Reviews for Royal Bagan Hotel
Review 1:we did not like the hotel pool. Some shelves in the room were full of dust.
Review 2:Great location of the hotel, near the main street with restaurants. Room was big enough with confortable bed. Breakfast was also very good with large selection of meals to choose from. Reception staff was always willing to help.
Review 3:Poor Booking & reception system, if you have reserved a room, you may not actually have one!
Review 4:Best breakfast buffet of all the hotels we stayed in during our tour of Myanmar, lovely if small swimming pool to relax by after a long day.
Review 5:Booked a bed in dormitory, which is actually a double room converted into dormitory. Was supposed to be 5 person max, we ended up being 8, mixed men and women. No standard facility of hostel: only one bathroom for the 8 people in the bedroom. Don't accept room 405 and 406: water pump starts every 10 secs and makes terrible noise. Impossible to sleep
Review 6:clean and rather new hotel
Review 7:Nothing
Review 8:The staff was excellent. We were given an upgrade because our room was booked out. We almost missed our bus to jj, if not for the effort of reception staff who called to check with jj bus company. They arranged a taxi immediate when jj bus company had forgotten to pick us up. So easy to communicate with the staff who spoke fluent English. Also, for the price we paid, was very reasonable given that hotels in Bagan are at least 75 U.S. And above. Location to good restaurant in nyang u, and an e bike shop next door.
Review 9:Staff at reception are not very helpful, their English is not as good as it should be. Really annoying loud noise from a water pump next to the room.
Review 10:Nice swimming pool with sun beds to chill after temples hopping. Breakfast is nice, but keep in mind that dormitory guest don't have access to the buffet which makes you feel like kind of second class. Comfortable mattress and nice and clean room. Hot water. Good atmosphere in the dormitory.
Review 11:I was expecially struck by Staff friendliness. They helped us for everything . Our room was excellent and at a very low price ! Great breakfast buffet. Very close to the airport highly recommended !!!
Review 12:Water supply shortage over night, need use bathroom & toilet next to swimming pool, but water come back in next morning, so still very effective.
Review 13:Staffs are helpful & nice, everything is clean & good condition, sitting along swimming pool is quite relaxing, breakfast is good. Me & friend stayed at dorm room with 5 beds, and we were so lucky to got a semi-private area with door, which made us feel like stayed at a private room, of course our room mates were very kind & polite :)
Review 14:Pool was not heated do too cold for swimming
Review 15:Staff always helpful and friendly. A little far from the main destinations but w/I walking distance of good restaurants.
Review 16:Bin in bathroom had not been emptied from previous guests. The pool area has strange situation so it doesn't really feel like an area to sit and relax in.
Review 17:Large rooms and super large bathroom. Decent breakfast friendly staff Generally clean hotel & rooms
Review 18:Two things you need to be aware of :- There are no safes in the rooms: this seems a serious omission. The bathroom window has no glass and does not have a mosquito net so mosquitoes can enter your room both underneath the bathroom door and the door to the hall. So you will need a mosquito coil at nigh in the bedroom. Again this is surprising given the price of the hotel.
Review 19:Lovely staff trying very hard to run a good hotel. Huge rooms.
Review 20:Be careful with renting ebike from the person who does business at hotel reception area. When it broken, I called and they promised to come and change ebike within 10 minutes but no one came to help and I had to walk with the ebike for nearly 2 hours to the hotel after waiting in vain for 30minutes. The vendor finally appeared at the hotel and told me that I could call the policy :(. The only bad thing I experienced during my trip in Myamar.
Review 21:Good location, clean and friendly staff
Review 22:Breakfast a bit of a let down for the price, basically toast and omelette for western taste only. We live in Asia so know what to expect but for the price would have expected a little better.
Review 23:Great staff - very friendly and extremely helpful! Allowed an early check in for us and the room was beautiful and spotless. great location, easy to get to temples on the electric scooters you can hire.
