Reviews for Kawamotoya

Review 1:It's a bit of an uphill hike to the gondolas, even via the moving walkway. Breakfast is also just ok . We had a room with a shower but it was pretty useless. Expected more for the cost

Review 2:The in-house onsen is great

Review 3:a bit farther away from the slopes futons were a bit thin and on the older side

Review 4:breakfast was good Inn was generally nice and clean great location for in town staff was helpful and gracious room was comfortable and larger than most on site onsen was lovely

Review 5:The French concierge man was very rude! There were no showers.

Review 6:Breakfast was superb. The hotel was very clean. The onsen was small but clean. The Japanese staff were very helpful. Overall good.

Review 7:Nothing was negative!

Review 8:Wonderful breakfast and dinner, very friendly staff, great location (we even had a view from our room!), nice and relaxing onsen (the hotel's own onsen is great, and there are 13 free public onsen in the village), comfortable rooms. We enjoyed our stay a lot and would definitely recommend this place!

Review 9:Had to book 1 day in advance for dinners, although the quality was excellent. Would be good to have basic à la carte dinner menu for hungry tired skiers.

Review 10:Liked the in-house onsen, breakfasts and simplicity of the rooms. Friendly helpful staff.

Review 11:I only stayed in Kawamotoya for three days but I wish I had stayed a lot longer. As soon as we walked through the door the hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. We stayed on the third floor where we chose a Japanese Style Room. It was beautiful, with a small area for your boots to be left at the entrance of the room. Tatami mats lay across the spacious room, we had a great heater which was easy to control the tempurature (best we had on our whole trip). We had a beautiful large window which over looked the village and ski field. We also had an area where we could lay out our gear to air. There was an amazing large tv in our room but we didn't even get to use it as it was so peaceful relaxing in our room listening to the running water outside. The futon beds I loved as they were very comfortable. We also were able to pick a beautiful onsen bag that we were offered which had a small towel, lavender soaps for the ladies along with other beautiful goodies and the men were able to choose a different bag selection which had other wonderful goodies in it.The Onsen which is located on ground level was beautiful. We were explained that there are many onsens situated around the town area but the one in the hotel was great so we didn't go anywhere else.We ordered breakfast every morning which was great. There was a wonderful selection of hot breakfasts along with fresh fruits and breads. There was also homemade yoghurt which was delicious with the muesli and fruit. We never got to try the dinner as it was quite a popular restaurant in town. We had heard great things about the food so we will be back to try this next time. The hotel wasn't too far from the local bus stop. It took us about 10 mins to walk down to the hotel. The locals were very friendly as well and were able to help us find our directions to the hotel. It was a 10min walk up the hill to the ski field which I found as a great warm up for my muscles before hitting the slopes.

Review 12:In-house traditional Japanese set dinner expensive compared with competition such as Jon Nobi, and not as flavoursome, but there is no obligation to eat in house with so many other restaurants nearby.

Review 13:Staff incredibly helpful and obliging. Excellent breakfasts included Very good Onsen hot pool.

Review 14:There was no laundry facilities. I had to go to their sister hotel whichwas inconvenient. All hotels should have this as a basic amenity.Room did not get cleaned on the first night.

Review 15:Breakfast food was very good!! Changed everyday. Also had a vendingmachine for beers.Excellent friendly staff!

Review 16:Had a great stay. Comfortable futons, outstanding breakfast, and reliable internet.

Review 17:WIFI did not work in our room but worked fine in the lobby area.

Review 18:Onsen onsite and near by, Breakfast was excellent, Staff was friendly, Ski storage

Review 19:everything

Review 20:location, staff kindness, clean and nice Furo.

Review 21:Very poor water pressure meant the shower in our en-suite was useless.

Review 22:fabulous staff who were very helpful. Good breakfasts.

Review 23:Could not get into the Deluxe room we booked on the first night

Review 24:Excellent staff, good breakfast, traditional but big and comfortable rooms

Review 25:The uphill walk on the first day with kit. But you can leave gear at a ski shop at the bottom of the gondola for just 500 yen for the week.

Review 26:The staff were fantastic. We were spending the first few days of our honeymoon at the Roykan and they went out of their way to make us feel welcome, booking us restaurants, lift passes etc. their grasp of English was limited but enough to get everything sorted and it was on the far reaches of the resort but still only a 5 min ( all be it uphill) walk to the lifts. It also had its own onsen. In all I cannot recommend this lovely, traditional Ryokan enough.

Review 27:My room was on the 4th floor and the water pressure at the tap was very weak.

Review 28:Good location, comfortable room, friendly staff, has its own onsen, excellent breackfast. You feel very comfortable in this ryokan.

Review 29:Too expensive for what it is. We stayed on a weekend and price is threetimes higher than on weekdays. The lobby was renovated recently withtaste but the rooms are old and would deserve to be refurbished. Also wedidn't like the fact that we had a pre-assigned slot for breakfastand could not change time.

Review 30:We liked the onsen in the hotel and the breakfast buffet.

Review 31:far end of town but that still means only a 10 minute walk to other side near mountain

Review 32:Staff were quite friendly and spoke english pretty well, very close to public onsens, breakfast delicious rooms nice

Review 33:room a bit worn (cracks on the walls, stains on the sliding doors) wifi connection very unstable and no signal in the room at the end of the floor. Water pressure very low in the room = no hot water

Review 34:Excellent location Spacious lobby, nice design, ryokan style rooms. Great onsen bath experience Staff very helpful, welcoming and attentive to any details

Review 35:Can't fault this place. Perhaps the only area for improvement would be a laundry service.

Review 36:I cannot recommend Kawamotoya highly enough! For starters I am in love with Nozawa Onsen (after having also stayed in Hakuba)... The staff are so friendly and are always happy to help. Reception staff have good English also. On our last day, they even made us a little take-away breakfast because we missed out. Buffet breakfast was amazing and lots of western options too. Rooms are beautiful and clean. We especially loved the hotel's own private onsens. A very short walk (maybe 1 min in ski gear) up to the nearby lift to the main ski area. Great wifi connection.

Review 37:More towels needed

Review 38:Excellent restaurant. Very helpful and friendly staff.
