Reviews for Apollo Hotel Utrecht City Centre
Review 1:This is a good hotel for the price. Very efficient receptionist. Hotel is in the centre of town surrounded by places to eat and very convenient for the station, It is clean, warm and comfortable enough.
Review 2:My double room was not more than a match box, located at the back side. I had to go down the stairs first, then follow a hall way and up in the elevator. I found a cloud of hair on the bathroom floor, disgusting. The remote control of the television hardly worked. I expect a bit more from a 4* hotel!
Review 3:Location, location, location!
Review 4:it wasn't the cleanest of all places
Review 5:location was pretty great for Utrecht. everything you might need and more was within walking distance. stuff was very helpful. if you just need a comfortable place to stay and explore the city and don't want to spend too much this is a great choice
Review 6:3d floor windows were opening to the flat rooftop of the hotel's lounge - didn't quite feel safe enough to leave the window open all night, but room stayed cool enough after letting the ridiculously hot room temperature escape through the open window.
Review 7:Very close to the railway and bus stations, the city centre and extremely close to the music venue Tivoli Vredenburg. Slept at the back of the hotel, no sounds of city life to keep me awake despite the inner city location.
Review 8:The hotel has NO parking, only after booking did I learn that there is pay parking nearby 30 euros per night There is a lift but a flight of 29 steps at the entrance, so doubly bad if you have suitcases
Review 9:Central location
Review 10:Poor wifi connection, unless you paid extra. Cramped room for that price (140 euro) with no brekkie. Broken lamp in the room. TV remote not working well (and no free movie channel). (To be fair: I couldn't be bothered to bring this to the attention of staff, as I was only staying for the one night. I'm sure they would have tried to solve matters otherwise as they were quite friendly.)
Review 11:Location is excellent, staff is helpful, bed is fine.
Review 12:The hotel has a perfect location in the city center of Utrecht and vary close to the central station. The room (double bed room) we had was of a good size, there was enough space for two people to feel comfortable. Also I loved the little tea bar we had in a room. What do you need after a long walk in a rain ? A cup of hot tea makes it all. I recommend Apollo hotel for your stay in Utrecht.
Review 13:The building works outside our window were very noisy at 8am. Staff were a little amatuerish and seemed confused by our needs. Maybe they were new?
Review 14:Location was what we wanted
Review 15:Lift was v. small if you had luggage, you'd need to make more than 1 trip
Review 16:The service from the staff was incredibly good. Good breakfast selection Well equipped rooms
Review 17:Incredible noise from outside; this was a midweek stay, not the weekend. Needs triple or quadruple glazing. Room large but very dated and bathroom unpleasant. Toiletries are the all in one type normally found in very low cost hotels. The free lounge was closed off to most clients on one day of my stay because of a 'meeting'. Seemed to be a conference. I've done over 1000 business room nights in hotels across Europe and the Nordics and this was one of the poorest for value for money.
Review 18:Nespresso machine. Location very central; perfect for my visit to Utrecht.
Review 19:This is not a bad experience but the breakfast though very nice was very expensive. A complaint about a broken hair dryer was not dealt with.
Review 20:The location near both station and centre. The very quiet room and comfortable bed. Very friendly staff.
Review 21:- air-condition (at least we had a fan as a standard in our room). -more updated interior (we had more a feeling of a posh hostel) - paid room internet was reasonably priced at 7.5o Euro, additional devices at a cost of 2.50 Euro per 24 hours. Considering the lack of speed for a paid service, a poor rating! even email attachments stalled downloading. - needs renovation / updating soon
Review 22:- extremely friendly staff which gave aus a great stay welcoming feeling. - breakfast was included into our rate, and we loved. fresh fruits, coffee, waffles, muesli, eggs etc. - bed comfort was ok, just disliked the two twins merging into a queen bed
Review 23:Staff were very welcoming & full of advice. Having a room with a balcony was a brilliant bonus. Would definitely stay again as in excellent location & so close to railway station.
Review 24:Room very warm without climatisation, Window was not closing well, TV screen not easy to use with the menus, Wifi / inthernet not included, Definetly not at the level of 4 stars as mentioned on the website
Review 25:Breakfast is fine, location in the city is great
Review 26:On Saturday fresh squeezed orange juice was not available and alternative was not provided. Wifi should be free everywhere in the hotel and not only in the lobby.
Review 27:Settings, rooms and staff. The breakfast is very nice although I would add a selection of lactose free or soy products as well as more plain cereals.
