Reviews for Hotel Milan Speranza Au Lac

Review 1:rooms noisy given proximite to street. wifi free but signal weak nd intermittent

Review 2:very polite staff, silver service breakfast throwback to a bygone era. close to everything in Stressa

Review 3:Beds were not soft, but typical. Hot chocolate out if a package?!

Review 4:Hotel is perfectly located in downtown across from boat/ferry docks. This hotel has the look of an grand hotel, with top service! Included breakfasts were first rate. Would definitely stay here again!

Review 5:Balconies very small....only two person.

Review 6:Location perfect for walking the lakeside, meandering the pedestrianshopping/dining streets just behind hotel, or grabbing publictransportation (boat/tourist train/bus) to any of the manyattractions. Love the bells bringing in the morning and on and off allday. Go higher than the third floor to get over the tree line for aneven better view. Wonderful breakfast and service. Reception staffenjoyed offering help and information. Train to Milan takes only 1 hourif you want to go for a day trip. Less than an hour from Malpensa fromwhich there is a bus door to door.

Review 7:No bad experience, but I would prefer a keycard to a key which you either have to carry around with you or leave at reception.

Review 8:The hotel has a great position on the lakefront, okay its a bit olde-worlde, but its meant to be. The rooms and comfortable and we had a balcony (small) with a great view of the lake. Breakfast was good.

Review 9:The staff appeared competent in several languages, but seemed generally tired and not very happy--perhaps end to a long season.

Review 10:Location is nice and the breakfast is generous.

Review 11:Parking was a few streets away in neighboring hotel - a bit of a nuisance. Also, the hotel comprises of two separate wings that share facilities. The economy rooms are in a separate building and have a separate dining room.

Review 12:Excellent location and friendly staff. We were in the heart of the city, surrounded by plenty of restaurants and right next to the ferries to the Borromean islands.

Review 13:The staff was wonderful, they were very helpful in setting up car to airport and even provided us with a box breakfast as we were leaving prior to restaurant opening.

Review 14:No heating!! For some of us end of Sept requires for a bit of heat during nights... Poor shower-have to do ur hair for no spiral to allow for a quick shower only!!

Review 15:Location is no.1 of its assets. Cleaniness and fairness of breakfast come next...

Review 16:The air conditioning didn´t work but we were all right because it wasn´t terribly hot.

Review 17:The room was vey nice with a lovely view over the river. And the staff was very helpful and polite. We enjoyed breakfast a lot. !

Review 18:I found the bedding was cold, we are used to quilts (thin in summer) but the blankets didn't warm up. I do realise it was very cool at night being September

Review 19:The hotel was very central for everything. Staff were very friendly

Review 20:i didn't like the bedspread and the carpeted floor. Why not just a basic white douvet that I know has been washed and a wood or tile floor so I know it is clean

Review 21:Location. I was alone on weekend trip so it was perfect location

Review 22:Beware if you pay extra for a balcony. We did after seeing the picture of the balcony on the website showing places to sit. Ours was a French balcony--nice view but couldn't use it. It cost an extra 40 euros--expensive for a nicer view. The staff was not helpful about it--only offering to move us "right now" when we were already showering for dinner. Good lesson: let them know immediately if it isn't what you expected. Room was clean, though tired looking. Pillows were totally flat.

Review 23:great location right on Lake Maggiore. Hotel has free, secure parking. Breakfast was wonderful with very nice, attentive waitresses and waiters.

Review 24:Beds were a little uncomfortable. Would be better with a double mattress not 2 put together

Review 25:Staff excellent food excellent. Very helpful. Certainly recommend to anyone.

Review 26:Not applicable.

Review 27:Location of the hotel was excellent with good access to boats, buses, taxis and trains. It was very close to the shops and restaurants on the lakeside promenade. The staff were very friendly, attentive, smart and efficient. The room was comfortable, clean and well equipped with a spacious bathroom and excellent shower. A very good hotel which I would recommend.

Review 28:Location is terrific close to everything ! Reception staff very helpful and informative ! Breakfast in the veranda restaurant is a great way to start the day !

Review 29:If being picky, there were some cobwebs on the ceiling, but mainly clean.

Review 30:View and balcony in room 546 were wonderful. The position right near the lake was perfect. Also close to ferries, and the bus to Malpensa stops right outside.

