Reviews for Hakuba Gondola Hotel
Review 1:Only stayed for one night. Was really just a place to sleep for me. Facilities were fine for a backpackers. No lockers for your gear but it's Japan so no real need to worry.
Review 2:Don't let the cost fool you: this is definitely a hostel not a hotel. If you are looking for a young party scene this is your place. If you are looking for a quiet night's sleep look elsewhere. We had people yelling and running up and down the hallway throughout the night. Bring your own towel!
Review 3:Location is outstanding - only a few minute walk from the Gondola. Staff was efficient and the room was clean.
Review 4:The rooms were small. WiFi wasn't great. Tiny bathroom.
Review 5:Breakfast was included! There was a coin laundry available to wash our smelly snow clothes. The location is outstanding, just at the base of the gondola. The staff are friendly, and it helped us that they were mostly all Aussies!
Review 6:Photos on website of onsen were taken somewhere else. Onsen was 'out of service' also. Breakfast was just cereal and canned fruit. Won't be coming back.
Review 7:The snow.
Review 8:Should not complain for the price. But there are not toilets on every floor (pain if you need a tinkle in the night). The bar reeks of disenfectant, which is unpleasant. But for a bed for the night, it is fine.
Review 9:The location. This is the next best thing to sleeping inside the gondola. Ideal for a weekend break to maximize time on the snow at Happo. I have not found a cheaper place in Hakuba (and I stay here often).
Review 10:Advertised as ski in & ski out but it wasn't really. We still had to walk which was a pain with young kids & skis. The onsen was very old & dirty. Didn't even get in. Staff weren't overly friendly. Had to sit in reception for wifi.
Review 11:Room was clean. Breakfast was basic but filling. Good location for restaurants.
Review 12:Having to leave and go back to work. Could not fault this accomadation
Review 13:This is a very comfy, stylish and very nice place to stay in cortina. So close to the ski field literally board to your front door, has amazing views of the mountain. The owner/host Jason was incredible and went out if his way and made sure that we had everyting we needed to make our stay the best it could be. I do alot of travelling and stay at many different motels/hotels and could honestly say that this was a great place to stay with great service.
Review 14:Very overpriced for the cramped rooms and basic facilities available. Smallest bathroom ever! The locker/ drying room dried nothing & entire hotel smelled terrible. Reception closed at odd times & very slow to replace any breakfast item that ran out. Need more staff.
Review 15:The location is the only redeeming feature of this hotel, but it is not ski in/ski out.
Review 16:Only bad thing was that the beds were hard and the one I chose (bottom bunk) was so uncomfortable it was almost better to sleep on the floor
Review 17:Great location first up. Breakfast every morning was very handy. Facilities were great and the bar was so chilled with live music at night some nights and good cheap drinks. Was able to hire gear at a great rate from the ski shop attached. Staff were all pretty nice and helpful too. Stayed in a 5bed room with private bathroom (big enough) was ideal for my group. Room was warm with a heater you could adjust. Obviously more western hostel with a touch of japanese culture. Would stay again and recommend.
Review 18:We arrived on a Saturday at 12:30pm. The ski hire shop was not open and we were told that it would not be open until 4pm. That meant we lost a half day of skiing. Additionally, we were not given any paperwork to fill in for the ski hire (booked online) and when the hire shop opened at 4, the friendly guy told us that we needed to get the paperwork from the front desk. So we went back to collect the paperwork and were informed that as we paid after hours with a credit card (online through the website) that we would need to pay the whole sum in cash as the offices were closed when our request went through and the office-in Australia-didn't open again until Monday. After a long discussion, it was agreed that we leave a ¥20,000 or $200 cash deposit just in case the credit card didn't go through on Monday (even though the same credit card was used to book the hotel). So we ended up in a long back and forth discussion in regard to this, and then we were given the paperwork-all in all another hour and a half wasted. The staff were clearly a skeleton crew however, given that this is the busiest time of the ski season, for the ski shop to be closed on a Saturday is simply not good enough. The same happened when we were leaving, we had to ask them to open the shop so that we could return our ski's. Spend a little more on staff and make it more accessible to guests.
Review 19:Location was good. Family room was good.
Review 20:Breakfast was a bit poor. The room was a little cold (no thermostat), and our toilet was blocked and had no hot water on the second day. But as the other reviews state, this is a place to stay and nothing more, and ideal if you want to be on the first gondola.
