Reviews for Hotel los Arcos

Review 1:Continental breakfast including in the room rate was so-so, not enough to feed us, it's all sugar (bread and jam, fruit, fruit juice). American-type sockets instead of classic Mexican ones, so we had to charge our phones at the reception. Been bothered by mosquitoes all night.

Review 2:Lovely hotel in a gorgeous settings, very friendly and helpful staff, on-site restaurant.

Review 3:A softer mattress would make the stay even more comfortable. The Wireless network was not always working in the room and a bit slow. In Taxco you really want to share the nice pictures with your family and friends ;)

Review 4:The location is just great close to the cathedral. The view from the rooftop terrace is amazing. The building is really old so has a lot of charm and the rooms are nice and clean.

Review 5:The service in the restaurant downstairs is very slow, as they had only one server for breakfast, with multiple tables all waiting for coffee, food, etc.

Review 6:Very unique hotel with a great and unique decor, comfortable beds and fantastic location.

Review 7:Although extremely clean and well maintained, the rooms are a bit rustic, with a basic shower and a tiled floor that I wouldn't want to walk on without shoes or flip-flops. That's to be expected at this price-point and is very typical for Mexico, but if you are a person that would want the sparkling, gleaming cleanliness of a quality business-class hotel, you'd want to upgrade to a higher-end place.

Review 8:The place is gorgeous, with an enormous tree growing in the courtyard. Very helpful staff. I slept very well while here.

Review 9:The only suggestion would be a welcome map on arrival to get your bearings.

Review 10:Wonderful beds and and excellent location. This place is stunning with a massive tree in the internal courtyard. We loved it!!!

Review 11:The hotel used to be a hacienda. It has lots of lovely spaces for guests to chill out on sofas in covered corridors and open patios....surrounded by plants and books to leaf through...The rooms are nice and well lit. And it's a 5-minute climb to the zocalo - but everywhere is a steep climb in Tasco! The restaurant on the ground floor serves meals throughout the day.

Review 12:The rooms on the street side are not well isolated so there's a lot of noise from the street which can keep you awake. Wifi is free, but it does not reach the rooms. It's a cash only hotel, no credit card payment allowed

Review 13:Hotel Los Arcos is a stunning colonial style hotel. It is perfectly located a stone's throw from the central plaza and cathedral. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Taxco. Very good value for money. The restaurant for dinner is excellent but it's run by someone else. The hotel uses the same place for breakfast , but different kitchen with noticeably less quality. Big surprise and plus: don't forget to go up the roof terrace and enjoy the amazing view!

Review 14:Some mosquitoes able to enter.

Review 15:I became sick en rute to Taxco and literally dropped into bed on arrival. I was allowed to check in 2 hours early, which was only the first act of kindness. When I woke up a few hours later and realized I needed a doctor, the maids and especially the reception manager (Marika/Martika- so sorry I was too fevered to get this right) organized the staff to not only get a doctor to do a house call, but picked up my drugs, made up for my currency shortage, and came every few hours to bring my antibiotics and other meds to me- without me leaving my bed or having to figure out the schedule with interfering, severe symptoms. I can't imagine anyone doing this anywhere. They are kind and professional. And, they accommodated me to stay a bit over until my bus left late the next day, in the middle of a busy weekend. Wow! I wonder what they do for guest who are super-imposing? And, when I did at last leave, I did take notice of the lovely architecture, well done décor, framed textiles on the walls, and the lovely bed textiles. I can't thank them enough, but I do think I would have enjoyed it in good health too. ha ha

Review 16:Although it was a great place, I wish I would have asked for a different room. They assigned me one directly off the lobby which, although having windows on three sides, was very dark. The windows seemed only to let in a lot of noise: construction on one side, children and dogs from the side facing the neighbors, and sounds from guests/neighbors on the third. Also, the wifi is only in the lobby. Even though my room had a window facing the lobby, I did not get wifi in my room. Also, they allowed a family to bring a parrot with them...this parrot talked all day long and you could hear it throughout the hotel. Hopefully they don't let guests bring parrots in the future ;)

Review 17:Beautiful place! Exciting architecture and perfect location. Very clean and friendly staff. They let me check in early and allowed me to leave my bag after checking out so that I could continue to tour the town. They did not speak English, but were very patient with my poor Spanish and pantomiming. While using Wifi in the lobby, the waiter in the adjoining restaurant served me very affordable drinks.

