Reviews for Hotel Diplomat Stockholm
Review 1:No tea or coffee making facilities in the room, and room service overpriced even for Stockholm. Weirdly loud and inappropriate music in foyer and bar. Bath very small. Didn't eat breakfast as was £19. Again, this seems expensive even in an expensive city .
Review 2:The view from our room (402) was stunning, definitely worth paying a little extra for. Room tastefully furnished, bed extremely comfortable. Building itself very lovely and in fantastic location in central Stockholm and close to all transport etc. we found staff to be friendly and helpful.
Review 3:We paid for an extra bed but got a very thin sofa bed. The room was big so why not put in a proper extra bed in which you could actually turn around during the night? Also I think that when you are 3 paying guests in a room the hotel could supply one more bottle of shampoo and shower gel?
Review 4:View from restaurant. Nice old lift although it was tricky to get it to work at first.
Review 5:This is not a terrific place to stay if you are trying to get work done. The wifi is slowslowslow and the lobby, a very popular gathering place for locals, is loud and crowded. The reception area is quite small and the great bulk of the lobby is given over to the restaurant and bar. The popularity of the restaurant extends to breakfast on weekends, prompting the management to post a sign encouraging guests to get to breakfast early to avoid crowds. They would do well to reserve an area of the restaurant for guests who wish to sleep in a bit. The price of breakfast is not included in the room price -- and it's expensive and not really worth it. There's a small cafe a few steps down the street where the coffee is good and the pastries are delicious.
Review 6:The Diplomat is a lovely hotel with an exceptionally fine staff: well trained, courteous, attentive. My single room was a good, comfortable size with a pleasant courtyard view.
Review 7:The location is great. When we checked in our room was not cleaned when we got to it, the staff was very responsive to this and upgraded us to a junior suite which was probably the best room I've ever stayed in.
Review 8:staff at breakfast.. the girl on the bar is very rude - coffee pot was empty, asked for an espresso, she refused.. asked to refill the big coffee pot, she said to wait!! this kind of rudeness makes you really unhappy in that kind of a hotel.. room was overpricy - we were looking to airconditions and other apartments in the end..
Review 9:location, bar & restaurant area of the hotel
Review 10:Perfect size hotel, great location, good restaurant and attentive staff. Also small upstairs bar for private meetings. Beautiful views if your room overlooks the water.
Review 11:The room temperature is controlled centrally and the thermostat in the room does nothing. I like to control the temp in my room.
Review 12:Nice clean friendly and helpful.
Review 13:N/A
Review 14:I love the location of this hotel. as you have a fantastic view of pier area when you walk out of the hotel. And the location is also great and convenient to access all the shopping and tourism spot in the city. It is truly a wonderful place to stay if you only have few days in Stockholm. adore this hotel a lot! the architecture also stands out.
Review 15:Nothing really, but it seems quite expensive. Well, it's Stockholm after all...
Review 16:Excellent breakfast, comfortable beds, attentive staff, try to get a room with a view over the port.
Review 17:Only thing we did not like was lack of tea and coffee making facilities in room. Morning tea from room service, £16 for two!!
Review 18:Brilliant location and buzzing hotel
Review 19:The location was amazing, we had a huge room with a great view. Loved the breakfast if not a little pricey, but this is Stockholm. The building was beautiful and ornate inside and loved the old lift and spiral staircase.
Review 20:Reception and restaurant staff fantastic. Restaurant delicious- best dinner ever. Breakfast waffles to die for at breakfast buffet. Expensive but very very good. Can walk to many sights.
Review 21:Unfortunately, there were no coffee facilities in the room.
Review 22:An excellent location that was not busy yet was close to all. The food in the restaurant excellent.
Review 23:Having to re-enter ID and code every time using Wifi Room keys regularly a problem not working at elevator No breakfast with room
Review 24:Location Character
Review 25:Staff weren't too friendly and could have been more informative and helpful. Bathroom was small and very basic.
Review 26:Good location, easy to access. Lovely view over water.
Review 27:No coffee/tea kettle in the room. The wi-fi was a bit unstable. The TV kept losing the signal (it's fixed by rebooting - ask the technician how to do it, if you have this problem).
Review 28:Perfect location: easy walk to Gamla Stan, Djurgården and the city center; about 5 min walk to the subway. The room ("Superior Double or Twin Room") was very cozy and quiet, with a balcony and a beautiful view to the bay. Great breakfast. The staff was super helpful and friendly. On our departure, the receptionist even went with us outside to make sure that we get the right taxi.