Review 21:Location. No walking in ski boots to the gondola. The room was spacious and quiet and spotlessly clean. The bar was busy.
Review 22:Terrible value for money. The hotel is a very large, shabby, run down youth hostel. Showers are not new or clean. Towels cost 200 yen, which is ridiculous since our room was 12,000 yen for two people. Many drunk college students partying in the halls until late at night. Could hear music from the bar in our room, until late at night. Breakfast was white bread and cheap cereal. All of these things would be fine if the hotel was priced accordingly, but it was priced like a much better hotel. Nearly $110 US dollars (at current rate) for what is a cheap, rundown youth hostel. There are much better accomodations in Hakuba.
Review 23:The location is the only thing good about this hotel.
Review 24:My wife broke her leg skiing on our first day at the hotel. The owners were amazing in talking to Hospitals, cab firms and general problems we had. Sad holiday,, but they were amazing!
Review 25:On your site i paid for a large family room, when i arrived i recived a double room with a bunk bed stuffed in it - i had less room then last time when i had a double room - and paid $500 extra for it - i want the difference of money back
Review 26:Staff were very helpful and friendly
Review 27:If you want to pay top hotel dollars for what is essentially a crowded, shabby rundown youth hostel this is your place. Not clean, very worn rooms, "breakfast" was white bread and cheap cereal, and their was no cancellation policy (clearly stated on website but the reason they didn't allow cancellations was apparent after we viewed the room.) All of this would be fine if the room was priced accordingly, but it was priced like a nice hotel, as opposed to the rundown youth hostel it is. 200 yen for a towel, when we are paying 12,000 yen per night for a room for two?! I have lived in Japan for 5 years, and travel extensively, this was the single worst hotel experience I've had, and the worst value for the money. This is also the only negative review I have written on this website, but I felt compelled, this hotel is a total ripoff.
Review 28:The location is good, which is the only good thing about this Hotel.
Review 29:Unfortunately for us, after arriving from the airport at 3am in the morning, our key was not left out for us. This was disappointing as I called the hotel prior to this and was guaranteed this would be done. Thankfully the manager helped us out and we finally got to bed.
Review 30:Location is excellent.
Review 31:The so called "hotel" was so filthy! The carpet stunk with stains everywhere, the wallpaper was falling off and had dirty stains on it in the halls and the rooms. The beds were like sleeping on concrete and the sheets were thin and dirty! The restuarant was like a school cafeteria you even had to rinse your own dishes once you were done! The wifi only works in the bar and the lobby not in your room and you have to pay for it! It is in desperate need of a major makeover! Terribly run down "hotel" would never recommend this place!
Review 32:The location and the bar were the only good things about this hotel
Review 33:- only one staff member was actually helpful - stupid refund policy - 'dry room' was not heated some night and locker system is a joke - noisey school groups in wifi areas - limited wifi access points
Review 34:Easy access to happo-1 mountain Gondola, which is good but it's not the best resort in the Hakuba area
Review 35:Cheap pillows, hard beds, bright lights shining through windows atnight, incredibly expensive given the very basic conditions, no tv inroom, very basic breakfast that often ran out of dishes and food, andthey charge you for everything. Extra towel...200 Yen. Wifi....1000 Yen.Hairdryer, adapter, etc...all charged.
Review 36:Staff, location, heat and wifi
Review 37:Location
Review 38:The relaxed atmosphere , location and price
Review 39:the wifi access could be a little better
Review 40:good location, close to everything you need, super close to the gondola
Review 41:Thank u for helping when I need any assistances. Everyone is kind and polite in the hotel. I had a great time there.
Review 42:Lovely hosts! Perfect location, 3 mn walk from the Gondola. You can't go wrong with that.....
Review 43:too many drunks coming back from bar
Review 44:staff were awesome, very helpful
Review 45:Drying room gets very full
Review 46:Great place to stay and snow board
Review 47:No wifi connection in the room (wifi isn't free). 2 days without Heater!!!
Review 48:Good location in the station. The room was big.
Review 49:The smallest rooms ever. Impossible for two people to share and the bathroom I could not even put clothes on in.
Review 50:Good location in Happi
Review 51:Some of the staff were rude. Place was not well kept. Charged us more than stated on website.
Review 52:Breakfast was a disappointment and a waste of time. Rooms pretty basic.
Review 53:Location, friendly vibe, easy place to relax and recharge for more skiing.
Review 54:No free wifi.
