Reviews for Maria's B&B

Review 1:That we did not stay longer

Review 2:We could use the kitchen in the evening. The home backed cakes are a delight. Beach towels are available. The staff are so thoughtful and happy I would highly recommended this B&B and Gozo

Review 3:Pool, breakfast with fresh homemade cakes available throughout he day.. Access to cooking facilities relaxing setting and really welcoming staff.. Oh and good cats!

Review 4:The staff is really doing a good job, everything is being taken care off, the only little disappointment would be that the B&B is not a very 'personal' place. The owners just come to take care of breakfast and clean, and the interaction at times felt a bit 'robotic'. Still: a lot better than a hotel mind you.

Review 5:The B&B runs like a well oiled machine. The house itself is extremely beautiful, with many spots to quietly sit and rest. There's a supermarket nearby for food and all the equipment is there to cook.

Review 6:Not bad exactly but a tv to relax to would be beneficial. The one in the dining area had he news on but it would have been good to relax to a movie after a day of exploring in the sunshine.

Review 7:The b+b is situated in an old building with lots of character. The room was spacious and the beds comfortable. It was peaceful and quiet which suited us a lot. There is a lovely pool area that is sheltered and private. The breakfast is superb and the staff welcoming and pleasant.

Review 8:Window overlooked street and had to close it at times due to noise from outside. We do not recommend rooms overlooking streets.

Review 9:Very nice staff. Excellent breakfast. Very nice room.

Review 10:We had to wait 45 minutes for someone to come to to property to check us in. We had to pay a deposit by bank transfer- incurring an additional $25 in bank fees! Difficult to find- the location on booking.com is at least a couple of km off.

Review 11:Had one night where noisy neighbours spoilt the tranquility but Sonia resolved it quickly.

Review 12:Old rustic charm and meeting other guests from around the world.

Review 13:I just loved everything!! Gozo is just an island where time stops!! Maria B&B was just a piece of paradise, the swimming pool to relax, the cosy ambiance of the B&B. It is really sophistacatedly decorated and charming. Not to mention that Sonia and her sister were really nice and welcoming. We just had an amazing time there!

Review 14:the light in the bedroom and bathroom very poor

Review 15:An excellent peaceful quiet place to relax and unwind from the busy hassle and bustle life - a gem and definitely we will return again in March/April

Review 16:Lack of light in our room but we had only booked a small room . other rooms there had much larger windows.

Review 17:Very quiet. Easy to get to other places. Excellent help from owner. Swimming pool.

Review 18:Very quiet area, would recommend hiring car / jeep to get around and see all the beautiful places of interest. (The roads aren't the best in places).

Review 19:Quaint farmhouse property with a pool, friendly staff and exceptionally clean. Loved it!

Review 20:It cost us a bit to find the place the first day

Review 21:Service: a couple very customer oriented. They helped us very much. Good breakfast. The house incredible, stone made, a good swimming pool. Very value for money

Review 22:Extra payment for air condition required. Should be included in the rent.

Review 23:Excellent breakfast! Nice pool. Sonja was a very nice host and has given helpful information.

Review 24:Beautiful! Wonderful breakfast. Friendly and helpful owners. Lots of useful things to borrow to save packing eg flippers, water shoes, conditioner and best of all washing machine. Overall superb. A little out of the way but lovely and quiet. Dearly hope to return.

