Reviews for Lilac City Motor Inn & Steakhouse
Review 1:The only thing that was disappointing was the fact that there was no raisin bread or skim milk offered in the buffet breakfast included in the tariff.... Diabetics often rely on raisin bread as an option for breakfast... ...on approaching a staff member to ask for these items... was told that skim milk not available as their suppliers had not returned from Xmas / New year.... this was 8th January..... and that raisin bread was not provided and when mentioning the diabetes need I was asked could I not choose the fruit?... the fruit was eaten in a small quantity on the cereal.... but the staff member clearly had no concept of diabetes needs as it about a balance of Carbs , protein and fruit at each meal... If skim milk and raisin bread were available this would be a suitable mixture of breakfast needs for diabetics...
Review 2:The motel room was very clean and had everything we needed. Price was good value for money
Review 3:Room was disgusting, very old and tired but also absolutely filthy. Carpets had huge stains and the bathroom was an absolute disgrace. Mould everywhere on ceiling and disgusting black mould all around shower. Would not stay there again or recommend to anyone else.
Review 4:Air con worked Staff where friendly
Review 5:The room was very stuffy, it did not have freshness to it. We had to open windows to have fresh air. Did not like blankets on the bed, how do I know they were clean. I would prefer dunnos & White for that matter so I can see that they are clean. Toilet was not very clean, not very good especially when travelling with kids
Review 6:Staff were friendly
Review 7:No privacy in our own room. Cleaners walking in on us twice whilst we were dressing. No 'Do not disturb sign No chain on the door The towels were so thin that my husband was trying to dry his back when his ripped. Couldn't connect to wifi When I spoke to the lady on desk at check out and told her of our ordeal she kind of giggled and said it was her fault as she had placed us as checked out even though we still had one more day to go and said 'I'm sorry but I'm just a trainee'. So our stay there was nothing but very stressful
Review 8:The restturaunt was good
Review 9:unfortunately the Steakhouse did not deliver to expectations/as advertised.
Review 10:Centrally located, friendly staff, value for money, breakfast included.
Review 11:So many things!! Too many cheapskate shortcuts and appalling management practices for a Golden Chain motel. TV had to be replaced, took ages but still no Foxtel as per advert. Receptionist had to ask permission to do this from a man lying on a mattress patting a dog in a room near reception in view of arriving guests. Room phone was unplugged and the Test and Tag label showed an expiry date of December 2013. We were told we had to plug it in if we wanted to use it - really. All electrical items in the room had the same expired test tags. Steakhouse for dinner was really embarrassing for the staff. They tried their best but almost everything was terrible. The steak was the worst thing and they call themselves a Steakhouse. Cheap grizzly average steak passed off as an eye fillet. Chef did his best which we appreciated but it was not eye fillet. "Free" WIFI - after using the password we were then required to have authentication and another user name and password as well. Couldn't be bothered with the hassle - which I reckon they were banking on. Dried bloodspots in the shower and on the bathroom door jamb. Shower base was slimy - not clean at all. Plus guests in a room along from us had a dog in their room. The walkway and stairs up to our room had bird droppings and were very dirty. We had to go back to reception again to get milk which reception had forgotten to give us. This motel management is just looking to fill up occupancy and not care less about their guests. I've stayed in many country motels when travelling and this one is BY FAR the worst ever. Never again.
Review 12:Not much. Perhaps the continental breakfast was average.
Review 13:Lipstick still on drinking glass, TV controller won the filthiest award after years of competition
Review 14:Cheerful, business-like welcome, comfortable bed and good A/C controls
Review 15:The room, had a yuk smell, there were stains and holes in the carpet we had dirty crockery and cutlery at the restaurant.i could only eat 2/3 of my 300g steak the fat and cartilage was terrible.
Review 16:Nothing
Review 17:Free Wi-fi Restaurant had entree size meals which was great after all day travelling. Bed was comfy. Was one of the most expensive places we stayed on our holiday our 4 star in Melbourne was way cheaper. The en-suite was interesting as the hand basin was in the room, and when having a shower was attacked by the shower curtain. For one night though it was comfortable and pleasant.
Review 18:The room was basic and needed a bit of sprucing up - lots of chipped paint and scuffed walls. The bathroom was well used but clean with toiletries. We found a (live) beetle in the bed, but not too worried as its Australia after all so we thought we got away lightly! The "complimentary" breakfast was a bit of a disaster - cheap food and, unbelievably, a large sign next to the bread advising "No butter available" which we thought rather odd.
