Reviews for Heure Bleue Palais - Relais & Châteaux
Review 1:We enjoyed our stay very much. Staff were very attentive. If the hotel was a modern one you would pick holes in some of the décor, but these defects add to the ambience of the hotel. It is walking distance to everything and quite safe for women. The food was very very good and we thought a reasonable price for a Relais Chateau Hotel. We will visit again
Review 2:If im really picky there was no hot water in basin and a bath only in room 18 - part of the character
Review 3:Nothing is too much trouble for lovely staff, great location for medina and beach but an escape to the roof was a welcome alternative.
Review 4:Not as warm and friendly staff as other local places, rooms are small, it is very overpriced compared to other hotels in the proximity. Location in the old town of Essaouira is not the best. Wouldn't stay again.
Review 5:Luxury hotel with very nice rooftop area, however feels very stiff and a bit too business oriented in a leisure type of location.
Review 6:Breakfast buffet was uneven - sometimes great, sometimes with a "picked out" feel even before the first guests arrived... On a couple of occasions, some of the cold cuts looked stale and at one time smelled a bit off.
Review 7:Wonderful, friendly staff and an atmospheric setting.
Review 8:no faults
Review 9:Could not fault this beautiful hotel and lovely staff. Perfect Christmas Day in the luxury suite with a fireplace. Rooftop swimming was amazing. Food was exceptional and the whole ambiance was amazing. Cannot wait to stay again :)
Review 10:Everything we needed was available and more. The staff were very attentive and always friendly and professional. Have already recommended to friends. Great location and good advice when requested.
Review 11:Amazing friendly, helpful caring staff & fantastic colonial feel, especially in the bar/lounge area. Courtyard was a tranquil oasis even when the atmosphere outside was poor due to dust & surf blown mists.
Review 12:the wonderful team, the amazing courtyard, the beautiful room, the wonderful view (into the courtyard) the contrast between the rough exterior the medina of essaouira and the paradise behind the entrance of heure bleue palais
Review 13:The room had problems. We had no water in the shower and the sink was plugged, but they came and fixed it.
Review 14:The staff was so friend and helpful, great location.
Review 15:Rapport qualité/prix..... Too expensive.... My room had a humidity smell... not conveniant for allergic people.
Review 16:The venue is nice as well as the service.
Review 17:nothing really.. the only thing i would change is to play some nice soft music in the courtyard
Review 18:super nice service, really sweet people and very well trained on how to make you feel comfortable and welcome. Beautiful rooms
Review 19:We had an amazing week at this stunning boutique hotel. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff at the hotel. The food was delicious and everywhere immaculate. We will definitely be going back to this haven.
Review 20:I'm being picky, the restaurant manager could smile a bit more!
Review 21:The staff were helpful and attentive, nothing too much trouble. The facilities were great, our suite was so comfortable and spacious. Restaurants, food and service was fabulous. Great pool and roof terrace.
Review 22:The only thing I would comment on is the variation in price as it is printed on the wall in the room and that is not the price we paid despite apparently getting a good deal. For the price stated in the room this place is fantastic value for money. Except a very special occasion I would not be able to afford to stay here again.
Review 23:Loved the luxury feeling of the place for my birthday and the facilities like the roof top pool, cinema and pool table room were fun. Personally I would have the exquisite breakfast served on the roof terrace as it was in another riad as its wonderful to eat outside in the morning.
Review 24:The only negative was the lack of attention to detail - room set-up was wrong and had to keep requesting basics.
Review 25:Great staff, lovely environment and good food. On the edge of the medina and just 5 mins from the beach.
Review 26:The Heure Bleue is truly a palace trapped in time. From the moment you arrive there is an air of luxury and sophistication that continues throughout the property. From the intricate tile flooring, stone columns and immaculate rooftop pool, this establishment is a portrait of opulence. Plan to have dinner in the Salon Oriental, the food is incredible and the wine is sourced locally from vineyards owned by the Palais.