Review 24:There was a bad smell from the shower drain. Some of the shared places were not cleaned, e.g. stairs. The number of bikes is super limited.
Review 25:Very friendly and helpful personnel. Nice, spacious room. Good breakfast buffet with additional options. The room was clean.
Review 26:Very clean, air con, pool, nice and helpful stuff, the e-bike rental service at the mini market two next to the hotel (K5000 a day), good breakfast
Review 27:I arrived off the night bus at 5am and my bus wasn't ready. Ended up sleeping by the pool for a fee hours which was freezing at this time of year. luckily a cleaner took pity on me and gave me a blanket and towel for a pillow.
Review 28:The hotel is clean and comfortable and in a decent location. Only a ten minute walk from the restaurants and a decent bike hire place next door.
Review 29:- Air con is too small so the room is not so cold. - Quite far from market and restaurant. - No elevator. No good for senior people to stay at 2nd or 3rd floor. - Food a bit expensive from outside restaurant (some double price).
Review 30:- The room is the most comfortable. - Nice breakfast. - Good hotel staff for servicing.
Review 31:There was a rather jarring noise from the water heater every now and then, but they said it would be fixed soon.
Review 32:The staff were very kind and helpful and the free breakfast was decent.
Review 33:Some staff need training in term of organization. We had booked 4 rooms and It was a mess when they had no idea which bags are for which room and didn't ask.
Review 34:New and clean hotel. Staff were friendly and polite. 10 minutes walk to all the restaurants. Breakfast was really good.
Review 35:Location is good, the facilities in the hotel excellent! The hotel has a pool as well ! Staff really friendly and helpful, we were allowed to checkin at 5 am already when we arrived. The room is spacious and really clean. Big bathroom and hot shower were a plus as well. We also really enjoyed the included breakfast every morning.
Review 36:Matras was too hard, couldn't sleep on the side - both shoulder and hips hurt from sleeping. But my husband was fine with it:) Overall we would definitely recommend this hotel!
Review 37:Smooth check-in, at first they didn't have a twin bedroom available, so let us in a double bedroom - 10 minutes later they knocked on the door and there was a clean, nice twin bedroom for us. Great and beautiful bathroom! Nice to relax at the pool (not green at all as others stated). They let us use the pool in the afternoon after check-out; great service. Breakfast was good, more Asian options than Western, but they had brown bread :). Very service-minded, friendly staff!
Review 38:Nothing, although I would suggest something to hang your clothes in the showers near the pool so they don't get wet ;).
Review 39:A nice, clean and comfortable hotel.
Review 40:The rubbish bin was not cleared upon check in. In general was alright.
Review 41:Staff was friendly and approachable. Able to communicate in English. Good wifi access.
Review 42:We booked a garden view, double bed room. When we arrived check in was so slow, had screen shots of booking on phone but staff insisted we went online. Hotel wifi not working. We finally get keys and go to our garden view room, open the door and there's someone in the room. We then get taken to the restaurant to sit while we wait for a new room. No water offered, we asked and got told no, very unhelpful and rude. We finally get a new key 45mins since we arrived. Go to thr room and we now have a view on the bins osutside and twin beds. (not ideal for a young couple) fter going to reception twice we get told "no space" we'll try to do something tomorrow. That's great but they no we were only there one day. Asked to speak to manager, were told to wait in room. Manager never showed. Such a shame as hotel looks good but no one has any training or systems in place and very rude. Not my overall experience of Myanmar.
Review 43:The place is clean and bathrooms beautiful.
Review 44:The air con isn't working on our first night and we had to change room on the second day. The breakfast was normal. Receptionists' english level is very limited and not well trained.
Review 45:The room is very spacious and clean. Location is very good.
Review 46:Beware of their dormitories . To save money, they often place two persons of different sex in a double room , do not notify you nor let you see the room without you paid with your credit card. Staff try to do their best but the hotel doesnt assume its responsabilities. (They lost something and didnt offer any solution) Not serious for a hotel which pretends to western standards.