Review 28:There was a very strange smell in the corridor near our room. Also we were directe to use a lift for what turned out to be a 'journey' of 3 steps
Review 29:The rooms were very hot during the day and night as no air-con facility is in them and due to the weather very little breeze could be felt from the window making it a little uncomfortable to sleep in.
Review 30:The breakfast was nice, the location is ideal in terms of distance from the centre and the train station. The lounge area is nice to use also as this has air-con, free WIFI and coffee machine.
Review 31:Noise from the elevator engine room on the top floor made sleep hard. Expensive breakfast for almost 20 euro, 8 euro per day for 2mbit wifi.
Review 32:Central placement.
Review 33:Definitely it's not a 4 star hotel. For 3 stars is good. Thereisn't fridge or minibar in the room. No toothbrush, soap orslippers, only liquid soap. Toothbrush or razor can be provided from thereception (free of charge). The lounge has only water, tea and coffee. The breakfast was just right, nothing fancy. It was included in ourprice, but if not, it's not worth paying for. Not fresh squeezedjuice, only from a machine, coffee also from a machines, not muchchoices for sweet lovers. Our room was 517 on the top floor withadditional stairs. For elder people it can be a problem. No aircon inthe room. For the price of 110 Eur that's not good. Our weather wasok (17-20 degrees) and it wasn't a problem, but the room was veryhot one and it was next to the elevator, very noisy.
Review 34:The location in the heart of the city, 5-10 minutes on foot from thetrain station. Free city map on the reception. Smiling staff. Extralarge comfi bed. Tv channels in Dutch, English, German, Spanish,Italian, French, Russian. Very tasty croissants in the breakfast.
Review 35:It was said that wifi is not in all areas, so no surprises about that.
Review 36:Perfect location, close to Train station, Tivoli Vredenburg (if purpose of your visit is to see the show there, this hotel is right choice), walking distance from restaurants, canals, ideal to start your sightseeing. Big room, balcony, clean. No wifi in all areas.
Review 37:- It's a nice hotel, but I would not rate it 4 stars, it's more a comfortable 3 star hotel. - A hotel nowadays should have free wifi throughout, not just in one type of room.
Review 38:-I had a Club Room, which was a very spacious, modern, and updated room. The only type of room with free Wifi. -Facilities are simple but sufficient for an overnight stay. -Walking distance from the Dom, Oude Gracht, and Central Station/ Hoog Catharijne.
Review 39:We were on the top floor and the elevator did not go that high. Also, our room was next to the 'elevator house' which meant we were hearing every movement of the elevator during the day and night - the bed is right next to it.
Review 40:The location is very convenient for exploring Utrecht. Nice view on the Dom from our top floor room.
Locatie is TOP.
Review 43:The bed The TV didn't work Very small room for a superior single ? Very noisy room .Very old windows No mention that you needed to pay for WIFI
Review 44:Location
Review 45:Over priced & rate received on Booking.com, the hotel added extra for Government tax.
Review 46:Staff very helpful & friendly. Hotel was clean, room spacious & cleaned every day. Good location.
Review 47:Had no room available when arrived. Had to leave bags in friends room before enjoying the evening and getting room later at nighto
Review 48:Location and friendly
Review 49:The lack of free wifi in the rooms is a little irritating in 2015 although it was available in the dining area. The great location also means there is quite a bit of noise from the streets below.
Review 50:The hotel is well located just a few minutes walk from the train station and many of the attractions. The breakfast was very good, much better than I would have expected from this type of hotel. The room was clean and comfortable.
Review 51:Room needs refurbishment especially floor. Breakfast quite expensive but nothing special.
Review 52:Good location though a bit noisy at night. Bed was comfortable.
Review 53:Old, outdated room with a horrible hostel-like bathroom. I called the hotel 4 times with a question before I made a reservation, but there was nobody to pick up the phone. Paid wifi. The electricity stopped working in the middle of the night and housekeeping woke us up whilst we had put up the "Do not disturb"-sign. Not 210,- euros or "Superior Double" worth.
Review 54:The location
Review 55:The lighting in the rooms is very poor, I took my father-in-law on my most recent trip, whose eyesight isn't as strong as it once was and he really struggled with the poor lighting. Having to pay for wireless is a joke!!! Are you kidding me??? This is free in virtually all European Hotels. The breakfast is great but far too expensive. So, if you don't mind dimly lit rooms, expensive breakfasts and expensive wireless connectivity, then I can't recommend this place enough. This place is almost perfect, just need to iron out these financial issues, which really hurt the customer's wallet!!!