Review 27:just check your bill when you leave as we have been overcharged, just wrong calculation i guess, nothing intentional! wifi is very poor, so no good for work but computer downstairs. Rooms a little tired and Humid but that's Essaouira! :) don't go there if you want St Tropez!
Review 28:amazing oasis in the busy Medina...very well located and unique place . The restaurant is amazing for Fish but rich! beware of the generous portions! i would recommend to anyone going to Essaouira.
Review 29:The decor is tired and the bedrooms could do with refurbishment. They are dark, dusty and not particularly comfortable. The restaurant was a great disappointment, very little fresh food, most pre prepared, unchanged menu and not at all what we expected from a Relais & Chateaux hotel. Consequently we gave up after a couple of mediocre meals. Breakfast buffet was fine. It seems others share our views as the restaurant was deserted most evenings and there was a complete lack of ambiance.
Review 30:A beautiful historic building conveniently located at the edge of the souk. Helpful, friendly staff. The hotel has a charming roof terrace.
Review 31:Wifi strength was poor and although the hotel was clean and tidy, it felt a little dated
Review 32:Staff were friendly and helpful, rooftop terrace and pool nice and relaxing, good location - close to the perimeter of the medina
Review 33:nothing -everything was good
Review 34:Heure Blue is a very stylish hotel yet affordable to someone who wants to stay in a hotel that's something special .The roof top terrace is a bonus with pool with views of the beach .
Review 35:due to the age of the building, can smell a little "old" at times in the rooms. Showers are not new, thus water pressure not that strong.
Review 36:Breakfast buffet was amazing! choice of fresh fruit, cheese, yogurt, pastries, plus made to order eggs, crepes and hot drinks.
Review 37:a little pricey. difficult to find the hotel parking.
Review 38:style of the hotel. the quality of the food and level of service. the location was perfect for exploring the area.
Review 39:The hotel food not the best! Breakfast choice extensive but that's where it stopped! The main lounge too dark and no bar whilst the the dining room lacked ambience. The service by the pool was at times non existent- and the rooftop pool itself was far too cold to swim when the wind blew (which was 5 out of the 7 days we were there)! We subsequently learned Essaouiria is called The Windy City!! Great if you're a kite surfer. Pity as it spoilt our week a bit - gets to you!
Review 40:It's position within the town. The uber friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable bed in sizeable suite. Easy access to both the medina, the port and the beach.
Review 41:Wifi is slow, but why should anyone need wifi on holidays anyway?! :)
Review 42:The hotel is really amazing, as well as the staff. You feel like they really want to make the best of your stay. The rooftop is incredible, food the best I ever ate and nicer staff is really hard to find ! Enjoy your stay- you will not regret it !
Review 43:Unpleasant smell in the room, hard bed, small room with no outside (just inside) window, credit card charges. As to the credit card charges, we should have paid 282 EUR for our stay and wanted to pay with credit card, explicitly asking if they could charge us is Morrocan Dirham because of better exchange rates with our bank. The answer of the hotel staff was afirmative. However, when asking us to enter the PIN number, the shown amount was 309 EUR, so we asked again if they could charge us in Dirham and were told that the amount entered into the machine is in Dirham and the amount shown in EUR is only for informative reasons. Later, when we overlooked our card balance sheet, we found out that that wasn't true and that we were charged 309 EUR. So be careful with this hotel. Nowhere else in Morocco paying in Dirham by credit cards was a problem.
Review 44:Stuff treating you, roof pool, breakfast area.
Review 45:The spa service is very poor. I had a facial was left there to wait for my mask to dry for 20mins. No head or shoulder massage. It cost 55euro . I think is very expensive considering the spa lady barely did anything . Apart from putting some cream and mask on me . Internet signal was very weak everywhere in the hotel Shower was very unstable, had blocked drainage .
Review 46:Staff were very helpful and friendly. They upgraded our room for 4nights. The pool and roof terrace was great .
