Reviews for Grande Fjord Hotel

Review 1:We got there really late one evening as we travelled on a motorbike and the weather wasn't great. We were really hungry but had missed dinner so the man on reception and the chef sorted some food leftover for us and made a really good meal. Delicious. They were really helpful and it was much appreciated.

Review 2:I found the room and the bathroom not so clean, nothing dramatic but did not felt to the stand of the hotel. Their are ticks in the surroundings, so better be careful!

Review 3:The staff was incredible helping us out with few problems we had before arriving, and super friendly! Helpful and professional! Wonderful food!

Review 4:There are parking issues. there is not enough parking space close to the entrance, so we had to park not so close and carry our bags up to the hotel. the internet wasnt good enough. dinner was very expensive.

Review 5:The room, The breakfast, the dining room, the reception (the receptionist and his availability).

Review 6:Out of town so no place to eat except hotel restaurant or longish walk into Geiranger on narrow road.

Review 7:Located about 2k out of town but beautiful and quiet, some rooms with balcony overlooking fijord

Review 8:Quite far from center if you don't fave a car, and too expense compare others as same facilities

Review 9:Clean, comfort and great breakfast, and great view if your room beside the river

Review 10:no bad experience but I would think that more than 3 or 4 nights for dinner and you would get a little bored with the buffet - should offer an a a la carte too!

Review 11:overall setting of hotel

Review 12:The room was apart from the rest and it seemed to be the worst one in the hotel. It was far from the city.

Review 13:The views to the Geiranger Fiord and the buffet dinner.

Review 14:We splurged for the fjord view room. Great decision, the view was lovely. We had a car, so the location was great for us, but it wouldn't be great without a car. Breakfasts were fine. We checked out the dinner buffet but didn't eat dinner there it wasn't as appealing if some restaurants in town. The room was very nice. Large by Norway standards. Wifi signal in the room wasn't good; much better in the lobby.

Review 15:Slow wifi. Gets pricey and costs stack up quickly - we stayed for two nights, would have been nice to be offered some sort of discount on dinner for the second night.

Review 16:Excellent location, staff brilliant and friendly. Get room with fjord view! Loved the selection of food at dinner and breakfast. Free donuts!!!

Review 17:People in here are really nice. The room is pretty clear and the view of fjord outside are good. I did enjoy some times in Geirangar, I felt comfortable in this hotel too.

Review 18:Mosquitos but it wasn't so bad

Review 19:The location + the staff were really welcoming and Alexander at the reception was really helpful we were a party of 3 and we had booked two rooms cuz there wasn't an option for an extra bed when we made the reservation online so he moved us to a room with 3 beds and cancelled the extra room at no extra charge! It was a great first impression as we checked in. The fjord views from the balcony are beautiful and breakfast was nice though could have more variety. Free coffee and hot drinks machine was cool too.

Review 20:My bed was a bit past it, sagging on one side, felt like I was going to roll out!

Review 21:Beautiful location just 2km drive from town & right at the bottom of the Ornevegen drive up to the beautiful viewpoint. They serve a buffet dinner here too which is well worth the money, good food for a not bad price. Staff very friendly & helpful

Review 22:Slightly away from ferry terminal.

Review 23:Excellent staff. When I reached heir anger, it was 6:30 pm and heavy rains. No public transportation was available. Again hotel was not bound to send any vehicle for pick up. I called up hotel reception and told my problem. He immediately sent a car for pick up. I really thank them. Breakfast was awesome. Top floor coffee machine was really good. View of fjord was excellent from room. I may go on writing lots of good things about hotel and place. Overall great experience.

Review 24:No negatives whatsoever. If in Geiranger, this is where you stay.

Review 25:EVERYTHING!! The view was incredible, the staff was the best, the breakfast & dinner menu literally had everything one can ask for & rooms were sparkling clean, spacious and well laid out

Review 26:nothing.

Review 27:Everything. The best hotel we have stayed at in Norway. Quality furnishings, comfort, fantastic view over the fjord from balcony, the best breakfast buffet we have had in Norway.

Review 28:Breakfast and dinner were a bit too mass No WiFi in the rooms and also in other parts of the hotel WiFi was not accessible Probably too overpriced because of the location

Review 29:Location (in the middle of the Geiranger Fiord), our room had an incredible view!

Review 30:Wifi didn't work in our room because it was at the end of the hall, but didn't need much internet with everything to do in the area.

