Reviews for Quinta Real Oaxaca
Review 1:Pillows were awful. Cocktails were weak for the price. There was an odd smell of sewage at times - we suspected bathrooms may have been vented into the central air duct. We were charged $60mex for two very small bottles of water one night. We found giant JUGS of water around the corner for only $25mex - this made a bad impression on me.
Review 2:Great location, beautiful property, friendly staff. Lots of restaurants and shops within easy walking distance. The hotel felt very secure. The breakfast buffet was amazing and delicious. The front desk staff helped us hire a driver for four hours so we could visit the Sunday market in Tlocolula and Teotitlan de Valle.
Review 3:The rooms are not suites as advertised. My room was comfortable and clean but a lot smaller and darker than I expected.
Review 4:The hotel was beautiful and in a great location.
Review 5:No bad experiences.
Review 6:Loved the gardens and the picturesque setting. Did not eat at the restaurant. There is a great place for lattes and croissants around the corner.
Review 7:One of the best hotels I've ever been into! Great location in the center of Oaxaca, former convent renewed into luxurious hotel, nice and friendly staff, 24-hours safe-guard at the entrance
Review 8:Our room was on the ground floor and next to the noisy road. There was construction work going on across the road. Passersby can look right into your room. Insufficient lighting, you have to open your door and windows which limits your privacy. Every night there was loud music and partying going on outside. Our room floor was very dirty and only one pair of bedroom slippers were provided, I had to keep washing my feet! The bathroom was very cramped and the shower is separated from the toilet with a shower curtain - that's just not 5* standard for 2016. Insufficient water provided (in small bottles) and one coffee sachet for the entire stay. Toiletries were only topped up and a second pair of slippers provided because of a tip. Had breakfast at the hotel once, and it was the worst breakfast in my 6 weeks in all of Mexico, especially when presented with a bill of +-$700 pesos. The monks lighting the hallways in the evening was terribly eery, and the mariachi band in the courtyard at breakfast every morning became tedious and loud. We'd arranged to extend our stay and the hotel offered to give us the same rate as our first night on Booking.com, but the next day we saw that Booking.com was offering a superior suite at a much lower rate so we took it, much to the annoyance of the hotel staff at reception who had a bitching session in Spanish during the reservation extention thinking I wouldn't understand, but I'm of Latin origin. After that we cut the rest of our time in Oaxaca short and moved on to our next destination.
Review 9:The building is beautiful and has been beautifully restored. Location in the city centre was great, within walking distance to everything
Review 10:It took 3 days to fix air conditioner. While the staff is friendly and helpful, guests need to take the initiative themselves to find out if dinner reservations were made or other requests were followed through. In one case, a requested dinner reservation that was supposed to be made once the restaurant opened was not done and required follow up on our part.
Review 11:Beautiful building and great location
Review 12:Party for independence day lasted until 0200....this was no problem. The problem started when the staff spent all night bursting the balloons that filled the pool (in the colours of the Mexican flag - beautiful incidentally).
Review 13:Great room, pool and food
Review 14:The only downside of our stay was the room service food. Not Oaxaca's finest dining experience.
Review 15:The hotel is extraordinary and the ultimate Oaxaca experience. The grounds are gorgeous and the building is beautiful. The hotel staff are very accommodating.
Review 16:There is a great value to stay in this hotel: Beautiful colonial atmosphere in the 16th-18th century Convent Santa Catalina de Siena. Very good Mexican menu and all kind in restaurant inside or outside facing to patios with full of flowers. Room with antique furniture and high ceiling (5 meters). Kind hotel people and excellent service (for example, amazingly finished house-keeping while breakfast). Very central historical location: 3 minute walk to Templo de Santo Domingo. Many historical sites, museums, shops & restaurants within walking distance.
Review 17:The hotel was unable to provide decaffeinated coffee at breakfast and at the hotel bar (but you had it in your mini-bar in the room) Service at restaurant very slow and somehow not well cohordinated Rooms were nice but small and one of them very noisy due to a little bar just opposite the hotel
Review 18:The building of the hotel
Review 19:To pay for wifi (second gadget) is not comparable with the impeccable status of the hotel. The room lacks enough electric sockets to load your gadgets as i-phone, tablet etc. but of coarse this is not a business hotel. Be aware that weddings in weekends can make a lot of noise in the whole hotel.
Review 20:Location in central Oaxaca near the beautiful Santo Domingo church and museum. The hotel itself has nice gardens. Rooms are not very big, but nice. The restaurant is cosy and serves great food.
Review 21:Pool was unheated.
Review 22:Beautifully restored convent. A quiet retreat from bustling exciting central historic Oaxaca. Excellent staff. Food and wines are very good. Rooms are spotless and beds are exceptionally comfortable. Lovely pool area to read and relax.
Review 23:On the day to we checked out Front desk staff were very mechanical -we asked to check out an hour later than check out time and were denied without explanation
Review 24:Location Beach and Staff
Review 25:Warning: this is an old building, and at least one of the staircases is treacherously steep. (But children didn't seem to mind.) Although the location is extremely convenient, this is not the hotel for those on a budget.
