Reviews for Hakuba Highland Hotel
Review 1:Downside of location when you go out at night you need to get taxi home, breakfast is mostly japanese (not much western style) but this is because most guests were japanese :)
Review 2:Location is away from the slopes but they offer shuttle buses to all slopes and out to dinner areas at night and there is an awesome view from breakfast area because it is kind of on a hill, pretty close to station, large and spacious rooms, heating works well
Review 3:A bit noisy at times (we had a room near the dinner hall). Dinner was great, but hotel a little far from town for looking for other options.
Review 4:Great staff. Clean functional rooms. Onsen with great view. Extensive dinner & breakfast buffets.
Review 5:Nothing
Review 6:I am a returning guest of hakuba hotel. I really enjoy the open air onsen and english speaking and non-english speaking staffs who took care of us during our stay.
Review 7:Limited changes for everyday breakfast. No 明太子 in buffet breakfast.
Review 8:Staff is very helpful on checking ski resort lift opening status. Environmental friendly as coupons given to guest if no room cleaning on all or some days of stay.
Review 9:Simple facilities but anyway sufficient for skiers.
Review 10:nice view facing the mountains, good outdoor Onsen, although indoor part a bit small. Free parking.
Review 11:Location a bit inconvenient to town. Our rooms, being booked at a lower price, overlooked the car park.
Review 12:Friendly,helpful staff, great onsen, delicious buffet meals were excellent value. Free station transfers. Fantastic view from common areas and rooms on mountain side.
Review 13:None
Review 14:The hotel staff were most friendly and helpful and the package most reasonable. I know Hakuba from winter (skiing) but was very happy to stay there in the summer. Most recommendable (but it is very Japanese which was not problem for me since I live in Japan, but could be for foreigners not familiar with Japan).
Review 15:We went to snow board and this hotel is on the other side of town, they only had a few buses in the morning to the lifts and certain times in the arvo to return. So we had to catch a lot of taxis, there is no restaurants or anything in walking distance, it's just the hotel in the hill. We ended up changing our hotel to be right in town near the ski lifts so we could walk everywere
Review 16:It's was a beautiful hotel, amazing views, great buffet breakfast
Review 17:Its quicker to list the good tgings about this hotel: 1) the view of the valley. Everything else isnt worth mentioning. We wouldnt recommend this hotel. Beds are rock hard and single. Bathroom is similar to that on a plane. Interior is outdated.
Review 18:Hakuba is great, however there was nothing great about the old hotel apart from the view over the valley
Review 19:The free shuttle provided by the hotel to and fro the train station. Hotel has a excellent view of the mountains. The special price for the dinner buffet at the hotel for the hotel guests is definitely good value for money.
Review 20:The guy at the desk did not talk very much english. However with help from his colleague they managed to answer all our questions about the ski area, rental equipment and transportation (back).
Review 21:Although the pick up service in the evening was already finished, they still picked us up luckely and stopped at the supermarket since dinner was also finished.
Review 22:A little far from everything. If you don't have a car, you must depend on their free shuttle services to get to to the ski resorts and bus stations.
Review 23:Public bath, the view, the food was pretty good, get the all inclusive meal package, it's definitely worth it.
Review 24:Almost nothing except that the breakfast and dinner could be better if there is a little more varieties.
Review 25:Outdoor onsen with mountain view after full day on the slopes. Value for money breakfast and dinner. Free shuttle buses to slopes.
Review 26:- Hard mattresses but it wasn't an issue
Review 27:Staff were very helpful although they spoke very little English. When wegot off the bus at Happo One from Shijuku we got the Happo One place toring the hotel to send a shuttle bus to come pick us up. The bus wasthere within 5 minutes so we were quite impressed. The hotel is up on a hill so it isn't ideal if you want to eat in town however it didn't bother us at all because we really enjoyed the dinner and breakfast buffet. We were there to ski so by 5pm we were too tired to leave our room so if you're in Hakuba to ski this hotel is perfect as the shuttle buses that take you to various ski resorts are very prompt and reliable. Service was incredible, all staff were beautiful, polite and they went above and beyond for us. We really enjoyed it because there weren't many foreigners at this hotel (manly local Japanese skiers, very popular for asian skiers for some reason) so in that aspect it was nice as relaxing and it felt less touristy. The bed was a bit hard but it didn't bother us too much. Onsen was AMAZING! One of the best onsens I've been too. They are exceptional especially after a long and hard day falling up and down on the snow! I would really recommend this hotel. I would stay here again.
