Reviews for Seyara Holiday Resort

Review 1:Roomdoor had some problems closing. No shower curtain in the bathroom (very normal in Sri Lanka but seen all was new here we kind of expected it)

Review 2:New furniture in room and bright colours. Very good food. Very friendly people. Swimming pool under construction for those visting in 2016 !

Review 3:Dont do the club sandwich!

Review 4:Great advice from the very lovely owner and friendly staff. Not too far out of town if you are happy to ride a bike. If you stick with the Sri Lankan food on the menu you will have a good dining experience.

Review 5:The door was only make by wood and not safe enough. There is alot of mosquito in the room but there have net for you.

Review 6:The room is very enough for 3 people and the stuff is very friendly! Price is very good!!

Review 7:We pointed out some minor repairs/decorating which the host said will be addressed shortly.

Review 8:The host family was very welcoming and hospitable. The traditional breakfast was the best that we had in Sri Lanka and the curries were home cooked, fresh, and delicious! The complimentary refreshment and homemade coconut cake were an added bonus. They assisted us with activities during our stay and onward travel. They were very helpful :)

Review 9:The guesthouse is very basic and the building where my room was located was yet to be completed and it didn't appear to have been painted inside. The power points were positioned about 1.5 meters above the ground which made charging devices difficult. There were no beside lamps and the switch for the light was on the other side of the room. The bathroom was small with the shower right next to the toilet resulting in everything getting wet. The gap between the toilet seats had not been cleaned throughly and was dirty. The owner organized my safari in the national park and the driver drove incredibly slow out to the park (I believe in an attempt to minimize the time spent in the park) and at a dangerously high speed on the way back. There were no credit card facilities in the guesthouse as advertised. The local service station's credit card machine was used I was required to pay by card for tax purposes and the transaction receipt reads "Nuts and bolts" instead of "Seyara Holiday Resort".

Review 10:Close proximity to the Polonnaruwa archeological site. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The Sri Lanka breakfast was fantastic!

Review 11:Sings to the hotel should be more visible as the hotel is not located by the main road.

Review 12:Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent food. Guest's requests are promptly and courteously addressed.

Review 13:Very friendly staff. I had forgotten the cable to charge my camera and they found one for me which they lent me for the rest of my holiday (sent it back by post). Great Food. Nice garden. They are building a swimming pool round the back, which will also be a bonus.

Review 14:Hard pressed to think of anything. The bikes are pretty old school - but for a few dollars to hire them for the day, I'm not truly complaining. Our door couldn't be closed without locking but, if you stay here, you'll realise that really isn't a hardship.

Review 15:Excellent advice from our host - specifically how to manage/approach the Polonnaruwa sights and what to see on the way out of town on departure. Also a great deal on a safari to see 'the Gathering'. The setting of the accommodation is really nice. Well established garden and open air dining area - we really enjoyed spending a day just hanging about the property before we went on safari.

Review 16:Broken shower handler but overall OK

Review 17:A nice family hotel with friendly staff. Rooms are OK, a balcony offers a nice place to relax in the evening. Food was very good

Review 18:we got very warming welcome, the owners and staff are very friendly. they reserved nice balcony room. room and bathroom are very very clean. that's the most important thing was us. comfortable big bed, good ventilation every thing was perfect for relaxing stay. we had amazing time and got more than we paid.

Review 19:rooms and bathroom are very very simple, used and smells after insect remover. There is no cotton cover for you to sleep but this polyester tiny scarf. Didnt sleep at all. But you get what you pay for and this is budget sleep. However, owners and family is very sweet and they do their best. Suitable for backpackers and solo travelers not more than ine night

Review 20:Very kind owner, treat us with coconut cake and pancakes in the morning. Wiilling to prepare u dinner or s snack if u ask for it. I wish them only good customers they are nice people.

Review 21:Room needs a bit of fresh paint

Review 22:Friendliest staff I've ever come across. Owner fixed us up with great tuk-tuk driver who took us around and to the next town for a very good price. Dinner and breakfast are also awesome.

