Reviews for Arthawka Hotel
Review 1:While in New Bagan, we liked the location as it was close to town and felt a lot less touristy than old Bagan. Staff were very friendly and the saltwater pool is nice.
Review 2:The hotel is "old", ie you can see that the equipment and furniture has its years... Take a room on the first floor, the basement is dark and humid, the windows giving to a wall. Not sure if they have a washing mashine for the towels, one can see that even if they smell clean they become greyish with the time... The swimming pool is only for those really courageous - it is ice water! Breakfast is good but basic: spring rolls, fried rice, noodles, eggs, fruit and veggies. It is clean and none of us experienced any stomach issues whatsoever after eating lots of crude veggies & fruit.
Review 3:Arthawka would be an "ok hotel" in other circumstances. Taking into consideration that it is in the province of Myanmar, it is "more than ok" choice. The location is convenient, it is one of the first hotels when entering New Bagan - hence you are closer to the airport. This saves you some time if you take the balloon flight, precious when you fly a balloon from Nov to Feb. In march the balloons change their starting location. This time is precious as you need to wake up at 4:30 AM. It is clean, there is hot water, the staff is very nice and can arrange taxis at the same cost that in town but with a luxury car and very careful and kind driver. Mind that by taking a ride with him you contribute to his effort to pay private schooling of his daughter. His dream is that she goes to the university. I don't know how much he is paid by the hotel owner but he seems to be happy about it and respects his job a lot...
Review 4:The Manager was particularly helpful and the staff were excellent - the facilities are good and the pool particularly welcoming after the heat of the day
Review 5:Staff were exceptionally friendly and the breakfast was great. Lovely pool setting and the hotel was well located, overall I'd highly recommend this to anyone visiting Bagan.
Review 6:The hotel is a bit far from most of the restaurants in the new Bagan. Though, one can take a bike or motorbike and move around in new Bagan.
Review 7:The hotel is nice as well as the staff. They easily arrange anything for you.
Review 8:My biggest problem is the bathroom. The water pressure is weak and the toilet is smelly. We had 2 rooms and the other room didn't seem to have a problem with the smell.
Review 9:The staff is nice and helpful. The location is near the Old Bagan pagodas. The food in the restaurant is good. Good value for money considering the other hotels in Bagan are charging at least twice as much as Arthawka.
Review 10:The pool receives almost no sun in winter (the main building is too high) and it was too cold to be used. We might have been unlucky with an abnormally cold weather, but if not, then don't expect too much on having a swim during winter time. One side of the hotel has direct access to the street and the rooms are therefore very noisy The rooms are really spacious but lack of charm.
Review 11:Very helpful staff Clean and spacious rooms
Review 12:This was the best hotel during our two weeks in Myanmar. The reason for this was the staff of the hotel and the manager Shiran Ekanayake who met all our needs and requests. It was really 5-star service!
Review 13:The pressure in the showers was inconsistent: a dribble in the evening and mostly fine in the morning. The beds were too hard and gave me a shoulder ache all of the next time. We thought a $100 was too expensive, even if the staff were lovely.
Review 14:The manager and staff are very friendly and helpful and even allowed us to check in many hours earlier than scheduled due to our night bus arriving early from Inle. Throughout our stay staff were attentive and keen to help.
Review 15:The room is spacious but the furnitures are dated. Naturally, I didn't open the window or curtain, no view at all...the window just face to a wall if you stayed at the ground floor.
Review 16:Staff is helpful and good varieties in the breakfast, swimming pool is a plus during the hot noon time.
Review 17:Breakfast is okay. The hotel is located a bit at the edge of new Bagan away from the 'centre' area. But we had an e-bike almost every day and there are a few nice restaurants within walking distance - do in any event stop and eat at Star Beam a wonderful restaurant of a sweet family. We rented e-bikes from Phay Phay and her family at the end of the street, turn right when exiting the hotel
Review 18:Staff was super friendly. We had to leave the hotel at 5am to catch the boat and were even offered a breakfast box to go. Can't emphasize enough how much we liked this hotel. Nice clean and spacious room. Perfect pool area to start or end your dusty Bagan day. We ended up extending our stay with an extra day because we liked the hotel and Bagan so much.
Review 19:Breakfast was a real let down. Fruit salad portion tiny! Bread was lovely but I am a vegetarian and was served bacon with my eggs when I was asked for scrambled eggs!
Review 20:Very quiet rooms. Great location by the canal, so you can watch the world going by.
Review 21:*** shower fittings worn out, should be replaced asap
Review 22:*** character/layout of the hotel with rooms grouped around a swimming pool *** wide choice of breakfast buffet based on Myanmar food
Review 23:View from the room was just some leafy greens along a fence with pigeons. Not Really worth complaining about though- had a great stay!
