Reviews for Edgewater

Review 1:Was a bit of a hike into town but then again exercise can be a good thing!

Review 2:Very good facilities and has everything needed for a longer stay (including washing machine/dryer). More upmarket than your usual accommodation which makes it special. The grounds are fantastic and lead down to the lake.

Review 3:Almost everything else in Wanaka was fully booked, so we ended up staying two expensive nights at Edgewater. It is a resort, and as such the place isn't exactly what we were looking for. All of the B&Bs we stayed in during our holiday were nicer yet cheaper. However, this only means that we stayed in some really nice B&Bs. There probably isn't anything inherently wrong with Edgewater, and it might be just the thing for other people.

Review 4:Would have preferred a downstairs unit but will know to ask next time.

Review 5:We had a lovely suite looking out directly towards the lake. Freshly decorated, contemporary furnishings and very comfortable.

Review 6:Room wasn't serviced 1 of the days during our 3 day stay and bed was very uncomfortable. Food service at the restaurant took 90+ minutes for meals and we had to go to the bar to order drinks and food as the waiters were busy with the "tour" section of the restaurant. I would not stay here again.

Review 7:Location is stunning and staff were friendly.

Review 8:The lounge had a glass corner window which allowed a view of the expansive grass area and Lake Wanaka, as well as through the large lounge doors and adjoining bedroom doors. We just walked across the grass to the walking track around the lake, and hired bikes to ride along there as well, and hired a kayak to use on the lake. Restaurant was cosy and food was good. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Review 9:Outstanding staff outweighed a few who lacked iniative.

Review 10:Edgewater is a lovely environment to stay at. On lakes edge and beautiful views of the mountains. Handy to lovely walks. Christmas dinner was well presented and delicious.

Review 11:We loved the quiet area and the walks along the Lake. Most of all the staff were most attentive and friendly. One of the best buffet breakfasts we have experienced in our many years of travel.

Review 12:it would be nice if they had breakfast included. we did not like they had bikes available for rent but they were as expensive as some in town and very dirty and looked old. we would have enjoyed a ride from the bike path (right on the lake in front of Edgewater) to town and around the lake. we were disappointed about that. we had to drive into town and organize the rental. I feel for guest they should be free or available at minimum cost.

Review 13:On request with no extra cost, Edgewater accommodated us 4 ladies( wanting for separate beds) amazingly, in a beautiful 2 bedroom villa with lovely lake views. we also enjoyed our dinner in their restaurant.

Review 14:Build I would say early to mid eighties it is quite obvious however the furnishings have been updated and overall I found it warm and welcoming.

Review 15:I thought the location was nice and peaceful and the view of the lake very good even my room didn't look directly over it. A little way from the town centre and I feel most people would need a car.

Review 16:Most rooms have a door to connect rooms. Unfortunately this means noise travels through the walls very easily. We had to request to be moved around midnight due to noise coming from next door. The staff we helpful and luckily we were able to be moved a couple of doors up. The bathrooms are tired as well.

Review 17:Nice lakeside position.

Review 18:Loved the location, we looked right out on to Lake Wanaka. The rooms were modern and light with glass sliding doors. This was the best of all the accommodation we had stayed in since arriving in NZ for our two week holiday.

Review 19:Dissapointed that there was a wedding on site and we were unable to use the full facilities, especially the outside sitting area. If you pay for facilities you should be able to use them. This party had three areas set aside.

Review 20:Location was great

Review 21:The breakfast was expensive for what it was, for that money you expect a freshly cooked breakfast!

Review 22:The porter was xcellent and fixed our tv, reception staff wasn't very helpful.

Review 23:A bit of a walk from town if one doesn't have a car but Wanaka is tiny so it was ok (and the walk goes by the famous Lonely Tree!). Spa was a disappointment: one hot tub and sauna which was not even on. Perhaps a bit cold and impersonal on the coziness side.

Review 24:Large suite with loads of space and view to the lake. Restaurant serves excellent food and the staff is super friendly.

Review 25:Pleasant resort right on the shore of Lake Wanaka, a relaxing location but one needs to drive about 5 minutes to reach the town center with the restaurants and shops. The resort itself has quite a good restaurant, the Wineglass Cafe. Attractive spacious lobby, 2 story accommodations – our room 408 was on the second floor overlooking the central lawn and parts of Lake Wanaka. Very clean, good sized, bright, carpeted room with desk nook, refrigerator, kettle, coffee and tea supplies plus milk in the refrigerator. Excellent bedding provides very good sleep comfort, good bathroom with tub/shower. Our excellent room rate did not include breakfast, but included free parking and wifi.