Review 23:The bed wasn't confortable. Room without AC, with a very noisy fan. Too much insects in the hotel.

Review 24:Friendly staff, we could pay in Euro. Old room but clean. Good and tasty breakfast & dinner.

Review 25:Sad we could only stay one day. Comfortable clean rooms in a nice setting. And a very, very attentive manager who fulfilled our needs before we were even aware of them... To be recommend!

Review 26:It is a bit out of the way from the temple ruins, but they do rent bicycles.

Review 27:The service of the staff was excellent. We had gotten sick and they we very nice in tending to our needs by bringing our food to our rooms.

Review 28:Pillows really hard and flat, very minor criticism

Review 29:The service here is amazing, they try so hard to make you welcome and happy. We arrived hot and tired, were given a beautiful fresh cold juice and bags taken to room. Trips were all organised, we just had to stumble down for breakfast and let them do the work.

Review 30:The room was not very nice. Lots of ants in the room, only a blanket on the bed which was far too hot so had to sleep with nothing on me (there was no sheet to sleep under)

Review 31:Very helpful owner and staff, you can rent bikes (very old) and the old city is closeby. Good dinner buffet and breakfast. Nice garden.

Review 32:It is a little bit out of town, but easy enough to cycle in to see the ruins, so not a problem in any way.

Review 33:Very friendly, good food, really helpful staff, good atmosphere, nice rooms. A great place to stay.

Review 34:The best breakfast you could hope for Bike ride away from the beautiful ruins Very friendly hosts Free wifi and cable tv in common area (at least) Amazing dinner served Very calm area

Review 35:Triple room was beautiful but double room was more basic feeling, with a damp mould patch on the wall, broken shower holder and air con that was difficult to adjust so the room was too cold at night. When I told the owner about the shower he was very apologetic and thanked me for informing him. I'm sure he would get it fixed as he was very obliging.

Review 36:Delicious food- superb curry and rice and excellent Sri Lankan breakfast with great hoppers. Friendly welcoming staff. Helped arrange us a taxi and national park trip. Nice outdoor / verandah type area to eat and relax. Wifi available here , but not in rooms.

Review 37:Nothing bad, great staff, we would stay again for sure!

Review 38:Our host upali was wonderful, a great sense of humour and could help arrange your needs. The curry buffets were the best we have had yet! Sri Lankan breakfast, western food on offer but we didn't want that. We got bikes for our ride to the ancient city (very hot). Met other travellers at dinner. Wifi worked Sri Lanka fine. AC worked well.

Review 39:- The head of the family likes to stand at your table watching you eat.

Review 40:Great food, good service, rooms are basic but fine, helped us arrange a safari and the have bikes for rent

Review 41:There is only internet in the public area.

Review 42:This is a quiet place off the main street and is also not far from the old city. The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast was more than basic.

Review 43:Not only the wifi there is poor, but also my own signal is 2G.

Review 44:the staffs here were so friendly with good service though it's a little bid slow, they answered our questions with patience and gave us good travel advice

Review 45:We had a couple of tree-frogs in the bathroom, but I preferred to have them rather the cans of chemicals which were brought by the owner and sprayed randomly all over the bathroom.

Review 46:Quiet peaceful location, complete with outdoor dining and a small garden with swings. Best if you have own transport.

Review 47:We regret we did not come back for lunch after visiting the old town of Polonnaruwa...

Review 48:Beautiful house with beautiful garden. Very nice people and delicious food ( one of the best breakfasts we had in Sri lanka with the best hoppers). Great value for money.

Review 49:There were mosquito net missing on windows. It would be much better if they have the net on windows, manly bathroom windows.

Review 50:It is a family business and the owner's daughter is super sweet with has great english. Breakfast was not included but we had it there and was delicious!

Review 51:We enjoyed staying at Seraya holiday resort. We felt very much at home and that's thanks to the friendly staff. The food was the best we had in Sri Lanka.

Review 52:Very small bathroom. Rather hard bed. No wifi in the room (only in common areas). Not enough plugs in the room (or not the right type) to charge Smart phones, etc.

