Reviews for Villa Maroc Essaouira
Review 1:The infrastructure needs a management review when it comes to Internet (only outside the room), the terasse (shadow support) and the whole Spa.("...guests can unwind on the terrace or enjoy a moment of pure relaxation in the Oriental Spa") E.g. the hotel has no bathrobe, no dress for the Spa-staff, guest share one glass of water, the towell etc. Small things that could be improved easily...but prevent from "pure relaxation" The bar/restaurant service was under the avarage - otherwise full points.
Review 2:Nice Location, next to the harbour. Very friendly staff on the terrace were you have breakfast. We could also recommend the garden with the pool and the nice service/food there.
Review 3:It wasn't clear that the shuttle to their sister hotel with a pool only goes once a day - and you have to buy in to the whole day experience including lunch. We only wanted to go for a dip and spend the rest of the day doing other things, so got a cab there and back instead. Next time I'll stay at a place that has a pool as that, for me, is a must - especially as the beach isn't really a swimming one. Also, staff often offered to book taxis for us, at vastly inflated rates. It's much cheaper to go to Bab Doukkala and get a cab from there (or a bus for more adventure!).
Review 4:loved the sea views. Our room was very comfortable, though a bit on the small side for a suite. Location was great. amazing breakfast! Great architecture, with lots of nooks and crannies, and loved the roof terrace.
Review 5:Intermittent wifi but that was not the fault of Villa Maroc.
Review 6:Great location, lovely staff, fabulous breakfast. Enticing nooks in which to enjoy the lovely food at dinner.
Review 7:We really enjoyed this place, having rented one of the top floor suites on the terrasse, with lots of light. The swiss owner and her staff do a great job, everyone is friendly and helpfull, the rooms are nicely furnished and clean. Great location at the entrance just inside the medina, close to the parking and the port.
Review 8:We wished an a la carte option was available at the restaurant, not just fixed menues.
Review 9:Excellent professionally run hotel with tastefully decorated rooms, a bar and a restaurant. We've enjoyed spending time by the fireplace in the evenings.
Review 10:Requested transfer to Le Jardin one afternoon to use pool facilities (as booking suggests is available to guests), but we were informed that transfers leave in the morning, returning at 4:30pm. I notice this is a trip advertised by the hotel at a cost and includes lunch (as there is no where else to eat once there! ). When I complainrd about this an hour later having checked my booking I was told I misunderstood; the staff have excellent English as do I, there was no misunderstanding.
Review 11:Great location close to harbour, beach and souk. The Villa Maroc has lots of potential
Review 12:- Only very tiny things to mention here: - The WiFi is a bit weak in some rooms or some area but strong and fast in main area - The living room would need some cozy blankets to nestle in the living room with the private fire place, just to make it even more cozy - Everything else was just great in Villa Maroc!
Review 13:- Very friendly service people - Very nice separeted dining rooms in the Riad - Beautiful fire places everywhere, they even bring olive wood into your room and fire up your private fire place by request (which we found so romantic and very seldom nowadays) - They put hot water bottle into your bed when it is cold outside to pre-warm your bed (so nice) - Don't miss the dinner they offer, it's like a very private dinner just for you right at one of their fire places and (yes) you have to make sure that you are (very) hungry :-)
Review 14:This is not a hotel for those who cannot climb stairs.
Review 15:In 50 years of world travel, this hotel is one of the best we've seen. Great location, very attentive staff, immaculate and beautifully decorated rooms, and a selection of rooftop, sea-view terraces and lovely little private spaces. Moroccan magic!
Review 16:Nothing to complain about
Review 17:Very warm welcome with hot meal waiting on late arrival. Spacious top floor suite with sea views. We even had a hot water bottle placed in the bed every night! Very friendly staff. Location is perfect for the harbour & visiting the souk
Review 18:This place has charm, character and comfort. The staff are so friendly and attentive, nothing is too much. Food is superb. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again and again……….
Review 19:Expect lots of stairs in Riads!!
