Reviews for Star Lodge Hotels
Review 1:the quality of some of the food could be better, chicken was not thoroughly cooked
Review 2:Great buffet included in your stay, lovely walk-in showers, very friendly helpful staff, different restaurants in the hotel building
Review 3:Separate Toilet and shower area, like those cheap hotel, ie ibis Only continental breakfast, no English hot breakfast
Review 4:New Hotel, only 18 months old
Review 5:- Very noisy rooms. Can literally hear the conversation of your neighbors. - Uncomfortable beds. - Staff watching YouTube movies at full volume instead of looking after patrons.
Review 6:Nice, but simple buffet breakfast. Hotel looks nice, modern and well kept.
Review 7:I found the beds quite soft and prefer beds that dont drift apart. Having said that, I would come back.
Review 8:loved the contemporary look and feel of the place. Friendly staff. Green environment, just a bit out of town.
Review 9:The staff were extremely rude. The hotel is outside of Utrecht and not IN Utrecht as advertised. The breakfast was bread and ham. Im a vegan and cant eat ham. That’s all that there was. Not worth the trouble
Review 10:The wifi was great and the room was clean
Review 11:The lack of staff after 9pm. You have to use a prepaid card to get a Coke or a beer. Some euros where lost on the card. They reimburse you if you don't forget.
Review 12:The horses in front of the window. There is a riding centre next door.
Review 13:Very friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. This is a budget hotel, but the standards and service certainly are not, I would like to give a special mention to Brian who is a full credit to the hotel.
Review 14:The location is a bit outside of city centre, although you can get to the central station by bus in 20 minutes. Water in the shower has no pressure and the temperature is difficult to control.
Review 15:Hotel employees are very friendly and helpful. My room and the whole hotel is clean. Flat screen TV in the room with good choice of channels. Bus stop very near hotel entrance. Ample space in the room makes it not too cramped.
Review 16:The bed was too soft and narrow. The walk-in shower - I generally dislike the shower as a part of the room, it's uncomfortable. No toiletries as advertised except a half-filled tube on the wall of the shower cubicle, all in one. No hair dryer and no soap.
Review 17:Nice ambience, quiet.
Review 18:The rooms are not supplied with things one would usually find in other hotels. No complimentary coffee, tea etc in the rooms (not even cups/a kettle). A bar fridge would also have been nice. I also found the room quite small.
Review 19:I enjoyed my stay here. Staff were friendly and helpful. The location is beautiful and rooms decorated in a modern way. Loved the energy saving strategies they apply.
Review 20:The hotel room is quite cold feeling, not very aesthetically pleasing. I've never heard such loud air ventilation and actually missed my alarm in the morning! There are also no toiletries aside from a multipurpose soap in the shower, and the cleaning product used in the room smelled strongly like men's cologne. Not awful, but I would never stay there again.
Review 21:Good base just outside the city centre - easy bus ride in and great for exploring beyond Utrecht by car. Modern décor and relaxed atmosphere. Helpful friendly staff. We had a great stay!
Review 22:Very nice and helpful staff! The possibility of loading a card with money for coffee, beer etc - modern and convenient. Cozy big rooms, and so affordable.
Review 23:Breakfast is poor. Not close to town. Have to pay parking, bed is too small
Review 24:Friendly staff, tidy room, strong wifi and nice horse racing school in the back garden
Review 25:There was just a glass with some drawings to separate the shower from the beds, so you could really see through. Fine for a couple, but just be careful if you are going with friends!
Review 26:Simple and pleasant hotel, with a bus stop very close by
Review 27:There was no flexibility to reduce breakfast payments as one traveller was seriously sick at the last minute and could travel. This is because we booked via Booking, next time I would go direct.
Review 28:Super Clean and modern facilities. Comfortable beds
Review 29:No bad experience, just a "wish" they had. There was no soap in the sink area, so you had to use the dispenser in the shower.
Review 30:The hotel check-in staff was so helpful and friendly! The hotel location is close to town, only a short bus ride away. A person could easily bike or have a nice long walk. Decent breakfast and great coffee!!
