Reviews for Mantra Collins Hotel
Review 1:In general, it seems that the hotels in Hobart are relatively expensive, considering the facilities and services.
Review 2:The hotel is located near to the port; convenient for all travelers.
Review 3:Was a FANTASTIC place to stay! From our welcome to our farewell from staff was faultless. Facilities are modern, clean and welcoming. Will stay here again on our next visit to Hobart.
Review 4:I would like a shower only room , the shower over the bath is to small and you knock yourself on the fixtures , ans as I have arthritis the bath is not good .
Review 5:Great location, parking easy ,
Review 6:Lighting in the room. Using white light is too harsh for a comfy room. They don't provide basic toiletries such as toothbrush and tumbler cup, no slippers neither.
Review 7:Very helpful & friendly staff. Very convenient location.
Review 8:A 3 min walk to waterfront and a block from main street shopping made for a convenient stay . Room was large clean and comfortable with double glazed windows keeping the street front room quiet at night. A small cafe/ bistro in foyer area was perfect for a quick coffee or meal .
Review 9:Excellent location in Hobart with very friendly / helpful staff. Rooms were spacious and clean. No complaints (other than cost, which is customary for Tasmania in high travel season).
Review 10:Central location. Standard room, clean and comfortable bed. View of the car park building! Your bulk standard hotel. Able to use free computers in the lounge so could print off boarding passes- no charge for printing- thank you!!
Review 11:The only negative was the lack of a couple of extra shelves in the bathroom, so you could put your toiletries on.
Review 12:Being in a central position made it great hotel and the ease to get around the CBD and wharf area was a blessing for us older folks. The room was very spacious and comfortable, with cooking facilities if you didn't want to eat out.
Review 13:Car parking was in the building next door on the 7th/8th floors and was $15 per day, really inconvenient, dirty and not secure. The room was very small, not enough room to open your suitcase, unless on the bed, and the view was of the car park next door. The restaurant was only a cafe/coffee shop.
Review 14:location
Review 15:The road on one side of the hotel is a well-known gathering spot for local petrol-heads, who race and rev their cars there every night. The choice of views from the hotel room windows is between the backside of the main Hobart hospital and a multi-level car park.
Review 16:Clean (although smallish) rooms, all appliances and facilities working well.
Review 17:We found it difficult to control the air conditioning, which could be overridden from reception.
Review 18:The is a well located hotel, close to the harbour and the town centre. The well appointed modern apartments on the top floors have views to the harbour and Mount Wellington. The breakfasts in the restaurant were good. There is car parking available in the multi-storey near door at a capped rate.
Review 19:Only negative point is paid WiFi ($10 per day or $25 for 3 days), but there are 2 large screen computers in the lobby with high speed internet and printer, free to use.
Review 20:Mantra Collins is situated in a very convenient location, just 2 blocks away (go to left side on Argyle road) from information center, museums, Salamanca market, water front and Piers for MONA, Bruine island and other cruises. Woolworths, shopping market, local Metero bus stand, free bus for Salamanca market and restaurants are at stone's throw distance. Great hospitability, with staff always friendly, smiling, polite and helpful. Room was very clean, furnishings excellent, size small but sufficient and compact. My room was having views of Wellington Mountain. The housekeeping was always in time. Breakfast was excellent and healthy. It was not a buffet breakfast but made to order, a service different from other hotels.
Review 21:Parking can be tricky and hotel parking ticket validation wasn't well explained. WiFi should be free at this price level.
Review 22:Great location, staff, facilities. Reasonable restaurant.
Review 23:Muppet cooking toast and causing fire evacuation at 6am. I do like to be able to open a window
Review 24:Staff were great. Needed a meeting room the next day and staff obliged. Rooms are very good, well appointed.
Review 25:Our room was in a dreadful position. No views from the windows just the walls and gas bottles of the building beside. They would not give us another room because they said the hotel was full. We hated our jail cell and will never go back.
Review 26:Nothing special
Review 27:Room was quite small for an executive room and breakfast area very sterile. Not a cosy atmosphere, though food was good.
