Reviews for Hotel Regina Palace

Review 1:when asked to extend our checkout time for 4 hours we were told we would have to pay 50%, bit extortionate, not very accommodating in this situation.

Review 2:staff very friendly,

Review 3:Very good effort on the style but need slight updating on the furniture A bit dated but very good value for money. If it was updated I guess it would have been 5 star.Overall very pleasant experience.

Review 4:We were travelling for our honeymoon and paid for one of the more expensive rooms, but there was no acknowledgement of this and we really just felt like any other guest in a large commercial type hotel. Relative to other hotels of this price and star rating - the experience was not up to expectations. Had to pay for table tennis balls!

Review 5:Grand old hotel - but overall experience is not up to standard for the price. Breakfast was a good variety of foods but hot items did not change over the course of our stay which was disappointing - have had a lot better a lesser hotels.

Review 6:The wifi appeared to go off at night I think.

Review 7:Good parking. Got a spa massage without fuss. Good room on second floor facing sea with round bed (201). Lovely lobby very regal from another time but not stuffy. Opposite the ferry boat to the isola (islands) super convenient but far enough not to be a busy place.

Review 8:Room was very poor, not properly cleaned and bathroom amenities inexistent. Front desk reception staff cordial. Breakfast a disaster, waiter personnel actually rude and disinterested. Do not recommend.

Review 9:Location on Lago Maggiore, spectacular. Hotel public areas are a throwback to an earlier golden era. That's where it ends.

Review 10:The line for check in was very long and we were not able to delay check out last 11 am at all. The town is very sleepy, lots of older people.

Review 11:Great location and views, the pool and spa were also nice.

Review 12:One thing needs to do There is an insect coming from out side when open the window so if you make any prevention like net fixed out side in the window.

Review 13:Perfect location with an excellent breakfast and every thing is excellent.

Review 14:Not easy to find. Taxis can't stop outside and the only clue to the location is a small brass plaque on the side of a doorway. You have to press the right combination to use the intercom and ask to be let in. The reception and rooms are spread around the building amongst private apartments. Its fine once you've worked this out and got inside.

Review 15:Fabulous view from the room. Friendly staff. Good English spoken.

Review 16:beautiful old hotel, gilt and chandeliers, excellent food, beautiful gardens, close to ferry for islands, near pedestrian area and restaurants. Good underground parking

Review 17:Everything was fine until the last day when we were catching an early train to return home. Breakfast was from 7am until 10am which was fine most days. However, on the morning in question the hot breakfast ie eggs, bacon and sausages did not appear until 7.45. This was also the case with the various cheese and hams that were always on offer each morning. This meant that when they did arrive there was a mad rush and all the items in question where snatched up immediately and therefore were not available to everybody until the next batch came out. In my opinion this is not acceptable for a hotel of this quality. Apart from this I have no complaints regarding the hotel.

Review 18:Everything was very good, Just the openings of the Indoor Pool spa facilities especially in bad weather. Would expect to have a swim before breakfast and have a Sauna etc during the day well before 5.30pm. especially in a hotel of this standard

Review 19:Room was very good, Beds fantastic, very Large and Comfortable. Very Clean

Review 20:The breakfast coffee tasted burnt and unpleasant otherwise a fairly average continental breakfast withlots of cakes for the German fraternity. The rooms are also small for the price

Review 21:the hotel reception area and lounge is beautiful and traditional and gives you a feeling of a bit of luxury

Review 22:This is a big hotel and felt impersonal at check-in, if staff could be a bit more welcoming/forthcoming with necessary hotel information that would lovely. Lovely swimming and relaxation area but almost all of the water features and hydromassages were not working.

Review 23:Great location straight on the Lake and the cheapest double room was actually big for Italy. Lovely breakfast.

Review 24:We were on the fourth floor and the WIFI signal was very weak, I had to sit in the area by reception to get a decent Internet connection, which was very irritating

Review 25:Excellent location, only a few minutes walk from the shops, restaurants and ferry terminal. Lovely building, friendly staff, nice bedroom, excellent breakfast. A really good place to stay in Stresa.