Review 18:Los Arcos is a gorgeous hotel, the decor is stunning with local artwork and style down the tiny details. The location is great, not noisy and close to the main square. Breakfast isn't included but the hotel serves great breakfast which is value for money (pancakes are great). The staff went out their way to serve us and made us cocktails on the roof terrace. I'm dying to come back to Taxco and if I do if stay here again no questions.

Review 19:The included continental breakfast is a shame. You're better off taking the room without breakfast and choosing whatever you want from the menu. Should be about the same price and you get much more.

Review 20:Very nice, small and comfy hotel. Great location and epic margaritas!

Review 21:CONs:- No hot water, tepid only*while it's possible many people wouldn't mind this if showering in the afternoon, I had just returned from Las Pozas, my clothes still wet from swimming, and would've liked a hot shower.*I asked reception and was told to run the water 5 or 10 min, but after 20 min, I realized there simply wasn't any warm water for my room. I don't know if that's the case in every room.-There's no A/C, but it's really not needed in March. The highs were upper 80s and lower 90s, but the breeze from the open windows was wonderful. Of course, there aren't any screens on the windows, so an annoying mosquito managed to bother me all night. (*In the summer, this would be a big problem. Mexico doesn't really "do" window screens, so this can't be considered a fault that solely lies with Los Arcos.)-My room faced the street, which was noisy during rush hour-The stairs are narrow and uneven. Not recommended for elderly visitors, or those who aren't sure-footed.- You will need to carry your own bags. Pack light.-Reception does not speak English, and this isn't a place with customer service in mind, so if you require more than basic, clean accommodation, you might be happier elsewhere. In sum, I loved this place and would stay here again if I could ascertain that another room had hot water. Unfortunately, a cold shower is a deal-breaker for me.Hope that helps! Enjoy Taxco! **General Taxco Advice***No matter where you end up staying in Taxco, you should pack light! It is often difficult to get a cab during rush hours and it was impossible for me during my stay during spring break/Holy Week (Semana Santa). Thus, if you are unable to find a cab, you will be forced to walk up and down uneven, narrow cobblestone streets while cars and trucks- and sometimes buses- squeeze past you. Therefore, the lighter, the better.Lots of walking up and down uneven cobblestone narrow streets.

Review 22:I stayed here in March of 2015 and loved the layout and decor, although a few important elements were lacking. Here are my thoughts: PROs: -Cheaper than comparable hotels in the area - during the height of their most popular tourist season (Easter/spring break), I paid $60 for saturday night and $30 for Sunday. *with 2 month advance reservations - I do NOT recommend "popping in" on Taxco. It's not as bad as Miami, but it fills up fast and the prices sky-rocket. -Great location 2 blocks downhill of the zocalo and about 5 blocks uphill from the bus station -Charming room and grounds - Pretty, open courtyard lobby with a soothing fountain -Chairs and wicker sofas surround the courtyard lobby and are surprisingly comfortable - HUGE wrap-around shared terrace, 300° view of everything. The last 60° view of everything upwards. Beautiful at sunset. Great pics. - Hammock on terrace. - Restaurant on site. Romantic candle-lit atmosphere at night. - Interesting layout with flights of crooked stairs on opposing sides, which add to its colonial charm and authenticity - I liked my room, the bed was comfortable and had fair quality bedding -My room faced the street, allowing the best breezes to whisp through my room, keeping it cool in the warm afternoons. It was also on an end, so I rarely heard other guests. -The bathroom size was ok -The room was large and had a fair amount of counter space in the room -I peeked at the suites as the maids were cleaning and they looked very spacious and comfortable

Review 23:We had ants in the room. Booking.com offered us a late check-out as an added value for the Genius account, but in the hotel they have never heard of anything like that. At the end they accepted, but not very excited about it. For the Booking.com discount it was great, but for the full price which we saw at the reception (double the price we got) it would be not worth it.

Review 24:Great comfy bed, the hotel is gorgeous, in colonial style. Perfect location near the Zocalo.

Review 25:A quaint little B&B-type accommodation; I especially liked the well-laid out rooftop that offers lovely views as well as chairs and small tables (and a hammock!). Provisions are simple - no lift, no aircon - but all you really need is provided; rooms are spacious and clean. The whole place has an amiable rustic, idyllic vibe especially with its large open courtyard. Location is ideal - about a minute's walk from the main square (Plaza Borda) where the famed Parroquia de Santa Prisca is located, and about a 5 min cab ride from where I got off the bus. It also took me less than an hour to walk down from Cristo Monumental.

