Reviews for Hotel CasAntica
Review 1:The breakfast was ok but not great.
Review 2:The hotel is located in an old building that we enjoyed a lot. There is also a small swimming pool and the room was small but really comfortable. The staff was really helpful and very kind to let us use the room a couple of hours before check in time. The position is perfect to have a nice walk and reach the centre of the city in ten minutes.
Review 3:Room was quite small Lots of internal noise
Review 4:Location is excellent near the centre of town Wifi worked well inc in the room Staff were responsive to requests Hotel architecture was beautiful
Review 5:The hotel is really cute, great location you can walk anywhere in the city. Also the staff was great, they gave us early check in. They were always very helpful when pointing out things to do or restaurants to check out.
Review 6:Would have preferred the second room to have more comfortable lounge furniture instead of another bed, but we understand that it probably gets used for family accommodation.
Review 7:We rented a master suite and it was great - spacious, airy, very good bed, water provided daily, good internet, very good breakfasts - more than continental. The location is ideal - close to everything.
Review 8:The rooms are indeed quite small and ours - located on the main floor - had no windows whatsoever, so at first it was a bit claustrophobic since we were four people (it would have been better to be just 2 people). I did get used to it and ended up appreciating the proximity to the pool. My friend's room was on the second level and had two small windows but a smaller bathroom.
Review 9:The location is great and the building (and old convent) is beautiful. I liked the different small patios and terraces. We enjoyed the pool every day (turns out hanging out at the pool qualifies as making good use of vacation time for me, unlike hanging out inside the room). And, unexpectedly, a very nice breakfast was included (eggs, juice, etc). I would definitively come back but I'd ask for a room with a window.
Review 10:Was noisy over the weekend but the location and lovely staff outweighed this.
Review 11:The location was perfect. The staff were very attentive, helpful and knowledgable.
Review 12:Small rooms. Noise until 4AM from an adjoining disco. very slow wi-fi
Review 13:Great people. Very nice small hotel in a great location. Beautiful interior courtyard
Review 14:Wi-fi signal was sometimes weak, probably because of the very thick walls. It wasn't really a problem.
Review 15:Excellent location, very good standard of cleanliness, great facilities. The pool was well-maintained - always clean and warm. Included extras like breakfast and bottled water were a pleasant surprise. All staff were fantastic. Many of them speak English very well, and those who didn't tried hard and could still communicate effectively. Nothing was too much to ask - all were very friendly, patient and welcoming. They also stored my luggage after checkout, with no additional fee. Would absolutely stay here again!
Review 16:The water pipes behind our room, allegedly in the bank next door, were screeching so loudly and incessantly (after hours!) that we had to be moved. In addition, we discovered that they had fumigated the rooms earlier, so when we had a nap (resting on the covers) we quickly developed a severe skin rash.
Review 17:Very courteous staff, eager to help. When we had a problem with our room, we were immediately transferred to a better room.
Review 18:Room was a little tight and dark, almost no natural light coming in through out the day (street level)...
Review 19:Wonderful staff, beautiful views from terrace, beautiful courtyard, very clean, great food... Great location!
Review 20:Not a thing!!
Review 21:The LOCATION! The room (#511) which was nice and roomie for the 4 of us. The pool was nice and warm. The staff - super accommodating. The only reason I didn't rate the wi-fi as excellent was because it didn't reach everywhere because of the thick walls. But we only had to step out our door and sit on a nice bench outside our room to be able to connect.
Review 22:I didn't like that we had made a reservation for a master suite way in advance and the hotel change our reservation right before we arrived to a regular room. Not acceptable when we planned ahead:( very noisy until late one evening of our stay- way past 10pm super noisy.
Review 23:Great location and helpful staff
Review 24:The hotels rents out the lobby for breakfast parties on sunday and they start playing crazy loud music at 9am.
Review 25:Hotel is what you would expect, clean, well tended, good breakfast.
