Reviews for Kiyoshigekan
Review 1:thin wall cause we can hear the noice from corridor, bedding also too thin, no bathroom inside the room.
Review 2:Characteristic hotel, japan traditional spa hotel, good hot-spring pool, front garden awesome, good price, boss carry us to the bus station by his car. thanks for giving us a great moments on Kusatsu.
Review 3:Bad experience of service and breakfast tastes horrible. Please do not try breakfast here. I even find street vendors better than this
Review 4:Nice view and good bathing onsen qualities
Review 5:It's about 15 to 20 minutes from the bus station, but this is only a con if you don't like walking. It's a nice chance to see the little town!
Review 6:The onsen are all very cute and nice, the people who are working there were very kind and the breakfast was excellent!
Review 7:It was a bit far from the town centre. There is no hot water in our room.
Review 8:Great food and nice staff. The staff drove us to the bus terminal when we leave.
Review 9:It take us about 10 min to Yubatake.
Review 10:Nice and friendly staff. He is good communication in English We sent him an email ask questions, suggestions and ask for late check-in. and he is prompt response us anytime. Private onsen both indoor and outdoor.
Review 11:A little bit difficult to find; also it's quite a long walk with suitcases from the bus terminal when there is no taxi to take
Review 12:Onsen is good; there are one private indoor family bath, one private outdoor bath, two large public indoor/outdoor baths (one room for men, the other room for women); the two large public baths can be used privately between 9 PM and 8 AM. Dinner/Breakfast are also alright.
Review 13:this ryokan is just amazing. The price is actually very low compared to other ryokans. we had a really relaxing time, the baths are lovely and you could reserve them in the evening. i recommend the dinner, it was delicious, enourmous and very traditional.
Review 14:Far from bus station and so it's not convenience for who travel with large luggage or older people.
Review 15:good outdoor onsen that you can use in Private. Nice japanese style room with private toilet.
Review 16:The location. Its 10 minutes walk from the terminal bus station. 10 minutes walk to the Yubatake. At night there aren't many streetlights so its kinda dark to walk especially if you're alone and its raining.
Review 17:The baths were very nice. The staff sent me to the bus station since its quite far by walking esp with a big luggage
Review 18:The indoor onsen is too hot. Maybe the temperature is ok for the locals.
Review 19:Clean and comfortable. Very good Japanese breakfast. The indoor onsen too hot but the outdoor temperature just nice. Shigeta-san was kind to send our luggage to Kusatsu bus station.
Review 20:High time for the owner to change the cushion cover of the seat in the room. It looks too old.
Review 21:Include meals if to stay in this premises. Dinner is good.
Review 22:The location is somehow hard to find. They should put more signs
Review 23:The place is comfortable and the people are very attentive to the needs of the travelers. The food are more than enough for us. The kimonos are clean to wear.
Review 24:Found out people actually can view the private outdoor onsen from outside, feel not really "privacy". Away from town center, but acceptable.
Review 25:We like the private onsen provide by Kiyoshigekan. Room is comfort & nice view. Maybe because of language, staff didn't talk to us much.
Review 26:None.
Review 27:Reasonable cost for stay within walking distance of centre of Kusatsu Onsen. Clean accommodation with small private and shared onsens. Excellent wifi available in room and public areas.
Review 28:The way to go to hotel is full with snow on winter. Have to be careful because the road is very slippery.
Review 29:The place is very quite. Good place for take a rest and escape from the big city.
Review 30:The walls are a little thin, so at times, I could hear the other rooms. But it was not a big bother as the other guests are quite considerate and not too loud.
Review 31:I went to Kusatsu onsen for 4 days, 3 nights in Feb 2015 for skiing & onsen. It's value for money as compared to other ryokans that are surrounding the Yubatake (central Kusatsu). The town is pretty small so you can walk around. Kusatsu Onsen bus terminal is a a short 10 min walk away but I suggest you take a cab (cost me 730 yen) if you arrive with big luggages as it can be hard to walk in the snow (in winter). Although there is no pick-up service, when you leave, if you need a ride back to the bus terminal, let them know a day in advance and they will drive you back. The service is not extravagant like what you can expect from the luxurious ryokans but it is good and friendly. I took the half-board, and the meals were of quite big portions. You can always ask for more servings of rice. Their meals are always balanced with salad, rice, meat, egg, local vegetables, fish, soup, etc. There is free wifi so you can surf the internet freely in the comfort of your own room. I also like that the public onsens can be made private by hanging a rental card at the door, from 9am to 8am, so you can enjoy private bath time by yourself or with your companions. I have read some bad reviews about this place, but I think the Japanese are very big on rules and for being punctual so you need abide by their rules and be on time for breakfast (8am) and dinner (6pm). If you are checking in late, you need to call them in advance. Respect others and they will respect you.
