Reviews for Sonesta Posadas del Inca Yucay

Review 1:The reception charged us in their local currency instead of U.S. dollars. The credit card statement showed a slight increase of the original booking cost. After an initial enquiry, we discovered the discrepancy was due to the exchange rate which were applied on different days (at checkout and when the statement was posted). It is important to check whether the reception staff charge in local currency or foreign currency. Otherwise, it is more complicated to reconcile the original booking cost with the credit card statement. The different exchange rates add extra cost to the reservation.

Review 2:The ambience and food is great. The scenery is lovely. There is a wide selection for the buffet breakfast.

Review 3:Wonderful location and setting amidst beautiful tranquil valley. Very quiet. English speaking Staff very helpful. Nice Andean flute music live in the evenings.

Review 4:Hot water intermittent, rooms were noisy. Staff geared toward tours, not inndependent travelers Was surprised by a $45 extra per day charge on checking out due to confusion on bookings web site

Review 5:Beautiful setting, Great location to see Sacred Valley

Review 6:A very nice area Yucay, it is very peaceful and convenient for the Sacred Vally exploration. there are not that much to do in the evening so it was nice that the hotel had a show with andean music in the lobby in the evening, they have a nice bar and a coffee shop on ther property so people just sit relax and enjoy the show and have a drink

Review 7:Everything about this place. It is a beautiful hotel and surroundings. The chapel, the music, the environment, the people. Nothing else but GREAT! It is our second trip to Machu Picchu and both times we stayed at this beautiful, relaxing and peaceful hotel. We will come back again and again.

Review 8:1) No tea & coffee making facilities in room 2) No information given about tea & coffee room service 3) Standard of breakfast poor for type of hotel 4) Wooden walkways outside rooms very noisy

Review 9:Stunning gardens, beautiful hotel & very comfortable rooms

Review 10:My only comment would be that rooms are a little dark but given all the pros of this hotel, this small detail was not important for us.

Review 11:The hotel is beautiful and the staff is excellent!!! It was a special occasion (my parents’ 40th anniversary) and they make sure they felt special with little details (chocolates, flowers, free desert, etc). I totally recommend it!!!

Review 12:As with most hotels in Peru in their winter, there is no heat except for a little portable heater and the room was cold at night.

Review 13:The property is beautifully landscaped and the structure is charming.

Review 14:Nothing . Everything was just perfect

Review 15:Johana and Rosalia ( reception) were excellent. Very helpful indeed . The staff was very positive . Food was excellent. And the rooms were spacious and comfortable . The live music in the lobby area superb , a great comfortable and relaxing place ... Really feeling of hiome away from hisme.

Review 16:Food and restaurant staff were really disappointing. The menu choice is really standard and the food feel like was prepared hours in advance (it is a very large hotel); compare with many other places in Perú our expectation were considerably higher. Disappointing, especially if planning to stay more that one night with no alternatives at walking distance.

Review 17:Charming and beautiful colonial style building, with nice and intimate spot to relax. Staff at the reception was really nice and kind.

Review 18:Because it was a convent all rooms look inwards except 120 so rather dark and no mountain view. I think there are better places to stay in Sacred Valley frankly

Review 19:Garden, early breakfast

Review 20:The quality of dinner (chef) for a highly grated hotel was rather disappointing (we went 2 nights).

Review 21:We'd liked to style of the hotel and how it fits into the landscape and the valley. Very comfortable rooms, nice breakfast and opportunity to have light meals at the cafeteria. Well-groomed garden and 'outdoor-beds' to relax. Authum location within the valley - friendly people of Urumbamba greeting us when walking through the streets. Free coca tea and leaves to adjust to the heights. The reception recommed a private tour guide to us (OSCAR). We had an authum day with him vsiting the historic sites of Pisac, Moray, Ollantaytambo and Maras. Highly recommeded as you stay away from the crowds of the usual bus tours. Stunning views, one highlight following the other...

Review 22:Nothing specific to the property.

