Reviews for Mary K Hotel

Review 1:Very steep staircase may be a problem for some.

Review 2:Our room was clean, quiet and large with a balcony. Hotel is located on canal and is a short walk from train station and center of Utrecht (Dom tower, canal boat tours, shopping, restaurants).

Review 3:Great location, great place. I had also emailed over my arrival time as requested, which was a lot earlier than the advertised check in time. As a result my room was ready for me when I arrived at 11am, very pleased! Great service Mary K!

Review 4:Really lovely hotel, fantastic attention to detail, very kind and helpful staff, every effort to be environmentally friendly, made a truly wonderful stay for my partner and I. We had a lovely balcony as well.

Review 5:This a small, unique boutique hotel with the most friendly and service minded staff I have ever experineced in a hotel. The rooms are all themed and decorated differently and the entire concept is ecologically focused. -Such a wonderful experience and an absolutely fabulous place to stay!

Review 6:just really minor things: it would have been nice to be able to turn the lights on and off individually in the different sections of the room to make it cozier and save electricity (bathroom was separate of course); also, the part of the room that was designated for the suitcases was barely lit, sometimes it was hard to find things; decorative but a little impractical nightstands

Review 7:very nice and large room, friendly staff, cozy bed and pillows, a door that opened to the garden so we could air the room, great amenities (nice flowers for welcoming in the room, luxury toiletries, coffee+tea complimentary with a good selection of glasses and cups); the hotel is situated perfectly in a quiet location just a few minutes walk from the inner city, many restaurants and shops nearby

Review 8:All the little thoughtful gestures (eg., hand written welcome note in room) plus the in-room Nespresso and kettle tea. Very "green" & environmental friendly, the only possible addition would be a small (very small) jar of honey for the tea. Very helpful hotel staff. The design and architecture was nice and the room large. Nice view over the canal. Great location for walks and close to a sports center which I will try out the next time.

Review 9:Great location by the canal and close to all the main attractions in Utrecht, we received a very warm welcome on arrival and helpful suggestions during our stay. Our light and comfortable room came with a terrace and the hotel's homely feel, healthy breakfasts and eco ethos were more plus points for us.

Review 10:The parking is a 6 minute walk away and you cannot even stop outside the hotel. The road works in the centre of town make it impossible to get to the hotel by car. The interior steps to the rooms are very steep and dangerous for older people. The rooms are adequate but are expensive in my view.

Review 11:The only thing is the bathroom door. Its made like a sliding door and there are small hall between the wall and the door (so you can not close it completely). This is was a little bit strange. But not a big problem at all, because we loved the place and the stuff so much!

Review 12:We loved to stay there, cause Mary K is a very special hotel. We got a welcome card in our room with our names and some wishes. We also loved that you can chose a room in the hotel and there are no same rooms. Every room has a meaning, like one is garden, another one is a worship for the painter. We stayed at "sweet dreams" room and we had a bog balcony and very close nice room with a huge soft bed.

Review 13:Lots of steep stairs, ok once you got used to them.

Review 14:Big rooms with lots of natural light, very comfortable bed. Huge bathtub, staff very friendly and helpful. Very good breakfast, egg cooked just how you like it, nice crisp pastries, with good (seemingly) home made preserves.

Review 15:The royal suite wash hand basin was sited outside of the bathroom, so not the best for hand hygiene (although the place was scrupulously clean).

Review 16:Owners took the time to find out our interests, provided a couple of maps and matched up what we wanted to explore in the local area. Booking, early arrival and departure processwas completed with ease. Very friendly, spotlessly clean. Modern very comfortable room with some 'Dutch' tiling to add to the interest. Great location - easy walk to pretty much everything of interest to us.

Review 17:We loved everything about our room: very comfortable bed, spacious bathroom with nice soaps, interesting decoration and furniture, plus a deck outside. We loved the friendly helpful staff who gave us good tidbits about Utrecht. It's a beautiful quiet location along the old canal, but convenient to many sites.

Review 18:Nothing.

Review 19:The hotel was very clean. The room was spacious with a comfortable bed and small deck. Staff was very helpful and accommodating. The location was also very good.

Review 20:Breakfast was optional. We went for the biggest option, which we felt was maybe a bit expensive (we didn't want to spend a lot of time looking for breakfast spots), however that remains the client's choice.

Review 21:This was our best night of 6 different hotels during our trip in Europe. Comparatively large room and bathroom. Even had a patio for a late evening coffee, although the rain earlier made everything wet.

Review 22:Staff is very helpful, kind and shows hospitality to let me feel at home. The room I stayed is decorated in IKEA style which is very cozy & lovely( ´▽` )ノ

Review 23:The one thing that was a little bit difficult is the steep stairs to my room. The staff was great and helpfull.