Review 31:This is a lovely hotel. You can't beat the location. It is lakefront with stunning views and is nestled right in the middle of Stresa. The ferry is located just across the street. It is very charming as well as historical. The staff was friendly and accommodating! We had a room for 3 people on floor 5 with lake view. The views from the balcony and even while laying in the bed were breathtaking! They provided us with free parking. We did not need our car once during our 3 day stay. Our room came with a complimentary breakfast every morning. It consisted of cereal, breads, pastries, eggs, meats, cheeses, fruits, yogurts, jellies, juices, coffees to include cappuccinos /espresso, and tea. All was very fresh and tasty. We were very pleased with all aspects of our stay and will be recommending it to our friends and family.

Review 32:Just a cleaner room with less dust

Review 33:Excellent location, staff extremely helpful & friendly. However cleanliness of our room could have been a lot better - mirrors dusty & floor could have been cleaned more often

Review 34:A breakfast waiter seemed to have thought I was an interloper in from the street chancing my arm for a free breakfast and was quite rude, even after asking for my room number and checking it all in front of other guests I still was ignored and had to repeatedly ask for coffee and juice (which are delivered by the staff to your table else I would have got them myself)

Review 35:Reception Staff were very good

Review 36:Read above

Review 37:For the price, this hotel provided surprisingly little in the room itself. The staff were very nice and helpful. The view from level 6 is breathtaking and we enjoyed sitting on our terrace overlooking the lake. Fantastic! This made up for the complete basic ness of our room. For over $260 + a night no fridge, very little comforts in the room, and the AC ended up being turned off without our knowledge after it started leaking water.

Review 38:Staff were okay, but not really willing to help much. No fridge in the room and a little bit noisy because it's in front of the main parking on the main street.

Review 39:Excellent location. Very good view and spacious room.

Review 40:We love this hotel. Everything was perfect, from the lake view to the swimming pool at the nearby hotel to the excellent service, we loved it all. The perfect location as well.

Review 41:You have to pay extra for facility like ironing, no iron in the room. TV only in Swiss & Italian, French. Only 1 Chanel (BBC) in English.

Review 42:Friendly staff, very clean room & bathroom. Free wifi.! Beautiful view, defiantly worth paying extra for lake view.!

Review 43:The only possible things to improve upon would be the wifi - the signal is patchy and slow speed (a real first world problem!!) and there was at times a weak supply of cold water. A steaming hot shower is fine in the winter but when you've been out in blazing sunshine at 33 degrees a cooler shower would be nicer!! Both very minor and I would certainly recommend going to stay there again.

Review 44:Lovely location with very friendly and attentive staff. The hotel was extremely clean and well kept and cannot be faulted.

Review 45:We had lake view rooms and they were simply stunning!! The room and bathroom were very, very good, but the view was to die for! The staff were attentive, polite and very good at their jobs.

Review 46:Reception staff is like bored on her job or she had a bad day and doesn't want to talk. The room is ok and adequate for a night. Breakfast was ok, room was nice atmosphere but the staffs were too busy until it feel like a cheap place.

Review 47:Great location.

Review 48:had twin beds instead of a double, room a bit old, bed sheets and blankets as well, shower did not work properly

Review 49:excellent breakfast, free parking and access to swimming pool in nearby location, excellent location near the lake

Review 50:Having a room at the front of the hotel to overlook the lake and mtns was fantasic. We especially liked having the balcony off our room so we could enjoy being outside. Also, we had to catch a 6:20 am train on the day we checked out. They arranged to have a breakfast to go for me. I really appreciated their going the extra mile.

Review 51:It is a pity the rooms do not have a fridge to keep drinks cool, but otherwise the hotel was perfect.

Review 52:An excellent location right on the lakeside, very handy for the shops, ferries and buses. We had rooms with a lake view and these were definitely worth paying the extra for. The staff were very helpful and friendly throughout our stay.

Review 53:Fantastic location in beautiful Stresa, worth paying extra for a lake view room and waking up to the incredible sunrise behind the mountains with the waters of Lake Maggiore shimmering with early daylight.

Review 54:Slightly smelly sewerage system. A bit noisy from the passing traffic Stresa railway station not helpful for disabled persons. Many steps, no help getting from one platform to another. Unhelpful staff

Review 55:Pleasant helpful staff. Free Wi Fi. Beautiful view from front room to Lake and Islands..Nice Carillon nearby, but only plays by day

Review 56:Breakfast could have a little more variety. Not very keen on a shower over the bath but these are real minor issues.

Review 57:Staff very friendly. Excellent location. Lovely views from rooms if facing the lake. Air conditioning for hot evenings. Request for 4 pillows on our bed met for the 1st time as at previous hotels I put it on my booking request but it was never done. Can highly recommend this hotel.

