Reviews for Grand Hôtel Stockholm
Review 1:Around new year many visit the restaurant bar (with the brilliant view) which doesn't leave much options for guests..
Review 2:Excellent dining, Spa, location. Young staff though pleasant and professional.
Review 3:Nothing.
Review 4:Everything: location, interior design ( beautiful room in blue-grey colours), extremely helpful hotel staff, very cosy atmosphere ( we felt like we stay at home rather than in a hotel), one of the nicest hotels we ever stayed. Best of the bests!
Review 5:We made the reservation on Booking.com. I also got a confirmation letter 5 days before we checked in. However, we were told that our reservation could not be found when check-in. The manager at the front desk said there were some systemic errors that our booking record did not successfully get into their hotel system. She told us it was better to make reservation directly through the hotel rather through other websites in case this would sometimes happen. I was wondering if your company can fix the so-called "systemic error", otherwise it is meaningless that we book through booking.com. The manager was quite helpful and found a room for us eventually, but we wasted much time just waiting rather than exploring the beautiful Stockholm.
Review 6:A great central location with easy access to historical sites, dining, and shopping. A good view overlooking the palace and the water.
Review 7:The lack of drawer space in the room although the hanging space was adequate.
Review 8:The attention to detail in dining. Staff that were very willing to help or give information when asked.
Review 9:1. Requested dinner has not been delivered despite calling 3 times. 2. A stuff member entered the room at late night despite not receiving permission to do so. 3. Significant delay in assistance at the business area.
Review 10:Lovely spa area
Review 11:Sadly we had a problem with the Grand's wine list that sells vintage wines by the glass and we was very unfortunate to have a glass of wine from a bottle that had not been decanted or had a chance to breathe. When we pointed out that there was a large amount of sediment in the glass the wine sommelier was difficult and did not replace the glass which I would have expected from a high class establishment. Thereafter it took some effort to get the glass credited off the bill (SEK 790 = GBP £65) which took the shine off a wonderful stay. The rest of the staff within the established were mostly excellent. My recommendation to the estabishment is to remove selling classic wines by the glass from their menu. As for the Grand I would whole heartly recommend the hotel and I'm sure our experience was one off so don't let that put you off.
Review 12:The World Class Spa
Review 13:The room was in the "annex" not the magnificent Grand Hotel. This seemed to cause me to be sent to a room with no view for my breakfast instead of the front dining room where other people were enjoying breakfast with the the harbor view...?
Review 14:Max was so good , he showed me to my room and went to a lot of trouble to try to tune classical music through the new TV system. He organised for a kettle and coffee to my room and it was complimentary. Fantastic service from the concierge - Opera ticket , last minute and it was "Opening night"!
Review 15:The staff at front desk when we arrived weren't too helpful
Review 16:Loved the hotel , staff at front desk weren't as polite as the room service attendants though . However they were lovely and helpful and the food was amazing .
Review 17:During weekends they fill the bar and restaurant with people coming from outside, who are not staying at the hotel. It is close to impossible to get table/seat without relative long waiting time. This is very irritating and not the approach from a hotel that claim they are a 5-star hotel. If they will not find a solution for this I would downgrade the hotel to 4-star hotel. In that case you have to state that prices are overprised.
Review 18:The aircondition at our room did not work, we told the staff - but they did'nt fix it. It must have been at least +30 degrees in our room, and we could not sleep.
Review 19:We love everything With this hotel - It's just fantastic! :) (Exept the aircond. at the rooom)
Review 20:No sockets by the bed for your phone etc It's 2015 ... Unacceptable! Also uk, us, euro , AU combination sockets are available , there is no excuse to need an adaptor in a five star. Alibaba sells great LVC combination somets for $ 4... Bedside lamps blind you when you turn them on as they are above the pillow.
Review 21:Location, Food, Service.
Review 22:It would be nice to have some tea or coffee facilities in rooms as room service can take a while.
Review 23:This hotel is outstanding. The staff couldn't be more helpful, the spa is lovely, the beds and rooms very comfortable and the food excellent.
Review 24:Reception was a little slow checking-in, however, they were very friendly and able to change our rooms to ones with a view. It's a pricey hotel, but worth the money. Service was a little slow over the weekend breakfast.