Review 24:The room was beautiful and clean. The view was amazing. The staff was great and helpfull and it was located in the center.

Review 25:Wonderful hotel, but should note that this is a historic building with steep stairs if you have an upstairs room. But ground floor rooms are available

Review 26:This hotel was a real treat. A beautiful, clean hotel with great character. Great central location and the staff was so helpful. I would stay here again in a second.

Review 27:It's probably just to do with my own habit that I would like to throw myslef into the bed at the end of busy day, but the hard and thick bed frame prevent me to do that. And the variation of the breakfast could be improved as well.

Review 28:Very nice reception desk gave me a thorough indroduction of the nearby area, advised good and 'avoid' restaurants. The room is cosy and clean. The modern and casual design makes me feel like in home rather than in a hotel room. There is a hand written welcome note with my name on it.

Review 29:Staff is super friendly and helpful here. The design, room and furniture, everything is so lovely that I would definitely like to visit this hotel again :)

Review 30:Scary stairs but the staff always helps with luggage. No buffet breakfast but the choice of pricey menus. Expensive public parking is a 5 minutes away.

Review 31:Unique decoration. Very nice and very helpful staff. Excellent location on Oude channel near to city center, shops and restaurants.

Review 32:We did have a bit of difficulty getting in and out of the bed which required the use of a small set of steps - not easy if you need to use the bathroom in the night! (Room 3)

Review 33:The location was excellent; the hotel is beautifully designed - interesting decor throughout and the staff were lovely and accommodating.

Review 34:none

Review 35:the location is perfect, the staff great & the breakfast for the price is just awesome The overall experience is just soooo nice like in a private Dutch home with a smile everywhere. We loved it would go again today !!!!

Review 36:All the staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was clean, spacious, very comfortable with thoughtful touches (fresh flowers, personalised welcome note).

Review 37:The stairs are so steep and dangerous. But we did not have to carry thr luggages.

Review 38:Thr shower is really hot and high pressure. Location is the high point.

Review 41:Windows of rooms on the canal side do not open and can have very poor air. The air conditioning does not function nearly as well as advertised. Hotel staff and owner were defensive, rather than accommodating, on both issues.

Review 42:the window did not open, would have been nice to have some fresh air as the weather was nice

Review 43:location, decoration, hair products, bed linen, it was very clean, very charming, excellent breakfast, very calm, nice view of the canal, no noise in general

Review 44:I can't find anything to fault with this hotel.

Review 45:This hotel is a little quirky, with individually themed rooms, we were required to leave a piece of art (canvas and materials provided). Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Helpful in recommending places to go and where to eat and not eat. Our room had a good outlook at the back with a private deck to sit out on.

Review 46:Location on the canal front. Well kept building. Very clean and spacious public areas and the room was a good size too. Staff very attentive and friendly. Excellent value for money accommodation.

Review 47:A delightful room (the garden room) with very friendly, helpful hosts. The location was perfect in the Utrecht Centrim. Close to restaurants, sights and an easy walk to the Central Station.

Review 48:Utrecht's cobbles are not the easiest to pull a wheelie suitcase over, but add to the ambience.

Review 49:Delightfully quirky decor, large, modern bedroom in beautifully restored old house, warm, helpful welcome, quiet location, balcony. Interesting breakfast, prepared while you wait. Altogether a real pleasure.

Review 50:Beautiful room with attention to detail. Comfortable bed and luxurious bathroom with consideration of environmental impact. Warm and helpful staff with sense of humour.

Review 51:Perfect location, only a short walk to all the wonders of Utrecht. They also provided me a map and highlighted areas that would be of interest to me. Thumbs Up.

Review 52:We would highly recommend the Mary K hotel. Everything you need, very clean, Eco products, art on the walls, great people, a warm and friendly welcome, nothing too much trouble, they make a real effort to meet all your needs. We were hugely impressed. We had been deciding between Karel V or Mary K and are so glad we picked Mary K. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 53:I stayed in the Bedstead room where bed is organised so that it is awkward to reach. But the mattress was fine - no problems with it. My colleague stayed in another room where the bed had no this problem. So this relates only to one room.

Review 54:Staff is GREAT. Nespresso maschines in the rooms!!! Location.

Review 55:Wonderful atmosphere in this charming hotel. The staff is great, the room had lots of character and the bed was great. We loved the fact that the hotel provides you with a free DVDs in case you want to kick back in the room with a movie.

Review 56:Personnel was very kind and helpful! The hotel was very nice and decorated with style! Breakfast was really tasty, prepared at the moment, everything fresh! Everything simply perfect!