Review 29:Only 1 very small lift for all guests but you can always use the stairs.
Review 30:Everything!! Comfortable, clean, quiet room with excellent facilities. Superb location, superb breakfast. Would happily stay here again.
Review 31:The location of this hotel was perfect, it was within walking distance to all we wanted to see. I loved the way that old and modern were combined in the hotel to provide a luxurious experience. The staff were excellent.
Review 32:Rooms didn't have view on harbour, that was bad. Also, breakfast was not included and cost 250 kroner per person!
Review 33:Good location. Great design, very old-fashioned and feels classic. Loved the elevator. We requested an electric kettle in the room and was granted.
Review 34:I booked a small double room but it was more like large single room. The shower was disappontingly small, I have had better in lower starred hotels
Review 35:Good location
Review 36:Overall we enjoyed our stay but we did not like that the restaurant at breakfast is very crowded and the food selection is rather poor for an upscale Hotel like this one. Not a single wow-factor. The people at the front desk were nice. The main hall, definitely not a "wow". A cleaning lady with an Electrolux asking if we need help with the luggage. Not any more, we just brought it in. Nice dinner outside but food selection made us look for different venues the following days. It was OK while we thought it would be grand. Some construction in the hallway. Well, welcome to Europe.
Review 37:The view from the window and the balcony, as expected. Till we realized that we are really in a bit remote location from the Old Town. But OK. From the outside, the Hotel does look "wow".
Review 38:The room was advertised as having a view only to find it looked at the building next door. Very disappointed! The bath was chipped didn't use it.
Review 39:The location that's all.
Review 40:Beautiful hotel in perfect location. Views of the water are fabulous, and all major sights are within walking distance. We stayed in a renovated room overlooking the water, so both interior of room and view were superior. Hotel staff was extremely helpful, always willing to help. Breakfast was outstanding.
Review 41:I had a bad experience sitting outside (enjoying a cup of coffee) and being 'targeted' by a man of Eastern European stature. He sat in one of the two chairs opposit the elevator when I checked out and followed me to my car when I got my luggage settled to drive home. The hotel should be made aware that their guests may be addressed by unwanted persons (beggars).
Review 42:The ambiance, the staff .... and the oldfashioned lift. Also the setting so close to the water and the older part of town
Review 43:Unfortunately no air conditioning. WiFi weak, and requires to log-in regularly.
Review 44:Breakfast and Dinner excellent. Very friendly staff. Good location for harbours, old town, and shopping areas.
Review 45:Staff will only do what needful and would not make any extra effort to fulfill your desires. They charged us double for they stay when we checked in and half was not refunded until one week later. If you plan to order obly drinks even if it is the most expensive champagne do not think you will get any extra attention. You have to go and order it yourself and carry it out to the terrace yourself which if you have a few glasses ashtray be prepaid to go a few times back and forward carrying it all by yourself. For being an upmarket hotel the service level offered is very disappointing and we regret spending a lot of money in their restaurant.
Review 46:Location is perfect, close to all attractions in Stockholm. bed and room comfortable. Breakfast fresh and well prepared.
Review 47:Price for a continental breakfast was outrageous given ordering a la carte was not available.
Review 48:Staff really helpful and friendly. Location amazing. Room well appointed. Enjoyed lunch, dinner and drinks at the restaurant.
Review 49:Bookings.com only booked a room for 1, instead is 2 - there were additional charges incurred at my check-in because I needed to upgrade beyond a twin size bed. This was frustrating. The room was extremely small and the staff was not very friendly. Breakfast was an additional charge. I was not pleased in using your website.
Review 50:Location
Review 51:The location was terrific as we could walk to all the main attractions. The bar area outside is a real plus......afternoon sun, people watching, harbor across the street! Good breakfast, too.
Review 52:A couple of times we found that the elevator did not respond to our summons, due to the last user having failed to close the outer door. I strongly recommend that you install a device to ensure each outer door closes; this should not be too difficult.
Review 53:Everybody was friendly and helpful at the hotel, and very willing to answer questions. We liked the food, and we found the waitressing exceptionally good. the
Review 54:For our liking the breakfast room was too bus and nosy - we would have wished for something more cosy and comfortable.
Review 55:What we most appreciated was the friendliness of the staff and the wonderful location of the hotel.
