Reviews for Anilana Nilaveli
Review 1:The excellent hotel with tasty food (breakfast was the best in Sri Lanka), kind staff, very big and clean rooms, beautiful pools and beach. There was no many people in low season, and we could relax very well. The spa is very clean and beautiful. The massage was perfect.
Review 2:Restaurant environment very disappointing and food lacking in variety, quality and authenticity. Staff and kitchen made to look like fast food outlet rather than a deluxe hotel restaurant.
Review 3:Bed and room excellent.Staff all very helpful and welcoming.
Review 4:Hot water takes very long, horrible street conditions to the hotel, no restaurant at the beach, eating outside can be managed by request but is not usually offered, balconies have only a side view on the beach
Review 5:Very ambitious and friendly staff, luxury rooms with huge comfortable beds, good food (international and local; breakfast, lunch and dinner), nice pools, very quiet
Review 6:-check out took bit time
Review 7:staff very friendly, good food variety - chef came to greet and to ask if there is something else we need. -beautiful pool and beach
Review 8:Bath/Toilet cannot be locked. It is uncomfortable and no privacy even for a couple. Both pools are 4ft deep. Second pool could have been 6ft. My children being good swimmers found it uncomfortable. The 900m path from main road was terrible and difficult for the vehicles. The worst is the entire stretch did not have a single street light. being in a jungle with lot of monkeys the hotel should have taken care of this road. We went to nearby town Trincomalee and when returned at 8.00 pm this 900m path was hell. A second card key was not available for the partner to freely move. We missed the sea bath because of rainy season. We were not advised prior to booking.
Review 9:Good food, Dinner and Breakfast: All local and international choices were available. Friendly smiling staff. Very large property. Good place for a stay for a group of friends.
Review 10:The transport is difficult as the road is not in good condition
Review 11:A beautiful location. Room service is excellent. Meals are very tasty. Welcoming environment.
Review 12:Bath room utensils could be improved. Could have provided conditioner as the water in the area results frizzy hair.
Review 13:Nice pool, lovely rooms with sea view, delicious food, helpful and attentive staff
Review 14:The location next to this beautiful beach is excellent. The double swimming pool is very good, although the night we stayed one was being cleaned. We were lucky to be able to stay one night before the hotel shut for one week for maintenance .
Review 15:Impersonal architecture trending to low cost construction - a bit cold with too much concrete. Peculiar music streamed too loud through a PA system that won't be shut off. Too expensive to declare value-for-money.
Review 16:Friendly management. Nice pools.
Review 17:Food needs serious improvement
Review 18:Great atmosphere and unbeatable beach just off of pigeon island. Rooms are big -and most have really cool outdoor showers. Also beautiful pools! Highly recommend for anyone looking to relax on an unbelievably beautiful beach.
Review 19:Don't know where to start to describe this beautiful hotel and this beautiful beautiful place! The staff is excellent, made us feel very spoiled The hotel itself is very beautiful, from the rooms to the hall, the terrace, the pool and the beach! Food is very very very good! Never the same, every night there was a different inspiration. Breakfast was very very good!
Review 20:Except for some very friendly staff, most of them continuously lookangry/unhappy, have problems to reply your smile or answer yourquestions (untrained?). Especially at the reception they are even rude. The manager/owner is very friendly. After 3 days we had to ask forfresh towels in the bathroom!
Review 21:Very good infrastructure next to a superb, clean walking beach.Excellent sea-swimming. Excellent bed. Superb, unending buffets butsomewhat pricy!
Review 22:In general the hotel is really great and on the way to a high class hotel. But in some details it has to be improved to be equal to high class hotels I visited. First the cleanliness in the chalot was a bit poor. Black hairs in the shower lot of sun cream stains at mirror, furnitures and the big frosted glas separation to the bathroom. The hotel is still in small parts in construction but you hear more or less nothing. A bit annoying was the snorkel ride to coral garden of a travel office at the beach which is not belongs to the hotel. We arranged a trip and negotiated the price but at the end the boat driver wants more money for services which shall be included. Bad feelings for a nice trip. In addition his motor works not well and stops often.
Review 23:The area is very nice to spend some days to relax at the pool or beach. At the beach it was great to lay in the shade of nice trees. The staff is at every place (beach, restaurant or reception) very friendly, helpfu and obliging l, for me sometimes a bit to much, but these is an individual feeling. The food breakfast or buffet is so great and delicious that it is hard to stop eating. Especially the Sri Lanka Curries are amazing. We stayed in a Chalot, which are very huge, well equipped und constructed of good materials and high class water taps of grohe. The bed is very comfortable and big.