Review 23:The open / back to nature feel of the place. Rooms were very spacious and comfortable. Friendly staff .. We left our luggage there a day before we had a booking, on the way to machu pichu. Excellent breakfast .. The best we had in a week in Peru. The restaurant was very good and adapted to what we needed ( vegetarian)

Review 24:Bathrooms could be more modern. The shower head in our room was of pretty poor condition. One of the hotel's big pluses, namely it's rustic style, can also be seen as a negative as noise is very easily transmitted from one room to the other via the wood panel floors. As the main attraction is Machu Picchu and most guests try to catch the 6.50am train from Urubamba, getting any sleep after about 5am is hard. However, I hope this doesn't sound too negative, as the hotel is truly worth experiencing.

Review 25:I may be mistaken but the layout and character of the hotel reminds one of a country estate that has been renovated with a lot of attention to detail. The garden areas are truly beautiful. The rooms are kept in-style and have a very rustic feel.

Review 26:Shower was not clean and had poor temperature control. Woman at front desk was not friendly.

Review 27:Beautiful hotel, great food, friendly staff, very accommodating

Review 28:We booked for 4 nights. On Saturday there was a wedding that took place 20 meters from our room. It started at 1PM and ended at 9PM. During that time there was a very loud music and we couldn’t rest in the room. When i called the reception they offered me another room to rest in but i didn’t want to move. I think is rood that the hotel doesn’t inform his guest in advance that there is a weeding that is going to take place there- in that case the guest can decide wheatear they would like to reserve a room or not. By hiding it from the guests the hotel deceived its guests. It is a pity since in all other aspects the hotel was very good. For me it had spoiled all my vacation the

Review 29:The hotel is very nice ,clean, nice rooms and kind staff. It is located in a very nice place and is very unique. The restaurant is very good as well as breakfast buffet. The rooms are comfterbal and clean

Review 30:I would say nothing, but there were some hairs in the bath tub which were gross!

Review 31:The rooms and hotel are beautiful Good shower Great lunch buffet Nice restaurant Good breakfast spread Friendly staff Lovely slice of cake, and a welcome display from the hotel to celebrate our honeymoon in our room :)

Review 32:Location is a little out of the way, there is very little within walking distance

Review 33:Great room spacious and very clean with a comfortable bed and ample heat and hot water. Excellent breakfast, and nice happy hour with entertainment in the lobby. I visited in Aug. which is the dry season. not reccomended! The sacred Valley was full of smoke from farmers burning grasses. In several places the fires had gotten out of control, and the entire mountain was burning. There is no system for fighting fires in the valley, and they are just allowed to burn out of control. This hotel was well equipped for the problem. They provided an oxygen tank when the smoke caused my bronchial tubes to close up. This is a hotel which gets lots of tour buses for meals and for stays. Less charm than other facilities, but very comfortable and with all modern amenities.

Review 34:First floor room by restaurant was poorly insulated from noise outside and above, woke up to noise from room above as there is no carpeting on upper room or insulation between levels thus making a second-floor booking mandatory for return visit to ensure fewer disturbences, breakfast was limited, dinner at hotel restaurant made me sick following morning (lasagna), bathroom was clean at first appearance then while in the shower huge chunks of hair floated in clogged drain, trash in bathroom didn't have cover which is unsanitary given one cannot flush used toilet paper in South America, not within walking distance from town. Despite issues would return but in different room both fuether from restaurant and on second floor.

Review 35:Beautiful grounds, nice staff, rooms and buildings were historic (looking) and tastefully appointed, excellent lunch buffet (at added cost of ~60 sol), parking, wifi (though painfully slow but in room), bed was fair but pillows were nice.

Review 36:Is good as a stop-over to other locations, but not much to do closer by...

Review 37:Great space, nice restaurant for breakfast (great yogurt and breads). Beautiful scenery and gardens with lamas around and plenty of herbs. Clean rooms, big beds, quiet and comfortable!

