Reviews for Nature House

Review 1:Nothing

Review 2:Great guest house. Lovely meals, clean and comfortable room, easy to arrange safaris through the owners - a lovely family who really make their guests feel welcome.

Review 3:Wonderfully friendly staff. A delicious evening buffet and an equally lovely breakfast (the coffee was the best we had in Sri Lanka). A safari was arranged with no hassle and with a friendly guide. Our room was air conditioned, which we weren't expecting, and was comfortable and well-furnished. Highly recommended!

Review 4:Not much to do other than national park safari.

Review 5:Family run with lots of personal attention. Small but beautiful guest house surrounded by gardens. Delicious meals. Spacious rooms. Great balcony!

Review 6:Breakfast was tasty, but western. Since the owner is a great cook, he should think about serving local breakfast, which is great. We spent two nights here, but one night in Udawalawe is enough. Besides the safari there is nothing else to do.

Review 7:Me and my friend had a great stay at this place. The owner is very friendly and does everything to make you feel comfortable. The room was one the best we had in Sri Lanka: good beds, hot shower, everything is very clean and there is reliable wifi. Both nights we had dinner here, great rice & curry!

Review 8:This guesthouse is fabulous!! It is really great value for money! You feel as though you are staying in the wild, but have a beautiful modern and clean bedroom and bathroom. The owner is a great guy with interesting stories to tell. His wife cooked us an absolute feast for dinner - Sri Lankan curry. We also had a great breakfast!! Probably only worth staying a night or 2 as there isn't too much in the area other than an elephant transit home and safaris.

Review 9:The nicest host we met during our three weeks in Sri Lanka! He took the time to talk to us about how life in Sri Lanka and answer our questions. The best Rice & curry we had during our trip!

Review 10:Only knock is no hot water...actually, we had a water issue. Everything else was great.

Review 11:The staff was superb, the place was clean and well cared for, it was close to the park, it had a great feel and the dinner was delicious

Review 12:We had an unpleasant and unprofessional experience with this guesthouse, which turned out to be the only negative experience in our Sri Lanka tour! The owner cancelled our room booking on the same day we were supposed to arrive at Nature House. In fact, we arrived there and everything was shut down: the neighbour told us the owner had closed the hotel down for renovation and gone away for several days, without informing us. Only after several attempts our driver managed to contact the owner who said had informed booking.com the previous day (but nobody informed us!). We had to hurriedly find another accommodation near Udawalawa. Very poor experience and unprofessional handling of the situation by the owner.

Review 13:absolutely nothing 100 % recommendation

Review 14:very, very friendly host great dinner at their place very close to the uda walawe national park no better place to stay for a trip into the national park host organized our own safari tour worth the stay

Review 15:Miscommunication about the price for private transfer to next destination.

Review 16:Location + they organise their own jeep safari (highly recommended)! Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 17:Everything was perfect. Very peaceful place. Lovely host. He organized us the safari immediately after we arrived at the Nature House - it was fantastic. Great food as well.

Review 18:Just be aware that we still paid 1250 rupees each for the jeep even though we had 6 people in it (4000/6 = 666). Maybe we didn't bargain hard enough. We had such a great time on the safari though that it was all worth it.

Review 19:The rooms are immaculate and very comfortable. The food is very good and the breakfast was outstanding. The bread is locally made and is the best toast we have had in the last 4 months. The safari organised by the host is very good and the jeep is comfortable and the driver is knowledgable and speaks very good English. The host was extremely helpful with directions on how to get to our next stop. He and our driver also arranged for us to get a group discount on the park entry fees which we wouldn't have known about otherwise (2500 pp instead of 3000). Would definitely recommend Nature House.

Review 20:Quite a few flies/buzzy things in the eating area. People come here to do safari at Uda Walawe national park. This is easily arranged via the host. Unfortunately the park is crammed with massive jeeps with only two people in each. Please talk to your fellow guests and join them in their Safari vehicle to reduce the impact on the lovely elephants! The host doesn't seem to realise that this would be more eco-friendly, or perhaps he's only interested in maximising his commission... Our host arranged a tuk tuk for us from the guesthouse to Embilipitya station (500lkr) from where we wanted to get the bus to Tangalla. The tuk tuk driver kept stopping the tuk tuk trying to persuade us to let him drive us to Tangalla. He did this at least three times, pulling over and pleading with us. NOT COOL. Worst tuk tuk drive we experienced in Sri Lanka.

