Reviews for Mansala Safari Resort

Review 1:The location of Mansala Lodge was great if you want to visit the National Park or the elephant orphanage. We only stayed one night but the evening meal was delicious and excellent value for money. The breakfast, which was waiting for us after getting back from the safari, was also delicious and plentiful.

Review 2:The fan was a bit small for the room. A fan fixed on the ceiling would be much better.

Review 3:We came late in the evening, but still Tyrone (the owner) could arrange a safari the next morning. Big room, warm shower, clean, nice dinner. Breakfast after the safari.

Review 4:We first booked 2 nights but then realized that there is nothing else to do in the area than the safari so we needed to skip the second night.

Review 5:Very convenient place for one night before a safari

Review 6:Electricity went on and off a bit, however I guess it wasn't their fault as repair works were going on.

Review 7:Very nice owner who helps you with everything, they prepared a delicious dinner for the whole group and even had birthday cake for one of the guest as a surprise. Overall a very friendly atmosphere.

Review 8:Safari guide/driver organised by hotel I'd rate as average. Think this may depend on who you get as a guide as some people have rated it very highly.

Review 9:Staff were great and really helpful. Dinner and breakfast was fantastic. Great to try a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast.

Review 10:I was so happy when I arrived at Mansala guest house coming from a cold Ella. My room was big and clean with a lovely bathroom and hot shower. The owner could not have been more helpful and made everything so easy, from arranging to pick me up from the bus stop to organising my safari with a group so it wasn't super expensive as a solo traveller. His brother our driver was great, very knowledgeable, we saw pretty much everything. They really want you to have the best experience. I stayed 2 nights so the owner took me to the elephant orphanage the next day free of charge. It was so lovely to see the baby elephants being fed. They are set back into the wild when they get older and aren't chained like other places I've heard about. The food was cooked by his sister and was delicious. They even let me help cook. I was given complimentary water and snacks to take on safari until we were back for the delicious breakfast of egg hoppers. The owner helped me to get back on my journey to Tangalle and even arranged for someone to drop my charger off in Tangalle when I'd realised I left it behind. Thank you so much for having me.

Review 11:Breakfast not included (400 rp). We had the room right next to road so lots of noice coming from outside. Food was ok, not great.

Review 12:It's a very good place to stay for one night if you're doing the safari in the morning. They will arrange it for you for a reasonable price. The place is easy to find if you come to udawalawe by bus. The room was clean. Wifi worked well. Staff was nice and we got some complimentary water and juice during our stay.

Review 13:There was a fan but no aircon and our room was very hot which was a little unpleasant. Mosquito net didn't fit on the bed properly. Also there was a family with kids staying in the room next door and they were very loud. Because rooms are close together the noise can be a little loud.

Review 14:The family who runs this place is lovely. The owner is so friendly and helpful. We had the best Sri Lankan dinner of our whole trip here! Fine for one night. Clean and comfortable.

Review 15:Absolutely nothing!

Review 16:Excellent guesthouse to stay in Uda Walawe! The family is very kind and organizes a great safari trip, our number 1 experience in Sri Lanka! Also the elephant orphanage is a recommendation to visit! You receive a take away breakfast for the safari and after arrival have a nice sri lankan breakfast. The owner helps you to hold the direct bus for you to Tangalla / Mirissa in front of his guesthouse. Just amazing hospitality! Tip: If you arrive by local bus don't ask to be dropped at Uda Walawe, because you end up at the jeeps for the safari park, which is still 5 km from the guesthouse. Ask to be dropped at the T-intersection in the village (there's a bodhi tree in the middle of the road)

Review 17:We had a VERY busy day before arriving at the hotel, so we didn't have a chance to have dinner there (we ate in town), and just crashed in our room and fell asleep. The bed was very comfy, the bathroom was nice, and everything was very clean. Despite the lack of A/C, the fan was plenty to keep us comfy and cool during the night. Nice breakfast too, and a very happy, welcoming staff.

Review 18:NOTHING!

Review 19:Run by an absolutely lovely gentleman and his wife, this is a gem of a spot from which to go to Uda Walawe National Park on safari. They are extremely welcoming, friendly, helpful and kind and damn good cooks to boot. Plus they organise the morning (or midday etc) safari for you from there, so you don't need to sort it in advance. Ask for Max to be your safari driver / guide - he's brilliant. Highly recommended!

Review 20:Friendly, helpful staff- arranged safari for us at good price. Family run business-went out of their way to make our stay comfortable- excellent breakfast and dinner.