Review 56:Had some minor problems with billing. Front desk staff seemed undertrained to deal with the issue. I was overcharged when I checked it, but the staff member caught the mistake. She said she could not fix the problem herself but I should return the next morning and speak to the manger. I did that, and was told it would be handled at checkout. At checkout, I explained the situation to the only person there, a trainee, and she did not correctly refund the amount due me. I am sure that I will get this cleared up eventually but I was disappointed that the staff were not able to take care of this minor error on site.
Review 57:The room was beautiful and very comfortable. The staff was helpful. The location was perfect for sightseeing.
Review 58:The gym was closed for refurbishment during our stay.
Review 59:The staff were very helpful and friendly. Excellent service and food. Our bedroom was quiet, very comfortable and had a lovely view of the seafront.
Review 60:My room on first floor near cocktail bar which was noisey at night , and near lounge area where lots of morning conferences .
Review 61:Location of hotel and friendly staff
Review 62:Very welcoming, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, supernice interior.. The room was cosy and clean and the restaurant was fantastic (we had the sunday roast steak).
Review 63:The only slight disappointment was the gym was closed, but there was free entry to one about five minutes away.
Review 64:The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and very clean as was the bathroom, which had lovely fluffy towels. The breakfast was yummy with plenty of choice.
Review 65:The location of this hotel is superb. We did not have to get a cab or bus once. The staff were extremely helpful and the view from our room was really good. Overall, I could not fault this hotel
Review 66:Norwegian airlines going on strike and us loosing q night stay at the diplomat which we paid for:( .
Review 67:Comfort great for exploring Stockholm and yummy breakfast!
Review 68:The tv/entertainment system was one of the worst I have ever encountered. Completely unintuitive and flawed. It rebooted at least three times per evening. Did I say unintuitive?
Review 69:I had a very disapointing room facing the side of another building. However after raising my concerns I was moved to much nicer/brighter room for my second night.
Review 70:Very friendly service
Review 71:200 sek per night was booked on my card in case of room service or minibar. It's not a problem, but it wasn't mentioned on booking.com
Review 72:Everything was very good, the hotel itself is situated in a nice building, location is excellent. I stayed at Hotel Diplomat in winter but it was very comfortable inside.
Review 73:Bathroom very small and a bit basic No true aircon Access poor up and down steps with no assistance available. Entrance area dark and unwelcoming
Review 74:View Location Wifi
Review 75:Check-in was efficient but not particularly friendly and it would be helpful if the staff explained how to use the elevator, which seems on first glance to be out of service.
Review 76:The private spa was a great experience. Restaurant was lovely and breakfast buffet was perfect. Room was spacious and loved the high ceilings. Perfect location.
Review 77:the duvet is made of polyester - impossible to sleep because it's too hot. staff at reception helpful but incredibly cheeky no one to help with luggage breakfast is like being in an overcrowded train bed very very soft
Review 78:Bathroom really outdated. Small room and proces too high for a hotel that is still trying to lean on their reputation 5 years ago. Hotel needs a renovation.
Review 79:Room was clean. Free hour of wellness was nice
Review 80:Wifi kept dropping out Tiny room for the price 70 rooms and a lift that holds 3 people - also its an old style lift so if someone does not close the door properly it won't work.
Review 81:Clean Friendly staff Nice restaurant
Review 82:Only one elevator and 6 floors is a problem and we had to walk the stairs many times. The elevator malfuntion at times. The breakfast room is far to small for a decent breakfast with full house and many had to wait for a table. Treated as a criminal by the guards to the bar entrance when returning after a dinner outside. Had to show I was a guest of the hotel. Very bad. The hotel need refurbishment.
Review 83:The location is perfect.
Review 84:I read about the crowded breakfast room but couldn't imagine that it was that crowded. Having breakfast in this room is far from fun even if the breakfst itself was OK. Personnel doesn't even bring a coffee to you ...
Review 85:perfect location and nice building but very small rooms
Review 86:Broken furniture and lamp in my superior room with sea view. Had to wait 20 minutes to get seated for breakfast and then had to sit in the reception area... Ice-cold bathroom and nowhere to put your make-up etc The room in need of renovation (painting etc) Will never stay there again and do not, frankly, recommend it unless you regard it as a three star hotel; but then a bit pricey....
Review 87:Great location Excellent breakfast
Review 88:Room was a bit small, as was the shower, for a tall man - 6'6".
Review 89:Loved the charm of the old mixed with the upscale location and restaurant. The service at the front desk and the cleanliness of the room were impressive. Loved the elevator!
