Reviews for Nilaveli Beach Resort

Review 1:Idea for a short stay, but very little to do, for an extended stay, apart from relaxing on the beach.

Review 2:Fantastic location - beach huts right on the beach. Only 8 huts, so ideal for a large group of friends or family to make this their own private retreat. Extremely clean rooms and bathroom. Spacious rooms with beds luxuriously comfortable and loved the spa products and rain shower in the bathroom. Loved, that we could step out of our huts and onto the beach, with the sea just steps away. Fabulous tasty breakfast catering to both local and western tastes. Will definitely be back.

Review 3:The staff at this resort are inadequate, and lack the confidence that they need to communicate and cater to guests. Having to constantly ask for service such as our rooms to be cleaned is very disheartening. The restaurant is also disappointing, with average food, so choose wisely as you may end up with a crummy dish. What is furthermore disappointing is the absence of alcohol. Upon requesting a beer, we were denied as the restaurant didn't even have its liquor license! The restaurant, only has one menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner so therefore variety was simply not an option (had to source tastier, cheaper meals outside the resort). With set times for breakfast and dinner and all, the lights out at 10pm, you are made to feel like you are in a boarding school, limited from the freedom that constitutes a nice holiday. Overall the service lacks the sort of speciality that makes staying in a beach resort like this enjoyable, and your status as a valued guest is questionable.

Review 4:The location is phenomenal- being right on the beach allows easy access from your room to the shoreline. The location is also very serene and isn't near the busyness of town allowing you to have a quiet relaxing time.

Review 5:Food overpriced for what it was - except for breakfast, which is excellent and probably underpriced!

Review 6:The location, right on the beach. Unpretentious but very comfortable; very new. Great rooms and bath, high ceilings and nice verandas, all facing beach. Decent wifi. Very nice young staff.

Review 7:The bed feels wet, can not sleep comfortable. No toothbrush or toothpaste

Review 8:The beach is quite and peaceful, no crowed people or sports. The view on beach is good. If no cloud in the evening, we can see many stars. The hotel offer a surprise the 2nd day . The staff is very nice . The breakfast is good

Review 9:The scandalous special booking.com offer of a cabin at the beach, while almost all ARE on the beach. Despite this add we got an offer of the only apartment that was not on the beach. Another one close to a carpenter that hammered the whole day. The place is seriously overrated.

Review 10:Staff is friendly, though their English is poor. Kitchen excellent though amazing there was no alcohol allowed. Mix of tourism with local fishermen doing their work sympathetic and interesting

Review 11:There is nothing bad to say about this resort.

Review 12:An amazing location with beautiful rooms and facilities. But what really sets this resort apart are the incredible staff. We were celebrating a 60th birthday and when the staff found out they put together a special dinner menu, made a birthday cake and festooned our room with flower petals and created two brilliant elephants made from towels. Probably one of the best places we have ever stayed.

Review 13:Such a wonderful place!Excellent wooden room and great see view, the beach is just outside the door, easily to enjoy sunshine and sea in few steps. The facilities are the best I have meet in Sri Lanka, and the restaurant served tasty meal, especially the seafoods, with a reasonable price. And the staffs are friendly and thoughtful. They can arrange everything, such as diving、fishing、massage and transport. And they secretly arranged a celebration of my birthday, all of them come to sing the birthday song to me,made me so moved, that is one of the best moment during my stayed in Sri Lanka.

Review 14:We enjoyed everything!

Review 15:A fantastic stay at a wonderful location. Not much more to ask for if you are looking for a tranquill place to enjoy the Beach and beautyful sorroundings. Friendly staff and wonderful bungalows

Review 16:I stayed in newer bungalows that were less expensive. I didn't like the fact that there was a share balcony with the room next door.

Review 17:nice location

Review 18:If I had to think of something missing then perhaps a pool would be good but it's not a real issue as the benefit here is that you're right on the beach.

Review 19:From the moment you arrive the staff make you feel so welcome. They are all so friendly & helpful. The manager is great. Stayed in a king room & it was gorgeous with a four poster bed & massive bathroom. It was my birthday while I was there & it was a real treat to eat dinner out on the beach. Can't speak highly enough - great place. We were sad to leave!

Review 20:It is better if they can improve varieties of food items for breakfast. Why cant they offer sri lankan foods to foreigners.

Review 21:very comfortable room. We spent time leisurely due to room is open to beach side.