Review 26:Stained tablecloths (even though the restaurant is not owned by the hotel, they should have a look at these little details as their name gets involved), the staircase is steep and narrow, not all of it has a banister so it would be sensible to have someone to help with suitcases, internet cuts off everywhere at the hotel and guest access numbers don't work, its free so bleh :I.

Review 27:Nearby downtown great location, friendly staff, cute place, large rooms

Review 28:I gave 4/5 for the bed, but its same for almost all hotels across mexico.

Review 29:Stuff is absolutely amazing, helpful and carrying. Location is great, the restaurant inside hotel is also amazing, the owner speaks very good English and went out of her way to help us when we had problems outside of the hotel. Also restaurant had the best coffee in mexico! Must try!

Review 30:The room was next to the street and there were too many fumes coming in from exhaust (we were there during inversion weather).

Review 31:Great location, nice setting, very clean

Review 32:Breakfast was included but very limited with toast, juice and tea or coffee. Our room was at the top of precipitous oldstairs and we could have done with some help with our luggage.

Review 33:The hotel is superbly located, a few minutes from the Zocalo. It has a superb terrace where you can sunbathe and admire the lovely views.

Review 34:The price that you get when you book the room doesn´t have tax. Then, when you pay and add the tax you realise that you didn´t really save money.

Review 35:It´s is clean and tidy hotel.

Review 36:Can't think of anything, except that the room prices were originally calculated in pesos (after converting from USD), but then two months later the exchange rate had changed in favor of the dollar yet the cost was still charged in pesos at the old rate.

Review 37:Location is superb; Cleanliness is impeccable; Upkeep of this magnificent old monastery is commendable; Eating at the restaurant was a delight; Hotel staff were always more than willing to help with anything; The ambience of this grand, old structure is simply unbeatable; Parking is relatively straightforward, once you figure it out; Room comfort, hot water, views ... all of them were excellent; Décor in each room is different, and wonderfully executed.

Review 38:Toilet did not work- would not flush. We waited over an hour in lobby at 9pm and were told problem was fixed. It wasn't. Waited another half hour, then told to put used toilet paper in bin, and given a plunger to use.Other hotel guests did not have this problem -we should have been moved to another room. Also, if you book, check Bookin.com sites both in English and Spanish. Check both rates. If you book in English you may get overcharged! Hotel only takes Mexican Pesos, and even though we paid in pesos and did not change USD at this hotel, we were charged an unfavorable exchange rate. Do not book with " continental breakfast". La Solventa restaurant prices will be same and full breakfast may be better deal if you just pay at the restaurant.

Review 39:(Just my daughter and myself) As others reported, this hotel is lovely. Rooms look out on courtyard, beautifully decorated areas, keeps seventeenth century atmosphere. Views from terrace are great. If you take Costa or Futura bus, hotel is about a city block (really!) uphill, across from hotel Emilia and ~200 yards downhill from hotel Aqua Escondido. Short uphill walk to Zocalo and Santa Prisca. OXXO nearby. Free internet in room works very well. La Solventa restaurant is attached to hotel and is reasonably priced.

Review 40:Lots of street noise, would definitely stay here again, however, I will request a room at the back of property.

Review 41:Perfect location for walking anywhere. Nice restaurant on premises.

Review 42:The ambiance .

Review 43:Amazing views - really close to the center. Super beautiful building and rooms. The rooftop is spectacular. Staff are helpful and friendly.

Review 44:parking was quite far form the hotel and additionally paid

Review 45:the interiors are amazing and beautifull

Review 47:Style, cleanliness

Review 48:Wonderful people, very clean and comfortable room

Review 49:Breakfast not included.

Review 50:Great location, beautiful building with lovely courtyard and lovely rooms.

Review 53:La décoration y la ubicacion

Review 54:No complaints

Review 55:Large comfortable rooms, nice roof terrace with great views, central location

Review 56:Perfect location off the main square. The hotel is beautiful and has an amazing view from their roof!

Review 57:No apology from reception when i complain about mosquitos

Review 58:The building

Review 59:We like the location, the price, and the rooftop is so beautiful at night!

Review 60:Water is cold

Review 61:no lift, terrible breakfast, only bread and jam

Review 62:Climate old building, poor diet breakfast, high price compared to the standard

Review 63:Internet was working only in the lobby and restaurant, not in our room

Review 64:Very good location, friendly environment, very nice restaurant inside

Review 65:Nothing to comment-they could bell service for folks as the stairs are steep & no elevator.

Review 66:Everything.