Review 26:Hotel is located facing the lake. Note that in the small notes of Booking you get the "grden" view" which is not really a garden. Lake view is much more expensive. Hotel is old however expensive, elevators are very small. Wi-Fi is terribel.

Review 27:We would have appreciated tea & coffee making facilities in our room & a slightly softer bed.

Review 28:The location of the hotel, the spectacular lake views from our room, the friendly staff, the pianist in the lobby & the general ambience of the hotel were all features that would entice us to return to this hotel.

Review 29:Staff at breakfast is not very attentive or sometimes unfriendly - but the breakfast itself offers great choice and quality! Room was a bit noisy due to being just next to the stairs

Review 30:High standing interior and outside Great location in the city and to explore the lake Indoors & outdoors swimming pool

Review 31:We had no bad experience as such but there were a few things I thought might be improved. There was no hook in the bathroom for hanging clothes and no body lotion which is almost standard in any 4/5 star hotel. I also would have preferred to have a separate shampoo and shower gel rather than have both in one.I suppose plumbing may be a little dated and we didn't find the loo the most efficient flusher. A full length mirror would also have been useful in the room. Our room (228) was quite small, as was the bathroom ( probably due to the fact that I chose the cheapest rate when booking!) so it might be worth asking for a larger room. I also think I would ask for a lake view room if going again-the view is stunning.

Review 32:The hotel was ideally situated on the lake front and only a 5 min walk from the town. It looks beautiful, both inside and out, and it was noticeable the number of people who stopped to photograph it, and indeed came in to photograph the foyer. The outdoor pool area and gardens re beautiful and on the one day we had rain it was nice to have the indoor pool facilty. It's very much regency style which may not be to everyone's taste but I think I made an excellent choice in booking it.

Review 33:The two single beds pushed together to make a double!

Review 34:The hotel was absolutely beautiful and in such a lovely location, right next to the lake and only a short walk into the centre of Stresa. All of the staff were very helpful and in particular, the restaurant staff were very friendly and the service excellent. The rooms were cleaned to a high standard daily.

Review 35:Drinks at the bar, expensive and the worst quality we had in Stresa or the surrounding villages.

Review 36:Fabulous location overlooking the lake Decadent feel to the lobby and restaurant. Spacious and comfortable rooms

Review 37:No slippers or bathrobe provided thus awkward to make use of swimming pool since alternative is to go through elegant lobby is state of undress. Atmosphere of group travel unfortunate. Garden view is really "garage view" of tour bus parking lot.

Review 38:The location and luxe atmosphere.

Review 39:We experienced several great hotels in Stresa including the Grand Hotel des Iles Borromées, and our stay at Hotel Regina was one of the most pleasant ones. This hotel is very close to a five stars and is not over priced. Liked very much the rooms that are very cozy and good size, the salons and reception areas in this hotel that is highly stylish. Pool and gardens are great. Breakfast is almost perfect. Service is highly professional and efficient. Difficult to find real weaknesses.

Review 40:Smoking right near the pools, even indoor pool, smoke going inside! Must be absolutely non-smoking area clearly signed as such. Also people should be encouraged to have headwear while in water as it is required in many pools around the world.

Review 41:Relaxing atmosphere, beautiful interiors, garden view and the terrace, pools. Outdoor pool attendant was very nice and helpful.

Review 42:Wifi was terrible in the rooms. Impossible to make a skype call for example. Staff with only few exceptions was not friendly and had attitude. They tried to blame the wifi problem on their "provider" but in their lobby it worked just fine. Looks like they just cheaped out on putting adequate routers for the guest rooms. Unaccepteable in 2015 !

Review 43:Beautiful Hotel and good location.

Review 44:The administration should banish smoking in the swimming pool area, both inside and outside!

Review 45:Very classy! The interior is magnificent, the garden lush and well kept, very nice swimming pools.

Review 46:The location is stunning - fabulous view over the lake and islands and the hotel's own gardens are kept immaculately. The staff are unfailingly friendly and helpful and the breakfasts could not be more diverse.

