Reviews for Hakuba Mominoki Hotel
Review 1:spacious room, cosy lounge, awsome onsen, helpful and English speaking staffs, restaurants close by, free shuttle to and from bus station and train station.
Review 2:Hotel changed booking details in last day before arrival after it was previously confirmed. Building is pretty old and worn-out not clean. Breakfast and diner is same every day. Everything including services and food is overpriced in the hotel comparing to the nearest locations and average Japanese prices.
Review 3:Convenient location.
Review 4:Not enough snow early in the season
Review 5:Onsen was luxurious. Rooms were spacious andcomfortable. Staff were outstanding. Helpful, patient, charming, interesting offering service way beyond expectation.
Review 6:We stayed in Mominoki early March this year as the first hotel on our Honeymoon. We had 5 nights there and would go back in a flash. The hotel is located 250m from one of the twin chair lifts, so you can walk there and be guaranteed first lift up the mountain – this is the reason we chose it. The main Gondola is also very close and can be reached in under 10mins walking. The hotel itself is a little bit dated in terms of the decor, but the staff and the onsen more than make up for this. The onsen is spotless and every time we used it had guests from other hotels visiting for the onsen. Sitting outside with the snow falling on you while having an onsen is just magic. All the staff on the desk were extremely helpful, especially Masa. They booked restaurants for us, arranged the free hotel shuttle bus to pick us up and drop us off to dinner, and did everything else we needed flawlessly. When we checked out we caught the bus to Nagano, but we very stupidly left our JR rail pass in the hotel room, but didn’t realise until we got to Nagano. We called the hotel and while we had been on the bus the staff had already sent the pass with a driver to drop it off for us!! We also left birkenstocks in the onsen (we are forgetful travellers haha) and they have arranged from them to be sent back to Australia. We have travelled all over the world and stayed in some amazing hotels: Siz Senses Thailand, The Lansborough London, Copacabana Palace Rio, and while the Mominoki hotel building might not be nearly as ritzy, the service at Mominoki was easily as good as any of these places. In summary, Pros:- Truly amazing 5 star service from amazing staff- Right near one of the lifts, as good as you’ll get considering there is no true ‘ski in ski out’ accommodation in Hakuba- Hire shop opposite is the best in town with excellent equipment.
Review 7:My family are Niskeko regulars and I came to Hakuba out of curiosity to see if it is a viable alternative destination for our next family ski trip. I loved it. I booked Mominoki because of its location in Wadano, which is a lovely, wooded area, and the price. To be frank, I didn't think the hotel looked great on the website but thought I would give it a try. I have to say that Mominoki exceeded all my expectations and I would definitely return - although I'm not sure if they have family rooms or connected rooms suitable for families with young children like mine. It was a comfortable, warm, rustic and slightly quirky hotel with comfy mismatched furniture, log fires and old wooden skis propped up against the walls. The staff speak English and are friendly and helpful. I arrived in Hakuba by bus from Nagano (I think I'd hire a car from Nagano when I come back with my family) and was dropped off at the Hakuba visitor center, from where I called the hotel and was collected within a few minutes. The room was small yet comfortable with a nice view over the trees towards the ski hills. The nearest ski lift is walking distance away (maybe not for young kids) and the resort shuttle buses stop right outside. Taxis are easy and available too. There is a big Rhythm (of Niseko) ski hire store and Evergreen office next door to the hotel so getting kitted out could not be easier. The hotel onsen is great. The breakfast buffet was fine. I really liked this hotel. It's not at all fancy, but nevertheless seemed perfect for the area. I was there late March 2015 and the skiing was still good, although for purposes of full disclosure I only made it to Happo/Sakka areas. Hakuba valley and the surrounding mountains are breathtaking. We will be back next season.
Review 8:Hmmm...? The in room mini fridge kept my mixin whiskey a bit too cold and all the friendly Ausies were getting to be a bit much with their Vegemite... I almost called the embassy.
Review 9:I had a blast! Four minute walk to kokusai lift, breakfast buffet was mostly western and very tasty, staff was phenomenal and the onsen was just what the dr. Ordered after a full day on the mountain. This place was great, highly recomend and I hope I have the pleasure again! Yea Mominoki!
Review 10:The beds are very hard and the pillows are really uncomfortable. Woke up with a sore neck most days.
Review 11:The location is amazing, close to restaurants and the shuttle busses that take you to the ski fields. Walking distance to a few ski slopes, across from rhythm snow sports to hire your gear. The hotel also has a lovely onsen & they keep it for hotel guests only during peak times. A great stay!
Review 12:The drying room and ski storage facilities could have been better. Our room was near the bar so sometimes it was a bit noisy.
Review 13:Great location - a few minutes walk to Happo slopes. Buses to other resorts right out the front. Amazingly helpful staff. The onsen. The night disco courtesy shuttle.