Review 26:We took our older son and his fiancée. We didn't book a suite forthem. I was disappointed that they got a very small room with no windows(our friends who were with us also got the same type of room). Thewindowless rooms should be specified to customers, and they should notbe the same price as similar rooms with doors opening to the pool - orwindows. Next time I would specify the room type - or just book everyonesuites, which were $50/night more.
Review 27:The location was terrific, and our room was pleasant and bright, andvery clean. I would stay here again.
Review 28:It would be nice if the hotel would provide coffee in the room each morning.
Review 29:It is so well located you can walk to many attractions and great restaraunts without any problems. Also the hotel set up great tours for us. The help is very helpful.
Review 30:Within a block of bank, laundromat, good restaurants, the plaza, and pretty much everything you need. The staff was super helpful in lining up transportation for us and the pool was great- it was even heated!
Review 31:Beware that bookings.com state that the 19% tax is included. This is not and charged in addition on checkout. This is bookings.coms error across all Mexican hotels. Please keep in mind when booking on price.
Review 32:Staff were great and location is perfect.
Review 33:Some noise due to workmen late at night.
Review 34:Great location, short walk to many attractions of the old town. Pleasant atmosphere in a historic building. Would definitely stay there again, and would recommend it to others.
Review 35:The Internet service wasn't always available. It seemed to come and go. The beds weren't the most comfortable.
Review 36:The location was good as it within easy walking distance of the plaza, museums, arts & crafts and restaurants. The staff was very friendly and helpful to our needs, which made a stay very nice.
Review 37:Only thing that could be improved is storage space for clothes and personal items. There was very little so even though we stayed for 5 nights, most of our things stayed in our suitcases.
Review 38:Level of customer service—reception staff especially helpful and gracious. All spoke excellent English. Brilliant location, beautiful architecture, lovely patios, pool a welcome retreat in the heat.
Review 39:Unfortunately our visit was so brief and so packed with activities, we never had a moment to use the pool, which looked so beautiful and refreshing. Charging for bottled water, after the first bottle, seemed unnecessary. Seriously, the hotel can't provide unlimited potable water for guests??
Review 40:A beautiful structure with a lovely rooftop view, close to the zocalo. One could not ask for a better location. The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful.
Review 41:The rooms are small and stuffy, the beds are hard, pillows uncomfortable. Rooms small bc of nature of building but you cannot have the same rate for a box than for one that is roomier. Fans are needed in the room as the location if the ac is not practical for when you sleep it blows in you face.
Review 42:Location ideal for touring the city. Charming old building that used to be a convent. You are in the heart of Oaxaca.
Review 43:Great location, cute atmosphere, heated pool
Review 44:Restaurant service very slow. Not only the hotel but all restaurants in Oaxaca
Review 45:Location. Staff
Review 46:internet barely worked
Review 47:perfect location and very beautiful structure.
Review 48:Little expensive. Should include breakfast.
Review 49:Location is great.
Review 50:Bed was but small
Review 51:Pool
Review 52:Food, service: 3* max. Rooms are tiny & stuffy.
Review 53:Central location, patio.
Review 54:too noisy patio , 5 women partying drunk screaming at 1 am , nobody answerd in the reception to quiet them in 30 minutes
Review 55:not enough shelf space in bathroom not a single english tv station for news
Review 56:location. many staff excellent english and very helpful
Review 57:Room a little on the small side.
Review 58:A lovely old building with lots of plants in the court yard, around the pool and along corridors. Quiet at night.
Review 59:I enjoyed very much my breakfasts, the service and the hospitality of the staff!
Review 60:The rooms have no openable windows and get very stuffy and hot if the air condioning isn't on.
Review 61:The staff was very helpful and friendly.
Review 62:well it is when other people slam thier doors and the sound its really annoyed specially when you are ready to sleep...
Review 63:bath rooms are big, bed rooms are good, food is ok no far from the main plaza.
Review 64:It would have been nice if they had a bigger pool, but the super clean rooms and air conditioning were amazing.
Review 65:I loved that it was 1 block away from the Zocalo and 3 blocks away from Santo Domingo. The location was centralized to everything. Taxis were super easy to catch and the hotel was extremely clean. This hotel also offers a partial day stay for half the cost, which helped me on the last day I was there. The hotel staff was very accomodating and pleasant.
