Reviews for French Hotel
Review 1:When arrived the door card key malfunction
Review 2:Nice lobby and come with information on location of recommended place for eating. A walking distance to 7-E as well as KFC
Review 3:None
Review 4:Good location, new, friendly staff, smooth check in, parking is not attached in the building, but is alright, just a short walk. Very thoughtful toilet roll holders, 1 on left, 1 on right! Lol.
Review 5:Nothing
Review 6:Central location. Above basic facilities yet not luxury however excellent value for money. Clean, good quality. Fabulous service from staff, particularly Wanesa, who. Helped us with tours , restaurant recommendations (Delight Restaurant) and umbrellas. Breakfast was extra. But considering the cost acceptable.
Review 7:the room is not really soundproof as you can hear the noise clearly from the corridor while you are inside the room.
Review 8:the room is clean with all the necessary appliance.
Review 9:The hotel front desk is very polite and professional despite at the time we arrived there are many guest wanting to check out. The rooms is very clean and modern. More like a 3star rather than a 2star hotel. There are lots of "makan" places nearby ranges from fastfood to cafes and restaurant all within walking distance. Money changers are nearby too. 7-eleven is just beside the hotel. The Gerbang Malam is just abt 10mins walk from French Hotel. Taxis are easy as they will wait in front of the hotel but you have to bargain for the price as they dun go by meters. Overall we will definitely return again next year to explore Gua Tempurung and extend our stay in Ulu River Lodge experiencing all the fun and adventurous activities from RiverBug Asia.
Review 10:Excellent stay. We arrived pre-dawn tired and disheveled but the check-in staff gave us the room almost instanteously so that we could rest and catch-up on sleep before breakfast. Helpful and always ready to assists!
Review 11:Safe/Comfortable bed/up2date deco Shower was very nice umbrella rain Aircon very cold "very nice"- $ for value//...location is easy & central
Review 12:The guest's kids staying on the same floor were noisy.
Review 13:The Sunday flea market located next to the hotel. The staff at the reception very helpful in giving directions, advice and suggestions on good eateries and tourist spots
Review 14:Staff was knowledgeable and helpful. Location was superb and easy access to most food around the town area. Room was large and generous and most importantly clean.
Review 15:The staff was really professional and friendly, particularly Wanessa who recommended delicious places to eat at as well as answering a load of questions we had. Knowing that it was our honeymoon, they even decorated the bed with kissing swans made from towels and fresh rose petals! The hotel is also really clean and the room had double-glazed windows so it was really quiet despite its central location.
Review 16:We like everything about this hotel, from the moment we step into this hotel and the moment we left this premises. For those who have young children I highly recommended to booked the extra king size bed, I never seen that huge bed before in any other hotels. sooo comfortable for us (mom, dad, 7yo, 5yo and 3yo).
Review 17:The pillow was a bit high for me
Review 18:Liked that they soundproofed the windows so it was quite quiet. Also near to my fav dim sum at Ming court. Easy to get cabs in the area.
Review 19:Slightly pricier than standard hotels in Ipoh. No breakfast but not an issue.
Review 20:Pictures don't do the rooms justice. Rooms are spacious, bathroom fittings are very modern and sleek with rainshower. Beds are soooo comfy, location is central, 5-10 mins drive to Ipoh famous eats. There is a parking lot at the corner just next to the hotel. I don't bother looking for other hotels anymore when I'm in Ipoh.
Review 21:Nothing.
Review 22:Cleanliness. Friendly staff especially Front Desk staff Wenesa who is helpful and gives helpful tips on places to go etc. Convenient location. 10 to 15 mins walk to heritage walk and good local famous eateries. Value for money.
Review 23:Inconvenience parking. Access to room has been disabled even before check-out. Noisy - morning flea market with many foreigners.
Review 24:Clean room and bedding. Good shower facility. Located in city centre.
Review 25:One of the receptionist, Vanessa was so helpful and friendly. The room is a comfortable size but I can make do of the round table in the room. It actually makes the room looking like a dorm
Review 26:incomplete toiletries. limited choices for breakfast.
