Reviews for Memmo Baleeira - Design Hotels
Review 1:The breakfast room is quite small and could be a problem in high season, they are possibly addressing this
Review 2:clean bright decor and comfortable rooms, Great location. Staff were excellent. Nice breakfast
Review 3:amazing hotel, absolutely perfect for families with small kids, play room for kids, babysitter even French, restaurant very good, staff in the restaurant very friendly and professional, parking, view, big rooms, confort.
Review 4:Outside areas need a lick of paint.
Review 5:Staff were all fantastic, especially with our young boy. Despite the hotel only having approx 10 guests in total, the breakfasts were phenomenal!
Review 6:Small old TV in the room, no hdmi input. Shower pressure is quite weak.
Review 7:Amazing views, very beautiful, best location, very modern very stylish. Best restaurant on the coast - delicious home made pizzas and tasty duck, delicious carpaccio. Wide range of massages, good spa. 20 Mbit WiFi. Nice breakfast.
Review 8:Interior swimming pool is small, but that is not a big issue unless you only want to go there in the late afternoon busy hour.
Review 9:Superb view, excelent staff, great food. The kids loved the jumper.
Review 10:(1) Make sure you book a sea view, balcony room; the landward rooms negate many of the attractions of the hotel, and face the nondescript car park!. With a four star seaside hotel, most guests would surely expect to have a view of the sea? ( 2) We had one evening dinner in the hotel - perhaps the worst eating experience of our week in Portugal; first course (the "standard" soup) took 20 mins. to arrive, main course another 45 with one person served 10+ minutes before the other. Perhaps it was just a one-off, but the kitchen did not appear geared up for dealing with more than a few customers. There were no apologies given. We ate at local restaurants (3) Several facilities need some urgent maintenance ("TLC") -eg. indoor pool, outdoor pool area and furniture, etc.; some instructions sheets on walls e.g.. health spa, are very out of date, etc, etc. (4) BEWARE, especially if you have children or are elderly - One of us slipped on a flight of steps on the signposted outside path in early evening [Due, it emerged, to some oily residues left from garden maintenance that day], injuring back and pelvis badly and just avoiding concussion on step edge ... or much worse. Hotel reception was "concerned" but took about 15h. of reminding before hotel staff had taken appropriate avoidance measures. Hotel also has no accident book ..... ! The accident victim had enough medical background to assess injuries but they took 4+ weeks to repair. Also, the accident did limit the activities we had planned. This incident is perhaps a manifestation of the prioritisation of proactive maintenance that is needed by management [See No.3 above]. [For the avoidance of doubt, we are providing full details only so that anyone reading this review might think about potential risks, especially with more frail family members]. (5) Midges and mosquitos! However, sea breezes can help keep them at bay. Take some good repellents.
Review 11:Excellent location above bay and harbour. Reception and cleaning staff friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and well-equipped. Area around Sagres very attractive for those not wanting the town life and facilities of much of rest of the rather over-developed Algarve. Breakfast amazing. On good days, dawn, sunset and the cool sea breeze are amazing. [Visit mid-October 2015]
Review 12:The staff here are exceptional. There is a great breakfast spread every morning that gives you the energy to explore the lovely sights nearby. We made use of their available bicycles and rode over to the Sagres Fort, which we agreed was our favorite excursion of our 17-day Portugal trip. If you eat at the restaurant onsite, order the Cod Fish gratin. Superb.
Review 13:the hot water failed to work in the morning, the hotel was unable to get plumbers there to fix it before we had to leave to drive to Lisbon airport to catch an international flight. Sponge baths are not acceptable before a day of travel.
Review 14:friendly staff, excellent breakfast buffet
Review 15:the WiFi sometimes was a bit weak, but I think it depends on the room.
Review 16:Amazing location, tasty food (best pizza in Portugal!), great ocean view, high quality rooms. Best hotel in Sagres.
Review 17:Nothing
Review 18:Very lovely Hotel at a beautiful place, stylish interieur. The staff was very kind and helpful, our rooms spacy, with a fantastic view at the bay of Sagres. We will come back for sure.