Review 32:We liked everything!
Review 33:Rooms was immaculate, Onsens were always available (very fortunate), breakfast was delicious, location was perfect (a short, leisurely walk to Yabatake), etc.
Review 34:The location can be difficult to get to during the winter season. It's close to the yubatake but the pathway can be very slippery with the ice and snow. The baths were much smaller than I had anticipated and the changing rooms only had a small heater which could barely combat the cold that permeated everything. Otherwise, it was all very wonderful.
Review 35:The room was big and very comfortable. It was a wonderful stay. The outdoor bath was also very comfortable. The staff were kind and accommodating.
Review 36:when weather turns bad (e.g., raining or snowing hard) and you don't have a car, then this inn is not ideal if you need to travel on foot to the bus terminal or center of the town. There are taxi for hire, but bit pricy.
Review 37:comfortable, clean, great in-room WiFi connection, friendly staff and good meals
Review 38:Nothing major, but I personally would prefer not to get a new towel, Yukata and toothbrush every day. Maybe implementing a simple system were the customer can choose when to get new towels would be a way to safe water and energy!
Review 39:The staff was really incredibly friendly and helpful. The Onsen (baths) were very clean and thus excellent for relaxing after a long day of skiing.
Review 40:The female hot spring was very dirty. The staff were below average for a ryokan. After barely welcoming us, the dinner staff curtly informed my girlfriend (Japanese) that she was wearing her yukata incorrectly. Upon checkout, the staff told me I couldn't pay with a credit card. I asked about the credit card machine present with the sign that said they accept Visa. She said the guy who knew how to use the machine wasn't there. She had a set of instructions on how to make a credit card transaction, but her eyesight was poor and she couldn't read it. Finally, she invited my girlfriend behind the counter to follow the instructions and make a call to the company to confirm the charge. Big hassle.
Review 41:Location is amazing, right near central Kusatsu. Any of the hot springs can be reserved for private use from 9pm-8am. The male hot spring was amazing.
Review 42:Walking along a busy road with no footpath to access the place, not very welcoming staff.
Review 43:Private onsen with the option of indoor or outdoor, traditional feel, nice little town
Review 44:The hotel was a bit far to walk to the town centre during the winter. Very cold. Certain parts you have to walk uphill, a bit tiring for young children.
Review 45:The owner was helpful and friendly. Very willing to give us a ride to the bus station and to pick us up. Breakfast was good value for money and delicious.
Review 46:The location. It's a bit far from bus station and not so easy tofind, especially in the night. However, I think that's why the hotelhas such a good meal and bath with valuable price. They also offershuttle bus to bus station at 9:20am everyday. Btw, the meal is servicedin the dining room rather than your own room.
Review 47:The staff were nice and know a bit English. The meal both dinner andbreakfast were Soooo good. After 9pm, you can have the onsen/bathroom privately. We enjoy the outdoor hot spring with the snow fallingdown, which is really like a dream!!! The room was small but clean, wifiwas stayable, too. The most important thing is the price was valuablecomparing other hotel nearby bus stop.Ps. If you are a fan of Hayao Miyazaki(宮崎駿), the water sounds in the animation Spirited Away(千尋) is recored from here. So they have his signature on the wall.
Review 48:Steep stair to 2nd floor but if you accompanied elderly, chair lift is provided (must supervise by staff only). At first we would like to try their dinner but 4000jpy/person is way too expensive.
Review 49:Room is at good standard with private w/c. Share bath and onsen is good especially outdoor onsen.
Review 50:A bit far from the station if you are coming by foot and with luggage(luckily I had only a small one)!
Review 51:Awesome dinner and breakfast - don't skip your chance toexperience traditional meal in ryokan! The guys who serve the food cangive you small tips in case you don't know how to eat one dish oranother. The owner was friendly; he gave me a ride to the bus stationin the morning.
Review 52:Hardly anything wrong. Maybe a little away from downtown but the walk is not far and quite pleasant.
Review 53:Impressive outdoor onsen both private and public. Exceptional authentic tatami room completed with comfy futon. Definitely will come back to this hotel again and again.
Review 54:Could be hard to find without GPS. Walls between rooms seemed thin, could hear the neighbours. One futon may be hard to sleep on for some.
Review 55:Onsens, all become private after 20:00. Would be a good place to introduce beginners who feel intimidated by all the onsen etiquette in front of others. Rooms were clean and pleasant with toilet and sink (showers in the onsen). Kusatsu Onsen was a nice town, recommend walking to the Yubatake after dinner, livelier vibe than is normal in small Japanese towns.
Review 56:Small downside: no hot water. We used the hot fountain water instead.
