Reviews for Bel Air Collection Resort & Spa Riviera Maya
Review 1:The artificial orange juice for breakfast has an extremely water down taste. Had some problems with the wifi connection being stable. Had a minor leak in the room when it rained. Offered a small safe for valuables which we kept our passports and somehow they came out humid, they money we kept in there was somewhat wet as well. Dislike the location since I hoped to find nearer stores or places to eat outside the hotel. Stores inside hotel closed early.
Review 2:I absolutely loved our breakfast menu, they offered authentic Mexican choices. Coffee was awesome! Completely fell in love with the design of the rooms and the entire hotel itself. The pool was beautiful, air conditioning in rooms works great. Room service cleaned up well. Truly enjoyed the scenery of our balcony.
Review 5:We liked everything because we seek out alternative travel options. This resort isn't for tourists looking for the over-indulgent all-inclusive loud crowded commercial style vacation. This hotel is well done & a truly relaxing place where time stands still. Surely it is booked solid for holidays, so we enjoyed April just after the Semana Santa Easter crowds, although it was US school vacation week. The hotel name doesn't match the eco chic trendy luxury it offers. We had never booked there because BelAir connotes California style. This is more Costa Rica style, Upscale Mexican rustic Caribbean style. Mixing natural elements with all the ammenities of great service, AC, flat screen TV with CNN, jacuzzi, well equipped health club, spa, etc. It has it all, but done so well blended with nature. We had a rental car, but there is bus service to Tulum & Coba ruins. Accross the main road there are many ecopark swimming/kayak/diving options in cenotes. Five minutes north is the resort village of Puerto Aventuras, with many restaurants, shops, hotels, & the large marina & golf course. On the property there is cenote swimming and a 500 meter kayak route through jungle and mangle (mangrove). They even do sunset romantic champagne service at several scenic spots throughout the natural areas.
Review 6:We can't believe we never stated at this hotel before. We have stayed at many resorts on this coast, but find them too crowded & commercial. BelAir is very well managed & maintained, eco chic serenity. Quality linens, w/ details like pewter trays in room for coffee station & minibar. Huge wooden porch overlooking natural cenote, with lounge chairs, hammock & garden table set. Excellent AC. Grounds & gardens beautiful with stone walkways to hidden natural areas. Villas are 2 story with large porches catching the breeze, set in groupings hidden in jungle, connected by stone pedestrian & golf cart pathways. Property is oceanfront with 2 large pools & lounge area facing sea, but rocky coast at that point. No worries! The sandy beach is just ten minutes away with quick van service. The Xpuha beach area they have in a secluded coastal bay is exceptional. The long white beach is remote & has only a few boutique hotels along its length. Many areas are beautiful virgin beach while we were walking the coast. The beach club area has a tasteful bar & many umbrellas & lounges. The same beach has a European kitesurf school & beach restaurant all of natural wood & palapa construction with wonderful food & drink. It's called KSM "Living the Dream" and you can lose yourself in the great atmosphere. On the other side a locally owned beach restaurant with latin music, great bar, & Mexican food for a great afternoon in local ambiance with a cold Corona & great fresh ceviche of shrimp, octupus, fish. The hotel Staff are super courteous & spoke English well (although we didn't need them to). Golf cart service all over the property. We didn't try the restaurants but did get room service 2x. (which expectedly takes an hour to arrive but is like US hotels- Club sandwich, etc.
Review 7:Extremely inconvenience. Insect poo on the bed in the first room and spider in the shower in the second room. Dont stay on the top floor since dust from hay on the roof is everywhere in the first room. Canceled the second night and almost moved to another hotel with the penalty in the first night (but we are too tired). The cancellation process here is hectic and it wanted to charge an extra 5% for refund of the second night (we did not allow it). Wifi signal is poor but better than nothing
Review 8:Exotic, jungle-liked feel that does not match the starred hotel. Unhelpful support from Booking.com to deal with the Hotel
Review 9:The beach was not able to be used, but there is a bus that takes people every 15 minutes to a beach 5 minutes away called Xpu Ha and is really worth it! Is paradise!
Review 10:I lost my mother on 12/04/2014, and needed to go to an isolated place where I could be in touch with the nature and re-charge my positive energy! I couldn't have chosen a better hotel for my purpose. This hotel is magical, situated in the middle of a jungle, perfect for testing and enjoy the nature!