Review 20:Location, hospitality, spacious rooms, breakfast on the roof terrace, tasteful decorations, quiet environment.expect lots of stairs,
Review 21:My sister and I dated at Villa Marocco for 3 days and were wonderfully surprised by its cleanliness, beautiful rooms, very helpful staff and excellent food. It's convenient location close to the beach and shopping streets is an additional bonus. I will definitely recommend it to friends and family.
Review 22:The only real negative was that the rooms could have been a bit cleaner, and being so near the sea, the rooms smelled musty.
Review 23:Great location in the Medina, roof top terrace had a stunning sea view and the place was well decorated with Moroccan antiques and artifacts. Very charming combined riads with a very good staff. The food and service were also very good. We were also upgraded to a family suite with 2 bedrooms. Overall, I was very happy with my choice.
Review 24:Plumbing needs attention. Choice of scorch or freeze not so great.
Review 25:We loved the restrained decor still so much in keeping with what is Morocco. We loved how close it was to everything and we really thought the staff great. They championed us in a traffic issue with an unsavory policeman and he went away without the bribe he was looking for. Food in the restaurant is great. Terrace for brekkie worth getting up early for to get the best table
Review 26:Our room was small and quite dirty. European prices but a Europeanstandard of cleanliness and comfort was not offered.
Review 27:Breakfast was good. The staff were very pleasant.
Review 28:Nothing. excellent riad. V.well run
Review 29:Wonderful location-great view from roof terrace. Staff are exceptionall, nice, polite & helpful - nothing is too much trouble. Food is very good indeed - have dinner
Review 30:Frustrating stuff assuring us that the Wi-Fi worked when in fact it worked BARELY, and even then only in the a.m. So noisy that it was not possible to sleep even with earplugs and medication Beware: room number 30 and remember 29 are separate rooms but they're open to each other so there's no privacy in the middle of both of those rooms. We were in room number 30 and we looked down on all of the activities of the poor people that were staying in room number 29 and vice versa!
Review 31:Graciously appointed artfully decorated rooms, close to everything
Review 32:N/a
Review 33:Location, authenticity, staff, food

Review 46:Wifi signal was not good
Review 47:Location, nice breakfast,terrace
Review 48:the hammam - not comfortable - not nice treatment
Review 49:location, very good bed, bath tube, friendly staff
Review 50:A very relaxing, quiet hotel right at the heart of the old town. Convenient for everything. Roof top view of the sea.
Review 51:Inhouse dinner too pricey for what you get.
Review 52:Great location. Great staff. Clean and comfortable. Unique collection of four connected buildings.
Review 53:The suite familial has no privacy from the suite above and below.
Review 54:Credit card crunch At last moment did not accept crest sedans demanded cash
Review 55:Beautiful great location great dinners. Very accommodating
Review 56:New Years eve dinner was a nice party but overpriced
Review 57:Location, beautiful place
Review 58:If you want to have a real treat, choose Villa Maroc. It is just a beautiful place to be and relax.
Review 59:The location was great The staff were lovely very friendly.
Review 60:They need a pool on site.
Review 61:The staff was very attentive and the Villa was gorgeous. We especially liked the breakfast on the upper terrace.
Review 62:a little bit expensive
Review 63:great location, very kind people
Review 64:Noise. Stairs, WiFi
Review 65:Location, Decor and Staff
Review 66:Brilliant! The breakfast was delicious and the room was beautiful. Well worth the money, loved it!!!
Review 67:Location in Essaouira medina; quirky rooms; excellent common areas; views from the terrace; its place in the history of Essaouria. When we asked for a different room (due to a difficulty with lots of stairs - common in Morocco), they were very accommodating and we were very happy.
Review 68:There needed to be an alternative to breakfast on the roof terrace.
Review 69:Lovely riad.Public rooms beautifully decorated and all the spaces well utilized for guest use. Bedrooms are comfortable and spacious. The location is ideal for exploring the medina and seafront. Its also located near to some good restaurants.
