Hiogiso offers public cypress Hinoki baths overlooking the Ago Bay. Guests can use free Wi-Fi at the lobby and relax at the terrace featuring Hinoki wooden furniture. A free shuttle is available from Kintetsu Ugata Train Station, a 10-minute ride away, if booked at time of booking.
Rooms feature Hinoki wood in its architecture, and guests sleep in Japanese futon bedding on tatami (woven-straw) floors. Each comes with a flat-screen TV, a fridge and a private toilet. Japanese Yukata robes are provided for all guests and bathroom facilities are shared.
Guests can play on the Hinoki wooden-made table tennis facilities and shop for local souvenirs at the gift shop. Massages can be requested for an extra cost and barbecue facilities are available. Guests can enjoy playing at the children’s playground on the terrace or go fishing at the property’s pier.
Japanese dishes featuring local seafood can be enjoyed at the dining room.

Review 1：In an exceptional landscape right at the sea level in the Ago bay, two wonderful hosts welcome you kindly, propose you tasty Japanese meals, and then a relaxing bath in their beautiful onsen. The day finishes in a typical room with the best comfort and a perfectly silent night. The feast continues on the next day, with an excellent nippon breakfeast. This is the best ryokan we visited during our stroll through this region of Japan.

Review 2：extremely helpful and forthvoming personnel. Dinner was wonderful, we took a boat ride to see the sunset and surrounding islands. When leaving they had made lunch boxes for our trip, drove us to the station with a detour to the post office and a local view point - all for free!! Would recommend it to anyone with all my heart. Been to Japan countless times and this tops everything in terms of service and hotel/facilities.

Review 4：The staff was really helpful and accommodating of all my specific requirements, and even let me use the private bathroom of another room when they saw my face after saying the shared showers were together with the public bath. The food was amazing, especially the kaiseki dinner with plenty of local seafood. The view on the Ago bay was also very nice and since the hotel is a bit remote, they have a free shuttle minibus that you can use if you book in advance.

Review 5：As a traditional Japanese Hotel Hiogiso had perfect style and ambience with minimalist interiors and a great spa bath. After two weeks of travelling in Japan we needed more creature comforts, the hotel did what they could to help.

Review 12：This Ryokan is literally on the waters edge in a quiet bay - for those who want to experience something unique in Japan this is authentic and exceptional. Westerners be aware this is traditional - communal bathing and futons aren't for everyone. For those willing to give it a try this is fabulous!