Review 25:- When showing us the property and the room, Sonia started with a series of 'don'ts' and things we shouldn't do: 'Don't use ac with windows open because it's bad on the motor,' 'Don't smoke in the room,' 'Don't leave doors open because of cats'. We found this extremely unwelcoming and it was honestly the most negative start to a stay in any B&B, guesthouse, hotel, rental or even hostel I have ever experienced.- The extra cost for AC should be on the main property page, as it seems to apply to all rooms, and the €10-per-night figure should be listed specifically rather than a vague reference to an additional cost. - No towels were provided on day 1 or 2 of our stay. Luckily we discovered a box of beach towels in the hall so we were able to dry ourselves after showering! They were mysteriously provided on day 3. Rather than apologise or explain, Sonia disputed this and told us that towels were provided. - We were never told what the cooked breakfast options were and Sonia didn't ask how we would like our eggs, which just arrived fried. Again, she disputed this when we provided feedback, telling us that we were offered all options. - Despite knowing that it was our last day, there was no offer to organise a taxi to the harbour and we were never asked how our stay was. - Having to wire a deposit is costly. Most businesses we've been to in Malta, even in more rural areas, accept credit and debit cards. This should be resolved.

Review 26:- The property itself is beautiful and the pool area is a lovely place to relax.- Gozo is stunning, and the Wied il-Ghasri gorge is within a 30-minute walk. Ta Pinu and the Blue Window are also nearby. - The boy working at breakfast (not sure of his name) was great - really friendly and helpful.

Review 27:The bed was a little uncomfortable. Also, I was travelling with my mom. A room with single beds wasn't available at the time of my booking, so the double was small for 2 adults. The fan noise kept me awake the first night as it's quite powerful and I'm not used to sleeping with any noise. Also, it's my own fault, but I thought the BnB might be close to beaches since everyone told me that the Maltese islands were very small. If you stay here, it's best with a car, as it requires 2 busses to get to a nice beach (Ramla Bay.)

Review 28:Loved the breakfast.

Review 29:You have to pay 10 euro per night for AC. There's a fan in the room but if you can't handle the heat you'll need the AC and we felt 10 euro was a little too much. We would have been happy to pay 5 euro a night.

Review 30:Great Breakfast Clean rooms Unique atmosphere

Review 31:Needed some extra lighting in room

Review 32:Place is very clean in a secluded area in Gozo. They serve both Continental and English breakfast. Service always comes with a smile.

Review 33:Very interesting and tastefully decorated B&B. Very relaxing and staff very nice. Had use of the kitchen and washing machine, which was a real bonus

Review 34:There is a great bus to the capital, Victoria, outside, but I'd reccomend having your own transport to get around

Review 35:Wonderful farmhouse, well looked after and an incredibly peaceful and serene setting.

Review 36:No bad experience at all, but the area is very quiet so recommended for a quiet and relaxing break.

Review 37:A super springtime hideaway break. Close to the capital, with fantastic country views and walks, close to all amenities and intimate atmospheric restaurants. With own key in hand, it was a home away from home with the facility of cooking own meals if desired.

Review 38:Wi-Fi signal wasn't the best in the top room, but hardly an issue!

Review 39:Staff were so helpful, the building is beautiful and spacious, the pool area and terrace are excellent for relaxing. Breakfast was brilliant. Fantastic value for money and a wonderful haven to get back to at the end of the day.

Review 40:The house and the rooms are unheated, which in late spring, summer and autumn according to other guests is fine, but for us in late March it was too cold and damp.

Review 41:The building is beautifully restored, the breakfast was very good, delicious new cake every day. Nice swimming pool outside but unheated, and the weather was too cold, but I'm sure very enjoyable during hot summers. Very nice fireplace, helped us warm up a little and have a cosy time with other guests. Sonia provided some great tips for places to visit and places to dine. Useful brochures available for guests.

Review 42:We didn't like all the hunters out shooting early in the morning

Review 43:The style of the B&B it self in particular the large country kitchen and very comfortable living area. Staff were fantastic and the breakfast was very good

Review 44:The B and B was lovely, very traditional and very comfortable. The staff could not have been more helpful, breakfast good, with the addition of cakes every day. Thought it may be a little secluded but as everything is so close in Gozo and we had a car there was no problem in getting anywhere. Buses were reliable also. Could not really fault the B and B at all.