Review 26:Motel type room accommodation at hotel prices. You're paying for the view; we would rather have paid for better services. For example, room service was indifferent and food quality (and range) average.

Review 27:Very clean, incredible view

Review 28:we were lucky and got one of the renovated rooms. It was very nice. Unfortunately we couldnt stay as long as we had hoped due to a health reason and the staff were excellent in how they handled my request to leave early.

Review 29:Walls were so thin we were in 505 we could hear 506 stirring their cup of tea. It drive us mad and kept us awake. Sound proofing is a major issue

Review 30:Location and views

Review 31:It took me a while to work out how to open the door with the key but I think this was more my fault than anything else.

Review 32:The location is just far enough away from the town centre to feel isolated and have the peace and tranquility of the lake. The set up is lovely. The views are awesome. It was the sense of quiet that really made the place. The size of the apartment was wonderful.

Review 33:Inadequate room service and food. Couldn't order what we wanted and expensive burgers tasted like sausage meat Bar noise until 2am

Review 34:Stunning location and view

Review 35:Very soft bed wasn't very comfortable. And was just missing a little extra detail. A piece of fruit and a water to welcome you or something. Anything to show that extra bit of care.

Review 36:Amazing location. Staff were lovely. View is second to none. Nice, clean room.

Review 37:Shower over bath with low ceiling at one end ain't too good: Hard to solve that one! Have some pillow options in room: Our pillows were the soft collapsing in option that didn't provide good head and neck support.

Review 38:Overall a good stay: Value okay, size of our room was good, great spot.

Review 39:The fresh fruit available at breakfast was not peeled therefore making it difficult to eat.

Review 40:The rooms have a very nice fresh light décor with the supreme view of the lake and mountains. The bathroom was a good size.

Review 41:Some of the food wasn't particularly satisfactory and room service was abit early so had to miss out on clean towels for the second day of our stay.

Review 42:Warm beds and room. Nice bathrooms and beautiful scenery

Review 43:The decor in the bar/ bistro and sitting areas is dated dull and boring.time to get rid of green Formica topped tables. Not a throw, rug or magazine beside the fire, complete lack of acessories anywhere to be seen.

Review 44:The location is terrific especially as we had come to mountain bike.

Review 45:Tried to book for restaurant, staff at bar to busy talking to each other to serve. I got hold of a lady that seem to be a manager. Asked if we could book for restaurant was told to go and see reception she was to busy. Got to reception 3 people in front checking in only one girl serving so we walked out. Long black hairs all over bathroom and bed linen.

Review 46:Room was nice with lovely view of lake but was strictly a Tourist coach hotel.

Review 47:Great views from the apartment. Easily accessible to lake and easy walk into the town. Great eateries in the town and lovely shops. Didn't want to go home!!!

Review 48:None

Review 49:Edgewater is in a brilliant position on the lake with a lovely walk in. The bar and restaurant were first class and the staff really looked after us even doing our washing when the machine in the apartment didn't work

Review 50:I think it may have been the spin cycle of next doors washing machine at 2300 which was a little noisy at that time of night and perhaps some soundproofing may be advisable, but didn't deter from our lovely stay.

Review 51:The comfort of the suite, the total access to the lawn area down to the lake and the view framed by the trees in their autumn glory. Had a lovely walk in the evening and again after breakfast around the lake edge.

Review 52:menu selection , meals not as hot as should be on occasion. guest carpark taken when a wedding being held there. also house guests ushered to one side of bar, dining room whilst event was on.

Review 53:location - view lounge bar area - comfy couches friendly wait staff

Review 54:Not always able to get a parking space near our unit. Duvet on bed too hot and no alternative in room

Review 55:The location away from the bustle of the town was very relaxing. The staff were always friendly and approachable

Review 56:No air conditioning, Windows without screens. Close windows or turn out the lights to keep the bugs from flying in the place. Hot without all open, even doors. We stayed in March outside was 18 or less at night.

Review 57:Nothing

Review 58:Location was amazing, and we enjoyed some lovely drinks after our walk around the Lake in the outdoor area. We ate at the restaurant one night and the food was excellent. This hotel was a lovely surprise for us

Review 59:We arrived late as we advised we would and were placed in the worst room at the complex. I complained that we had booked six months in advance for a lakeside room. We were changed the next day and the staff were very helpful inthis regard.

Review 60:The unit, bedroom and separate lounge, was spacious and had a great view of Lake Wanaka. Also the unit had a washing/dryer machine, helpful when travelling! Easy walk into town alongside the lake but good dining available in the hotel.

Review 61:Getting a little tired in places. No separate shower in the unit we had but it was over the bath.