Review 19:Seemed like they were just not set up for the ad hoc traveler. Especially couldn't handle it when the weather was bad.
Review 20:Hotel was great in the location
Review 21:A little disappointed with service on a couple of occasions - nothing major though just little touches. For example no one told us at check-in or during our stay that there was a children's play room until we discovered it by accident on our second last day.
Review 22:The location was amazing and the rooms were very spacious and comfortable. It was an easy walk into town each night for dinner and to beaches during the day.
Review 23:Really relaxing atmosphere, beautiful room, great location. Having exclusive use of the indoor pool for 30 minutes was a real luxury. The food was fresh and well cooked. I stayed here 2 years ago and couldn't wait to come back, wasn't disappointed.
Review 24:You had to ask in advance for the front desk to turn on the sauna and steam room. The pool area had nobody at reception. These facilities were really poor.
Review 25:Great breakfast - a big choice with something for everyone. Lovely Sea view of sunrise every morning.
Review 26:I didn't like the fact you had to book the pool in the afternoon and only for 30min periods
Review 27:The view from our sea view room was the best I've seen in years. Very special.
Review 28:Despite our request for a quite room we got a room with a view on the harbour where VERY noisy demolition and construction works were carried out every day starting at 7.30 am until late afternoon. Definitely this problem regarded all rooms in our part of the hotel and the noise was also noticeable at the swimming pool area. There was no information about this "inconvenient" when we made the reservation.
Review 29:Tasty breakfast.
Review 30:no attention to detail / despite complaints no soap in toilet near pool / pool area got the ambience of a fridge / staff not trained / forgot reservation in restaurant and not even a word of excuse / food was overcooked on top and soggy on bottom (cannelloni) and my partner got sick on the car park / so-called "land view rooms" face car park, i.e. noise and pollution / some staff rather rude / breakfast scrambled eggs looked like soup / boiled egg charge EURO 1.00 !!!!!!! / not up to 4 stars at all / no towels in sauna, you are expected to use your pool towel and then take it back up to the room after having sweated on it
Review 31:only stayed since we could not afford to leave and move somewhere else after having paid
Review 32:Lovely hotel complex sat on a cliff top looking out to sea in Sagres, one of our most favourite places. Very competent and pleasant staff made this a 2 day visit to cherish.
Review 33:Long wait everyday to get menu for lunch, for order to be taken and to get food. Waited over 30 mins for an omlette. Was not busy with people at the time. I didn't mind as I was not in a hurry.
Review 34:Good location in Sagres. Nice rooms. Nice views. Pool was clean. Quiet location.
Review 35:Breakfast is standard but nothing special
Review 36:Nice location Polite and helpful staff confortable Very good noise protection in rooms All necessary facilities
Review 37:Dirty room and mediocre service let's this otherwise pleasant hotel down. Very windy and very limited pool space. Overall the outside area could do with a bit more attention to detail.
Review 38:Hotel in a very good location, which however can't live up to the design and luxury standards it aims for.
Review 39:We visited the hotel for the 4th time. Apart from some refurbishment done to the restaurant, the rooms look more worn down each time we come (photos attached). The rooms are not of a 4* hotel at all. Also, the cleaning ladies dont respect the 'do not disturb' sign hanging on the door, which is outrageous. Plus the gym area is a joke, in terms of both its size and state of the equipment
Review 40:The restaurants... when we first checked in the receptionist advised us to eat out and that was good advice.. The breakfast room was MANIC... far,far too many people in a very small self service buffet area and one day someone will get badly hurt in there, it's an accident waiting to happen. The ground floor restaurant is very good food, albeit on a limited choice menu and in the warmer evenings the attached terrace would be a bit magical with views out to sea and down into the port area. However, on the slightly cooler nights of September the inner restaurant is far too small for this very large hotel and the Matre'D has a pretty poor attitude and king sized chip on his shoulder which ruins what is otherwise... a first rate hotel.
Review 41:A great hotel in a great location with amazing se views and sunsets
Review 42:The pool was too cold!