Review 11:The beach could be better, but there are a million better beaches near by and easily found.
Review 12:The zoo was amazing and the room was Second to none. All the animals and trainers were inspired and happy. Jacuzzi tub was excellent and the value of everything was incredible. Great cenote's and free activities.
Review 13:nothing really
Review 14:perfect place to stay and relax, really feeling in the middle of a jungle. the hotel has a zoo (very well kept) with all kinds of animals. We fed almost all kinds of animals including kangaroo (in mexico!) and coatis came to our balcony asking for a snack. Hotel definitely for nature lovers. Very quiet, nice comfy beds and staff extremely friendly and willing to help.
Review 15:a lot to improve in the cleaning around the room.....! And the restaurant ....! Too Few cars and bell man.....! Not wait for fast attention.... There is no Beach....! The kids swiming pool is not well mantain....!
Review 16:the people attitude to help .....!
Review 17:Almost none of the staff knew English (of course it's mostly our problem, we should Know better spanish when comming to Mexico). The food was terrible, so terrible that we took the colectivo every night to get out of the hotel to get propper food. This is not a luxury hotel, luxury is not messured in the number of employees taking orders in the breakfast and then forgetting all or parts of the order. This is maximum a 3 star hotel. The Rooms are located in between the zoos cages, behind our room we had the lion cage, if your here with kids it might be nice but we didnt come for watching a stressed panther in a cage. I would not go back to this hotel, we prefer to eat better than we sleep.
Review 18:The room was very nice, spacious and it came with an jacuzzi. We also liked the beach even though it we had to take a bus to get there.
Review 19:Only said cash snd the frint desk charged my card without asking first. My room was dirty and used at arrival. We attived as a family and rooms were in different zones. The food was horrible. Tile in room was cracked. One of my personal toeels was taken. No beach sucked. Beach club sucked even more. Check out took a hour.
Review 20:The kids water park.
Review 21:the rooms specially the linens were old and dirty
Review 22:the reception area is very grand, and the pools are nicely kept
Review 23:it was all good nothing negative to say
Review 24:All of it very unique experience to relax and feel like you are living amongst the wild jungle kingdom in comfort with good food and staff
Review 25:Receptionists was really unprofesionals and rood. I was lisening horrible behiving from them for other clients and also for us when tseking in and out.
Review 26:Zoo and cenotes and kids pool
Review 27:Poor service, staff outside reception didn't speak English, bed linen were changed once in 4 days despite visible stains after day 1, no clean towels were provided, situated between Tulum and Playa del Carmen if you do not have your own vehicle you have very limited transport options to reach either town, tiny beach not suitable for swimming. Noisy birds woke us up at 5 am every day, insufficient golfcar service to transfer you around the resort meant you were stuck waiting for 15' every time you had to leave your room to go anywhere.
Review 28:The rooms were spacious and comfortable.
Review 29:I had no idea they had a small zoo when I booked. They keep their animals in tiny concrete cages, sometimes directly under the sun! There so many other ways to see wild animals in their own habitat, no need to make them suffer in captivity! Even if you don't care about animals you should still look for another place and here's why: the power generator was really loud and needed earplugs to sleep! The food was quite bad, why can't they offer real mexican food is beyond me! Also the restaurant was always smelly and filled with smoke! There's no beach, so you will need to take a painfully long bus ride or drive around all the time (remember you don't want to eat here).
Review 30:The jacuzzi.
Review 31:restaurants are pricy
Review 32:huge territory with a lot of wild species living in it, own lagoon with cayaking activity, big swimming pool with hidromassage area, excellent room with a big window, own terrace and spa bath for two.
Review 33:The resort felt empty, lack of atmosphere. Poor variety of restaurants and not value for money. High expectations set at front desk on arrival that were not met.
Review 34:Location was good, natural environement with on-site cenote and lots of animals. Room was nice.
Review 35:The breakfast that was include, never appear. We had to pay for abreakfast in their restaurant because, there were no plates no butter,no juice, only 3 balls of bread and we were 3 and coffee thats it...theycan't say the breakfast is included.and nobody attend there...at thebreakfast place, the birds were eating the bread that we suppose toeat...T E r r I b l e
Review 36:Good transportation service room clean and beautiful... Many things todo there...Staff was nice
Review 37:As an egological resort, it should have solar panels or wind turbines. Acentral laneway/pathway should connect all popularbuildings/cottages/interesting spots & areas like the zooanimals for easy access. The room that we had was moldy and access todrinking water was unavailable and there should be better meal options.