Review 28:Good location Pillows very nice and comfortable bed in room.
Review 29:No wifi for free and the room tariff is very high for Hobart where there seems typically no business activity No washer/drier in service apartment Kitchen counter is not sufficiently equipped
Review 30:Physical location Hobart is good
Review 31:Room was pokey - little to no living space and wasn't comfortablefor a couple to stay in for any period of time. Poor value for money.Car parking is absolutely ridiculous - prices are too high and thecar park itself is not attached to the hotel. Wish I had stayedsomewhere else.
Review 32:Central location. Cleanliness.
Review 33:No parking, expensive to park at nearby carpark. No room service during the day on weekends and the onsite café was closed. Very expensive hotel for the facilities.
Review 34:Location, very close to the CBD.
Review 35:not much choice with breakfast / same menu / It will be better if change menu day to day / didn't have facilities like Gym or pool
Review 36:good space rooms / friendly reception staff
Review 37:Staff were excellent and happily held our luggage for an extended amount of time before check in which was extremely helpful. Location was very good - within walking distance to all attractions. Overall was clean, quiet and a positive experience.
Review 38:I thought for a fairly small and moderate, plain little room I paid too much. Too expensive. But this may have been because it was a long weekend Oct 2 and 3. Tasmania was very expensive in general.
Review 39:The restaurant did the Best Breakfast I ever ate. I loved Hobart, MONA Museum was fab, Salsmanca Market fab, Mt Wellington awesome, the ferry ride to museum fab, the food and wine and cheese beer booze fab. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room clean and comfortable and just fine.
Review 40:We felt the price of the rooms didn't match the quality of what we received. We had decided to splash out a bit more during our stay in Hobart and choose somewhere a little more expensive so we felt a little let down. We've stayed in hotels all around Australia and the world on a variety of budgets & for the price we paid this has been one of the worst. It was also the most expensive stay during our Tassie trip and by far the bottom of our list. It would've also have been nice to have been warned about the terrible live grunge/rock playing in a venue downstairs on the Saturday night. I understand that is out of the control of the hotel, however a warning prior to booking would've prompted us to select a hotel in another location (we've stayed in a couple in Hobart CBD before & would've just stayed there). Things to improve is to update the quality of what's on offer in the room overall or bring the price down a little to match what you pay for. Things such as the TV size, channels on offer & reception (it was like watching analog again), as well as the quality & pressure of the shower are things to update & improve on in the future.
Review 41:The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The room basic but clean with a comfortable bed; the toiletries were great and we were happy with the laundry facilities but that's about it.
Review 42:Didn't quite understand the shower. The screen exteneded a foot from the wall and a lot of water was spraying out onto the floor?
Review 43:Central Location, Quiet, Views of Mount Wellington, and comfy. Good facilities throughout hotel and friendly service.
Review 44:over priced for what it was (a small room with mediocre view), parking was confusing and expensive, wifi was expensive, shower ran hot (really hot sometimes) and cold, air conditioner didn't go lower than 20 degrees, coffee was horrible. I would never go back there again
Review 45:after i complained about our room that looked directly onto a brick wall, we got a room with a slightly better view. because the room was not very nice, we got to spend a lot of time out seeing Hobart
Review 46:Beaware that parking is in a separate (but really close) private (so cost not included) parking lot.
Review 47:Good location, easy access to most things on foot.
Review 48:I don't understand why in 2015 hotels are still charging for wifi. $15 for wifi is a joke really. Other Mantra's are also charging up to $25. Wifi should be a standard inclusion for all room rates. Very unimpressed with this.
Review 49:Great location, parking was easy ($15 behind the hotel) and staff friendly.
Review 50:staff at the cafe on the ground floor could be more inviting and look like they enjoy the job...
Review 51:close to the main city and just walking distance from the harbor
Review 52:It was bad that wifi was not free, and that parking was $15 a night. The bed was uncomfortable. . You could feel the springs
Review 53:I liked the view from the top floor. Beautiful. Great cleaning from staff and very friendly staff
Review 54:Couldn't get the ABC on the TV on the first day but we were able to on the second day.