Review 66:Any negatives were minor. The air conditioners seemed to be run from a unit one floor below our windows. It was very loud. Since we did not use our air conditioner we were very aware of the noise.
Review 67:All the staff was very accommodating. Although we didn't have breakfast included, I ate it in the restaurant several times. The food, food choices, and service was excellent.
Review 68:I emailed in advance to ask how much a taxi would cost from Oaxaca airport to the hotel and they very kindly offered to send someone to meet us, which was great. However when I got a taxi to take us back I discovered that we should have paid 150 Mexican pesos for the trip and not the 400 the hotel charged. Disappointing.
Review 69:Nice pool.
Review 70:The rooms were very small and dark. It's good to ask to look at several room options, because there are different sizes.
Review 71:The heated pool was a great bonus. After sightseeing the kids loved hopping into the pool. Not many hotels have pools, leave alone heated pools in Oaxaca. Though very small, it served its purpose. Nice colonial atmosphere and nice atmosphere.
Review 72:The beds are rather hard as is common in Mexican hotels and they are remodeling the hotel which detracts considerably from the ambience of the beautiful colonial era building. There was piles of tiles and old cement bags in the stairwell.
Review 73:Nice hotel, very centrally located. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The pool was warm and the room was quite ample.
Review 74:Adjacent El Pombo restaurant, coffee shop and bar went from very professional to almost clueless but trying hard. More training needed. Food quality OK but limited options for breakfast. More low-cal, e.g. And the coffee: tasted like powdered stuff with canned milk. The chocolate much better. Drinks at night were excellent, however.
Review 75:Staff in the hotel itself were excellent. Front desk very helpful and professional, always someone who spoke English. Courteous, friendly.. Accommodations pleasant altho construction noise annoying. Nice pool. Good for kids, families. Low key, hospitable, not stuffy or pretentious..
Review 76:The bathroom was small. The plumbing was old with a slit odor. Not too bad. I would go back. The renovation noise was not a problem.
Review 77:The room and public area was very nice. The staff was excellent. We picked the hotel because it was close to the Zocalo and market.
Review 78:Would like some lounges on 2nd level for reading
Review 79:Friendly helpful staff Central location to city's amenities E.G.Markets, zocalo, churches Safe tours to nearby ruins and villagehandicraft markets arranged through CasAntica Hotel English speakinghotel staff on site and tour guide Old world architecture and charmof the hotel and city Excellent traditional Mexican breakfast Lotsof places to read/gather with family on 1st and 2nd level Goodwifi access
Review 80:It was very very loud. You feel like your fellow guests are in the roomwith you. We had to wear ear plugs at night even though we usually sleepthrough everything. We stayed in another hotel which cost less and wasbetter in every way.
Review 81:Terrace area was nice and location was ok.
Review 82:The pool is not great, no direct sunlight, you'll sit on the shade 95% of the day time - with no surprise, nobody uses it. Expensive for what you get, but Oaxaca hotels in the historical center are all overpriced.
Review 83:Location, cleanliness, the building itself and friendlyness of some staff is really good.
Review 84:We were charged a lot more money than the amount we had agreed upon withBooking.com. Our 6-night stay was confirmed by Booking.com at $734 usd,but the exchange rate used by the casantica was inflated and our visabill amounted to $778 usd. Can Booking.com do something about this?
Review 85:Hotel was in an excellent location, and this historic building isvery charming.
Review 86:There are no lifts. My wife is not keen on stairs. The coffee atbreakfast was awful - after the first 2 days we went out for breakfast
Review 87:The tranquil inner courtyards and places to sit outside, the staffwere friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. It was vcentrally located
Review 88:Renovations were under way... so there was some unwanted racket... but the staff worked diligently to contain the racket during hours that most folks would be out and about. This issue, of course, is temporary and I don't assume this will be an issue in the near future.