Review 38:The natural setting and peaceful environment with cottage stylerooms and great architectural design of the resort made it a verypleasant stay.
Review 39:Food, poor/inexperienced management, room is smelly, airconditioning system is old and loud. There were no instructions how touse the phone and no room service menu. Our rooms to the lobby or to thepool/restuarants is at least 10 min walk. Golf cart service ishardly around.
Review 40:Landscape and the price.
Review 41:The whole hotel needs updating, pool area, lobby bar are a disgrace.Tiles missing from pool and whole area not kept clean, Lobby bar noatmosphere, comfort or service. It is the only area to sit and have adrink in the evenings.Food in restuarant very inconsistent, both in taste and appearence. Could be wonderful with some consistant managament imput. Both bar and food areas regularly run out of products which take a fews days to replace, either down to poor managament in this area or a cash flow problem. The hotel has a new manager so lets hope things will improve, but we do feel that with out an injection of cash things will struggle to improve. No where near 5 star at present.
Review 42:The rooms were very comfortable and kept very clean, in need of someupdating but minor details.Beautiful grounds and animals, suitable for both adults and families with children.
Review 43:The food is verry bad the service they try to charge extra things youdidint took (drinks, food...) make sure you take a good look at yourbill before paying!
Review 44:The food in the restaurant did not use any of the ingredients listedon the menu E.G. Mozerella, veal. We did not enjoy dinner and ourEuropean plan included breakfast which was just coffee and bread andpretty stingey.
Review 45:Very quiet, hardly any other guests. The cenote was great.
Review 46:- breakfast - not worth getting up for, very bad, finishes at 9am - good potential, lovely rooms and surroundings, but could have paid more -- attention service wise - our daughter also found the remains of a glass bottle in our room so it was not cleaned very well before out arrival - food in general was not great
Review 47:was not very busy, peaceful lovely pools, especially for children lovely view of the sea, but no beach - just stones
Review 48:Poor italian dishes on a la carte menu. Necessity to sign after every meal and drink. Poor/small beach. They need more activity in the evenings. Musty smelling a/c in our first room.
Review 49:Staff were so friendly. Unique rooms. Beautiful pool. Incredible lounge bar.
Review 50:The continental breakfast is definitely too basic
Review 51:While the Costa Maya has a lot of huge hotels and resorts that are the same everywhere, Bel Air is very special and is an excellent mix between real confort and facilities ( the pool is huge ) and nature. The rooms are gorgeous ( with a jacuzzi) the terrasses are huge and give you the feeling of living in the nature. The hotel provides kayak to explore the mangrove and watch the birds.Excellent location to visit Akumal,Xcaret,Xcel Ha, Coba and Tulum.
Review 52:the hotel is really expensive, you have to pay many things when you are there. Even the breakfast, that was included in the booking, was charged something like 40 $ !!! and the dinner, a simple buffet with no other choices, was about 100 $ !!! moreover, you have to give tips many times for everything you do! when we arrived they said that room wasn't ready and they drove us to the restaurant to wait (but there we were obliged to consume!!!). when we finally get to our room, there was a lot of water on the floor (it rained the night before). So we understood that it wasn't true that the room wasn't ready, it was an excuse to let us consume at the restaurant! and we saw doing this farce with all the other guests!
Review 53:the hotel is beautiful but very noisy in the swimming pool. the beach isn't good, it has rubbish and the water is dirty near the bank.
Review 54:Spa could be a whole lot better
Review 55:Lovely helpful staff and environmental feel.
Review 56:No beach
Review 57:The food The staff The animals
Review 58:very old room. many problems.
Review 59:the room
Review 60:Food was not great - staff was not always available at scheduled events.
Review 61:Loved the animals and jungle environment
Review 62:This hotel doesn't have own beach where you can swim. We had to go to the neighbouring hotel beach.
Review 63:The staff was very friendly and helpful. The Jacuzzi , the animals and the poll amenities are very nice. Excellent cost benefit by our rate
Review 64:Need to improve food quality!
Review 65:More natural setting despite being situated in the middle of the RivieraMaya area amongst commercial resorts