Review 43:The hotel was a fantastic location, fabulous staff, was beautiful and had great facilities. I would stay there again in a heart beat
Review 44:The view was fabulous across whole bay islands beach and marina. Spectacular. Hotel was modern inside and staff were so helpful speaking many different languages. The price was brilliant value for money. We will be back!
Review 45:The price is a bit steep but still okay.
Review 46:Great view from the rooms and a nicely designed interior were the major plus points and the breakfast (until 11) was very good too.
Review 47:The restaurant staff was mostly super unfriendly, except for 1 or 2.Long, angry faces and not even a hello in the morning. It almost seemslike they are too bothered to be there. The food was great but when you(my cousin in this case) find a piece of plastic in your mashedpotatoes, its hard not to second guess every thing. Or as I laterlearned, the locals really don't seem to like tourists at all. Itdidn't matter if I spoke in Spanish or English, the locals were notevery friend. Except for 2 or 3 people we met who were directly involvedwith tourist, guides, bartenders. We hate tourist signs are everywhere. So don't expect a friendly welcome from everyone.A word of advice, A smile goes a long way......even if you don't mean it. FAKE IT.
Review 48:Modern and clean with an amazing view. The reception staff was superfriendly. Great location, walking distance to everything. Visit PraiaBeliche for sure.
Review 49:The cleaners started making a lot of noise at 9h30, cleaning the rooms around us, vacuuming, pushing beds etc we couldn't sleep.
Review 50:The location is fantastic with ocean views, the rooms and amenities are modern, there is a private parking etc The breakfast is very good with a great view. The hotel is central and walking distance from almost everything
Review 51:The pool area beds were quite limited, so get there early if your a pool person. The hotel beach is quite small and has no sunbeds, and is accesible via steps from the hotel - not recommended for the elderly. There are two other beaches within a 20min walk. Eating out is very much a lottery - if you want to dine away from the hotel, the nice restaraunts are few and far between, and you need to get there before 7.30pm. The main quisine is obviously varieties of fish dishes, but there are a few that do meat dishes too.
Review 52:The suite was really nice and the salf catering facilities were all that you needed (not that we used them that much). Cleanliness was top class, although at irregular times.
Review 53:Bathroom had mould and sink and bidet cracked. No tissues in bathroom. Towels looked so old and needed updating. Gym was very tired and unclean. Pool area tatty and needed updating. Outdoor chairs very tatty ...could sit on them .
Review 54:Room was comfy and minimalistic decorated and appealing. Nice inside areas. Wonderful location.
Review 55:There are not enough lounges and pool chairs to satisfy the occupancy, and to get some you need to be out there before 10am to place your towel down.
Review 56:The room was super comfortable and clean. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The restaurant had good options and wasn't very expensive.
Review 57:I got double room, with twin beds. my daughter and husband got my double bed. they didn't sleep so well. when we arrived they had the worst room in the hotel, as I booked three months before...I felt quite insulted...they were moved
Review 58:beautiful place and position...very quiet. lovely staff...attractive design...we will come back to all this comfort
Review 59:Buffet dinner was terrible. Restaurant was good but took one hour to start serving. Room service very limited to a few sandwiches so you are stuck with having to wait at the restaurant for an hour to take the platter to your own bedroom. Warning: don't go to restaurant in front of hotel (Batedor) which is a tourist trap. Much better options in the village.
Review 60:Massage was nice. Sagres is a beautiful southern Portuguses village.
Review 61:the beds were not comfortable and the breakfast was not good. The staff was decent but not very helpful and were rather sarcastic and lacked a customer service attitude. Instead their attitude was that we should have been honored to be staying there.
Review 62:The location and free wifi
Review 63:The design of the hotel is cool. the distance from the sea is close and the view is good. The breakfast was absolutely delicious. We arrived at Sagres because it was the only place with available place for the night. the town itself is nice but not a must destination is South West Portugal, although our dinner at Mar a Vista restaurant in town was one of the best we had.
