Reviews for Eye Hotel

Review 1:Tall people will bump their heads at least once in the rooms on the top floor.

Review 2:Beautiful rooms. Good beds. Excellent location, and a beautiful breakfast room. Breakfast itself was OK.

Review 3:The hotel is perfectly located in the center, yet reasonably quiet because of decent soundproofing. The rooms (or at least the room I had) were amazing in terms of taking an old building and giving a very modern and comfortable design. Great facilities too like lots of electrical plugs, good internet and a Nespresso machine in the room!! I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay there any time I need to overnight in Utrecht.

Review 4:The hotel is amazing, I really enjoyed the design of rooms and the hotel itself. The staff is very welcoming and pleasant. The location is very good as well. Definitely recommend to everyone.

Review 5:very thin walls between rooms (at least on upper 3rd floor) thus very noisy depending on your neighbors. super stylish rooms but lacking a bit in comfort (e.g. no real bathroom instead everything kind of integrated in the room). extremely soft bed (almost like a waterbed). no international TV channels. some of the above wouldn't really matter but are expected at the relatively high price level of the hotel.

Review 6:Perfect location near city center with plenty of restaurants and cafes just nearby the hotel. everything in walking distance. nice old building beautifully designed and well equipped. cosy little breakfast room with good breakfast (no buffet serving bread croissant egg cereals joghurt fresh juice, but some fruits and fresh stuff like salad tomatoes were missing). friendly staff. nice view over Utrecht from upper floor.

Review 7:only downside = sleeping comfort because the mattress is way too soft and the pillow gigantic

Review 8:Spacious rooms, beautifully furnished and decorated, love for details, excellent location near the city center

Review 9:Very classy hotel with wonderful decor in a perfect location. The breakfast was yummy too! We stayed in the family room which was really comfortable, great for our family of four.

Review 10:Room was a bit cold but it was November and the bed was oh so warm and cozy I didn't care. Slept very well.

Review 11:Great location. Friendly and helpful staff. Bed was really comfortable and the room was very stylish. Fast internet.

Review 12:Leaving

Review 13:Staff were fantastic!!! In particular the lovely receptionist who gave me directions to their sister hotel to print tickets. Beds amazing. Showers fantastic !

Review 14:This hotel is stunning. The hospitality, the decor, the comfort- they truly build a fantastic experience. The room is a hipster dream with wonderful lighting, comfortable beds, heavy comforters, and a great bathroom.

Review 15:I was told that I had a quiet room - the noise was awful - I stayed for two nights both nights the noise was bad - I could not sleep. The room was clean but the pillows were not pillows but cushions - this did not help with comfort of the room.

Review 16:the style of the room

Review 17:Nothing.

Review 18:Quirky room shape, but all mod cons, friendly staff and excellent location. Quiet side street. Arrived early, the staff looked after my suitcase and took it up to my room ready for my return. Stargazing from the loo or shower through the glass roof.

Review 19:Very soft mattress and hard pillows, Hotel parking in 10 minutes walking distance, Expensive car park (25 € p.n.)

Review 20:Nice and individual decoration, very friendly staff, good breakfast

Review 21:Counter staff advised the room on the third floor when I wanted one on ground floor because I had heavy luggage, he told me they have a lift but apparently the lift only goes to the second floor so I still had to climb a steep and worn staircase with heavy luggage. When I first arrived the counter staff said I could get complimentary drinks from the fridge at the counter, only to find expenses on my bill when I checked out.

Review 22:Clean Location not bad

Review 23:The cleaness of the room was not acceptable. Found an - unused - pair of socks on the TV stand, which did also not disappear after we complained about the cleaness of the room.

Review 24:Excellent, quiet location and very helpfull staff..

Review 25:Not a fantastic view at the back but can't exactly complain based on the price paid.

Review 26:Location was absolutely terrific and the decor was really lovely. Also it had a great little coffee machine!

Review 27:Banged my head getting out of the bathroom because the door was unusually small -- and had to be very careful for the rest of the stay...

Review 28:Nice bed, good shower, very helpful staff.

Review 29:Rooms are small and poorly ventilated with little natural light. The breakfast is far too expensive for what you get, especially when you are not asked how you would like your boiled egg cooked.

Review 30:Very clean, bright rooms, staff helpful.

Review 31:Cold dining room, hotel offers bike rental but there is no bike or bike seat suitable for children

Review 32:Good accommodation option when visiting Amsterdam, stylish interior and helpful staff for much lower price than in Amsterdam

Review 33:From our room, we could hear the loud closing of the door to the stairs. This incident occurred several times during the night.

Review 34:charming building, comfortable bed, friendly and helpful staff

Review 35:Warm welcome with a personal "Happy birthday" card in the room as I had told that we are going to celebrate my husband's birthday in Utrecht. All requests fulfilled. Good bed. Nice room. Beakfast was fine. Parking space at a fair rate available.