Review 19:We did not like anything particularly. The location was OK for a stop in transit to more interesting places though.
Review 20:Cleanliness, and fact that breakfast was closed even 30min past its opening time! Reception was also closed and no one was contactable at 7:30am. There were a few people waiting and even a delivery driver arrived and couldn't contact anyone????
Review 21:Location and car park are great large enough for a car and trailer, there is also a restaurant attached which serves good meals. Beds in our room were comfortable even though the room looked very tired!
Review 22:Check out was 10am, had 2 knocks on door at 920am then 945am, guess they wanted to clean room but we were still in bed at 920am.
Review 23:Close to everything, good service
Review 24:Unfortunately for us the actual steak house was closed because of the holidays.
Review 25:The girls were awesome and really looked after us. Always a happy, no problem, attitude. Very socialable
Review 26:We were next to a man who was smoking out the front of his room which was right next to our door! Didn't like that much as we don't smoke and have 2 young children.
Review 27:We only stayed 1 night. The stay was comfortable. The continental breakfast was really good.
Review 28:The main window was locked. Sewerage smell coming from bathroom. Air conditioner full of dust with check filter light flashing. Dead bugs on window ledges & in light fixtures. Stained carpets & bathroom sink doubles as kitchen sink.
Review 29:The sheets were clean
Review 30:Sheets on bed had not been washed Large amount of hair and dirt from last people that stayed Had to sleep on top of bed
Review 31:Good restaurant located on site
Review 32:room was not cleaned from previous occupants and we had to wait while it was cleaned which was very unfortunate after a long days drive from Melbourne. The staff did not even know. The room was cleaned but overall needed a big spring clean as is very dusty and borderline clean behind beds etc.
Review 33:friendly staff
Review 34:We checked in and by the time we were ready for bed we pulled back the sheet to find blood stains everywhere and filthy marks and when we called reception to help us get some clean sheets put on they didn't answer.it took us two hours to hunt someone down to get clean sheets. Next morning refused a refund and manager said it wasn't their problem because they arnt the owner!! Terrible.
Review 35:The convenience of the location
Review 36:Restaurant closed, sheet on pull away bed dirty, upstairs room when we have young children wasn't ideal, breakfast hopeless with no butter and no one serving us. Would have to be one of the worst places I've ever stayed
Review 37:Not much to like
Review 38:The room smelt Too many dogs is probably why room smelt Air con smelt when turned on Not much too like at all would not recommend too far from town GOING TO BUY A CARAVAN
Review 39:good shower plenty of pressure
Review 40:I didnt like a guy in a white bmw who parked near room no. 1 and made it difficult for parking close to the room as I had luggage. He was very rude.
Review 41:I like the rooms and the breakfast included is very nice. Great value. Always lovely clean rooms.
Review 42:No steak house on a Sunday which meant more driving and maccas after a long days drive and too much take away.
Review 43:Pet friendly. Free breakfast. Free wi fi. Austar.
Review 44:Room and bathroom very out dated and old. Bathroom needed a good scrub. Water didn't stay in shower cause just having a curtain and not much floor lip to stop it.Carpet had a big stain on it as you walked in. Bed very hard.
Review 45:It was great at their Restaurant food lovely and they provided breakfast free which was good. All right for a one night stay.
Review 46:Carefully watch the billing, no great problem but nearly billed twice.
Review 47:A great country Motel, with a great steak dinner, what more could you ask for :-)
Review 48:It was cramped & poorly set out. All guests had to go through main bedroom to bathroom. Looked like it was designed to be a double room with an ensuite but had bunk and extra bed added to living space. The photos do not give an accurate representation of the place. The bunks also squeaked noisily.
Review 49:The place was clean & the beds comfortable.
Review 50:Generally the place needs some upgrading and a good coat of paint.shower was not clean. There is better choice in Goulburn for $139!(the cost of our upgraded room)
Review 51:The bed was comfortable so we had a good night s sleep. We upgraded to a larger room which was more comfortable.
Review 52:2 small aphid type Bugs on top of bed, freezer part didn't work in fridge & guests allowed to smoke outside rooms need an area away from room entries
Review 53:Hot showers room tidy
Review 54:The room was small, dilapidated and dirty. exhaust fan not just not working, but cable severed. Bathroom door not hung properly so didn't close. A hovel.