Review 21:Surprisingly bug-free rooms, considering the proximity to nature. Lovely bathroom and big comfortable bed (proper mattress). Host is friendly. Food's good too!

Review 22:Everything was perfect!

Review 23:Verry frieny staff with a lovely host who helps his guests with everything. His wife prepares dilicious curry, served on a romantic porche. Great rooms, great price, also possible to arrange to jeepsafari on same day of arrival.

Review 24:Owner cancelled one night on us. Sent confusing message before arrival concerning situation. Taxi driver he selected for onwards trip was dishonest and overcharged for highway tolls. Food was ok, not sure what people are raving about.

Review 25:Organized excellent and cheap Safari led by his cousin. Did a lot of browsing before settling on Nature House. Highly recommended for safari.

Review 26:Not related to the hotel - but the tuk tuk driver the owner called to take us to Tangalle tried very hard to take us to his brothers guesthouse instead of the one we booked - so watch out!

Review 27:Really friendly owner, excellent food at dinner. Clean rooms and situated off the main road, so it's quiet and peaceful at night. The safari offered by the guesthouse is also very good.

Review 28:Not much that you can walk to as was a little far, but fine if going on safari as jeep collects from guest house.

Review 29:Thilak was an excellent host, a great family set up. Lovely room, nice balcony to sit & watch the world go by. clean. Dining area outside was great. Also Thilak organised our safari for us & was very helpful. Wifi was OK in communal area. Really nice breakfast.

Review 30:Great location to explore the National Park and the Elephant Transit Home. Quite rooms away from the main street, terrace with view in to the lush vegetation. Absolutly clean rooms. Very friendly and helpful host. Breakfast and dinner of very good quality, nice eating area. Jeep Safari booked directly at the guest house was amazing.

Review 31:Extra charge for air conditioner (but still very cheap!)

Review 32:Great hospitality from the owner Comfortable rooms Good value Delicious home cooked dinner and breakfast Amazing patios overlooking the jungle Great driver for our safari

Review 33:Great guesthouse with a host and owner who loves his job. Dinners with fantastic curries nice breakfasts. If you want to see the elephants he will arrange for that too. 6 swedes from Stockholm were very pleased!

Review 34:Lovely room on the upper level, great balcony with a hammock, great food and wonderful owners. The restsurant is like a semi open air hit which is so atmospheric and rustic.

Review 35:It was close to the park entrance and also within walking distance of elephant transit home. Food was good and room was comfortable. It was excellent value for money.

Review 36:Unlike most other guesthouses where we stayed in Sri Lanka, breakfast was not included in the price of the room.

Review 37:We really enjoyed our stay at Nature House, which is in a great location surrounded by trees that create a really peaceful atmosphere. The hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful with providing tips on places to visit. We would definitely stay here again!

Review 38:Slightly pricey for our budget, but really worth the money! No bad comments.

Review 39:The staff was incredibly kind and did everything to make us feel at home and comfortable. One of the best guesthouses where we ever stayed, very clean room, beautiful house and delicious home cooked meal! The driver of the safari jeep was also very nice and was a real guide that provide us enough information on the wildlife we've seen.

Review 40:Very well appointed and maintained property throughout. Excellent shower and very comfortable room. Very friendly host and food very good. We had breakfast and dinner and both were excellent.

Review 41:Special thanks to the manager Thilak, who arranged a Safari last minute for us and had a lot of useful tips for us and our journey! We enjoyed the dinner he cooked for us, delicious!

Review 42:This guesthouse was fantastic with beatiful garden ,spacious and Clean rooms. The owner Mr Thilak is a relaxed and very nice man, helps you with Everything. His curry dishes is tasty. We booked jeep through him when we visit udawalawe natural park and his brother Chirantha was a perfect guide. This park is a Beauty and you will se elephants, peacocks, crocodiles, buffalos and a lot more.Dont miss this.

Review 43:Nothing to complain.

Review 44:Friendly and helpful staff. Good food. Quiet location for relaxion. Well arranged safari in Uda Walawe national park. The owner offered us a free ride to the bus stop next morning. Recommend this place.

Review 45:You can tell that the owner truly cares about each customer. He wanted to make sure everything was good in the room, and goes out of his way to help you out. Really recommend taking the safari tour through him. He has 2 jeeps and his guides are really knowledgable. We have already recommended others to go stay there

Review 46:Bit more expensive than other guest houses (but we think it is worth the money). WiFi did not reach to inside the room.