Review 55:Food from the restaurant was very good. Nice modern bathroom. Super- King sized bed.
Review 56:I don't think it needs extra payment for the wifi as a lot of hotels now offers free wifi already. We stay in a queen room next to the market parking which is a quite noisy on weekday mornings.
Review 57:Friend staff and clean room
Review 58:Nothing except the small noice from late night traffic.
Review 59:It was central. Checked in late and was greeted with professional and curteous staff. I Was hungry at 11pm after checking in and was able to get food. Clean and comfortable.
Review 60:The room (upgraded from queen to executive) was claustrophobic and overheated with the sun on the floor to ceiling windows. With the room being L-shaped the air conditioner was ineffective. The bathroom had no extraction fan. Definitely an exorbitant price for a small room.
Review 61:Comfortable bed and lovely shampoo/conditioner.
Review 62:Excellent customer service from all staff above the standard I've seen in many hotels. This hotel is exceptionally good quality for the price you pay
Review 63:Parking is expensive at neighbouring private parking. Initial staff member advised it takes 2.5 hours to Port Arthur. Better tourist information would be helpful
Review 64:The location of the hotel was great.
Review 65:Staff was very helpful. Our booking agent failed to advise hotel of our reservation but the staff made special effort to accommodate us even though the hotel was full. Walking distance to all downtown activities.
Review 66:This hotel is probably the best value for money in Hobart with prime location (5 min walk to MONA ferry or city centre and 10 min to Salamanca Place). The staff is extremely helpful and attentive and always goes that extra mile to help you. Rooms are spacious and bed very confortable. Will not think twice next time we're in Hobart and come again.
Review 67:The room was small. The restaurant was not impressive. Bathroom had very limited bench space for cosmetics etc.
Review 68:Location was convenient and room was clean. The lift was speedy.
Review 69:Shower leaked all over bathroom floor and didn't stay on consistent temperature. Also, exhaust fan needed in bathroom.
Review 70:Great location and friendly staff.
Review 71:Excellent location, easy walking distance to Salamanca, Constitution Dock and CBD. Large, modern, clean, room with all the facilities you expect but don't always get. Staff were very helpful and very polite. Although there were major roadworks right under our window we heard nothing, the soundproofing was excellent.
Review 72:1)fabulous and helpful staff - everyone of them!, 2)incredibly comfortable wonderful bed 3) delicious coffee. Amazing breakfast omelette. Pumpkin quinoa salad was delicious 4) elegant and beautiful furnishings 5) fridge wasn't too loud 5) spacious and neautiful room
Review 73:We paid for a King Bed and asked fro a high floor. We got a queen on the low floor. Parking was in the local car park at $15 per day.
Review 74:The location was great. Food in the restaurant was very good.
Review 75:Hot water in level 1002 seriously needs to be tested by future guests not handy man's hands. The temperature is changing from hot to Luke warm within minutes. Thought it was once off issue, until the second night when I reported it was still like that. Not a huge issue, but the cold attitude and argumentativeness of the front office male who is named Christopher. He told me the bathroom of his house was like this too so confirmed it was normal. Although the room move was offered, but not much point for me. He seriously needs training on professionalism.
Review 76:Location is great and very quiet! Housekeeping staff are so lovely! Special thanks to Sharon's team.
Review 77:Right now there is a lot of construction in the street in front of the hotel, which means a taxi cannot get close to the entrance. This is bad if you arrive during a rain (which we did). There is just no way to get one's luggage inside without getting it wet.
Review 78:When we arrived, we were offered an first floor apartment for the same price as a standard room on an upper floor. We took it and were very pleased. We had a separate bedroom with TV, a combination living room-kitchen area. There were 2 nice recliner chairs with foot stools in the living room area, plus a desk, chair and TV. There was a full fridge, a cook top, microwave, toaster, hot pot in the kitchen area. We had a separate bathroom with a large shower. We found it very comfortable. The elevator worked quickly. The staff were very friendly.
