Reviews for The Astor Hotel Motel

Review 1:Location for my purpose was good . Trying to work late Saturday night was near impossible due to the noise from the hotel / night club . Some other patrons were much less that thoughtful when they returned from they function that they had attended .

Review 2:A bit of noise at 11pm and later. Very 60's decor but if a renovation makes the price rise, then I'm happy with 60's! A noisy shower which I worried would alert the neighbours!

Review 3:Very friendly staff, lovely bistro dinner and being Thursday was well priced. .Being able to take my meal to my room was nice. Bed comfy, TV good reception

Review 4:Old noisy rooms .. hotel may have refurbished every where else but certainly not in the rooms.other smaller hotels in Goulburn have much nicer rooms with facilities for same price or less. On the day of checkout a staff member walked into my room with their own key at 9.30am ... not pleasant. Limited parking also an issue.

Review 5:The carpark was full, possibly due to customers who were not staying at the hotel, so I had to park on the other side of the street. It would have been good to have a table (inside), but the room was probably too small for that.

Review 6:The room had all of the basic facilities, including good aircon, at a very good price. The hotel bistro was only a few metres away.

Review 7:We have stayed here a few times while my husband is there for motorbike racing & find it is central we know what it's going to be like when we get there. Food is good & staff nice.

Review 8:Rooms were basic but clean. Some single use shampoo/conditioner would be a plus. Motel building in need of renovation - the hotel section has been renovated to a high standard.

Review 9:Location at Canberra end of main street excellent. Shopping and restaurants all within easy walking distance. Staff pleasant and helpful.

Review 10:There was loud music coming from the hotel. At 11.00pm I complained. The manager was very rude and said that I should have asked about the music on check in. He must have thought I had a crystal ball!

Review 11:The meal

Review 12:A bit noisy at times and other guest can be disrespectful leaving food out on the outside table and banging loudly on doors at night..

Review 13:Love. How the staff are helpful & friendly love the hotel Bistro love that we are in walking distance to shops cafes park.. Cleaners are friendly helpful and sweet... My friends thought it was a great place to stay as well !!

Review 14:Bad smell in room. Room very small and no sink in bathroom.will not be staying under present conditions again. Unacceptable parking.

Review 15:Location was convenient.

Review 16:No parking available as it was taken up by pub guests. Could walk to front door due to cars, bushes and tables in the way. Cracks in room and above shower. Small shower and bathroom. Couldn't close door while you were in there.

Review 17:There is limited on site parking so if you arrive after 3 or 4 PM you park on the street and not close to the hotel. The bistro is expensive and not good value.

Review 18:Shower head sprayed everywhere. Very hard to get temperature right in shower. The room smelt like bleach. Floor looked dirty. Rust stains and bottle top in sink. Very noisy at night. Expensive drinks at the bar.

Review 19:Seeing my family.

Review 20:On site parking facilities are poor . (40 units and only 20 parking spaces with a "first in gets the parking spot" policy according to an employee.)

Review 21:Located within walking distance of town centre. Clean compact room.

Review 22:there are 40 rooms but only 20 parking spaces most times you have to park in the street however I was lucky I was in room 4 but I had to park at the rear of the hotel and as I use a walking stick it was a bit of a hassell for me. But thestay was good.

Review 23:For the price it was value for cost

Review 24:The room was very small. The bathroom wasn't adequately lit. There was no desk to work from. The doona was ripped and not warm enough. The room was very drafty.

Review 25:The restaurant has recently been done up.

Review 26:Only 1 out of 3 power sockets actually work. Reverse cycle airconditioner doesn't work making the room really cold at night. Leaking taps. Toilet is really small, you need to sit down to open the door to exit the toilet.

Review 27:Convenient location to the major restaurants and shops.

Review 28:The place is a dump. Facilities right out of 1950. No parking, booked but no places available. Who ever heard of a shower head coming out of the ceiling? Window locks broken or non existent. Door broken around lock ? previous break in. No security chain. Only one extra blanket in room. Batteries flat in remote control for heating and on it goes. You need to fix this dump up. I could not recommend it to anyone.

Review 29:The water was hot BUT nothing else.

Review 30:Nothing really

Review 31:Staff very friendly. Issue with aircon unit and a dicky bathroom light switch attended to quickly. Great location on Main Street. Some building works next door meant 40 units and 20 car spaces but no noise a problem and we still managed a park. Good food in pub. Very convenient for a drink before bed.

Review 32:The rooms are very old and run down and my bed felt like an ironing board!!

Review 33:The location is good and it is great to be close to the pub and restaurants etc The rooms were nice and warm.