Review 21:The host was very friendly and attentive. He organised a fantastic safari for us with an english speaking, knowledgable guide and he even packed us a bottle of water and biscuits for the ride. The rooms were clean and really comfortable. The food was plentiful and delicious. His place is well positioned, with the local bus direct to the southern beaches just across the road! Thanks for having us and we wish you all the best for the future!

Review 22:Nothing

Review 23:The Owner was very friendly and did everything to make us feel at home. We arrived at 1pm and he organised a safari for is which startet at 2.30 pm. We liked it very much. At night we had the best curry with rice so far. I even got the recepie for the wonderful aubergine curry.

Review 24:Nothing bad to report

Review 25:It was like a home away from home. From the time we came we were treated as friends, as fellow travelers in life's journey. The host couple is very friendly, full of smiles, attending to every little need of ours and preparing great food.

Review 26:We arrived at night and were exhausted from all the bus hopping but they came and picked us up, offered us drinks and arranged a great safari group so we could pay less and have more fun meeting other travellers. The breakfast was amazing! Best hoppers we had in Sri lanka. When we needed any kind of assistance or to rest until our bus (after the check out) it was taken care of. Nice and friendly. Great guide for the jeep safari.

Review 27:Nothing really. Got what we expected for the money. One suggestion. The bathroom in our room could use a curtain, diffused glass or something for the bathroom window.

Review 28:Basic but clean room. The diner was great and the owner very very helpfull and friendly. He even dropped us off at the bus stop. Safari can be arranged at his hotel (we paid 8000 for the two of us)

Review 29:Our review is about a room to the back of the house, the ones in the front can be a bit noisy.

Review 30:Warm welcome, including a drink. The owner and staff were really nice and took good care of us. We got excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner. There were mosquito nets on the windows, which was really nice. Overall one of the best places we have stayed at in Sri Lanka.

Review 31:They had guests from another hotel for dinner as well which meant they were stretched for serving dinner on time.

Review 32:This is a good base to go to the national park. They can help organise a safari for you.

Review 33:A family run business they were very friendly and extremely helpful. The owners organised our safari which was great with a friendly guide. Rooms were basic but adequate but the real attraction is the warm welcome and service we were given from the owners.

Review 34:The room doesn't have air condition

Review 35:The owner is very friendly and he made an excellent Sri Lanka breakfast. It is easy to reach the Udawalawa National Park.

Review 36:Everything was fine

Review 37:Very helpfull and nice owner, he arranged the safari for 2 of us for 8000rs included of everything. Tastefull homemade dinner and breakfast.

Review 38:Family can cook you really good dinner, however the price (or that it wasn't included) was not given to us of the meals, they just added it to the bill without saying anything. No AC. Not walking distance to main small town. We took 2 safaris (as the first was so poor) organised by the Hotel. The first driver was not good, did not speak to us or explain about any wildlife and we saw little wildlife. The second safari with a different guide was incredible and we saw a leopard, elephants etc...

Review 39:20 minutes drive from National Park. Friendly family who helped us organising safari, and onwards transport. Meals were great. Nice spacious and comfortable rooms.

Review 40:This hotel wins hands down on service! The owner is great, he welcomes you with a juice and the in the evening his wife cooks one of the best meals we have eaten (for approx £3 each). The next day breakfast is brilliant as well (plus included in the price). The rooms are basic, but fine and the bathroom is quite new and modern! As like other reviewers have said, it is near the main road, so take earplugs (sri Lanka locals like to use their horns a lot)! Uda Walewe safari We didn't really understand how the set up of this worked. There is 2 options. A. Get a taxi from your hotel to the park entrance, there will be lots of independent drivers there with their own 4x4 car and will charge around R4,000 for the car (no matter whether there is 1 person or 6 getting into the jeep! B. Arrange with your hotel for a jeep to pick you up from the hotel and go direct the park (prices are similar as above, so possibly the best option). However, it may be cheaper if there is just 1 or 2 of you, as you can find other staying in the hotel wanting to go and thus splitting the cost of the jeep! Entry: everyone has to pay the national park entry - approx r3000 each. I was travelling with my wife. We shared a jeep with 2 others from the hotel and the total was R8,000 for both of us (including everything). Our driver was great, very considerate of the bumps and we got to see pretty much everything we expected - would definitely recommend using the hotel's safari package

Review 41:Very loud (directly located at a street). But it is possible to choose a room to the garden

Review 42:friendly stuff, 100% service. The dinner (rice and curry) was excellent!