Review 47:the reading light in the bar, which is also a library, is too dim to read easily. But I understand not everyone wants to read over cocktails.
Review 48:Truly elegant, traditional, fabulous. Service amazing. I got sick and they had and extremely competent doctor come to the hotel immediately. Then staff filled my prescription. I paid about $40 for the doctor and $10 for the antibiotics. One night it was pouring rain, we were exhausted, and we couldn't stand getting soaked walking to our dinner reservation. Without hesitation they assembled a table for 5 in their fancy, full dining room like it was nothing.
Review 49:Definitely overprice for essaouira. The hotel needs to be renovated. Breakfast super expensive and you pay for it even if you dont have it. Far from what you can expect from a relais et chateaux
Review 50:We spent one night, Wednesday 15 April in suite 18 of this hotel. Problems: at three in the morning, trying to turn on the light we find out the suite was out of electricity. Calls to reception and visit by electrician who switching keys on and off made electricity return….for ten minutes and then blackout again; so, I did the same as the electrician but selecting a different key and we recovered our lights. The bathroom door will not close, no matter what: it is not very delicate for anybody. There is no light in the seating part of the suite, only a picture lightly illuminated: impossible to read. There is no power outlet anywhere near the desk so you can’t plug your computer, phone and what have you. Not a place I will return.
Review 51:On the positive: staff is courteous and correct and the hotel is very well located in the Essaouira Medina.
Review 52:The rooms were a little small for 2 people and could do with more natural light from the windows. We felt a little claustrophobic. The 1 hour massage is too pricey at close to MAD 790.
Review 53:The location within the medina walls is great! The staff were all very friendly, especially the porter Mamadou and the waiter Farouk! They made us feel at home with their warmth and smiles. The rooftop terrace is a winner!
Review 54:To be a Relais & Chateaux, they need to catch up on up-keep and staff training. Staff were difficult to talk to in English and were not very welcoming. Pool deck is dirty and old; other parts of hotel in need of care. Staff welcome and clear communication need to be improved.
Review 55:The hotel is like a museum to colonial days -- and I loved that about it. Felt like a scene from Out of Africa, the courtyar, the bar, the guys at the doors. But the place is a tired -- it needs a good scrubbing (outside the rooms; the rooms were very clean), especially the roof deck. It needs upgrading to match its luxury price. Location is fantastic and view from roof is quite nice. Loved breakfast in the courtyard and being right in the Medina.
Review 56:Only small complaint is the pool area, need some improvements.
Review 57:Beautiful hotel with exceptional friendly and professional staff! Great food and service.
Review 58:Beds are a bit hard, but then this is the standard in Morocco.
Review 59:Staff that make a difference, food that excel your experience and an environment that wish you would stay longer.
Review 60:The bath tub and bathroom would require some thought and renovation.
Review 61:It is great place with exceptional service. Diner, breakfast and cocktails were very good. The bedroom was very comfortable. Only the bathroom could improved. Buy everything was cleaned and high standard.
Review 62:The heated pool was not heated; that was a huge disappointment. The room was cold (we were there during an unusally cold spell) but fortunately the lovely staff found us an electric heater. Breakfast, and food from the bar menu were excellent, but the quality of the dishes on the fixed price dinner menu was very variable.
Review 63:The staff (their hospitality, professionalism, friendliness: nothing was too much trouble for them) the atmosphere.
Review 64:Felt the dinner menu was a bit limited and the entrees not quite up to par. Anyone who has a shellfish allergy would find it more so far.
Review 65:Good warm and welcoming atmosphere. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble.
Review 66:The menu was not clear about which were the first course plates and we ended up ordering a cold small plate instead of a main dish.
Review 67:Very nice staff. Good location. Delicious food. Impeccably clean.
Review 68:The shower in our room didn't work very well. No water pressure and difficult to keep to a constant temperature
Review 69:Beautiful and peaceful. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Breakfast is amazing
Review 70:....but the rest of the hotel is dated. The rooms smell stale, bathrooms are just about acceptable & the beds uncomfortable.