Review 26:The hotel is in what used to be a monastery. The interior courts and gardens are very pleasant. The room was not very large, but everything was clean and modern and well-equipped.
Review 27:It needs to provide free internet.
Review 28:We enjoyed the hotel and appreciate the service provided by most of the staff. The grounds are outstanding. Breakfast each morning in the court yard was a delight. Its central location made for an easy travel experience.
Review 29:Safe broken - was offered another room though. The noise from middle class children at the pool!
Review 30:Great building - thick walls - spaces.
Review 31:Wish the rooms where bigger
Review 32:Awesome location nice experience
Review 33:The restaurant is utterly uncharming and good not great
Review 34:room on first floor was great probably louder on street level Very comfortable bed
Review 35:remarkable attention to detail
Review 36:No iron in the rooms
Review 37:The location and the nice building
Review 38:The Chef
Review 39:The room was too small for a kingsize be d, you could barely walk.
Review 40:Very helpful, in the centre, great breakfast
Review 41:Dinner in the restaurant was disappointing.
Review 42:Beautiful historic hotel very sympathetically restored and converted. Great bed. Really worth a stay.
Review 43:The facility is really old, needs major revamp. Washroom is min 30 years old, room decoration very old, bed is super old.
Review 44:The location.
Review 45:The fact that the final price was higher than the quote from Booking.com (20 per cent) for taxes etc.
Review 46:Well maintained gardens and courtyards
Review 47:every little thing costs extra, as it is an old monastry it's all a bit dark but shure has its charm
Review 48:excellent staff , excellent location
Review 49:Pretty expensive Internet/WiFi
Review 50:Comfort Location Staff Cleanliness
Review 51:Breakfast Location Comfort
Review 52:A lovely oasis of calm in a great location within a great town - with lots of cafes/restaurants/galleries all within easy walking distance
Review 53:pay for extra device wifi ridiculous
Review 54:Location and facilities
Review 55:- No parking lot, but only quite expensive private valet parking - No breakfast included - Internet not included
Review 56:- Great building - Nice pool
Review 57:Not much really. My only criticism is the cost, but we expected a hotel of that level of quality to be expensive.
Review 58:The location was excellent, the hotel itself was beautiful and the staff were extremely attentive and accommodating.
Review 59:Leaving
Review 60:Food, staff, grounds. Everything is top notch and keeps me coming back. Underrated restaurant for dinner. With so many other options in town to choose from, guests tend to head out come dinner time (which is completely understandable). Stay in one night, sit down for a few Michelada's and take your pick from the menu. All of their food is outstanding.
Review 61:A lot...your staff need further training in customer service with the exception of the busboys
Review 62:Not much..The bus boys were very nice.i have stayed at the Camino Real for the past 10 years almost every year. I doubt that I will ever stay there again. The maid knocked on my door at 7:45 am to clean my room. I was sleeping. The next day there were no washcloths in the bathroom.
Review 63:Our room was right on the street and very noisey due to traffic and people walking past, etc. Great place to stay, but ask for an internal room with double glazing
Review 64:Great location in Central Oaxaca near the cathedral, shops, cafes and restaurants. Walk to the main plaza and the markets.
Review 65:This is a wonderful 5 Hotel. I took my mother for a trip of a life time. It is expensive, but for those who want to splurge this is the place. Spanish is useful with the staff beyond the front desk. I personally don't expect my housekeeper (in one of Mexico's poorest states) to speak English !
Review 66:The February weather is perfect for sleeping with windows open, but for those rooms with windows that open onto a street, the street noise is considerable. Best to take a room with a window onto a courtyard.
Review 67:Courtyards, architecture, restaurant
Review 68:Unfriendly, if not defiant reception during check-in. Final price noticeably above initial offer online. Pool useless, no lobby.
Review 69:Beautiful location, perfect room service.
Review 70:I ended up paying a little more than I wanted to. If I had to complainabout one thing it would be that the value of the hotel experience mighthave been a little less than what I paid
Review 71:The hotel was beautiful and very well kept The location is perfect, close to the center of the city, restaurants, and shops The staff wasvery friendly and helpful but not overly assertive... Pleasant
Review 72:There is no free wi-fi anywhere in the hotel. This has become thestandard even for budget hotels and is something that should beaddressed.
Review 73:The building itself is unforgettable. The architecture and gardens areso evocative of history, and the natural beauty combined with the decoraccents are beautiful and tasteful. The staff could not have been morewelcoming and helpful.
Review 74:Nothing
Review 75:Fabulous old building close to town centre. Staff were absolutely fantastic all round.
Review 76:rooms were badly designed and interiors need updating
Review 77:liked being in such a historic building
Review 78:the restaurant is overrated - prices slightly too high for Mexico
Review 79:location, setting, surroundings
Review 80:The mix of style and kitsch. The (hopefully) temporary painting exhibition was horrific...
Review 81:The location, the old building, the food.
Review 82:The room was small and dingy.
Review 83:The building itself and the location are excellent. The staff were very friendly and efficient.
Review 84:everything