Review 25:Great location- perfect for wandering around all the most interesting parts of Stockholm, lovely staff, gorgeous rooms with baths like swimming pools! Yes, it's not the cheapest option, but Stockholm isn't really a budget city, and the Grand Hotel was worth every penny
Review 26:Breakfast was very crowded. On weekends and the later part of the week, we had to wait a long time to get a table. Everything in the hotel is very expensive. But the quality was there
Review 27:everything: the facilities; the staff; the location
Review 28:Long and awkard walk from lobby to lifts to our room at far end of hotel. Room itslef (6602) was lovely.
Review 29:Verandan smorgasbord and breakfast. Spa. All the staff.
Review 30:The Breakfast experience for a luxury hotel is not good enough. Food fantastic. Too little room to sit and a queue to get in. Not really expected for a hotel of this ilk.
Review 31:Rooms, view and location fantastic.
Review 32:The value for money was poor. The staff weren't the friendliest, there was a large queue for breakfast, it was noisy, there was no space in the hotel bar for a drink
Review 33:The building location and the room we were given.
Review 34:Some personnel at the Veranda restaurant seemed more intent after a certain hour on tidying up and taking away our plate, glass, pepper, salt etc etc and preparing everything for the next service than making themselves available to the customer. We noticed this twice, at dinner (after 9 PM) and at breakfast (after 10 AM). It is such a widespread attitude that one tends to be understanding or not notice, but we would have expected differently in such a top class establishment. In fact it seemed that after a certain hour there was no more supervision, hence the slips. The attitude was not shocking or conspicuous, just a bit too obvious.
Review 35:The view, the Mathias Dahlgren bistro, the comfort (executive suite), the size and perspective of salons and bar, the situation by Gamla Stan and the cruise boats, the friendly attitude of staff.
Review 36:As well as catering for guests staying at the hotel, The Grand is also a meeting place for businesses and used by the local population. Consequently it was far busier than we expected and difficult to gain access to the restaurants. Breakfast always involved queueing for a table.
Review 37:The location and setting was superb and the staff excellent.
Review 38:Would need some upgrade..
Review 39:Beautiful old style 5 star hotel with sensational location on the harbor. Great wifi. Great restaurant inside..don't miss that one Large room also
Review 40:I loved almost everything about the hotel but the room itself. For such a pricey room the decor seemed rather down market and the view was basically non-existent. There was no coffee in the room which was a drag. It was also very small, much like you expect in New York City. I have stayed in another hotel in Stockholm which was much cheaper and had larger rooms. Although in many hotels breakfast is included, that was not the case for me with this rate. I would stay there again if I could get a good rate. But my sense is that there may be better rooms in the city at a better price. You would sacrifice the amenities of the hotel. But the trade-off might be worth it.
Review 41:I loved the location. It was very close to the tours and to the old city. I loved the fact that there was room service, a tub, a heated bathroom floor, a nice fluffy robe. I loved the convenience and luxury of the spa and the restaurant and public areas were gorgeous. The staff were all extremely helpful and courteous.
Review 42:Very unhelpdul staff at the restaurant and also at the reseption, probably because there are too many people passing by - it gives you a feeling that you are disturbing the staff and are not welcomed at all. Nobody offered to book a restaurant for us, when we asked about it. But maybe it's just the Swedish style - we noticed that at the shops, ex. Louis Vuitton, there is NO SERVICE at all. For the first time we QUEUED to have breakfast - feeling that we are at the railway station, hunting for the waiters and sitting with other people at the same table. Very uncomfortable shower - the water keeps floating the bathroom floor.
Review 43:Food quality at breakfast, room service, location is very good - you can approach everything within 10 min walk.
Review 44:Sour desk/ check-in people especially the women. Incredibly...nohousekeeping staff after 7:30p. That means no night time, turn-downservice. Two out of 3 nights came back to dirty, messy room &bathroom. Failure to meet us @ porter-less, luggage cart-less Stockholmtrain station.
Review 45:Our room,with balcony 9vwrlooking the canal, the Royal Palace;the l9cation.
Review 46:The insistence of the staff to address you with the formal 'ni' bothered me and is in fact rather rude. In the old days, 'ni' was used to address the servants. To be polite, you would use the third person or the passive form. ('Is sugar in the coffee desired?') Only the head waiter in the breakfast room seemed to realize this. ("Would the gentleman like a morning paper?") In modern Swedish, 'du' is the proper mode of address.
Review 47:The hotel is a classic one in Stockholm and deserves its excellent reputation in all respects.