Review 14:On ten down widen, the breakfast was only 'okay' and buffett, fairly average. Overall though, a great place to stay. Look for Gavrielle at reception.
Review 15:Helpful people, great location for the best restaurants, hotels, ski lifts to the whole mountain. The best a onsen and an amazing Japanese restaurant.
Review 16:Hakuba perhaps is the most expensive skiing site in Japan in my opinion.
Review 17:Staffs are very helpful. Breakfast buffet was good and so was the hot springs. Close to the lifts and gondola but still requires you to the the shuttle bus. Has its own bar and restaurants.
Review 18:The breakfast toaster needs replacing. The king bed was rockhard. Ended up putting the futons on the bed! The barman has bad attitude - last year he was the same!
Review 19:Great location. Twin tatami room had 2 balconies and great views of the mountains. Great breakfast.
Review 20:Drying room turned off at night - the heaters were very powerful so mostly things died OK, but one doesn't need to be drying clothes while out skiing in the day - only at night = back to front
Review 21:Awesome staff, very helpful booking restaurants, physio visits, arranging transport, lift ticket & ski hire discounts.
Review 22:Stay for the buffet, don't even know why we left the hotel for dinner after discovering it. Onsen is great, indoor and outdoor. Location is amazing, short walk to chairlift on the happo side.
Review 23:Make sure you book kidsski school before arrival
Review 24:Helpful and friendly staff. Great buffet breakfast. Buffet dinner had something for everyonr. Slopes 200m walk away and ski hire across the car park. Bus stop outside hotel that can get you to other ski areas
Review 25:Those two clothes dryers! You can't charge so much and not have necessary things as dryers not working. Dinner buffet was inedible.
Review 26:We really enjoyed staying at the hotel. A little on the expensive side, but it seems most accomosation in Wadano is up there. Great location. Easy walk to lift and restaurants. Very friendly staff.
Review 27:The staff at the Hotel Mominoki were wonderful - extremely pleasant and helpful. For relaxing après ski, the hotel has it's own onsen, a lounge, and a good pub just beside it. The ski rental shop is next door, and the hotel is on the free shuttle bus route for Hakuba and ski resort transport.
Review 28:Ski storage is just racks outside with chains-hotel hasn't got enough locks so we had to use our suitcase locks. Not ski in ski out but the lift up to the reds are about 7 mins with carrying skis. To the green lifts at least 15 min walk. Daily cleaning of rooms had to be requested and even then it was minimal- room was dusty and Hoover wasn't used for the duration of our stay. Literally beds made (not changed) and bibs emptied.
Review 29:The onsen was very relaxing after a day skiing. The bar was cheap and the Japanese measure is done by eye giving a triple measure for about four quid! Hotel staff very helpful.
Review 30:No indoor ski locker and outdoor only on plastic chain. Boot dry room but also not secure, although not a problem in Japan
Review 31:Likes the outdoor onsen, staff made reservations for dinner for group of 8 with free shuttle bus. Nice bar with happy hour in afternoon. Loved our large room with tatami area to have drinks with friends. Bath in bathroom
Review 32:housekeeping was the worst i have ever experienced although we asked for daily clean, dirty glasses and cups etc where NEVER taken in the 5 days we where there. Asked them to make the bed and it looked like a 2 year old carried out the task. Very expensive for what you get, and for what you don't get in regards to daily room maintenance.
Review 33:good internet and bed
Review 34:Do not eat at the hotel! Very disappointing dinner. Expensive considering room size and facilities. Will look elsewhere next time
Review 35:Handy location except for looking for a meal.
Review 36:I was disappointed with the small amount of space we had in our twin-bedded room including the bathroom as we had a fair amount of luggage with us, we were travelling for two weeks followed by five nights in Tokyo. I did take this into consideration when I booked as we were skiing for 6 full days..
Review 37:The beautiful welcoming smile of staff waiting to assist you with all your holiday essentials. A complete relaxed atmosphere in beautiful surroundings.
Review 38:Very small and cramped rooms (for family of 4), paper thin walls, flakey wifi (drops in and out) communal drying room was terrible (they turn off heater at night - pointless), only 1 small washing machine and 1 (usually broken) dryer for whole hotel.
Review 39:Great location if you want to access Happo-one, buffet breakfast was good, close to pub.
Review 40:Rather small rooms with retrofitted en-suite. However, the heating was superb and there was plenty of high pressure hot water for showers!
Review 41:Excellent staff, comfortable amenities. Excellent restaurant, bar and lounge. Distance from hotel to Evergreen Ski School - walking distance. Distance from hotel to Rhythm Ski Rentals - across the courtyard.
Review 42:Rooms where a little noisy and the beds were very hard.
