Reviews for Mother Goose Hotel
Review 1:The small shower gel in the shower had already been used (it was half empty) by the previous customer and not replaced by the cleaning staff
Review 2:Great location, friendly staff, very nice and comfortable rooms, quiet.
Review 3:The room was still cold eventhough we had the heating on all the time we were in the room. It was not that cosy as it seemed to be on the pictures.
Review 4:friendly staff, excellent location
Review 5:There is nothing that I didn't like .
Review 6:A beautiful hotel in the most beautiful neighborhood. Soft beds , all the comforts you need , the stuff always kind and smiling. We will go again for sure.
Review 7:No slippers (this is a disaster for Asian travellers who are now accustomed to bring their own toothbrushes). Toilet smells.
Review 8:Nice staff, always ready to help. And the staff (Ronaold) at Daen's for breakfast is very nice too. Cozy bedroom with nice sheets and pillows (so nice that I actually went to buy some). Excellent location for food and shopping. Good view from my room too.
Review 9:the housekeeper is not very efficent
Review 10:the staff is so welcoming , nice and helpfull. the location is very central in Neude square in the heart of Utrecht , stylish and charming hotel , real dutch spirit , I love the design .
Review 11:We had booked a suite and were very disappointed with it. It was on the top, black, floor and was so dark and dismal we could hardly see what we were doing. The bedside lights also did not work which did not help. The room which wasn't really a suite eg had no sensible chairs, was also very noisy - clanging bells from the tower and lots of noise late at night from the downstairs bar - no double glazing. The hotel fixed the bed side lights but by then we had asked to be moved, which they were able to do to a standard room on the third, brown, floor. Quieter, lighter room at the back but no downgrade in price, which the staff said they were unable to do for us - a bit unreasonable, given how much we were paying for a non-suite. The sink in the standard room did not drain properly so was a bit disgusting after teeth cleaning etc. No breakfast of course and the cafe option was not very good. All in all not worth the money. All style but serious practical issues, which need to be sorted out. We would not stay here again.
Review 12:The location of the hotel was excellent for the old town, plenty restaurants in easy walking distance. The staff did their best to help, but this did not make up for the issues with this hotel.
Review 13:Confusion re check in/out times despite sending an email prior to arrival however staff were able to sort this out
Review 14:Beautiful hotel in central location
Review 15:Arriving by car not recommended!
Review 16:Beautiful rooms, great location and very helpful and nice staff. Super cosy bed! Lots of interesting shops, cafés and restaurants close to the hotel.
Review 17:On the surface the MG bedrooms are very clean but they have not had a deep clean (ledges, skirtings, door panelling... all had a layer of dust/dirt. The area above the wash basin was very dirty... soap stains, water marks etc etc and the soap dish needs a turn in the dishwasher. Our biggest problem though was being told on arrival that we had to leave the hotel and go elsewhere for breakfast... this was not mentioned in the booking process.
Review 18:MG is situated in a superb location overlooking a small square and very near the Dom. Staff were great, bed super comfortable. Very tastefully decorated in a contemporary style.
Review 19:Utrecht in general is quite squiggly so it can be hard to find!
Review 20:Friendly staff, beautiful room - we had treated ourselves to a suite but I had a nosey in my friends normal room and that was nice too :-) and with a nice square either side of the hotel
Review 21:Nothing negative.
Review 22:This is the most amazing little hotel! Beautiful, uniquely decorated, clean, immaculate, perfect location. I cannot say enough about how much I loved this place!
Review 23:No breakfast available on site - the two options provided were quite different - the cafe option nearby in Ganzenmarkt was very poor value; the breakfast at the sister hotel "Court Hotel" was excellent and the walk there very pleasant - but the distance at not suite everyone
Review 24:Excellent location; bikes available from the hotel is a great service !
Review 25:The room, staff, location and everything met all of our expectations! Itwas the best start to our European travel. I will definitely book againat Mother Goose! Thank you!!! There was not one thing left unattended. My daughter and I loved our stay!
Review 26:The lift is quite small and we had to carry our baby carriage up a handful of stairs. The airco in the room is also quite noisy. The shower needs better lighting. We could care less that there isn't a restaurant on the premises as we prefer to eat out anyway, but a few comfortable chairs in the lobby would have been nice. A separate room for storing luggage would also be good.
Review 27:We loved the large, comfortable bed and warm, homely decor - a combination of trendy European design, quirky touches and original features. The super-central location was great and the staff very friendly and helpful (they even gave us a free upgrade!) We've seldom felt so at home in a hotel and we would gladly stay at Mother Goose again.