Review 48:Elevator wasnt working properly. Staff at bar is under any critic. A shame for a 5 stars restaurant hotel. Their currency change rate is also unfair as they actually take more than 10 % commission on it.
Review 49:Location, room, spa are top class.
Review 50:10% exchange comission eur/sek, 10 min walk to the nearest exchange house.
Review 51:Location, wifi, harbour view, breakfast, bar, bed, free water in room, toaletries, most of the staff
Review 52:An amazing hotel with high qualified personal, fantastic location and tasty food in the restaurants. Absolutely enjoyed staying in the hotel for couple days and undoubtedly stay there again.
Review 53:Breakfast was charged double, the hotel did not respond to my e-mails on this matter. Although I brought to the attention of the hotel on our first day that one room would be occupied one day less than booked, the room was still charged to my account for that day
Review 54:Great location, friendly staff (although in the end not very helpfull or adequate)
Review 55:Room had an outside view of a wall. You could see a small patch of sky if you made a big effort. Too expensive for room size and view.
Review 56:Excellent location. Breakfast was expensive but fantastic. Staff were brilliant.
Review 57:Nothing I didn't like.
Review 58:A really beautiful hotel with superb service. I also met Stephen Hawkings who was a guest. Made my stay. Great location and the bed was so comfy.
Review 59:The reception when asked to change some cash they could not do it and we're not helpful . The staff at the reception were long enough to help the guests .
Review 60:Painfull slow service and twice brought wrong food at the veranda. Concierge was not nearly as helpful as she could be. Stained entrance carpet gave a slightly dowdy appearance.
Review 61:really great linens, friendly hotel staff and location was outstanding.
Review 62:Stayed for 1 night on a work trip - was given a free upgrade to a suite which was amazing. Excellent location, friendly and helpful staff - wished I could have stayed for longer
Review 63:Check in time was 3.00pm at 3.40pm the staff finally found a room. We booked a courtyard room. We had a roof of a building outside our window and other hotel room windows directly opposite. We couldn't see the sky. The Hotel insisted on delivering our luggage to the room. An hour (and two phone calls later) they finally arrived. We were tired so we ordered room service which was almost inedible. We wanted to watch a movie but there weren't any available and the TV had only two channels in English. There was a queue for breakfast which wasn't worth it. All of the hot dishes were cold.
Review 64:The location of the Hotel is outstanding. The Wellness centre and gym are excellent.
Review 65:Wonderful, wonderful hotel! Great location and terrific people who take customer service seriously. We didn't eat dinner there, but friends who did told us the food and service in the restaurant were excellent, also.
Review 66:Not a single bad experience! The breakfast could have been more varied however for a hotel of this stature. Their Michelin starred Restaraunt was closed for the summer as are some of the other famous restaraunts in Stockholm.
Review 67:It's the best location in the city and the staff were really terrific and very helpful. The bar is a real joy to sit in overlooking the water and their hospitality was outstanding. Our room overlooked the water and was extremely comfortable
Review 68:Big bedroom [ 4088 ] but insufficient hanging space in cupboard. A bit slow to repair TV.
Review 69:Excellent location, friendly + helpful staff, big, airy bedroom, excellent bathroom, lovely " verandah " rooms overlooking the palace and the seaand wonderful smorgasbrod for lunch, efficient + convenient charging points for computers + 'phones.
Review 70:I booked a terrace/side street view room which was described asbeautiful and quiet. The "view" was into other hotel rooms anda dirty roof. Absolutely no view. Had better views at Motel 6. Totallymisrepresented. Huge price for nice room but no view. Had to lean out totry to see sky.
Review 71:Location
Review 72:The room was a bit over-engineered. Sometimes it's better to have simple things that work well rather than some design features that are just silly (glass door to the toilet) and a wardrobe with hardly any hanging space
Review 73:Very friendly and helpful staff and a great cocktail bar
Review 74:Location of the hotel is second to none in the city. We were also impressed by concierge desk dedication to a high level of customer service. Extremily cool Michelin-starred restaurant is in the same building that is really nice. Breakfast served on a terrace with a big glass wall overlooking a lake.
Review 75:The WIFI malfunctioned during Saturday and Sunday of our stay, probably due to fully booking of the hotel.
Review 76:We have business on three continents and travel a lot. Grand is probably the overall best hotel we have stayed on ever allthough the competition is hard from hotels like Mandarin Oriental BKK, Grand Hyatt SIN, Vier Jahrezeiten Hamburg.