Review 56:The Hotel is in a great spot, everything is within walking distance, taxi rank right outside for longer distances. The Hotel is clean and there isn't a great deal to find fault with. The breakfast selection was impressive, the price not so impressive, almost double what I pay in most European Hotels.
Review 57:Slow free Wifi only in Lounge Single bed stood very inconveniently in the room Lamp didnt have a visible button, had to unplug to turn off Tried to charge me double the arranged price, till I showed them the booking Already older and used facilities
Review 58:Excellent location
Review 59:Paid wifi? Really? In the 21st century? Other hotels for the same rate will have free wifi - my own fault perhaps for not reading the small print but this just annoys me.
Review 60:The Hotel is excellently located in central Utrecht and is near public transport. Plenty to do/see nearby and plenty of restaurants.
Review 61:Wifi is paid (but you can use free in the lounge OR if you are lucky try to connect to the free cafe wifi on the opposite side of street) Breakfast too expensive
Review 62:Awesome location Clean, big rooms Good bathroom
Review 63:The location is superb, the staff were friendly, it was quiet at night and spotlessly clean with good continental breakfasts. Very pleased with the hotel.
Review 64:WIFI needs to be in every room, especially for a city center hotel. Lack of communication for travelers is not acceptable in this century
Review 65:Great Location!
Review 66:NEED FREE WIFI - ITS PRETTY STANDARD THESE DAYS/SHOWER NOT VERY POWERFUL/BED AND ONE OF CHAIRS IN ROOM ON CASTERS, SO THEY ROLLED AROUND A BIT!
Review 67:LOCATION/CLEANLINESS/STAFF FRIENDLINESS AND HELPFULNESS/TOP BREAKFAST.
Review 68:Poor price-quality: - expensive internet connection - epensive breakfast - quality of room only OK for price. Can be noisy outside due to location in city.
Review 69:Excelent location Friendly service
Review 70:The staff in reception were very friendly and helpful. The room was nice, bright and spacious. We have stayed here twice before and will definitly stay here again
Review 71:The wifi was not free in the room. Expensive breakfast (we didn't try it, there were so many other options downtown..)
Review 72:In the heart of the city, close to everything. Comfortable room.
Review 73:Niet geschikt voor mindervaliden ivm trapjes en treden in het hotel/lounge/eetzaal.
Review 74:Ideale ligging tov centraal station ( circa 10 min) en binnenstad ( circa 10 min)
Review 75:Rooms were too hot and no aircon Wifi is extra Breakfast is extra Shower was temperamental Irons not always available On TWO separate occasions I was awoken at 0330 by some very noisy neighbours having a chat in the courtyard Price was exhorbitant. More expensive than the Karel V!
Review 76:Location was good Staff were quite good Decent breakfast
Review 77:- very small bathroom - shower in bathtub in 4* hotel...come on... - (very) old hallways - old furniture in room - small old flatscreen
Review 78:- location - size of the room
Review 79:Expensive, room was only 2/3 star, no free wifi in room, bathroom creams etc none existent (basic fixed to wall soap -you get better in premier inn).
Review 80:Internet! I paid 10 Euros, and the wireless signal in my room was very weak. If the hotel charges so much, then it needs to invest in better quality routers so that the signal is stronger and usable. TV! Very clumsy system for changing channels and setting volume. It was either nearly inaudible, or - the next highest setting - too loud.
Review 81:location was very good Clean Nice staff
Review 82:Free Wifi only on floor two in a common room. Anyway the place is pretty large and there are tables and places for sitting and drinking a free coffee.
Review 83:The position of the hotel is very convenient. It is half way from the railway station and half way from the city center (5 mins walking from both). Staff is very kind and the room we stayed in was quiet, large and clean. On the second floor there's free coffee, tea and water.
Review 84:Difficulty to arrive with car and unpack. The area is reserved forpublic transport and there are plenty of works in the streets nearby.Daily parking in a nearby public parking is unnecessarily expensive (30 EUR). The municipality is following a suicidal policy for visitors. Breakfast is fine but ridicoulously expensive.
Review 85:The executive rooms were very nice. The treatment offered by the personnel was excellent. Location is very good, at the tip of the old town, with walking distance to the huge mall and train station.
Review 86:Limited facilities (no air condition and minibar in standard rooms). The window was old and difficult to close. Internet and breakfast not included in the price (both being quite expensive).