Review 28:We sure did not like that we had to leave so soon.
Review 29:Choosing this hotel for proposing to my girlfriend should say everything. It´s beautiful, small, romantic and the cherry on top was the service, which was extremly friendly and helpful. We came back now one year later and found that it was as good as we remembered - if not even better :-) Just perfect!
Review 30:We had a wonderful time here: the hotel is downtown, the staff very friendly and professional, and the room clean, trendy and quiet. I can highly recommend this hotel!
Review 31:Interesting window view but not particularly nice, however next time I would simply request a room on the other side of the building overlooking the square.
Review 32:Great little city square for tourists and locals. Perfect neighborhood for a holiday, right by a canal and many eating/drinking options. All the staff were super friendly and very accomodating with routine and special requests. The room was unique and cozy with a great shower. Nice lift with glass walls for a little view on the rides up and down. Dutch stairs can be a challenge and since I was overcoming a knee injury it was very convenient.
Review 33:Small reception No regular hotels facilities like Gem or pool ... You have to use small stair to reach top floor Our room was not sound sealed (you hear noise in corridor)
Review 34:Location Staff cleanliness Top floor room
Review 35:Nothhing
Review 36:Mother Goast is excellent place to stay. It's close to the city, its not noisy at all. There is lot of bars and restaurants around and big supermarket as well. Room was so clean with a Franch style decoration what makes it very cozy and romantic. There was organic collection of tea and water waiting in the room. Bed is very comfortable and shower is perfect. Stuff is very friendly and they are open 24hours. I had really good time and worth for the price they offer.
Review 37:Het bed was erg klein, maar bij de informatie was aangegeven dat het een kleine kamer betrof, dus nauwelijks als kritiek te duiden.
Review 38:Prima locatie, vriendelijk personeel.
Review 39:The staff were wonderful and helpful. Room was original and beautiful. Bed and bedding were exquisite. Towels and toiletries were of excellent quality. Good location.
Review 40:The colour of the room but it did not detract from the comfort. Next time I will ask a different floor
Review 41:Location, friendliness and helpfulness of all staff. Room very comfortable but different. We were on the 4th floor, Black Goose so room all black, lots of funky lighting but did take time to get use to it. No restaurant in the hotel, did not take up offer of vouchers, this meant we could choose where we had breakfast.
Review 42:The shower was separated from the room only by a glass door which didn't close properly - as a result there was a big puddle in the room and my bag that I had left next to the bed got soaked. The bed was much too soft for my taste. The curtains let in a lot of light and I woke up at 5:30 due to the light, quite annoying! There were four capsules for the coffee machine but only 2 portions of cream. I like my coffee with lots of milk so it was just enough for one cup.
Review 43:Good Wifi, good location.
Review 44:The room has not computer workbench, poor lighting, incomplete cupboards whose handles fell off and the plugs are too far from the small table to be able to plugin your laptop or phone. The room needs serious renovation as the are parts of the wall that are not plastered and the staircase is too steep.
Review 45:The location
Review 46:Tucked away on a little street right off the square with a beautiful view of the bell tower. Staying in Utrecht and taking the train into Amsterdam couldn't have been any easier. It gave us the best of both worlds with a big city and a small town. Rooms were on the small size but were very tastefully done. Loved the decorating. The shower and the towels were a 10+! Breakfast is offsite and we did not get it. The staff was super friendly. Overall a great choice!
Review 47:I had reservations about the unconventional bathroom - only the lavatory is separate as the shower opens directly onto the room and the washstand is in the room. Lack of storage space and surfaces. However, this wouldn't stop me from recommending this hotel or staying again.
Review 48:The location of the hotel is perfect for the canal, Domplein, cafes, restaurants and shops. The rooms are very stylish/trendy.
Review 49:The hotel is limited service and does not have its restaurant. You buy avoucher for Euro 12.50 and cross the street to Daen's cafe, theworst experience we had in nine days in Holland. Bad food, bad service, massively overpriced, and nothing like the photos on the Mother Goosewebsite. Do not eat here!!!!'. On our second day, we had anexcellent buffet breakfast at the nearby nh Hotel Broere Cafe for thesame price. Go to McDonalds, it will be better than Daens!
Review 50:Location was excellently near canal, Dom
Review 51:The room was really cold during the night. The bed is small and so is the shower. My husband is almost 2,00m and he didn't fit in the shower or in the bed. Our room was close to the lift and we could hear everyone arriving or leaving during the whole night.