Review 79:1 Bedroom apartment is spacious and well equipped. Small easy access hotel, great upper level views. Room for guests or as family meeting point. Good proximity to city and wharf.
Review 80:There wasn't anything we didn't like. It might have been nice if breakfast and wifi were included in the price, but it didn't really bother us.
Review 81:The staff were amazing at reception. We mainly dealt with Alex and Stanley and they were always friendly and helpful. The king size bed was comfortable and the room was really clean. We also liked the bath and we liked that the location was walking distance from the main attractions of Hobart.
Review 82:The bathroom exhaust was frustratingly nonexistent. The TV was terrible, it seemed the picture ratio was out because it clipped the edges. The restaurant food could be nice, however because the prices were so ridiculous (for what is basically a few tables and chairs in the lobby), we would never have tried it!
Review 83:Situated in a good location, with friendly staff that were accomodating. The apples on the reception counter were delicious too!
Review 84:The bed had a strange mark underneath the sheet :(
Review 85:It was a great location and the staff were super friendly. Beds were amazingly comfortable. Breakfast was yum!!
Review 86:There is roadworks going on directly at front door. Luckily we booked in over the weekend so it was okay but they did start up early on Monday morning so could be noisy.
Review 87:Room was clean and comfortable. This was our first visit to Hobart and this hotel was in a great location for us to easily walk to all attractions.
Review 88:no parking, no free breakfast and no wifi not good for how much it is. Plus road works and and overall feeling of a business hotel not a relaxing warm hotel.
Review 89:The room
Review 90:Very helpfull and friendly staff.they were able to recommend good restauranrs and places to visit.overall great value for money and excellent experiance.
Review 91:Everything! Spotlessly clean, comfy bed, great quality linen and towels, efficient and helpful staff in all areas. Nice food in the restaurant and prompt room service. Very quiet given the location.
Review 92:Only to be picky here..maybe could have some more warming and relaxing lamps in the bedroom not the cold harsh ones.
Review 93:We had a lovely clean and modern room and bathroom. The staff were friendly and gave excellent recommendations on what to do around Hobart and where to eat which they were so right about!! Had a pleasant stay there for the weekend..and the hotel was within walking distance to everything in the little city! Will recommend to friends :)
Review 94:No free wifi :( Some hair on the bed & spare blanket in the cupboard.... And in the corner of the bathroom behind the door
Review 95:Location was great 9/10 Staff were very friendly - gave us maps & information on Hobart on arrival. Always said hi to us when we were in the foyer. 10/10 Bags were taken upstairs for us. Bags were held at reception for us after checkout so we could go out for lunch before leaving for the airport. Huge help. Checkout was at a great time - 11am Not too early like other hotels.
Review 96:Bed had an annoying bump thing in the middle, as if were 2 single beds pushed together
Review 97:Amazing location (right in the midst of Dark Mofo festival), clean, great value for money. The whole stay was nice and pleasant and trouble-free
Review 98:Car parking not convenient being available in a public car park ajacent hotel on the 7th floor up. So accessing hotel with luggage not convenient. There wer road works out the front of the hotel when we stayed so couldn't stop put front for this.
Review 99:We enjoyed our stay at hotel Collins. Close to town, friendly staff and overall nice.
Review 100:Roadworks outside. Room backed up to carpark - a bit noisy - but died off before it got too late.
Review 101:Helpful, efficient and friendly staff. Nice spacious room even with extra bed.
Review 102:Room was too small, we also wanted a room with a view as was in photo on the booking and requested was a room with a view... We were on 2nd floor and looked at a car park beside us towering over
Review 103:Nothing significant, but may be a consideration for some - not the place to stay if you are after a view from your room. My view was of a carpark, though there may be some rooms which offer better views, but not sure of this based on the location. They utilize a public car park next door for parking. So although they provide a discount, parking rates are much higher compared to other nearby hotels which have their own private parking.
Review 104:Clean and comfortable modern room. Breakfast ordered to the room was excellent and very well-priced. Good location near the city (I travelled for work) but only a 10min walk to the wharf - so well placed for tourists as well.