Review 34:Poorly laid out rooms AC not functioning properly Poor upkeep of rooms Dangerous wires exposed in wall

Review 35:Great Pub/Restaurant Modern and Stylish appearance Affordable Great Location

Review 36:The bar staff stopped serving drink at about 12am to a group of us staying at the astor. Even though closing was 2am. Then after allowed the local regulars to stay, drink and play pool while refusing the customers who had paid to stay at the place.

Review 37:Owner was nice

Review 38:room was poorly maintained, peeling paint, cracked and peeling woodwork and bench tops, generally rundown and in need of renovating. extremely noisy guests in other rooms. drinks in the bar were too expensive.

Review 39:hotel meals and entertainment was good. convenient location to town.

Review 40:My reverse cycle heating was ineffective. A cold breeze whipped through the side and bottom of the unit door. Very, very dated rooms compared to the rest of the hotel - due for an upgrade! Band played till close to midnight.

Review 41:Customer service was excellent, very quick check in and check out. Handy location, easy to find. Comfy bed, well priced, value for money.

Review 42:Shower was a bit dodgy - kept fluctuating between cold and scorchinbg hot. Wouldnt stay at one temperature

Review 43:Great, comfortable room. The Astor is in a great location in the main street. The pub has a nice atmosphere and had some fantastic entertainment.

Review 44:The shower head was horrible it was really hard when hitting your skin. Some of the power point did not work so was hard to charge phones

Review 45:The bed was amazing so comfortable. And it was good to have a working heater/aircon

Review 46:It was great to walk out the door of your room and straight into their hotel for drinks and a restaurant with a lovely menu without having to drive the car anywhere.

Review 47:Rooms a little run down missing a few things but perfect nether the less ☺ even though the rooms were old but had everything you needed and it was clean!

Review 48:The staff were amazing.. will be coming back purely for the staff you guys made us feel at home like we were locals loved it!! Rooms were clean and comfy ☺

Review 49:2 Power outages in one night & told by duty manager to find out from other Guests if they were using Excessive Power!! Insufficient Car parking for Guests, had to park on the Street!

Review 50:Price

Review 51:It seemed that most people stayed overnight, as was quite noisy with people coming and going. Most motels have an info pack, advising things to do. This one didn't. The rooms are a part of the pub next door, so Friday night was extremely noisy!

Review 52:Comfortable accommodation for short term, as room was small for the week I stayed. Walking distance to different restaurants, and attractions. Attractions were mostly of the museum nature.

Review 53:The noise from the hotel disco and people talking loudly outside until 1.00 am. The rooms are poorly designed and in need of refurbishment. No reading light next to the bed. Reception unattended at 8.30 am.

Review 54:Close proximity to the convention which I was attending. Handy to supermarket.

Review 55:Room and bed were both extremely small and water was dripping from the roof in the bathroom. at minimum the bathroom need to be renovated.

Review 56:Unfortunately I stayed at this hotel with a number of family and friend and due to the extremely high demand on the room the rate was over the normal and once I saw the room I was not overly happy about it. It did have a really good hot shower!

Review 57:The bathroom was old with paint peeling from the ceiling. This was in the room also. Cheap price for a cheap room.

Review 58:The restaurant was very nice and the food was good

Review 59:Heater didnt work, froze all night. Over priced for the size and condition of the room, soap are the only toiletries they have on offer.

Review 60:Food was nice, location good

Review 61:Parking poor, blood stains on bed sheets, very poor general maintenance. Overall a very "tired" accommodation sector.

Review 62:Location good, staff good and courteous. Bar facility good but expensive.

Review 63:Bathroom dark and dingy. Liquid leaking from broken part of ceiling above toilet onto cistern. Not enough lighting in bathroom.

Review 64:Was comfortable and what I needed at the time. Did not make use of restaurant but was assured by others I met that there was good value for money and food good.

Review 65:No glass in the window of bathroom, rained during the night and you got wet going to the toilet. Flat batteries in remote for T.V

Review 66:Dinner was the best.

Review 67:Just a pitstop enroute but worked well for us. Why people complain on reviews really exasperates me. IT COST $85 ☺️ Absolute value for money. Get real people!!

Review 68:I didnt like that there was no parking easily available as hotel patrons would park where motel guests stay. The booking site said a cot would be available for free if a child under 2 was staying. When I went went to pay, they said no this is not the case and I had to pay for an "upgraded" room. The shower pressure was fine but there was no light in the shower so was dark and the ceiling was open so you could see the plumbing and a cold draft came in. Soap bars were provided but no shampoo or conditioner. Air cond didnt work. Wasnt all bad but you do get what you pay for...

Review 69:I did like the location of this motel. Directly side by side the hotel where you can have drinks and a meal or a fun game of trivia. Staff were lovely.

Review 70:Had to park on street as all inside parks taken.Staff member told me first in best dressed. After hotel closed 6 cars left, weren't even staying at motel. Not impressed!