Review 24:Barbecue dinner was a bit short on options. Voliebol set in front of the hotel beach spot is not so nice. Boat trips by the hotel ground polute too much water and air.
Review 25:Great room and location. Very good service.
Review 26:Can't be help but worth noting there were quite a few mosquitoes although the staff appeared to do everything in their power to overcome this. If you're prone to getting bitten, definitely worth taking repellent.
Review 27:Idyllic beaches, tranquil poolside and stunning scenery, not to mention the friendly helpful staff and delicious food. Oh and don't forget to go to Pigeon Island. Definitely worth the trip. Perfect stay!!
Review 28:I would suggest adding some items to the menu. Having spent a week there I really started craving for a good steak. Fitness center was still a work in process. Service still has a room for improvement, but I believe that would make it happen.
Review 29:If u want a very quite peaceful gateway - this is the place to go. Almost like Maldives (except for the fact that u don't get a private bungalo) but 3-4 times less expensive. Don't expect any entertaining or beach bars nearby - this place is not a typical Sri Lanka location. Rooms and bathrooms are very clean. Mattress is comfy. Staff is very welcoming and the service is much better than what u can expect from other hotels on the island. (they still have a lot to learn, but they r doing their best). Resort manager is very friendly, professional and attentive to ur preferences. There r just few properties around so u can take long walks on the beach or enjoy ur swim in ocean all to urself. Of course there are things that I would've improved but for the price u pay - the value is great.
Review 30:It is 2000 rupees roundtrip to get into trinco if you want to eat at another restaurant. Large markup on bottles of wine (6000 at the hotel and 1500 at the shop-- whilst not dissimilar to other hotels, the shops are much further away!)
Review 31:Staff were very friendly and attentive. Bed was very comfortable and great shower. Pools were clean and staff happy to share pool 'toys' and floats. Loved the free fresh fruit served by the pool- a small cost, but really appreciated.
Review 32:it'll be very hard to complain about the Anilana Nilavelli but since I have to write something : * it's pricey...but you know that in advance * communication towards guests can improve (e.g. we did not know about the buffet in the evening)
Review 33:This is a top end hotel so we liked everything. The assets of Anilana are : * delicious cuisine * a staff that makes you forget the Maledives :) * the setting : nice pools, clean beach, great cocktails and lazy lounge background music
Review 34:Being ignored / feeling 'left out' when a large party of function guests arrived, and not being served food in a timely manner during the function. Flies all over open uncovered food on the servery. Very loud thumping 'music' until 0200 during the function.
Review 35:The peace and quiet for a relaxing holiday (except for 2 nights). The beach being just a few steps down past the pools. The Spa and their treatments is just SUPERB. Lovely room. Great staff.
Review 36:Many luxury hotels now request guests to help them save energy through unnecessary waste of resources. This hotel does not seem to promote this, and I think that it would be a very positive step and one that most visitors would wholeheartedly support, especially as this is a part of Sri Lanka that is belatedly being developed after war and tsunami setbacks. Any new venture here can choose to set standards for others to follow and do their best to act responsibly towards environment and neighbours.
Review 37:Very relaxed atmosphere, wonderful beach and swimming, great opportunities for boat trips and snorkelling, particularly recommend local man Sajith for his boat tours and local knowledge. He was great company too.
Review 38:- far from other out of hotel cafes, etc. - wi-fi is not working on the beach - need more variety in their menu
Review 39:- nice clean cozy beach - good rooms - we got free of charge upgrade from de-luxe room to chalet - good quality of cuisine - very relaxed atmosphere - personal is very polite - the swimming pool was good and clean - monkey families were around, it was funny - breakfast was perfect
Review 40:The purffin is nice but too expensive
Review 41:The restaunt and the breadfast is excellent.Good position, the pigeon island's ticket toll is just on the beach of the hotel. And the staff is very nice.
Review 42:the road to get to the hotel was horrible, impossible without damaging you car ... holes in the ground!
Review 43:the bed was so comfortable, the swimming pool was clean and so nice, nice staff
Review 44:Mosquitos, lack of structure in the neighbour, the illumination and light system can be improved
Review 45:the place, the level of services. Get the opportunity to talk to the charismatic CEO of the company, Mr. Asanga
Review 46:There is nothing i did not like however i would like to give my feedback in a certain area. Since the hotel is very new there is always room for improvement. I feel that the in house dining menu should have more international cuisine s added to it. Also the soap and shampoo in the rooms could b of a better quality.