Review 71:The courtyard & terrace/pool are lovely...
Review 72:Hotel is pretty oldish and not very clean either. Needs renovation and a "caring hand". very poor wifi.
Review 73:Perfect location, very nice staff (except the pool guy). Great colonial atmosphere, superb moroccan restaurant, great breakefast and, in genral, the "ambiance" is very pleasant.
Review 74:The hotel was very classy and stylish, clean and comfortable rooms, and fresh tasty food for breakfast. The pool terrace was lovely but the heated pool was only warm on our last day unfortunately. Pool bar food very dear but they serve canopes with every drink so that made up for it!
Review 75:The swimming pool on the roof which overlooked the bay and the Medina and which was protected from the wind. The beautiful palm-filled courtyard where we ate our breakfast.
Review 76:The hotel was fantastic. When we arrived we were upgraded in to a premium room with no extra cost. We were shown around the hotel & the facilities were amazing. The location was great too; easy walking distance to the centre of the medina, the port and the beach. The hotel staff provided us with all the information we needed about Essaouira and were happy to help with any requests that we made. There was so much choice at breakfast which set us up well for the day. A fantastic hotel to match a wonderful seaside town.
Review 77:The minus is that swimming pool closes at 6 pm and there is no service in the roof bar after that. And sometimes there was no wifi in the room
Review 78:Hotel is perfect: great location, very helpful staff, always smiling and polite (especially the doorman with whom we chatted always when entering/leaving the hotel). Bottled water, fruits and dates were replaced every day. The best thing was a roof swimming pool with great views and royal breakfast.
Review 79:proximity to street can be bothersome in mornings for lower floors Comfort and style come at a price
Review 80:quiet and discreet staff, respectful and attentive Location Beautiful terrace with pool (rare in the Medina) Gorgeous colonial type style
Review 81:The hotel organized a surfing lesson for us. The surfing shop ignored us for one hour while the staff drank tea. When its normal opening hour arrived after their tea, they took care of others while we continued to sit in the cafe next door. We were frustrated, the surfing shop lost a lot of money (savings to me) and the hotel made a mistake. I trust that the hotel will not recommend this place again.
Review 82:Almost everything.
Review 83:The A/C in our room was not working and it was hot. Instead of moving us to another room or upgrading us they offered us a 'fan'.
Review 84:The hotel is amazing and the staff were incredibly sweet and nice.
Review 85:Staff was there to help and assist us all the way! .....only had to ask once! Including basket with towels for the beach. Towels, robes were changed twice per day. Gel wash, shampoo and body lotion were in great big bottles! Thank you Kamal, Neomi, Mohamed! And to all the rest of the staff. You exceeded our expectations!
Review 86:Wifi a bit iffy...comes and goes, epecially on the roof poolside area. Safe deposit box...bit of a joke...it was a lightweight plastic box, which wasn't bolted down...anyone could walk off with it...not a place to leave my best plastic watch!! ...told the manager this when he was doing a bit of grandstanding when we were having breakfast...he laughed it off...saying we need to trust our fellow guest...well, I do but not if I had something valuable that needed safekeeper.
Review 87:Wonderful ...brilliant shower....excellent pool....breakfast to die for...great staff.
Review 88:The terrace menu is well over priced, which doesn't ecourage you to stay. €22 for a club sandwich is a bit steep! Breakfast at €25 each is quite expensive too, but there is a lot of choice of fresh food.
Review 89:Great service, well staffed. The facilities are very good too. It's like a haven from the bustling town!
Review 90:The dining area and bedroom. A basic single is very small with no window and very little light making the room feel damp and drab. I think the hotel is nice enough overall but very over-priced ( basic double works out around £125 p/n )and the staff at times were a little difficult to communicate with. One member of staff was quite rude and un-helpful. The breakfast was very basic for a 5 * hotel but the food was reasonable quality. The dining area lacks any atmosphere and it can be quite cold in the breakfast area in the morning as it in an open-air patio down on the ground floor which does not get any sunshine. Sound carries all over the hotel and you could hear the washing machine late at night from a first floor double room so book an expensive top floor suite if you want peace and quiet and a window in your room.