Review 62:Relaxing and quiet (slightly out of busy town), love the grounds around the complex and the views to the lake.

Review 63:The information stated lake front view but I would not consider this to be lakefront. To see the lake we had to look over to the right hand side to see just a little of the lake. Lakefront to me means you can actually see the lake when you look out the window. Bit dissapointed with this aspect.

Review 64:Staff were very nice and helpful.

Review 65:Rooms had chipped paint on the doors, felt tired and sliding door jammed. When we checked out we were treated less important than the older man after us in his suit.

Review 66:Great Facilities, restaurant and cafe and perfect location by the lake.

Review 67:While everything was good about the Edgewater it was very expensive for what it was.Expect better housekeeping for the money although it was just new towels the floor was not vaccumed or tidied.Made for and expensive two night stay.Over $1k 4adults 2 small kids

Review 68:The Apartment was ideal for what we wanted. We were baby sitting while Daughter and son in law attened a function.

Review 69:The wonderful view and garden. George fixing booking of jetboattrip on Matukituki river and accomdation in Arrowtown. Thank you George! The wonderful 15 min walk to Rippon vineyard.

Review 70:Toiletries not topped up without asking, a minor complaint.

Review 71:Spacious and comfortable one bedroom suite with a fabulous view. Delicious restaurant food.

Review 72:The musty, stale smell of the unit. Old, seemingly unclean ,smelly carpets and curtains. Antiquated bathroom, no heated towel rails, toilet had a distinct seweragy smell about it.The entire complex needs pulling down and rebuilt to a modern standard, especially given the nightly $ rate. Such a waste of money given the superb location.

Review 73:Loved the location and views. Excellent hot water.

Review 74:We stayed there only for one night but we enjoyed it a lot! The location of the hotel was excellent and close to the lake and we could enjoy the lake from our balcony. The room and bathroom were spacy, comfortable, clean and fresh. We had a fridge and TV at our disposal. Free Wifi and free parking spot were also available. The staff was very professional, very friendly and helpful. All our questions were answered before we managed to asked any. An amazing service! The breakfast at the hotel was also great. By the checkout we also received free bottles of water which was very nice. Checkin/checkout are available 24/7. We loved our stay there!

Review 75:Couldn't sort the wifi but to be fair I didn't go and ask anyone for help.

Review 76:It was a nice quiet room with lovely views of Lake Wanaka. Staff were brilliant on arrival and departure.

Review 77:For the price I would expect air conditioning. Had to use a very noisy fan. A seperate shower not one over the bath. The bathroom was crampt.

Review 78:The living areas Were spacious

Review 79:The rooms are quite old, may require some renovation on the furniture and some other elements

Review 80:Very good location, rooms have views to the lake. Nice garden, quiet rooms

Review 81:Location right at the lake with wonderful view, spacious and warm room. We liked it so much that we came back a second time within three days of our NZ travel

Review 82:The downstair rooms don't have good lake views and are very close together, so when sitting outside the room, you can see your neighbours. Also, people can see in to your room when walking across the lawn from the lake. The beds were not overly comfortable. Although the staff serving dinner and the desk staff were polite, the staff at breakfast were quite rude and we never had our order taken, even though it was not busy.

Review 83:It was in a nice part of Wanaka, but you have to drive into the main centre if you don't feel like taking a walk. Overall the facilities were okay. The food in the dining room was good.

Review 84:Bit of a walk into town but nice path around the lake made it pleasant. Weather for us was good but would have been a chore if wet.

Review 85:Our unit overlooked the lake - just beautiful. Grounds and surrounds very well maintained.

Review 86:No issues with Edgewater.

Review 87:This was our favourite hotel in the south island, and for a small sum as well! It had great access to the town, and everything you would need on site, and more! We rented bikes, and had a go on the putting green. We wish we had booked to stay longer. The staff treated us very well also.

Review 88:Restaurant good for breakfast proper continental with cold meats and cheese but eat elsewhere for dinner - there is soon much more to eat in Wanaka

Review 89:The location meant we had the best nights sleep of our holiday!

Review 90:We celebrated our 30 th wedding anniversary and what a beautiful place to do so with a view over the lake and the mountain! The setting is picturesque and weather played along so that we could go for a walk along the lake all the way to the town center. The staff in the restaurant was friendly and went out of their way to organise us a table at the window.

Review 91:- due to strong winds the door of our room was banging in the frame. must have been lacking the rubber seal

Review 92:- great location - very good food, including the freshly made scones (there's a special scone menu!)

Review 93:it didn't snow in the town - it did on the mountains but hey its spring!