Review 47:Basically everything was just great. Staff are very accommidating and friendly. They go the extra mile in order to satisfy thr guest in every possible way.
Review 48:The staff kept coming to talk to you and there's a lot to improve on food and drinks.
Review 49:Very relaxing, beautiful pool, the room is really comfortable. You really get away from reality!
Review 50:Lovely surrounding , very relaxing place, cool open spaces and beautiful setting. Good varieties in the buffet , very tasty Sri Lankan food available, Restaurant staff also very helpful. Thanks you for such a great time.
Review 51:the prices of the evening buffet. The hotel next door had much better option, we always dined there in the evening, also- TAX was already included in their prices unlike Anilana.
Review 52:We liked the location of the hotel, right on the beach facing the Pigeon Island, the food was delicious, especially breakfast- they had everything you wanted. The staff were very helpful and friendly, some didn't speak good enough English though. Overall it was a fabulous 4 night break, beautiful location, food, the room was fab too. Enjoy!
Review 53:The hotel just have a swimming pool and the beach no other service, they told us this was because it was new. For such a price doesn't offer much.
Review 54:Good beach and breakfast and clean and spacious rooms.
Review 55:Maybe the facility in the room is not that complete. No teeth brush and teethpaste, no slippers, slow heating shower. But hey, those things doesn't matter at all when comparing to the great seaview.
Review 56:The hotel is bright inside. The pool is clean and great. The beach is incredible. With few people staying there, it is quiet and beautiful. The sand is light yellow, or maybe close to white. With the sound of the wave, we fell asleep! There is a Pigeon Island nearby. You can take a boat there at the hotel beach. If you want to see the sharks, go snockeling there :) Fantastic! The staff are helpful. Actually, there are quite a few staff and few customers, thus making the service quality great. The lunch price is reasonable (suggesting ordering by dishes not by package) and the foold is delicious. If you love peacefulness, it is your choice.
Review 57:Spa and rooftop bar still under construction, once that is settled I can't see a downside about this hotel.
Review 58:Excellently designed hotel, rooms very spacious and nice bathroom. The food tasted great and a nice selection of cocktails on offer. The pools are large enough to get some exercise although a bit shallow. Service of staff and management was excellent.
Review 59:Very new hotel Gardens not yet established Staff needs more training Narrow property small sea facing area. No other restaurants close by
Review 60:New facilities Big rooms Nice swimming pool
Review 61:Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent, very attentive service. Al a carte menu with good variety. Truely tried to make the stay as pleasant as possible.
Review 62:Food is expensive and the restaurant is quite formal. There is not a lot to do - 3 days was plently for us. The hotel charged our card for accomodation before we arrived!
Review 63:Nice views, pool and deck chairs.
Review 64:Spa / Fitness Centre are still being built
Review 65:Quiet and relaxing, right on the beach, choice of two pools, uncrowded, spacious, service from staff was excellent, food was very good for both Sri Lankan and Western options (a la carte as well as the buffet), head chef was also happy to go out of his way to prepare special meals that were not listed. Had a deluxe room on the 3rd floor with a great sea view, hotel is brand new so all fixtures / fittings / decor were in a very good condition.
Review 66:The food was not as varied or good as the high price they charge for There main area before the entrance to the hotel is ugly, as well as an old and deserted structure in the right side of the hotel -- that spoils asthetics
Review 67:High class hotel, quite, beautifull, very nice and friendly staff, not crowded
Review 68:You could be in any hotel, Anywhere in the world, albeit with an amazing and empty beach.
Review 69:Very clean, good rooms, friendly staff and on an incredible beach.
Review 70:The resort was fairly empty. They charge you a 10% service charge in addition to taxes, which comes to 25% addition to your total cost. We were never told about this and tipped all the staff generously throughout our stay. It is already a very expensive hotel, and some of the facilities (spa etc) are not completed yet.