Review 47:Not a bad experience. However, Booking.com did say we would be allocated a spa bath. No. Did not happen!!!!!

Review 48:Beautiful olde worldy hotel. Very comfortable and kept to a fairly high standard. Pool attendant was very attendant to all.

Review 49:Disappointed with our room.. It was In the attic, no view, skylight window, small, not what we'd booked! Insisted a room change, eventually got one for €40 more per night....

Review 50:The pools

Review 51:The rooms are nicely decorated, but need urgently reparement due to poor maitenance during the years. The door of the minibar was broken and the connection between the stucked sink and the bath led to the outcome of a lot of dirt comming out in the bath after a successful drenage of the sink. The tiles were all broken...sad. Otherwise, a perfect hotel.

Review 52:The hotel is a piece of art. The staff is proffesional and friendly. The location is perfect for a visit of the Isola Bella and the other islands around. The Spa and pools are a relaxing experience.

Review 53:Staff where noisy, very noisy and disturbing, coming very often in the room even if we were in. At the breakfast: it is too busy, poor quality of food and very messy. Staff is not discreet and even allow itself with unnecessary and misplaced comments. The hotel is not "Palace". It is a Disneyland for elderly and the style is too much of barocco - roccoco style.

Review 54:location is perfect. Close to the center. Spa is really nice

Review 55:Bedroom small for a palace, impossible to read in the bed as lights very poor , walls painting very old . Service in breakfast very weak (.no plates available in the buffet, waiting for coffee 15 minutes , team disorganized , no fresh fruit salad )

Review 56:Fabulous setting on the lake, very central with the charm of an old first class palace

Review 57:The login in for free wifi is overly complicated in this day and age, the router was slow to respond and speeds varied considerably.

Review 58:Pool's, Spa, View, Hotel Lounge, Breakfast.

Review 59:Balcony a bit cramped. Charged an American's bill to my room, which took a considerable time to correct.

Review 60:Location, comfort, generosity of facilities and great choice at breakfast.

Review 61:Our room, whilst upgraded to lake view, it was a very small room. Happy to be there tho, what a. Jew...

Review 62:It is a beautiful grand hotel, loved just about everything!

Review 63:No dislikes, however a little more choice or change in what was offered at breakfast would have improved my rating

Review 64:The period charm & character. The indoor pool and Spa was excellent.

Review 65:Breakfast was a little manic at busy times (particularly weekends). There seemed to be little organisation to get tables cleared, people seated and tea / coffee orders taken.

Review 66:Location and facilities great

Review 67:Air conditioning. The indoor swimming pool, wellness centre. The area by the outdoor pool. The elegance and comfort of the lobby. The parking facilities.

Review 68:The price we had booked had been reduced significantly and were not offered any upgade. Check price four days BEFORE checking in.Although the outdoor pool was cleaned by the pool attendant it was poorly maintained: broken and uneven tiles around the pool, unstable pool ladders and mould between tiles. Breakfast, tinned fruit salad! Terrible bacon sausage and scrambled egg. Mold on bottom of shower screen. No English TV channel.

Review 69:The indoor pool and facilities, lovely garden area and under ground parking.

Review 70:Very meager breakfast. not more than 2 stars level.

Review 71:The location is the hotel is good. Private parking place - very comfortable. Swimming-pool - is perfect.

Review 72:Where to begin? Housekeepers aside (who are the gems of the personnel!), the only downside is that the staff is either rude or indifferent. The management staff at reception answers questions with either "no" (and no additional explanation), or prepared answered dictated by management. We tried to check in, and told we had to wait. Meanwhile, several parties after us (with the same level of booking) were checked in immediately. When we were finally told "our room" was available three hours later, we walked in to find an unmade room. It took an additional hour to correct this mess (pun intended), which was the result of poor communication from management (and NOT the fault of the maids). Additionally, the staff at the outside café was rude and ignored our party for 15-20 minutes before acknowledging us (we were the only guests). For this hotel to live up to the gorgeous property, the owners need to bring in a proper management company and train the staff. I will definitely stay here again, because the hotel really is a wonderful experience overall. However, I will do so with the expectations of substandard service.

