Reviews for Riad Malaïka
Review 1:Lovely ambience in this beautifully restored raid in a quiet & central location in the medina. Traditionally furnished, comfortable room with good-sized bathroom. Breakfasts delicious and changed every day. Excellent well-priced dinners served around cosy fireplace. Owners & staff consistently helpful with information, advice and any bookings. Highly recommended!
Review 2:walls very thin, we could hear our neighbours in the next room.
Review 3:beautiful riad in the medina, lovely internal courtyard and rooftop area. Staff were very kind and helpful.
Review 4:A little bit noisy in the night time and slightly wet bed (in january).
Review 5:In general we like everything and especially good traditional moroccan breakfast with tangerine juice and fresh baked pancakes! Location of the riad is perfect, not difficult to find using google maps, 5 minutes walk from the port parking.
Review 6:Nothing. All fab.
Review 7:The riad is beautiful and the staff are fabulous. They were happy to recommend and book activities for us at no cost. Restaurant area very nice and cosy too. Rooms all different and very tasteful. Very pleased with my choice!
Review 8:the photos on booking are gorgeous, unfortunately the real deal is not as fabulous :) bit outdated
Review 9:- clean - good breakfast - great staff - great location
Review 10:Each room is different, but our standard double bedroom was on the small side, so we didn't have enough places to stow our 'stuff', which had ballooned in quantity after two weeks of shopping! The riad does not have air conditioning, but they provided us with a room fan for better air circulation.
Review 11:The riad was charming and tastefully appointed. Breakfast was different each day, included an egg option, and was nicely served in their beautiful common areas. Didn't have a chance to eat dinner there, even though we stayed for four nights…so many dining choices in beautiful Essaouira!
Review 12:Decor is not as elaborate or refined as some of riads in Marrakech. It's quite a hike to upper floor rooms. Terrace room is penthouse but the terrace is not private therefore it is not worth paying extra for.
Review 13:Excellent chief and reasonable price for quality of dinner (18 euros pp.).
Review 14:A bit tricky to find the Riad but if you follow the Malaika's instructions to call them when you arrive at the parking lot, a porter will be sent to collect your luggage and guide you to the Riad.
Review 15:We loved that owners left the authentic Moroccan home in the renovation. Our room was comfortable and spacious.
Review 16:We asked the staff for a recommendation for a good Hammam (turkish style bath & massage). The one the Riad sent us too was cheap but also old, dirty and not authentic turkish bath procedure. In the future perhaps they could recommend a higher quality hammam, as well.
Review 17:Authentic Riad! Our room was on the top floor (many winding steps) but we really loved our suite with the most beautiful black stone sink and tub. The breakfast was very delicious and special along with the superb service.
Review 18:The room smelled due to the water coming from the shower and lack of ventilation in the room. The bed was was also not so comfortable.
Review 19:The location and breakfast were good. When we came in the staff was very nice and gave us a quick orintation of the area during our welcome tea but unfortunately from that moment there was not so much interaction like we got used to from other riads.
Review 20:The rooms are a little small, I wouldn't say the Riad is pristine, but it is clean and comfortable. The host was friendly, but didn't go above and beyond.
Review 21:The location is great. The decor is beautiful and very traditional Moroccan. The breakfasts are amazing! For the price, this place offers great value!
Review 22:Very loud!!! Expect to sleep very little while staying here. Since there is no A/C in the rooms need to sleep with windows open to get air. Because of the traditional structure of Riad you can hear everything! Prayer is at 5am, staff start working around 7am , which creates a morning with very little sleep due to constant sounds vibrating throught the Riad. Pillows are also really uncomfortable.
Review 23:Beautiful Riad in a great location. Staff were extremely helpful and breakfast (which is included) was delicious each morning
Review 24:The terrace being closed to us one night, we were a large group of eight and chatting on terrace creates some noise but felt we had been kept off terrace because of one other room that is very close to the terrace whose occupants seemed annoyed that we made any noise at all as though it was their own personal terrace.