Review 47:Friendly owner. Nice looking and clean room, with a beautiful balcony in a rustic location. Food is good as well. Altough we stayed two, a one night stay including a safari could have been an option.

Review 48:Friendly hosts, lovely food, genuinely nice husband and wife team, everything comfortable. The owner, Tiluck helped sort out a problem with a taxi driver (arranged in Ella). The safari was v professional (elephants, birds, crocs) and he even managed to get us to the elephant transit camp. Found us a nice driver/taxi to Tangalle. Thank you for a happy 24 hour stay (stay longer if you can, otherwise it's a rush, but all ok).

Review 49:Really nice guest house! Rooms are comfortable and clean. Friendly owner always wondering around with a smile on his face. Dinner and breakfast is excellent. We organised the park tour and taxi to Ella through the owner. Highly recommend

Review 50:Our only negative was some fellow guests who seemed particularly demanding and without many manners . It annoyed us they were making extra work for the owner!

Review 51:Nature House is a lovely property. The owner was fantastic. He could not have done more for us during our one night stay. He was friendly, helpful and very warming. He arranged our safari for us which was such an amazing experience, and not at all expensive. Our guide knew his stuff and was an ace driver, willing to go the extra dirt track mile for us to get the best views of the many animals we saw (we counted about 17 different species). During our 2 week holiday Nature House has been not only our cheapest hotel (the owner could easily have doubled his prices and we would have happily paid) and one of the most enjoyable experiences. 10/10 all round!

Review 52:Simple and very clean. Great hospitality! Owner came a picked us up from ella and drove us to his hotel. Also organises the safari through hotel. Truck and driver/guide was great.

Review 53:The owner of the place is the best! We also booked the safari through Nature House, and must say, that the driver / guide, was awesome. Nature House is a small place with few rooms, but everything works there. Breakfast / food was good and the portions were big. We also enjoyed the location of the dining area close to the nature. :)

Review 54:Fantastic stay- the host here is incredible and absolutely makes his place what it is. Food is incredible, which is good as there is nowhere to eat nearby! Safari organised was excellent. We had a perfect couple of days and could not of asked for more.

Review 55:Shower head was just a tad bit low for a 6"4 man to comfortably shower!!

Review 56:Great little guest house, very close to Uda Walawe National Park. Very hospitable hosts and clean, comfortable rooms

Review 57:The owner was all time around, a little bit annoying. The hotel was verygood but maybe a little bit overpriced, but this is something thathappens in many hotels in Sri Lanka

Review 58:Rooms were clean and comfortable, the safari we took to Udawalawe parkwas very good (we paid 3500 lkr for the jeep and guide and 6000 for theentrance, two people).

Review 59:The grounds are so well kept and pretty. We would eat our breakfast and the owner (who is so lovely and friendly) would feed the birds so we could watch the different varieties that are around the park. The room was well laid out, clean and looked very professional. There are many books provided for you to read at your leisure while resting on the balcony. The meal was one of the best we have had while in Sri Lanka. Fresh, hot and tasty.

Review 60:The water kept turning off which was rather annoying but the owner very quickly fixed it each time

Review 61:We were in an upstairs room and there was a large balcony we could sit out on and enjoy the evening. The food was great!

Review 62:Great welcome of this nice family (welcome fresh juice cocktail so gooood) Great localization Very good advice for the safari we did with his brother in law (very nice guy) for a good price + organization of our next travel to Haputale The delicious Rice and Curry!!!

Review 63:Wifi was a bit unreliable.

Review 64:Excellent guesthouse with a dedicated owner who looks after everything and cooks delicious meals. The lodge was beautiful, comfortable and very clean. They also have a good guide for the safari.

Review 65:Very comfortable rooms, with a close up view of the teak forest. The food is absolutely superb. The hosts are lovely and very keen that you have a great time. The safari, organised from the property, was excellent and our driver worked very hard to show us as much as he could.

Review 66:I guess they could install a shower curtain. But now I'm being picky.

Review 67:Perfect location. Such a friendly family-run place, in a quiet location where squirrels are playing under your verandah or hammock. Only four rooms, spotlessly clean, cozy and comfy. You can see that the owner, who worked in tourism for 23 years, is overjoyed to finally have his own place and intends to make his guests share in the happiness. Although it's family-run, they're not inviting you for diner with them or pass by your room for uninvited chats, thankfully. They let you enjoy the beauty and calm on your own. Highly recommended.