Review 57:there is no option to opening the windows. After a few days you feel like you're suffocating

Review 58:the rooms were spacious, modern and extravagant. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was great

Review 59:Stairs were steep, if you have lots of luggage it might be a problem. No laundry facilities.

Review 60:Really like this place. It felt like a home rather than a hotel. My Room (Room 7) was huge! It had a great shower and bath and was very very quiet! The bed was massive and it was just lovely to come back to after work. The breakfast was really nice, and the staff were very very friendly! Will stay again :)

Review 61:There are very steep stairs up to the bedrooms on the 1st and 2 nd floors but staff help with luggage and there are 2 ground floor rooms!

Review 62:Even a small room was bright, full of character, with a large terrace. Every room is individual. All facilities provided. Only 9 rooms in all. Front door key provided. Hotel in a traditional period house overlooking the canal. Central but off the tourist trail. lots of light, art on the walls. staff very friendly. Utrecht is great. We are already planning to return next year with another couple.

Review 63:You must be able to climb steep stairs, but I didn't mind at all!!

Review 64:The liked the personal touch to the room, the nespresso machine and the fab toiletries. My room had a spaceous terrace, too.

Review 65:it was really annoying to hear a church bell ringing every 15 minutes even at night. This is not a problem of the hotel but still it cause huge discomfort in our sleep. Some people might not notice it even.. it is a light sound but i was probably over sensitive to noise!

Review 66:friendly staff, clean rooms, coffee and tea are offered in the reception, good value for money if we consider the location

Review 67:The nearest car park whilst good and safe was a bit of a trek for oldies with too much luggage

Review 68:The welcome and helpfullness of the staff,location- very near the centre yet quiet,a comfortable room with good beds

Review 69:We had a lovely stay at the Mary K Hotel in Utrecht and stayed in "The Greenhouse" on the ground floor. The staff were all very helpful and we received a great level of service. The room was very spacious and opened out into the garden where there were chairs and a table to enjoy the late afternoon sun. The location is ideal being just a few minutes walk to the historic centre and only about 10 minutes from the main railway station with frequent connections to Schiphol Airport. Lovely breakfasts too !!

Review 70:The room looked lovely but was impractical. The bath was adjacent to the bed head, the raised bowl sink rested on a polished table which became wet when in use.No towel rail near bath or basin. The breakfast was not generous unlimited coffee came in a very small pot. The waiter found it hard to plug in the toaster and had to use the microwave in a guest's room. We would expect free bottled water in a room in such an expensive hotel.

Review 71:Location and view, size of room. Staff were helpful with luggage and requests.

Review 72:Windows to bedroom can't open due to heritage design aspects.

Review 73:Staff very personal and supportive. Old world charm with heritage overlay, good location near the old city centre and fronting a main canal, excellent coffee facilities in room, complimentary wifi, good range of English speaking tv channels.

Review 74:One small piece of constructive feedback: include the breakfast in the price?

Review 75:Mary K is located on a canal, just a few minutes away from the tower and all the main restaurants. Staff are friendly and welcoming. The rooms have style and character, are furnished with a lot of attention to detail - the fresh flowers and the personalised welcoming note was a particularly nice touch - and are extremely quiet. And the check-out time - 12 pm - is very reasonable indeed! Just perfect to make our short stay in Utrecht even more memorable: thank you, Mary K!

Review 76:All lights were switching on at the same time. Everything else was superb.

Review 77:I stayed in the green room which really inspired me and kept me happy during a business trip. The staff is very kind and the location superb.

Review 78:I had to do some work while there, and the room did not have a work desk or suitable chair. Otherwise room was lovely. The beautiful old building has alot of character but the stairs are narrow and steep and there is no lift.

Review 79:Enjoyed the friendliness and helpful attitudes of all the staff and location was great - could walk to old city centre within miniutes. Bus stops also close by for travelling to the University. The room was spacious by European standards and WiFi available in the room (not just in a public area as in many other hotels). Decor was lovely.

Review 80:It's not really a hotel as it does not do lunch or dinner - it's a high quality B&B.

Review 81:Friendly staff. Nice large room, quiet (at back), comfortable bed. Good quality/value "Frenchie" breakfast.

Review 82:In my room, there were no shelves or drawers for clothes, only hangers. Not very convenient. Also, I often banged my head into the rafters!

Review 83:I liked the cozy, ‘homelike’ atmosphere and the young nice staff. Also, the house was beautiful, and the breakfast great.

Review 84:Location , room , staff , facilities

Review 85:Nice boutique hotel. Friendly staff & very central.

Review 86:Bed was a little tricky to get in and out of.
