Reviews for Hotel Monterey Sapporo

Review 1:My family felt that the whole experience was really great. Their decor and room makes the whole place and experience very grand. The food was good. Also, it's not expensive.

Review 2:We really liked how the hotel is designed to be like the 50s without letting you feel old and dirty. There was this very nice lift where you felt as if you were in a movie riding in it.

Review 3:It takes about 10-15 mins walk to the main shopping area. But it's absolutely fine for travellers who love to walk and sightseeing a lot.

Review 4:The classic and retro settings of the entire property, simply attractive. Heavy use of wooden materials can be seen everywhere. Cleanliness is on the higher end, I can see staffs cleaning the property in a very detailed way - the door handle, the drop-off area, the table and the decorations around lobby area. Room is very nice, uniquely renovated. Comfy and reasonably spacious too. Staffs are the best part of my stay. Special thanks to Mr. Sato (佐藤) and Ms. Hirama for their serious effort in assisting me for bus and flight related queries, although it is definitely not within their knowledge but they tried their very best to help. Job well done. Such service attitude should be encouraged across the industry indeed.

Review 5:Night desk not too helpful, could not understand English well and a bit rude when enquired about late checkout next day. Daytime reception staff much friendlier and courteous.

Review 6:The Eiropean decor and furniture is unusual in Japanese hotels; indoor garden is nice. Bed is comfortable and location good.

Review 7:very good location, close to train station for our day trips. Front desk staff provided excellent directions for our day trips outside of Sapporo, and printed us the bus schedule. Thanks for excellent service that made our trip enjoyable. Very nice people.

Review 8:The room is a little bit small. Our luggages are so heavy and we can hardly move them to our room due to the carpet at the corridor. The breakfast is really disappointing.

Review 9:The decoration is really impressive. The bed is comfortable.

Review 10:the price is too high, the breakfast atmosphere is lousy, the food spread is disappoiting, the quality is average, definitely not worth 19,000 Yen per person !

Review 11:small-sized room and bath room with no hard soap

Review 12:Building structures, corridors, furnitures, costumes of staffs even elevators make me feel antique moods of modern times. 5-min-walk distance from Sapporo station around shopping district.

Review 13:Hotel management's pictures look nice. In reality furniture looks tired, very tired.

Review 14:Location: The hotel is two blocks from the train station. Room type: The de luxe room is large and has 1 1/2 baths.

Review 15:Only suggestion is to add a clearer signage in the hotel entrance to direct new guest to the reception counter.

Review 16:The room is spacious, European vintage design is warm and lovely. 5 more min walk from exit of BIC camera next to JR station.

Review 17:Would prefer password secured WiFi

Review 18:Good central location within walking distance to the attractions we were keen to visit (Sapporo Beer Factory, fish markets, etc). Comfortable hotel with friendly staff. Great value. Would stay again next time in Sapporo.

Review 19:The location of the hotel (within 5 min walk from Jr Sapporo Station) was perfect for our family. We enjoyed the hotel garden and decor, staff were friendly and accommodating, the rooms were spacious and comfortable. Overall a good experience.

Review 20:It is a bit of a walk from the main downtown area, but there is a subway station nearby and a taxi fare is cheap.

Review 21:Good location close to the main JR train station which services the airport and other major cities in Hokkaido. Staff spoke decent English. Different to most Japanese hotels in a good way.

Review 22:Quality and variety of the breakfast wasn't up to the price.

Review 23:Unexpectedly excellent quality of the room. Very clean, pleasant atmosphere, nice breakfast. Small twin room is not that small at all.

Review 24:Bad experience from one of the male staff at reception counter. I was shooed away rudely while trying to make an enquiry on direction to the tourists attraction, and there wasn't any guest before me, aren't they suppose to treat their guest equally?

Review 25:Love the ambience.

Review 26:Room is very dusty except bathroom. No free late check out for an hour or two.

Review 27:Old British building is my preferred type of architecture. Location is good and convenient. Common areas are in good upkeep. Now with free in room wifi is an excellent upgrade. Good value for the price during my stay.

Review 28:We needed help to print the boarding pass, but were told that it is notthe hotel policy to do printing for guests even though we will pay forit and they have a printer. The staff directed us to some shops. Wecannot read Japanese and had a hard time locating them. When found, theywere closed for the weekend. Later we found a printing service ourselvesat 7 eleven, and managed to get the boarding pass printed. Badexperience over a simple request.

Review 29:The cleanliness and room size.

Review 30:Room temperature

Review 31:The room was far too hot at night. Tried reducing the temperature on the room thermostat but it kept resetting itself to 23.5 degrees. Ridiculous for early October

Review 32:Can smell smoke in the corridor, luckily there no such smell in the room.

Review 33:Good location, clean and nice room, beautiful decoration, quite room, good facilities

Review 34:Hotel might have a limited number of non-smoking rooms even we booked more than 3-4 months, hotel couldn't confirm and arranged for our group. When we asked for, they seemed to chrage us more for changing the room type. However, finally, they could manage to provide all non-smoking rooms (4 rooms) for our group. So if you're really unable to stay in smoking smell room, it' better to follow up closely beforehand.