Review 58:Andrea, Francesco and the staff were so very helpful and pleasant. We received the best service and really had a great experience. The guests were international, which was a plus for us.

Review 59:Mosquitos are a problem in July/Aug after 9pm but manageable as long as you pack the spray! I would recommend providing a bus transfer from the hotel or in conjunction with other hotels.

Review 60:The location is perfect, right beside Lake, Restaurants, Ferry, Bus, Market, Plaza, and shops and so very quiet. Everyone works as a team and the guest is priority. Lots to see and do in Strasa but also lots of spectacular trips which allow you enjoy Lake Maggiore, the Islands and Gardens and nearby Orto to their full potential.

Review 61:We were given a really uncomfortable room, with the sign lighting directly inside. It turned out, the A/C was broken there and we had to move in the middle of the night.

Review 62:Nice location. Nice breakfast. Nice personnel.

Review 63:I would have liked a small mini bar and a place to get ice easily.

Review 64:Our very large room was like a suite. It was comfortable, a huge bathroom with gorgeous tiles on all of the walls with a long tub and great shower, luxurious towels. We loved our view from Romm 411. The flowers were beautiful and it was perfect for sipping wine. The breakfast buffet, included in our room price, was huge and delicious. If we could afford it again, we would stay there. It's a perfect location to catch the boats and you step out the door, to reach the pedestrian street.

Review 65:The bathrooms were cleaned but the carpet was not vacuumed during our stay. The internet kept having problems.

Review 66:The bed was really comfortable and the view was great. The staff on teh front desk were excellent. The breakfast was excellent.

Review 67:If I stayed again I would ask for a room on the front, these are bigger all round and overlook the lake and the ferries.

Review 68:The best thing about this hotel is its proximity to the port and pedestrian area of Stresa, just across the road and around the corner. The room was quite small and the balcony very small and the shower very very small.

Review 69:Charging for cooked eggs at breakfast these should be available to all.

Review 70:Good room with excellent views of the Lake. All staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 71:Impossible to have a bad experience in this hotel - that is why I have been going there so often during the past twenty-five years.

Review 72:Have stayed there frequently and was therefore upgraded to a double room and discounted the evening meal price. They arranged a taxi to collect me from the station. I was greeted like family! The food was superb!

Review 73:The breakfast was disappointing, poor selection, eg. tinned fruit, no hot food, had to request croissants, apart from that just rolls..

Review 74:Location, room very nice with comfortable bed and balcony with a wonderful view of Lake Maggiore. Very friendly and efficient staff.

Review 75:Three negatives: Firstly, they tried to give us a room different to what was advertised on their website. Not only was it clearly smaller than the square meters advertised, the drab decor and furnishings were clearly different to the booking.com photos. Whilst we contemplated what had gone wrong and looked up our booking.com booking photos, we could also hear the lady next door on the phone and the toilet flush through the paper thin walls. That was the last straw. My wife complained and we immediately given the room we saw on booking.com. The service person claimed that they can't show all their triple rooms on the booking.com site. As heavy users of the booking.com services we found this argument hard to believe. This was the first time we've had to take this kind of action. First time ever! I would expect that the hotel supplier put photos of the available rooms side by side in their room offer so people can see what they might get. Secondly, they advertised airconditioning under room facilities, but don't specify in their important conditions that this is "during summer months". We had to request it be turned on. But the next night it was turned off. Thirdly, as the rooms face the main road along the lake, you get the noise of cars, motorbikes and people at night if your double glazed windows are open at all. Especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Hence the need for airconditioning and closed windows for noise control.

Review 76:Proximity to water, views, quality and spacious room (see didn't like section). The replacement room also had a spacious bathroom with excellent water pressure shower.

Review 77:The Milan Speranza au Lac is actually two hotels, side-by-side on the Stresa waterfront. We checked in at the Milan and were advised that our room was in Speranza. The two properties are separated by a small street that leads into the mostly pedestrian town. Our room was on the fifth floor facing the lake. The rooms below ours have standard balconies, but the rooms on the fifth floor have large protected balconies. On our arrival there was an intense thunderstorm which we were able to view from our dry and safe seating area. The room itself was relatively large with a good size bathroom. Our breakfast was served in the Milan where we were greeted daily by very attentive staff in multiple languages. Directly across the street from the hotel was the ferry terminal. The hotels are in a perfect location for transportation, restaurants and shopping.

Review 78:We loved everything. Beautiful room, hotel, and balcony overlooking the lake. Lovely bathroom, crystal chandelier in room and it looked like Murano chandeliers in lobby. Excellent food at breakfast and dinner. The staff was amazing. It's right across from the boat dock but quiet.