Review 53:Quiet, with a little garden. Good breakfast. Clean room with A/C. Good location for Pollonaruwa.Very good value for money.

Review 54:Nothing!

Review 55:One of the best rooms we have had in Sri Lanka, good size and nice and bright with a balcony overlooking trees and birds. Staff were lovely and took good care of us. They wanted to make sure we weren't conned by a tuk tuk driver who sold us a tour and helped us out when the atms wouldnt give us cash because of the public holidays. Lovely breakfast on their terrace overlooking their pretty gardens and great food in the evening too. Also their driver who took us to the bus station made sure we got on the right bus. Free bikes to use too but it was too hot for us.

Review 56:The staff was friendly and helpful with recommendations, but never pressured us into buying tours through them. They called a lovely tuk tuk driver for us, Sugath. If you need a tuk tuk driver, ask the hotel for him

Review 57:Very good price, friendly and helpful staff. Delicious local food, we had breakfast and dinner and it was perfect. Room with balcony is nice and comfortable. Good wifi.

Review 58:Its a little far from the main old Polonnaruwa town and takes either a long walk or auto / bus journey and difficult to find

Review 59:The staff are excellent and very friendly and helpful indeed. The room is very clean and food is great. One of the staff even gave me a lift to the bus stop, which was most kind of him. The traditional Sri Lankan food was most delicious.

Review 60:From the moment we arrived to the moment we left 4 days later, we could not have wanted a better place to stay. This is a real home away from home and the owner and his family go out of their way to make sure you experience everything you wish to. The food is fantastic and very plentiful. Could not recommend this place highly enough.

Review 61:Nothing, but the rather rough 200yd track down to the hotel was very wet and slippery when we arrived. Their Tuk tuk still managed it.

Review 62:A real and unexpected haven - lovely setting, very accommodating staff, good food. And very good value. We wished we had stayed at least a second night to explore the area - other than just Polonnaruwa. We too got the take-away cake - great!

Review 63:There was nothing I didn't like.

Review 64:The host family makes you feel part of the family. Comfortable clean rooms, mosquito nets, warm water, nice quiet area.

Review 65:The place is nice to stay in whiles doing a lot of sightseeing but it's not maybe a place to hang around a lot at as there is no pool or a divine room. The road was a mud bath when we came but that is really more the rains fault then anything else!

Review 66:The family who runs it is very very sweet, they gave us lots of extra little treats and they were friendly and accommodating all the time. In the evening we had a really tasty traditional meal, rice and curry and the breakfast was ok (ALL the hotels have toast and egg as standard basic breakfast, so did this one, which gets terribly boring after a while, but they also served a smoothie which was nice). The room was pretty humid but had AC so it was ok, and mosquito net.

Review 67:you could hear the neighbours easily But again it was for a really good price

Review 68:The family was very kind to us and hospitable. The helped us perfectly with a bus trip to the next hotel. You can go on a bike to the famous temples for a small price. The food was delicious.

Review 69:Owner insisted it was cheapest to hire a van/minibus on our away journey (only two of us) - turned out he needed to transport a washing machine most of the way - felt like we were paying for his transport costs and for a slower journey! Bikes are not in good condition.

Review 70:Great home-cooked evening meals and breakfast. Attentive and helpful hosts. Slightly out of town from the Polonnaruwa ruins - but an easy cycle in. Bikes available to hire from the homestay (if not in the best of condition - mine only had one very low gear available).

Review 71:- Best staff, lovely owner, do everything to make you feel af home (even though I think they are generally very friendly in Sri Lanka, this exceeds all) - Excellent breakfast and dinner, very reasonable prices - When we arrived we were welcomed with tea and homemade coconut cake which was delicious

Review 72:the wifi is only available in restaurant /reception area

Review 73:the host made everything possible for us so we saw all we needed and even managed to confirm transport back to colombo - he was of great assistance

Review 74:Building looked a bit incomplete but did not affect our stay at all.

Review 75:I loved the family running the hotel. Very friendly and hospitable. They served very nice dinner and breakfast as well.