Review 73:The hotel itself is absolutely stunning. Luxury hotels in Italy are often overpriced and major disappointments, but the Hotel Regina Palace does not disappoint. Ideal location, clean rooms, gorgeous property with fantastic facilities.

Review 74:Our shower area was very small.

Review 75:The whole ambience was lovely. Service was very good. The decor is beautiful and opulent. The outdoor pool was perfectly clean and well cared for by the pool attendant/lifeguard. Food very good too.

Review 76:Reception is too small and pokey. Some rooms described as having a garden view, when you cannot see the garden.

Review 77:Decor ambience, breakfast staff, especially the head waiter on the terrace. Choice of food on buffet.

Review 78:waiters during breakfast were very rude to each other and made the atmosphere less relaxed as the kept on saying each other to rush and some bad words too

Review 79:amazing pool amazing building amazing location

Review 80:Breakfast was disappointing for this standard of hotel.

Review 81:Unbeatable location, close to the ferry terminal and the picturesque pedestrianized town centre with its many boutiques and great restaurants. Glamour and style in keeping with the genteel resort. Indoor pool complex was fantastic; don't be put off by the kitschy photos online.

Review 82:We loved everything about Hotel Regina Palace! My parents had a lake view room which was superb. I had a garden view room which was lovely as well. It was our first visit to Stresa, staying at the Regina Palace makes us want to go back!!

Review 83:No irons!

Review 84:The hotel was amazing! Centrally located, clean, comfortable and great value for money. We had never visited Stresa before so our stay was memorable. The view from both sides of the hotel were incredible.

Review 85:N/A

Review 86:First Floor/terrace/lake-view room was fabulous. Internet was fast. Breakfast was accommodating (for us as vegans). Wait staff were extremely pleasant and welcoming. Walk to the Statione with luggage: easy. Thoroughly recommend the place! Probably the best experience/value for money of the trip!

Review 87:The hotel is within walking distance to town centre and amenities, as well as the ferry pier where one can board the ferries for the Borromean islands. It may be a bit dated but it doesn't lose its charm.

Review 88:Surprised that at this elegant hotel, the breakfasts were so mundane.....canned fruit and packaged pastries??!!

Review 89:Beautiful grounds, fabulous facilities, wonderful staff....beyond terrific. And it's hard to impress this New Yorker!

Review 90:One receptionist could try (or pretend at least) to like her job by smiling more and being more involved in her job. We booked a triple room, but the 'bed' for the thirth person was ridiculously bad. Further, the whole room could use some maintenance / freshening up, but it was ok for us. Wifi was not working.

Review 91:The pool and garden is beautiful and it was quiet, so we could relax over there. The inside wellness also looks nice. The location is perfect. The hotel has a very nice old art-deco style! One waiter at breakfast was really nice and that was very pleasant.

Review 92:The reception has no concirege like attitude. The information given on facilities is drawn rather than given.

Review 93:The location, the Art Deco Museum like experience of the hotel, the breakfast

Review 94:The grand foyer and staircase looked fantastic, furnished with an opulent arrangement of period features. Rooms were comfortable and the Lake View well worth it. I will certainly recommend the hotel and Stresa to all family and friends.

Review 95:Bathroom is very small and you have to be ninja to sit on the toilet. There is one single plug in in the room, so if it is more than one device no way you will charge them all.

Review 96:Very good located. Beautiful from the outside. Reception is rather small compared to the size of hotel lobby. We arrived earlier than check in time and the room was not ready so went for a walk to city. After we came back and went to our room, surprise surprise, but the room was not ready at all. Although checkout time is at 11 they did not make our room even after official check in time. The room was good, but nothing more than that. Breakfast is excellent, nice variety of everything. Espresso was very good

Review 97:Wi-Fi acted like a virus, and was made conditional upon disclosure of personal information. Mould in the shower. Not a well run hotel.