Review 90:The cost came out air higher than was quoted on booking. Com due to the exchange rate. We asked for twin beds but got double beds in both rooms-I don't actually think the rooms would fit twin beds as they are very small. The service at the bar was slow and they did not serve tads outside- you had to go in and purchase drinks at the bar.
Review 91:Located right on the water near great shops and bars.
Review 92:All in all a very disapppointing three night stay for me and my family at what is considered one of Stockholm's top notch hotels. I had expected to spend a lovely and relaxing weekend in a luxurious environment, instead I spent the weekend asking for what I had already payed for and feeling very frustrated at not getting value for my money.I had asked for a room with a bathtub which we didn't get upon arrival. When I inquired in the reception to change to a room with a bathtub, not per initiative from the hotel, but our initative. This was the first disappointment. The last night of our three night stay we were relocated to a new room, for the sole purpose of getting a room with a bath - it did not have one. Again, the receptionist was at a blank and did not offer any type of compensation. We asked to be compensated and finally were offered the breakfast for free. Also the room we stayed in for the two first nights was situated above the restaurant. Friday-night seemed to host a night club just beneath our room and we suffered badly from the thumping sound of club music until 1 am in the morning. We called the reception to ask when the music would be lowered and they apologized at first and promised it would end "soon". After midnight we called again and another receptionist told us that we seemed "sensitive" and questioned the fact that we heard the music in our room.We approached management the next day and were promised to be compensated for our lack of sleep and lack of bath. We were given 300 SEK to spend in the bar (we were a company of three) and a new room the last night that didn't have the bath we had requested from the start. All in all, a very disappointing experience at this hotel. Comparing to other high end hotels I have stayed in during the last year I must say that service was below standard.
Review 93:The hotel is situated very conveniently in the city of Stockholm, close to shops and sights. Nice breakfast, with fresh juices, lovely bread and good ambiance.
Review 94:The room cost us 510 euro for two nights, it was a special treat for my mother, we were put in a room beside the toilets on the first floor, this really annoyed me. We were never asked if the room was ok, . bathroom was small and some little things like one of the lights not working.
Review 95:The tv, the bed was comfortable, the location is excellent. Great breakfast, the staff are friendly but they never ask how things are you need to engage the conversation.
Review 96:There were limited toilets in the bar area and there was often a queue at busy times. I found this odd for a hotel of this quality but this seemed the norm in other bars/restaurants. Other than that no fault.
Review 97:This was a fab hotel, great location. Walking distance to the old town. THe staff were lovely. The bar area is nice for a drink, good buzz in the place. The hotel restaurant had fab food, we ate lunch there and the breakfast had a good range of options. I would stay here again.
Review 98:Like everything in Sweden it felt to a Brit expensive. Our room didn't have the best of views, overlooking courtyard with scaffolding all around.
Review 99:Central location. Helpfulness & friendliness of staff. Lovely restaurant not at all "hotelly", but buzzy with excellent food, and with tables outside on pavement overlooking water an added bonus. Breakfast also very good. Our room (superior) was airy, bed linen silky and bathroom modern, clean and more than adequate.
Review 100:There were some lapses in terms of cleanliness of the mattress. Someone was a bit sloppy about vacuming body hair remaining on the bed from a prior visit.
Review 101:Outstanding view, nice small balcony, comfortable bed, quiet room despite being next to the elevator, outstanding restaurant, pleasant knowledgeable and helpful staff.
Review 102:No complaints at all
Review 103:Very spacious room, cot ready and waiting for us upon arrival, child appropriate linen and teddy included. Staff friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, excellent service. Went the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable and relaxing even with a young baby. Highly recommend this hotel. Have stayed 6 times and will definitely stay again. Location perfect- easy walk to everything.
Review 104:This was the second time we had stayed at the Diplomat and it was good to find the welcome, service and high standards were maintained making for another enjoyable stay. Our room was well appointed and came with a wonderful view of Stockholm and its waterway. The staff were polite, helpful and most accommodating. Breakfast was from an extensive buffet with a good range and of high quality. The hotel is central to many of Stockholm's attractions and the staff were more than helpful in providing advice and guidance. We particularly enjoyed the restaurant which is also popular with the locals, so make sure you book ahead. Altogether a great hotel in a fabulous location.