Review 52:The staff is extremely helpful and friendly and the location is perfect. The room was clean and there are coffee and tea facilities.
Review 53:My experience was excellent--I enjoyed hearing the carillon of the bell tower, which rings around the clock, but it might disturb others.
Review 54:This hotel is cool. It's small, with excellent facilities, chic & comfortable furnishings, and a beautiful location. My room had large windows with a view of the bell tower of the Cathedral.
Review 55:The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the location was wonderful, just 10 min walk from the train station and to the center of the city. I loved the gray tones in the room and the Nespresso machine in the room was definitely a big plus. Despite being jet-lagged, I had the best sleep ever for the 3 nights I stayed. the room was quiet and the bed very comfortable. I would love to come back!
Review 56:First off the attention to detail for this perfectly located hotel was spot on. Quirky with original features left to fascinate and delight a creative mind. Comfy, fresh and just lovely. Will definitely be staying here again. Very friendly and helpful staff too
Review 57:This is not only not a 4**** but I would say not even an "hotel", but much more a charme B&B. Nothing wrong with it, as long as it would be clearly explained. A 4**** hotel is expeceted to have a lobby and common spaces, while this small hotels is as a microscopit entrance and... that's all about it! No frigo bar in the room (again: not a major, but in a 4**** is the minimum!) and, wrost of everything: NO RADIOTORS in the room! The only way ti heat the room, it is to use the air-con with how air.. terrible!,as on oen side is noisy, on another simply warm air does not even by far heat like a radiator, doesn't remove the humidity and room ambient was not cosy due to this serious lack. Plus the staff was extremely friendly but not skilled at all (for ex.: they did not even knwo how the lights of the room where working! or how to close a skylight! Actually, they propose to change the room because... they didn't know!)
Review 58:We loved the design and decor and the friendly staff; great position too for turism (not for business)
Review 59:I didn't mind the bath in the room itself (no privacy) but there were so many design issues that made the room difficult to enjoy and relax in, it really didn't work for us. First, the room was depressingly grey (I think too dark a choice of tone) with black 'highlights'. One tiny drawer for clothes and nowhere to comfortably place a second open suitcase. The TV was stuck to a shelf beside the bed so you could only watch it when in bed (despite the room having two comfy armchairs), plus the shelf was so close to the bed that it was difficult to manoeuvre around the tv (without hitting your head on the ceiling as well!). A small basin with nowhere to put toiletries or place the hand towel near the basin. They had a ladder towel rack but it was some way from the basin. The kettle was tiny and the cups were really only for expresso coffee drinkers (it's like the hotel didn't know anything about tea). I opened the complimentary vanity case box to find it empty plus the shower gel and shampoo were exactly the same product in two different bottles (so housekeeping is not as I would expect for this type of hotel). To top it off, the bed was very soft… felt like the mattress was already out of shape after years of wear, but actually the hotel is only 6 months old. They don't have breakfast on site (we knew this) but the breakfast they offer over the road doesn't cater for dietary needs (we would have to walk several blocks to their sister hotel and that was not convenient). When I complained about some of the things (the bed, mainly) they were not apologetic but instead said how everyone else was happy. Well, we weren't and we won't be back.
Review 60:We stayed on the top floor (the black floor - we found out) and had superb views three ways to the city. It was a large room, stylishly decorated.
Review 61:Nothing really to criticise
Review 62:Excellent reception, friendly and helpful staff, perfect location for a business traveller and tourist alike, very spacious room - I was given one with a remarkable view of the square and the Dom, breakfast possible elsewhere but functional and good value for money.
Review 63:The suite has no refrigerator! The parking could be a problem too. Parking is expensive in downtown, otherwise you should park outside of the city (P+R)
Review 64:The location and the facilities are perfect, direct in downtown. a romantic hotel for a nice weekend in Utrecht. the room (suite) is excellent with view on the Dom.
Review 65:As I was in a small corner room and it was freezing outside, it was hard to get the heat up in the room. Inconvinient to go out for breakfast. An option of a smaller meal to be taken in the room should be available.
Review 66:Spectacular and original decor in this charming old building, located right in center of old parts of town with a lot of resturants nearby. Nice staff and welcoming atmosphere.
Review 67:Something to improve are the lights in the room. The room was too dark! Especially above the mirror above the washing table. Could not see anything. Not very nice during shaving or for my wife to do make-up! Change this and all is perfect.