Review 57:This inn was a very nice experience for us: clean, and a taste of the more Japanese traditional-style inns: tatami floored (6 tatami in our case), futons, yukata, and paper-glued sliding windows. Absolutely fantastic: several small inside and outside onsen are attached to the inn. They can partially be reserved for private use. Very relaxing! Other reviews here had mentioned the ryokan's distance from the bus station: check your favorite / google maps for the location beforehand. Yes, it is a (very easy) 10-15min walk, but once you looked it up you can't miss it. There are also a few signs along the way pointing to the ryokan. If you want less walking, you will likely have to pay (much) more for the same style and comfort, to be closer to the center.
Review 58:I would have liked a choice of cereal for breakfast. The Japanese breakfast was too heavy for me in the morning.
Review 59:The hotelier arranged for our bus and drove us to the station. He was very helpful. Our room was lovely with tatami mats and futons.
Review 60:slightly off from the village center, though only 10-15 minutes walk but being in mountain, when it gets dark it is dark. village center is lively and may be a good experience to stay in one of the inns next time to enjoy nightlife at an onsen resort. but for regular visit, i will return to kiyoshigekan.
Review 61:everything from inn to the town. it is a great weekend getaway from tokyo . the owner and his family run a great inn and the food is divine.
Review 62:We got to use the private bath. Not a lot of people come out to bath after 9. We felt so private using it. The owner sent us to the bus terminal even though he seemed busy in the morning and usually can't provide pick-up service.
Review 63:Dinner maybe on the expensive side. Location is 10 minute walk from Yubatake and bus station. Not a problem if you don't mind the walk but if you want to be in 'the centre' then this may be too far.
Review 64:We are two students travelling around Japan, who wanted to try the onsen experience. Good range of onsen facilities, particularly the outdoor baths which can be used privately after 9pm. The optional dinner and breakfast was good with great range of dishes. Very clean throughout. We were offered a lift to the bus station after our stay which was lovely considering the amount of luggage we had!
Review 65:The location to far from bus terminal
Review 66:Like the home stay feel
Review 67:nope
Review 68:The owner is very nice and helpful!
Review 69:I could not fine the email contact in website.
Review 70:There are private onsen during 9pm-8am.
Review 71:Location was bad. Full of hills with bumpy roads.
Review 72:Location is not easy to find.
Review 73:This hotel has not much rooms therefore it feel privacy to stay and use all facilities. Food is okay as well.
Review 74:Love it. Cozy nice hotel with private onsen. Great massage chair. We totally relaxed.
Review 75:Saw cockroach The onsen water is dirty. My husband got skin problem after having outdoor hot spring.
Review 76:Staff are nice. Food is great.
Review 77:onsen a bit old
Review 78:Bedroom good condition with good view and private bathroom
Review 79:The small onsen was enjoyable.
Review 80:I could hear other people's footsteps
Review 81:Free private bath usage
Review 82:nothing
Review 83:Onsen
Review 84:Some distance that need to travel to get to Yubatake
Review 85:Breakfast and Dinner are very good.
Review 86:Free Wi-Fi in the room, English friendly, pleasant staff nice and clean onsen (spa ♨)
Review 87:Unfriendly reception staff
Review 88:Very nice area, onsen was great and easy to access Food was good and access to shops wasn't too far.
Review 89:We loved the charm of the ryokan, the view of the mountainside from our room, and the ability to book private time in the onsen right at the hotel.
Review 90:Breakfast & Diner
Review 91:Diner and services
Review 92:Distance from bus terminal No shower at room
Review 93:Possibility of private "onsen" (hot bath)
Review 94:We did not like the location. It was very poorly located and difficult to find as there weren't enough signs leading you there. Also the hotel owner did not speak english that well so at times it was difficult to communicate.
Review 95:the private baths and foot baths were great. Also the dinner was well presented and yummy,.
Review 96:1. Unkind, rude, the worst service ever I have not yet before. We were lovely young people, the time when we arrived at Kiyosigekan Ryokan was about 11 pm. Although I had written a email about our lately check in, the clerk man who had curl hair, Short height and wear a glasses on his eyes.. looked at me and was very angry for and said "This is late time to check in" "Closed now, finished already" And He didn't explain anything how to use Ryokan and he went his room immediately. Next Mornig when check out time. He was angry and said " You are late for Check out time for 10 minute..So you have to pay 30,000 yen more.." He never told me the check out time..He was just angry and spread out to me ..It was Japan, in Ryokan. Finally I explained the situation rationally, to have no reason to pay extra charge.. After many arguing, he continuosly was arngy. Finally after he approved my card and said to me.. " Get out of here, get out " He twisted the receipt paper of approved card and threw on my face. And He came out of counter and pushed to my shoulder(excatly he hit me). "go out" He shouted to me. Can you imagine that? It was really happend. I was very upset and complained many times but he never listened to me. He was rude, unkind, violent, terrible. 2. Cheating We stayed in ROOM number 203. We had a reservation through booking.com for ROOM size "13m2" But size of ROOM 203 is "9.6m2" that I fined out, examined, searched through internet site the right information. He deceived me, The RYOKAN was cheatin me.. 3. Don't go Kiyosigekan Ryokan. I hope every one who read this review would not go to Kiyosigekan Ryokan. This was real happened at 2014 / 01 / 31 ~ 02 / 01 4. I had many evidences for this So for many people's sake, Kiyosigekan Ryokan have to be let down of the Booking.com
Review 97:Nothing
Review 98:It's quite a walk from the Bus Terminal, so if you are going with big luggage it can be a bit troublesome. There are no private showers, so a bit troublesome that you need to use the bath if you just want to do a quick shower.
