Reviews for Hotel Utsikten
Review 1:The room was a twin room which was quite cramped.
Review 2:Overall a nice hotel in a nice location with a great view over the fjord. The food is great both dinner and breakfast.
Review 3:Didnt know we would have to carry our bags up 3 flights, limited staff and restraunt not open for dinner at end of the season
Review 4:The view was amazing, manager very hospitable
Review 5:Hotel in need of updating and some strange experiences. On arrival at 6 pm, we were asked if we would have dinner in the hotel, otherwise they would like to close up. We decided not to have dinner in the hotel, and drove down to Geiranger centre. When we arrived back at the hotel at 9 pm, the doors were locked, and there was no doorbell. We were not informed that they would lock the front door. We started walking round the building to see if there was an open door, and we finally found one. Walking up the stairs to our rooms, we saw the door to the reception was closed with a wooden stick... Strange. As we were several travelling together, we would have liked to sit in a lounge area and talk, but there was no opportunity for this. Also, there were no TV in the rooms, so we had to (involuntarily) turn in early. The breakfast the next morning was okay, but as I was going to fill my cup of coffee, an employee snatched the jug right in front of me. I literally had my arm 10 cm from the jug when this happened.
Review 6:Excellent view, okay breakfast.
Review 7:A bit outdated furnishings so the hotel should have a bit facelift in the rooms. Bathroom is small
Review 8:Very friendly staff. Beautiful views (when weather permits!) from the room over the fjord. Excellent breakfast.
Review 9:The breakfast was not well catered to and although we were there at 8.30 a few of the warm dishes were over and we were informed that they would not be replenished.
Review 10:The location of the hotel is perfect for exploring Geirangerfjord. The View rooms offer spectacular views over the fjord as does the dining area.
Review 11:This hotel is not cheap for what you get. I couldn't believe thatthere was not even a box of tissues in the bathroom! The restaurant wasclosed however we had a bowl of soup for dinner and got a shock to seehow much it cost when we got our bill next morning! Breakfast was ok buthave had better in much cheaper establishments.
Review 12:The location was great with a wonderful view over the fjord from thebar/dining area. It had character and a sense of history about it.
Review 13:Wish the wifi worked better! Spotty at best! Also wish there had been a separate menu rather than a buffet! But all wa s good!
Review 14:Lovely location and fabulous views! Staff friendly and helpful!
Review 15:Very friendly staff . She noticed my kids didn't come down to eat breakfast so she let me pack up some food to take to the room since breakfast buffet was closing soon.
Review 16:1) No kettle, tea/coffee in the room - we had to go downstairs to the bar to get hot water. 2) Bathroom was very small. 3) No lift - dragging the suitcases all the way to the top floor was very difficult. 4) No TV - but we were there to see the nature, not watch movies.
Review 17:1) Location - it is not right at the fiord, but up on the hill with an amazing view of the fiord from above. 2) Breakfast is included in the room price - good range of food available. 3) Free WiFi - the connection was a little slow. 4) Free parking.
Review 18:Rooms are a bit noisy
Review 19:Location on the fiord, even though we had a room on the fall and not on the fiord:)) Breakfast for kings!! The hall with a superb view.
Review 20:Nothing that I didn't like, just a warning: if you arriving by ship, book a taxi in Geiranger beforehand as there are only 2 cabs in operation! Forget about trying to walk up to the hotel with your luggage.
Review 21:FJORD VIEW! Absolutely stunning! Worth every penny. The hotel staff was very friendly. All my booking preferences were satisfied. Very good breakfast.
Review 22:The room and its bathroom were the smallest of the ten we had during our trip to Norway, although this was our most expensive night, at 1560NOK including breakfast but NOT the baby cot that we needed, and for which we had to pay an extra 210NOK -- a mean little detail that we didn't appreciate, and that fortunately is not at all common in Norway...
Review 23:The views from our room to the Geiranger fjord and surrounding mountains were truly impressive.
Review 24:Parking can be an issue when the hotel is full
Review 25:Loved the location (we really liked to be be out of the center of town for two reasons: avoiding the insanity of Geiranger cruiseship crowds + having the beautiful views).
Review 26:Room was slightly too small, inward facing view was somewhat underwhelming (wished for an outward facing room). Long walk to town is great when you have energy, but taxing on the way back up.
