Reviews for Hotel Dom Fernando
Review 1:A bit far from the historical center, but that's a good excuse for having a nice walk in Evora.
Review 2:Excellent hotel for the price, modern and comfortable.
Review 3:Though very comfortable, accommodations had tired/flat pillows and some scratches on furniture.
Review 4:Excellent location just outside old city walls. Easy 5 minute walk to old town. Though this is an older hotel, accommodations clean and staff very helpful and friendly.
Review 5:Officious jobsworth as night duty manager. Bar closed early on Saturday night, even though we were there well before the official closing time. This severly dampened our 65th birthday celebrations. Other people wanting a drink before closing as well as us.
Review 6:Good location. Pleasant hotel. Facilities in general.
Review 7:Some of the staff were friendly and informative but unfortunately some were not. Breakfast was a disappointment. We arrived an hour into it and there was no scrambled egg. Despite several people asking for it none turned up. We left and 9 o'clock with an hour and a half of breakfast to go and the staff were already clearing table to prepare for lunch.
Review 8:Basically, the location.
Review 9:Not the hotels fault but the sat nav had issues finding the place. Lots of one way streets. Just beware
Review 10:As a biker this was a good stop. Secure parking at no extra charge. On site restaurant and pleasant staff. Excellent value
Review 11:The bed mattresses were really firm.
Review 12:I loved the friendly staff and ease of access. The properties pool has a lovely setting in the center of all the rooms. Just a short walk into the town.
Review 13:No facilities available after 10.30 pm; general decoration of the hotel indicated no maintenance (paint peeling, outdated décor and bathroom; sense of a hotel about to close)
Review 14:Location
Review 15:Staff unfriendly at check in. Photo of pool area shown is very misleading. Anti bicycle (put that in the booking form So we cyclists can find somewhere else. Rooms dated.
Review 16:Nothing.
Review 17:They said they had a parking lot, but you actually have to leave your car in the street in front of the hotel.
Review 18:The location is great. Right outside the wall! Good value for money.
Review 19:Room very basic, pool area needs improvement. Staff very good but maybe not enough of them - no one in the bar.
Review 20:Good location, walkable into Evora. Nice pool, parking available. Average breakfast.
Review 21:Beds uncomfortable, food (in self service restaurant) cold, unable to get a drink at the bar at 22.00 hrs. Not even a short, due to electric problem!!??? No wine glasses!!! Had to drink wine out of a water/tumbler glass?? Not a real problem but a wine producing country & no wine glasses in a hotel!! 6th hotel we've stayed in on our travels through Portugal on this trip and it was the worst AND most expensive!
Review 22:Close to the city, clean. Swimming pool looked nice but didn't use it
Review 23:Old hotel, needs renovating. Ground floor rooms need to keep the curtains closed and lights on also during the day or people at the pool will see inside. Bathtub without tub plug - so impossible to actually take a bath.
Review 24:Immediately out the city walls, pleanty of car parking, helpful staff, great WiFi.
Review 25:Reserved double room was not provided despite reserving many weeks in advance.
Review 26:Close location and short walk to Evora centre. One of the ladies on reception worked extremely hard, although others were much less committed.
Review 27:Friendly staff, clean, good breakfast, hotel is located 5 min from the city center and has plenty of parking spots; couldn't comprehend the other reviews regarding need of renovation etc.
Review 28:Hotel in need of redecoration & upgrading. Buffet breakfast not very good.
Review 29:Great location: just outside the town wall, with an easy walk to the centre. Staff pleasant and helpful. Plentiful public parking nearby. Good-sized comfortable room, with balcony. Wi-fi ok.
Review 30:- Swimming pool was not accessible while we were there (we arrived at 8:40pm); - general aspect of the room we had was old; - only separate beds were available;
Review 31:- Location is convenient to explore Evora city center and surrounding area; - public parking area available in front of the hotel
Review 32:Our room was facing the street and it was rather hot but we had to close the window due to noise. The air-condition was not too efficient but noisy it was.