Review 36:No lift access to level 3 and difficult stair to carry luggage up and down.

Review 37:Very pretty room on top level. Very friendly and helpful staff. Interesting location close to variety of restaurants.

Review 38:very soft matrasses; a bit odd to have the open bathroom / toilet located openly next to the bed. parking also not easy - but hey that's because of the excellent location once one is checked in!

Review 39:location !! friendly and passionate staff !

Review 40:Room was very noisy as there was construction going on outside our window and the workers began their work at 7am. No complimentary slippers or gowns. The map to the location of the paid parking was very confusing and very difficult to locate even using the Garmin. Breakfast expensive.

Review 41:Clean, modern, quirky

Review 42:The EYE hotel is a very comfortable, wonderfully located hotel. The staff are nice and helpful, the rooms large, comfortable, very clean and incredibly quiet for being in the middle of the center! I would stay again here, no doubt

Review 43:While it was good, the breakfast never changed. When you stay for an extended time (I was there for 5 nights), I would like a little more variety.

Review 44:The staff was very helpful and friendly. The hotel itself had a nice funky feel to it -- unique.

Review 45:no paper handkerchiefs, no shower cap, no extra blanket, too small round table for breakfast, a lot of noise in the corridor ( we even checked if our door was closed properly), bill was not correct

Review 46:location in the centre of the town

Review 47:Beautiful hotel in a fantastic location close to the city centre. Very spacious room with modern and tasteful furnishings and a comfortable bed. Free wifi and a coffee machine in my room were welcome. A great stay!

Review 48:Minor complaint: As a business traveller working in the evening, I found the table too small. It was just big enough to fit my laptop and not much else. No bath (only a shower) in my room. Good shower, though !

Review 49:Stylish, nice rooms. Friendly staff. Breakfast basic but good. Fast Wifi.

Review 50:The room was a little bit cold maybe the heating was not working as well in my room.

Review 51:The staff is very professional and helpful. All of them!!!! Great team! The room is big and beautiful with a comfortable bed and a lovely shower!

Review 52:There was a good bit of noise and music at late hours of the night coming up from the Opium Restaurant/Club.

Review 53:The Staff as a whole were very friendly and helpful; Kim was particularly delightful. The room was spotless and comfortable.

Review 54:No sound isolation whatsoever-impossible to sleep when someone else is still awake, shower leak floods the whole bathroom and toilet. Separate beds spreading apart, no fresh air in the room (!!!) window leads to the hotel's atrium - AC does not help. Small towels. Really nice hotel, but better take the top floor with windows to the street or garden if possible.

Review 55:Location, Superb design, very kind and helpful staff, hi speed wifi, decent breakfast, soft beds and comfy pillows.

Review 56:No soundproofing. My room was joined to someone else's room via locked door and I could hear everything.

Review 57:Great location, in a quiet, but central part of Utrecht. Loved the quirky room decor. Nice staff, especially the guy doing the night shift.

Review 58:Only minor complaints were 1) bath towels too small 2) no free hotel car park there was a car park which was away from hotel

Review 59:Pleasant & friendly staff. Clean rooms

Review 60:No hotel bar, a new hotel with some areas to work on. No do not disturb sign.

Review 61:Friendly staff, nice hotel, good location. Allowed us to check in early which was a bonus.

Review 62:The stairs and elevator are very tiny so if you're a family, it'll be pretty hard to get upstairs. Also, I wasn't informed that you needed to insert the room card in a specific holder near the door for the electricity to work in the room so I was panicking, trying to charge my dying phone.

Review 63:The rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast is amazing!

Review 64:It's called the Eye hotel because it is a converted Eye hospital and there are loads of interesting old photos and quirky equipment scattered around the place. The staff were great and it gave us a fantastic base to explore Utrecht. The Dom tower is 10 minutes walk away and the local restaurants and bars are super lively. The hotel itself is built from solid materials and we had a silent good nights sleep. On Saturday morning there was a market right outside the front door. A great place to stay.

Review 65:The only problem was the sound isolation of the rooms. Sometimes you could hear guests in the next room watching TV or sth.

Review 66:Everything was excellent! The hotel is very new, the design is very stylish. They had good coffee, they even had coffee machines in the rooms. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Review 67:great location. very comfortable bed. I also really liked the room decor - clean lines and modern and the very big Dutch windows. the staff was friendly and made the effort to speak German when they saw I travelled from Vienna

Review 68:Great location .... It's close to city center but not too close. For me, as I have a big suitcase, the walk from the station to the hotel was a bit far especially from the noise created by my luggage wheels. However, without luggage, it's great I like the theme of the hotel ... Cute and creative! The room is well decorated and I like it very much

Review 69:Beds a little soft (if you're used to harder beds, of course!)