Review 27:Location is outside of town center, so you have better views (higher up) and much less surrounding foot traffic. Easy walk to Westeras farm, and to many trailheads.
Review 28:WIFI free but not working reliably. Connection is dropping every 5 min, bandwidth is slim. Relatively far from Geiranger. Badly needs renovation of rooms. No TV.
Review 29:It is an ok hotel.
Review 30:The room was small and had very little storage space, which was inconvenient for a 4 night stay. Also it was very noisy, with every footstep in the floor above being obtrusively audible.
Review 31:Excellent location, overlooking the fjord from well above the town of Geiranger. Evening meals were excellent, although a bit expensive.
Review 32:Without a car you have to get a cab (of which there seemed to be only one in the whole town) back and forth. We did walk down for dinner one night but it was a long walk up!! Having said that - we were quite happy to pay the taxi cost for the fantastic view we had out of our hotel room window.
Review 33:All the staff were super friendly and helpful. The view from our fjord view room was simply stunning. We arrived to very good weather and had the most jaw dropping views right down the fjord. Worth it just for the view!
Review 34:Outdated, it needs renovation urgently Room doors are old and needs to be converted into electronic card system instead of a key.
Review 35:Great location! Very nice view of the Geirangerfjord. Comfortable bed, practical bathroom, beautiful designed friendly lobby and reception area as well as staff. Good breakfast
Review 36:Room, and especially the bathroom, were quite small for the price
Review 37:Incredible fjord view, friendly staff, good breakfast buffet, clean and well-kept rooms, parking
Review 38:This hotel has one of the most beautiful views in the world, the Geiranger fjord. It is a historic property that values its heritage, but also adapts to the traveler of today. The staff was helpful, kind, and patient. The breakfast was delicious and had an outstanding variety of foods for a variety of people.
Review 39:There is no appliances to make hot water (for drinking) in the room
Review 40:We booked two rooms with fjord view, and the room really have an excellent view of the fjord, actually one of the hotel with the best view during our stay in Norway. The breakfast is also excellent. The location is around ten minutes drive from central Geiranger,
Review 41:a very long walk down to the water 2-3km and there is a lot of traffic from the street which is in front of the hotel and many tour buses pass by.
Review 42:Great location with terrific views of the fjord from above. Pay the extra cost for a room with a fjord view, totally worth it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend a meal at Vesteras Restaurant, a short walk from hotel in the hillside. Try the goat meat! Do the Storsaeterfossen hike up to a stunning waterfall where you can actually walk behind it. About 1 1/2hrs.
Review 43:Disappointing breakfast. Avoid staying in a garden room on second floor.
Review 44:Most of the hotels in Geiranger received so-so reviews so we chose Hotel Utsikten which seemed to receive a better rating. The hotel is filled with history and the location is awesome. It's way up on a mountain side. The hotel has a lot of charm with amazing views of Geiranger and the fjord. We had a garden room on the second floor which is on the back side of the hotel without a lot of privacy. It faced a house and yard and if the occupant(s) would have come out to their yard they would have been able to easily look into our hotel room unless we had the curtains closed. We had dinner in their restaurant and it was quite good, not exceptional. The breakfast was average with a fairly limited selection. Somewhat disappointing. There is free parking and free wifi. No elevators. If you walk out the hotel and up the hill to the left you will soon come to some more outstanding views and interesting areas. If you turn right from the hotel and walk down the hill you will have more views including a nearby waterfall. It takes about 10 minutes to drive to Geiranger. On balance we were very happy we stayed at Hotel Utsikten rather than in town.
Review 45:Nothing I can think of.
Review 46:The view is fantastic, second to none. Will have to pay a little more for the fjord view. But it is worth very NOK of it. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Shared some walking trails with us. The room is huge and clean.
Review 47:I was charged 420 Kr for a single small glass of wine with my dinner. This may have been due to a new waitress. I didn't notice the error until a few weeks later and back home in England.
Review 48:The view from the room
Review 49:Most spectacular view of any hotel I have ever stayed in. Old world charm and an excellent staff. Well worth the crazy drive up the hill to the property.
Review 50:Would have liked a "small plate" or light meal option in the evening
Review 51:Location, service and beauty. Away from the town center and cruise ships was good for us.