Review 33:Nasty room, smelled like an old ashtray left out in the sun for 5 weeks. Bathroom was nasty aswell. Better put on sunglasses if you plan to go to the toilette at night because the bathroom lights burned brighter then a 1000 suns and will definatly scourge your retina's.. The bed can best be discribed as a wooden board. there's a pool though........h
Review 34:Good location.
Review 35:- Room heavily stinking (staff was not able to solve this finally, but lowered the price) - Ran down structure of hotel/rooms, all looking very old
Review 36:- Location near city-centre - Staff helpful regarding lowering price after several complaints
Review 37:As usual most things where more than satisfactory apart from dinner dining room. We have never stayed here in the height of the season. The dining room would have been ideal if it was for lunch. Plain wooden table and chairs, very sparse and no evening atmosphere. whereas main dining room for breakfast( previously used) very pleasant. Hense only had one meal in hotel
Review 38:Breakfast was a little limited choice but was very nice.
Review 39:Location excellent, nice layout our room balcony straight out to the swimming pool.Good value for money.
Review 40:Recently renovated bright and clean, large room. Big balcony overlooked the lovely good sized pool and had evening sun. Very comfortable bed. Helpful staff.
Review 41:i have never slept in such a poor/ lousy/ bad bed. It was terrible. And I have slept in many hotels. I don't think you should sell this. Make the price a little higher and buy new beds. People love a nice bed. rest was fine. Wifi was not erverywhere available.
Review 42:The swimming pool was nice, breakfast was okay, price was very good.
Review 43:Needs updating rooms basic, smelt fusty. Swimming pool water dirty needed cleaning. Overall needs a good paint job. Not a bad price to pay for overnight stay, but wouldn't want to stay more than one night.
Review 44:Central location into evora town centre.
Review 45:Very convenient for Old Evora, but situated just off the ring road so easy drive. Comfortable room, if a little dated, but I think refurbishment is now taking place. Absolutely nothing to complain about.
Review 46:The hotel was a short walk to the historic centre and given the heat provided excellent air conditioning in the rooms and the pool was a bonus. Staff were professional and helpful
Review 47:The hotel was clean and nice. and the location is great - just near the old city. Swimming pool was also great. But the staff got my 5 stars: We got there at start of a big festival (once a year) at Evora, that was just near the hotel - so in the first night the noise was terrible. we left the hotel the day after - although we ordered for a few nights: the staff was super professional on all scenario, informing us about this at arrival, and of course allowed us to "break" the deal with no additional charge.
Review 48:Our single beds were terribly squeaky - just turning in our sleep.
Review 49:Evora was a great halk way stop from Porto to the Algarve. The Dom Fernando was a good pitstop. The pool although still a little cool May) was clean with lovely surrounds.
Review 50:Beds really uncomfortable
Review 51:This hotel is a beautiful building with large spacious rooms, lovely pool area an d garden but, at the moment it is being refurbished as it is very tired and requires lots of work.
Review 52:The downside is there is a walk to the town center, which may be difficult for the aged or infirm.
Review 53:Very convenient location for those traveling by car,as easy to find and parking easy.
Review 54:Disappointed that the pool was closed for renovations. Breakfast staff were very unfriendly and breakfast was just so-so.
Review 55:Friendly helpful front desk staff.
Review 56:Pool as the whole hotel was in renovation, room was OK
Review 57:Good location just outside the old city, easy and free parking , free WIFI, quiet room towards the pool, great price
Review 59:Swimming pool and some other places were under noisy construction.
Review 60:Hotel is situated close to the historic center of Evora, easy to reach by car. Stylish and clean rooms offer views to the swimming pool area. Breakfast was ok.
Review 61:Reception area and hotel overall had seen better times. Bartender promised to bring us the ice-bucket, but somehow vanished.