Review 27:the location. it is located in the middle of town. coincidentally we stayed there during the weekend so we have the opportunity to visit the sunday flea market behind the hotel.
Review 28:Well the only issue I could probably think would be the parking. It's not that far away from the hotel but I would not consider it safe for ladies. there is supposed to be a guard, but he is rather elderly gentleman hence if any situation actually occurred I don't he could be of any real help plus I haven't really seen him in later part of the night
Review 29:Checking in was a breeze. Staff very efficient & helpful. They even handed a photostat map of surrounding eateries. Bed was comfortable. Room was clean. bathroom water pressure was good.
Review 30:location is strategic,it is walking distance to the famous dining place~rooms are clean, especially the bathroom can be compare with 5 star hotel! (except for no bath tub)haha~ staff are friendly~all serving with a smile on face~^^ I was in rush for the previous trip and i would like to visit here again for my next trip to ipoh!
Review 31:The wifi system was antiquated and frustrating. Wifi nowadays should be free, fast and plentiful. Only allowing two items to connect to it is a pain.
Review 32:Lots of information given by reception on places to eat and visit, which was great. The room was very clean and comfortable.
Review 33:The mattress is slightly hard to me. The wall is a bit thin, and sometimes we can hear the noise of the people in the corridor.
Review 34:The staff are very professional and helpful. The hotel is within walking distance to many famous eating places. Next to the hotel counter, the staff put an interesting signboard to show the locations of these eating places. Another impressive aspect of this hotel is its cleanness, almost impeccable. Be careful about the hotel location shown in booking.com -- it's not accurate. Google map has the correct location.
Review 35:no bad experience
Review 36:Very good and helpful service from Front desk Good wifi.Good location Close to main road but not noisy. Clean and comfortable room Overall exceed expectation!
Review 37:Forget breakfast en het roti canai from the restaurant 100 metres to the left.
Review 38:Smallish, but food room with gigant King bed and Bert good mattress. Bert clean.
Review 39:We did not encounter any bad experience. We would have liked it better if the hotel had been located in an area closer to the main food places (as Ipoh is famous for its food).
Review 40:The staff were very helpful, as appropriate.
Review 41:Entrance to the room was a bit dark and could have done with more light and the sitting area was a bit congested.
Review 42:We did a tour of Penisular Malaysia and this was the best value hotel we used. We booked the largest room which was clean and spacious with a comfortable bed and a really good shower, plus a fridge. The staff were excellent and very helpful. The hotel has a good entrance lobby, and is located centrally near to the historic area and has many restaurants in easy walking distance.
Review 43:car park location has no roof
Review 44:the location is very convenient to walk around, the bed is very comfortable. i would wish to personally thank Vanessa for all the recommendation for food location where the local ipoh people goes. i have had super delicious and cheap food which is beyond description from her recommendations. i am so lucky to have met he. excellent service from the staff
Review 45:Top floor is rather hot and the air conditioning takes a while to cool the room. I would like if the hotel was pet friendly though.
Review 46:We have stayes here a few times before. The hotel is well located, short walk to nearby eating places even a short drive to the famous tim sum restaurants. Bank is round the corner. Convenient store next door.
Review 47:Reasonable price, courteous and helpful staff. There is a Sunday morning flea market just beside this hotel. Local called it a "thief market" Good if are able to pick up some old collectibles.
Review 48:Wifi didn't work, the bathroom was dirty and the room smelt terrible. Our double lock and safe was broken. They managed to fix the lock for the second night but not the safe. Also to be noted you are right next to train tracks so can be noisy.
Review 49:Hotel is comfortable until the morning market appear on the side lane of the hotel. Also beware that it is not a safe area for family. I seen two groups of indian man quarrelling outside the hotel and anytime could escalate into a group fight. The car park happen to be between the hotel and this group of people. Hotel had a latch on the main room door that is virtually useless. They fixed it the wrong way round and cannot prevent intruders at all. What a a shame. Last but not least the map on booking.com is wronged and I was led to somewhere further up the hotel. I cannot find the hotel until I called them.
Review 50:Good small hotel.