Review 38:The common areas and rooms need significantly more heating due to the coldness of the area and the layout of the hotel. We only ate at the hotel one evening but the dinner did not seem fresh/recently made; we recommend they look into ways to enhance the flavor and 'freshness' of the food. Also, as other reviews have noted, we recommend the hotel look at revamping the locks to the doors as it's not sustainable in this day and age.

Review 39:Lovely setting with view to the garden and mountains. The space is very open and the rooms have enough space. The breakfast was very nice and comprehensive, particularly with prepared to order eggs. The staff helped us arrange transport at the last minute due to another pre-arranged transport provider canceling at the last minute. Within 10 minutes of phoning the hotel, someone met me at the airport and within another 20 minutes, we were en route to the hotel. The staff helped us arrange a taxi tour of the sacred valley and Cusco at the last minute which was much appreciated, in addition, to connecting us to other affordable sources of transport around the sacred valley with reasonable rates. Lastly, the hotel also helped us do our laundry at the last minute (late night) and had it ready for us the next day due to luggage arrival issues.

Review 40:A beautiful property with beautiful gardens and private places to sit and soak in the surrounding environment. A place you can look forward to going back to at the end of a busy day of sight seeing. I like the fact that the rooms have a mix of some old and new. It maintains some of the feel and history of the convent.

Review 41:It doesnt have a spa

Review 42:Everything

Review 43:The ambient, set up, and catering

Review 44:Location of the property and beautiful flowers and good food.

Review 52:Nice buildings Good position

Review 53:The staff was excellent. They couldn't do enough for us. Loved the breakfast.....great omelets.

Review 54:Architecture of the hotel is in harmony with the surrounding nature. Hot thermal pools directly on the property are excellent.

Review 55:the sacred valley is really nice, the hotel has a great atmosphere because it is located in a colonial monastary, the staff is friendly and helpful

Review 56:The rural aspect of the Hotel with great comfort.

Review 57:everything was perfect!

Review 58:Special congratulations to the staff that made us a very warm stay. Thanks to Rosalia in the front office as well her other colleagues.

Review 60:Beautiful and peacefull surroundings

Review 61:A little noisey

Review 62:Location was beautiful . Lots of hot water was appreciated . There was a wedding taking place and which was wonderful to see.

Review 63:the property, the staff, the rooms, happy hour

Review 64:Location

Review 65:Everything is perfect except location. At night coming to otel can be a problem. But its near to machupichu.

Review 66:Gardens and surroundings.

Review 67:The location is a little off the popular spot, nothing really around there so you can't really go outside. But the hotel is beautiful and has everything inside.

Review 68:Beautiful hotel, It's got great views of the mountains. Very nice and professional staff.

Review 69:Can not think of anything I did not like

Review 70:It was beautiful, and the food was delicious. The lunch buffet was excellent! There were beautiful flower everywhere!

Review 71:Nothing, it was the best hotel of our 5 week trip with our 2 and 4 year old children.

Review 72:We loved the beautiful grounds, the fantastic staff and the delicious Peruvian food.

Review 73:Perhaps a little more help with organising a private tour around the area of the Sacred Valley.

Review 74:Beautiful gardens awash in a profusion of flowers in a lovely secluded complex. Food excellent and helpful staff.

Review 75:we were ina first floor, there was a second floor, the people that stayed on the second floor walked on the wood floor for a couple of hours starting at 6 am, we were awaken by them! I did not like that maybe they can put some carpets and warn clients to be considered to the first floor clients?

Review 76:beatiful building, no noise, they use the old convent in a very clever way friendly staff

Review 77:Location is fine, but not really close to anything. Small town, but it is a great place to stay

Review 78:Amazing location - can't believe how beautiful and awesome this place is. Wonderful staff, clean and comfortable rooms, great service when needed, and great food selections. Great value, great staff, beautiful gardens and buildings.

Review 79:The computers in the lobby have some sort of virus that redirects you to the home screen every few seconds, which made it impossible to use.

