Reviews for Auberge Aal Veinen

Review 1:The hotel is part of a nicely renovated building with a famous grill restaurant at the ground and first floor. The 9 rooms have all been thoroughly and beautifully restored, with excellent bathrooms. The spirit of the old building has been kept but modern comfort like walk-in showers and dark tiles with floor heating make the rooms as good as or better than many 4-star hotel rooms I have seen. Wifi works well, parking can be a problem in the busy season. I also suspect that during the summer the noise from the street terrace below can be loud when you retire early. In that case opt for a room in the back, with lesser view but more quiet. We enjoyed the good, hearty breakfast. The restaurant is great, especially for real meat lovers.

Review 2:Beautifully decorated, with a modern/rustic feel in this old vintage building built into the rock face. Very cosy feeling. Staff super nice and friendly, restaurant worth the visit alone!

Review 3:Try to keep luggage light as it can be quite difficult to negotiate the stairs.

Review 4:We were given a second floor room which faced the front of the hotel. The room was light and airy, and more than adequate for our two night stay. The room appeared to have been recently renovated, and as I've said in other reviews I judge a room by its shower and this one again was excellent. The included breakfast was very good for a continental breakfast, and included the usual fare, however the Auberge came into its own at night time when the charcoal grill was fired up and the steaks started coming out. They weren't exactly cheap..but they weren't for the faint hearted, the cattle must have been the size of dinosaurs. The atmosphere was comfortable and the restaurant was obviously a favourite haunt for locals. Everyone should visit Luxembourg once to see how clean a country can be. It puts England to shame! Well done and thanks for the stay.

Review 5:Had to park on street a short hike away (via stairway) on the street leading out of town. This didn't bother us, as we dropped bags off at the hotel first, but it would be more challenging for seniors or people with disabilities.

Review 6:Pretty guest house with quaint street views from our window bedecked with flower boxes. Modern, attractive bathrooms. Convenient dining in cozy pub that occupies the ground and first floors.

Review 7:Rooms rather small for the price and no lift so not perhaps a place for a long stay. Wi-Fi signal too weak to use upstairs.

Review 8:Amazing characterful place in a lovely location. Superb, hearty food. Great staff attitude and hospitality. Nice atmosphere.

Review 9:- no elevator - room might be a bit small for two ppl

Review 10:- perfect location, 7 minutes walk from the castle - perfect modern bathroom - nice staff - very quiet at night

Review 11:It gets a bit warm and there is no airco. You smell grilled meat all the time, as the hotel is the top floor of a steakhouse.

Review 12:The location is great, the staff very friendly, the room was very big and clean. The breakfast was amazing, fresh bread and croissant, any coffee you ask for.

Review 13:Loved the Auberge Aal Veinen, our waiter was so attentive with enormous attention to detail. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left he was checking we were ok, giving me paracetamol for a headache, offering local advise. The food was amazing, yes large portions but also very tasty gratin and salads. The breakfast is well worth it, fresh breads, boiled eggs and local ham. The room was perfect, lovely wooden beams, very comfy bed and a great bathroom. Would throughly recommend this place to friends and family.

Review 14:Not sufficient insulation of room - can be noisy from restaurant and neighbouring rooms, not possible to adjust temperature in the room (but the staff can support with better heating), glass (partially transparent) door to the bathroom, breakfast is not included in room price, kitchen is closed at 10 p.m - make sure you are in time to order your dishes for dinner! All above are not big issues though and should not spoil your stay and visit to Vianden

Review 15:Friendly and helpful staff, cosy and romantic wooden clad interior of the room, modern bathroom, restaurant with great food and enormous dishes just downstairs, great location on ancient street with Vianden castle on the hill above. Although no parking on site, it is possible to park nearby.

Review 16:The hotel was closed so we received a email with the alarm code. We arrive in a dark hotel, no people. In the morning the staff walked into our room while we are waking up :-./

Review 17:Good breakfast, good nice room with great bathroom

Review 18:Nothing I can find other than patchy WIFI

Review 19:A gem of a spot in wonderful Luxembourg on motorcycle trip from Ireland ton Germany and back. Excellent rooms. Super easy food in first class restaurants. It has genuine authentic charm

Review 20:Slightly annoying across Europe is the tendency to push two single beds together to call it a double. Seen this a few times, but certainly isn't as comfortable as a true double. The most expensive place we stayed on our trip and mostly well worth it, but could have been a rich cheaper to be excellent value.

Review 21:Such a great character venue. With the caste looming right above it this place is very special, while remaining very authentic it is well renovated with modern bathroom etc. the highlight was certainly the evening meal. Really great meal in authentic surroundings. Staff also great. Really fun place to stay. Highly recommend.

Review 22:Parking was full so had to rely on street parking which was not great. Could not figure out how to adjust the heat and the room was a little too warm.

Review 23:Location was great, front-desk staff was friendly and helpful. Gave us a map and directions to the markets that helped a lot.

Review 24:Extremely attentive and professional staff, comfortable bed, modern rooms (the bathroom was particularly good!) and great food just downstairs. Also a great location in Vianden town, only a hop and a skip away from the famous castle

Review 25:No onsite parking but there is free parking just up the hill and we were able to park outside to drop our bags off. By the time we had finished our steaks it was too late to get dessert - which looked amazing :(

Review 26:Lovely modern rooms, great steaks in the restaurant and really helpful staff.

Review 27:See through door to bathroom a bit weird; steps to upstairs rooms a challenge for anyone with lots of luggage.

Review 28:Great location, charming ambience, very nice restaurant (enormous and delicious grilled meats for those with big appetites, other nice dishes for the smaller ones), lovely breakfast, pleasant staff.

Review 29:Slight traffic noise as the road outside is cobbled.