Review 24:The pool was a great spot when it was too hot mid day to be out and about (water was so cold!). The breakfast isn't the largest selection but the staff are so helpful and friendly and will make you waffles:) the room was really big, plenty of space for us and everything was always really clean. The front desk staff don't speak much English but there's a manager always on hand to help out with perfect English If you ever need him. The location is good if you're looking to stay in new bagan- you can walk to some restaurants or rent an e-bike and get to all the pagodas. Great experience here!
Review 25:1). a top quality hotel in New Bagan rivalling the more expensive hotels in Old Bagan, but at very reasonable rates - great value. 2). excellent service overall, from General Manager and all his staff. Nothing was a problem. 3). good pool for a dip after a hot day visiting places 4). a new roof-top restaurant with very good ambience, providing delicious food and wine. Now no need for the hassle of walking into town for an evening meal.
Review 26:The staff were very helpful and helped book our onward boat trip. We really appreciated being given our room when we arrived after the overnight bus from Yangon at 5am. The pool was fab after a busy day among the pagodas.
Review 27:lights in the room are dull and it is not possible to read because there are no bright lights next to the bed.Bath room is slippery will need a rubber matress
Review 28:clean comfortable. breakfast was good.
Review 29:Poor wifi in the bedroom. Only available at the lobby.
Review 30:Great location! Very friendly staff! Spacious room with good comodities. Good variety at breakfast.
Review 31:Limited menu options which on a nice day wouldn't matter as there are a lot of places within a 10 minute walk from the hotel. However, it rained 3 days straight during our visit and it would have been nice to have more menu options available.
Review 32:The staff were excellent, very helpful and friendly. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The saltwater pool and garden area were clean and relaxing. The wifi wasn't that strong in the room but it worked fine in the lobby and near the pool.
Review 33:The hotel was well located and within walking distance of shops and restaurants. The management were extremely friendly and helpful and we had an excellent one night stay. The swimming pool was a welcome relief from the heat.
Review 34:Not at all.
Review 35:Very helpful and very courteous staffs.Thoughtfully kept switch ON the Air condition even after the room door was closed make very refreshing and comfortable for the guests.Early check in and Late check out were allowed for the guests who came by bus is very considerate and we rate this hotel the Best in Town.Sure we will come again next year.
Review 36:The room on the groundfloor was too moist... It was hard to breath, but we could change... We ended up staying 7 nights...
Review 37:Great room (first floor), great staff ( there should be a TIPBOX on the counter!!!), great pool, nice breakfast...
Review 38:Amazing friendly staff. Late check-out without extra charge. They gave us a room to take a shower before we left the hotel in the evening. Great breakfast, good variety. Only two minutes walk to enter the temple fields. Nice Restaurant nearby. E-bike rental 20 meters from hotel (new E-bikes for 4000ks per day) Perfekt location to enjoy the Bagan area.
Review 39:The pool was a highlight of our trip as it was very hot. It was nice to spend most of the day e-biking around Bagan and then having a refreshing dip, before venturing out for a meal again.Breakfast was very good and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Review 40:We asked the hotel to arrange taxi pick up from the pier. However, it didn't come. We left with no choice but hire our own taxi eventually we need to pay a much higher fare than what we have arranged. The lights in the room is quite dim.
Review 41:Very friendly staff. They helped us to arranged all kinds of transportation and gave us very good advices to look around the city.
Review 42:Nothing!
Review 43:We had a fantastic stay at the Arthawka Hotel. The service was exceptional and all of the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They organised bus tickets, taxis and bike hire for us which was a great help. The manager very kindly arranged for a lovely room as it was our honeymoon - even more appreciated as we had arrived very early in the morning. The pool was great and a welcome relief after cycling around Bagan in the heat. We were pleased with the location - lots of restaurants within about a 10 minute walk. It is located in New Bagan which is further from most of the major temples than Old Bagan but this doesn't matter if you hire bikes or e-bikes. We would recommend this hotel to anyone planning to stay in the Bagan area - it was definitely a highlight of our trip to Myanmar!
Review 44:Nothing, all was great.
Review 45:This hotel was in an excellent location, the facilities (especially the pool) were great and the staff very friendly. I had a very enjoyable stay here.
Review 46:- no safe in room - located on the outskirts of New Bagan, a few minutes walk to the nearest shop or a restaurant - bigger breakfast choice would be good - saltwater swimming pool - a bit weird that far inland
Review 47:+ very friendly and helpful staff + e-bike rental just outside the hotel + very spacious rooms + lobby area with some exciting exhibits + convenient souvenir shop - use it as a reference so that temple-side stall owners don't overcharge you
Review 48:Great hotel - extremely friendly staff, bicycle rental just outside, good breakfast, help with bus reservations, spacious room, beautiful swimming pool area.
Review 49:The tap and shower water was salty.
Review 50:The staff were courteous and helpful whether it be room issues, booking a driver and renting an ebike. The lobby is spacious and my room was large and clean.