Review 80:I love, love, love this hotel. It's by far the best place I've ever stayed at, and I've stayed at 4 and 5 star rated places, but none hold a candle to the charm of this place. If I ever go to Peru again, I would make it a point to stay here. Everything was excellent from the staff who arranged all our transportation and restaurant reservations for our large party of 11 to the free breakfast and free coca tea in the lobby that's available 24/7. This place is 1 hr 20 minutes away from Cusco, but only a 20 minute cab ride from the Ollanta train station. I am so glad we decided to stay in Yucay/Urubamba because after trekking Machu Picchu (MP) all day, I was glad we didn't have to go all the way back to Cusco. The hotel also arranged our pickup/dropoff at the train station to go to MP the night before. Our large group couldn't all get on the same return train from MP, but the hotel arranged to have 3 separate pickups for us. Ferdinando who was also our tour guide for an all day tour arranged by the hotel the day before our MP trek, was there to greet us at the train station after our day at MP. It was such a relief to see a familiar face at the train station after an exhausting day at Machu Picchu. We felt like we were being greeted by family--thank you Ferdinando and Sonesta! You guys are awesome!

Review 81:We did not like the method for locking the suite doors. Although we always felt safe, the method of locking the suite entrance door was based on an ancient door locking method.

Review 82:We loved the atmosphere and the breakfast was very good.

Review 83:The showers should be updated to maintain the modern look of the bathroom/room.

Review 84:Gorgeous property. Attentive staff, safe, comfortable and incredibly peaceful.

Review 85:The location, no other restaurants around the place, nothing else to in Yucay in the evenings

Review 86:The setting, quiet and peaceful. The staff were very helpful.

Review 87:Beautiful gardens and decor, lots of historical character, clean and comfortable, nice rooms and bathrooms, friendly and helpful staff. We loved the alpacas and the small market inside the hotel.

Review 88:-Competency of staff at checking and out -Noise between rooms, particularly those at lower lever -Extremely slow wi-fi -Worn out bathrooms

Review 89:Location and overall nice facilities and public areas

Review 90:Prices for food and especially beverages. A cheap local wine costs 25usd and a simple Chilean wine 45 usd plus. For a high end French wine ina first world country you pay less!! They should revise their pricepolicy on F&B urgently.

Review 91:Beautiful hotel in a great location with very pleasant ambience. Roomsare huge and nicely decorated. Hotel blends in with nature and Spanishcolonial architecture of the region unlike the boring and uncozy Tambode Inca down the road with their outrages prices and city allure Chosethis one instead!

Review 92:Shower was awful, didn't stay one consistent temperature. There was no free water in the room. The food at the lunch buffet was overpriced and cold.

Review 93:Beautiful location. Well kept gardens. Good range of facilities.

Review 94:Taxi pickup from the airport was too expensive, and it took a few daysto get an email response.

Review 95:I loved the food. The service was excellent. The environment was verypeaceful and the property was gourgeous.

Review 96:Restaurant really expensive, and portions are not over-sized for the price.

Review 97:The friendliness of the staff, the location, the peace and quiet, and generally all the services. We want to go back again some day!

Review 98:Restaurant food was significantly overpriced and the location was farfrom any other restaurants. Staff was the least helpful of all theplaces we stayed in South America.

Review 99:The resort was beautiful - wonderful landscaping. A very restfulenvironment.

Review 100:The grounds and gardens were delightful and we enjoyed just relaxing at the lodge. The restaurant was convenient and the buffet breakfast with our stay offered a large variety of items. The entertainment in the lobby in the evening was also wonderful - Peruvian flute player.

Review 104:Overpriced

Review 105:Food

Review 106:restaurant food quality could improve and service provided by waitstaff.

Review 107:Cafe, garden, warm, big beds, clean room

Review 108:The food is not good, check-in took really long and the rooms and bathrooms need maintanance.

Review 109:The grounds of the hotel are beautiful