Review 52:It is a long walk to town so buy everything then take the Hop on hop off bus and ask driver to drop you off at hotel.
Review 53:Location very near main view points
Review 54:Of course, if you want to stay at the hotel you need have a car... we didn't but the taxi took us up on the hill: if you have heavy luggage it's too far away to go up, and up, and up... But when you are there, there is no disappoitment: the view is fantastic, you can't believe you are on planet Earth! It's very good idea no to have TV in the rooms - just sit and look out the window. Mainly all mountain tracks starts at the hotel: you don't need go a long way - you are already in the mountains. The staff is realy nice and frendly, realy helpful girls: the took us down to the village with the hotel car.It is worth to come back!
Review 55:Our room was a bit small. Slow Wi-Fi Internet. Expensive.
Review 56:Superb view of one of the most beautiful fjords in Norway. Delicious food at the restaurant.
Review 57:Loved it: fantastic location with an almost unreal picture postcard view from our window :-D Really nice to stay in a traditional norsk hotel with history. There are a great selection of historic old photos around the hotel showing the tourism of days gone, when a horse & cart were a normal mode of transport :-) and when the first motor cars and cruise ships started to visit the area :-) excellent!! Will definitely come back! :-D
Review 58:The price was very high, despite the perfect view we have from the hotel. Breakfast could have more variety.
Review 59:Great location and great view. Very cosy and romantic room.
Review 60:The menu selection is quite limited, and since the hotel is a bit out of the way from other options, this matters a bit.
Review 61:This hotel has one thing more spectacular than most others, and that is the view over the Geiranger fjord.
Review 62:old fashioned, colourless and small rooms, no colours, no comfort, no flowers or decoration, no TV, seems the room did not change in all the hotels history, it was the most expensive hotel on our tour and the worst rooms. You are glad when you leave the room. 3-plate-dinner should cost nearly 600 NOK !!! Seems at least to be a good place for the owners................
Review 63:location over the fjord is top, could be a good place if owners would spend at least some money in more comfort for guests, not only sacking in!
Review 64:As long as you go in knowing what you're in for, there is nothing to complain about, unless you're that sort of person!
Review 65:The Chef at the time we were staying at this hotel created a different 3 course meal every night, which was grade A+ cooking. Amazing, someone should be putting her in charge of a kitchen in Oslo pronto! The view and location = Stunning The staff were great and very cheerful and helpful!
Review 66:The parking is not enough big when hotel is full, and there is no other place to park safely.
Review 67:Rooms with fjord view are wonderfull. Definitely the best place in all Geiranger.
Review 68:There's no aircon in the room on a hot july day with the sun shining for so many hours right into the fjord view room can be quite unbearable. No portable fan available. They also do not have a small kettle for use in the room. We had to move to a room with the mountain view for the next day.
Review 69:The fjord views from the room and hotel are excellent. There's an interesting walking trail that leads from the hotel all the way down to Fjord Center and it it besides the waterfall most of the way. We were able to walk a short distance to Flydalsjuvet and The Queen's Chairt early in the morning and have the whole place to ourselves, well before the buses bring in the crowds.
Review 70:There was not much parking but we were able to park on-site for free. There was no elevator so we had to drag our heavy bags up two flights of stairs. Our room was not air conditioned and was uncomfortably warm due to the unusually high temperatures most of Scandinavia was experiencing at the time of our visit.
Review 71:Location, location, location! We had "fjord-view" rooms which lived up to the billing! The hotel is situated above the fjord and our large, picture-window had a incredible view of the fjord below. The room was a little small but nicely updated and decorated. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The breakfast was excellent. The staff worked with us to make arrangements for our late arrival after reception had closed.
Review 72:Far from the harbor, a taxi to the hotel costs like 160 nok. But you get the view and a better starting point for hiking.
Review 73:I booked the room with fjord view and the view is indeed beautiful. The room was a little bit small but clean and comfortable. Staff were very friendly & helpful, gave me great advice on hiking in Geiranger. Right next to the famous viewpoint Flydalsjuvet and you can take the Dalsnibba bus in front of the hotel (just have to check with the staff in advance). Overall a great experience staying in Hotel Utsikten.