Review 64:Terrible service in restaurant Line up for breakfast was like a cafeteria and adter 15 minutes we left Room and hallways looked like a student dorm - this is not design!!! Worst bed we slept in during 2 week holiday
Review 65:Location
Review 66:Very expensive for Portugal Room is ok, but nothing special for what youexpect due to the price
Review 67:Amazing location Nice breakfast and good restaurant Comfy and nicedecoration
Review 68:A bit pricey, but understandable why.
Review 69:The hotel has a fantastic location with amazing views of the sea. It is also beautifully designed and feels luxurious in every single space. The spaces are very generous so you barely sees the other guests (except at breakfast!). Staff were very nice and helpful.
Review 70:was very cold and windy, there is no green nature like in the picture
Review 71:recommend really to see sunset beside the lighthouse, nice hotel stuff, nice interior
Review 72:We were standing on our balcony and showered with sand and water brushed over from balcony above by a cleaner.
Review 73:Staff pleasant. Room comfortable. Lots of electric sockets. View over harbour good. We had a ground floor room. I imagine upper floors, the views excellent. The balcony small and not comfortable for sitting out on. We thought restaurant food good. you pay for the view. The local restaurants good as well. Swimming pool fine and temperature of water ok.
Review 74:Pool was freezing cold and a fight for loungers. Breakfast was noisy, need more space. Free bottled water would be nice. Needed info of when certain restaurants were closed as walked to a few on their closed days.
Review 75:Staff nice. Decor and bars and restauranr good. Cycle hire good. Room was fine. Spa not explained how to use and never anyone their to help. Had a massage but the lady didnt know i was booked in so waited alone for a while. Reception not communicating well with her. Nice massage though.
Review 76:Over used and not well maintained hotel. We were expecting a high end restort based on the website. Nearby beach is not nice so you must drive or walk to others. Not impressed at this price.
Review 77:Modern design
Review 78:Not the hotel's fault but as it's on the Coast was a little breezy at times. The outdoor pool was a bit cold & maybe smaller toddler friendly pool in the space they have would be a great addition
Review 79:Great child friendly stylish hotel with stunning view, great sized rooms (we had a 1 bedroom suite) and a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Memmo has a great style about it for all but with a 2 & 4 year old, the hotel was perfect with lots of green space to run around, an indoor & outdoor pool & a children's playroom. We ate in the restaurant a couple of nights & had great food, our children loved the pizza oven! Great VFM from cost of the stay, to the restaurant & drink prices. We will definitley return.
Review 80:You should be aware that this is not a quiet hotel. There are many young families. Especially at breakfast it can be extremely loud with crying, screaming, shouting children. If you don´t like jazz music then the lobby and restaurant area is also not a place to linger. The lobby was huge and had a lot of places to sit, but hardly no one did. In our case the reason was the jazz music. In the best case they played jazzy cover version of classic hits, in the worst case it was the kind of jazz where you wonder if there is any motif/melody to it. This kind of music just makes me aggressive. That is of course not the hotel´s fault, but it would be nice if they alternated the music and not play jazz every day and night. We didn´t say anything, though so that is on us. The staff in the restaurant and breakfast area are not unfriendly, but also not overly friendly. I got the feeling that they don´t work there because they love working in a restaurant. It´s just a job for them, not a "calling". Maybe if there were opportunities to leave tips for them they would make a bigger effort?! At breakfast they worked like hell, though because it was always so busy. Two times they tried to take my plate away although I hadn´t stopped eating the last of my bread.
Review 81:We had a room with sea view and good wifi reception in the room (best in the bathroom, though). The staff at reception was friendly and helpful. There are plenty of (surf and tourist) shops as well as restaurants nearby. If you want a restaurant where you don´t feel like a tourist go to Mum´s. Although they don´t offer the usual fresh fish/seafood. The rooms were nice and the breakfast buffet had a big variety of bread, fresh fruit, sweets. Not many different kinds of cheese, though (only 2).
Review 82:The pool is a bit on the small size with far to few sunbeds. Staff felt a bit overworked, not up to par compared to the rest of the hotel.