Review 51:Nothing-- it worked really well for us.
Review 52:The name comes from the fact its original owner was from France and set up the hotel in Ipoh. It's not especially French in decor or ambience but there's a really pleasant little cafe/bistro area on the second floor. Our room was fine-- a very comfortable bed and a super bathroom-- and the hotel's well located just a short walk from restaurants, historical areas etc, though you'd probably need a taxi to get to the Old Town. Staff are very helpful and helped us with navigation and arranging taxis with no fuss at all.
Review 53:No bad experience
Review 54:The staff were very helpful, they gave pin point directions when asked. They went out of their way to get a cab for us. The night shift officer namely Stanly [may have got his name wrong] he is outstanding. French Hotel is very fortunate to have such excellent staffs
Review 55:No place to stop the car outside the hotel so had to paek the car in an open car park then walk back with luggage in tow.
Review 56:Convenient location with plenty of places to eat close by
Review 57:The wifi is slow. The tv resolution is not good. The sound proof is bad, can hear all conversation next doors.
Review 58:The location is good. The staff are friendly. The rooms are clean.
Review 59:Clean rooms, friendly staff and most of its excellent location. The French Hotel has been in Ipoh for many years and is well known. I understand it was recently fully refurbished, refelected by the nice clean rooms, comfortable beds and good showers. Within an easy walk you can reach many of the local shops and food market making this a good choice for accomodation when visiting Ipoh.
Review 60:It's well located in the middle of town, an easy walk to the station, old town, shops and restaurants, and lots of food stands. I was there on a Sunday, and there was a big market right next to the hotel, with stands selling clothes, food, electronics and loads of other stuff. The staff were friendly and helpful, with lots of recommendations for restaurants and help with transportation.
Review 61:We travel with 2 children under 12 years old and the new hotel policy ask us to pay additional for 1 children despite the kids will share the same bed as us. Really unhappy.
Review 62:WiFi was slow
Review 63:Stayed in the King Deluxe room for 3 nights. Love the room. Room was comfy and clean. I hope it stays that way. Keep it up French Hotel! The location was excellent. Walking distance to all the famous eatery and tourist spots. Would like to give a thumbs up to the staffs. Helpful & friendly. Always greet you with a smile.
Review 64:The restaurant in the hotel was overpriced, which is why no one was eating there
Review 65:The Chinese lady at reception was extremely helpful. The room and the hotel were equivalent to a 5 star hotel.
Review 66:I usually find something bad to say, but this time, there is nothing I can think of...
Review 67:The management is very professional and welcoming. Thanks to Melissa who can speak some French, she is very attentive to details (she worked in Club Med before). They helped us book some taxis for tours (cars are a must to go sightseeing, we didn't have our driving license to rent motorbikes or cars....). I think they were for fair price. Unfortunately our driver rolled on something which made a tire flat. We waited for 45 min on the highway for his friend to come and continue our day trip. He agreed to count from the actual time we started with him, not from the time he left the city. I guess this is fair and makes them and the hotel trustworthy people. Melissa helped us arrange taxi for anything, also called the bus station to check bus tickets price and availability (it's not possible to book on the phone so we had to go there). The rooms are spacious, clean, and pretty much everything you need (hairdryer, clothes hangers, TV with English speaking channels, big mirror, kettle... no toothbrush or toothpaste though). The shower is also quite clean, and seperated from the sink and toilet by a clean glass door. Iwill definitely come back if I'm ever in Ipoh!
Review 68:Good central location. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Gave us a good map on check-in with locations of all sorts of restaurants all in walking distance. Thaipussam processions passed right in front of hotel
Review 69:The staff is very helpful and friendly. The location is excellent. Very close to restaurants and shops. The bed is comfortable, the sheets are clean.
Review 70:Had everything we needed: convenient location, helpful staff, good wifi, computer in the lobby, comfortable bed and nice ensuite. Rooms aren't big but are very comfortable and clean
Review 71:Wi-Fi kind of slow but is not a problem as most of the time we are out.
Review 72:Staff by the name of Wenesa is very attentive and informative. She is very resourceful and provide us with lots of information about eateries and place to visit. Thanks to her and my stay was a memorable one.
