Reviews for Hotel Della Fortezza
Review 1:The superior rooms have the best views I ever saw from a hotel room! The area is perfect for a vacation combining history, walking, eating, and hot water bathing.
Review 2:The dramatically striking location of the hotel itself, the beautiful village and more generally beautiful region, the fine restaurants in the neighborhood, the breakfast in the hotel
Review 3:The church bells chime like a grandfather clock once on the half hour and the hour it is on the hour, only louder. This probably wouldn't have been a problem had we been able to figure out the air conditioning. Being a pretty light sleeper got about 2-3 hours. I missed two and three o'clock
Review 4:The staff here is wonderful. It was pretty neat staying in a castle.
Review 5:I wasn’t able to check in at 11AM (well before the stated check in time), but was able to leave my luggage. So really it was no problem.
Review 6:This was the room I’d hoped for. It had an amazing view overlooking the roof tops of this beautiful little hilltown. Although it’s a steep climb up from the town itself, parking is easy. There's a free lot at the same level as the hotel just off the highway. Considering this a converted fortress, you can’t expect to have curbside service. It was still an easy walk to the hotel.
Review 7:The fact we could only stay for one night!!!
Review 8:The setting is incredible. We were greeted by Andreus who made us feel so welcome, even making us a pot of tea. We were high up on a cliff top in a 13th century fortress overlooking a fantastic town worth walking around, full of twists and turns, with cobbled alleys everywhere, leading to another awesome view. Our room with a view had free wifi and having a sweet tooth, how lucky was I with all those cakes for breakfast! Thank you.
Review 9:Stay was too short!
Review 10:Warm welcome by very helpful staff and recommendation of an excellent restaurant. Fantastic views and lots to see and do. Great breakfast.
Review 11:Mattresses were a little old, no air conditioning and no screens on the windows although that's part of the experience, I guess.
Review 12:It was a castle! Be prepared for that - it's a very old building converted to a charming hotel with lovely staff. Beautiful views, nice breakfast layout. Room was clean, lovely bathroom.
Review 13:The reception closes at 20:00
Review 14:Such an amazing place. Old fortress in the middle of one of Toscana's hidden gems - Sorano. The town has great Italian ambience and is ideal to escape the tourist crowds. Facilities and comfort of the hotel are good but what makes the value is the atmosphere and the view over Sorano and the surroundings. You can also have a tour through the castle.
Review 15:Amazing to stay at a place so old and full of history.
Review 16:The shower head was not functioning well. The breakfast was so so.
Review 17:Excellent location. Beautiful and large room.

Review 27:uniqueness
Review 28:Fantastic views over Sorano city. Nice restaurant nearby.
Review 29:Friendly staff, spectacular views, nice breakfast with home made cakes
Review 30:Staff was very helpful with our late arrival. Wonderful breakfast.
Review 31:Parking was a ways away but not a huge problem.
Review 32:Unbelievable views from our room. Very friendly staff and a 10% discount through the hotel at a very good restaurant. Loved it.
Review 33:It can be something of a trek coming back up to the hotel from the village if if you've eaten well, but not to put you off !
Review 34:The location, high above the village of Sorano. The attention of the staff. The views. There is no problem with parking if you come from Orvieto direction- just past the Talismano restaurant on the right there is public parking & easy & level access to the Hotel. The Talismano restaurant provides decent food, & down in the village there is both a good pizzeria, & a second restaurant, the Fidalma also OK. (It does help if you have a little Italian !)
Review 35:I loved the Sorano experience. It was like arriving a Dracula castle in the dark... Walking steep deserted streets... The hotel matched the experience.
Review 36:The ambiance of the whole castle surrounded by the scenic town and adjacent valleys was awe inspiring. The breakfast was very good including various freshly baked cakes and other items, The bottomless lattes or cappuccini was a nice touch. Within easy driving distance of Orvieto and other beautiful towns for great day-trips. Several very good restaurants within walking distance.
Review 37:This was my second time at the hotel. As expected, it was a fantastic experience. I will definitely come back in the future. I really hope the hotel will continue to be run as it is run now.
Review 38:Small details, like the shower that needed some fixes. Nothing that prevented us to enjoy our staying however.
Review 39:Staff kindness and professional, outstanding location and view from the room.
Review 40:Fantastic location. Room with impressive view over the town of Sorano. Very quiet and with very excellent staff. Ideal position for exploring Maremma and its surroundings. We will come back and will recommend to friends and family.
Review 41:It was great to stay in a real castle. You have to cross a moat to get to it. They gave me, as a single traveler, a great room with a million dollar view over the entire city and countryside. It was extraordinary. Being a castle keep in mind a number of things. There is no air conditioning, but a nice breeze, even on a hot day. The internet works in the public areas. It is best to park your car on the street behind the castle and wheel or carry your luggage to the hotel. I just brought an overnight bag and left the rest of my luggage in the car. It is a great experience and I highly recommend it.
Review 42:The deluxe room that we had was mezzanine. The bottom area was extremely small and felt very claustrophobic. Two seater period sofa looked nice but was extremely uncomfortable as the springs had gone. Bathroom was good size but the drains smelt. Despite negative points, we would revisit though.
Review 43:Very friendly and helpful staff. Very clean. Superb views from the deluxe room. Breakfast was adequate but nothing special.
Review 44:We enjoyed our stay with our beautiful host Francesca. She was so lovely and helpful. The house is a treasure and we would highly recommend this B@B. Wifi was great! Breakfast on the terrace was fantastic. Very cool little town with lots of character.
Review 45:It will be hard to top that stay in my life ... what a view ... what a sunset / sunrise ... what an experience ... what a story these walls have to tell ...
Review 46:Perfection a really superb place to stay. Anyone looking for a rural place to stay in Tuscany we would fully recommend at least a couple of nights here and try their restaurant too best pizza we had during our two week holiday. We couldn't find fault with anything
Review 47:Excellent, friendly staff, very charming, you actually are inside a fortress, great views, awesome breakfast, nice area... And if you're into cars or motorbikes the streets around Sorano are a playground.
Review 48:Where to begin? This hotel is unforgetable! The location isstunning, the staff is warm and friendly, the rooms are spacious, beds are confortable...but best of all - the breakfast!! Homemadecakes, absolutely scrummy! Probably the most amazing hotel we'veever stayed at, and we'll definitely be coming back! Thanks toall the staff.
Review 49:Vehicle access difficult. Bed not very comfortable. Wifi only available next to reception desk.
Review 50:Unique experience to stay in a 13th Century fortress overlooking a medieval stone village. Excellent breakfast. Incredibly picturesque. Amazing views. Pleasant, helpful staff.
Review 51:WI-Fi is only available near reception. You can drive up to the castleforecourt to drop off or collect luggage, but it is very difficult witha larger car!
Review 52:We loved being able to stay in the fortezza in a medieval village.Access to the hotel over the drawbridge and forecourt added to the funof staying here. Our room was well appointed, warm and comfortable. Wehad beautiful views over the village and on to the tufa hills which aredotted with with Etruscan caves, which you can explore. Breakfast wasvery good and was composed of cold meat, cheese, tarts, croissants, cereals, fruit and very good coffee. Parking is available close by. Weloved our stay here, it was one of our holiday highlights. There aregreat walks around the town and many attractions close by.
Review 53:Very warm welcoming staff. Rooms are spacious and comfortable enough. View from rooms is astonishing.