Review 43:We were made very welcome an took the safari tour organised by the owner, which was fantastic.... we saw over 130 elephants. The owners’ father took us free of charge to the nearby elephant orphanage. We ate two evening meals and breakfasts here all, were homemade and delicious.

Review 44:Nothing,service and experience first class

Review 45:Everything! Fantastic venue with very friendly and attentive owners who literally couldn't do any more for us. Meals were authentic Sri Lankan and delicious; would suit most people.safari was excellent. Excellent value for money and in fact we would have paid much more. Safari and food was much better value for money than other places we stayed and looked at, plus more professional.

Review 46:Cleanliness not the best but OK for expectations and price. Fans are pretty loud.

Review 47:Friendly and helpful staff. Proximity to National Parc. Good relaxing area in front of the rooms.

Review 48:Rooms on the front (roadside) quite noisy.

Review 49:Breakfast was amazing. Bathroom had warm water and was clean (first time in Sri Lanka). Host was very welcoming and the safari was easily arranged.

Review 50:It was a pity that the owner of the hostel was gone for most of the time. The other people who work for the hostel cannot speak english that well so any questions we had about transport/gettinng there etc was difficult. We took a tuctuc to the busstation and we asked it overthere.

Review 51:The hostel is very new and the room was really nice with a good shower. Also the food was amazing! They made a big table for all the guests and we had a very tasteful rice and curry. Also the breakfast we got after the safari was brilliant! Pancakes, rotti and toast with fruit and a nice juice! The price/quality of the safari tour they offer is very reasonable and the jeep is of good comfort! I would recommend everyone to go on the safari tour!

Review 52:We really have no complaints

Review 53:We enjoyed the wonderful hospitality from the owner and his staff. They were very helpful and assisted with organizing a lovely safari. Plus he arranged forva good driver to bring us to the next distination We will recommend Manzala

Review 54:The host was very kind and arranged all kinds of activities for us like the safari and took us to a festival. Location is very near to the park and the wifi is very good. The breakfast was the best we had in Sri Lanka!

Review 55:Superb home cooked meal in the evening, probably the best we've had during our stay in Sri Lanka! Really welcoming owners, very friendly, and a huge fan in the bedroom, so A/C wasn't missed at all!

Review 56:Lack of A/C. Temporary power cuts (in whole city).

Review 57:Great food - the best breakfast we had at Sri Lanka. Very friendly and helpful owner. Nice room and bathroom. Absolutely good value/price ratio.

Review 58:The host is extremely kind and helpful. The family will grwate you as if you were an old and most welcome friend. Host speaks english with full proficiency. Room is spotless, bed comfy, bathroom excellent, food delicious. The host organises safari for excellent price. What more could you want? I definitelly higjly recommend this place to everyone!

Review 59:Realty Nice Time with Realty Nice people nice food nice bed !!!! nothing to say just go there and spend your night at Mansala Safari !!! Thx you again

Review 60:I travelled alone, so the safari was expensive. However the driver did his best to reduce the price for me.

Review 61:Great welcoming family. Rooms are kitted out with everything you need. Fantastic food also!

Review 62:The friendly host cooked us a great meal with some curries we hadn't seen before in Sri Lanka! The safari was well organised, affordable and a 3 hour fun ride with lots of wildlife!

Review 63:Clean comfortable rooms. Owners, Tiron and his wife were very friendly and helpful. The food they cooked for dinner and breakfast was excellent probably best local food we had on our trip. Ideal location not to far from Park and elephant orphanage. Tiron can also arrange safari for you.

Review 64:very nice and helpful staff, great breakfast and room, the best value for the price I found in Sri Lanka, just feel pity that you don't have why to stay a bit longer in this place since nothing else to do than visit the safari

Review 65:There was no mosquito net in our room and we had to reclaim the bed linen. After that we got a new room which was bigger and with a mosquito net. But the guests arriving next day had the same problem as they got the room where we have been put in first. Water stains on the walls and ceiling irritated us a little bit.

Review 66:Tops: Friendly hosts, free WiFi in all areas, warm shower and nice dinner prepared by the owner's wife. The host, Tyron, arranges Safaris to the Uduwalawe Park by himself - just ask him when you arrive. Plus, he drives guests who are staying longer than one night free of charge to the elephants orphanage. If we knew before, we could have saved the money for the TukTuk. Generally the communication in English was not easy...

Review 67:Owner could not have been more helpful, organised a great safari and day out in surrounding area. The meals cooked by his wife were amazingly good! The rooms are simple but clean & comfortable, and great value.

