Reviews for Malie Hotel Utrecht - Hampshire Hotel

Review 1:Throughly enjoyed our stay, fab staff, so clean, very comfortable, quiet location and just a short walk from Utrecht town centre, easy walk to train station. Everything you'll need in facilities. Perfect!

Review 2:Paying additional fee for breakfast.

Review 3:We loved everything! And you can hire bikes at the hotel, which was great. Breakfast was very good, but an additional cost, possibly the only downside of the hotel. The bedroom was very comfortable with a good shower. Spotlessly clean and warm.

Review 4:The hotel just went through a renovation, and that was done in the 'Dutch way'. This means the rooms are updated, but the bathrooms still are from the 80's. Furthermore terrible pillows and a poor matras.

Review 5:The staff is during the day was very kind and helpful. The breakfast was nice with truly fresh orange juice, and the rooms are clean with hd television available.

Review 6:Staff gossiping about guests' (while other guests could hear it), poor breakfast, interior of rooms could do with an update.

Review 7:Location was good, near the bus stop.

Review 8:Not a thing.

Review 9:Begin with the staff: very friendly check in. Later very helpful service when we asked for directions. Next day staff again was most helpful and friendly. Nothing was a bother. The room was so nice and wonderfully comfortable that we thought to be in the guest room of a friend's house rather than in a hotel. I would go back to Utrecht just to stay in this hotel. Thank you all very much.

Review 10:Only negative is the bathroom could use a couple of hooks and a shelf above the sink.

Review 11:Beautiful neighbourhood, bike rental at the hotel, comfortable bed, very clean, friendly, helpful staff.

Review 12:The lighting in the room and bathroom was poor.

Review 13:This was an attractive, comfortable hotel in a quiet leafy suburb but still within a 15 minute walk of the town centre. The on-street parking was just around the corner from the hotel and we felt safe leaving our car there. The hotel provided an on-street permit at a reasonable charge.

Review 14:Very friendly and polite staff. Hotel in a quiet location. 15 min walk into town. Good selection at breakfast with a proper orange juicing machine and coffee from ground beans.

Review 15:Minor irritation overall but woken up early one morning by renovation work being carried out in building. Staff had asked that they be informed if disturbed by the work but it's too late for anything to be done once awake!

Review 16:Comfortable and quiet. Tea making facilities were a plus. Staff were polite, friendly and helpful. And all spoke English which was a real bonus.

Review 17:Not the hotel's fault - noisy neighbours partying into the early hours. We notified the hotel the following day - they would have made representations.

Review 18:Location in a quiet area but close to bus stops. Beds were very comfortable.

Review 19:The furniture is a little bit old and used, but clean. The location is quiet but it is a longer walk to the city center (15-20minutes), but a nice one.

Review 20:Great staff - very professional and helpful. They made us feel at home. Rarely you come across such a team in a large hotel. The hotel is located in a very quiet area. The view was to a green backyard. The breakfasts are very good, but expensive.

Review 21:Only issue we had was that my mattress was old and saggy. I let them know and they said they were just about to do a renovation.

Review 22:Otherwise, we really liked this hotel. Nice, clean facilities with air conditioning on a very hot (97 degrees!) weekend. Best feature was the inexpensive bike rental as location was good but a little outside the center. Nice because it's quiet but you don't want to have to walk into the center every time. Plus, everyone rides bikes so you feel like a local and the neighborhood is super cute.

Review 23:Charging my account 60€ more than the cost of the room and then charging me again for the full cost so now I am out of pocket 250€ till the charge is reversed! If you are going to do this as standard practise then you should only charge the cost of the room, then it is paid and not charge again on check out! This is such an inconvenience as I am at the end of 2+ months travelling. Nowhere else in EU has done this. Some have charged the room before check in but only the cost of the room and then not charged again! Do you realise how long reversal takes? It is still not reversed. It will be 10 days.

Review 24:The vicinity to Le Tour de France! Service and comfort, great. Great wifi.

Review 25:I found the bed very soft .