Review 94:grass fields lake view mountain views space easy walk to town room sizes were great it felt right

Review 95:The laksa wasn't a laksa - laksa is like a soup - it was a noodle stir fry and pea and ham soup needs a little more substance than store bought ham

Review 96:Loved the location and facilities

Review 97:Nothing really.

Review 98:The beautiful grounds and location. It, as its name suggests, is by the side of a lake, with a vista of mountains in the background. I love this place! The restaurant was excellent.

Review 99:The only thing that I didn't like was the toilet seat in our very nice bathroom.

Review 100:Loved the staff. They were excellent and very sweet and well informed. Loved the location as well.

Review 101:You could not ask for a better location, right on the lake with snow capped mountains surrounding. It was breathtaking to wake to the view. Restaurant served great meals at a reasonable price. Staff were friendly and helpful. We were very impressed with Edgewater.

Review 102:kitchen is a bit small, and wash machine is not as clean as expected. over all, we still highly recommend this hotel.

Review 103:excellent view, cozy room, love it

Review 104:Location, morning sunshine, beautiful peaceful view of lake, large rooms with all facilities needed for a skiing holiday, including spa and sauna. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Review 105:Felt the bed sofa was bit uncomfortable sitting for a long period of time and it went down on the edge

Review 106:Loved the atmosphere, the location, especially being able to walk onto the grounds and along the lakeside. The room was lovely and the view amazing.

Review 107:noise from adjacent room, although requested a quiet room. asian party congragating in one room (next to ours)and taking photo's in front of our bedroom window in the morning while we were sitting there, very loud and no consideration for other guests (not racist but did spoil our stay) and whether we would book again

Review 108:rooms serviced daily , friendly staff, view from our room, location.

Review 109:The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We felt welcome the minute we arrived. The view from our room was incredible and although we were surrounded by other guests it still felt very quiet and tranquil. We had an amazing sleep that was uninterrupted and very comfortable. Overall it was just a great experience!

Review 110:I needed a reservation for everything in the area. Spending a large amount of money like that should produce an easier going atmosphere not "do you have a reservation?" The Ski locker is not kept up and smells horrible. It has been difficult getting the smell out of our boots and gear to be honest.

Review 111:Location and staff. Easy to get too from Queenstown. Front desk is one of the most accommodating front desks I have ever dealt with. Great place but lots of families so maybe not so great for honeymoon couples looking for a great amount of privacy.

Review 112:The only negative was housekeeping. The room consumables were not replaced at each service.

Review 113:The staff were generally excellent. The room was very spacious, comfortable, quiet and well equipped with a small kitchen.

Review 114:Sauna was out of order which was disappointing but I guess these things happen.

Review 115:Friendly staff, good buffet breakfast (wide spread with some healthy options by NZ standards; they brought us soy milk which I appreciate). Great location. Warm. Not going to win any architecture awards but good for NZ accommodation.

Review 116:Breakfast not included

Review 117:Doing a round the world trip. Came to be inspired, rest, and write a lot... Got exactly what I've looked for. Did some yoga and meditation with the Devine sunrises that seen from bed. The stuff were amazing and helpful. Perfect.

Review 118:The room had a great view of lake Wanka. The bathroom had a heater and the electric blanket was so great. The room was very clean and warm. And so quite.

Review 119:The hot tub and the sauna didn't work. The staff was less than concerned with the issue. We made reservations at the Edgewater because of their advertised facilities (hot tub & sauna). We did not enjoy our stay as we hoped as we would. We paid full price for an accommodation that provided minimum enjoyment. It was pointless to stay at the Edgewater as we were unable to use the facilities.

Review 120:The room was ground level and by far the best room it was just a little bit noisy when there were other occupants in the room above.

Review 121:The lake edge location was great with beautiful views, our room was superbly positioned. The rooms were warm, spacious and private. With plenty of storage and car parking available.

Review 122:To find out when we turned up that they charge extra to use a credit card to pay for it.

Review 123:It was of a very high standard, could not fault it. Did expect a heater pump over a heater, but heater worked well for the size of the room.

Review 124:-spa facilities require a walk outside, not ideal in the winter -spa changing rooms are unheated and have cold tile floors, not ideal in the winter -sauna and one spa pool / hot tub were out of action, disappointing after a day's skiing -customer review form was cunningly hidden under the bedding, very difficult to find

Review 125:+awesome location beside the lake +fantastic views +great staff, DK moved us away from the renovation works in the restaurant to the bar for breakfast

Review 126:Breakfast poor value. Limited range of Average ingredients served in a dark room accompanied to the sound of power tools.

Review 127:Great location right beside lake. Reception staff v helpful. Rooms well equipped.

Review 128:11am checkout

Review 129:Great location and facilities. Comfortable room.