Review 43:Well located with an easy 300 meter walk to lifts. Staff great and hotel arranged various transfers to local restaurants
Review 44:Walls were very thin and i was continuously woken by snoring from the next room. Drop in plastic bathroom really bad. Pillows were terrible Wifi very erratic For a couple with a young daughter our bed configuration was 3 x single??? 12 nights, linen not changed once 1 washing machine for about 300 guests. $500 per night for a three star hotel
Review 45:The indoor / outdoor onsen was really good. The lounge area for apre drinks was a good place and the barman made excellent cocktails for 5 dollars.
Review 46:Location was great. Staff were fantastic. We tried all the restaurants and the food was fantastic. We gave traveled a lot and Mominoki is one of the best value for money, great hotels with friendly staff, the restaurants were such a bonus.
Review 47:The decor is a little dated and the pillows were hard. However, the staff and location make it all worth it.
Review 48:The location is fantastic. It is a short walk to the gondola and right across the car park is Rhythm for ski hire. The Pub is close by and the hotel has an Onsen on sight. The buffet dinner is great value and the staff are wonderful.
Review 49:Rooms felt old and sub clean
Review 50:Was nice and close to our evergreen ski lessons
Review 51:Small rooms.
Review 52:The staff were extremely helpful and the hotel was in a fantastic position close to the ski lifts.
Review 53:Less choices of breakfast!
Review 54:Very helpful staff
Review 55:Nothing
Review 56:Excellent Service including transportation, Front Desk staffs are very helpful and friendly atmosphere. We hope to be back again!
Review 57:Very nice place
Review 58:Onsen
Review 59:The buffet
Review 60:The has ski rental in site and great access to ski resort. Also the staff can speak english and their smile made our stay wonderful.
Review 61:Distance to any other shops is far
Review 62:Great buffet and breakfast
Review 63:Drying room was not adequate.
Review 64:Great staff, very clean and comfortable, excellent breakfast provided. Close proximity to ski lifts.
Review 65:Quiet, cosy, great location, yummy breakfast, helpful staff and a great price! Can't go wrong :)
Review 66:Great Location and the best Onsen in Hakuba. Close to Pubs and restaurants as well as ski hire directly across the road
Review 67:The hotel restaurant.
Review 68:Helpful and friendly staff. Great location.
Review 69:The hotel is very comfortable and is close to the pistes and has a brilliant onsen. A lovely place to stay in Hakuba.
Review 70:No bad experience
Review 71:The way staff helped in everything. The beautiful onsen. The happy hour with fire and such beautiful surroundings. Food incredible.
Review 72:Staff and facilities
Review 73:Location is far from town center. No supermarket nearby. Room looks old but clean.
Review 74:Onsen is excellent, Breakfast is very good.
Review 75:nothing
Review 76:food, location, staff, the onsen
Review 77:The price. It was a bit expensive.
Review 78:Everything! The food, the hotel, the onsen, the location and the skiing were all amazing!
Review 79:Very nice place, location, staff. Good food/buffet. Very nice onsen.
Review 80:Rooms are a little small
Review 81:Great location - 5 min walk from slopes, 15 mins walk to village
Review 82:Rooms look small with western beds would be better with futons
Review 83:Excellent and helpful staff and close to lifts.
Review 84:Great location, great hotel!
Review 85:bar area
Review 86:Wifi was not working. There was only 1 computer connected to the land wire in the lobby worked.
Review 87:Costly Restaurant
Review 88:Onsen Staff Food Location Buffet breakfast
Review 89:Rooms are a bit small
Review 90:Location, cleanliness, staff
Review 91:Buffet dinners, buffet breakfasts, layout of boots and ski storage, no other restaurants open at the time, bathrooms were tiny.
Review 92:Location, staff, onsen
Review 93:Decor in the rooms is a little dated
Review 94:Great atmosphere, close to the slopes & restaurants & particularly liked the Euro feel of the design & amazing value for money
Review 95:Restaurant staff was rude and unaccomodating. Would not seat us after checking in, and again refused service another night because they wanted to close early. The pub and other restaraunts in the immediate vicinity had closed for the season, which was not made apparent in any of the hotels websites or information prior to arrival, and the staff didn't seem to care. I cannot recommend this hotel based on my experience here. I can guarantee friendlier service and better hospitality from a smaller pension or b&b in the area.
Review 96:Hotel looked good from outside and lobby. Onsen was spectacular.
Review 97:Nothing, I would go back tomorrow if I could
Review 98:That is the second time that I choose this hotel for my ski holiday in Japan. The location is perfect, you can walk to the ski slopes, all the material can be rented from Rhythm just 20 meters from the hotel door, the onsen is amazing, the breakfast is delicious as well as their dinner buffet.
Review 99:Hotel is clean but room slightly dated. Night time food option limited. (Nearby restaurant closes early, there is only a British pub opening late), about 10 min walk in the dark.