Review 31:Venting machine refreshements 15 days before expiration. Also there should be seperate towels and soap for face washing
Review 32:A beautiful country style hotel in a nice location not far from city centre (<10 min. by bus)
Review 33:Noisy neighbours returning up until 5 a.m. Reception staff apologetic but "unable to do anything". CCTV in corridor and intervention by staff would be a remedy. Safe did not work as it should, mattresses very soft. No hand - only bath - towels available.
Review 34:The location is good, out of city centre; nice setting. Bright, clear and plain interior. Room service even on Sundays. Price/performance ratio very reasonable by Dutch standards.
Review 35:Nothing.
Review 36:Onsite parking. It's just 10 min bus ride to the city centre. Staff is flexible for early check in. Quite and comfortable room. Breakfast is good.
Review 37:- reception closes at 12 pm so we were forced to go and sleep (were a group of four people and in the evening we used to play cards); only two towels in the room (gave us another two only by asking); during breakfast although it was a little bit poor you sometimes need to ask the lady to fill in the plates with tomatoes or cheese and so on; coffee and tea free only during breakfast - at 10 o'clock you should pay and it is expensive; you cannot drink in the evening a beer from the city in their lounge only buy from the hotel; no dryer in the room - you should ask for one; no daily clean of room - only by requirement; no free parking - it is 5 EUR/day;
Review 38:- nice hotel in the middle of a forest near Utrecht, clean and comfortable room
Review 39:Everything. A bright & airy place to stay. Welcoming, helpful receptionists. A virtually faultless travel hotel. Comfortable, clean, well designed rooms. Great breakfast & dining area.
Review 40:Fine for a short stay, but there wasn't much wardrobe space in the room for a longer visit.
Review 41:Great location if you have a car in Utrecht. Plenty parking on site and a short busride into town with frequent buses.
Review 42:nothing to report :)
Review 43:the rustic mordern looks and design in a green rustic setting just outside of Utrecht. I WANT those tables chairs shelves and sofas for my place:)
Review 44:There is an excellent restaurant next door, Loft 88, which is a great place to have dinner. Breakfast at the hotel was also really good, even though we attended breakfast in the last half hour it was available, everything was still there
Review 45:Although good shower equipment, the water temperature fluctuated a lot without warning. Needs either thermostat tap or change in the piping.
Review 46:New, clean, modern. Late checkin was no hassle at all and very friendly and efficient night staff. Very comfortable beds.
Review 47:Perhaps a bit expensive for a basic room but not far off the mark
Review 48:A nice quiet location only 10 min bus from main city, felt like we were in the country. Room was basic but adequate, staff were nice. Didn't expect a horse training facility but really enjoyed it - something a bit different. Had a great meal at Loft 88 next door.
Review 49:Good location to travel in and out of Utrecht town centre. Bus stop in front of hotel and the journey takes approx 10 mins. A well run no frills hotel with two independent restaurants on site.
Review 50:Rooms with open ahowers, opening out on to busy pony stable. No privacy basically. Poeny club and shouty instructors still going after 9pm. Ask for a room not overlooking pony stable. No tea making facilities in room, you go outside to foyer and pay.
Review 51:Staff very pleasant.
Review 52:You cannot eat, drink in the room - no cans and warning, that you can be asked out because of that. Electricity problems in neighboring rooms (unluckily in ours), because large tourist group moved in. It just cut down. Staff could not fix that till the morning when specialist should have come. We don't know if it was fixed as we left before that with all our devices uncharged.
Review 53:Smart TV , horse riding view from the room.
Review 54:The ventilation in my room made a subtle sound so there was never full silence. And to my surprise, no toiletteries (at all) except for the hair-body wash lotion in the shower. The location of the facility is perfect if you own a car, but I came by public transportation and the pedestrian lane coincides with the bike lane. Some cyclists might attempt to pass between you and your trolley :-)
Review 55:The design of the facility is indeed cool; it does look and feel like a stay at a ranch. The riding school outside completes the landscape... and smellscape! My room was very clean, the bed comfy though a little soft for my taste. Breakfast tasty and excellent Internet! Overall good value for money.
Review 56:This was our return visit & standards are if anything even better. Large well equipped room & overall a relaxing atmosphere. Although a small way out of the centre of town it is in a park setting & there are restaurants close by. Staff friendly & helpful. Breakfast excellent.