Review 31:Stunning location on Geirangerfjord.

Review 32:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. This really did make our stay, a week long drive around Norway, very pleasant. The hotel is also very conveniently located to the Oslo City Center which makes it a pleasant experience to walk around for shopping or dining.

Review 33:The location is idyllic, and we picked a day when the cruise boats were absent and the weather gorgeous. The family stayed up till 1 am to welcome us, and let us linger in the room the next morning, so we could savor the tranquility. Just wish we could have stayed longer.

Review 34:Parking is a bit limited because the hotel is jammed between the camping on the fjord and the mountain behind.

Review 35:Great views of the fjord. Very good buffet dinner with fantastic views of the fjord from the 6th floor.

Review 36:I got room 512, it's in the corner, on the back side and under the restaurant, the room is big but full of old facilities. I can see women's hair at the bathroom's door, the bathroom's roof like a map. No sound-proof between the wall (or board), there is a noisy sound from the afternoon till the midnight, I don't know what that is, it's like "pang, pang" in a tempo.

Review 37:Helpful and friendly staff.

Review 38:I think it was abit expensive if you consider everything. The view are nice from the room, but it´s quite alot of money just for that.

Review 39:Great location, nice staff.

Review 40:The staff are very friendly and cheerful. They are knowledgeable and helpful. The hotel is beautiful and the decoration is classy. It is a very elegant place. I love the lighting and the candal holders. The room was clean and comfortable. A wide selection of coffee and tea from a wonderful Bosch coffee machine is available in your room and a station next to the restaunt. Excellent breakfast and dinner. Amazing view of Geiranger fjord! Love it!

Review 41:Parking space is not enough and narrow. The receptionist is cold, and I felt upset about his attitude. I even doubt if I made something wrong? I also felt no privacy due to the design of 3F.It's the most expensive hotel but also the worst experience during my stay in Norway. I would never step into the hotel again.By the way,the wifi was also terrible.

Review 42:View from outside of the window

Review 43:Our room was outside the main building in some kind of cabin. The room was dark, a bit smelly and not really clean. The staff at the front desk was rude and not helpful at all! We asked about a place for dinner. They recommended their (rather expensive) buffet. When we asked about other options in the town of Geiranger, they told us quit rude, that the other Hotels had the same buffet as they and the we could find other restaurants by ourselves. The Grande Fjord Hotel was the most expensive hotel on our 2 week trip through southern norway and we liked it the least.

Review 44:Das Frühstück war ausgezeichnet Das Badezimmer hatte Bodenheizung Es hatte eine Kaffeemaschine im Zimmer

Review 45:Sitting behind iron chains on the terrace (3rd floor) gives you a weird feeling. There sure can be a better solution. A problem not of the hotel but of the Geiranger community: All these cruise ships constantly poison the valley with ugly, thick, blue smog. Is that really what you want?

Review 46:Perfect location about 5 mins by car outside of Geiranger town, overlooking the fjord. Quiet, clean, friendly staff, parking right at the entrance, various fish for breakfast, WLAN worked well.

Review 47:Blinds on the windows still let in a little light during the night, sojust be aware if that bothers you.

Review 48:Hands down the best place we stayed in Norway. We loved this place. Wegot a room with a covered balcony overlooking the fjord. Gorgeous viewwith a waterfall in the distance. We had 2 comfortable twin beds closetogether & a very nice bathroom. The food was absolutely deliciousin a beautiful dining room with giant windows all around for more fjordviews. The customer service and attention to detail at this hotel wasamazing. Free coffee/tea/cookies in the entryways, tastefuldecor, nice bar/seating area, very helpful staff. And to top it off,we walked down to the water where a separate company had small boatrentals. We took one out for an hour (I'm completely inexperiencedat boating but they were so easy to drive) at a very decent price andsaw the famous waterfalls (Seven Sisters & Suitor) up close andpersonal! We could have stayed longer here and give it our absolutehighest recommendation. You won't be disappointed.

Review 49:The bed had hair all over the matres below the matress topper. When you lay in the bed it was very visible

Review 50:The view and location was amazing. We had a fjord facing room with balcony which was great

Review 51:We loved this hotel and would stay again or enquire whether the cabins in the camping ground below would be cheaper. The view was amazing and it was away from the busy centre where the ships disembark. With our own car , this was ideal for us.