Review 89:The staff were fabulous! Particularly the housekeeping staff (Isabel) and all of the waitstaff in the restaurant. The daytime woman at the desk was fabulous... I didn't get her name, unfortunately. Great balcony, comfortable room with lots of space. Beautiful courtyard/pool with fountains. One block from the zocalo so VERY good location. I felt very safe and centrally located. I would go back to them in a flash. Oh... and free breakfast every day (not just continental, either)!
Review 90:No significant negatives.
Review 91:Location near Alcala, Zocalo and mercrados (3) was very accessible. Room amenities were very nice. Hotel staff, restaurant and esthetics were very nice.
Review 92:Mosquitoes in my room and around hotel (there are fountains -- beware).Under construction, so very loud.
Review 93:The staff was amazing! Accommodating and patient! From the waiters tohousekeeping to the front desk -- wonderful! Pool was wonderful after ahot day walking around.
Review 94:Both guests and cleaning staff were incredibly noisy from around 7:30 on a Sunday morning, meaning we were woken up really early.
Review 95:Nice and central, god breakfast, nice, if small, pool.
Review 96:Pool is very small and over heated. Good for kids to play in but not so great for real exercise.
Review 97:Sweet staff. Comfortable, clean and quiet. Pretty interior courtyard with open air roof over the pool.
Review 98:The hotel describes itself as a four star hotel which it certainly isn't more like a two star. The rooms were tired and very small and pokey. The showers had dirty screens and there was a massive amount of plastic pipe work on show. Towels were totally inadequate for two people. The beds uncomfortable with a plastic cover over the Matresses. The pillows were small and lumpy. The total experience was a disappointment as my expectations were of a four star. I would not stay here again. I am we'll travelled and am not normally as critical as this however I felt that the hotel is misleading in its advertisements.
Review 99:I liked the location all the sights were fairly close and it was straightforward getting in and out of the city
Review 100:Upon checking in the man at the front desk was unpleasant. The nightbefore check out I requested a wake up call and cab because we had to beat airport at six am. The man I spoke to was again rude. The call nevercame and when we went to check out at 6:30am no one was at the desk andthere was no cab. I found some paper and left a note with keys and wasable to flag a cab. The evening front desk needs classes in publicrelations.
Review 101:Our room was neat and clean. The location is good but noisy at night.
Review 102:Service in the restaurant was very poor. Food, mediocre at best. Not recommended despite free breakfast being part of the package! Skip it and head to the bakery at the end of the street.
Review 103:Lovely staff, very friendly and helpful with luggage assistance, vehicle parking & washing, directions and ideas of things to do. The presidential suite was very nice and good value. Loved the jacuzzi tub.
Review 104:We had a nice room, but many rooms were dark and closed in.
Review 105:Great location for the city of Oaxaca. The staff very helpful inanswering questions and helping us find locations of intrest.
Review 106:Some misunderstanding on the price of the transfer from yhe airport. This is the only 'doubt' I have
Review 107:Old typical building very well kept in a perfect position
Review 108:Rather costly for the room size
Review 109:Location
Review 110:I liked location
Review 111:Was a bit noisy at times.
Review 112:Close to the main square and staff were helpful and friendly.
Review 113:The access to the room was difficult, 3 different staircases.
Review 114:Location is really central. We did not take a bus/taxi for 2 days!
Review 115:The room was far too small
Review 116:The building and atmosfere
Review 117:Hi...tv(hd high-definition is not there)
Review 118:Hi...tv(yes)
Review 119:Excellent location, great service!
Review 120:Liked it all
Review 121:The staff was great the hotel was very pretty
Review 122:The room was small. And the water at the bathroom sink had an odor.
Review 123:The staff was great. Very helpful and nice.
Review 124:The pool is really small. There was no wi fi in the room.
Review 125:Its in the historical center. Service was really professional and kind.
Review 126:Great atmosphere, within walking distance to the zucolo and restaurants so a car was not needed. A good place to stay when visiting the city.
Review 127:In the center of Oaxaca, very good position and very romantic hotel
Review 128:Food quality in restaurant and service in the resaurant is below the standard of this hotel. Trafic noise in room.
Review 129:Great location in center of town.