Review 45:The B&B is 10 minutes away from Victoria by bus. The bus stop is 5 minutes walk from the B&B which is very convenient. It was very clean and quiet. The staff was very friendly and accommodating knowing that we were a vegan couple. I really enjoyed staying there and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday.

Review 46:Everything was just perfect:) *service was great (Maria was really nice and helpful, she even helped us to rent the bikes) *breakfast was tasty (especially cakes) *and...interiors-our "rustic style" room was just amazing-huge and clean and really comfy :) I could stay there forever

Review 47:- the staff is only around early in the morning, so you if you require some assistance you have to call someone and the owner/staff do not live close to the B&B; - we booked a taxi to the airport from the B&B, for which an amount of € 50 was charged. That was definitely too expensive. The father of Sonia brought us to the ferry, which is normally around € 15 to € 20, and from the harbour on Malta to the airport we were picked up by a van. All the people in the van had paid the amount normally charged by a taxi, so apparently the hotels and/or B&B's charge too much for this.

Review 48:- the service is very good and the amount per night is more than reasonable - the place itself is very good as well - the breakfast is excellent! Every morning you are asked how you want your eggs and there are always self-baked cakes for breakfast; - beach towels and snorkeling gear is available for free.

Review 49:Sonia met us at the bus stop - what a lovely welcome! This tastefully renovated farmhouse is set in the country but only 5 mins from the bus stop. We loved the solitude, the location, the roof terrace off our room with all round views and the BATH after a long day's walk. Excellent breakfast with freshly-made cakes and a cooked breakfast option.

Review 50:My husband and I absolutely loved our stay at Maria's B&B. Sonya, Victor and daddy Joe are just the nicest, friendliest, warmest and most helpful people. They made us feel so welcome. Loved it so much that we will definitely go back.

Review 51:The early morning shooting and the late night village party - neither the fault of Sonia! Also arriving late in the evening by bus was not too easy.

Review 52:The overall peace and tranquillity, the freedom to relax and to do some nice walks from the house.

Review 53:Lots of biting insects from dusk on Air con was an additional cost Cramped bedroom Difficult to contact non-resident owner on arrival

Review 54:Superb breakfasts Well kept facilities Spacious general rooms and courtyards Kitchen facilities could be used

Review 55:Lovely quiet village away from the touristy areas of Malta. Great breakfast around the pool. Beautiful complex of 8 rooms in an ancient farmhouse with a large self cooking area.

Review 56:Nothing

Review 57:We really enjoyed our stay on Gozo which was enhanced by the excellent service and ambiance at Maria's B&B. Sonia and her family were welcoming and professional. The daily breakfast was exceptional and filling enough to see us through the day! Swimming pool was lovely and a focal point for socialising though never crowded.

Review 58:Nothing really........except maybe a bit longer timing for lights.

Review 59:The location of Maria's B & B - perfect to spend a relaxing holiday The friendliness and helpfulness of Sonia, her family and staff. The cleanliness of the whole place. The quality, quantity and freshness of the breakfast offered. The fact that you can use the kitchen to prepare something to eat.

Review 60:The peace and quiet, an excellent place to relax. A tip, rent a car, Gozo trafic is much more laid back than in Malta and a car makes is easier to reach the little beaches (which are much much better than in Malta).

Review 61:-

Review 62:The farmhouse is beautifully renovated and it is very spacious - even with a few other guests in the house, it feels as if you were there on your own - enjoying the carefully laid out details of the house, the pool, the flowers etc. Its also a great base for exploring Gozo - public transportation is perfect so you can cover the entire island from this location. The hosts are very professional and friendly.

Review 63:Lack of air conditioning. But this will not influence my rating as excellent.

Review 64:The owner's family, who is the stuff... The place. Little peace of heaven.