Review 47:Nice hotel well equiped with swimming pool. Very abundant breakfast
Review 48:The hotel is a 10 or so minute walk to restaurant. The first part of the street is unlit so can feel a little scary if you are a single female. Lesson learned - take your flashlight and all is good!
Review 49:A bit of luxury for little cost since I stayed in the advertised dormitory. I booked in a 4-bed dorm room but ended up in a 2-bed dorm room. The staff were all professional and polite, helping when they could. For the most part, very good English skills. Breakfast was tasty and filling. Having a swimming pool added a lot to the experience.
Review 50:A bit far from the restaurants at night. Hard to see in the dark at times without a torch. Would have liked a dining are outside, don't like inside restaurant.
Review 51:I liked the very helpful service, the breakfast, the pool and the room. Lovely terrace by the pool.
Review 52:Laundry was crazy expensive, but we had it done down the road for less than a tenth of the price. Staff was also overly optimistic about how soon our room would be ready, an estimate of 45 mins vs. an actual wait of three hours (which was never communicated). Not the end of the world but annoying when all you can think of is a bed! Internet very flaky towards end of stay.
Review 53:We got our room well before the stated check-in time. Staff were also helpful with booking of onward travel, with pickup from hotel. Hotel also arranged bicycles (but at quite a premium). Very nice breakfast buffet.
Review 54:We're in generally very easy-going travelers, but It was such an ordeal to check in at this hotel. Besides Burmese, both receptionists at day shift and night shift barely speak any other languages. We each had to give them our reservations twice, and instead of looking it up on their computer, they had to write everything down four times! It literally took them 1.5 hrs to check us in. Also, agreed by one of the receptionists, one of our friends paid extra and upgrade his room, yet booking.com came back to us says the hotel informed them a no-show, and made us paid for a penalty! I'd advise against renting motorbikes or E-bikes from the hotel, as most of them are not in great condition, you can easily find better bikes at nearby places for cheaper prices.
Review 55:Location is pretty decent, lots of temples near by.
Review 56:Your reception staff, we arrived at around 7pm, the lady at thereception is rude, your credit card machine is spoil and we did told herthat the amount that we book is in sgd and she should look at the Usd atthe below of booking confirmation, we keep repeat that the amount on thetop is sgd but she swipe our credit card with wrong amount of usd, thenshe told us that she voided but there isn't any void transaction, then we give her another credit card to swipe but due to your creditcard spoilt hence she told us that she will refund us in usd for exceedamount. During this whole incident, she is rude, we are educated peoplewhich we understand the frustration of the spoilt credit card machinehowever she keep repeating please wait for 7times...please wait waitplease wait please wait please wait please wait please wait please wait...we are oversea customer which we also worries the transaction is notvoid so we request for a void transaction when we present another creditcard, I felt sad for your company that having such lousy customerservice reception lady with no smile at her face...I Can tell you yourservice is suck.
Review 57:Location which is convenient
Review 58:Hard mattress, staff seemed a bit preoccupied with other things although did help as much as they could.
Review 59:Clean and good choice for breakfast. Bit expensive for myanmar
Review 60:The receptionists there really can't speak much English, it was extremely difficult to communicate with them. It literally took them an hour to sort out our reservations to check us in. The hotel agreed to let our friend paid extra to upgrade his room, and the next thing is that we are informed by booking.com that we failed to show up thus the hotel charged us penalty for no show! The e-bikes at hotel are not in a good shape.
Review 61:Location was quite good, rooms are quite clean.