Review 22:- crows - poor wifi

Review 23:Amazing room, all wooden made, confortable & stilish. Very nice resort small (only 9 rooms!), hence quiet and peaceful. The location is amazing right on the beach and far from other hotels, really away from it all! Excellent food too & quiet a rich menu. We didn't want to leave!

Review 24:pretty far away from anything else, if you want a quiet relaxing time on a empty beach without many tourists it is perfect! Restaurant is pretty expensive.

Review 25:Right on a wonderful lonely beach, the resort only has around 10 rooms. we were alone in the ocean most of the time. The next hotel is pretty far away. Only ten footsteps to the beach from your bungalow. good service!

Review 26:Expensive. No alternative F&B within walking distance (but easy with tuk tuk to get around).

Review 27:Great beach with calm waters. Amazing, accomodating staff. Luxurious feel.

Review 28:No issues or problems experienced.

Review 29:Fantastic location, right on the beach. All of the staff made us feel very welcome from the first moment we arrived to the moment we left. The food was excellent noting that there are only a few guests here at any one time, the two guys who keep the grounds clean and tidy were very nice and friendly and the rooms were kept very tidy. We enjoyed every minute of being here.

Review 30:There were a lot of lizards in the resort.. The bathroom was not comfortable.. The AC (split unit) was blowing on our heads directly which could've caused illness.. The room doesn't have enough light bulbs..

Review 31:The staff are very friendly and helpful.. They always have a big smile on their faces.. The food was excellent.. The beach was so clean and private which makes it suitable for middle-eastern couples/families.. The resort is brand new (only 15 months old) with only 16 rooms (2 per cabin) which makes it very private..

Review 32:Wifi was poor. No TV. Dinner meals not good- stick to to curry options. Cocktails were poor.

Review 33:Being right on the beach is great. Breakfast was very good

Review 34:No such thing at this hotel

Review 35:The food and service was excellent, the accommodation very comfortable and it was a great pleasure to meet Mr and Mrs Perera, the owners of the property, and share conversation.

Review 36:We were disappointed with the food. We found the pasta dishes no good and meat and fish tends to get cooked until dry and chewy. Asking for medium rare (steak) and rare (tuna) was no use at all.

Review 37:Beautiful resort directly on a secluded part of Nilaveli Beach. Friendly staff and comfortable accommodation. The bathrooms especially were beautiful and generous. On our first evening dinner was served directly on the beach with torches around the tables. That was an amazing experience. It's a shame though, that they only seem to be doing it on rare occasions, it should be done a lot more.

Review 38:Fishermans in season period- they occupy the beach, very weak and unstable internet, very far from Colombo international airport- 8 hours by train or 6 hours by car

Review 39:If you want to relax from everything- that must be your choice. Only 4 cottages, no strangers nearby and very nice personnel and housing itself. Awesome beach and hotel territory.

Review 40:Food not amazing (we're vegan and informed them in advance but e.g. they didn't even provide dairy free bread, even though we found it readily available in local shops) - should focus more on local curry etc rather than average versions of Western and other cuisines, but they did make efforts to cater for us. Poor internet and not working in rooms/ on most of the site, but good in a way as helps you to switch off.

Review 41:Location/view - right on the most beautiful beach and near Trincomalee and attractions such as Pigeon Island. Extremely attentive and friendly staff. Excellent value for money. Small/intimate - only about 8 cabanas, although they seem to be expanding.

Review 42:We loved everything about this place, the cottage is supreme, beautiful beach, delicious food, Friendly staff A must must visit destination, trincomalee is the best place we visited in srilanka

Review 43:Food was dreadful - huge menu of frozen meals - not even the fish was fresh! Crows everywhere, as disregarded food hanging left around, thought staff sitting around doing nothing. There are on-going building works with hammering throughout the day - not what you expect from a relaxing stay at the beach. It was very clean except for the cockroaches in the room!

Review 44:Beach is beautiful. Sea is lovely and calm for swimming. Las vegas style lights in the evening. Dinner on the beach. Trip to pigeon island a highlight.

Review 45:unfortunately we could not sleep with fan on as it wasnt strong enough. AC a bit loud. however, we had this issue in many hotels - perhaps its just the hot season!