Review 68:The main window of our room was situated in front of the street so it was terribly noisy in the room.

Review 69:The staff was very friendly and the cooking was awesome!

Review 70:- Not a lot of privacy because it's a teeny tiny place- Power cuts on both nights we were there (and it's really hot!!!) - Mosquito nets across the windows would be nice so we can leave the windows open for some fresh air and when the lights go out

Review 71:- Super nice couple - could not do enough for you- GREAT safari organised by them - best out of the 3 safaris we did in SL - Clean room, modern bathroom and great shower - Great food (if a bit bland by SL standards) - really generous and nicely priced

Review 72:The room is not good. Rain leakage on the roof. It may cause by the wild monkey. But he repair it soon

Review 73:The room fee is very valuable. Pay 8000ruby 2 people for the Safari. The hoster will arrange everything for you. 700ruby 1 person for the dinner. Very good Indian food You will have the breakfast when you come back from Safari.

Review 74:We enjoyed everything here - of course, you're in tropical wilderness, so don't forget mosquito spray! (There is a net for the bed)

Review 75:We stayed here for one night while traveling between the south coast and Hill Country. We were amazed by the wonderful hospitality; this resort is actually a family home, and the hosts do absolutely everything to ensure a happy stay - arranging safari tour, preparing delicious meals, and even a ride to the bus stop. If you're going to Udawalawe NP, this is the perfect place to stay.

Review 76:The accommodation is next to the road but then again so are all the other guest houses so don't be put off by this.

Review 77:The food was excellent. One of the best evening meals of our trip.

Review 78:Very very warm welcome by the owner! Clean rooms and a comfortable house. The owner arranged all kind of things for uss and even helped us preparing our Jeep for the safari. We could join for dinner and had the best Curry so far. Breakfast was like a 5 star hotel! Nothing but good memories and compliments to the owner.

Review 79:Really friendly and welcoming couple. We arrived in the morning and a safari was organised for us that afternoon. Delicious home-cooked food. We were even treated to a lovely cake to help celebrate their 1 year wedding anniversary. Very spacious, clean rooms and a good shower!

Review 80:Sanitary No hot water No airco Nothing else to do except of safari. (Do not arrive too early) it is recommended to do the safari in the morning.

Review 81:Kind staff and good dinner! We asked for a mosquito net and we got it. Organization of the Safari

Review 82:We only stars there one night but it was probably the best night of our trip. They welcomed us with a very warm welcome. Te rooms are very clean the staff (owner and his family) are very helpful and the food was excellent. We would defensively recommend this place

Review 83:There was no hot water kettle as written (you do get tea upon arrival though) and it's right next to a road, so a little loud sometimes.

Review 84:The owner organized the safari for us, they have their own vehicle. It cost 8000 in total for us two, going together with four others on the safari. Nice and easy: open communication about cheaper when going together. Also dinners were nice, just need to ask. Vegetable noodles with an egg on top were really tasty, Curry a real treat with about 7 dishes! Owner very friendly :-)

Review 85:This guest house is run by a really nice couple who go out of their way to make your stay work. They organised a good safari at a good price. Highly recommended.

Review 86:The facility is new, everything was simple, but clean and the owner was so nice. You could see how he is excited about our stay. We liked his attitude a lot. He also managed safari to the Uda Walave park for reasonable price. And food? Ohhh, so delicious homemade food.

Review 87:Everything was really nice. We were driving from sigiriya and arriving very late (2am) even at that ungodly hour we were created with smiles and a cup of tea!! We also hadn't organised a safari for the next day and they kindly offered to organise it, which they did, and it was amazing!!!! If I'm ever back in sri lanka and wanted to do another trip to udawalawe national park I would 100% stay there again and recomend it to friends. Very happy with the service provided. Such a lovely couple!

Review 88:The food was so delicious homemade with a lot of choice Trip to udawalawe well arrange by the owner. He even took us to the elephants transit home. The owner and his wife are very nice and helpful.

Review 89:nothing, it was all good!! :)

Review 90:Warm welcome, we were greeted with a fresh juice. Easy to find location on the main road. Amazingly delicious food, some of the best in Sri Lanka. Lovely clean rooms with a great shower and a comfy bed! They organised the safari to pick us up from accommodation and drop us off at no extra cost. Incredible value for money!

Review 95:Very small property

Review 96:Staff are very helpful and nice

Review 97:The room was a little warm with a fan only but not too bad.

Review 98:A great safari arranged by the guest house owner and a very pleasant stay.