Review 62:location isn't very central if you ride a bike its not a problem at all, but if you walk back to the hotel in the evening its very dark around and even Myanmar is safe i didn't feel good don't rent bikes in the hotel, right next door you can grab a better bike (and cheaper) no buffet for guests from shared room (you can choose only between asian and american breakfast) i mean its fine, but you're like telling your customers you're cheap, guys (btw the price for a bed in dormitory is literally half of double room price - so not fair at all for solo travelers)
Review 63:super comfy bed very clean spacious room swimming pool breakfast included
Review 64:Booking via booking.com mandatory as they quote much higher rates at the desk.
Review 65:Nice, quite new hotel. Therefore not in the lonely planet. worth to stay. Enjoyed it a lot.
Review 66:After traveling in Myanmar for almost a week, we had become accustomed to their wonderful hospitality - until we got to this hotel. The front office woman was completely rude with us, even blatantly refusing to help translate for us. It was shocking and no matter how nice the hotel, poor hospitality will not get you far. Also, the mattress is one step up from sleeping on the floor - rock hard.
Review 67:The hotel was modern and clean. Had a large bathroom with hot water and toiletries. Wifi surprisingly worked well. Location was a little farther out, but no big deal in the bigger picture.
Review 68:I love this hotel mainly because of the warmly staff. They're always there when I need something. And the location is great so near Shwe Si Gone Pagoda and the market.
Review 69:Staff has no clue how to do anything besides noting down Booking reservation number. They could not do anything about my request. Manager was on holiday.
Review 70:Good price.
Review 71:Arrived quite early in the morning and the receptionist didn't really understand a word english. Due to the fact that a lot of guests arrive with the early bus in Bagan it would be helpful if there was someone to communicate with
Review 72:Nice Spot to start exploring amazing Bagan. Staff was super friendly and kind. Rooms were simple but very clean.
Review 73:We had workers just outside our window on the first floor, therfore we had to leave the curtains down. The bathroom was made in a way that the water was getting stocked in the middle. It was like having a private pool. Also booked in this hotel for the big sharing swimming pool but it was so dirty that we didn't use it and when I told the staff about it, they laughed. A joke! The staff is certainly not the most friendly in myanmar, we were quite disappointed in the end
Review 74:Decent breakfast but the staff can ask you ten times if you'd like some more coffee. A bit annoying in the end. Good Internet connection.
Review 75:Good location for the beginning of your exploration. Staff is helpful and extremely friendly. Breakfast excellent, if not on the buffet they accommodate all your morning dining wishes :). Room was very clean and comfortable. Wi-fi fast enough. Guys you are doing a great job :)!
Review 76:It is near market and famous Shwe Si Gone Pagoda. Staffs are really polite anssd helpful. And there's the pool to get rest. And the cost is really nice.
Review 77:- staff was sometimes confused, didnt help out with suggestions - choice of two breakfast offers (American or Chinese)
Review 78:- swimming pool - hotel is well located; building/interior is nice - After checkout i was allowed to use swimming pool and shower
Review 79:Don't rent e-bikes from this hotel, they're pretty low quality (uncomfortable, and have no mirrors or tail lights and barely any headlights). Rent from the shop on the food street and your butt will thank you by the end of the day!
Review 80:The hotel is really nice. The staff, though nervous to converse and answer questions, end up being helpful and sweet in the end. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was quite decent as well.
Review 81:Ridiculously overpriced laundry service and minibar. Mini bus they booked us on to inlay was older and cramped compared to other companies. Room price too high. Pool very small, didn't bother going in it.
Review 82:Large room with good monsoon shower. Free toileteries and ok breakfast. Very attentive staff.
Review 83:Disgusting slow slow wifi which tends not to work even when having signal =/
Review 84:Friendly Staff, Great Breakfast. Conveniently next door to bicycle rental. Special mention to staff THEIN ZAW, who was nice enough to let us stay one free night having arrived from Monywa after a 10 hours ride. Thank!
Review 85:Staffs are useless so we had to book tours and bikes elsewhere. Atm in the hotel was just for show and room service price was insane.
Review 86:Fancy-like hotel in decent location.