Review 98:Staff answered questions

Review 99:The view is amazing, air is clean, easy to breathe, perfect morning with birds, fountain, fresh air and kind and helpful personal. Classic atmosphere, beautiful interior and exterior.

Review 100:Terrible service - definitely not a 4 star. Nice service at the bar, but awful very cheap wine. Basic beds, lack of simple things like soap or shampoo or body lotion, which they have but they simply ignore to replenish your bathroom basket. You will have to ask about everything there. No anticipation of your needs.

Review 101:Beautiful building with magic hall, wonderful spa area. Delicious but expensive meal in their restaurant "a la carte" (remember about cover charge - 6 euros per person!!). Nothing else there is worth your money

Review 102:Would have preferred tea and coffee facilities in the room but this is a minor point.

Review 103:The staff. Utterly professional, courteous and extremely welcoming. The decor. Charming and in 'as new' condition. The facilities. Comprehensive and accessible. The location. Easy access to local facilities, walks and other routes. The rooms. Completely charming and spacious. Overall an absolutely delightful experience.

Review 104:My room was described as having "garden view" which is a bit too generous as what I really had was a street view on one side and a parking lot view on the other. The gardens are beyond the parking lot. The lady that checked us in seemed to be on edge, which reflected on the way she treated us.

Review 105:We were 3 friends who stayed there at the end of October. My single room (a corner room on the 3rd floor) was small but bright and comfy. The bed was also very comfortable. The hotel is classically elegant, with a fin-de-siecle atmosphere that gives it a special charm. The foyer is very attractive with live piano music in the evenings. Breakfast was excellent with good choices and the waiter who looked after us was friendly, with an Italian flair. The location couldn't be better. Across the road from the lakefront promenade (from where the boats to the Borromeo Islands depart), and walking distance to both the town centre and the Cable Car to Mt. Mottarone.

Review 106:The room was small, there were none of the items like bathrobes and slippers available in the other 4/5 star hotels along the lake front. The bathroom was a joke. The food in the restaurant was appalling; cold and expensive. The cooked breakfast was cold and unappetising and the cold buffet average. All in all dreadful.

Review 107:The location.

Review 108:The very thin walls of the bedrooms meant you could hear other guests talking. Difficulty of going to the outside swimming pool.

Review 109:All the old fashioned character and architecture. Wonderfully large restaurant with very attentive old fashioned service.

Review 110:Nothing.

Review 111:Hotel location , decore and staff all contributed to a first class stay. Spa and pool grotto spotless and great fun. Garden view rooms have wonderful views of mountains too.

Review 112:I booked through booking.com. when you show up at the check in time and you don't like the room booked for you, you should be able to cancel your booking which is not the case with this poor hotel. booking.com must have a better control on such hotels to protect their customer.

Review 113:We had to change 4 rooms to find a room we like, most of them are dark, depressing or had a bad smell. Breakfast is limited and If you ask for something like an omelet you have to pay extra. Bathroom is not very clean for 4 star and dated. No tea or coffee making facilities either, toilet paper is cheap and best take your own, Towels are paper thin so take your own. It is pensioners paradise.

Review 114:Location was good

Review 115:Breakfast buffet could be improved.

Review 116:We got upgraded and were given a room on the last floor with an incredible view on the lake. The staff was very nice and helpful. Very nice gardens and spa. The hotel is very well located. Would definitely recommend it.

Review 117:Nothing!

Review 118:Great location, pool area, good breakfast and a touch of old world charm. A grand old lady with real class. Lovely underground pool area. Room large and quiet with good air-conditioning-cannot wait to return.

Review 119:the single room with garden view was a little noisy as it overlooked the main entrance for vehicles

Review 120:despite the grandeur of the building and the furnishings of a palazzo, the welcome and helpfulness of the staff made my stay at this wonderful location a pleasure.

Review 121:No shuttle to station. Taxi cost Eu10. Wifi upgrade not available A banging door to the stairs kept me awake. This was fixed when I complained. Expensive.

Review 122:Breakfast Room and general decorations and ambience. Location on the front.

