experience can be. Rooms are small - but this is expected.
Review 60:Location and cleanliness are excellent. Quality of bed linens is great. Internet is excellent.
Review 61:No tea making facilities in room. Coffee at breakfast from a machine, not served fresh. Map of Evora badly printed, poorly presented.
Review 62:The buillding, dining room.
Review 63:Beds are very stiff, Dinner in the hotel was a disaster. It took two hours for the whole meal to be complete and the food was below average at best. I am not a fussy eater. Food far too expensive for the product served.
Review 64:Location and history of the property. You can ditch your vehicle at the hotel and tour by foot Lobby area very stately. Wonderful staff.
Review 65:Breakfast is basic, but still ok.
Review 66:Location is just fantastic. In the centre of the old town just next tothe Roman temple. The building was a monastery before, you can stillfeel it. Parking available in front of the hotel.
Review 67:Standard rooms are relative small, but that's part of staying at a historical building. The rest of the accomodation easily makes up for this.
Review 68:Atmosphere, friendly staff, location, parking facility
Review 69:Nothing.
Review 70:Absolutely stellar, helpful staff. Beautiful reformed monastery, which make for smallish rooms, but well appointed and comfortable. Location is superb, with grat view from the temple of diana over the old city.
Review 71:It was very pricey.. but I knew that going into it.
Review 72:Staying in a pousada with such history and architecture...simply beautiful. The location, rooms, facilities (including a great pool and sunbathing area) food and service were all excellent.. Overall, a fabulous, once in a lifetime experience.
Review 73:location to temple, cathedral and old town square all within steps of location -staff were very efficient and willing to assist -breakfast was substantial and tasty -room was incredible -really enjoyed spending time by the pool
Review 74:So many areas within the hotel to relax - the pool obviously but I loved the huge arched bar area off it with sofas and tables and the small area off the bar with tables under the vines. There was also a large room terrace with cane furniture and very peaceful too. Staff were always polite but interested - food excellent with great breakfast choices.
Review 75:The restaurant for dinner. Waiters incompetent. Misunderstanding and poor service. Not according to the impression upon arrival.
Review 76:Like the staff upon reception. Competent and friendly
Review 77:nothing!
Review 78:Such a beautiful building in a perfect location in the historical heart of a wonderful vibrant city. The most delicious breakfast buffet ever experienced in a hotel and wonderful historical setting. We would definitely rebook with Pousada's - we were so well looked after with crisp sheets and fluffy pillows, a wonderful view from our room of the cathedral and with excellent staff too, a lovely 2 nights to remember during our fabulous holiday in the Alentejo.

Review 88:No elevator.
Review 89:The staff is very friendly and helpful, the location of the hotel is amazing, right by the Roman Temple, very central.