Review 26:the black out curtains! the staff was very nice. the breakfast. there are bikes to hire for 8EUR per day or 4EUR for the evening only. wifi was OK, not the best connection but good enough.

Review 27:The hotel was under renovation and they started making huge sounds from 7 am! The 4-star hotel is actually a 2-star as there is no Shampoo, conditioner, body shower, lotion, soup! They even charge the guests for every small bottle of water. This tiny room was hardly 2-star. Get a better place closer to city centre.

Review 28:Nothing

Review 29:Being woken at 6.00am by window cleaner using a very loud cherry picker outside hotel. Some room decor will need updating before long.

Review 30:Warm welcome at reception; very quick to sort out electrics in room. Parking permit available for street in front of hotel - for small fee. Generous response to problem of early disturbance by contractor.

Review 31:The rooms are a bit small but with modern clean furnishings.

Review 32:Great location close to central area within easy walk to the cafe's , canals and tourist areas. The staff are very friendly and fluent in English, and support all guest needs. The buffet breakfasts provide a full range of breakfast choices and fresh from their kitchen. I would return if in the city and will recommend to anyone visiting this fine city

Review 33:Acquired by a chain, gone are the toiletries, mildew-free shower, a breakfast to look forward to. Still pleasant but still....

Review 34:Quiet, leafy street. Friendly and helpful staff. Pretty garden.

Review 35:On this occasion the room was a bit disappointing. During the night time there was a persistent humming like an extractor fan, air conditioning, or a distant motorway. We never did work out what this was. We also reported a leaky washbasin drain which was making puddles on the bathroom floor. It didn't get fixed and nor did the promised alternative room materialise.

Review 36:We have stayed here 4 or 5 times and enjoy the quiet location not too far from town and the general ambience. The light airy reception/lounge area with lots of books is particularly appealing.

Review 37:The window was broken but there was a note that the staff was working on fixing it. I understand that this is a common problem for historical buildings where windows should be kept authentic.

Review 38:Location is excellent, there are at least 3-4 great restaurants near by, quiet, cozy historical neigbourhood. Great new renovation inside with a smart design, clean, comfortable. Nice bathroom with a bathtub, new hi-tech tv.

Review 39:We were welcomed by an unfriendly looking trainee at the reception and she didn't seem to understand what to do. Its too bad because the rest of the staff was very courteous and helpful. Furthermore our room was spacious however the bathroom was very small with only few amenities. A four star hotel should go the extra mile.

Review 40:Excellent located in a very nice neighborhood and public transport is around the corner. Our room was spacious, clean with a very nice balcony. Good stay

Review 41:Small shower room with what looked like years of dust and hair build up behind the radiator and corners of the room. Room facilities were very basic. In the UK I wouldn't expect to pay half the price i did. The previous night I stayed at the Hilton in Heathrow which cost less than half the price with fantastic facilities. The Malie Hotel is said to be 4 stars. I would say more like 2.

Review 42:The entrance to the hotel looks great. unfortunatly the rooms don't have the same wow factor.

Review 43:Room was very cold at first (in the basement) but did warm up eventually. Slighlty 'musty' atmosphere in the basement. Frequent sound of running water behind the cupboard in the bathroom was a bit strange.

Review 44:Large room with simple but elegant furniture and a 'non-standaridised' feel. Cosy overall ambience and relaxed atmosphere with cheerful staff. I liked the more residential location also; it made for a peaceful stay.

Review 45:The effort of the staff to make us pay extra for going on an upper floor and "buying" a breakfast

Review 46:The cleanliness the staff the soft mattress

Review 47:A mini-bar in the room would be nice, but in general there are no negatives about the hotel given the price they are setting the rooms at.

Review 48:Good location near to the old town. Friendly, cozy "boutique" atmosphere. Well equipped, comfortable room representing good value for money.

Review 49:A bit far from the town centre for my liking (though there are frequent buses to the centre from the bus stop just around the corner).

Review 50:If you are familiar with Hampshire Classic hotels you know what to expect. Excellent quality rooms & facilities throughout. Situated in a residential area outside the town centre if was very quiet at night.