Review 87:1. Definitely the noise from the construction 2. Out of order swimming pool (water in the pool was green!) 3. Less local atmosphere/ experience though it's local hotel 4. Breakfast in door @ 2nd floor (not out door) 5. Weak business network for example, Taxi for airport pick up arranged by Royal bagan hotel was quite expensive as almost 2 times more than normal
Review 88:Staffs were kind and willing to help me but I couldn't meet the manager who should be responsible for the situation.
Review 89:Terrible wifi, desk staff not very well-informed. They're good-natured but don't know their stuff. Breakfast alone is worth it, however.
Review 90:Breakfast experience is quite good for Myanmar.
Review 91:All we asked was for the front desk to notify us when our free bus shuttle arrived. Instead, they sent the shuttle away without telling us. When, a half hour later, we asked the front desk if our shuttle had arrived. They laughed, said "no problem", and made us pay big for a private taxi (their friend?) to rush us to our now-late-because-of-us bus to Yangon. Zero wifi. Even in far more remote areas of Myanmar, the wifi would at least work late at night. Very hard bed. Exorbitant mini bar prices. Shower water did not drain, so the room smelled awful and musty after the first day.
Review 92:The murky pool was nice for cooling off, but we wouldn't put our heads in the dirty water and always showered right afterward. The AC worked well.
Review 93:Pool was great but didn't look too clean. Too many waitstaff at dining.
Review 94:Excellent service especially from reception staff. Really good breakfast buffet. Great value for money.
Review 95:The room had a faint smell of bathroom cleansers, and had some mosquitoes we swatted for about half an hour. The bathroom was very spacious, but didn't have a separation between shower and the rest, which is similar to hotels we stayed in in Yangon. A mild inconvenience is their credit card machine was not able to connect to their server so we had to pay cash.
Review 96:The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and they were able to arrange e-bike rentals for us. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. After a hard, hot day trekking around Bagan, it was so great to come back to a cold room. The hotel is very new, and in comparison to other hotels we saw driving around Bagan (New Bagan, Old Bagan, Nyaung U), this is by far the best looking hotel.
Review 97:Pool looks dirty but i am not shure the water is green... And Wi-Fi , i know is a country problem but at weather spoon restaurant is much better!! But i recommend this hotel really nice place!!
Review 98:Amazing staff, big and confortable room, great breakfast, ask for a omelet is delicious, good location, they provide a bus ticket to Yangon for me and everything was ok!
Review 99:The pool was turning green when we arrived and it wasn't cleaned until we left, so cleanliness of pool wasn't great and it looks bad for the hotel so they should deal with this problem faster next time as it wasn't really safe to swim and people are paying for a pool.
Review 100:Very comfortable room, good air-con, so pleasant we extended our stay. They gave us an early check in which was really appreciated! Great selection at breakfast.
Review 101:No shower curtain so the entire bathroom is a mess when you take a shower.
Review 102:The location was good, close to the local market and about a 10min walk to the restaurant street. Rooms are a good size and beds are comfortable. Breakfast is great and the selection changes on a daily basis. Staff are helpful even though their English is not very good.
Review 103:They accept cards, but in my four days stay the device simply couldn't work. Hot shower not ok in the first floor. Third floor with hot water, but with a very annoying sound all night long, maybe from the water system. Location not that good, a few blocks (in the darkness) from the restaurant street.
Review 104:Breakfast very good. Staff very good, very attentive.
Review 105:Unfortunately the smell of sewage, emanating from the bathroom, pervaded the room. The window, which could be opened and thus cleaned, was covered with bird dropping during our entire stay. Would have been easy enough to clean, especially considering that 3-4 people were involved in cleaning our room. Pool also could have been maintained better, i.e. leaves and other plant matter removed, which would have made it more inviting. WIFI was overall very poor, except for brief surges every hour or two.
Review 106:Staff was very nice and breakfast was great.