Review 76:One wall of the room and the entire ceiling has wet patches, not sure if it was fungus. They were extending the building upwards and explained that due to the recent rains, water has seeped into the roof and walls. We should have asked for a discount !

Review 77:We booked a triple room which was quite big and spacious with 3 single + 1 small bed. Clean toilet was a nice surprise. Their breakfast was plentiful and good if you don't mind the flies !

Review 78:The room, and bathroom were very clean with a lovely Little balcony, with air conditioning. The food was superb, amazing, tasty and the best we had in Sri Lanka!!

Review 79:The one thing can spoil everything!!! The tea at our breakfast was was prepared from bad water which had a terrible smell of chlorine. It was taken from city water tube, I think.

Review 80:Don't wanna complain, I know we were in Sri Lanka and a we paid a room for one night about 15 dollars, but still need to say a couple of thing; the shower got some problems, there were two, one dropped only cold water and one hot but with very low power, so it was a bit difficult to enjoy it...and, don't know if maybe we've been really unlucky, but the air conditioned was broken, not that we needed it, but they asked if we wanted it for additional 5 dollars, we told yes but the spitters never worked. Obviously they did not charge us it..so it was just to say, to help them improve a bit.

Review 81:Welcoming first of all, with teapot and very pleasent chat about our first day in Sri Lanka. Food was great, very typical and with fresh ingredients. The room was clean. The staff was really very polite and enjoyable. The location great, near Polonnarowa ruins, they gave us a map to get there.

Review 82:- There is small country road from the main road to the hotel(around 2 km) - The hotel is not completed: the third floor is not finished, but it applies only to the external aesthetic appearance

Review 83:- Very homely and family-run hotel, trying to help everyone, asked many times whether everyone is satisfied - we were given home-made cake when we were leaving - wonderful breakfast on veranda and delicious dinner at a good price - We slept ith maskit nets with the open windows - morning we woke up by singing of birds - Internet in the common area is good - Hotel is just 2 km from ancient sity, owner gives the map of the city and explains where to buy tickets and how to find the place

Review 84:We had a lovely stay Dec 22/23. The room was spacious and good for families. The courtyard for meals is quite nice. The hotel was very kind to our driver as well, making him feel welcome. Nice family-run hotel.

Review 85:Everything was good for us. But this is not trying to be a four or five star resort so if that's what you're after you'll need to look elsewhere.

Review 86:We enjoyed meeting the family members. They were happy, genuine, attentive and all had a good sense of humour. They cooked special meals for one of our group with specific dietary needs. Good value for money.

Review 87:+ the food was nice but was served cold in dinner and breakfast + toilet door didn't have a handle but was easy to operate + the shower wasn't strong enough + the fan made a fair amount of noise but it didn't affect our sleep in any way

Review 88:+ friendly and hospitable family + clean and spacious bedroom (triple) + mosquito nets + quiet and reclusive + I would recommend this place

Review 89:Freshly painted and spotless room and bathroom Welcoming area for eating and sitting Quiet leafy area near the lake Fantastic food Generous hospitality and being made to really feel like part of the family

Review 90:No wifi at rooms. Hope they can sort that out

Review 91:well, myself and couple friends visited Polonnaruwa for the first time (and yeah we are local sri lankans). This place is good for the money with friendly staff run as homestay. If you want to get close to a sri lankan family and how things goes in ancient cities area, this is the best way to do.

Review 92:It is a bit isolated, with no restaurants within easy walking distance. I stayed for three nights and the room was not cleaned or the bed made up in that time.

Review 93:This is a no-frills, budget hotel run by a very friendly and helpful family. It is made very pleasant by the staff and by the delicious food available at the hotel

Review 94:Nothing really to list here. If we had to be very picky and choose one thing, it is that one of our rented bikes derailed a few times during our visit of the temples so make sure to check it before leaving. Otherwise a great experience. Would go back and recommend to friends..

Review 95:Extremely nice, welcoming and genuinely caring owner and staff. We had to cancel our third night there due to change of plans which was not a problem. The owner also advised and helped us plan the remainder of our trip, thus saving us valuable time and money by using bus and train through picturesque hill country.