Review 46:the perfect place if you want to switch off and spend a few days in total relax. this is a very small resort, only 8 rooms, however it doesnt feel small. the splace is well organized, so you have the right amount of privacy, but also opportunities to socialize. the beach is perfect and so is the sea. there are plenty of activities you can do, and getting to town with a tuk tuk is easy (30 min of safe driving, about 10 euro return trip). you can alo rent a scooter! your only neighbours are fishermen, who work on the beach all day. it does not get in the way of your holiday, but it will make you feel guilty, and a bit lazy too! i find it quite charming that this hotel was able to find the balance between tourism and local needs. i hope it keeps that way. the srvice is good, the food at the restaurant is varied and generally good - overpriced, but that's expected. the rooms are nice and new. again, a nice combination of new and traditional.

Review 47:The lady in the reception might be slightly more friendly and interested in the guests.

Review 48:Loved the beach with local fishetmen and the food was just georgeous!

Review 49:The simple luxury. The amazing staff, from the kind and extremely helpful manager, to the brilliant chefs and restaurant staff, to the creative room cleaner, to the gardener. A perfect place to leave behind the troubles of the word

Review 50:The food is not so various as desired. Since as the place is too far from any places to eat (the nearest restaurants is in 15 km and the nearest and the only one supermarket is in 20 km from the resort) it would be good to diversify the menu.

Review 51:Very relaxing atmosphere in a quiet place in Trincomalee. The ocean and the beach are very clean. Is ideal to have a rest with children – a very worm ocean, safe swimming, clean beach, friendly atmosphere, comfortable and clean rooms.

Review 52:High room price. Very high price for food. No eating alternatives around. Very noisy daws.

Review 53:No crowds, only few rooms, very clean beach and luxurious rooms. Very good place to stay few days for beach relaxation.

Review 54:Wifi wasn't great but not a big issue

Review 55:The beach was lovely and we got up for sunrise and watched the fishermen. The room was really nice with a nice veranda looking towards the beach. We had dinner on the beach and as it was my boyfriends birthday they surprised him with a birthday cake after our meal. Very kind of them! Christopher who worked there was very helpful!

Review 56:The cocktails were horrible but that's a small thing. The wifi didn't work either.

Review 57:This place was absolutely beautiful and the staff knew it! As back packers treating ourselves to a night of luxury, we felt a little out of place but it didn't bother me enough not to recommended it highly! Only 4 little cabanas which were split in half on a secluded and stunning beach. The sun loungers were amazing. The rooms were beautiful and very clean. The restaurant did lots of sea food and was quite reasonable. The breakfast was amazing with Sri Lankan food, fruit, bacon and eggs and pancakes etc.

Review 58:The beach area outside of the hotel is filled with garbage and debris. Perhaps the hotel could set up a community project to help get the beaches cleaned up by un/under-employed locals. I would have gladly committed a few dollars to help with a beach clean up effort. Or maybe they could have their staff spend a little time cleaning the surrounding beach? It seems a shame that there are so many staff members tending the beach just in front of the hotel when the rest of the beach is in such dire need of a little TLC.

Review 59:This place is absolutely heaven on earth. It is small, intimate, and total serenity. Whatever you want the hotel will gladly arrange (and not gouge you while doing so). Motorbike rental to your door - check! Boat to Pigeon Island right from the beach in front of the hotel- check! Massage on the beach in your sun lounger- check! Mid-afternoon cocktails on the beach- check! Reasonably priced transportation to your next location- check! They arrange absolutely everything!!! The staff, the beach, the rooms, the food, the location - ooooh la, la! Food is also some of the best we had in Sri Lanka- try the Cuttlefish curry-- and skip all the surrounding restaurants.

Review 60:A fantastic place to totally relax. We spent five nights here. Loved it. I suggest some more thought goes into improving variety of alcoholic drinks - being able to order a glass of wine rather than a bottle and some cocktails and spirits, Some bombay mix or nuts would be nice with the pre-dinner drink. But these are minor points. There are only 8 cabins so a max of 16 people. You get superb individual service. Another plus is that being right on the beach there is breeze and unlike some of the other places you are not in the shade of tall trees but out in the open watching the fishermen haul in their nets. Apart from walking along the beach ( shame about the plastic bottles along the shore past the resort, can something be done by the hotels to tidy this up?) we just totally relaxed and did nothing else!

Review 61:Everything! Specially location, no crowds and great spot to watch fishermen at everyday work. Great beach and cabanas directly on the beach. Our little boys enjoyed very much! Stuff very friendly.

Review 62:There was nothing to not like!

Review 63:The bungalows are so very well build and perfect interior. The food and the restaurant staff is exellent! Littel rough ocean but we Where there in low season.