Review 79:Choice of breakfast buffet No toiletteries No bar Poor internet connection TV not working

Review 80:Friendly staff speaking multiple languages Location Size of the room

Review 81:we did not like the limited time of breakfast from 7 am to 9:30 am. Because of groups of tourists who left the hotel early for tours, other guests had to leave the restaurant at 9:30, the stuff was already waiting impatiently.

Review 82:we liked the location, the stuff, cleanness

Review 83:Room was very cold, heating didn't work. The furnishings and decorations were kitschy and very poor for a 4 star hotel. It is close to the peer and it was very noisy, the glass was thin and you could hear everything outside. Internet connection was down during the whole time we were there. Do not recommend.

Review 84:The staff was nice and friendly, spoke excellent English.

Review 85:The balcony in our room was a little smaller than I had imagined, but it was ok.

Review 86:The staff was very personable and helpful. The restaurant staff treated us like we were family. The meals were excellent!

Review 87:The rooms were quite small TV was tiny A/C didn't seem to work but quite noisy from street if opened the window. Reception service was average. Noise from adjoining rooms. Quite expensive. Breakfast was ok. We prefer a more personal hotel not these big hotels where you and your experience is pretty irrelevant. They gets lots of tour coaches stopping here.

Review 88:Location

Review 89:We did not think that the balcony was very secure. It could be easily accessed from adjacent rooms. Something was missing from the door lock. We spotted it, the maid did not.

Review 90:Bed was uncomfortable, no safty box, small belacony, small breakfast,

Review 91:I think its location, but its a small city evry hotel on the beach it will has a good location. And the staf were good and helpful.

Review 92:False economies by hotel - they have a long season & high prices - these false economies should not be necessary: 1) no coffee/tea/fridge facilities in rooms, so bring it with you! 2) poor beds - 4in mattresses on hardboard base, throughout hotel - I expected sprung beds in a 4* hotel! Expect poor sleep quality if you don't like hard beds. 3) Poor quality, 'catering pack' ingredients in restaurant's main dishes - not freshly cooked either - mass catering, but at a la carte prices. Remedy: eat out at the many restaurants within 100 yards of the hotel door incl. the trip advisor recommended ones.

Review 93:Absolutely perfect location for everything - boats, restaurants, town, evening strolls by the lake - just outside the door. Nice, clean room, tasteful furnishings. Lovely lake view. Pleasant staff and well maintained hotel. Brill swimming pool and surrounding garden pre-arranged with nearby hotel.

Review 94:Nothing...absolutely nothing!

Review 95:Everything from the porter, reception staff, dining room service and quality of breakfast, not to mention the fantastic location.

Review 96:Dated elegance, but it didn't spoil the experience in fact it added to it as it was quaint.

Review 97:Convenience to ferry terminal. Fabulous view. Windows if open you could hear all the sounds including the bells but once shut, nothing. Very quiet.

Review 98:- Furniture and decoration - a little bit obsolete - Long distance to the private parking

Review 99:- Location of the hotel - Excellent breakfast - Customer service

Review 100:Nothing

Review 101:Great Location. Small room with lake view and a small balcony, just large enough for a table and 2 chairs for us to have breakfast or a night cap al fresco, admiring the view. Very reasonable price.

Review 102:Only one pillow (bit hard) carpet was grubby and stained in places.the room could do with sprucing up as it looked like it was decorated a very long time ago. (Saw maid outside she gave my husband an extra pillow)

Review 103:Hotel wise it was a pleasant convenient hotel in an excellent location. We had a small balcony at the front which was pretty. Good wardrobe facilities. Small pleasant bar area for drinks or coffee /tea. Overall we were happy could have been a bit cheaper but it was August.

Review 104:Pool and Parking are located in the Regina Palace hotel nearby. Not a convenient arrangement. One of the reception staff was not welcoming nor helpful. Fortunately the shift manager was very nice and understanding.

Review 105:We had a lake view room which had a fabulous panoramic lake view. Located in the main street which can be crowded but us one of the best locations in Stresa especially if you like to have a lake view. Good breakfast, good service and good variety.

Review 106:No bell services Superior room with just lake view but not isles view. Very poor toiletry No minibar Poor bathrobe Breakfast with canned fruits

Review 107:Silence. Superior room with window in the toilet

Review 108:Found it a bit pricy compared to other places I have stayed at if I compare price and quality.