Review 105:Wifi dropped out a few times. Couple in next room had a ding-dong blue and we got to hear it!! Not the fault of the hotel.( the manager calmed it down.)
Review 106:Four minute walk to "Cat and Fiddle ". Friendly staff, both reception, cleaners and restaurant. Great buffet breakfast.
Review 107:I don't have a negative thing to say.
Review 108:I was pleasantly surprised how lovely this boutique hotel was. Location is great, perfect for my requirements, but I must add...the food in the Collins cafe, wow!! It's a simple cafe but your food was simply superb...10/10
Review 109:Although the room was clean, the pillow case was a bit old. You cannot really see it but when you sleep on it, you will feel that the pillow case has been cleaned for many many times because of rough surface of the pillow case. Wifi is too slow and sometimes the signal is very weak.
Review 110:Very convenient location. Easy to access the Hobart CBD and transportation. The room was clean and it was good enough for a short stay.
Review 111:Only the feeling of the breakfast room being inappropriate for dinner as well. The service wasn't appropriate for dinner service either. Needs some serious re-structuring.
Review 112:I thought the reception staff were very friendly and professional
Review 113:no fan in the ensuite bathroom Really poor free Wi-Fi - so slow and was unable to use.
Review 114:Great setup for our family of 4 with 2 older teenage daughters. Loved the central location - with easy walking to all major tourist attractions in Hobart and to most restaurants and the Salamanca market. I would recommend the 2 bedroom apartment to family and friends travelling to Hobart.
Review 115:Paying $15 a day for parking! A tip is its free on the street from 6pm till 8.30am just outside hotel which is ok if going on a day trip. Also if you park car in the building for one day and get it out on the second before the full day has expired it is only $15.
Review 116:Beautiful staff, friendly, helpful. Always with a smile. Very clean and comfortable. Quite rooms, easy for a good nights sleep. Wifi excellent. Overall a wonderful night spent at the Hotel Collins will definitely recommend it.
Review 117:Wifi is quite poor quality, coming in and out and not staying connected for long. Little improved over past year-plus.
Review 118:The staff here are wonderfully friendly and helpful, every time I have visited.
Review 119:The only complaint we had was the smell of the toilet water, it was quite strong, we had to keep the bathroom shut. Apart from that it was stay!
Review 120:The location was really great, walking distance to everything! The staff were lovely (along with everyone else in Hobart) and very helpful, they upgraded our room to a room with a view and even let us check out late. Would definitely go back there.
Review 121:The bed is super comfortable. Staff on the front desk were very helpful and the rooms are always spotless. The car parking on level 7 works really well.
Review 122:Extremely uncomfortable bed! Laying on the floor would have had the same result. Not what I'd expect at $180 per night
Review 123:Central to everything. Very quiet, short stroll to Salamanca. Friendly staff. Very clean.
Review 124:I am hard of hearing and use closed captions on the TV.These were not available
Review 125:Location. Contact made by hotel after I booked to confirm facilities for my husband who is disabled after an accident. This was our first trip away, and I found this reassuring.Restaurant meal was excellent
Review 126:We stayed here on Saturday night. It was very noisy as there is a pub near the hotel. People kept singing until 1.30am. We can't really fall into sleep until very late. Besides, our room was facing to a multi-storey old public car park. It was a bit scary when opened the curtain.
Review 127:Everything about this hotel is excellent from the friendliness of the staff and their willingness to help, through to the comfort and immaculate cleanliness of the rooms. Every facility was provided and the bed linen and towels were impeccable.
Review 128:Car parking is not free and room was over priced although it was peak season and my booking was relatively late.
Review 129:Very good location with 10 min access to wharf and Salamanca.
Review 130:Wifi was a bit of a challenge. Was free but kept dropping out, was slow or ineffective. Even though room was on top floor view is not great as there is not much to see except rooftops of other buildings but window was big and there was plenty of natural light - would not prevent me from staying again.
Review 131:Staff were lovely and helpful, room was clean and well set out, room service food was amazing particularly the home made lasagna and well priced too! Parking was close by as were all other attractions.