Review 62:Free parking, walking distance to the city, kind reception staff.
Review 63:I didn't knew that there was a make-over from lotst of rooms on several floors as well as from thre swimmingpool going on. If there are scrambled eggs with breakfast, i also expect bacon.
Review 64:location ad free parking just in front
Review 65:The young woman tending bar was incompetent and rude. Language was a barrier, but not being able to comprehend our (admittedly poor) attempt in Portuguese to order wine and champagne was ridiculous! Construction going on... Hammers and drills at 8am and continuing until after 7pm were annoying at best. Wish we had been aware ahead of time.
Review 66:The desk staff, restaurant staff and housekeeping staff were outstanding!!!
Review 67:The breakfasts are unimaginatively the same and whenever I have had dinner there, it has not been memorable to say the least and the whole building is increasingly in need of refurbishment with carpets past their best, loose tiles and almost every room I have stayed in has faulty bathroom fixtures
Review 68:The location is suitable for my trips and I am out for most of the day. At other times, it is quiet and has facilities like a pool for those that want them.
Review 69:Although reception had a bar, after too much discussion between staff, one of whom in the early stages of training , I was told they could only offer wine from a box as the restaurant was closed! We had arrived at three in search of a nice drink.
Review 70:spacious room
Review 71:One of the persons at the front desk was not only unhelpful but was down right rude. One of the front desk persons was very personable.
Review 72:I liked the location to Evora. within a short walking distance to the center.
Review 73:Bar drinks quite pricey, but that stopped me drinking to much
Review 74:Big apartment with a balcony overlooking the beach and the sea. Well equipped kitchen, iron and ironing board, close to the beach, swimming pool, wifi, helpful staff, Lagos, the beach
Review 75:The lift was dirty the menu in the lobby was dirty and grubby.
Review 76:Evening meal and restraunt was nice just an average hotel quite near all the atractions.
Review 77:Coffee at breakfast was awful. From an urn. Unable to drink it at all, but coffee at the evening meal was lovely made from the coffee machine.
Review 78:Very clean, large room overlooking pool. Staff were helpful and polite. Evening meal was lovely Breakfast was nice, except coffee
Review 79:Facilities are out of date, breakfast was not very good but mainly, the bed was so hard and uncomfortable, I could barely sleep.
Review 80:Pool area looked nice but we didn't use it as we stayed only one night. Hotel is very well located to walk into the old part of Evora.
Review 81:Nothing (didn`t take breakfast, so no opinion about that)
Review 82:Everything: 5 min walk from the historical center, clean rooms, nice personell, comfy beds, nice balcony
Review 83:No free WiFi. Uncomfortable beds.
Review 84:Free parking. Swimming pool (could use an update but still ok). Close to the city centre. Room and bathroom were clean and ok. .
Review 85:Hotel Dom Fernando is one of the best accommodation options in the wonderful town of Evora. it's located south of the city walls - about 5 minutes moderate up hill walk from the town's center. It's close to the train station (10 minutes moderate up hill walk along cobbled street) so if you get in/out to Evora by train (1.5 hours from Lisbon) it's quite comfortable. Room are pleasantly decorated (apart of the wardrobe cabinet which is a bit rundown), clean and include a new terrace and a fridge. It has a big outdoor pool including a toddlers pool. Breakfast is fair although it stayed the same every day. The price makes this hotel a bargain! We've been to the Dom 3 times already and we're sure to come back again.
Review 86:Had difficulty locking sliding door to pool, staff member had to hold it while I locked it.
Review 87:Proximity to Evora, nice pool, spacious room, friendly staff.
Review 88:No wifi TV with only a few channels Dated furnishments
Review 89:Pool The balcony in our room It's near the centre of Evora The staff very kind The breakfast
Review 90:The service in the restaurant was a bit slow. Breakfast could be much better.
Review 91:Room was big and has a simple but nice atmosphere. The hotel is very close to the center and parking the car is quite easy. Restaurant had nice food. Nice to have a pool in a hot day in Évora!