Review 70:Very nice hotel just on the edge of the centre of Utrecht, just five mins from the Dom and 10 mins from the station. Also, a little different as a former eye hospital and with its slightly eclectic room floors, furnishings and decorations. Overall very good, offering pretty good value for money. Can't comment on the breakfast as we didn't have it.

Review 71:The open plan bathroom - in our case it meant the sinks were in the sleeping area. Very trendy but not very attractive. Bit of a random approach to breakfast. It was not help yourself for a change but what you got given seemed to be a bit of a lottery. There are good alternative options nearby.

Review 72:Light filled room with windows overlooking gardens. Being just slightly away from the centre and feeling more local as a result.

Review 73:Same breakfast every day, parking was inconvenient and when we parked in the lot across the street our car was broken into with a loss of $5000 in valuables

Review 74:Great staff, clean

Review 75:In some of the rooms the shower doors let a lot of water through onto the rest of the bathroom floor - some rooms are fine, some are not - ask for one with a good shower door! :-)

Review 76:Lovely staff, one of the comfiest beds I have ever used, beautifully decorated rooms

Review 77:Please, read others negative comments: they are almost real! Staff unfrienldy, especially at the reception, where a tall boy pretended to be interested in your claims, but he just sniggered and did not try to help you. Very poor breakfast. Bed and mattress awful, terrible! these are like a camping bed, too soft. it was impossible to sleep! when I read this comment on booking.com, I had laugh, but it is true! We are 30 years old but we got backache. Our room (no. 5) was not too bad, ma there are many room in a kind of cellar with an window on the stairs where people passing through (no. 7, 8..). I have asked for an upper level and quite room when we book and I remember it when I arrived... Staff not interested in. Very noisy rooms, not soundproofed. Water comes out from the shower. Per italiani: non fatevi "intortare" dal design dell'albergo come abbiamo fatto noi! tutta scena ma poca sostanza. Non e' un 4 stelle!

Review 78:Position.

Review 79:Location is a little out of the centre, but not a problem really. Staff need a more training on restaurant recommendations - they plug the one at the sister hotel and don't have anything else much to suggest.

Review 80:Lovely room, great shower, very quiet.

Review 81:As a new hotel it needs refining i.e some of the finishings the shower door didn't shut properly and leaked water through to the basin area. The breakfast was very poor quality and uninspiring, we were even given a dirty cup The female receptionist on the day of our departure was incredibly rude and unhelpful especially when we asked for help The parking was a walk away and not easy to locate.

Review 82:The unusual style of the hotel and concept. The location was good.

Review 83:I thought the room was a bit noisy. I could hear my neighbours walk and talk at 5.30 in the morning and because of the high ceiling and tiled floor of the corridor, I could hear everything there too.

Review 84:Great location, friendly staff and clean, nicely decorated rooms.

Review 85:Wet towels weren't exchanged before the second night.

Review 86:Very nice and new hotel, located in the city center, nice interior and decoration, welcoming and friendly staff.

Review 87:The soft side of the bed was too soft for me. The original bathroom solution in my room would not have been the best for travelling with a friend or family member as it lacked a bit of privacy.

Review 88:A new hotel in a good central location and a nice neighborhood. Very nicely decorated, with a lot of thoughtful details. The room was large and very comfortable and wifi was good and available all over. The double bed had two different mattresses, one soft and one medium (I think). The medium side of the bed was very comfortable. Nice fresh breakfast (a great start every morning) and very friendly staff. It was one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had, and I would definitely choose this hotel if I were to visit Utrecht again.

Review 89:Some small teething problems as it is new - like the ironing board still being on order

Review 90:Refreshing change from a run of the mill business hotel. Warm staff in a fantastically chic environment.

Review 91:Only cold breakfast facilities. I would have loved the option to have poached eggs on toast

Review 92:The staff are very welcoming and being here alone for 2weeks while I waited for my apartment everyone took care of me. Everything is brand new and good quality. Excellent location in the heart of the city without the noise, near all the historic sights. I will highly recommend eye hotel to all friends and family to stay when they come to visit. Very good value for money

Review 93:I had to sign a spam-agreement-form (disclose my email) to check in! No refrigerator in the room. The breakfast was not very rich. The following issues have to do with the fact that the hotel has just opened (11th of June): water was flushing out from the shower, the air-condition was not working properly.

Review 94:The personnel was very helpful. One guy kindly offered to buy a hat for us just because the boutique was on the route to his home. From aesthetic point of view, the interior design is fantastic.

Review 95:Shower -although it works well I think function has been compromised by form. It is almost impossible to have a shower without getting water through the door and onto adjacent floors. Reception sometimes loud early morning and late evening and I don't think staff realise how far their voices can be heard-woke us up at 6am.