Review 57:The comments of other guests hint at the wheather conditions under which some rooms might be hot or noisy. We would like to add that the curtains are not coated, so if there is morning sun und you don't like it to wake you up, avoid the east side..
Review 58:We were lucky to receive a room as preferred, comments here on the site were quite helpful and precise. Good value for our rate of 75 Euro, if you agree to the style (some elements did remind us of a youth hostel).
Review 59:It is far from city center, you can take a bus, it takes 5-10 min to go but you have to wait for the bus and you pay 5.40 euro for go and come back. The pillows and bed were not comfortable but of course it depends.
Review 60:The breakfast was good, personel were nice.
Review 61:The hotel is in overall very nice. I thought it could be far from the city center, but it's not. It's just 7 minutes by bus! I loved the atmosphere. Very nice and calm, with threes and that 'country side' feeling. Nice breakfast.
Review 62:No air con in rooms - 36c on our visit so very hot. rooms have weird transparent glass wall divider between bed and shower - not private.
Review 63:main lounge/breakfast area attractive. Staff were good. Enjoyable restaurant near by. Hire bikes available.
Review 64:Would have preferred an upstairs room which would have made it feel more private when curtains open.
Review 65:Staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Hotel excellent and close to two good restaurants. Only sorry we didn't stay two nights so that we could explore Utrecht before travelling onwards.
Review 66:Too few towels! Too small (large) towels and one small for three people. The shower is litterally in the bedroom. You must have a car to reach anything. Utrecht center about ten minutes by car, but not easy to drive there unless you have a very small car. It is said that there is a playground but no playground in sight.
Review 67:The place has two restaurants next to it and a huge park. It is all very rustiqe and charming. Possible to charge electric car, but must have card to acsess electricity. Breakfast good and nice lounge.
Review 68:The hotel is located in a very quite and natural environment, and a forest is beside. 5 Euros parking everyday. Breakfast is delicious. Everything is find. Will stay again.
Review 69:Ground floor bedrooms with dark thick curtains with no privacy when open - needs something done rapidly. Only soap dispenser is in shower and nowhere near sink. Prices doubled for Tour but nothing extra on offer. Poor selection for breakfast.
Review 70:The hotel is stunning and in a great location with friendly and helpful staff. Very convenient for safe cycling into Utrecht and benefits from having two restaurants adjacent. Good modern decor and excellent outdoor seating.
Review 71:There were two restaurants on site independent of the hotel. Although the food was good, it was a little pricey. That was easily solved by eating before we came back.
Review 72:The contemporary design and decor in a good location; it felt much more upmarket, Rooms were a good size. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Utrecht is only a short bus ride away, with frequent services. Bike hire is reasonable.
Review 73:Car parking charges and a barrier system a bit excessive
Review 74:Good location, easy to find and two (one expensive) restaurants on site. Breakfast really good and everything spotless
Review 75:The only issue you need to be aware of is that the bathroom is separated from the rest of the room only by a glass wall which is fully transparent. The hotel bar has an interesting system of self service using the your key card but I had some difficulties using it and this resulted into the most expensive beer I had on my trip...
Review 76:Good hotel, easily accessible from the center, very quiet, good breakfast, friendly staff. Nice restaurant next to the hotel. Good value for money.
Review 77:No elevator a/c limited amenities
Review 78:Good breakfast, very competent staff. Nice setting with riding stable and restaurants adjacent. Clean and efficient
Review 79:The hotel is new (one and half years old ) so little work need to be done regarding the facilities
Review 80:Not far from city center using bikes Very friendly environment Very relaxing We wanted to book a privet horse riding lesson with the school next door to the hotel but they were fully booked the owner of the hotel tried to help us and we are very thankful to him
Review 81:We paid 90 Euro per double room. bath soap was empty, no extra facilites. Shower room is just next to the bed with not privacy. There is no refrigerator. We stay outside Utrecht(3Km), but we have to pay 5 Euro for a parking.
Review 82:Access to Utrecht is easy, breakfast is good Staff is helpful
Review 83:Noisy guests on Saturday night. Obviously no respect for others, no fault of hotel.
Review 84:Quiet, room at back of hotel. Perfect. Ordered indian take out on one night. Left money with hotel staff as we had to leave for a short time. So, so obliging.