Review 71:The outside appearance of the motel - walkways, stairs, seating was neglected and depressing. The bathroom was so tiny that the basin was in the bedroom. No toiletries provided except soap, not even a shower cap, and no hairdryer available.

Review 72:Well-located near centre of town, clean and comfortable, good bistro attached.

Review 73:Only one person could do the check in, so we had to wait a couple of minutes until he was ready to serve us.

Review 74:A good one stop shop for ok accomodation, good food at the restaurant, drinks at the pub, and live music. Good location to stoll up the main street and nearby attractions.

Review 75:We felt like we were in a sleazy stop over in America and should be putting money in a meter for the bed!!!! Décor very out dated.

Review 76:That it was in a good location for 1 night stop over.

Review 77:Paid Wifi is dumb! If they adverised "Free Wifi" their occupancy would improve and it wouldn't cost them anything.

Review 78:Check in.Park the car. Eat in the bistro. Comfy bed

Review 79:ceiling broken in shower and painted windows still let light in

Review 80:the restaurant was great (food, prices and service) and the price of the room was fantastic for what you get

Review 81:The rooms were very old, rundown and I noticed they had renovated the front of this hotel to look new but hid the fact that the hotel rooms behind the front renovation were so old, smelly and lacked the basic needs for a comfortable stay.

Review 82:The food in the bristro was excellent.

Review 83:Darkened shower cubical. Hot water took about 10 minutes to come through. Power points on right hand side of the room were not working.

Review 84:Sufficient overnight space. Handy fridge.

Review 85:We had a premium room upgrade! The light fitting was broken over the bed and one of the walls had been patched.. There was none of the usual motel conveniences such phone, clock radio, tissues, shower cap or sanitary bag in the room. The bed was uncomfortable and felt like springs were sticking into us. The people next door sat outside their room to smoke til all hours and ours was full of second hand smoke all night. The bathroom flooded when you used the shower because there was no hob. Although the location was good, we were in room 1 and there was a lot of highway noise. It might be better at the back of the complex.

Review 86:The convenience of the bistro at the hotel which served a nice meal. The room was clean and the bathroom had obviously been refurbished. The hotel is centrally located within the cbd

Review 87:Shower in the room shocking you turn it on and it wets the whole bathroom. The restaurant very disapointing we ordered four meals all of them were very average. not appertising

Review 88:The rooms were clean Pool was good. Good location

Review 89:Friend stayed in a standard rooms - these rooms are very tired with peeling paint etc - no bedside lights and in our opinion below par and not good value - urgently need refurbishment of the standard rooms.

Review 90:Premium room had been recently refurbished and was clean and comfortable and good value.

Review 91:Rooms are a little dated and tired, bed does not have heated blanket, no iron, no microwave. Not really set up for DIY meals.

Review 92:Pub has a gluten free menu selection. Meals tasty.

Review 93:The room was right alongside the main street. The noise from trucks and cars on a Tuesday night was incredible. Rooms further back would have been quieter. The wind blew around the door frames.

Review 94:Windows in bathroom were unable to be shut allowing mozzies and flies to enter and internet was a non event

Review 95:Location was perfect and just what we needed

Review 96:The young man told me twice i didnt have funds on my credit card and on my eftpos card.on the third try payment was made. Problem with the system, didnt appreciate accusing tone

Review 97:Walking distance to main shops

Review 98:Bed was only a double and sagged badly in the centre and possibly had bed bugs as my husband had red welts. Room was tiny and only surpassed by the pathetically tiny tv. Everything was old and poorly maintained. Also have not seen a single flush toilet for many years, not to mention the sink next to the bed. Don't stay here.

Review 99:Location was fine, handy to cbd

Review 100:furniture, bathroom, cleanliness, tv remote didn't work, fridge stupidly small, table and chairs mismatched, luggage table disgusting, will never stay there again !!! 120 bucks a night is a rip off not worth $50.00

Review 101:location to shopping

Review 102:Meals on the menu not available in the Bistro at 1830 hrs.

Review 103:The whole visit was enjoyable, the Hotel was adjacent to the location of our lunch and when we ordered our dinner at 1830 we were told that that meal was not available. Consequently, we went over the road to 98 Chairs and had an excellent meal. Vic Canberra

Review 104:My pillows were a bit flat

Review 105:Location, my room (14), the food at restaurant, housekeepers, hotel staff I usually stay with family but decided I prefer my independence and this was the way to go as I invited family members to the Astor to dine and party with me like I owned the place and the staff were great every one loved the food I will be staying there whenever I visit my family again which is usually 2-4 times a year.