Review 52:standard room views were very nice- still had views of the fjord. Breakfast was amazing. Though it seems expensive, it was good value overall for Norway for what you get. Offered a buffet dinner for reasonable price, afternoon snacks, and tea/coffee available throughout day. Staff friendly. Would stay again.

Review 53:Quite pricey (but then again, everything in Geiranger is) - You need a car or good walking shoes to visit any restaurants, stores etc. of the village - A bathtub was a bit old-fashioned, should be updated with just showers.

Review 54:Clean, big rooms with a view to the fjord. - friendly staff - Feels like high quality staying - Quiet, calm surrounding - Balcony!

Review 55:Too expensive for this location and service. The hotel is just in front of camping, so just the view is not very good. You have balcony but you are allowed only two steps. Neither shampoo nor body wash but all-in-one shampoo is shocking for this price again. I saw other fancy hotels in Geiranger center (this hotel is not located in the center) so if I go there again I will definitely choose one of them, not this one.

Review 56:Free snacks

Review 57:I did not like it that I was charged extra for my six year old daughter though I did not ask for an extra bed. The additional charge of 150 NOK was unnecessary I felt.

Review 58:Everything was just perfect. A little expensive but then the stunning location and that it is in Norway, the price is justified. Great breakfast, magical views from the room and balcony and good Wi Fi

Review 59:Beautiful setting. Clean hotel and rooms and very helpful staff. Beautiful upstairs dining room and lounge area. It is about a mile to walk to town, though, but I enjoyed being away from town and seeing the view of the Fjord from the hotel much better than being downtown. Very impressed!

Review 60:A very nice facility. Clean and bright, helpful and accommodating staff, fabulous breakfast buffet. We wished the hotel were closer to the town; it is actually a bit of a walk along a major road. It was very rainy during our visit, so walking was not a pleasant option.

Review 61:The hotel is 2km from the center. If you don't have a car and it's raining, it might not be a pleasant walk.

Review 62:The view from the rom is spectacular. Make sure you get a room with a view :)

Review 63:Food was taken away too early for the breakfast and dinner buffets. They did not refill shampoo as promised.

Review 64:Every room has a view of the fjord Free coffee and tea Location away from the busy area Reasonable price for Norway

Review 65:Bathroom was small and not quite up to the standard as everything else

Review 66:The location is absolutely perfect, overlooking the Geirangerfjord from room balcony or hotel restaurant. Friendly and service-minded staff. Great hotel standard with many fine details, stylish decoration and free coffee in room and lobby.

Review 67:Hotel buildings seem nice from outside. Room interiors are old fashioned, might need renovation.

Review 68:Great location with fjord view. Rich breakfast and dinner buffet. Friendly and helpfull staff.

Review 69:There's no sidewalk on the road to town so the main way to get around is by car.

Review 70:Wonderful view of the Geirangerfjord right from the room window. Buffet dinner that exceeded our expectations for a hotel of this size. Warm staff and nice touches like a coffee machine in the room.

Review 71:This kind of a superior hotel should bring its communications' features up to standard. Both TV and WiFi were sub-standard.

Review 72:1. Wonderfull view of the fjord. 2. Excellent breakfast. 3. Excellent dinner buffet for reasonable price..

Review 73:WiFi was not stable in the bedroom meaning we had to decamp to reception. Buffet dinner was disappointing (over-cooked beef, breaded chicken, seafood pie, pork) little for vegetarians.

Review 74:Family run hotel. Loved the fact they had baths. Complimentary coffee, homemade lemonade & doughnuts. Tea, coffee facilities in room. Nice location away from town which was overrun with cruise visitors. Great views.

Review 75:WiFi a hit spotty in my room downstairs. But if you come to such a nice place just to hang on the internet. Than it's your own fault anyway.

Review 76:I came late after a long say cycling in the snow and rain. The looked after me very well, even of I made the floors wet. Staff were great and the location is extremely beautiful.

Review 77:The rooms are slightly dated. Not easy to get to without car though they will pick up and drop off in town.

Review 78:The view, the view, the view! Efficient and knowledgable staff. Self-service laundry at campsite down the street.

Review 79:We missed the signs to the hotel the first time (after coming down all the hairpin bends on Road 63 from Eidsdal direction) and the satnav could not help as the hotel has no building number. Had to phone from beyond Geiranger village to find location of hotel.