Review 51:Excellent hotel in a quiet, attractive, tree-lined street near restaurants and attractions. Staff were friendly and helpful, providing directions, good dining recommendations, etc. Variety of room choices at very reasonable cost. Comfortable beds and modern bathroom. Very clean.

Review 52:The shower cubicle is a bit crammed for the average Dutchman.

Review 53:The quiet peaceful location. The stately atmosphere. The library, the cold beer at the end of the day in the garden. Lovely staff to make all the right bits work together.

Review 54:- the room was unpleasently smelly - our bathroom was not cleaned (they did not even had a look into the bathroom) - the room was very small - very bad value for money ratio - 25 min walk from the train station

Review 55:- nice view from the balcony - calm place

Review 56:This is nitpicking but other travellers might want to know that the shower room and cupboard were quite small. The room itself was a good size however.

Review 57:Located about 2k from Utrecht town centre. We slept very well (comfy beds and quiet location). Bicycles were readily available for hire and they were in good condition, making trips to town centre and the surrounding countryside very easy! Breakfast was delicious with lots of choice of breads, fruit etc. Staff welcoming and friendly. Booking a cab to the airport from the front desk saves you a lot of money!

Review 58:The hotel is close to the Uithof campus of Utrecht University. The staff was very willing to help with tram details and directions and was very friendly. The hotel is in a quiet street in an elegant part of the city. I felt safe coming and going as a single woman traveller.

Review 59:Had to wait almost an hour before the room was ready for checking in. The room was a little bit chilli at night.

Review 60:Very nice staff. Very big rooms. Quiet location. Lovely garden outside. A walk away from nice coffee bars and bus stop to the city center. They have a nice variety of soaps and shampoos.

Review 61:Shared balcony/terrace so no privacy Price was above average WiFi free but bandwidth very limited No keep fit or leisure facilities

Review 62:Located in a quiet part of the city Close enough to walk to center Plenty of dining out options Free WiFi Clean room, with a nespresso machine! Great breakfast

Review 63:Can't think of anything we disliked.

Review 64:The staff at the desk were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable. The price of car parking all over Utrecht is exorbitant, but the hotel arranged a substantial discount.

Review 65:The room we were given was in the basement and suffered badly from damp. It smelt damp, it felt damp, and there were mushrooms growing in the corner of the room. Clearly this was a longterm problem that had not been addressed. When we complained twice about the room we were given a level 1 room that was very nice. Unfortunately the house keeping staff were not up to scratch, a light was out in the bathroom for the full 4 nights, bin bags weren't replaced, espresso glass not cleaned, bathroom soup was empty, dirty & damp cleaning cloth left on top of our clothes for us to find.

Review 66:Excellent friendly staff Good sized rooms Comfortable beds Lovely peaceful location Good continental breakfast Free Wifi Local bars and shops are very nice within 5 min of hotel. 15 min walk to centre

Review 67:Quiet but handy location to the city centre, fantastic value, beautiful garden, comfortable room with everything you need, very friendly staff, perfect!

Review 68:beds are too soft, aircondition did not work, rooms on groundfloor really not nice

Review 69:breakfast in the garden, situation ok if you go by bicycle into citycenter (bicycles to rent in the lobby:-))

Review 70:While the hotel is a 15 minute walk into the city centre, regular buses run into town just a short - and pleasant - 5 minute tree-lined walk from the hotel. The area the hotel is located in is surprisingly quiet and peaceful, just what you need after a busy day. The Malie staff are all great and do all they can to make you feel at home and comfortable. The hotel can provide tips and advice if you are new to the city. The beds are very comfortable. Breakfast is varied and good, including great coffee(!), and you start your day looking out onto a private courtyard garden area (also accessible to hotel guests). The hotel does not offer dinner, but staff can advise - in this city there is plenty of choice, just a short distance away. Bikes can be rented for about €8 a day. On departure day, after check out, the hotel can safeguard your cases/heavy bags so you can go out and return to collect them later. When visiting Utrecht we would stay here again, for sure!