Review 67:The staff were very nice, they were pleasant and helpful in every way!

Review 68:wifi does not really work.

Review 69:great hotel, really beautiful inside, rooms are lovely and the restaurant was great.

Review 70:Nothing.

Review 71:Best place to stay in Taxco. Centric, historic.

Review 72:Cable service and Internet supplier.

Review 73:nothing

Review 74:Everything

Review 75:Breakfast included was very small

Review 76:Quite room, style of the hotel (decoration), amazing inner courtyard.

Review 77:Welcoming helpful staff, perfect location! Love the tree in the courtyard.

Review 78:Loved everything!

Review 79:Enjoyed everything could not have asked for more, had a rustic feel to it.

Review 80:Bugs in the room and the free breakfast was very cheap.

Review 81:The atmosphere, comfort and location. Very beautiful historic hotel.

Review 82:This hotel is super quaint. It has a fantastic courtyard and wonderful atmosphere full of Mexican flair. It also has a great view of Santa Prisca church from the rooftop.

Review 83:On our first night we were put into a room on corner of building which fronted 2 streets. It was impossible to sleep due to street noise. No problem changing rooms for our 2nd night.Be sure to ask for an internal room.

Review 84:Beautifully restored monastic building, picturesque courtyard, huge bedroom with comfortable beds.

Review 85:Internet service was poor, not important to us!

Review 86:This hotel is charmingly rustic! Location couldn't be better. Our room was spacious, great view of the main street coming into town. (no. 18); Came home one night to mariachis playing in the dining room. Included breakfast is minimal but fresh OJ and coffee, what more could you want? The staff is excelente! Highly recommend

Review 87:Nice to have a computer available downstairs since I couldn't bring my own. However, they have a parental control program installed that has to be shut off every time you want to use a search engine. Hotel staff that know how to do this are not always available. Difficult if time is an issue.

Review 88:Charming and beautiful. Well-maintained. Restaurant very good and reasonably priced. Beds great. Staff very helpful. They mailed a postcard for me when I couldn't buy a stamp before leaving.

Review 89:The noise of a up-hill party, I can hear the loud music until 2 am but that was during Xmas holidays where parties are around.

Review 90:The room was warm even during winter. The atmosphere of the hotel was great and I loved the big tree in the middle of the building

Review 91:The staff, although very charming ,gave us wrong info. about buses to Mexico city. We spent 2 hours waiting at the bus station and were lucky to get the last 2 seats.

Review 92:Large room, tastefully furnished with views over the valley and up to the Cathedral. The shower room was a good size and plenty of hot water. Generally the hotel is very attractive and well designed. The location is excellent ,very close to the Zocolo etc.

Review 93:Other hotels higher up the hill will have better views of the town, but it's a give and take.

Review 94:A beautiful hotel near the zocalo, but just far enough to reduce some of the noise in that area. A great terrace on top and a fantastic restaurant to boot.

Review 95:Was very noisy when we were there - 11 p.m. and there was shouting and babies crying and banging.

Review 96:Great atmosphere. Lots of details and authentic touches. Very good location.

Review 97:The bed was the most comfortable of all the hotels we stayed at in Mexico. The restaurant downstairs is separate but the food and service was great. Close to the bust station and close to the center of town.

Review 98:Would have liked a kettle for coffee/tea in the room.

Review 99:Pilar, the receptionist was super helpful with bus tickets and info even though her English was minimal! Location perfect. Beds comfortable. Beautiful old building.Taxco is a must on any tour of Mexico.

Review 100:We just come back from our trip to Taxco and couldn't have stay in a better place. Hotel Los Arcos is located in the middle of town, nevertheless very quiet during the night. It's an old monastery with big, bright, clean, cozy rooms, comfortable beds, very helpful and friendly staff, and compared to other places the rates are really moderate. Don't miss to enjoy the view from their roof terrace! We would definitively stay there again.

Review 101:Parking and breakfast aren't included, but there is a parking around the corner and a restaurant (not too good though) in the hotel. One lady at the reception could be a little friendlier, but the rest was perfect!

Review 102:Wonderful little town, wonderful hotel! You have the feeling of being in a fairy-tale. The hotel and room are very well decorated. The location is perfect, very close to the cathedral and a couple of museums.

Review 103:The room was quoted as $66.00, but upon arrival, the price was now$80.00 dollars, what a bring surprice!!!!!

Review 104:Scene, very nice old Mexican style...

Review 105:Given that the bulding is old and has a deep central court this area can be very dark.