Review 68:We often found that we had no water in the bathroom but this would be very quickly rectified once staff had been notified.

Review 69:The upstairs rooms are spacious and have a wonderful balcony where we sat and had coffee and watched and listened to all the birds in the nearby trees. The breakfasts and curry dinners were delicious.

Review 70:The owner is amazing friendly and helpful. The room is súper clean and confortable. Dinner was the best food we had in the country. We arranged as well our Safari with them, the driver was our animal watcher as well so we did not need any guide from the park. They drived us to our next spot in Sri Lanka for a fair price.

Review 71:Great place to stay, we had the safari with their jeep and was amazing, also we went to the elephants orphanage and I must say I enjoy to see how they care about the elephants and love the fact that tourist are able to see and heft pictures but not to disturb the elephants! The food was very good and we enjoy our staying a lot

Review 72:There are cheaper rooms in Sri Lanka. But You really get good quality for the money.

Review 73:Kind owner who cares about his guests' needs (including a very nice safari). You can see his experience in the hotel industry: perfectly cleaned modern rooms and a comfortable bed! You should absolutely try the tasty dinner.

Review 74:Spotless rooms, nice garden view. But most of all: Fantastic safari tour with the owners brother as a guide. Superb eyes, even spotted a cameleon at a far distance. Over 60 elephants at one single trip, he knew his way. The owner is a bit of a character, in a very charming way. Great chef as well. Overall great value for money.

Review 75:Host is eager to push dinner and safari tour to us. When we asked for take out breakfasts all we got per person were four slides of toasts with scrambled eggs in them. Also the simplest sandwiches didn't taste good.

Review 76:Clean and comfortable room.

Review 77:We booked for three nights and stayed only one night, we did a safari early in the morning and found out that there is not a lot more to do. But the accomodation was perfect.

Review 78:Very good food! The owner helpfs you to arrange a safari

Review 79:Only one room is air conditioned - we had two rooms and would happily have paid for air con in the second.

Review 80:Upstairs rooms are pretty much brand new, very well furnished and very comfortable. Food was great, and the owner gave us helpful information and organised a great safari for us.

Review 81:Very clean, excellent bathroom and a fantastic host. Only a short drive from the park, also provided a very good jeep and driver who was an accomplished spotter too.

Review 82:Fabulous home cooked meals - best we've had in Sri Lanka. Clean, comfortable room. Hosts were so hospitable. Owner has his own tuk tuk and jeeps so safaris can be arranged through them at good value.

Review 83:Host (Thilak) was the most customer focused person we have met in Sri Lanka & makes you feel a very valued guest in his home. Room was brand-new (upstairs) & spotless. His wife cooked amazing meals. Location was beautiful with birds in garden & just down the road from National Park. He arranged a good price jeep safari with his brother-in-law & gave us tips on how not to incur additional charges at the park. His brother in law was excellent picking out wildlife we wouldn't have noticed (he had amazing eyesight). He even gave us a lift to the bus stop when we left. If you want to visit Udawalawe, then we would recommend staying here.

Review 84:Wonderful hosts who really look after you. Simple authentic fresh sri lankan food caringly prepared and presented. The game drive using his jeep was brilliant with a driver who really knows where to go in the park. Not saying this just because we saw a leopard (!) - see our photo- but because he was also very knowledgeable about the bird and plant life as well. A brilliant place to stay.

Review 85:Maybe a second ventilator would be a good idea to maintain a more pleasant room temperature

Review 86:Very friendly and helpful owner, nice location hidden away from the main street, dinner buffet was good, good Safari driver/guide

Review 87:Nothing to complain about.

Review 88:Everything! Thilak arranges all the stuff for you: safari, transportation, etc.. and cooks delicious local dishes. Rooms are great in middle of jungle. We really enjoyed staying in Nature house.

Review 89:I suppose the Wifi was a bit on and off, but Tilak went out of his way to help me when I needed the Internet. You can't expect perfect Wifi when you're in such a rural location anyway!

Review 90:Genial host who really looked after everything while I was there. Very likeable character who always had a smile on his face! Great food and organised a great safari while I was there. Thanks Tilak, keep living the dream! :)

Review 91:Nothing comes to mind!