Review 64:Solar hot water has no back up, if it is cloudy there is no hot water. Rooms are rather dark and oppressive, two large walls are clad in cheap wood effect laminate, the rooms are filled too much big dark furniture. No shelf or vanity unit in bathroom to store toiletries. Staff cannot undestand that peace and quiet or the sound of thr sea is better than intrusive pop music

Review 65:Small quiet location fronting directly onto beach Extremely comfortable beds Very helpful freindly staff Constantly being cleaned throughout. Large bathrooom with great walk in shower.

Review 66:No pool - and sea quite surfy when we visited.

Review 67:Luxury cabins were perfect. Staff went out of their way to help us. Easy to arrange visit to Pigeon Island (snorkelling). Great food especially if you like fish. Unspoiled area with just a few scattered hotels.

Review 68:There weren't anything around neither restaurants nor any shops. For everything need to go to Trincomalee. Also there was very poor light in the room, even it was impossible to read anything

Review 69:Everything was excellent. Staff helped us very everything and all the time was incredibly friendly. In the restaurant they not only cook everything from the menu, but also offered something new what I could like. Beside it, it's just very beautiful place. We were almost alone for whole ocean. It was amazing. Local people are also very friendly. Photo from page don't show even small part of that beauty place and what they have.

Review 70:I never like when air conditioner is just opposite the bed because it makes me ill and this time was not the exception(( It is a bit far from the center of this area. If you are ready to be a bit isolated than it is the right place for you, but keep in mind that at the reastaurant the prices are like in any other hotel expensive. But I must admit that the food is VERY delicious! One more thing: there are 8 rooms at the hotel, but only 5 umbrellas with 10 chairs at the beach. So, one day when the hotel was full it was not enogh sunbeds(

Review 71:My husband and me really enjoyed every minute of being there, but we've spent there 10 days. I can just say that everyhting is nice and cute at this hotel. As it was opened only in March 2014 nothing could be bad there. There are only 4 bungallows and 8 rooms at the hotel. So it is very small. The manager said that they are planning to make one or Two bungalow more. In September 2014 there was no swimming pool, but they say it is also in the project (to my mind having such a beuatiful ocean it is not needed at all, but I guess when the ocean is rough it is better to swim in a pool). Everything is new and clean. The staff is friendly and any minute ready for a small-talk or to provide with any help you need. We needed a doctor, a scooter for rent, boat for snorkeling and many other things and every time we got help and advice and information! The beach is clean and every morning you can see fishermen pulling the nets from the ocean. It makes the atmosphere very special and romantic! You can also see Pigeon Island from the beach. At the very last evening we had a surprise from the hotel: free special menu dinner! It was SO DELICIOUS!! And so beautiful!! And on the day of our departure we were given some memory T-shirts! I

Review 72:This site on the beach is really extremely beautiful. Staff is helpful and professional. Accommodations are very good and the entire place made our stay relaxing.

Review 73:There´s nothing to say..

Review 74:We simply fell in love with this place...right on the beach with no one to disturb you, it leaves you only with your thoughts...and the local fishermen... The stuff were really nice and polite and the food in the rainbow lounge were soooo goood. Definitely worth the money you pay for it...!

Review 75:Resort is 19km north of the city and isolated

Review 76:Total concept is RELAXING. Small resort with all facilities based on comfort. Frendly staff, delicious food (fish catch fresh every day on own beach) and lovely chalets

Review 77:Some of the staff were excellent, others perhaps lacked some training (level of English, speed of service, understanding of requests). Lack of sunbeds (12 beds for 20 guests!). No mention on website or at time of booking of daily construction work (including very noisy drilling, banging and circular saw for construction of a new bar) - in a very peaceful location this wasn't expected or appreciated.

Review 78:Staff were friendly (but see negatives) whilst the location is stunning with very little to do but relax, perfect when you've been moving around the rest of Sri Lanka (however see note on building work). The rooms were very clean and comfortable and well equipped. Food was good and staff were happy to prepare food, even outside of set meals times.

Review 79:Great beach location. Service was great. Food was excellent. Don't expect to have much night life, but if you're looking for an unspoiled beach, this is the place.

Review 80:We think that this hotel is overpriced. There is nothing really special about room, everything is basic. Very poor breakfast! At the first day we had buffet which was OK, but the next days it was just toasts with fried eggs and instant coffee.

Review 81:Very nice territory with no peoples around. Pigeon Island (we like it a lot and we recommend it to visit) nearby. It's really quiet, peacefully and relax atmosphere. Friendly stuff.