Review 80:The amazing view from our balcony

Review 81:Nothing not to like

Review 82:They were so helpful trying to make our stay and experiences the best it could be. The views from the place and its location close enough but far enough away from the center of town so that the specialness could be appreciated.

Review 83:Would like bar area open before dinner, say from 5pm, and an a la carte dining option. 2km walk to main town centre without safe separate pavement (plenty of free parking in city area)

Review 84:Nice size room with good facilities, clean and comfortable beds. Windows that open for fresh air plus views of the fjord and ship movements that are dreamlike. Wifi worked well and while if in late finding a car park may be a challenge, there is plenty available. No trouble getting vacant table for breakfast and good standard Norwegian selection provided. Free all day tea and coffee plus donuts. Buffet dinner (7pm-9pm) most acceptable and value for money.

Review 85:The views from this hotel are spectacular. The breakfast and dinner buffets offer a good variety. Renting a kayak couldn't be easier from this location - there is a rental office between the hotel and the water and the people who run it are great.

Review 86:The view from the deck is GREAT. The beds are comfortable, and the entire hotel is very clean. Breakfast was nice. The staff is very helpful !! We loved everything about the stay.

Review 87:Nothing was unexpected, I knew it wasn't close to town and we had a car so it was perfect!

Review 88:Friendly, helpful staff, great breakfast, clean, nice rooms, superb view and easy parking.

Review 89:Refurbished room but no instructions about how anything worked. Told that will be available next summer when all refurbishments have been completed.

Review 90:Lovely room with a wonderful view. Good choice at breakfast and good buffet evening meal. Large campsite but no noise from it.

Review 91:No comment apart from poor internet connection in the room

Review 92:A friendly hotel. With a few extra touches. Ie available coffee. Clean and well managed. Very pleased we didn't stay in the other hotels in the village.

Review 93:It is a little way (3 minute drive, 25 minute walk) from the town but it was still perfectly convenient and well situated. It isn't cheap, but nothing in Norway is!

Review 94:Lovely aspect overlooking the fjord, comfortable rooms and nice buffet breakfast. We stayed only for one night just before the start of tourist season and they upgraded my room, which is always appreciated

Review 95:Split single beds instead of a normal double or queen bed.

Review 96:The location and private balcony to the fjord was perfect. Friendly international staff, great breakfast buffet, and location.

Review 97:Too rainy and cold, but we still had an exceptional stay. Early for buses so hard to get in and out.

Review 98:Location, fjord view, Roros blankets and pillows, balcony view, exceptional friendly, helpful and patient staff, exceptional dinner and breakfast buffet. Thank you Alexander and Frederik.

Review 99:the long long drive to get there (but the views were all so worth it). my fjord view room wasn't a totally unobstructed like those on the higher floors but the hotel owner gave a great discount for dinner!

Review 100:the views, the breakfast spread, the dinner buffet, the staff and the views (did i mention that already?)

Review 101:The wi-fi signal is weak so if you have the room on the end it is more challenging to get stable service.

Review 102:The location of the hotel is perfect. It gets the late day sun so stays warmer later than the rest of town. It is a short walk or 1 minute drive to town. The kayak and boat rentals are on site. The fjord views are amazing.

Review 103:While the walk into town and to the ferry terminal is fine, there is not much to do in the area if you don't have a car. I would recommend only staying a maximum of 2 nights if you do not have a car. Internet was slow.

Review 104:The view of the Fjord from the room was amazing. Good breakfast and staff were very helpful. The hotel is actually not too difficult to get to if you don't have a car although I agree with other reviewers that the hotel should consider introducing a shuttle service at least to/from the ferry. The walk is about 2km (and took us about 18minutes) from the information office but most of it is flat. There is no footpath but didn't feel unsafe at all, and the view is beautiful so you hardly notice the walk anyway!

Review 105:Food a little boring after several days, hot food was not labelled so you could not tell what was on offer. View of fjord spoilt somewhat by looking straight down onto campsite. bathroom flooded each time shower was used.

Review 106:Staff were pleasant, the room was comfortable and had a lovely view of the fjord. 24 hour free coffee.

Review 107:It needs renovation.I didn;t like the breakfast. Not a lot choices. The only way to justify it's price was the great view. And still aproximatelly 160 eurofor 1 night its very expensive because it doesn't offer anything else.