Review 105:No swimming pool and only 1 lift
Review 106:Receptionists all smiled and were cheerful and the same applied to the Bar staff Really good breakfasts Although in a busy area suprisingly tranquil
Review 107:We did not always appreciate their choice of music, but then we are very square and at least it was not loud. As we left we were taken in by a bandit taxi which we thought was the one ordered by the hotel but clearly was an opportunist who happened to arrive at that moment. I think in the absence of a doorman the desk staff should have told us to wait inside and informed us when the ordered taxi arrived.
Review 108:We liked the informality and the helpfulness of the staff. Also the excellent breakfasts. Bed and bathroom facilities first rate. Well ventilated and good lighting. Public area a bit limited but pleasant and comfortable. Altogether, a very convenient and comfortable hotel with a very nice feel to it.
Review 109:restaurant: poor menu, poor quality the TV suddenly broke down. they sent me someone to fix it. He tried & tried, & finally he said: 5 mins & I'll be back. No one showed back again. I spent the rest of my stay without TV.
Review 110:location internet smiling staff
Review 111:Very intrusive noise at night from loud repetitive music through sometimes until 5am. Noise insulation needs improving significantly, and hotel should turn down its own public room music which is totally unnecessary.
Review 112:Harbour room views lovely, rooms themselves very nice, corner room 1st floor spacious, bed comfy, good showers and bathrooms etc Would want room on much higher floor if went again to avoid night time noise.
Review 113:New staff in the restautrant was nice, but should be more professional in taking orders, cleaning tables etc.
Review 114:feels like a home away from home. Excellent location.
Review 115:No a/c for hotel of this caliber and price Lack of varied food menu Inflexible for food options and dietary needs Limited selection of whiskey
Review 116:View (main reason stay) Service Location Access Overall very friendly and personal environment
Review 117:Carpet in room was stained and old looking. (But clean)Should be replaced. No bellman. Cool old elevator but a bit tricky figuring out how to use it. They should hire a bellman/elevator operator .... He would make a lot of tips! Took stairs many times (5th floor)
Review 118:Room was well thought out and had everything from iron to comfy robe and slippers. Bed was very comfortable. I had a twin/single bed and was surprised at its large size for a single. Nice tv.....refrigerator a nice plus....great closet space! Very nice and helpful staff. The hotel itself was very beautiful. Great location!
Review 119:The building needs major renovation. Poor window isolation, leading to disturbance from street noise. Just one elevator - impossible to catch it. We had to walk up and downstairs four floors carrying our own cases (no help provided).
Review 120:Beautiful location. Charming premises. Nice front-desk service. Lively bar and restaurant.
Review 121:No airco, but it was unseasonably hot in Stockholm that weekend. The hotel provided a fan and we felt much better
Review 122:Comfy beds, close to dining and shopping
Review 123:Could use fulltime help with getting suitcases from car to the room. The staff was helpful, but it took needed help from the desk (where other guests needed them) to get suitcases up to the room.
Review 124:Beautiful view from our room.
Review 125:did not replace soap, toiletries in 10 day stay. Down to a sliver of of soap by last day.. Kept forgetting to ask but this should be done without asking. No AC in the room, but due to high ceilings and position on waterfront, not really a problem in mid-summer with fan they provided. Some street traffic noise but drowned out by our fan and ocean sounds app on my phone!
Review 126:everything, we booked a waterfront double room. It was extremely comfortable and spacious. We would definitely stay again on our next trip there! The restaurant and T bar was great and convenient as well. Location is unsurpassed!
Review 127:Rooms with numbers ending in 02,03, and 04 have steps to toilet, bath and shower. Not convenient for those who have disabilities or get up at night to use the toilet.
Review 128:Location. Walking distance to many tourists sights including the VASA Museum and ABBA Museum, Royal Palace and well known department store, NK.
Review 129:It was just all good.
Review 130:The staff were fantastic. The exercise room was state of the art and clean. The restaurant was excellent and the room was amazing. Best hotel I stayed in in Scandinavia.
Review 131:The staff were very friendly and helpful, facilities were great, we used the sauna and jacuzzi which was clean and spacious, and the restaurant food was really good and popular with the locals too.
Review 132:Breakfast very expensive.
Review 133:Great location near all the sites including hop on hop off boat and bus. Bed linens to die for and extremely comfortable beds. Staff friendly and very helpful. View from our superior room of the harbor breathtaking.
Review 134:I liked everything....
Review 135:This was my 3rd time staying at the Hotel Diplomat. It is a very friendly hotel and the restaurant has an outstanding breakfast buffet. I will always return when I have the opportunity again.
Review 136:Perfect service. Perfect hideaway in Stockholm.