Review 123:Poor Wi-Fi,--Limited Charges for Video Movies ,I can understand Adult Movies ,but normal family Movies were charged for . !!! No Sky TV -only BBC World &CNN prior to this hotel we spent time in 3 star in Bellagio -all above was free and good Breakfast .No Eggs Chef - Bacon and Sausages from Hell -Charged extra for fried Eggs , (poached were ordered ) but rest of breakfast very good. Rooms overpriced for what you get . No Coffee/Tea Making facilities - Laundry totally overpriced -

Review 124:View over the lakes ,proximity to all restaurants ,and ferry terminus. With Exception of Bacon and Eggs ,Breakfast was very good , Hotel is very Plush and the STAFF were very polite and helpful ,free parking was appreciated

Review 125:over priced for the room we had.It was way too SMALL. Would think twice before booking on line again.

Review 126:The overall ambience was beautiful. Staff very helpful.

Review 127:This was our second visit and was disappointing. Staff seemed too busy with tour groups to care about individuals. Reception, checkout and help is all managed by two staff. Queues tend to be very long. Our room was disappointingly small with a tiny bathroom. The bed was meant to be king but was hardly two singles together. The internet was meant to be free but is tightly limited and time runs out very quickly. It is meant to service more than one device but does not. Extra time has to be bought from the hotel for a 7 day minimum which is useless for a short stay. On line purchase does not work because it is a free point (catch 22). At 2 pm we had to ask for our room to be made up. The two bedside lamps had 25 W globes and we had to read by torch light. We asked for stronger globes and were refused. The room provides one chair for 2 people. Too bad if we both wanted to sit. Overall overrated and not what we expected from a return visit. The hotel seems to aim at bulk bus tours and it shows.

Review 128:The location is excellent. The hotel is very regal and old world and makes a very stately first impression.

Review 129:Nothing

Review 130:We got a triple room with garden view which is beautifully decorated and well maintained. Size was good enough (30 sqm) for my family with two children of 8 and 2. As for facilities, it's more than I could ask for. We particularly loved the swimming pools, especially the indoor which became to my surprise how charming and very well decorated. If I had more time, would have use its tennis clay court. On the services, it's outstanding starting from my check-in until my check-out from the hotel. They were very assistful and attentive, both at the reception and the restaurant. We were well pampered. I only had some difficulties with the wifi on my first night, however the staff had it remidised on the next day. Parking facility is within the Hotel's premises and free of charge. As for breakfast, they served wide selection of food. Did enjoy very much with our breakfast at the hotel's Terrence overlooking the lake. For the location, just situated very close to the center only few minutes walk to the square and the pier. All I could say is that we have had memorable and quality time at Stresa. Part of it I must extend my credits to the hotel for the high standard of services.

Review 131:WiFi was slow. Room a bit small.

Review 132:This is a palace-like hotel. Indoor & outdoor pools were great. Plenty of sunbeds around the pool. Nice garden. The best location in Stresa, close to town & boats to islands. Airport bus stop nearby.

Review 133:The bed wasn't particularly comfortable. The double garden view room my husband and I shared was very nice but my daughter booked a single garden view room at the last minute and it didn't have any conventional windows just skylights. I would warn patrons to be careful when booking their room that it is not in the attic!

Review 134:Excellent location, good facilities and the room was a decent size. The room was well furnished and the bathroom was also generously proportioned. The house keeping was very good. Breakfast was the usual buffet style and was reasonably good without being outstanding.

Review 135:Our room 444 could not get an internet signal and we kept losing the t.v. Signal because of rain storms. There was only one English Channel. a coffee pot would have been nice and the room needed some TLC. Two bulbs out and the safe was falling apart. Tours got preferential treatment.

Review 136:We liked the area, the breakfast, and the pools. The front desk people tried to be very helpful, especially concerning the internet.

Review 137:A great location right on the lake with splendid public rooms and comfortable bedrooms. Efficient and friendly staff. Good breakfast in an ornate dining room or on a terrace facing the lake. A big selling point is the pool which is set in very pleasant gardens.