Review 28:Location is a bit far from the busy area, so transport is a bit of a problem especially when you need to go out late at night.
Review 29:The Onsen is not very big but it has an open area that has a very nice view of the snow. Breakfast has a lot of varieties and the window has a picture perfect view of the city of Hakuba.
Review 30:Room was bit outdated and toilet was like from the train or ship.
Review 31:Bed was ok and room was cleaned up daily. Great breakfast and buffet dinner with variable assortiments. Onsen with spectacular view to the mountains!
Review 32:The location is a bit far from all the restaurants. Also the onsen is close for cleaning from 9:30am-5pm which is quite long hours.
Review 33:The staffs are very helpful and polite. They will do the extra miles for you. They offer to pick you up and drop you off from Hakuba station. They even dropped us to our dinner location when we asked them to help booking a taxi but then they said if we wanted to go around that time, they could drop us off because they didn't have to pick any more guest up at the station. The outdoor onsen has an amazing view of Japan Alps - really love this one (although the only morning I went, there was a snow shower and I couldn't see clearly!)
Review 34:The hotel should use only experienced drivers - we had a nerve-wrecking experience when a driver nearly missed a turn and did a last-minute sharp turn. He also took a corner too early. These happened on roads with thick snow cover.
Review 35:We liked our mountain-view room from which we could take very lovely photographs. The dinners were value for money. The hotel provides a free shuttle service to the ski resorts.
Review 36:No problems at all.
Review 37:The hotel staff were brilliant in all respects. They spoke good English, were extremely helpful and accommodating. Though the location is some distance from the ski-slopes, they provided a great service when the regular shuttle-buses were unable to match our needs. Indoor and outdoor onsen looking across to the snowy mountains - brilliant!
Review 38:The hotel is situated outside of any of the ski resorts. With the result that you do not experience the holiday resort feeling. However this might suit older couples. The bed was terribly uncomfortable!
Review 39:We liked the onsen. We were half board and buffet style meals were good. In general we enjoyed our stay. The friendly staff spoke English to us!
Review 40:A bit tired .. Needs a revamp .. But then they will charge more ..
Review 41:The view was great .. Onsen good .. Food well priced but basic .. Bus service to ski fields easy to use and punctual.. Overall a 8
Review 42:I was hoping if only that the shop could have more foodstuffs as the nearest convenient store is quite a distance.
Review 43:I love the fact that the view from my hotel room was splendid! The staffs were super awesome and friendly and helpful. They really helped me to find ways on how I was able to go to my destinations. The shuttle service was punctual. Breakfast was good with varieties of food served. I will definitely come again...soon!
Review 44:Nothing.
Review 45:Fantastic location. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Strongly suggest the half board option as the food was amazing. Awe inspiring mountain views from the onsen.
Review 46:The rooms could do with an update, but didn't spoil my stay.
Review 47:Great onsen, the atmosphere and panoramic mountain view while sitting in the out door bath is amazing. The staff were very friendly.
Review 48:i like everything of here! especially the view of outdoor onsen.
Review 49:Nothing! We loved it!
Review 50:The facilities were fantastic, staff were fantastic and we really enjoyed the town! The buffet was AMAZING!
Review 51:bit old building
Review 52:Guest can agree here is people's three star restaurant, buffet style.
Review 53:Excellent view from onsen! Comfy bed n stay:)
Review 54:the lift is not so efficient and small...