Review 74:Very thin towels Bathroom was very small No fridge in the room or tea and coffee
Review 75:Amazing view Good breakfast buffet A good restaurant in the evening Friendly staff Room was clean Good location
Review 76:Great unsurpassed view. Staff went out of their way to help us. Upgraded us to a vary large family room when first room was not acceptable. No trouble with parking.
Review 77:No options for vegans (like soy/rice milk, peanut butter...)
Review 78:The Hotel is amazing! The view is perfect! The location is very good BUT you will need a car, otherwise, to go around, you'll need a taxi because there are no buses from the Geiranger Center to the Hotel. (and isn't a good idea take a taxi in Norway)
Review 79:Nothing at all.
Review 80:This was our favorite place the whole trip. The hotel is wonderful. Great hiking. Excellent food and staff were amazing. Loved it. Out of all the hotels this one has the best view hands down!
Review 81:There was no elevator and we had to carry our suitcases 2 floors obove. and there was no TV screen.
Review 82:We found a very good service by the desk staff. We had a problem with ouer rented car and Celia from the reception helped us above and beyond that was expected, and saved our trip.
Review 83:Small parking lot
Review 84:This is a wonderful classic Norwegian property with smallish rooms, but the view makes up for any shortcomings. We had two fjord view rooms and the view was truly fantastic. Breakfast was plentiful and good, rooms clean, good service. We liked this location up above the fjord as the panorama from there is better than being down at sea level. Viewpoint right out front. We loved our stay here.
Review 85:Dinner was good but is very expensive - I would do it once, but there are very good restaurants in town (Brasserie Posten, OleBuda Restaurant). The town is pretty much a tourist trap.
Review 86:We would unreservedly recommend Hotel Utsikten for anyone thinking of visiting the Geiranger area. The staff were nothing short of amazing, from recommending daily activities, to friendly banter and helping us with our lost luggage (from flying Norwegian). As others have mentioned, the food is really really good, but you will pay Norwegian prices. Breakfast was also very good and they can make you a packed lunch if you are heading out on long hikes. The room we had was excellent - the view just breathtaking. We did see some other rooms that we're smaller so it may just be luck which you end up with. There are endless hikes and climbs in and around the area, including other activities such as kayaking, bike rental etc. Would certainly recommend over the other hotels in the area which just don't look as nice.
Review 87:Everything
Review 88:Small room but nice !
Review 89:The location and the view of the fjord are fabulous. The hotel has retained its charm from the past.
Review 90:staff was excellent, view was the best, celebrated or 53 wedding anniversary. Had a wonderful time.
Review 91:Restaurant was closed. Quality of the salad at the bar was lacking for the price. Beds were uncomfortable.
Review 92:Very good location overlooking Geiranger.
Review 93:room was very small
Review 94:Breakfast is great
Review 95:location and nice view in rooms.
Review 96:only one problem - there is no lift

Review 101:Capable friendly staff in a fabulous location. Nice that you park for free on property.
Review 102:Outstanding view, nice, cosy and comfortable hotel. Perfect stay for a visit to wonderful Geirangerfjord!
Review 103:No elevator - 3 floors with baggage... Small rooms - and we didn't get those with view..
Review 104:The area is amazing - top spot in Norway
Review 105:Parking facility
Review 106:View
Review 107:none
Review 108:Great view, nice receptionist
Review 109:Small room
Review 110:The view outside the window
Review 111:View, historic place, staff, helpfulness, food. You have the sun outside and inside the hotel :)
Review 112:Size of the Room and non availability of Vegetetian Options for food
Review 113:The Location
Review 114:Excellent staff. Lots of good conversation and information.
Review 115:Fantastic views, welcoming staff, cute hotel.
Review 116:Overpriced dinner for comparable im area
Review 117:Close to the farm stay and hiking trails.
Review 118:poor soundproofing, can hear everything going on in the next room. Same breakfast every day...
Review 119:A distancia ate o centro (3 kms).
Review 120:A vista do fiorde, otimo local para quem gosta de caminhadas.
Review 121:The position and staff
Review 122:Shower booth was too small.
Review 123:Staff members did their best to solve clinents' troubles.
Review 124:A bit overpriced for what you get. Small rooms. Food was good but not like most places we stayed.