Review 25:All very lovely helpful staff, we had a warm welcome. All the rooms are quite exquisite. The breakfasts were very good, we did not eat dinner so cannot comment but the smarlls wafting frim kitchen smelled divine. Ideal location in the town. Recommend to all.
Review 26:Fab trip, staff very helpful - Riad was lovely, a lot of thought had been put into it. Each morning s different breakfast and I need gluten free which they easily provided. Location of Riad is just off one of the main streets, so perfect. Riad organised taxis from and to airport :)
Review 27:It would be nice if there were towels available on the root terrace for the sunbeds
Review 28:Staff is wonderful, genuinely warm, helpful and welcoming. The food is amazing and you should absolutely try the dinner there at least once, it is delicious and beautifully presented. Amina is a very talented chef, presenting traditional Moroccan recipes with a creative, contemporary twist. 5star quality at very reasonable price. You need to book in advance as all the food is prepared from scratch from fresh local ingredients. The breakfasts are great too and served any time. They changed every day but always include freshly squeezed orange juice, eggs, a variety of freshly baked breads/cake, home made jams.
Review 29:We liked everything.
Review 30:Riad Malaika is THE place to stay in Essaouria. We visited the Riad for our honeymoon and our stay at Riad Malaika was outstanding. Both of us are elite traveler for several hotel chains such as SPG, Hilton and Club Carlson (we travel a lot due to work) and even on those 5-star hotels we had never experience the service quality and care that the Riad's staff provided. They recommended us cheap tours, places to eat and even a haman place. They cooked a special cake and gave us a bottle of wine due to our honeymoon. Simply outstanding.
Review 31:We had a wonderful time at the Riad - everything was beautifully done and delivered with such elegance and care. The food was sublime - an experience we feel very lucky to have shared.
Review 32:The terrace is locked at midnight. I wonder what goes on up there? Am I just not invited? One day, maybe...
Review 33:All as it would have been and indeed should be in a house one calls home away from home. I would never stay anywhere else any more in town.. And it has a lot of good hotels.
Review 34:The room was a little small but adequate for our needs. Regarding Essaouira, we felt our 'unsafest' here as the audacity of the thieves and pickpockets was beyond anything we had seen in Marrakech - in 2 days, I caught a man going into my rucksack on my back and witnessed another grabbing a woman's bag. Do take care!
Review 35:The riad was in a Great position in the medina whilst still remaining quiet and intimate. The staff were extremely helpful and nervous from the bus. The details throughout the riad were exquisite.
Review 36:Absolutely gorgeous riad, like being on a retreat! Hosts went above and beyond to give us an amazing trip! Everything was just beautiful! The pool was a treat, the food 5 star and all the decor, eye for detail made for a luxurious, amazing Moroccan holiday!!
Review 37:This Riad is absolutely beautiful, totally comfortable and in a great location. Every member of the staff is kind, polite, helpful, cheerful and sincere. Breakfast is amazing. Every little detail of this hotel is a delight to the senses. Oh- and its a fabulous deal.. not overpriced at all. This is probably the best review I've ever given a hotel:) And they deserve it.
Review 38:We liked our stay at Riad Malaika, all the staff and even the Owner Ms.Sylvie and her husband are all very accommodating. We preferred to stayin a Riad because of the personal attachment. Here, you do not have a tvor a Refrigerator but that is fine because we were treated as a verySpecial Guest, they give you whatever your request is. Tv though is notan issue since I never watch tv when we are on vacation. All in all meand my wife are very satisfied and yes, we highly recommend Riad malaikaand will surely comeback again in this Riad next visit. I forget tomention, the location of the Riad is right in the middle of Medinah, anywhere you want to go to is just nearby.
Review 39:A beautiful riad with very helpful and welcoming staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts were delicious. Definitely would recommend highly.