Review 51:WiFi connection in the room is hardly accessible during the evening and we had to go to the lobby and pool area for faster internet
Review 52:Spacious and comfortable rooms. The staff and hotel manager were acommodating with our early check-in. We arrived by bus in Bagan at 5.30am and truly appreciated having the room early.
Review 53:No wifi in the room (but in lobby & poolside which is fine). Water leaks from the shower place. A bit distance from the old Bagan but with the e-bike is not a big issue to me. Nth much around the hotel area.
Review 54:Friendly & helpful staff. Good food in Restaurant with reasonable price. Nice pool. Early check in & late checkout. Electronic bike rental at reasonable price.
Review 55:Only a minor thing is that the official closing time of the pool is somewhat early. Not enforced though!
Review 56:The amazing level of service, no thing to difficult!
Review 57:The saltwater pool is very good and the rooms are very big, they offer the facility to rent a E-Bike which helps to see most of the temples in Bagan....
Review 58:Very clean, spacious, beautiful rooms, great pool, lovely food. Staff were extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming. Excellelent value for money - highly recommend.
Review 59:I didn't like lights in the room. They were very dim as they were sleeping lamps at the wall. And wifi was available at only lobby, not in the room.
Review 60:Hotel staffs did take good care of visitors. We were late for breakfast twice, but they called us to confirm that we would have breakfast or not. And when my husband went to dining room alone at one morning, the staff asked him if they will keep some nice food for me and will prepare at the lobby after I got up from bed. I felt like my mom's home.
Review 61:We were lucky to receive a free upgrade so had a lovely spacious room. The pool area was great and the very friendly staff made us feel so welcome.
Review 62:The hotel was amazing and the staff were fantastic. They accommodated all our needs and we're so helpful. The swimming pool was wonderful and our twin room was very large. They have an e-bike rental service which is a must in Bagan and they help organise trips if you need any assistance. I can't praise this hotel enough!
Review 63:The room was good. But as mentioned by some others, our room had a very distinct odor. It was not unbearable, but not pleasant.
Review 64:The staff were very friendly and helpful. They allowed us to do a late check out for a small fee. The location was not a long walk to the downtown area. We needed to walk to the pharmacy, ( a small one, but well stocked with medicines, and a young pharmacist who spoke some English just make sure you know the name of the medicine you are looking for). The restaurant looks quiet, but the food we ordered from the menu was very good.
Review 65:Since we arrived until we left the hotel the staff did everything to make our stay enjoyable. Everybody was ready to help us everytime, considering that we arrived 5:00 am! Shiran, the manager was very nice, friendly, and helpful. They gave us early check in and late check out because the hotel wasn't full. We bought bus tickets in the hotel with fair price. Room was big, great shower and comfortable bed. Movie channels in the TV. Great swimming pool Wifi was good, we had some bad connection in the first day but the manager solved the problem right away. We had booked just one night and we decided to stay one more.
Review 66:After changing rooms 3 times due to cockroach issue in 2 of the rooms and dirty sheets, etc., decided to leave the hotel after a few hours. Breakfast looked as sad as the hotel.
Review 67:People were very nice as they are everywhere in Myanmar Good Location if you want to stay in New Bagan.
Review 68:the pillow is a bit too high.
Review 69:Wifi is good. swimming pool is a big plus to the hotel. I appreciate very much that hotel staffs' help and allow me to have a late check-out by 2 pm.
Review 70:The hotel is located in New Bagan which is more quiet and boring than Nyaung U. But there are restaurants and shops within few minutes walk. Wifi not good but its common in most Myanmar hotels
Review 71:Staff are friendly and helpful. The small salt water pool help you to shake off some heat.
Review 72:Was upgraded when we arrived. And extended our late checkout for free to accommodate our bus schedule. Very friendly staff and great breakfast. Location is convenient with easy access to restaurants and super mart in the acheaological zone.
Review 73:20-30min by E-bike from the Old Bagan (the area with the main temples).
Review 74:Helpful and smart English-speaking staff. They helped me to solve bus-ticket problem within 15min. Calm area with outdoor swimming pool. Good to relax. Excellent kitchen. Fruit market only 2min by E-bike from the hotel.
Review 75:There is really nothing really totally wrong about this place: it is just sad, with sad elevator music in the lobby and large dark rooms and toilets without windows Breakfast and dinner time limits (9.00 and 21.00!) just confirmed the nursing home feeling No credit cards, too many small plastic bottles thrown at you (garbage is becoming a problem in Bagan) wifi slow (but that's normal in Myanmar) and with many passwords
Review 76:Quiet (a bit too much)
Review 77:With almost every option in new bagan charging around $30,- we had a great deal trough booking.Com. Worth every dollar. Clean, friendly, huge room and such a nice swimming pool!
Review 78:The food was average, but the service was good.