Review 85:Except for a tour group yelling to each other in Chinese down and across the hall late into the night and as they departed at 6 am, and getting only two bath towels and no hand towel or bath mat, it was fine for our last minute change of itinerary.
Review 86:Enjoyed the breakfast, it's contemporary and appears new. The beds were comfortable. Thought it's located a bit out of the center, there's a transit stop just outside which has service to the center every 5 minutes. Moderate in price and room amenities, but good value for money.
Review 87:we found the shower area with the glass being the only separation from the rest of the room disconcerting but we're told they've had a lot of complaints about that so are doing a redesign
Review 88:the location was outside the downtown core but easily accessible by bus
Review 89:Very noisy - there is a continuos noise in the room (air-mashine, horse school in 20 meters, main-road in 100 meters, thin doors and walls). Smelly - if you open the window, you smell the horse, in the morning you can see the 'production' of them not far from your room. You have to pay 5 euro extra for parking by nights. Some parts of breakfast (fruits, cakes) they bring out after most of people had breakfast, at 9.
Review 90:Nice room with comfortable bad. Good breakfast.
Review 91:Strange room design with no shower privacy. No net curtains on ground floor bedroom windows.
Review 92:comfortable beds OK breakfast Easy access to town centre by bus from stop just outside the hotel
Review 93:the so-called "final price" on booking.com at the time of reservation, and the real final price in the confirmation e-mail are different. I had to pay city tax on top. This marketing trick is less cool. Choices for breakfast were hard limited (no dark bread, no hot beverage without caffeine, no fruits). My room did not provide a soap for washing. I had to live on shampoo from the wall for everything. The profit of this hotel is certainly optimized.
Review 94:The room was silent despite its location next to the highway.
Review 95:We stayed there 4 days and they didnt change not even one time our towels!the floor was dirty. The hotels windows are awful! They dont close corrrect and the room was always cold!!!Pour breakfast.
Review 96:Super location only a couple minutes with car from Utrecht centre!friendly staff
Review 97:Noise from rain on roof. Initially the room was only just warm enough, but this did improve during evening.
Review 98:Location, cleanliness & quality of breakfast. Parking facility.
Review 99:The Hotel is clean, modern and very confortable. From main station take bus lines: 50, 51, 52, 53, 74 or 251 up to Archimedeslaan station. This is station is in fron of the hotel!
Review 100:for two nights there were sounds like shooting (hunters) it occurred to be the feed from horses from the neighbour manege.
Review 101:nearby City, clean and comfortable
Review 102:Shower is part of the chamber, ventilation noise all the time, ceiling of the room and metal roof top are one and the same, when its raining you'll feel like in a tent, when there is a party going on in the club at neighbour's you'll have a lovely bum-bum-bum-bum coming in through the large non isolated surface all the evening and a good part of the night.
Review 103:friendly and helpful staff nice location good breakfast
Review 104:You need to have 2 keys so you can leave lights on and still leave the room and not get locked out.
Review 105:Great security as hall doors lock after you pass. Large quite rooms. Good included breakfast.
Review 106:Beds are slightly soft. You hear some noise from the floor.
Review 107:Nice modern style, clean, friendly personel. Close to a bus station getting you easily into the city center. Offered a late checkout on the "A state of trance" music festival lasting til 7.00 in the morning. That was great.
Review 108:I had room on the second floor and the roof seems to be quite thin - that night was raining outside and it was quite an issue for me, couldn't fell asleep fastly.
Review 109:I liked pretty much everything in this hotel - kind of minimalistic design everywhere; great feature with charging room card by a paying terminal - no need to ask personal for help.
Review 110:The room is suitable for young couples, i've travelled with a friend and the see-through shower without any door was kind of weird to say the least...
Review 111:The fireplace! Good breakfast, very friendly personnel.
Review 112:Footstep noise from the stairwell's concrete steps. My room was right off of the stairs.
Review 113:Located in a park about a mile from the center of Utrecht, this is a very modern, basic hotel. Very nice minimalist design, but nonetheless very comfortable room. There is a bus stop in front of the hotel to get into the center of town, driving in Utrecht is a bit crazy. There is a brasserie and also a casual restaurant with pizzas and other light fare, each within 100 meters of the hotel. The Vink Brasserie had a very nice menu and superb food. I just had coffee and cake at the cafe, Loft 88, but the atmosphere was very friendly. The breakfast buffet was very nice, with the usual meats, cheeses, breads, cereals, etc.