Review 73:So far, I am satisfied and nothing to complain.
Review 74:The staffs very friendly and helpful. Most important, I would say they are effective and efficient in their work.
Review 75:You could see into the bathroom as the walls are glass! There was a rubbish dump outside our window in the street below.
Review 76:Nice seating in the foyer. Pleasant staff.
Review 77:There aren't any male staff to carry the bags around. The girl at the receptionist had to follow me up to my room to help me with the bags.
Review 78:I like the comfortable plush beds, the clean bathroom and "rain" shower head and the good location.
Review 79:Lack of parking space and even though there are parking ficilities we were worried about the security as it was a few blocks away.
Review 80:The location. The helpful and cheerful staffs.
Review 81:The central location was good. The hotel printed maps for us to search for the various food stalls and coffee shops around the area which was a great help for us. Happy that we have chosen the right hotel.
Review 82:nothing
Review 83:The room was very modern and the bed super comfortable, i like that we had 2 pillows each. The staff were fantastic, 2 days before we checked in we went to the bistro for lunch and the reception desk staff were so helpful and went out of their way to organise us a taxi even walking into the street to hail one... we decided to check out of our current hotel and check in to this one.
Review 84:Parking is a bit dodgy in nearby unguarded rough land
Review 85:Very simple concept, well executed. Rooms and bathrooms were clean and functional, and staff helpful. Location quite good for walking
Review 86:Food in cafe overpriced. Ala carte breakfast not up to expectations. Room air con gets very cold even on low
Review 87:Reception staff very friendly and helpful especially Vanessa
Review 88:Parking lot abit far and inconvenience especially during raining.
Review 89:Good customer service, friendly approach and helpful staff.Quick response upon request.
Review 90:Air conditioning was turned off in the early hours of the morning.
Review 91:Hotel was modern decor. Restaurant is quaint with good quality breakfast. Location is great for Foodies wanting to try the local restaurants. Shower was great.
Review 92:The corridor was very noisy with people talking and walking, the children were shouting and running around and playing outside in the early morning. These noise woke us up in the early morning. The door and the wall not so sound proof. Poor wifi.
Review 93:Washroom is awesome with high water pressure and satisfied water heater services. Warm lighting is a plus point to my journey
Review 94:1. Thin door/walls 2. Specifically asked for a quiet room during booking. Reminded the staff abt it during check in butgot a room opposite a family with young kids (saw them when entering room). A great hotel with well ttrained staff wouldn't have assigned that room to me as I had trouble sleeping due to the noise that family made at the hours normal people would be sleeping.
Review 95:1. Located in the center of town 2. Free open parking 30m away 3. Great bed n pillows 4. AC was strong 5. Clean room n bathroom 6. Good water pressure 7. Polite staff
Review 96:The WiFi quality is poor, but it may be due to some technical glitch during my tenure of stay.
Review 97:The cleanliness and comfort in the room is excellent! Service is adequate and requests were attended promptly. Staffs are well trained and well-mannered.
Review 98:The staff were very welcoming and helpful. They organised taxis and gave us advice on how to get around. They always had a smile on their faces too. Bed was comfortable and hotel was quiet. We would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to our family and friends.
Review 99:We had to pay extra for the cot which is fair enough but they wanted tocharge for a blanket on top of it. With all the fees, it wasn't a'budget' hotel anymore. The hotel was built about 2 years agobut it looked quite tired. Maybe my expectation was too high since thereviews were great. I won't stay here again.
Review 100:I like the location and one of the staff member was on top of things. She seems very friendly and nice.
Review 101:WiFi poor reliability. Extra towels are charged (only a small amount, sowhy bother?) Required me to explain why I wanted extra towels!
Review 102:Large room; good size shower room;
Review 103:Location; Large room.