Review 99:The bath and outdoor bath is great! I love the spacious room too!
Review 100:Just a bit of distance to walk to the Hotel , but not a big issue .
Review 101:The Hotel's owner is very helpful and give a lot of information and I feel very comfort to stay in the Hotel , also the food is very nice , the Japanese morning breakfast .over all I'm happy .
Review 102:It's a bit of a walk to get to the center of Kusatsu onsen village, maybe 5 or 10 minutes (but really not that big of a deal).
Review 103:Friendly staff, able to speak English when we needed help. When we went it was the middle of the week, so there weren't many people and the baths were pretty much our own, which was nice.
Review 104:A little bit difficult to get the wifi.
Review 105:Breakfast was very good and delicious. When we checked out, it was very nice that the hotel offered a free ride to the bus station .
Review 106:The staff at Kiyoshigekan was fantastic. I came knowing no Japanese and they we're patient and helpful. I would recommend this Ryokan to anyone traveling to Kusatsu. The food was amazing, the baths were relaxing and clean, and it was an overall excellent experience.
Review 107:Quite difficult to find the place as there were many small road. Probably can help if a sign board is placed at the junction between Hotel Takamatsu & Ootaki no yu?
Review 108:The onsen (both indoor and outdoor, private and public) were lovely. Quiet and peaceful surrounding. The ryokan staff was nice and helpful - if he didn't tell me that the view from Mt. Shirane ropeway was extra good that day, I might had missed it. Thank you!
Review 109:The traditional ryokan with onsen is really beautiful. The staff is friendly and service excellent. The breakfast is a little expensive but do at least once time. Perfect.
Review 110:It was very snowy / icy and no - one in the area had used any grit or salt and so it was highly treacherous underfoot.
Review 111:The onsen pools (both private and public) were lovely. It was very quiet when we went so we had the place to ourselves. Beautifully equipped, clean, traditional Ryokan style rooms (on 2 storeys, double-glazed windows, proper walls).
Review 112:Have to walk about 10 min between the centre of the town and the ryokan.
Review 113:The ryokan staff is very friendly and helpful. Clean and comfortable ryokan with nice Japanese food.
Review 114:A little difficult to find, but you could take a cab.
Review 115:There were some great restaurants near the hotel, but I would recommendenjoying the Japanese breakfast at this ryokan. It will only set youback about $10 and includes baked salmon, homemade miso, rice, tea, salad with local fresh vegetables, and more. A little hike through thetown, but worth it. Especially for the view of the mountains! The hotelhost was helpful & gave us a ride to the bus station.
Review 116:Nothing.
Review 117:The numerous onsen in the building that could be used privately. Amazing. The little bit of distance from the centre of town and the bustle was also nice.
Review 118:think the irori dinner is bit too expensive for the food that they serve.
Review 119:we like the after 8 privet system for the onsen, me and my wife can enjoy our sweet onsen time together.
Review 120:The staffs were very polite and helpful. The Japanese breakfast (though it's not included in the price) was excellent. The bedroom is clean and tidy with great view. This accommodation has great indoor and outdoor onsen (hot spring tubs) and the location is kind of nice (around 10 min walking from the station) - though it was a bit hard to find when i first arrived.
Review 121:The room is too small. The facilities are old and dated.
Review 122:We can use the onsen as a private facility after 9:00 pm.
Review 123:Location is a bit far from the bus station.
Review 124:Hot water bath .. Hotel staff are very friendly and offered a drive to the ski area.
Review 125:Quiet and comfortable. Allow us to take open-air bath privately.
Review 126:Small room with tiny toilet. Dusty.
Review 127:Private spa. Free Wi-Fi in the room. Breakfast.
Review 128:Nice outdoor onsen. Good dinner.
Review 129:a bit difficult to find
Review 130:Nice, clean, quite, perfect for relaxing time!
Review 131:Location.
Review 132:its far from the town center
Review 133:personal hotspring