Review 55:Its right next to the Gondola. Bar serves decent food.
Review 56:2 min walk to the gondola and lifts. Free wifi and great bar.
Review 57:Great time!! Awesome people!!
Review 58:wi-fi is available in rooms.
Review 59:The personel is kind and easy to deal with, the hotel is very close to the main ski lift, it is clean and comfortable, continental breakfast is of good quality.
Review 60:No ATM for a good 15-20 min walk. (Info centre/happo bus station) so bring cash or you're stuck! Locker system is f'd it's first in best dressed and there's not enough.
Review 61:I really loved the location. 40m from gondola and a few really good places to eat. Hotel bar next door is a great way to wind down! Staff very helpful! Snow.. Lots of pow.
Review 62:Being woken every night due to drunks running riot in the hallways, or the sound of people throwing up throughout the place. Toilets were disgusting, spew in them every day of my stay.
Review 63:Good location if wanting to go to Happo One.
Review 64:I would not recommend this hostel. The service was a little cool, and my roommate was refused a refund for her room even after having to return home early with a broken shoulder. The hostel is situated in a brilliant location, across the road from the Happo Gondola, but given the number of accomodation option in Hakuba I was not at all impressed.
Review 65:No Transfers given, reception staff not helpful. More for backpackers and young who liked a good time.
Review 66:Value for money, includes breakfast. Rooms were reasonable size.
Review 67:Just about everything else. The hotel was run down and needed a lot doing to it. There was a gastro outbreak whilst we were there - heaps of people went crook with the only link between them being that they stayed in the same place. There was no drying room - just some lockers in a very small heated area. I could go on and on but the reality is you get what you pay for and at least the staff tried to make up for the problems with the hotel.
Review 68:The location and the staff who were very helpful.
Review 69:The room amenities were minimal. There was no refridgerator, safe, tea pot. Wifi was supposed to be free, but there was a charge and it only worked in the common areas, not the room.
Review 70:The location was perfect.
Review 71:Be prepared if your staying over a weekend, tends not to be a family stay destination.
Review 72:Great location, easy walking distance to the gondola and has its own bar.
Review 73:Excellent location, clean and comfortable room, excellent food in the hotel restaurant, reasonable price. It's more a hostel-like place for young than a real hotel.
Review 74:Hotel layout is a bit difficult to find facilities, hard to access laundry (always full), no temperature control in rooms, noisy, no wifi / internet in rooms only in public places. Ski rental only open 7.30am-10, 4pm-7pm.
Review 75:Guest lounge was good, staff generally helpful, location is great to Happo One.
Review 76:The pillows were very uncomfortable and the shower was tiny!
Review 77:The location was great and the staff was all very friendly. Our room was small, but there was a good amount of storage and it was clean. I highly recommend the breakfast in the bar - we ate there every morning. There isn't parking on site, but we were able to park in the lot next to the hotel for 500 yen per day.
Review 78:Common room was just that, a common room with a few lounges and was very average. It was here and only in 2 other places that you could get the wifi which meant to get your internet fix, you had to either share a smelly room with a crowd of people, hover in the front reception area and freeze as everyone came through the front doors or be anti-social in the bar.
Review 79:The location is excellent - you are literally opposite the gondola and about 3 properties from the ticketing office. Staff were knowledgeable and their recommendations for restaurants, etc were great. Shame they only ever had 1 person on at a time so any questions or bookings required often took over 15mins before you were attended to.
Review 80:good location for skiing and reasonable price. staffs are helpful.
Review 81:Nothing
Review 82:Position
Review 83:being ill with virus in hotel
Review 84:location
Review 85:All five of us at various stages of our 14 night stay were attacked by "the bug"
Review 86:Proximity to Happo One Gondola
Review 87:The beds were rock hard and the pillows were really uncomfortable!
Review 88:The location, bar, breakfast being included, atmosphere...it was all great!
Review 89:People parting through the corridors all night. Rampid gastro bug that took us out for a day or so (& everyone else).
Review 90:Postion
Review 91:No whole meal breads at breakfast
Review 92:Wifi only available in certain places
Review 93:Proximity to the gondola
Review 94:Very central to everything. Staff were very friendly.
Review 95:The staff are amazing they are helpful and hospitable. Great bar and food. The steaks are a hit on the mountain.
Review 96:Booking.com says the Gondola Hotel accepts credit cards. They do not. Full of Aussies.
Review 97:Next to gondola.