Review 108:The room was big with balcony and a fantastic view to the fiord.

Review 109:Old furniture Weak wifi Limited Parking Too expensive Busy area There was no breakfast They close the place that you can set some times

Review 110:Location

Review 111:nothing don't understand why only 3 *

Review 112:excellent business room with free wifi most beatiful view over the fjord excellent dinner buffet & breakfast highly recommended

Review 113:Room too hot, desk was on lower floor, inconvenient access and people not friendly at all, limited parking, very limited info about the area. It is a popular place so they just want your money and no service is returned for the money paid.

Review 114:Great views, food OK,

Review 115:Nothing.

Review 116:Friendly and efficient lady on reception. We were able to have our room much earlier than official time check in time. Location is wonderful. Comfortable room with fridge. So glad I chose to stay here rather than in Geiringer itself. Excellent breakfast. NB There is a free car park in Geiringer. It was quite full when we went but theres a good chance of finding a space, even in high season, ie. no need to go by foot from hotel as there is no pavement.

Review 117:There was no sidewalk on the road to walk into town.

Review 118:Most rooms have a balcony with fabulous views of the fjord. The front desk staff were incredibly helpful.

Review 119:This wooden hotel is wonderfully located over the Geiringer Fjord . It is about 1 km from city center but is quiet and sits over a camping site which adds to the atmosphre. Rooms are very nice and breakfast is rich. The dinner buffet is great. Staff was very kind and polite. Warmly Recommended

Review 120:It did not have the charm of some of the older original hotels we stayed at.

Review 121:It was a clean basic hotel outside of the main town with all the cruise ship hustle and bustle. Gorgeous views- relaxing.

Review 122:Nothing to dislike, but the hotel could make a bit more of its ground floor reception area- its a bit basic; and also the bar doesn't show much in the way of drinks available.

Review 123:Amazing views; always something going on on the water. Handy location for touring in several directions; good value food in the topfloor restaurant, where staff were very helpful. Very well-designed room with balcony.

Review 124:Parking can be difficult. Wifi can be too slow sometimes.

Review 125:Fantastic view of the fjord from our room windows. Breakfast is excellent. Very quiet even at the main road.

Review 126:Staff unfriendly and had argument about paying extra for stay of our 2 - year old son; somewhat dates rooms. Definitely not good value for money. Pictures look much better than reality

Review 127:Nice location albeit there is a campsite just below the hotel;

There is no problem if you have a car. But as to the location, you should choose convenience or environment if you don't have a car. It takes about 30 minutes by walk from the port and no public transportation actually exists between the port and the hotel (only two public buses per day). But the surroundings are very beautiful and you can enjoy beautiful views of Fjord. There is no problem if you have a car. There is no place for eat out until the town, as a result, you have to take buffet dinner at the hotel. The quality of food was good enough.

Review 129:フィヨルドの眺めは素晴らしい。アンダルスネス行きのバスはホテルの前で停まってくれるので、このバスに乗る場合は町に戻る必要がないので便利。 Fjord view is fabulous. The public bus to go to Andalsnes stops in front of the hotel so you don't have to go back to the town.

Review 130:The quality of the equipment and the breakfast.

Review 131:A quite good Hotel with an exciting view to the Fjord. Equipment reduced to the necessary things. So also the breakfast is ok but not outstanding for the price. If the traveller keeps the location in mind the hotel can be a good choice. It is definitely the Hotel with the best view to the fjord. Also the Union Hotel cannot keep up with this Hotel. Nevertheless it could be a good idea to check other option like the Hotel Grande Hytteutleige og Camping.

Review 132:Nothing

Review 133:View was fantastic and the rooms were very comfortable. Hotel is perfect in every way; comfort, location, food, staff. Each room had a balcony for taking in the views overlooking the fjord. Perfect setting for our trip.

Review 134:We have nothing to say in this column.

Review 135:We loved the location of the hotel. The view from our room window was simply stunning. The room was a delight. But more than that, the staff went out of their way to be helpful, even running us down to the bus stop for our onward journey being mindful that we were travelling everywhere by public transport, our choice being familiar with the roads and many tunnels in Norway

Review 136:Room with a view of fiord we had booked wasn't available and although hotel refunded difference and gave us free evening meal, it was disappointing after travelling all the way from Scotland to see view.

Review 137:Interior of room was very clean and all items in good order. Lots of convenient parking.