Review 106:We liked the staff, the building, the fact that we felt welcome. The hotel is very well located to visit the main downtown area allowing guests to be able to walk to all major attractions. Further the hotel has a restaurant that is integrated in its building yet is separate. The restaurant is excellent and its offerings are delicious and reasonably priced

Review 107:Apparently, this time of year, a church on top of the hill shoots off canon volleys hourly starting at 7am.

Review 108:The hotel staff was excellent and accommodating. The courtyard and rooftop patio are amazing.

Review 109:everything was great!

Review 110:EVERYTHING: the venue (it is in a previously convent building), cozy / authentic and comfortable room with nice view and no street noise, restaurant inside the hotel building, empty rooftop for afternoon / evening chill. A very pleasant and stylish / homy stay!

Review 111:I loved everything. To some people the slopes might be too much but we didn't have a problem we loved the cardio.

Review 112:I loved the view from all the rooftops. I also loved all the beautiful places taxco has to offer.

Review 113:Prices were too high for what the hotel is. Yes the hotel is pretty, but rooms are very basic, shower had almost no pressure, same thing with the toilette, etc.

Review 114:Very pretty hotel (aesthetically)

Review 115:The staff was friendly and helpful and the rooms and common areas were pleasant and homey. The attached restaurant is good and reasonably priced. The location is almost perfect; maybe 60 seconds from the Zocalo. The terrace has a great view.

Review 116:Bathroom is tiny and needs update, so do the towels

Review 117:Really friendly and helpful staff, we were able to leave our bags there after checkout. The rooms are comfy with great beds and pillows, simple decor with a fan provided. Bathrooms are very small and could do with an update - there is no ventilation apart from a tiny window in the shower at chest height, and the towels are old arer scratchy. Great location and we had a nice lunch at the restaurant. Georgous interior courtyard, also patio upstairs with a hammock.f

Review 118:Many many stone steps to the bedrooms; bedrooms were Spartan - no usual basics such as tissues; hair dryer; etc. Biggest problem was the hot and cold water controls were reversed and there was no indicator or sign in the room. As it was it took about 8 minutes for the hot water to come on and the shower was simply a trickle.

Review 119:The setting is lovely with an open roof and tree in the lobby. The staff was very nice and the breakfasts (not included) were a good value for the money. The front desk was very helpful and even got a driver for us to take us back to Mexico City. BIG WARNING the hotel does not accept credit cards and it was NOT on the booking confirmation. The hotel wanted payment for the first night on arrival and luckily we had enough cash with us but not for the second night too. They did let us pay the next day for it but Booking.com should warn their clients.

Review 120:The building in general needs a deep cleaning. There seems to be enough staff on the premise that can, at a minimum, be used to dust the beautiful pottery; the sitting room; etc. The sitting room is lovely and has much potential (the chimney is a bonus). However, because the couches and paintings seem dusty, the appeal is quickly lost. Also, there was a musty smell to the room which can easily get remedied by using appropriate cleaning products. I should add here that after opening the windows and turning on the fan, we were able to get rid of the odor. We share these comments here so that hotel management can take them to improve the operation. Overall, we would definitely recommend this hotel and we would stay here again.

Review 121:Hotel Los Arcos was centrally located and only a two-minute walk from the center of town. The hotel has historic charms which is a added bonus. There is a charming courtyard surrounded by arches and beautiful old trees and plants which made sipping on coffee in the morning particularly relaxing. The queen size bed was comfortable. Hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. I loved the juices and the music in the sitting area.

Review 122:This was a beautiful old monastary converted into hotel. The setting was lovely and beds were very comfortable. The restaurant was very nice too, and a great location in Taxco.

Review 123:The shower pressure was low. Unfortunately, there was a smoking areadirectly next to the restaurant, which made dining there unpleasant.

Review 124:The architecture and design of the hotel were unique. The room wasspacious and comfortable. The views from the rooftop deck wereexcellent. The location is less than one block from the city center.

Review 125:Nada. But then, it seems to be the off-season and it was not very full.

Review 126:Taxco is such a fascinating little town, and Los Arcos is right in the middle of it. Location: excellent. Built around a colonial courtyard the rooms are on many levels. No aircon (as is normal in small places) it had a very efficient modern fan. A charming place with friendly helpful staff.

Review 127:There is no parking right at the hotel, but there are lots available.

Review 128:This is a VERY charming and beautiful hotel. The location is terrific, the rooms are very comfortable and the restaurant is quite good. I would definitely stay here again.