Review 96:Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable bed. Great ambience and clever décor Wi-fi worked perfectly Enjoyed complimentary breakfast!

Review 97:I can't think of much really, maybe the shower door doesn't have a huge gap to get in and out but I'm quite big :D

Review 98:The hotel is beautifully designed. The beds are huge and very comfortable. There's a nespresso machine and a kettle with teas in each room. The tv can take a hdmi in if you want to use your laptop for movies and they've plenty of plugs everywhere! The location is very near the nobelstraat where I attend a conference every year so it's central without being near very loud areas. It's a lovely, lovely place and far better than you should be getting for the room rate. Just book it.

Review 99:No gym in this 4 stars rated hotel Heating system did not work

Review 100:Rooms are really nice and hotel is brand new. Breakfast is simple but not expensive. Nice location in the city close to bus stops, shops, and bar/restaurants. Nescafé machine in the room always nice. Staff very friendly and have good attention (was upgraded as a room was available).

Review 101:I am both lactose intolerant and have very high sensitivity to caffeine so would prefer if they had decaffeinated coffee and soy milk available for breakfast.

Review 102:This is a great little place, run by a very friendly crew in the northern area of the old town. The beds are incredibly comfortable and they even have bicyles for hire!

Review 103:They put so much effort but I think first of all they should improve quality of breakfast. Although they served it free due to opening promotion.

Review 104:Location, friendly staff,room design

Review 105:It was pretty noisy. Both the hallway where the doors slam and people having a talk at night, as also the rooms next to each other. The alarmclock of the neighbours woke me up and a sneezy neighbour was like he stood next to me. There was also a bit of a moist atmosphere in the room which felt unpleasant and I missed a little fridge in the room.

Review 106:It is a brandnew hotel, with a nice modern interior. The ambiance of the building is very special en authentic. The bed was very comfortable, plenty of room and even a little outside area. It was clean, though housekeeping in the bathroom could be a bit more thorough.

Review 107:Not a problem for me, but there was no fridge or iron and ironing board in the room. There are also lots of half landings and stairs so if you have trouble with stairs ask for a room on the same level as the lift.

Review 108:Staff were very friendly. Location is good and the rooms are nice. The bed was very comfy (I think it was a water bed).

Review 109:a small strip to stop the water coming out of under the douche needs to be placed

Review 110:everything- beautifully decorated- lamps, chair, pictures and the bed- matras is wonderful

Review 111:I believe they usually charge 10 euros for breakfast- I think that it should probably remain free of charge though, as it is a quite simple breakfast (bread, yogurt, cheese, coffee).

Review 112:Super friendly staff, decoration that is tasteful but also with some character, comfortable bed, nice view. They also gave us breakfast for free! Location was also perfect.

Review 113:They forgot to put shampoo and wash gel in my room so i could not clean myself in the morning. would have called but i was already on a tight schedule.

Review 114:Room was clean with lots of amenities

Review 115:Everything was simply awesome! The hotel is completely new (only a couple days old), the building is in a top location, the staff is friendly and helpful. They also offered complimentary breakfast for our whole stay to celebrate the hotel's opening. If you are looking for a place to stay in Utrecht, this is it.

Review 116:Nothing at all.

Review 117:It is brand new (recently opened/refurbished), decorated around the concept of the "eye". A great style, comfortable, quiet, with a bus stop only a few meters away, if you want to take a bus stop to go to the railway station (easy to reach on foot within 10 minutes). Wi-Fi working and fast, breakfast served in a dining room with different kinds of tables, just like in a café. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 118:Beautiful, small new hotel in Utrecht's city centre, decorated in a tasteful combination of classical and modern. Many playful references to the building's history as an Eye Clinic (of well-known Utrecht ophthalmologist F.C. Donders). Comfortable beds. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Review 119:None

Review 120:Friendly staff,location and cleanliness

Review 121:The service, the staff, design, comfort

Review 122:Very well designed hotel with comfy relaxing rooms, nice staff decent breakfast

Review 123:The location is perfect, the stuff is very helpful, the room was clean, stylish and new.

Review 124:Floor in bathroom and toilet was cold. Water leaked through the door of the bathroom on the floor.

Review 125:Design

Review 126:Wonderfully cosy and classy hotel with unique character!

Review 127:Breakfast was very expensive for what little you got. No choice of anything apart from what you was given!

Review 128:Nice big comfortable room and bed.

Review 129:This very modern hotel is quirky with reminders of the eye hospital that it once was. Eye testing charts with various messages, old equipment, fun.

Review 130:The hotel is well located, staff were very nice. The concept and decoration are really cool. Room are comfortable, nice breakfast.

Review 131:Really charming hotel Staff very friendly Fantastic location