Review 71:Excellent beach, clean pools, spacious rooms, friendly staff
Review 72:I had booked a 5 night stay and pre-paid, but requested a refund after 2 nights. The main reason was because the Anilana had promised facilities such as Rooftop Bar, Spa, 3 restaurants, and activities such as whale watching, diving, surfing, canoeing, etc. as per their website. Sadly only ONE restaurant was open during our stay- the other facilities were non-existent! It was only after contacting Booking.com and submitting photographs of the building site and unfinished rooftop bar did they grant me a refund and I was able to cut my stay short. The 5* star paradise resort that I was expecting was a far cry from the reality. The staff were incredibly lecherous. On the first day I sunbathed poolside in a modest swimsuit but the young male staff could not keep their eyes away from my direction which made me feel very uncomfortable. I had heard about the Sri Lankan men being very pervy but this made my skin crawl, and even gave me nightmares. The staff in and around the reception area were the same- they would openly stare and ogle no matter what I was wearing. Very rude. The room was bare- only a bed and two bedside tables. It could have done with a sofa, coffee table, and some art on the walls. It felt unfinished. Food- as mentioned, there was only 1 out of the 3 advertised restaurants open. We visited the Nilaveli Beach hotel next door and their food was cheaper and more varied. The Anilana's buffet is very expensive compared to prices across Sri Lanka- and beware they add the tax on afterwards so 3500LKR for a buffet per person was extortionate for the food that was available. I had much better buffets at other hotels for 1800LKR. Due to the fact no facilities were available, I feel I was grossly overcharged. You are paying for the undeveloped part of the beach- and not much else besides. Not a lot to do besides sun bathe and that can get tiresome after a while.
Review 73:The beach area and poolside is clean, and only frequented by hotel guests. Pigeon Island boat facility was directly outside the hotel. The room itself was clean, everything was new and recently installed.
Review 74:The only disappointment was that the spa was not ready as advertised, but what was built was great.
Review 75:The hotel is a new establishment and staff are still learning. However we were treated exceptionally and staff were without fail extremely polite and helpful. The location is beautiful and an ideal setting to relax and enjoy the unspoiled views of the sea and pigeon island, where the snorkeling is fantastic
Review 76:A bit pricey
Review 77:Bedrooms were excellent, bathrooms were amazing. Staff were extremely attentive and courteous. Buffet food choice was great and well prepared.
Review 78:Hotel opened only 3 months ago and some facilities like the spa are not in operation but it is only a matter of time. Lobby/restaurant/bar/kitchen is one huge open space. It lacks coziness ;air conditioning is a challenge and the smell of kitchen in the lobby is not so pleasant
Review 79:Perfect location Very friendly and professional staff eager to please and improve(for instance comments we made one night to the restaurant chef were taken into account immediately the day after to our full satisfaction). Very comfortable Our suite room was just exquisite
Review 80:Music played early in the morning by the pool - peace and silence would be more appropriate.
Review 81:When we raised some concerns at the beginning of our stay, Don, the GM tried hard to come up with a solution which would satisfy our needs. and it worked very well. Jo, Head Chef also treated us very well, serving Red Mullet from the day's catch especially on our request and showing a lot of passion to the cooking.
Review 82:Hotel delivers services and qulaity of 3-4 star hotel. It offers almost empty chales for the price of well-decorated rooms. Quality of food is the same story, usual mean european restaurant level, local food is cooked worse than in cheap town's restaurants. Nearest hotel posses much better restaurant To sum up, if u hope to get excellent and luxury rest this place will certainly disappoint u. They must impove a lot of things
Review 83:Excellent beach bur this is not the hotel's deserve
Review 84:Poor quality and variety of food Hotel is too new and not equipped for guests in terms of towels, etc. Staff is polite but not trained at all.
Review 85:Hotel design
Review 86:We were left waiting a long time for tea & juice in the mornings. I think pots of tea should be left on the table....often by the time the tea came round it was cold (although when Thilanka was on duty the service was excellent).
Review 87:The brand new facilities, in particular the pools. The fact that there is a shaded beach area. The open air shower in the room. The friendliness of the staff.
Review 88:The food was mediocre. Great breakfast buffet, but disappointing lunch and dinners. The food was very amateurishly prepared and presented.
Review 89:Facilities, staff, the location were all amazing.
Review 90:According to Sri Lankan standards it's a 5-star hotel, but according to European standards it's actually a 4-star hotel. Other negative pointe are: - prices for The buffets are too high (now 3300 rupees; drinks excluded). A reasonable price would be 1600 rupees (elsewhere in Sri Lanka we've paid 750 rupees for buffets). So we suggest you to have your dinners at the restaurant of the neighbouring Nilaveli beach hotel (good a la carte menus in a cosy setting on The beach and for half the price of what Anilana charges for their buffets); - don't book your boat hire for Pigeon Island via Anilana, They charge 12.500 rupees while boatmen on the beach charge 3000 rupees. - The bungalows are similar to the de-luxe rooms, but more expensive (so we suggest you to book a de-luxe room) - staff hardly speaks English; - staff needs to be trained in hospitality skills and working efficiently; - all prices for food and drinks are exclusive of service charge and taxes, so guests know what they're paying; - room rates are a bit overpriced;
Review 91:We've stayed here 5 days and enjoyed it very much. Our room was on the 3rd floor and had a perfect view overlooking the beach, sea and Pigeon Island and the 2 swimming pools Other positive things are: - friendly staff (especially the always smiling Tilanka!!) - the sunbeds - housekeeping (twice a day) - the very comfortable bed and pillows - perfect WiFi connection Other guest tips: - The bungalows are similar to the de-luxe rooms, but more expensive (so we suggest you to book a de-luxe room) Tip for room: Ask for a room on the 3rd floor for spectacular beach view; And the bungalows are similar to the de-luxe rooms.