Review 100:Great onsen. Very convenient location. Ski rental shop on site. 10min walk to ski lift. Very helpful staff. Great hospitality. Good heat system, warm room.
Review 101:Not quite enough storage in bedroom. Could have had another set of drawers. Was not actually ski in ski out
Review 102:Staff were helpful. Bed was large and comfortable. Facilities were good, ie. onsen, bar, bar manager
Review 103:We were unfortunate to stay in a room next to a room with 3 guys. Because the walls are so thin we could hear every word they said. It's not their fault as they did not talk too laud, but when the walls are paper thin that's what happens. We expected better, when you pay $250 a night, will not go back there.
Review 104:The service, the personnel and the position is great.
Review 105:Having to ask for room to be serviced, getting fresh towels from Reception, no room service or mini bar, poor lighting in room, lift breaking down, uncomfortable bed, shabby decor, small onsen for hotel size.
Review 106:The hotels name.
Review 107:Very poor drying room and ski storage, it was first in first served. We on most days had no room to put our boots or jackets in the drying room. When we finally did get to put them in they did not dry. They dont have enough room for everyones ski's either. We found the washing machine had to use. Such a big hotel should have at least 2! We spent an evening waiting in line to use the 1 machine.
Review 108:Great location with the bus to all the slopes leaves from right outside. Only a few minutes walk down to happo. Spacious rooms with good heating. Lots of choice for breakfast.
Review 109:Buffet dinner each night is good quality and great for 1-2 nights, but menu recycled every second night so it got a bit monotonous over a week. Could we have 4 or 5 buffet menus? Eating at the hotel is very convenient after a hard day skiing!
Review 110:Close to the bottom of lifts, about 100m easy walk, and ski rental shop across the car park. Snow was wonderful, and resort largely empty by Australian, American or European standards. Rooms a good size and very comfortable. Breakfast was varied and good quality. Good value for money, would stay again if in Hakuba.
Review 111:We really like the hotel Onsen which is a great way to unwind after skiing. We wish that it was reserved for guests only as it was often too crowded in the afternoon to use because of outside visitors.
Review 112:Very helpful staff and nice comfortable rooms. THis is our 5th trip to the Mominoki so we clearly enjoy it.
Review 113:food was poor; decoration and furnishings were very tired; on site ski hire refused to refund last day of skiing when wife. was ill. overall, too pricey for that mediocre hotel.
Review 114:onsen was excellent, pub next door good, and close to skiing
Review 115:Not a ski-in-ski out resort. In Hakuba, its far from everything unlike Niskeo where there are many places to eat. So we ate nearby.
Review 116:Staff very helpful. They helped to book a bus for our group from Narita to Hakuba and Hakuba to Kyoto.
Review 117:Buffet breakfast was aimed more towards the Asians with not a lot of western variety, hot food was usually cold. The night restaurant only had buffet dinners and again not much variety.
Review 118:Location was good, short walk to ski lifts or hop on a shuttle bus to other areas out the front plus hire shop across the car park. Onsen was great to hop into after a day on the slopes.
Review 119:Nothing.
Review 120:Loved the stay. Highlight of our recent trip to Japan with the family. Staff were lovely and helpful. Fantastic value for money. Stayed in the 4 bedroom apartment and very nice and well priced. Would recommend this to everyone of our friends.
Review 121:Pretty expensive, but it is the tourist ski area.
Review 122:Super close to Happo One, Rhythm (the main hire place) and pubs in the area, Big Rooms, Good Breakfast, Free train station shuttle, Helpful staff
Review 123:Loved the location as it was only a 5minute walk to Happo one mountain. The onsen is a big bonus too. Breakfast was very nice also. Hakuba is a fantastic place to ski.
Review 124:The staff were helpful & polite. We arrived late and they prepared 3 x Bento Boxes for us! The hotel's close to everything we looked for - gears for hire, class, Happo-one and even pick up point for tour, so convenience.
Review 125:Breakfast & dinner buffets do not cater for vegetarian. Staff spoke little English & unhelpful. Do not serve coffee, lunch, snack. If one does not sit on the floor the tatami room is not suitable.
Review 126:Location is great. Close to ski field & rental shop & free shuttle bus. Combination room is large. Hotel shop is good.
Review 127:I have nothing negative to say about Mominoki Hotel.
Review 128:The hotel was very conveniently located near the ski fields. Almost ski-in ski-out. The amenities and appointments within the hotel were very good. The staff were considerate and very helpful. A wonderful holiday.
Review 129:The decor is dated , the food a bit dull and buffets monotonous. The walls were very thin!
Review 130:The staff were very friendly but limited English . The position of the hotel was great , only a short walk to the lifts. The onsen was fantastic and very clean.