Review 30:Lovely room at the top of the building. Bathroom ultra modern. Dining excellent - the food was delicious. Would definitely visit again.

Review 31:The food here is excellent. We dined in the hotel on all four nights and never had a disappointing meal. The staff are very helpful and really try to ensure you have a good stay. Garaging 50m from the hotel for our motorbikes at no extra charge. Very good location in shadow of the chateau.

Review 32:Service, management.Booking was made for a twin room but this turned out to be a double. The manager, however, gave us 2 rooms for the same price as a twin.

Review 33:Great location. Good food in restaurant and substantial breakfast.Very large room and very quiet at night. We liked the chicken theme around the restaurant with all sorts of poultry statues, paintings and objects.

Review 34:The cosiness of the wooden clad interior. The attention to detail in the design, materials and furniture in the bedroom and the hotel in general. The standard and variety of choice for the food at dinner, along with the generous portions sizes and the quality of the house wine. The setting and choice of the generous breakfast. The attention shown to us by the staff.

Review 35:The bathroom had an auto light and glass walls, so everytime one of us went to the bathroom in the night the other got blinded. Whoever thought of it was obviously not over 50 !!

Review 36:Look of hotel , breakfast ( plentiful & delicious), great dinner . Clean rooms with funky bathroom ! Friendly owners.

Review 37:Very little, though the rooms are smallish due to the nature of the building and the single rooms have very large beds which rob space.

Review 38:A very characterful old building. Restaurant for both dinner and breakfast, with excellent food and wine and friendly, attentive service. Fabulous new bathrooms.

Review 39:No air conditioning (it was quite warm and humid). The walls are very thin so it sounds like the other guests were in your room!

Review 40:Very friendly welcome to the hotel. The room was very modern with a nice en-suite and walk-in shower area. The flame-grilled steak meals were fantastic and highly recommended. It was quite well located to town, though probably a 10 minutes hill walk.

Review 41:- face to main road (which is brick base instead of paved room) so if there is traffic could be really noisy. for this reason i can't stay actually for more then one night

Review 42:- room is warm and in good size - restaurant offer real good quality steak - very very close to the castle.

Review 43:Room 4 had a cooling fan but the room was still too warm after a long day on the bike in high temperatures.

Review 44:Excellent service, hotel with loads of character, fantastic steaks and wine. Garage for the motorbike, great location. Will visit again but for 2 nights at least.

Review 45:nothing

Review 46:Beautifully decorated rooms with stunning bathrooms, fantastic restaurant with great atmosphere, steaks were awesome, delightful old building full of character

Review 47:it was exceptionally hot so the rooms were stuffy, would have benefited from fans but if only hot like that once in a while then .......not worth it.

Review 48:Well organised and ready bikers and their bikes. Food great, beer cold and decent wine list. All very welcoming.

Review 49:It was particularly hot the two nights we stayed and although we were given a fan which did help - air conditioning would be an added bonus.

Review 50:Location was excellent being right in the town. Garage parking for the bikes was superb. Food was really good, would recommend eating here, even if you are only visiting Vianden.

Review 51:Noisy street outside and as no air conditioning had to have the window open so could hear the traffic from very early in the morning.

Review 52:The bathroom was extremely well fitted out. The restaurant was excellent and the staff were lovely.

Review 53:Very cosy and stylish family hotel, just few paces from the center of the town and the castle. Everything is with personal touch, friendly staff. Nice and comfortable rooms with nice bathroom with shower. Very comfortable big bed with a brand new mattress.

Review 54:The room was very warm. If you opened the window you got the noise from the hotel kitchen fans kicking in most of the night. Really needs either aircon or fans providing.

Review 55:The hotel was very well located, but at the top of the hill, although parking was very easy oposite the hotel. The Manager is excellent and so helpful. Breakfast also very good and value for money. Our room was No. 4. Very nice room at the back with fantastic bathroom and shower at the back of the hotel. Steak house in hotel very good.

Review 56:They closed the restaurant a bit early.

Review 57:The food and general atmosphere. We arrived on our bikes and got the best welcome possible. Parking for motorcycles 50 yards from the hotel.

Review 80:Close to center and hotel fits the environment

Review 81:Superb food with exceptionally helpful and friendly staff.

Review 108:Food was amazing and the place was very cute. Can't wait for the opportunity to return.

Review 109:Street noise.

Review 110:Vianden is a charming little town. Restaurant downstairs is very convenient, although the portions are huge and hard to finish. Staff was very accommodating. Visit the chateau.

Review 111:Watch out for special arrangements on a Tuesday when the hotel is open but the restaurant / reception can be closed. Free over night parking on near-by ( hilly small Square) could be full at peak season.

Review 112:Location and Quality of food and fitments. Recommended.

Review 113:Very friendly staff, excellent food, very comfortable rooms and a great location! We have visited this hotel before, and we will definitely come back ;-).

Review 114:The room we were given was small so we had little room to move as we had to store all of our motorcycle luggage.

Review 115:Staff very friendly and made us feel welcome. Great location (just under the castle) and we could park our motorcycles in the garage up the road.

Review 116:oh, we arrived rather late, so we didn't have the chance to try dinner at Aal Veinen. Also restaurant nearby closed rather faster than we expected. But a small cafe/restaurant was kind enough to make an exception for us and treated us to custom-made evening dinner. Wow! Thanks !!!

Review 117:Warm reception, really nice room with nice vintage furniture combined with great modern bathroom/shower. Vianden was part of our road trip. We first intended to stay only for a short while, but fell in love with this place and stayed longer. We arrived in Vianden by nightfall and got an amazing light-up castle panorama for welcome. Also the hostel is excellent location. The restaurant looked really great, shame we were too late to try the food. Next time !