Review 40:none, will book here next time.
Review 41:Convenient location, but you will need a guide the first time. Or better even, an airport pickup. rooms and rooftop area are gorgeous !!
Review 42:We loved everything!
Review 43:Lovely Riad in the heart of the Medina but in a quiet road. The staff were very friendly and looked after us well. The rooftop terrace is an added bonus, great place for escaping the medina and enjoying a bottle of wine. We took our own and the riad kept it in the fridge for us :-)
Review 44:We were woken up in the mornings by the noise of seagulls as the Riad has an open roof and we stayed on the top floor; but this is to be expected in a seaside town.
Review 45:The location was perfect; very central and easy to navigate the town. Breakfast was lovely and freshly made by the staff each morning. The owners were very friendly.
Review 46:A bit inflexible on food, tried to arrange mid afternoon snack on their terrace but was told dinner or nothing. Also not in control of the Riad but the approach street was full of the mess from the many stray cats in the area which detracted from the overall feel.
Review 47:Good breakfast (lots of it), very clean room and helpful management (sorted out Marakech transfer and let us shower after check out after a morning at the beach).
Review 48:Riad Malaïka was perfect. Great location, a rare room in a riad with a window. Calm, quiet, comfortable and clean. The staff was very pleasant and helpful.
Review 49:The staff at this Riad was exceptional, friendly, helpful went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. Riad is well located, clean, excellent breakfast, varied every day. Manager was knowledgeable and offered to do anything he could to enhance our experience.
Review 50:I can't fault it!
Review 51:Absolutely loved our stay at Riad Malaika. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Decor delightful, loved all the interesting little design touches. Great breakfast and relaxing roof terrace.
Review 52:My phone didn't have a network coverage on the ground floor, but that wasn't a problem in the room upstairs. Breakfast portions could be bigger, but options were wide and very tasty. Served on a beautiful roottop terrace, it was a very enjoyable experience.
Review 53:Staff was extremely helpful and attended to all our requests with eager and smile. The riad has a romantic and mysterious beauty - fantastic value for money. Locationwise, you are in the middle of the action, yet it is peaceful and quiet. The mint tea was the best we had in Morocco! Our experience and memories couldn't be more pleasant.
Review 54:I would have liked the addition of a safe in our room, as the front door to the Riad is open all day. I do realise that may be an issue of my English paranoia though! My only other niggle was that the beautifully tiled open shower in our room wasn't very practical, the bathroom floor would end up soaked after showering. But this was a small issue really.
Review 55:Riad Malaika is beautifully decorated and furnished in a traditional style with amazing attention to detail. Just how I imagined a Riad would be. The location is excellent being right in the Medina close to all the souks and restaurants. The roof terrace was a welcome and comfortable escape from the wind. The staff were all friendly and helpful and the breakfasts were really good - with some of the tastiest bread I had in Morocco.
Review 56:It's at the end of a quiet, fairly deserted street, that was dark at night. That said, we always felt safe and it was still easy to find.
Review 57:Riad Malika is a lovely spot near the medina wall, making it easy to hop in and out (to the beach) whenever you want. The staff is INCREDIBLE. I can't speak highly enough of them. Always offering a smile, tea, help with transport or directions. The space itself is filled with delights like bird cages, beautiful artwork and tiles. Our room, while a bit small for two people, was still clean and furnished in traditional, yet also contemporary detail.
Review 58:Like many riads, it takes a bit of time finding your way home but it's all part of the fun!
Review 59:Food and location great. Simple but comfortable accommodation.
Review 60:The roof terrace for breakfast and a beer in the afternoon was great. Don't miss to try the diner. The food was absolutely amazing. Best fruit salad ever.
Review 61:Not a complaint but the rooms are small with the amount of furniture required.