Review 65:€10 for AC in sizzling heat like she's burning California redwoods for energy No one to let us in, no way to contact anyone without a phone No adapters Village has nothing Expensive Requires cash??! Bad shower No door or sign for Maria's B&B in some sun-parched sad little village Sonia was nasty Off a bus stop that runs "once an hour"-ish

Review 66:Nice house and pool Pretty scenery Good breakfast wait staff Friendly French guests

Review 67:Very beautiful place, with a lot of plants and flowers in a wonderful house. It was nice to spend time around the swimming pool or on the different balconies and patios. The possibility to cook in the kitchen is also very convenient. I highly recommend this place!

Review 68:Bit hard to find.

Review 69:Very nice, partly old farmhouse with all comforts including pool, deck chairs, lots of balconies, large kitchen and very good breakfast around the pool. Quiet location in a small village. A car helps to get around.

Review 70:Unfortunately the twin bedded room had no aircon but we were supplied with a fan which did the job

Review 71:Myself and my friend shared a twin room for 3 nights we found the room and the staff to be lovely. It is in a little village with a well equipped store 5 mins drive away. The breakfast was fab with fresh fruits cereals juices and cooked breakfast to order. It had a lovely courtyard with pool where breakfast was served. We would recommend and definitely stay again

Review 72:Instant coffee at breakfast was a big surprise and disappointment and really let the side down.

Review 73:Everything was fantastic - except the coffee.

Review 74:The house is beautifully furnished, rooms are spacious and comfortable, breakfast is great and Sonia's cakes are delicious!

Review 75:Sonia was just the most beautiful host. Nothing was a bother 2 her and the breakfast was outstanding.

Review 76:Enormous and heavy keys. Typical but unpractical

Review 77:Charming farm house, very quite and clean. Delicious cakes for breakfast. Sonia was very kind

Review 78:Far away from beaches, supermarkets and places where to go out

Review 79:Ancient style of the rooms, breakfast, bbq area by the pool, shared kitchen

Review 80:Squishy wifi. Tons of mosquitos. Position suboptimal. No A/C, just fans.

Review 81:Swimming pool. Wonderful structure. Cats :D

Review 82:Wonderful historical building. Convenient use of large kitchen at all times. Lovely pool & surroundings.

Review 83:Charming farmhouse, clean, good bfast

Review 84:Quite far out from restaurants buses fairly reliable but only hourly

Review 85:Pool was lovely great outside space

Review 86:Nothing!!

Review 87:Nice staff! Great location!!

Review 88:The kindness from the lokal people. Peace and quit.

Review 89:This is a great quiet location in Gozo which is beautifully kept and with very good service.

Review 90:There are no comments available for this review

Review 91:Not well comunicated bus only pass once an hour.

Review 92:Very nice place to stay, you get everything you need.

Review 93:Swimming pool was blooming cold

Review 94:Everything from the delightful owners to the great, peaceful location.

Review 95:No fitted shower, rather a hand held nozzle, but that wouldn't stop me going back!

Review 96:Made to feel at home by Sonia and her family. Fantastic location to get away from it all. Spectacular scenery within driving distance.

Review 97:I can't think of anything... it was all very good.

Review 98:The location. The breakfasts. The pool. The fact that we could cater for ourselves in the evening...using the kitchen. The helpfulness and kindness of Sonia and her family.

Review 99:The staff is not very nice. It took them over 35 minutes to arrive to let us in, and they are only there for a few hours in the morning. Breakfast lasts only for an hour but is nice. The lack of light switches for the hallways which means that you have to constantly be activating the motion sensor if you want to sit in the sofa in the second floor hallway...

Review 100:The property is amazing both in the style and the amenities.

Review 101:we had to leave after a week...

Review 102:good base to explore Gozo, walking or by bus - bus stops just around the corner. Friendly and considerate staff, rich and varied breakfast, whole place well appointed and looked after

Review 103:The directions to find the B&B needed to be slightly more detailed for those driving and/or walking (turn left from the Ta Fanal Bus stop if walking would have helped!).

Review 104:Such a characterful place - we loved it and was exactly what we were looking for from our stay in Malta & Gozo.