Review 83:Very nice hotel, a little pricey. Fantastic view overlooking the sea, private path to a little beach below. Great comfortable beds.
Review 84:Ants in out room, could see five in one moment smell of cleaning agent in corridors, dinner which we included in reservation was Ok, but nothing more, felt like cantin rather than restaurant.Improvements are needed to call it "four star hotel".
Review 85:Location, breakfast
Review 86:Restaurant staff poor, especially the manager who does not care about his guests; after 4 days breakfast feels rather repetitive; annoying noise from the ping pong table for rooms located near by - impossible to be in the room with open window
Review 87:Great location; after a recent lifting, a nice, new touch; small but cute balconies
Review 88:We had a room on the top floor of the hotel overlooking the sea and the busy fishing port below. The room was large, the beds extremely comfortable with good quality bed linen….mmm! bliss. Breakfast provided a substantial selection of fare to suit most tastes. Loved the interior décor, especially in the public areas which are very comfortable and the corporate colour schemes are very pleasing and relaxing. Staff were friendly and polite.
Review 89:Great sea view from the room and from the terrace. Beach in walking distance. Privat parking. After check out, all hotel services stay accessible for the whole day. Breakfast is really nice.
Review 90:We loved the breakfast: good food and great variety, with a fantastic light in a room overlooking garden and ocean. The restaurant, too, was good and neatly designed and furnished. we were travelling with a 9 months old baby and had no problem at all. The inner pool is just perfect, for babies, too, and you can have it for yourself if you book it at the reception desk. The play room is full with toys and some books, go and look for it if you are travelling with children. Staff was very nice and helpful.
Review 91:This is one of the most secluded and beautiful spots on earth. The resort makes your stay one of the most relaxing. It's one of the best included breakfasts in Portugal. Highly recommend.
Review 92:Wifi was not good
Review 93:Easy to find hotel with first class views over the harbour and coastline. Friendly and efficient welcome too. We had a room with parcial sea view which was comfortable, well appointed and good value. The nearby Martinhal beach is a grand place to sunbathe and eat.
Review 94:The breakfast room was pretty crowded and the staff seemed overworked, but the food was very good.
Review 95:We really liked the location/view/our rooms.
Review 96:Lots of ikea equipment, offering spa on webpage which needs to be bookedand was occupied during full stay, very small indoor pool
Review 97:New facility at great and quite location, nice modern clear design, breathtaking view although caused by nice glas front ocean facing
Review 98:very soft bed not confortable non existing spa (cold pool, not warm enough sauna, non working steam bath)
Review 99:nice design hotel beautiful position great breakfast
Review 100:Loved staying at this hotel. Great views, attractive minimalist decor, friendly staff, comfortable beds. We stayed out of season so it wasn't full and therefore nice and quiet!
Review 101:Internet Wi-Fi was no accessible in the rooms, only closer to the reception. But since this was a leisure trip, this did not really disturb.
Review 102:Excellent location Free and spacious parking space Great view! Friendly staff Excellent breakfast
Review 103:There was absolutely no place to put a wet beach towel or a swim suit :(
Review 104:We had a room with a sea view and were able to enjoy a sunrise from the ocean, an unforgettable experience! Great breakfast, and the bed was extremely comfortable
Review 105:The bed was very poor The staff from excellent to very poor Wifi only in common areas, where service (staff) was very poor
Review 106:The location itself Sea view from our room Surrounding Activities and nature near by Architecture
Review 107:We stayed at Memmo for five nights on our Honeymoon. It was our favourite spot in Portugal. Great location, loved our hotel room, felt spoiled by the staff - we will for sure be back.
Review 108:Unfortunately some of the external areas were often rendered 'no go zones' for us non smokers, by a minority of guests smoking. A pity, as the air in this area is so clean and relatively un-polluted. Difficult to see what the hotel could do about that without losing custom. Anyone with young children/toddlers would need to keep a tight rein on them as there are some potentially dangerous unguarded drops around the site.