Review 70:Nothing to dislike.
Review 71:The decor, ambience, location near the sea with excellent views. Roof terraces, breakfasts, dinners. Staff were Very considerate and thoughtful. Hot water bottles put into our bed nightly. Lovely few days.
Review 72:We stayed at Villa Maroc for four nights while visiting Essaouira. The rooms were bright and made even more beautiful by the Moroccon decor and the fresh, colorful roses in every room. The location is a great home base for exploring the fish markets, the medina and restaurants. The rooftop terrace is perfect for afternoon tea, reading in the sun, watching the tide come in, and having breakfast (which is also delicious with yogurt, fruits, breads, fresh squeezed orange juice, and coffee). When we visited in February, a few evenings were were chilly, but there is a cozy room with a fire place for warming up. Our favorite parts was coming home from dinner every night to find a hot water bottle tucked into the bed linens. As riads are not heated, this surprise made such a difference. Overall, the staff was friendly and smiling, the location was ideal, and the relaxed atmosphere made Villa Maroc an outstanding experience.
Review 73:Having lunch served to us on the roof terrace was fabulous. The staff were always friendly, courteous and extremely helpful. The Riad was very peaceful; an oasis of calm very well located for visiting the buzz outside.
Review 74:Incredible nice staff, excellent management, great decorated and designed rooms, worth every penny, wonderful location and the breakfast was just stunning. We loved it!!
Review 75:Didn´t like the smell of catpiss in the entrance / reception - it brought down the (first) impression of your villa which is so unnecessary given the quality of everything else.
Review 76:The ambiance was calm, the antics spread around in different rooms were pieces of interest to study, and the experience of living in a riad - quaint.
Review 77:Stayed there before and would definitely go again. It's extremely well run, a lovely old riad and they also have a delightful place in the country in a thuya forest.
Review 78:The hotel was beautiful with very friendly staff. The food was delicious - a different home-made breakfast every day on the roof. The view was fabulous. A perfect location.
Review 79:Nothing. A few reviews were considering as a negative the fact that the TV or a phone or the minibar was not present in the room; for me instead it was a plus contributing to the magic atmosphere of the place.
Review 80:A beautiful hotel full of charme with a lot of attention to details (fresh flowers, nice pottery, beautiful carpets, soft lights, ...). Unfortunately I was travelling alone, I hope to come back soon with my wife!
Review 81:room charge is a bit overpriced, and room is relatively small for the price. my friend got another bigger room after voicing out her dissatisfaction.
Review 82:location. breakfast.
Review 83:We didn't like the cold and extremely windy weather in Essaouira which meant that it was only warm enough to sit out on the terrace for one evening and listen to the music but that was of course not the fault of the hotel. In fact that one evening listening to the last concert of the Gnaoua music festival was magical and unforgettable. And the waiter was very kind in bringing us some snacks and drinks all the way up to the terrace which is several floors away from the kitchen up a steep staircase.
Review 84:Villa Maroc is an old riad lovingly restored. We got an upgrade after being disappointed with the room we were first shown. It didn't have twin beds as requested and did not have the sea view we requested but the upgrade more than made up for one night in somewhat unsuitable accommodation. The terrace where we had breakfast had fantastic views and also overlooked the main stage of the Gnaoua Music Festival which was the purpose of our visit.
Review 85:We have been to Essaouira twice and the only downside, nothing to dowith the Villa Maroc, has been a prevalent strong wind off the sea whichcan make walking in exposed areas quite unpleasant-but is not noticeableinside the medina.
Review 86:Villa Maroc has an excellent location in the medina and is easy tofind. The fact that the hotel is made up of four former houses givesit a homely, private atmosphere. The staff were friendly and efficientand breakfast on the terrace and dinner inside the hotel were of ahigh quality.