Review 92:Rooms were unfurnished and totally bare except for a very comfortable bed. Deluxe room was advertised as sea/ pool view - it had neither and was a very basic standard room. It seems some rooms are not completed yet and shouldn't be made available at this stage. Anilana Pasikuda is the same chain and is complete and excellent!
Review 93:Staff were welcoming and friendly if lacking managerial skills. More training is required but as the Hotel is newly opened (3 months ) this will no doubt come.
Review 94:Waiting for food, design hotel (massa tourisme) most people That worked there not so friendly als what we expected.
Review 95:The beach is very nice and the food was good
Review 96:The spa is not yet available. Being a brand new hotel (they just started operations a couple of months ago) they still need to keep on developing the small details that are expected in hotels of this category (both the manager and the rest of the staff are working hard on that front though).
Review 97:excellent location; very good food; charming people working over there.
Review 98:No showers by the pool = no clean pool. Simple equation. AC didn't work for one night. Unacceptable. Should have received full refund. Nilaveli Beach Hotel next door infinitely preferable.
Review 99:Lovely room. Very pleasant and willing staff.
Review 100:The Nilaveli beach is beautiful, but there isn't a lot to do or see in the area and you are quite limited to the hotel for food and drink. This in itself isn't a problem, as the hotel is a lovely place to relax and unwind, but the food is quite expensive compared to the rest of Sri Lanka. If, like us, your stay at the Anilana is just for a few days of a wider trip in Sri Lanka, be prepared to spend a little more! It would have been fantastic if they had a bar/snack menu to choose from during the day.
Review 101:The Anilana is an absolutely beautiful hotel, and was a real highlight of our 2 week trip to Sri Lanka. The staff were fantastic and made us feel very welcome. The pool and beach area was very luxurious and a great place to relax. The Sri Lankan food in particular is absolutely delicious.
Review 102:Gravel road from the main road should be repaired immediately by the Local council.
Review 103:Nice food Friendly staff Great location Clean Beach
Review 104:Entrance road should be developed
Review 105:Beautiful clean hotel
Review 106:The staff are amazing. They are friendly, efficient and look after all your needs.
Review 107:Needs to improve customer service a little more
Review 108:No bad experience
Review 109:Very nice place
Review 110:Out of season, the place was nearly empty.
Review 111:The stuff is very service oriented, my full recommendation.
Review 112:buffet price is a bit much for the range of food offered
Review 113:Friendly staff great service and facilities
Review 114:Not good for the price
Review 115:Direct access to the beach, beautiful pools.
Review 116:Hospitality as it is meant to be. Friendly and efficient staff, comfortable rooms great food. Nothing more to wish for.
Review 117:The seating so very uncomfortable for a resort
Review 118:the view from the poolside
Review 119:Fantastic hotel, great location, friendly and attentive staff, excellent manager, great food and drinks menu! All in all, an experience to treasure!
Review 120:Very good service.specially I may thank reservation manager for his kind and friendly service.
Review 121:The staff, led by Paul was very prompt to all our requests and needs. It was an enjoyable two day stay.
Review 122:Breakfast could do with freshly prepared items like Hoppers
Review 123:Extremely helpful staff.
Review 124:Good. Service excellant.
Review 125:We love chef, his cookery is amazing, all what you ask is done, really great
Review 126:Warm and friendly staff made our stay welcome and enjoyable. The location was excellent and the hotel was quite comfortable.
Review 127:The hotel still under construction so no gym available and spa is temporary located in a hotel room
Review 128:modern design with spacious rooms and bathrooms
Review 129:Nothing
Review 130:Everything but especially the location just at the sea, the swimming pools, the architecture of the place and the very well furnished room
Review 131:Nothing to comment here, we liked everything
Review 132:The rooms, the food, the pools and the beach, and the staff that make the stay even more pleasant
Review 133:New resort still has a few teething problems to sort out
Review 134:Beautiful rooms (poolside), good food, friendly staff, excellent management