Review 82:The manager -or the guy at the reception, whatever his title is- was arrogant, and was everything but nice: from our arrival until our departure. He was a bit "heavy" at the end of the day. This contrasted with the kindness of the rest of the staff.

Review 83:The kindness of the staff The room

Review 84:Restaurant too expensive Fisherman working all day with their net on the beach They must improve some services now the price it's a bit high for the services offered.

Review 85:The beach Very quiet

Review 86:Not enough sunbeds. No windows in the room, so we couldn't hear the sound of waves while in the room (the owner explained that the salty air would ruin the furniture). No beach bar, so we didn't have the possibility to drink a cocktail in the evening (however, as the hotel is very new, the owner said that in a few months he would build a swimming pool, bring more sunbeds and open the beach bar).

Review 87:It's on the beach. Nice baldaquin on the bed. Friendly staff. Very romantic, especially in the evening, when they put the tables and serve your dinner directly on the beach.

Review 88:noicy air-conditioner (but you can open the door and do not use it)

Review 89:so peaseful and nice place new and clean individual chales delicious food clean and non-crouded beach

Review 90:Staff very kind but not so professional (check in schedule at 14.00,we arrived at 12.00 and we had to wait till exactly 14.00 ti have the room)

Review 91:Few rooms (8),very relaxing, not crowded, good food and nice place

Review 92:Unfortunately the resort is trying to be more like a chain hotel than a boutique and so I fear that it'll get overly developed and lose some of it's charm. The food was not great and again this was due to the fact that they were trying to cater for tourists rather than doing something simple and doing it well. We ended up eating out in Trinco and Nilaveli for two of our three nights whilst we were there. Breakfasts were pretty depressing with limited fresh fruit, no fresh bread and little else on offer. Definitely the area they need to improve on the most!

Review 93:The location of Nilaveli Beach Resort is perfect for those who are looking for comfort but not a huge hotel with lots of other tourists. The limited number of rooms means that you can have your own share of the beautiful beach without having to put up with lots of other people as well! The rooms were beautiful and again offered lots of comfort with spacious bathrooms. The resort is right on the beach front and the beach is stunning with clear waters. Perfect!

Review 94:Couldn't lay on the beach or get in the sea quite often as large groups of fisherman use it to cast long nets from the beach.

Review 95:Comfortable rooms everything new. Great staff. Loved the food.

Review 96:TV, but not really required in such a nice place

Review 97:Rooms were tastefully designed, spotless beach, good food

Review 98:location, staff, rooms

Review 99:Superb staff - warm, professional, caring.

Review 100:The beach was quite littered to the left and right of the resort. This may have been just on the day I was there.

Review 101:Staff , food and room

Review 102:Small resort with family atmospfere. Lovely place

Review 103:The Beach is beautiful and the rooms amazing.

Review 104:attentive, friendly staff

Review 105:Crows. Could improve breakfast!

Review 106:Quiet place, few rooms meaning more attention from the great staff! Very good main dishes! Paradise beach!

Review 107:Time at the restaurant for dinner is definitely too long

Review 108:Beach - staff is vert kind

Review 109:Private location, at the end of the beach. Quiteness Nice food Spectacular massage down the palm trees on the beach Friendly staff

Review 110:It was a unique place

Review 111:Beautiful beach and amazing rooms. Tranquil and peaceful

Review 112:The beach was a bit trashy, a little clean-up wouldn't hurt.

Review 113:Really beautiful and peaceful location, charming cabanas.

Review 114:Not the best choice in local

Review 115:there are many liter on the beach and some time there are people burn the trash

Review 116:food/paceful/beach/overall env

Review 117:excellent snorkelling on Pigeon Island - great to be collected from the beach in the morning. The "Towel Art" was amazing !

Review 118:Nothing

Review 119:Everything

Review 120:Black birds, dogs, tones of trashy stuff along the beaches

Review 121:Quite environment

Review 122:Transportation to and fro is tough, tuk tuk expensive

Review 123:The empty beach, the rural village life feel of Trinco, with super luxury

Review 124:Accom was brilliant. Staff very eager to please. We almost had the beach to ourselves. Quiet, relaxing, very memorable

Review 125:Perfect location and a fantastic breakfast!

Review 126:Can't think of any

Review 127:The location, the environment, the absence of distractions like TV,Gym, closeness to nature, the beach and the sand

Review 128:food ; location; service

Review 129:nothing

Review 130:Quiet, beautifull, intimate- only 8 bungalows, excellent service, food, beach. Lovely place