Review 55:Was located reasonably close to town centre. Breakfast included.
Review 56:The room which was number 10 was nothing like shown on internet. It Needs a lot of work done to it. The chairs were so shabby & soiled didn't want to sit on them. the bathroom sliding day wouldn't slide the overall apperence of room was awful. A coat of paint would help it look much better especially the doors
Review 57:Resturant. The food was lovely. The bed was comfortable
Review 58:The shower recess was very small and although it appeared clean, more attention should be paid to the floor and particularly the corners of the room. When we wiped up the water left after the shower the cloth was quite dirty.
Review 59:The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Free breakfast was well set out and great for travellers.
Review 60:The rooms were old and tired, and given the availability of much cheaper motels in Goulburn, I expected more.
Review 61:The staff were helpful and friendly. No fault with any staff, or the location.
Review 62:Had to leave at 6 am so couldn't get breakfast. Room was small and old looking. Was hoping for something a bit more upmarket for the price. Didn't like the old, thin and greyish towels. Not as good as other three star motels we've stayed at.
Review 63:Accommodated our request for ground floor room. Good parking for car and trailer.(but couldn't get out until a customer moved their car) Bed was comfortable.
Review 64:Disgusting shower that hadn't been cleaned for weeks, black mould. Ruined the stay totally. Wine glasses with lipstick still on them. Want my money back to be honest.
Review 65:Quiet location
Review 66:The bed was a bit uncomfortable, very stiff mattress and pillows. Also the wifi was very slow, if you could even get it to connect.
Review 67:The Steakhouse was well priced and very good food, the bathrooms were a great size and the free breakfast was a huge plus.
Review 68:Can't think of any thing
Review 69:I was very very happy with the staff in particular! I found them all to be friendly and very helpful. Also I Rubin or stay was great value for money. :-D :-D
Review 70:we had numerous other guests wake us up at 5AM with loud stomping or coughing. it was highly inconvenient as we needed a good nights rest for the 6 nights we were staying there. we were also forced to park on the street on the saturday night due to caravans parking over 2 spaces in the carpark and not allowing room for other cars.
Review 71:the price.
Review 72:It is a little hard to locate. Not well signposted. Someone insists on parking a utility with a big sign on the back indicating there is an antiques store around the corner. Because of a median strip you can only approach the driveway from one direction (not the stupid boy band) and trees and this vehicle block your view of the entrance. I guess once you know about it this truck actually shows where the entrance is. Just aim for the antiques sign.
Review 73:This is a neat and comfortable establishment. Rooms are smallish but not claustrophobic. It is not modern but everything was clean and functioning. I think there is an antiques store around the corner too.
Review 74:I had booked a room for $109.00 for an overnight stay for Sat 10 Oct 2015. I had to give my credit card number to reserve the room. I arrived at 8.00 pm and was given a room on the ground floor, with a sliding window that did not have a locking mechanism. The manager told me that the window had been in that condition for the two years that she had been working there. She said the owner was aware of the problem and had not fixed it. She told me I could look for other accommodation somewhere else. After some discussion, she offered me another room for $119.00. Very poor customer relations.
Review 75:We booked and arrived at the last moment. Our 3rd and last day on the road rushing to get home. The room was clean and comfortable and finding a restaurant on the same site with a great meal very much suited two weary travellers.
Review 76:An extremely small room with an even smaller bathroom, the washbasin being in the bedroom next to a microwave. Old, worn blankets that were well past their use by date.
Review 77:Nothing enjoyed my stay!
Review 78:The free continental breakfast was a real plus. Also the Steakhouse Restaurant we ate at the first night and the steak was best I've had in a long time yum. The fact we can take our pet dog with us was a powerful reason we chose Lilac City and we will be staying there again whenever we are in Goulburn. Clean comfortable and all the facilities you need and friendly staff perfect.
Review 79:bathroom/shower is a bit small; also not much room on bench top; some stains on basin; can smell people smoking outside
Review 80:good location, include continental breakfast, staff friendly at the cafe
Review 81:Not exactly the hotel but the restaurant. I ordered a $39 steak and only get something burned and I cannot finish it, while the pan-faced waitress just commented "ok". It is not ok!
Review 82:Friendly staff in hotel and good position.
Review 83:Nothing I seen
Review 84:Late check in, they set the heater and had reciept and key in the room for me. 1 of the few places around that have a complimentary breakfast. And are pet friendly too. Rooms were clean and a good supply of coffee, tea & sugar.