Review 109:Great views, well kept grounds, excellent breakfast selection to cater for most if not all, including lovely fresh fruit & very drinkable coffee! Very clean generally and rooms well serviced. Overall very good value.
Review 110:Other meals slightly expensive. Buffet dinner in particular had to be taken in an interior room. Main gripe - poor internet access with wifi only in lobby and very slow even there.
Review 111:Lovely setting and the sea view from our room was amazing. Staff very friendly and helpful, room compact but adequate and well furnished. Facilities good, pools and gym, garden etc. Breakfast excellent.
Review 112:The hotel staff could not have been more accommodating and the location, outlook (sea view room) and facilities were perfect and as expected for a 4-star hotel.
Review 113:For a 4* hotel you would expect a higher level of comfort and facilities. Breakfast was not that good and sunbeds were broken at the swimming pool.
Review 114:The rooms are good and seaview is fantastic!
Review 115:Dining room too small , had to stand in line for breakfast table and dinner a free for all scramble with families and young children at buffet whatever time you go - not nearly as good food or value as local restraunts - lets the hotel down.
Review 116:Excellent service and atmosphere , large hotel but very well organised so that you get a feeling of personal service.
Review 117:Finding someone else's toenail clippings on the balcony chair and floor. The bathroom and bedroom were not clean. Staff unfriendly and disinterested.
Review 118:Cleaning could be deeper but not a Big issue on holidays :-)
Review 119:Wonderful place with great view on the ocean Very quiet and walking distance from beaches and restaurant Design hotel
Review 120:Not very cleaned, either the room or the stairs. Spa needs to beimproved and renewed . Wifi in rooms is a must for that price !
Review 121:The position and the design
Review 122:- No wi-fi in rooms, only public areas; - Poor sound isolation in rooms, we can hear other rooms' conversations clearly; - room was small and far from 'designed' (IKEA furniture), not a single photo or painting; - Outside pool insufficiently isolated from wind (a constant in Sagres); - Breakfast poor in lots of ways: poor variety; room not large enough for high season; poorly designed breakfast hall; no expresso in breakfast room (one has to go to the upper floor to a self-service machine); - No indoor parking;
Review 123:- Location; - Fantastic sea view; - Attentive, friendly staff;
Review 124:poor wi fi coverage had to sit in main areas to access it people reserving sun loungers by the pool, then seen leaving the area for several hours
Review 125:artistic touches location good breakfast
Review 126:Considering the prices and the level of the hotel, it's not acceptable it doesn't offer wi-fi connection in the room.
Review 127:The hotel is situated in a very nice context; it's on the sea and offers a panoramic view on the ocean. The hotel is very elegant, but at the same time is sober. It's also very clean and the breakfast is complete and various.
Review 128:The restaurant closes too early (22:00) and the snacks in the bar/lounge are expensive and too small (avoid mini-pizza)
Review 129:Very good location, many extra activities, Sea view is fabulous
Review 130:Now this is being very picky of me. The gym was tiny and did not open until 8 am and then there was a line up to use the equipment. However, we went for a long hike instead.q
Review 131:Everything, perfect place to stay in Sagres which is just like Greek island towns in the 70's before they became commercialized.
Review 132:The hotel restaurant is not as good as its reputation and too expensive compared with mediocer quality
Review 133:Athmosphere, facilities and location is great! Follow staffs recomondations for restaurants around town and beaches to visit!
Review 134:- This is more a family hotel with lots of families with kids, so don't expect quiet afternoons at the pool. - Some brits took over the pool and brought their own music, staff did not do anything about this. - No wifi in the rooms! For a 4-star hotel this is not acceptable these days. There is only wifi in the (crowded) lobby and it works very slow (if working at all). - Mountainbikes have to be rented. They're not good enough to spent a whole day cycling on them
Review 135:- Clean modern rooms with fresh minimalistic design. - Good location in Sagres with nice view over the Atlantic. - Good restaurants in walking distance. - Very friendly, welcoming staff. Any questions could be asked. - Good breakfast. Breakfast room can get crowded though. - Large parking area with enough available spaces to park your car.