Review 91:swimming pool/ terrace. The hotel has a colonial feel in the decor.
Review 92:No tea / coffee facilities in the room - was charged for tea to be brought to the room which I though was unfair. When it was brought to the room the lady wouldn't give me the tray for some reason (she didn't speak English) and thrust a boiling hot teapot into my hand -ouch! No minibar in the room - when we mentioned this a kind man brought us a fridge, however it would be nice to have some drinks in it! The rooftop pool was freezing (I don't think it's heated). We didn't really use the roof terrace as a result. The room was small and dark - although it was nicely done - all of the rooms face an internal courtyard which means that unless we had the door / window shutters closed people walking past could see in. One of the magazines in the hotel advertised a restaurant / bar called Taros - DON'T GO unless you want to spend two days with food poisoning. When we went to see the owner to complain he was possibly the rudest, vilest man we have ever met. Check your bill at the end - they had added someone else's drinks to ours
Review 93:Staff at front desk very helpful and friendly. We especially liked the door man! The location is good, although not on the beach, but personally I would prefer to be closer to the town so it's only a short walk to the restaurants etc in the evening. The beach is only 5 mins walk away. We arranged a tour through the hotel which I would recommend - although be warned the tour guide we had hardly spoke any English so it was more a case of being shown sites rather than learning about the history etc. The breakfast is great There is a cinema room which is perfect if your feeling a bit tired. We had a drink in the bar before going out to supper which was very nice
Review 94:The staff are fantastic. Hotel is beautiful, roof top pool area fabulous and great location
Review 95:Atmosphere, superb breakfast, rooftop terrace
Review 96:Breakfast can be better, Shower does not work properly.
Review 97:Good value for location and ambiance. Staff very helpful and good lunch & dinner.
Review 98:Service a bit slow
Review 99:An oasis of calm in the heart of the old Medina very close to the port. Everything walkable. Great breakfast.
Review 100:Roof top bar and pool
Review 101:The wifi was quite poor.
Review 102:Very welcoming and friendly staff. Great service and rest facilities including beautiful rooftop pool.
Review 103:Sound isolation is not great (however, it is ok given type of the building), wifi is slow
Review 104:Very nice riad, very careful staff
Review 105:Such a unique hotel - very beautiful. You could really chill out there for a week. Rooftop fabulous. Rooms lovely. Staff very very helpful.
Review 106:Lovely and welcoming staff, nothing is too much trouble. The staff, the design and ambiente of the hotel, made us feel very special.
Review 107:Poor WIfI
Review 108:Arrived stressed needing a break,Beautiful Hotel lovely friendly staff
Review 109:Everything, the peace and calm among the hustle and bustle outside. The staff always smiling and great service.
Review 110:The single beds are very narrow.
Review 111:The restaurant, the pool and the atmosphere. The medina location.
Review 112:Everything the staff were 1st class, breakfast to die for, plus we ate in the restaurant 2 nights and the food and service excellant
Review 113:It is close to the beach in a walking distance, not on the shore.
Review 114:I liked every thing about this property.
Review 115:Everything
Review 116:Super friendly staff, nothing is too much trouble. Excellent service. Excellent food. Good location.
Review 117:EVERYTHING
Review 118:Smoking shouldn't be allowed on the premises.
Review 119:Location, decor
Review 120:Great facilities, very charming and comfortable, great ambience. Very good.
Review 121:no bad experiences to mention
Review 122:the staff, the room and the roof top pool and bar
Review 123:Awful beds
Review 124:Great breakfast
Review 125:Bit noisy, very poor internet connection
Review 126:Nice place, very good breakfast, nice rooftop, standard room basic but ok
Review 127:The quality of bed and linings. They should be changed!
Review 128:Impeccable service. Magical atmosphere.