Review 114:No hand soap near the sink No hair dryer Twin beds in a room for one person, I'd rather have a one large bed
Review 115:Atmosphere of a ski resort challet There is a horse riding school outside Breakfast was basic yet good
Review 116:not directly in the city center, but you can take a bus to get there or walk appr. 30 minutes
Review 117:friendly staff, nice and clean rooms, very nice breakfast room
Review 118:Noise from the surrounding areas in the room (1st floor). Very nice footprints below the ceiling :) Restaurants were fully booked at my arrival - had to combine visit to old city with dinner. Very difficult to spot parking/hotel entry from the road. Driving a car in old Utrecht in the night is adrenalin adventure. Finding a parking there is awesome, if you're lucky to find it - be ready to pay 4.40 per hour. City center car adventure is prerequisite to sleep well.
Review 119:The staff is extremely kind and helpful. Pretty recent and modern hotel. Parking is only 5 euro per night. Two restaurants around the corner +1 in Midland hotel. + horse riding facilities around another corner.
Review 120:Wi-Fi is excellent, but there is no phone in the room. If you don't have a mobile, you might feel a little isolated. Hotel had booked a party one night with loud music continuing into the night. The sound really carried due to the concrete floors; when questioned about it the staff just said 'it will be over at 1:00 am'. This made me love the hotel a bit less.
Review 121:This is a beautiful modern hotel with a fresh airy feeling throughout. Parkland setting really does make it feel like a 'lodge'. Generous continental breakfast buffet, and unique self-serve bar is located the lounge for an evening drink. Loved falling asleep to the sound of gentle rain on the sloped roof. Amenities are somewhat sparse: there is a single soap/shampoo dispenser in the shower. No tissues, coffee/tea station, clock radio, etc. But as an 'eco-friendly' property this is fine by me; just bring what you need.
Review 122:Bit far out from Utrecht for someone without car (did not try public transport). No in house dinner (though good restaurant close by)
Review 123:Room and overall decor
Review 124:Very quiet, set well back from the road and surrounded by forest and parkland. Excellent buffet breakfast. Very friendly Bistro next door for dinner. Frequent bus service to centre of Utrecht.
Review 125:Booking.com map did not show the location; My room key did first provide access to a different room (which was taken). For breakfast no fruits are served
Review 126:Location/Reachability Room size/furniture
Review 127:Not much choice at breakfast compared to most (business) hotels. Water in shower most of the time is not very warm.
Review 128:Lobby of the hotel looks nice, well designed. It's very quiet at night.
Review 129:The entrance to the hotel from the street is very small and difficult to spot for people not known to the location. We missed it the first time an had to take a 4km detour! We taped rose wine at 'the bar' and paid by card. The payment did not work right away and the rose wine tasted awfully. Breakfast is rather basic. Not enough towels, to use the soap in shower you had to push very hard.
Review 130:Modern, nice warm wood design, next to a nice park, good bus connection, quite.
Review 131:nothing , everything was okay
Review 132:quick check in , clean , modern bus will take you to the centrum for 2.5 euros in not even 10 minutes , it's about 3 kms from the city center. Parking at the hotel 5 euro for 24 hours
Review 133:1. New, modern building. Very clean. Nice interior decorations. I had a room on the first floor, attic, with a very high ceiling 2. Included buffet breakfast, good variety and quality 3. Not so far from the city center and Central Station. Could reach them by bus (no 50 to 53), in 10-20 mins
Review 134:I could hear every person coming back to their room at night after clubbing (it was loud). I also had trouble sleeping because of the light coming off the sensors on the touch lamps, I ended up throwing clothes over the lights and wearing ear plugs on the second night.
Review 135:Hotel was a close walk to the city centre, the decor was very nice and breakfast was good. Loft 88 (restaurant beside the hotel) was delicious and not too expensive.
Review 136:The bathroom shower screen does not afford any privacy if you are sharing the room. the bedrooms are rather small.
Review 137:The hotel is new and well designed with modern rooms and facilities. A little out of the city but easy reachable by plentiful public transport or bike hire. Nice location to relax while working on the road.