Review 77:Långsam roomservice där de glömde saker och kom tillbaka mycket senare. Skyllde på att de hade så mycket att göra. Men ett stort dyrt hotell borde ha tillräckligt med personal.
Review 78:Spa avdelningen
Review 79:You just need to pay the price for it.
Review 80:Breakfast at restaurant with amazing view, walking distance to palace, gamla stan and sightseeing ferry location. Helpful staff, clean room, amenities with good quality, everything was perfect.
Review 81:The hotel design is gorgeous! You feel like you are in a royal palace. Stuff is the warmest and most welcoming you can imagine. Rooms are beautiful and bathrooms huge with everything you might need. The view from window is breathtaking if they are toward the old town. You definitely want to pay for this luxury! The best hotel experience I have had.
Review 82:- friendliness and helpfulness of the concierge and other staff = unbeatable - spectacular breakfast buffet and view - fitness center and Spa = top of the world
Review 83:Smug, arrogant attitude of receptionist upon check-in. Housekeeping tried to enter room without warning 20 minutes after our arrival, no explanation given for this bizarre behaviour. Queue for breakfast was so long that we were forced into the bar instead where we were served a pathetically meager continental breakfast, incredibly we would've had to pay full price for any other type of breakfast despite the fact that breakfast was included in our room price and the hotel couldn't cope with the amount of guests eating breakfast.
Review 84:Room and hotel are beautiful.
Review 85:In general my stay at the hotel was good but I did report to the hotel management that I was unhappy with some aspects of my room. They were quick to respond and offered to change my room. I was not able to take this up but thyme did promise to upgrade me next time.
Review 86:Renovation of the hotel -Lack of information Blog awards -not informedabout this Impossible to use the restaurants- fully booked all Places-breakfast so crowded that staff avoided us to use it That I could notuse the hotel facilities Small SPA-but ok
Review 87:The room 301 The bed
Review 88:Loved everything about the hotel. The staff, services and experience was excellent! Went for a 40th Birthday treat and the hotel treated us to complimentary strawberries and champagne!
Review 89:- The old decorated rooms, were not as the ones displayed - The hotel was being refurbished so we couldn't enjoy the facilities of the hotel
Review 90:- The Staff are attentive and professional - The Breakfast Buffet - The Cafe & Bar were spectacular
Review 91:restaurant food was average for the price charged (buffet food) and Maitre d' was abrupt and unfriendly.
Review 92:Great location, reception staff very friendly and helpful, excellent spa, bedroom very comfortable and warm
Review 93:We had to queue for breakfast which in a 5 star hotel is a little surprising. That said, it was extremely busy due to an event taking place at the hotel.
Review 94:This is regarded as the best hotel in Stockholm and from our experience I agree. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. We shall definitely come back again.
Review 95:Could be busy in the breakfast restaurant with Limited attention from waiters. Had to ask twice for coffee.
Review 96:Comfortable beds, Good Food, Generaly high service Level, good ambience
Review 97:All good so nothing was disappointing.
Review 98:Hotel location excellent from which to explore this beautiful city. Relaxed atmosphere and plenty to do. Grand hotel certainly the cool place to be after 6!
Review 99:We didn't like that it was impossible to find free table in the bar during the weekend. Should keep some places for the guests of the hotel.!!!!
Review 100:All was exelent
Review 101:Only small issue is the breakfast room isn't overly large so a wait can occur if you get there past 9am. Likewise pool and sauna space is limited to prevent overcrowding so book in on arrival.
Review 102:Rooms Decor Location Food Coffee and breakfast Sauna and pool
Review 103:Staff are impeccably polite and helpful, and no matter how much you want to spend on extras (spa treatments etc) they treat all guests equally. Perfect location for exploring Stockholm, and a stunning view from the terrace bar.
Review 104:My second room in the second booking has some furniture which should be changed as it does not go with the status of the hotel. I think it is room no. 243 if I did not forget it. The furniture for placing luggage, I guess, is worn out. That is, it needs replacement.
Review 105:I had been booked in the hotel two times just in the late August 2014. My first room was really splendid.
Review 106:The regular prices are very high, even by 5-Star standards.
Review 107:Absolutely soundproof windows and walls, an atmosphere of refined discretion, spotlessly clean and well-maintained rooms and service.
Review 108:The only problem was that little kids were allowed just two hours in the spa.