Review 106:Reception. The reception counter is at the end of a busy bar, lounge/bistro area, and reception staff also have to do bar duties.Visitors are almost in the main drinking area in a pub environment. Reception was noisy, and at check in at about 6pm. we were in close proximity to a lot of noisy drinking men. Insufficient car parking. I was told on arrival that the Motel has 40 rooms, but only 20 car parks, so I was told to "park where you can." I would not have booked there if I had known that. There are no electric blankets, but the reverse cycle aircon, although noisy, kept the room warm. The hand wash basin is at the end of the bench in the room, and not in the bathroom. Neither good nor hygienic. Large trucks were noisy on a nearby street.

Review 107:Staff, although very busy, were pleasant. Quality of bistro food was good, and prices for both food and drink very reasonable, and service was quick. Check out was easy early in the morning, a willinng and pleasant staff member attended to me.

Review 108:Light over toilet only, no light in shower. Air con would not work, only on heat setting. Bed base bends and makes noise that it's broken

Review 109:Staff, location

Review 110:rooms old, very noisy rooms require renovation all rooms were charged at a different rate for same size and 1 night

Review 111:location, function attending was at the same location

Review 112:shabby fixtures and fittings, cramped parking in fact almost dangerous and full so we had to park over the road..noisy and disappointed the booking had been glitched on the computer four rooms booked but only three available on the night....Poor

Review 113:Not a lot

Review 114:The room was sold as a double room however it was micro small. Actually it was the smallest motel room I've ever been in. There was only one bedside table - even then there was little space between bed and the walls. No hairdryer, toaster, iron/ironing board or extra pillows.

Review 115:Location

Review 116:a lack of parking. first in first served.

Review 117:room was spacious. bathroom small, but good.we had a refurbished room but noticed other rooms still not nice as ours, not refurbished.

Review 118:Staff member throwing around empty beer kegs below the bedroom window for about 10 minutes at 9.30 pm ... startled the kids awake and had serious trouble settling them again. Was on the main road through town so traffic was ongoing.

Review 119:We had a two bedroom unit. Perfect space for young children to unwind, plenty of room to play.

Review 120:Look, if you're just after a warm bed for the night, then this is the place for you.

Review 121:It was very central and the adjoining pub was enjoyable (definitely try anything with the house smoked bacon!)

Review 122:Ridiculously noisy. Managed 3 hrs sleep. Same for my partner and companions in another room.

Review 123:Comfortable bed, and good location. Food is good if you can wait that long.

Review 124:Not enough parking for guests. Nightclub noise and bass heard in rooms. Toilet to small. Soap only no shampoo. Advertised cable tv and inhouse movies. Only fox sports. When will they get if we wanted to watch sports I go into the hotel bar.

Review 125:Bed is comfortable.

Review 126:The rooms were small and old and an awful configuration, especially the shower and toilet area. We had three rooms amongst us and they were all of the same poor standard. Definitely in need of refurbishment before any of us would stay there again.

Review 127:The location was excellent. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The motel room was clean, but we all had concerns about the showers, however I think they are just old. Having the hotel on site with great food was also a big plus.

Review 128:The staff were very helpful. It was close to the RSL Club so this was very convenient. They had excellent breakfast arrangements which was in the form of a packaged deal

Review 129:Tiny, nothing like the photos... Over priced for a motel.. Tiny double bed.. Room didn't even have a fridge.. Heater barely worked and it was freezing

Review 130:It had a bed

Review 131:We stayed in two rooms over two nights, both showers sprayed water from top of shower head and had pools of water in bathroom area. So much so that a towel was not enough to soak up to pools. Car parking is poor you are not guaranteed a park if motel was full u may be street parking. It seemed our toilet had been used before we arrived the first night. Cold rooms as air con was preset and you could not heat it up. Noisy as pub right next to rooms.

Review 132:Short distances to shops,

Review 133:Had stayed at the hotel before in a room that had been renovated, it was small but nice. On our second stay we stayed in a room that wasn't renovated yet payed the same price as before. The room was so old, was nothing like the first room we stayed in. The bath room had no sealing and the light switch had no cover over it. The rooms air con also was very bad and there was a sign suggesting not to turn the temp above 22. I wouldn't suggest anyone stay at this place.

Review 134:Other guests making loud noise till early hours. Breakfast not available at Hotel. Limited car parking for guests

Review 135:Good meals in the bistro, Good night time entertainment available. Friendly staff. Good position, Clean rooms, Pleasant ambiance in pub.

Review 136:The guy that booked us in had his own problems, we were obviously interrupting what ever he was doing & made sure we certainly paid for it by waiting for service then having the key thrown on the bench without lifting his head raised his arm & said your room is out there. I paid a days wages to be treated like this,

Review 137:Location & the friendly service in the bistro great food!

Review 138:Very cold bathroom. Power kept tripping out, woke up to no lights and no heater, temperature was zero degress at the time. Had to shower in the dark. Uncomfortable bed. When heater was working it was very noisey.

Review 139:Nice bar/pub. Relatively cheap.