Review 109:Location is pure magic - next to the city and the lake. My single room was tired and a worn down from age. Wifi worked okay and parking was close to the hotel.

Review 110:Shower temperature regulation not good (too hot and too cold, constantly changing during the shower) Parking for check in not really available (hit or miss) Darkening curtains missing on the turret window area (not a big deal) No secure luggage storage on checkout. Air conditioning did not work. Fortunately, it was not too hot during our two night stay

Review 111:Room 534 - view of lake was fantastic Breakfast delicious Location fantastic. Walking to downtown is instant. Immediate access to ferries to Isola Bella. Lots of nice walking places. Nice decor in room - classic. Small balcony to looking at the lake (no table or chairs - just standing, but can go outside. Lots of great restaurants and shops nearby. Staff was very friendly, both at the front desk and at breakfast

Review 112:Typical of an older hotel with rooms which were not too big but still had lots of character

Review 113:The office staff were brilliant in seeing to all my requests. The room, 546, was one of the best views I have ever had. The food in the a la carte menu was superb.....and best of all.......EVERYONE SMILED !!

Review 114:Smelly bathroom, bit noisy (boats leave from just across the street).

Review 115:Friendly, helpful staff. Great view from the lake view rooms. Plentiful breakfast. Central location.

Review 116:The hotel refused to give us an iron for safety reasons, but let us use theirs in the service room. We could not use ours because all power sockets were too small, an old model.

Review 117:Large room, comfortable bed, widi in the room Ok (but not in the childreńs room, there was no signal), tasty breakfast, good position at the lake.

Review 118:Breakfast was basic (as it always is in italy), no hot food, every time the toilet flushed in another room we could hear the plumbing through the wall, no ironing boards or irons in the room so had to pay for the laundry service

Review 119:No fridge in the room. Breakfast was lacking variety and warm choices..i.e. toasted bread or scrambled eggs. The double bed was two single mattresses pushed together. Walls were thin and throughout the night you can hear running water.

Review 120:The location was directly across from the ferry. Secure free parking close by. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Review 121:Even though air-conditioning worked well, it has a habit of shut down (fuse cut off), when used many hours. But reception could re-boot it, and all was fine again.

Review 122:Amazing location! We had lake-view room and balcony at the 4th floor of Hotel Milan: it was worth every euro! Hotel was in the middle of everything, restaurants, shops, Friday market, boats to islands. We visited all three islands, and highly recommend it. Free parking at the garage nearby was very convenient. Helpful and friendly staff.

Review 123:small room, small elevator. Old and noisy air conditioner,Soft mattress and uncomfortable, no Parking at the hotel;Narrow bathroom door and barely moving,no bell boy,6 euro surcharge for omlet,no refrigerator in the room. only 2 italien chanels on tv.bad and slow wi fi ,Definitely not suitable for 4 stars

Review 124:only the location

Review 125:Fabulous location across the road from the lake , close to ferry wharf and shopping precinct and piazza . Lots of open air restaurants within 3mins walk

Review 126:The shower it nearly scalded me no ability to moderate temperature either cold or scalding

Review 127:great location great breakfast good clean room friendly staff

Review 128:A mini-bar would have been nice, not so much for the booze as for the access to a small fridge in the room. Also, as others have pointed out, the shower does drive you crazy with the change in temperature. A minor issue for most, but it wouldn't hurt to try and fix this.

Review 129:The location was fantastic, although Stresa is a pretty small town. The room was spacious and clean with an old classy vibe, and our room had a great view of the town. The staff were helpful and multi-lingual. The breakfast was alright, nothing too interesting but nice as an included service.

Review 130:Accommodated in Room 511 in Speranza we were subjected to the very regular noisy clunking of the lifts from early morning until late at night. Mention to the staff brought no urgency of concern.

Review 131:Excellent helpful staff and quality dining in the restaurant. Location and accommodation also a great plus. Lovely week's holiday.

Review 132:The shower.. One minute it's just right, then it's either boiling hot or icy cold. And I'm not sure what the second shower head was for, too messy. Plus I didn't like being separated from the 'group' guests when it was breakfast time.

Review 133:How close the hotel was from the ferry and having the piazzas just a walk away was brilliant. Staff were very helpful.

Review 134:One of the best locations Stresa, facing the lake Maggiore, where boats leave to visit Isola Bella. Good Money to stay.

Review 135:Great stuff - smiling and friendly. Great restaurant - Excellent breakfast and great dinner (only 30 euros)!!!!

The Fine Print

Please note that the free outdoor pool is at the Hotel Regina Palace, 500 feet away.