Review 85:I went to the RSL for dinner. Not great. Should have used the Lilac restaurant. Cheaper and quality better.
Review 86:Great value for money. Clean, quiet and comfortable with a continental breakfast for free.
Review 87:The Inn is located where the road is divided by a median strip. Had to drive blocks out of the way to get around on the right side of the road to enter the carpark. The room stunk of dirty socks. Had to get air freshener from reception as house keeping didn't have any, which only masked the smell for a short while. Paid for the 'Large Queen Room', the room was 4 normal walking paces across (and I'm 5'2). Photo associated with the room on the website included a lounge, a large table and a decent sized bathroom. This room lacked all of the above. Holes and cracks in the walls and paint chipped off the main door and other painted surfaces in the room, the carpet was stained, the curtains didn't block the light out. The free WiFi connected but didn't work at all. The satellite TV channels were either not working or the reception was so poor you couldn't watch them. The noise from other guests early in the morning, including children bouncing balls and yelling, was incredibly loud.
Review 88:Free breakfast was great.
Review 89:The bottom bed sheets were dirty i.e. they werent changed from the occupants before us and the towels were threadbare so it definitely requires an upgrade. The owner at the desk barely grunted when I paid for the hot breakfast and had absolutely NO SOCIAL skills.
Review 90:The lady that was serving the continental breakfast was very lovely. The breakfast hot and cold was excellent quality. The location was convenient.
Review 91:The walls are pretty thin, so if you want an early night this could be an issue.
Review 92:Very clean, and the staff were great. The restaurant did a great steak.
Review 93:I booked the queen room but on our 4 previous stays must have stayed in the deluxe queen. What a difference couldn't believe how small the ensuite was.Such a small shower and the water splashed over the floor. What a difference $10 makes. Will pay the extra next time.
Review 94:The meal and service at the Steakhouse was brilliant as usual. . Great menu choice and licenced too. I definitely recommend this restaurant. We left before breakfast but usually good .
Review 95:I rang the day of my checkin to say I would be late. I was told no problem you are in room 26 I know it was 26 as I wrote it down I was told you door will be open just walkin and collect the key we arrived on a cold night at 930 pm from Sydney and someone was in room 26 he open the door half dressed and clearly it was his room not mine. I rang the phone number a couple of times then I found the night bell the mistake was sorted and I was in room 27 ? I would suggest a better way to let late arriving guests in ?
Review 96:Room and price
Review 97:Nothing. A great overnight stop
Review 98:Room was comfortable and heater worked well. Restaurant was excellent. Amazing steaks and ribs!!! Waitress was really friendly . Great country hospitality
Review 99:I only needed a warm bed for the night. Yhere were no negatives.
Review 100:I arrived late but the lights were on and the room heated. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable.
Review 101:For some reason the showers were both not up to scratch. not terrible, just not good enough.
Review 102:They gave us a quiet room on ground level. The larger queen room was far easier for us than the smaller one was earlier in the year. Staff were all interested and helpful. Free light buffet breakfast and the evening meal in the Steak house was well worth the money. They even waived the cost of my dessert as they said it took too long to be provided after I'd ordered. I hadn't complained, nor would have.
Review 103:Decided to have dinner at restaurant. When leaving, after going through the door I had an unpleasant fall down the next step which is not easily seen at night. My foot is swollen, have bruises in several places and a sore shoulder. I told the staff who was not at all concerned. I explained an extra light or rail was needed for safety and security.
Review 104:The location to stop at Goulburn helped me be at a funeral in Mittagong the next morning.
Review 105:Room number 1 smelt really bad, i think it was the drains. We actually had to plug up the basin hole :/ I liked the bed but my husband didn't. Foxtel quality was very poor, fuzzy picture. Didn't like the basin being outside the bathroom. Shower curtain was annoying.
Review 106:loved the breakfast included in price, the Steakhouse was fantastic, great value for money, left feeling very full! Free WIFI was great.
Review 107:Very cheap fittings, very strange set up with basin in bedroom and toilet/shower in a tiny room with no heat so icy cold in morning, wi fi almost non existent. Very expensive for the quality of accommodation.
Review 108:Not much
Review 109:the mattress could have been softer. Some noise came through from other rooms and some noise from outside. There was a big bang/crash early in the morning- not sure what it was.
Review 110:The steak house, the staff. And very good value for money.