Review 68:Locatie Design Staff
Review 69:Standard rooms are impossibly small and pokey. Lack of storage space is problematic.Shower opening into bedroom is just weird and duvet (I'm sure) is filled with synthetic filling. Down (it is Mother Goose after all) would have been so much more comfortable!
Review 70:The quirky and tasteful decor of rooms and the hotel in general. Natural fibre bed linen. Thank you, Mother Goose
Review 71:Nothing, but I'd be tempted to upgrade to a slightly bigger room next time.
Review 72:Boutique hotel with lots of lovely designer touches; four floors with different goosey themes. Cosy rooms. Fantastic shower. Staff are absolutely wonderful. Location is perfect.
Review 73:The room was very dark, lights did not work by the bedside so added to the problem. Rooms small with little space for luggage.
Review 74:The location was excellent.
Review 75:I liked the feel and the attentiveness and sense of interest and personal detail shown by the staff. Being able to grab an apple and something to drink - free - at the reception - since we had to check out at 6.30 am was a huge plus ( especially for my wife) , and actually made us feel more at home... oddly, since we were just leaving...
Review 76:Should I say somthing, I would say that the heating system was a little bit noisy
Review 77:Location in the center but very quiet New hotel with very nice decorated rooms Great quality of equipment and very confortable bed Personal very pleasant
Review 78:I was allocated a room overlooking the square (Ganzenmarkt) which, whilst having secondary glazing, turned out to be very noisy late into the night and thus my sleep was disturbed.
Review 79:Ambience. Decor and fittings unlike anything that I have previously encountered. Location. Convenient for everything - shops, eating places and the railway station.
Review 80:Poor staff with no management. We made our reservations 2 months in advance. I even confirmed everything was set via email a couple of days before arrival. Then on arrival I am told they are "upgrading us" for a night, and then we have to move rooms. We told them we didn't want the upgrade but they said we had no choice because they overbooked. Well after going back and forth with the 2 staff members (no more than 18 years old each), they said, "Okay I think they must have made a mistake, you can stay in that room".. okay great- until day 2: when we go to the front desk, they ask if we are checked out to move rooms... once again we go through a big conversation, now with the one staff member (who's about 20 years old). Long story short, we were able to stay in our room, but it was very disappointing and aggravating to have had to deal with this situation. At no point during our stay did we see a manager either. Then finally, upon check out, they tried to overcharge us by about 100 euro. The staff member (about 20 years old), took more than 20 minutes trying to fix the situation. The room rate changed from 155 euro on night one and 2, to 190 euro on night 3. They were trying to charge us 190 for each of the 3 nights. Luckily, they had the detailed paperwork, but trying to fix it to charge us so we could leave took forever. Overall very dissappointed with the way the run the establishment. Finally, they forget to actually clean our room after night 1. They left the garbage piled in the corner, and didn't refresh the room at all. We contacted the front desk, who was apologetic about it.
Review 81:Great location- doesn't get any better, great view of the Dom Tower, comfortable bed.
Review 82:We had no complaints but some might not like the lack of breakfast or the open bathroom style.
Review 83:Boutique style and comfortable. The room was stylish and comfortable. Bed was very comfortable and the hotel was extremely quiet.
Review 84:The room was VERY small and there was absolutely no where to leave our suitcase. There are too many decorations that take up valuable space in the room. There was no closet....just three hangers hanging from rope. No ventilation at all so the room smelled of mold and our bath towels were constantly wet. The room just did not have that clean feeling or smell to it.
Review 85:The central location was just PERFECT to see the entire city by foot. Wi-fi was excellent.
Review 86:Breakfast costs extra and is in another hotel about a 7 minute walk away. It is a nice walk so long as it isn't rainy or cold. This other breakfast hotel is nice, but the quality of the breakfast wasn't great considering the price you pay. Consider getting your own breakfast at a nearby bakery instead. Rooms are not very sound-proof. Walk in shower is great, but there is no bath. For the price you pay, I might expect better sound-proofed rooms, breakfast included, and a bath as I get at similarly-priced hotels elsewhere in Utrecht. At this hotel, you are mostly paying extra for the stylish cozy rooms.
Review 87:Modern, stylish rooms are very cozy for a couple. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great location right in the city center.
Review 88:We slept here for one night and there were nothing to complain about.
Review 89:We had a really good stay at Mother Goose. The location was excellent, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the room was nicely designed and decorated. It felt like a real home, like borrowing someone's apartment. Attention to details gave that extra luxury. A big bed with fluffy bedding, an espresso machine and a big bathroom contributed to the overall feeling. I can warmly recommend a stay here!