Review 96:Exactly what it said on the tin! This place is in a great location for both safari and the ruins. Staff could not have accommodated us more, really bent over backwards to make our stay enjoyable and the rice and curry was some of the best we had over our whole trip. Five stars!

Review 97:Nothing.

Review 98:This little hotel had the best service and the best food we encountered in Sri Lanka. Host, Ulapi, was friendly, helpful and generous. He even packed us homemade cake for our onward trip. The garden was beautiful.

Review 99:Wifi didn't work in the room, we couldn't get lunch when we arrived as there was no cook.

Review 100:Friendly, helpful owner, Good sri Lankan breakfast

Review 101:During the breakfast, there were too many flying insects. It was a bit annoying.

Review 102:The owner is very friendly. The welcome drinks are very nice! Clean bedroom, good shower, nice dinner and breakfast. For the price, it's a good place to stay.

Review 103:in the middle of nowhere

Review 104:very pleasant stay in a very cosy place with friendly familliar atmosphere delicious home-made cuisine, sri lankan/continental breakfast

Review 105:Not a queen/king bed but 2 single beds which couldnt be put together due to the 1person mosquito nets.

Review 106:Very friendly people, nice house, good breakfast and diner. Arranged a safari from here which was perfect.

Review 107:I actually haven't stayed at the hotel due to sudden changes. But Poornima has been absolute stare, she made changes hussle free and even arranged train ticket for me. Fabulous

Review 108:The hotel is located somewhat outside of the center, but as the city is not very attractive, this was not a problem. The ruins were approximately 5-10 minutes with the TukTuk.

Review 109:The staff was very nice and the food was great. Pollonnaruwa city is doesn´t have much option to go for a nice dinner, therefore this was a great advantage. The Hotel is owned by a local family who also lives there, they are very kind and helpful. The entire facility was very clean. Alltogether a good option for a one or two night´s stay.

Review 110:shower (one shower for cold water, one for hot - hot could use some more water); functionality: e.g. taking a shower means spilling water over the toilet including toilet paper

Review 111:Owner very friendly; Service very personal; typical delicious Sri Lankan breakfast; A/C and fan work very effective (room was very hot upon arrival) Quiet Location is suitable for a visit to Polonnaruwa; fair pricing; Rooms are rather basic; some items appear slightly 'do-it-yourself'; rooms are clean, but show signs of usage, could use a tune-up

Review 112:there was absolutely nothing to do for our 6 years old daughter

Review 113:great cooking for a fair prize large, clean rooms you can rent bikes to visit the old town

Review 114:Good food, clean rooms and nice owners. Was a good base to explore the surrounding area and the owners were helpful in arranging things. Overall - good value.

Review 115:We stayed in this hotel during our visit of Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Wi-fi is available in the common area. I recommend the hoppers for the breakfast and curd with honey for dinner. The staff is very friendly. Compared to other rooms we had during our journey the rooms etc. were above average.

Review 116:Try to get an A/C room.

Review 117:The onwer is a genuine, warm-hearted person. He knows what's in the guests' best interest and tries to help them. So did his staff. The home style dinner buffet was quite nice too! Location very convenient. If you come by bus, you can ask the driver to drop you nearby the hotel.

Review 118:THE NICEST people we met in sri lanka, so helpful and friendly. The curry cooked by the owners wife was the best curry we've had in sri lanka. We highly recommend this place

Review 119:The hosts were fantastic, nothing was too much and they consistently went that extra mile to make your stay a special one. The food was amazing too. Highly recommended if you're looking for an authentic Sri Lanka experience

Review 120:Wifi was very poor

Review 121:VERY basic room - not even a bedside lamp.

Review 122:very nice breakfast - rice pancakes -very much like crepes and a delicious fresh juice

Review 123:Friendly folk running this family business. Spotless rooms and great value for money. Hoppers for breakfast were delicious!

Review 124:none

Review 125:personal attension all round very helpful

Review 126:The staff is super nice and kind. Helped us a lot to continue our travel.

Review 127:the staff is very nice, and they help us fix the facilities in the room