Review 104:Great bathroom and shower, reception staff are very friendly, within walking distance of the train station, spacious room, comfortable bed, nice lobby,
Review 105:1. I was spied on by numerous security cameras at reception. Details of my card went unprotected, initially. The staff did agree to hand documents face down. I did my best to hide my details by wearing a broad-brimmed hat and making a shield of a wad of papers. Though I do not think it was the French Hotel, my bank account was hacked for $800 before I left Malaysia. I was advised in Malaysia that this sort of hacking is an everyday thing in that country. I would advise anyone travelling in Malaysia to take cash and never use a card, or at least use ATMs, and then only in conjunction with a thorough hiding of the PIN with a wallet etc. This is relevant to the French Hotel as much as to any hotel in Malaysia, hence this spot on booking.com is the place to comment on the problem. 2. The French Hotel required a deposit of cash in case we did any damage to the room, but this was invidious, because the hotel did not offer an equivalent fastidiousness as to its own behaviour. The pipe from hand basin had not been cleared in recent times, so would not drain immediately and the basin was grimy. The lock on the bathroom door fell off in my hand. Paint had flaked or worn off the external surround of the shower recess and not been restored. The decorative panels in the corridor were of a rubbery material and had suffered from various small rips and holings. I had to vouch at several turns in view of their holding my deposit that neither I nor my family members been responsible for certain pieces of damage, this being a legal requirement that goes along with a guest's acceptance of the payment of a deposit.
Review 106:The air-conditioning and the bed were excellent. From what you see about what I did not like, I have to say I have questions about the sincerity of the management, but I found the staff were attentive to complaints. The hotel may when founded not so long ago have been French in the sense of well cared for, but the standard of building and furnishing finishes and maintenance was low, with, for example, plenty of the black created by mould between the tiles.
Review 107:Slow wifi - it was fine for email but unstable for skyping and web surfing; bathroom floor wasn't cleaned properly
Review 108:We booked into a deluxe king room. We loved the availability of both a hand held shower and a fixed shower head; staff were ready to help with booking taxis; ample power points available in room; hotel is located close to eating shops and a wet market.
Review 109:a bit noisy in the early morning as our room is close to the storage room. A dim light near the entrance which is unable to switch off.
Review 110:great location. the room is clean and comfort.
Review 111:Only a minor thing: the temperature in the lobby and restaurant was extremely low due to an intense use of the air-condition.
Review 112:Very nice clean rooms. Service-minded and friendly staff. Fine restaurant. Good location, you can easily walk to everything. You get good value for money here.
Review 113:Pillow is a bit too soft but the hotel provide 2 each for the guest.
Review 114:Location was really good. You can see the hotel right after UTC Perak as they are located on the same row ( different block ). Lots of eatery nearby the hotel. There's a 7-eleven right next to the hotel and Watson is just cross the road. Famous restaurant like Lou Wong, Onn Kee, Aun Kheng Lim etc is around the old town area. You can choose to walk though it'll take around 15-20mins or within 10mins if you drive. Dim Sum like Foh San & Meng Kok is consider very near as well. All within 10mins driving distance ( without jam of course) Room is very clean and the bed is the most comfortable bed ever. And compare with the one we stayed at Grand Kampar Hotel a day before too.
Review 115:Our room wasn't as sound proof as I had hoped for. Close to 3am we heard doors slamming several times, it disrupted our sleep. The floor in the shower was too smooth - can be quite dangerous for elderly guests.
Review 116:The location is excellent with the parking only a stone's throw away. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bedroom and bathroom were surprisingly spacious. We had a room without a window but it was very comfortable.
Review 117:Only parking at open space parking lot feel insecure if single lady travel alone
Review 118:1st impression from outside of hotel not so impress but after step in the hotel &. Room is very well maintain & clean! The receptionist is very helpful & well manners! Lovely staying!!
Review 119:Not perfect location, quite a long walk to old town and new town
Review 120:Worth the price, the room is comfortable. The staffs are helpful. Breakfast is good, and the atmosphere for having breakfast is nice. Worth including it while booking.
Review 121:Good location Clean room
Review 122:Clean and Good Loacation
Review 123:Big thank you to the staff who we're excellent, friendly and very helpful
Review 124:Everything
Review 125:Don't like the open parking area, feel unsafe.
Review 126:Staff was so friendly and efficient.