Review 87:Excellent location (for a public transport user); friendly and helpful staff.
Review 88:Breakfast was not included
Review 89:The rooms are great as well as the staff and the location is in the middle of the center , 50 meters from the station entrance. Quiet and clean rooms and very friendly staff.
Review 90:No free wifi in the room. Was told it was available in the lobby, which is not a pleasant area. TV switched itself off at 10 and would not come on again. Protruding radiator knob is a hazard. Bed seemed past its best. Surprised that normal rate is £80 plus.
Review 91:Proximity to station and canal side streets, cathedral etc.
Review 92:The hotel is not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. The rooms are basic and although clean, they are tired. The bathroom needed updating, there was mould / limescale on the tiles etc and the mirror was very tarnished round the edges. The fact that the Hotel is rated 4 star is really what disappoints, the points listed are not what you would expect at a 4 star hotel.
Review 93:Parking nearby isn't quite the same in Utrecht. I thought perhaps across the road. this was across the square, some side streets and through a mall.
Review 94:Location. Staff.
Review 95:Services bellow expectations: - no slippers in the room - the key for the safe locker was not in the room, had to ask for it - corridors with quite old and smelly carpet - the faucet was leaking - card kept resetting and the door wouldn't open so I had to go to the reception four times
Review 96:The location is great. The staff was friendly. The room was clean.
Review 97:Room is far too simple for the rating of the hotel. If you are hungry after 22:00 - you have a problem. No AC, no toiletries, no refrigertor, no mini-bar, internet costs money.
Review 98:Wifi supposedly free in lounge, but not easy to connect! Wifi in room was €9.50 for 24 hours. Cheaper to use 3G data! Breakfast was €19.50 for nothing very exciting. Very steep staircase if didn't wish to use lift.
Review 99:location
Review 100:Got a dark room in the basement without AC during one of the hottest summer in The Netherlands, so had to change and of course pay extra. Nedded to call reception everytime I wanted to watch TV. The remote control bateries were changed 4 times. There were lots of old, ugly looking stains on the walls of the room and bathroom, defenitively not acceptable for a 4 start hotel.
Review 101:The location of the hotel
Review 102:We were placed in a room right beside where there were builders workingon the hotel from 7am (talking loudly, smoking, using power tools, etc.), our sleep situation was not helped by the neighbours across thecourtyard partying till around 2am (but we understand this is not thehotels fault). Given the price of the room we would have expected not tohave been put right beside the construction work or to have been offereda discounted rate at the least. We had a horrible stay here.
Review 103:The central location made this hotel very convenient.
Review 104:- No Free Wifi in the rooms. One has to pay for it. It's available in a common area. - Breakfast was not worth it. There are much better options for breakfast available in other nearby hotels for the same price.
Review 105:Best Location possible, right in the middle of city centre. Friendly staff.
Review 106:Very basic rooms had to pay for TV and high speed broadband even though I was in an executive room which should never be called that it was awful
Review 107:No free wifi. We had to change room in the middle of the night because it was not clean. Rooms were not soundproof we could hear noise from the road.
Review 108:the room (5th floor) was clean but clearly old - one of the ceiling boards in the shower was broken.
Review 109:Excellent location, I stayed for a really short time while traveling for business. Staff was very friendly and the breakfast was nice.
Review 110:steps up to reception difficult with disability tho' staff very helpful room comfortable but a bit dark/dreary
Review 111:convenient location nice staff very helpful room quiet
Review 112:better than last stay
Review 113:Great location Quite room
Review 114:No heat in the room when I arrived so it was very cold. Once the heater was on the room warmed up
Review 115:Breakfast Dinner recommendation
Review 116:Perfect location, nice room
Review 117:Stayed while going to a concert at Vredenburg . Very close to concert location and railway station. Room had small balcony which was good.
Review 118:noisy area around the hotel
Review 119:The heater doesn't really warm up the room. Too cold at night
Review 120:The facilities and location is very good
Review 121:Room was really basic, I was expecting more for this price
Review 122:Breakfast and location
Review 123:the bed sheets were used and not changed
Review 124:good central location very quiet room no complaints
Review 125:Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room
Review 126:freezing cold in the room, very noisy
Review 127:Location was great
Review 128:Smalle trapjes met koffer. Muffe geur in gang beneden.
Review 129:Centrale ligging
Review 130:No fridge in room. Limited toiletries.
Review 131:Excellent location. Handy to great shops, cafes and the train station. Free WiFi in room