Review 55:The buffet breakfast and dinner are high quality
Review 56:Free shuttle, friendly staff and situated in fantastic scenery
Review 57:Noise from corridor and adjacent rooms.Rental shop is of average quality.
Review 58:Helpful staff, ski/board storage, onsen.
Review 59:Booked a twin room for a couple and got two single beds which were quite hard
Review 60:Staff were great, always helpful and breakfast was good

Review 64:Hairspring was awesome, especially the view were special!we can see mountains and nature in Hakuba!I want to came back again.
Review 65:it was nice view at breakfast and staff was helpful.felt like surrounded by the natures . will come back for sure!
Review 66:smokers in the main lobby hallway and the smoke that fills the corridor and lift entrance!! Yuk
Review 67:Staff were fantastic and although the somewhat issue of language barrier nothing was too much to ask, hotel is comfortable and warm room was set out well and bathroom facilities fantastic - Buffet really great and again the service and staff are exceptional, the Onsen was free and certainly a highlight for me -Thank You Hakuba Highland Hotel for making my holiday.
Review 68:The staff was very helpful,in English.the honsen was very good, also outside with snow and view. Breakfast was rich. The room was clean, and large enough. The hotel is a bit outside the main street. I recommend this hotel.
Review 69:The staff was amazingly helpful.. Picked me up at train station.. Spoke Chinese, English , Spanish.. And more.. Had buses to ski resorts , hot springs for after .. Great place .. Will go back for sure .. Book it !!!
Review 70:The Breakfast buffet was a bit dull. Also we tried the dinner buffet, it also was a bit unappetizing.
Review 71:The staff was great! "Omotenashi" I liked having our own bathroom.
Review 72:Near Habuka Eki, scene of snow-capped mountains and post-card like Hakuba village, excellent hot-spring spa, free shuttle to Hakuba Eki and Ski Areas.
Review 73:A little more signage in English would have been helpfull.Having morethan one room key would be usefull.
Review 74:The staff were all very friendly and went out of their way to help youwhere possible. The onsen was a highlight and great way to end the dayafter a big day snowboarding. You feel like you get an authenticJapanese experience staying at the hotel as there are hardly anywesterners staying there.
Review 75:It's a bit outside the city Hakuba (but they order a taxi if you are in need)
Review 76:The hot water natrual bath (Onsen) The frindly staff The shuttel bus to the ski areas
Review 77:The Staff were abit rude to westerners. I was not allowed in Onsen dueto my tattoos, but still had to pay the tax. My fiancé had heaps ofbites on her legs from the bed. Bath had scum on the sides. Vendingmachines were turned off around 10pm even though they said 24hr. Notnear the ski resorts like they state, at least 20mins walk to gondolas.
Review 78:The Lobby was ok. The Traditional garb was nice, and could wear itaround the hotel.
Review 79:Dinner was very local market oriented and very basic. Breakfast ok... Wepaid for 3 breakfasts but went only once as we were not reallyimpressed. But plenty of lovely places to go to in the towns of Hakubaand Echoland.
Review 80:The Onsen was the best bonus for us... Stayed 3 nights, went 3 times. After a day of skiing it was the highlight of coming home to rest! Thereis a washer and dryer, great vending machines, the drying room veryorganised and even hot water bottles for us to take to the rooms. LovelyJapanese hotel for a mainly Japanese market.
Review 81:extremely helpful staff. I will stay here again
Review 82:The buffet breakfast is good with varieties of food.
Review 83:Too far from the town Slightly run down feel in places
Review 84:Open air onsen Mountain views Food Free pick up/drop off
Review 85:only the lobby has free wifi access
Review 86:almost everything is very good
Review 87:surprise onsen or hot tub tax.. beware...
Review 88:the view from the breakfast area was magnificent, the onsen was also special,
Review 89:It is an ageing hotel that could use a renovation.
Review 90:The onsen was very nice and the staff were kind
Review 91:Our bedroom was not made up each morning
Review 92:Breakfast/dinner
Review 93:Breakfast Buffett and Onsen.