Review 92:Very friendly and entrepreneurial owner who has spent his life working in the tourist industry and has realised his dream of opening a small guesthouse, perfectly located for a stopover in Uda Walawe national park. We were very impressed with the food, friendly service and perfect setting of this family-run place. The safari tour with his brother-in-law was excellent too - he is clearly one of the more experienced guides and definitely worth booking through the hotel.

Review 93:Thilak and his family are absolutely delightful and we could not have wanted anything more from our stay. Great location in a quiet part of town, beautiful clean rooms and some of the best food we've had in Sri Lanka. His brother in law took us for a wonderful safari too.

Review 94:fresh fruit/eggs and juice for breakfast, delicious fresh fish for dinner Helpful, organized host. He planned a safari for us. Comfortable beds--the real Sri Lanka so far away from where the world where I am working as an ex-pat in Colombo

Review 95:Thilak provided fanatstic Sri Lankan food. Our room had AC and a jungle view. The safari was great and all arranged by Thilak as was the tuk tuk journey down to Tangalle. We had a restful break with a caring family. We hope we can return next year.

Review 96:This lovely family go the extra mile to make sure your stay with them is enjoyable - the owner bought our son a dice so he could continue to play a Sri Lankan game which he'd enjoyed with some local kids. Really clean rooms, yummy food, lovely gardens with lots of birds and much better WIFI than some bigger more expensive hotels. Really good driver for Safari too.

Review 97:None

Review 98:Tilac was extremely helpful who took me to the doctor in his tuk tuk to solve my stomac problem. He made us enjoy a memorable evening.I highly recommend it. Elias

Review 99:One night is probably enough. The accommodation is beautiful, so one could easily spend a longer time there. But to our taste there is not much more to do in Udawalawe.

Review 100:Very charming and clean hotel! Excellent food, too! We loved the safari in Udawalawe and the visit to the elephant orphanage.

Review 101:We had a warm welcome, and it may have been the best place we stayed during our 2 week trip! The room was nice and comfortable, the grounds are lovely, it's right by the park, and the owner was very helpful. The one time we really felt like we were given good deals and the owner cared for our wellbeing. The food was great, and the upper terrace was perfect for enjoying tea and relaxing with a book. Can't say enough! Stay a few days if you have things to do in the area!

Review 102:Nothing; this is a must stay when you want to visit udawalawe!

Review 103:From the moment we arrived everything was taken care off and everything was possible. Whether it was food (great dinner and very nice pancakes with fresh coconut!!) or the safari that we went on. The safari was arranged by the owner and we went with his driver. A great experience; he knew and saw every animal and had allot to tell about the nature. The price for the safari was very good - especially compared to other operators in the neighborhood. We had a great stay and they arranged everything perfectly!

Review 104:Nothing all was good

Review 105:The place is very authentic and run by the most welcoming and sweet local family. The hosts made us feel at home from the instant we walked in and by the time we left we felt like leaving friends. The host can organize safaries, which we took and were completely happy with.

Review 106:The peaceful luxury of this place will have you wanting to stay another night. One night is all that is needed for the safari but stay for two and relax, you will not be disappointed.

Review 107:We had a fantastic stay at Nature house. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed with food, beer and a comfy room, what more could you want? The safari was amazing and all arranged by the host. I'd 100% recommend a stay at Nature house, I'm sad I'm not still there.

Review 108:Very clean and comfortable place. Certainly one of the best we have visited in Sri Lanka. The owner is improving there everything down to tiny details and is attentive for your wishes. He organized safari for us. The dinner was delicious.

Review 109:The owner Thilak and his family are great! The room was comfortable and clean. The tropical garden and the lovely terrace were beautiful. The food was very delicious. Thilak was very helpful ,his great host. We were in safari with his cousine and it was amazing. We felt ourselves very well. Nature House is the best Hotel in Sri Lanka! Recommended for everyone! Anna & Ákos Hungary

Review 110:Very clean and comfortable room. Enjoyed the hot shower and the owner was very nice and welcoming. I'm traveling by motorbike and already did the safari before I arrived. He was kind nontheless. The garden is a nice place to relax in. It wasn't on the menu but I asked if he could make a banana pancake for breakfast and it was no problem and it was delicious.

Review 111:Nothing to not like

Review 112:Everything!! Thilak the owner has put a lot of thought into the nature house. Very well designed (we had a room upstairs) very clean- you feel like you're in a tree house. Perfect accommodation for Safari and thilak will arrange this for you in his own jeeps at a good price. Food also amazing. I could go on as everything exceeded our expectations- thank you Thilak :)

The Fine Print