Review 62:Everybody at the Malaika is to be praised for their kindness and help. The breakfasts were delicious and inventive and the lamb tagine was the best I've ever eaten and was certainly the culinary highlight of our holiday. The location made you feel involved with the surroundings. Wifi was an added bonus.
Review 63:In our group we tried out 5 different rooms. It is definitely worth having an internal room as they were quieter. The location is fantastically central so open windows outside will mean early morning calls. Internal rooms have windows opening into the riad square.
Review 64:The riad is very traditional and each room is different. The staff were all very friendly and always happy to help. Clean rooms with bundles of character and comfy mattresses. Food was delicious.
Review 65:High standards in every aspect, but at the same time homemade cakes and exquisite yogurt for breakfast You can really pay by Visa, which is not very common in Rhiads.
Review 66:Street name on maps not as advertised by Booking.com and no signage when you reach the street.
Review 67:Riad was well appointed, staff excellent, very helpful, breakfast very good, next time we will try evening m3al.
Review 68:Loved the bedroom, the breakfast area was beautiful and the rooftop terrace is perfect for relaxing. Such helpful staff too, couldn't rate this place any higher!!
Review 69:Exceptional breakfast - best we've had in Morocco. Very inviting and comfortable sitting area on the ground floor. Lovely room. Manager was very helpful.
Review 70:Typical of being in the medina the room was small and spaces tight. No holder on the wall for the shower head.
Review 71:Decor excellent mix of traditional with a clean modern look.
Review 72:Staff was helpful, friendly, and informative. We had a dinner there was was outstanding. My wife does not eat meat and had a perfectly prepared fish. The dessert was the best. Room was comfortable, clean and inviting.
Review 73:Only small issue was the hand held shower
Review 74:Very professional and friendly staff - nothing too much trouble. Great location, dinner and breakfast was awesome. Lovely decor throughout the Riad.
Review 75:The location of the riad is great as it is just at the heart of the Medina. If you go there for the first-time call the hotel so they can fetch you and show you the way as the passages inside the Medina can be very confusing. They can also give you map of the whole place so you can show yourself around. They also suggest good places where you can visit and dine, depending on your preference. The staff are very accommodating and they served good breakfast and they can prepare a sumptuous dinner upon request. in general, it will make you say that you are really home away from home.
Review 76:We liked everything about our short stay in this well restored ryad. We loved the peaceful atmosphere and décor and the attention to details that made us feel welcome. We appreciated the respect shown to the local culture and cuisine. It was our first trip to Morocco and Ryad Malaika provided us with the best first impression possible. Thank you to the owners for their help with parking, finding a pharmacy, and, last but not least, for booking an exquisite hamman massage that made us believe we were truly in another world! We recommend this excellent address to anyone who wants to mix relaxation, comfort, and quality.
Review 77:The riad is beautifully restored with plenty of charm and comfort. The staff were warm and friendly and the in house chef was especially amazing. We'd recommend it to anyone without a hesitation.
Review 78:So much marble is a little cilly, but the fire warmed everything up very nicely.
Review 79:Well appointed accomodations, professional and helpful staff, special touches for breakfast - lemon cake with orange and lemon zest, yogurt with mint and almond, fresh flowers... What a treat!
Review 80:Leaving.
Review 81:The best! Sylvie and Piermark = Thank you. Magnifique! :) Like all businesses. Start with the people. The owners, above, run this riad with incredible passion and care. Equally their team. The best. Attending to every need and always on hand with a smile, a greeting, offers of advise, refreshments. You cannot put a price on this service level. You cannot buy what these people give you. They care. It's a people thing. Now. The food. What they create in that small, (immaculate), kitchen is incredible. It is 5* eating. The dinner is, like the headline, exceptional. Read the other reviews and Trip Ad. Essaouira is lovely. And Malaika is the way to stay! Thank you for everything.