Review 105:Loved the warm welcome at the bus stop, the peace and tranquilty and the way the old farmhouse had been done up. Thank you for all your hospitality, would highly recommend it to friends wanting to explore Gozo and just relax at the B&B

Review 106:Everything! It's an awesome place located in the middle of Gozo and a perfect starting point to discover the whole island. It's quiet, beautiful and perfect for everyone who wants to relax and enjoy a nice piece of culture.

Review 107:Needs more lighting, during the night, near the steps from the kitchen leading to the pool. A telephone + a list of imp tel nos in the rooms is recommended especially in an emergency.

Review 108:A quiet location. less than 10mins away from capital (by car) Very helpful staff esp. Sonia Very good breakfast. Very clean rooms.

Review 109:Very dim lighting in bedroom. Credit cards not accepted; cash only.

Review 110:Traditional buildings, well restored and extended. Beautiful courtyard with own swimming pool. Excellent breakfast and home-made cakes for tea-time.

Review 111:Very quiet and relaxing. Very oldie-worldie, a classic slice of rural Gozitan life. It's not actually in Ghasri, it's actually in Il Fanal. This is not a problem. There are no restaurants in either of them. There are several good restaurants in nearby Gharb, however, which is a short walk away. It's remoteness, could be a problem, but if you like the quiet life, it is perfect.

Review 112:Very little! There were a lot of mosquitos, and while we were given anti-mosquito plug-ins, these were ineffective. We were bitten a lot and still have the scars to prove it! We would suggest better mosquito proofing - sealing the beautiful old windows would help! There are also effective house sprays available. Reading light in our otherwise comfortable and well appointed room could have been better.

Review 113:The cakes! Sonja, the owner, makes the most delicious cakes each day which residents can (and do!) consume for no extra charge. The house and pool are extremely attractive and the situation beautiful. Sonja and her staff are polite, super efficient, charming.

Review 114:Absolutly nothing

Review 115:It was like being at home with the benefits of someone cooking breakfast and cleaning your room then having the use of the facilities as you wished. In our opinion better than staying at a hotel.

Review 116:The room was quite small and hot at night. The €10 supplement fora/c did not seem value for money. There was an out dated televisionin the communal lounge which didn't work due to a problem with thesatellite company

Review 117:The food was excellent and the owner could not have done more for us.

Review 118:We travel in Gozo either by bus (1 every hour) or by bike. Not all the bus drivers were bike-friendly, in spite of steep roads to reach most of the beaches. The time for breakfast (8.30-9.30) could be extended to be able to sleep late.

Review 119:The B&B is absolutely lovely and very quiet. Sonia is very helpful and nice. From the B&B, you have access to a superb cove after ~20min walk in the fields.

Review 120:We had a lovely stay, so comfortable and clean and relaxing. Gozo is very easy to get around if you have your own transport so the accommodation is well placed to visit all the island.

Review 121:It would have been nice to be abke to walk to a bar or a restaurant but there were none in Ghasri itself so we had to drive to other villages. However this is only a minor problem.

Review 122:Really nice accomodation, very clean. Staff were really friendly and helpful. The breakfast and the homemade cakes were delicious.

Review 123:The relaxed atmosphere and friendly and helpful staff. The village location with easy access to public transport and small local s upermarket. The B&B facilites were excelent with the kitchen availible to use throughout the day.

Review 124:A little hard to find. But Sonia came immediately to find us at Gharsi church, and even called us to find out where we were.

Review 125:Central location, most areas accessible in 10 mins. Fantastic breakfast. Lovely free cakes. Great kitchen and use of fridge. Fans in room. Hospitable and helpful staff. Lovely pool and sitting area. Off the beaten track. Nearby supermarket. Snorkels, masks, flippers, towels, games, books available to borrow. Free wifi in kitchen/lounge area. Highly recommended. 9-9.5/10