Review 107:the bed was pretty hard, no wifi in the room, poor English and knowledge of reception desk staff
Review 108:the bathroom and shower are great. also breakfast buffet was good.
Review 109:As everywhere in Myanmar Wifi doesn't work very well away from the reception. Also this is not a cozy guesthouse, there is not much personal touch.
Review 110:It's quiet and very clean. The staff was friendly and helpful when needed. you can rent bicycles right next to it to visit the temples
Review 111:the staff at the reception was not really well trained and thus quite often not of big help.
Review 112:the rooms inkl. bathrooms were pretty nice and staff in the dining room was super friendly. the breakfast had a good variety.
Review 113:Looks ok on the pictures, but the place was not very clean, Very dusty and had a strange smell to it. Paper thin walls made for a bad nights sleep because of the never ending traffic outside and people shouting in the hallways.
Review 114:The 2nd floor is newly built and still drying. Guests have to inhale building chemicals all night long (I had asthma), the smell in the bathroom (also on the 1st floor, 2nd night) makes you throw up. The water in the pool is milky! This place needs to be torn down again. It will never properly work. Too many building mistakes have been made.
Review 115:As everywhere in Myanmar, the staff is extremely helpful. However you cannot expect 17 year old people to fix problems which have been made on management/owner level. No attempt was made to compensate.
Review 116:The staff was almost helpless. We needed help with few issues, and they could just not get it right. Poor english did not help unfortunately, eventually everything worked out ok, but we just could not rely on them. It is also a little far from all the sites and quite pricey.
Review 117:The place is new, very clean, well kept, and the room was quite big. Toilet was nice, spacious shower, hot water, and the breakfast was pretty decent for Myanmar standards, fresh juices, a wide selection of food, ok coffee.
Review 118:don't have bathrobe
Review 119:1. Brand new hotel 2. Location - close to Nyaung U market where you can easily find horse car & e-bike 3. Nice staffs 4. Clean
Review 120:The staff spoke no english at all. There was no comfortable chairs at the swimming pool. The Hotel is new, but they already had troubles with the bathrooms (was wet all the time).
Review 121:The breakfast was good.
Review 122:We will never recommend this hotel to anyone. The beds were very hard, we eventually used towels to put under the sheets so it was a bit more comfortable. The hotel was not finished yet, so there was a lot of noise from the construction. Likewise there was no warm water (only 2 min or so if we were lucky). If we wanted to go to the pool every worker was watching me and my girlfriend. Although, the location seems good, it is still a distance from the street in Nyaung U where all the restaurants are. We complained about the hotel to booking.com, they answered that the hotel gave them all the details and that there was enough water. Their add was based on details booking.com received from the hotel, this was thus incorrect information. Booking.com however still thinks the best way is to believe their hotels and not the customers who complain, very disappointing response.
Review 123:Rooms were small and underwhelming for a mid budget hotel. The water was barely ever hot and the wifi was non existent despite their being 5 different hubs. The staff were grudgingly helpful and mostly seemed to be happy to just say no. When I was given two hand towels in the room, I requested larger or more towels to shower with, and was told they didn't have any. For a mid budget hotel, I expected better service.
Review 124:The pool was small but quaint and the atmosphere was good. Breakfast was also varied and had a good mix of western and Myanmar offerings.
Review 125:The staff were very friendly
Review 126:nice room with good facilities
Review 127:Poor staff communication. Lack of English.
Review 128:Pool. Luxury dorm
Review 129:the service is good, the receptionists at night are so nice and friendly and helpful, especial Ryan...
Review 130:No bar to have a quick drink after a long day
Review 131:Good location
Review 132:Ridiculously expensive laundry service.
Review 133:Very clean. Not far from restaurants and e-bike places. Breakfast - choice of local dishes or toast.
Review 134:there is no rooftop as mentioned in the description!!!
Review 135:The hotel is clean and quiet and the staff is very friendly.
Review 136:Too expensive