Review 87:It was all Great
Review 88:Villa Marco esawiera was a great experience - and it was just in front of the gnawa festival - staff are friendly , the villa is divine and of course spotless - we are diffenetly going back
Review 89:The exchange rate used at the hotel was pretty low versus the £ therefore it cost a little more than expected. the terrace is very windy, take a snug jacket!
Review 90:the location was excellent, right in the centre of the medina, fantztic!
Review 91:looking past the charm, it was a bit on the pricey side for what we actually got. some of the facilities could use maintenance (slow drains, the bathroom had a faint musty smell) which was a shame, but also was within the limits of expectation for a riad of this age. also the room that we booked online did not resemble the room that we stayed in (they picture the more high-priced suites, but ours was a smaller, darker, non-view room). i would recommend villa maroc essaouria to other travelers, but i also feel that that you could likely find just as nice a room for less.
Review 92:great location, safe and clean, charming old riad with lots of character
Review 93:Price too high for the offer: no TV no minibar no beach towels no slippers not even drinking water in the rooms. All things which I usually found in Riad even at a lesser price.
Review 94:Beautiful Riad with old furniture and decor
Review 95:While there are some things like the house confiture that are reallyspecial there are others that are a bit disappointing. The coffee wasnever hot and there was very little variety in the breakfasts comparedto other and less expensive places in Morocco and the same could be saidabout the dinners
Review 96:This is a very beautiful hotel in an unbeatable location with bath andduvet which are unusual in our experience in this location and worththeir weight in gold to me!! The decor is first class and the attentionto detail stunning with surprises round every corner. Someone hasclearly done an amazing job here and enjoyed doing it.
Review 97:This is not a criticism of Villa Maroc as they did everything to rectifythe problem when we arrived and were told we didn't have a roomthere.. But Booking.com sent us a 'successful confirmation'letter which was apparently superceded by an email from vm which wedidn't receive. I didn't get confirmation of our airporttransfer either until I went through Booking.com..maybe the third partyfor booking got the emails but we didn'T...we did get a room therebut only after a very stressful start to the holiday! Would it be betterif Booking.com only confirmed when the hotel are sure they can offer theroom? Vm contact email did not respond...certainly not directly to myaddress anyway? A mystery. Again ...no complaints about them..I Justhave a desire to make sure the system works for all. Babs Day
Review 98:Great location. Lovely ancient riad with many amazing features ofMorrocan style. The panoramic roof terrace The quality of the staff. Theambience and candles and dinner settings.
Review 99:Could I suggest offering guests a menu at breakfast to possibly help save on any waste of food as a lot of bread and fried doughnuts may not be required.
Review 100:I liked the atmosphere of Villa Maroc, so restfull in the day and romantic at night ! Breakfasting on the roof terrace was a wonderful way to start the day ! Great location ! Friendly staff and an atmosphere lending it easy for guests to mix and chat at the bar .
Review 101:The fact that it wasn't warm in the building. The rooms are heatedand are ok, but in breakfast spaces it was cold. The hotel is relativelyexpensive but still you have to pay € 3.00 extra if you wanted an eggfor breakfast!!! There could have been cheese with breakfast and itcould be more varied. There are just two variations, one day this, theother day that.
Review 102:The ambiance, the character of the old building, the roof terrace withviews, the friendliness of the employees and the location.
Review 103:The staff were fabulous and very helpful and courteous. The Riad itself was very comfortable and a little osasis in the middle of a bustling medina.
Review 104:Excellent comfort Facilities Location Staff
Review 105:temperamental shower.
Review 106:Food, dining areas, location, furnishings & decorations, staff.
Review 107:Location and charm of hotel
Review 108:Everything, very dirty villa. Arrogant staff. Not child friendly at all for young children very steep stairs.
Review 109:Nothing at all
Review 110:Location was great and rooms delightfully appointed.
Review 111:Thanks to their nice hosts we had a lovely stay in Morocco, they were such a great help for us! The place is such a treat!
The Fine Print
The hotel arranges transportation to Les Jardins de la Villa Maroc riad, where guests have access to the swimming pool and restaurant.