Review 111:It was disappointed that the steak restaurant was not open on Sunday! I booked it because of the name! It was raining and a reasonable trip into Goulburn for dinner!
Review 112:This was a motel to stop and stay bit hard to get into as you had to go around a large block coming from Sydney!
Review 113:Bathroom very tired looking, could do with refreshing/update. Shower rose needs replacing, would not stay in position, cleaners should be aware of this. Extensive garden beds let down by lack of maintenance.
Review 114:Restaurant on site with attentive service, free wi fi & breakfast included, booking requests catered for, lovely reception staff
Review 115:The fact the bathroom didn't have a sink in the bathroom and we had to use the sink that was outside the bathroom to wash our hands.
Review 116:The fact I can bring my small - house trained dog. Great air conditioner to warm our room and comfortable bed. No bad smells in the motel room for a motel that allows pets.
Review 117:The unit reeked of bleach which was very unpleasant. Also the people upstairs or next room were up before dawn and very noisy...you get that a lot...rude people, no fault of the motel though.
Review 118:The bed was great as was the shower and very friendly service at check in.
Review 119:Not a bad experience but unattractive building in need of a facelift - very small, cramped shower/bathroom area - hated seeing all the cigarette butts outside rooms
Review 120:called staff the evening before we arrived which was going to be very late - very helpful - light left on in our room and the heating on for us.
Review 121:Hard Bed! These are always hit and miss in Motels.
Review 122:Quick Check In. Restaurant Staff very friendly and helpful! Emails both before and after your stay to ensure you were happy! Pet Friendly! That was the real bonus!
Review 123:Its cold in goulburn but nothing to do with the hotel
Review 124:Nice and easy location with good staff. Been there multiple times and it has always been good and honestly best value in area, with the steakhouE connected to hotel makes a good dinner ànd excellent breakfast,
Review 125:The bed had beg-bugs that were visible and made all of us extremely itchy
Review 126:The steakhouse had nice food. The room was nice and had a good TV. Loved that it was pet friendly.
Review 127:Room decor was dated and bed was too firm.
Review 128:Easy to find hotel with suitable amenities for a quick overnight stay. Convenience of a restaurant there when we checked in at dinner time, which Rachel in reception had booked us into early in the day. Meal in restaurant was nice and filling. But the bonus was having complimentary breakfast in the same restaurant area.
Review 129:Needs a few more things fixed in bathroom but did not worry us oldies.
Review 130:Convenience of being able to have a place to have Dinner that night without travelling up and down the street to find something. Meal was excellent Breakfast included too.
Review 131:Pleasantly surprised with cleanliness and comfort at budget price. Restaurant did great meals, especially the steak. They were very accommodating for the kids
Review 132:When we walked into our room there were 4 flies buzzing around in the room and dead flies in the bottom of the wardrobe to which I was horrified
Review 133:The bed was very comfortable, We were in a quiet location which wS pleasant
Review 134:Room was small. Need to change listing from "Free Buffet Breakfast" to "Free Continental Breakfast" - That indicates me hot breakfast.
Review 135:Comfortable Bed. Great Shower - Not needle spray. Paid extra $20 for breakfast ( 2 people ) and was very good quality and amount.
Review 136:Not bad, but prefer separate hand basin and kitchen sink. Confused over room instructions, "no food preparation " yet microwave provided!
Review 137:Close to town. Little road noise. Not retro, but liveable.
Review 138:There was no bad experience but I did find the basin located outside the bathroom next to the tea facilities disconcerting. This particular room probably would not suit female travellers.
Review 139:This well maintained property was excellent value. The lighting was good. Tea making facilities good. TV modern. These is ideal for the solo traveller.
Review 140:The toilet had the hygienically clean paper sign but when lid opened, there were brown "skid marks" and pubic hair in the bowl. The shower had long hair on the walls and floor. The bedside drawers were very dusty with a lot of dead insects...unusable.
Review 141:Friendly staff,breakfast was nice.
Review 142:A faint smell of effluent in our room..maybe a sewer nearby.
Review 143:I loved the room... very clean x the bed had electric blankets x was very comfortable.. shower hot x strong. A surprising continental breakfast thrown in. Great value for money..
Review 144:Bathroom needlessly way too small. If the front wall was built straight, instead of having two right angle bends in it, without using any more wall material or encroaching on the room space a 25% increase in bathroom space is achieved.
Review 145:Obliging & friendly staff