Review 90:Rooms need a luggage rack and are quite compact. They are attractively decorated, but need a little more functionality. A luggage rack would help relieve clutter in small room.
Review 91:The location was ideal !
Review 92:Room had no mini fridge or complementary water. Check in was very much: here is the key, no information on facilities or local area. On the morning of check out we were delayed by 15 mins and we got a call to kick us out. I understand they need to get room ready for other guests but I've never been kicked out for 15 mins. If I had been there for 30mins+ maybe but for 15 mins? You don't expect that when you're paying 200euros a night.
Review 93:Great and quiet locations, very comfortable room
Review 94:Breakfast outside of the hotel - 10min walking distance and it starts at 10.30!!! 1st time I see that!!! Not convenient at all!
Review 95:Interesting design, however, not for everyone. The room was grey and quite dark, although nicely decorated. Comfortable bed. Great location
Review 96:But this place was exquisite, tasteful, calm yet central. Great plush towels, and bed that you can melt into. And a hair dryer that blows you hair dry. Classy and cosy and courteous.
Review 97:The housekeeper is not very clean had to give her some comments so to have the cleanliness required
Review 98:It's a charming hotel goes with the spirit of utrecht excellent location all the staff are very helpful and nice with no exception felt like home . I will come back for sure and recommend this hotel . Thank you mother gooze
Review 99:Room was rather airless - in spite of aircon - lovely big windows, but they didn't open. Toilet very small.
Review 100:Great location - quiet, but just off a cobbled square with cafes and bars, and near the Dom tower. All white decor - large and very comfortable bed - we stayed in a standard double room - lovely and plentiful soft towels and great coffee maker! Staff very helpful, and breakfast provided at another hotel 5 minutes walk away, was excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Review 101:Friendly, clean, spacious, scilent and in the very hart of the city! I'll never stay annywere else when in Utrecht! Super romantic and private suites. It's wonderfull.
Review 102:The air condition did not work when we stayed during a very hot weekend but the staff could not have been more helpful offering my family a room at the back with less sunshine and a great discount due to the inconvenience
Review 103:Delightful and friendly staff, beautiful rooms decorated to a very high standard by a local design company, cosy, quirky and all that you could need from a hotel. It is a small hotel packed with a big amount of taste and charm in a great location
Review 104:I'm almost afraid to give such a glowing review, because this new small beautifully warm and cozy hotel us sure to fill up and raise their prices!
Review 105:does not have a breakfast room. Breakfast is served in nearby hotel. Reception area does not have toilet
Review 106:Superior rooms are really really nice and comfortable.
Review 107:Ony open 2 weeks ago and restaurant not open yet. Had to have breakfast in sister hotel which is a 10 min walk away. No irons in hotel either, but they were happy to bring one for me from sister hotel. Some some issues with noisy extractor fan in wetroom which I couldn't switch off. Just teething troubles I'm sure for a very new hotel.
Review 108:Great, stylish rooms with excellent beddng and towels! Perfect location to explore the centre of Utrecht. There on business but would definitely go back as a tourist and would be delighted to stay there again.
Review 109:Staff very helpfull. Room very good, view over the Dom Tower.
Review 110:EVERYTHING
Review 111:Great decor and feel. Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The perfect feel for Utrecht.
Review 112:There was a noise from the ventilation and we couldn't sleep. It s a pitty cause all the rest were superd.
Review 113:Very nice bed
Review 114:Quirky but everything I needed. Really friendly staff. Very good location.
Review 115:Great location!
Review 116:Amazing location, great design, very comfortable room with outstanding view. Even Nespresso in the room. Amazing!
Review 117:We loved the free candy in the lobby!
Review 118:Room, location
Review 119:Friendly staff.interesting decor
Review 120:no breakfast....
Review 121:Nothing
Review 122:Very helpful staff. Nice coffee machines in the room.
Review 123:Location,Location,Location Quirky and Funky Hotel Good value for money
Review 124:small bed and hard bed
Review 125:location, decor
Review 126:Design. Location. Quality of bed and linnen. Committed and engaged personnel.
Review 127:Charming Boutique Hotel at an excellent location! Very friendly staff and a great interior designed room:)
The Fine Print
Please note that breakfast is served at restaurant De Rechtbank in the Court Hotel. It is located at Korte Nieuwstraat 14, just over a quarter mile from the property.