Review 109:We were upgraded to a superior room. Fantastic room. Probably the best hotel in Stockholm.
Review 110:The pillows were a bit soft for me, but that's completely personal preference.
Review 111:From the moment I got there the staff made me feel welcome, offering me a choice between a view or a bigger bed when selecting my room. I went with the view which was worth it and the room was as cosy as they had promised at reception. Felt at home straight away - lovely toiletries in the bathroom. The location couldn't be better and staying here really made my trip.
Review 112:Leaving after only 3 nights
Review 113:We loved every aspect of this beautiful hotel. We are avid travellers and stay in 5 * places but the ever so friendly staff, especially at reception and the concierges was amazing. The breakfasts were superb and drinks or tea late afternoon looking out on to the canal is a very happy memory as well. The position, being so close to the Old Town and the main commercial centre was really convenient. We loved the elegant and palatial decor that was timeless and not over the top.
Review 114:The view, but you get what you pay for.
Review 115:The physical aspect was beauty. The staff, starting with Joel who checked us in,was terrific . Superlative food in the bar and room service . This is one of best hotels in Europe . The suite was large and comfortable.
Review 116:Some of the new bedroom facilities hadn't been been thought out-ie how to work shower and no suitable location for hair drier power point. Slow table service in bar area on first night of our stay.
Review 117:Newly refurbished room. Lovely bar area with great view.
Review 118:The only thing I can say there was no water-heater for the tea in theroom, but it was solved in few minutes when I asked it to housekeeping.
Review 119:One important thing about this hotel is: the staff is helpfull andfriendly, all of them, from valet service, front desk and concierge tillhouse keeping. Whenever I needed something, they were able to help in afast way. The breakfast is huge, one of the best in Europe. Wifiinternet is fast and stable. This hotel is quite expensive, but is worthevery penny paid.
Review 120:Selection customers in caffeteria.(means so many free tables.(1/3 free of the place)..but you cant drink a coffee even if ....almost everybody drink wine and coffee(?)-in waiters opinion it was a dining area and everybody drinks coffe and wine after lunch..(it was 5pm?- close 7pm) interesting.- no explain from managment
Review 121:Ridiculously expensive, service spotty. Hotel was very international and busy with cruise guests. Breakfast and the smorgasbord were excellent but overpriced.
Review 122:The location can't be beat and our room was spacious, clean and luxurious.
Review 123:Despite paying top rate and specifically asking for "a nice view" we were dumped in the annexe this time "because we had booked through booking.com". Our view looked aout at some wall. Awful compared to the proper front view rooms.
Review 124:Most of it other than the ludicrous prices which are prevalent in all Sweden. Fantastic location and beautiful city. Top quality food and service.
Review 125:... but the room was very small, a long way from reception, with 8-10 steps, and so I was glad I did not go along with their suggestion that I should carry my own suitcase to the room!
Review 126:Mostly excellent...
Review 127:Stockholm was experiencing a heat wave so the air conditioning had a bit of a challenge keeping our room cool enough
Review 128:Beautiful room, fabulous furnishings and a dream bathroom. Staff in the hotel were very helpful and friendly, always remembered us when we returned from our days outing. We would definitely stay again.
Review 129:rooms need to be modernized, sunken matress.
Review 130:location, staff, reception The hotel is a traditional hotel, great location to go around. Very hepfull staff willing toa comodate your needs.
Review 131:Leaving
Review 132:The staff, the décor and the thought that must have gone into getting every detail right.Verlanda Restaurant had attentive service and very ,very good food.
Review 133:Booking.com actually charged a different price than what was stated on the initial reservation.
Review 134:One of the finest hotels in Sweden and their reputation is well deserved. Impeccable attention to every detail.
Review 135:The computer in the business office used to print out boarding passes was not working. No one could be found to reset it over a 60 minute time period that I waited. This is not a 5 star hotel effort. The computer should be checked every morning to verify function. No further suggestion was made as to how to print the passes. This is a bed and breakfast hotel level of service, mes amis. $85 to park a car per night seems like over the top "creative billing".
Review 136:Very good staff in handling luggage for many heavily burdened and demanding travelers. Very capable check-in and concierge staff. Very large room. Nice bath facilities. Vey clean. Lovely bed linens.
The Fine Print
If you would like to dine in one of the hotel restaurants, advanced bookings are recommended. Please note that children under 16 years old may only visit the spa between 8 am - 10 am.