Review 92:Great location just outside the beautiful old town. Pool was wonderful. Staff were all nice but rushed off their feet. Breakfast included was generous. No wifi was a bit of a bother but overall we were happy to rest up and enjoy the pool.
Review 93:There should have been some net curtains instead of just drapes - you either have no sunlight in the room or you let other people at tge pool see inside your room. But this was just a little drawback.
Review 94:Terrace and pool in the patio, good location for walks around the town, troubleless parking.
Review 95:Lack of hot food for breakfast
Review 96:Food in restaurant for evening meal. Walk out of room onto balcony and straight into pool. Bar prices were good. All staff very helpful
Review 97:20 minute wait for check-in. Since wifi is not available one needs tofind another alternative if of a businesstrip. It was made clear thatone can not bring the towels from the room to the pool, but needs torent additional pool towels. The breakfast was without any flair orlove. Terrible oj. At least there was a choice in yoghurts: no yoghurtof coconut...
Review 98:The hotel is close to the city centre and has a nice pool. Theairconditioning was functional
Review 99:- No Internet through wifi included. - Somewhat old furniture and toilet with cracks.
Review 100:- Access to a great pool. - A/C in the room. - Friendly staff that speaks multiple languages.
Review 101:Staff was not very friendly. Large group of noisy teenagers (school trip?) occupying the pool when we were there.
Review 102:Good location: right outside the centre of Evora, but only a 10 minute walk to the central square. Also walking distance from both train and bus station (which are in completely different locations). Nice room with some outside space, clean bathroom. Decent breakfast.
Review 103:The hotel had no parking available. The 3* hotel is obviously run down. Repairs and maintenance are poor. The tap of the bad was blocked with tye wraps so one could only shower, assumably to avoid water consumption. The badroom soap dispencers were removed and smelled after sewarage or badly cleaned. The pool is missing loads of mosaic tiles, the deep end green from alge and the poolside borderstone broken and pieces missing. Curtains did not function. The room carpet was stained all over. The rooms have 20 years old 15" TV with a poor channel selection and volume limited i could hardly follow the worldcup football matches. Unbelievable, they had no wifi and you could by a voucher for the local MEA network at 3€/hour. At best , this can be rated a 1* hotel now, which was ones a luxury 3*.
Review 104:Very good location to visit Evora. Few minuts walking distance from the old centre. Plenty of parking around the hotel.
Review 105:The staff is not service orientated at all.
Review 106:Location good if arriving by car, easy public parking in front of hotel. 10 min. walk to the old town.
Review 107:Nice hotel, very comfortable and excellent value
Review 108:Great location, good breakfast included, very helpful and accommodating staff who let us check in early.
Review 109:Restaurant was average at best.
Review 110:Good location. Secure parking in garage.
Review 111:Only one English language tv channel, and that one useless.
Review 112:Good room size. Restaurant on site. Price reasonable.
Review 113:I liked everything as I only stayed for 1 night.
Review 114:Location and environment was great.
Review 115:Owner
Review 116:Room wasn't ready at check-in.
Review 117:Location.
Review 118:The hotel was within easy walking distance of the centre. Good breakfast, comfortable bed, pleasant dinner in the hotel restaurant.
Review 119:It was inconvenient to have to use air con in not very hot weather because only option was to leave patio doors open.
Review 120:Pleasant room overlooking pool
Review 121:Staff very helpful, English ok
Review 122:Great location and plenty of free parking space
Review 123:Great swimming pool
Review 124:Parking place.
Review 125:Swimming pool.
Review 126:More of a luxury villa, 10 minures walk to the historic centre and walking distance to beaches.
Review 127:The bed are not comfortable.
Review 128:The swimming pool was nice.
Review 129:The breakfast room is too small for such a large structure. We had to wait a free table.
Review 130:Location. the room is big.