Review 82:- Cold (in January) - No safe
Review 83:- Friendly, helpful staff - Excellent cooking - Cosy, unique atmosphere - Quiet surroundings close to lots of restaurants, cafés and shops
Review 84:Some of the room amenities could be sorted - shower space gets wet easily in the room we stayed in and flush was a bit haphazard.
Review 85:The design, friendliness of staff, excellent service and location.
Review 86:Walking past the kitchen made me hungry at all hours of the day.
Review 87:Wonderful experience in a beautiful, carefully run Riad in the heart of the medina. There is no ocean view, but I prefer the views into the city anyway. Best hotel/riad breakfast we had in our two weeks in Morocco, thanks to the guiding hands of the gracious French proprietors
Review 88:There was nothing to dislike.
Review 89:the accommodation is exquisite and tastefully done. The staff are very helpful and courteous. We had a dinner in this riad and the food was excellent and beautifully presented. One of our favorite meals in Morocco. .
Review 90:Not having a sea view
Review 91:Such style and comfort and total luxury The breakfast was simply wonderful and different everyday Our evening meal cooked by an incredible chef would be worthy of a Michelin Star. Honestly !
Review 92:Room could be somewhat noisy depending on other guests and whether they smoked and used cell phones in the courtyard area
Review 93:Loved our stay at malaika. Met at bus depot as promised and escorted to the riad. Had pre-ordered dinner as recommended in previous reviews, not disappointed as it was excellent as was breakfast. Location was great for exploring and a haven to return to.
Review 94:The best breakfasts we had in Morocco and we had an amazing dinner wonderfully presented. Friendly place with easy walks to ramparts, port, souks and beach
Review 95:While the authenic tiling was lovely, the bathroom floor appeared quite dirty and was a bit offputting.
Review 96:The riad is very conveniently located, the welcome is warm and the decor is beautiful
Review 97:Nothing to dislike
Review 98:Absolutely perfect. We were met at the bus station at no cost to us. The owners greeted us and knew that my wife had a gluten intolerance so they made her gluten free bed. We had the dinner and it was the best we have eaten in morocco.

Review 112:Staff friendly. Food was good. Excellent location for touring and sightseeing. Helpfull staff for sightseeing tips. Breakfast till 12.30
Review 113:We had a great time @Malaika! The staff is very professional, friendly and helpful, the Riad is well restored to its old glory... with great attention to detail. The place is well and tastefully decorated, including little touches such as fresh white roses on tables and in the rooms. The roof terrace is a great place to chill during the day or the evening, away from the crowds and the wind. Oh, and the food is absolutely amazing... Try the evening menus and you will not be disappointed ! Plus everything is cooked on site from fresh ingredients... you also have the chance to see the kitchen team in action and ask for some cooking tips. Highly recomended!
Review 114:No faults at all - a Gantastic experience
Review 115:A Surprise Birthday cake made especially for me, by their Chief Mina. Fantastic (how do I upload a picture(s) ???.
Review 116:Riad Malaika is a beautiful and charming space, and the photos online don't do it justice. It was amazing to come back to a fireplace burning in one of the lounges off of the courtyard on a windy afternoon Friendly staff went out of their way to orient me in the city. The restaurant they recommended was outstanding! The food they served at the Riad was also excellent and when you walked by the kitchen, it smelled amazing.
Review 117:Not enough ventilation in room---perhaps they have a fan? We forgot to ask!
Review 118:Attentive, quiet staff Wonderful meals Fast & reliable wifi Beautifully designed hotel with gracious Moroccan textiles everywhere Lovely staff that catered to our every wish
Review 119:There was a bit of noise from nearby property but that couldn't be helped.
Review 120:Very helpful staff they couldnt do enough for you. The meal we had there was one of the best of our whole trip.
Review 121:The only complaint was that 5 of us were seated at a low round table for breakfast, and one of us was very tall, so a little uncomfortable.
Review 122:Everything. The breakfasts were wonderful, and the meal we had there one evening was excellent. The staff were all helpful and friendly.
