Reviews for Museum Art Hotel

Review 1:Had to pay extra for wifi in the room - really, its 2016!! They need to move into the 20th century. That's like when you go to an expensive restaurant and find that the mains don't come with vegetables.

Review 2:Really good, great location, very interesting hotel. Breakfast was very good. Room was nice with a comfy bed. A little bit dated but it was fine by me.

Review 3:Added a night via booking.com before arrival, got confirmation but no record when we arrived. Sorted fine though...

Review 4:The location was amazing. We went to Te Papa every day, for different exhibits; ate great meals every night (4), all within a 10 minute walk; caught a movie at the Embassy; ran along water, used gym and pool. And the room, and then the apartment, were lovely. Vibe indescribaly quirky but terrific. Found this at last minute via Booking deal...so glad

Review 5:Air con didn't work first night but got it fixed for the next night, should have asked them to fix it earlier.

Review 6:A lovely hotel, wonderful art works and helpful staff. Te Papa just across the road.

Review 7:140km winds on the day of the wedding but none of us seemed to have a direct line upstairs to modify that!

Review 8:The staff looking after the car were just great. Every request was done a willingness and a smile. The location is just super. Just across from the the magnificent WW1 exhibition at Te Papa.

Review 9:My only comment would be is that because our room didn't have a opening window, the heat had built up, but the air con soon took care of that.

Review 10:I love everything about the Museum Hotel and have stayed there numerous times. The Décor is outstanding. The service is outstanding. The Hotels situation within the city makes it very easy for access by car or within walking distance of every major point.

Review 11:No free Wi-Fi

Review 12:The room was big, comfortable and full of creative sculptures and furniture. In general the hotel was really classy! Harbour, Te Papa and City Centre are in walking distance

Review 13:The hotel needs to provide free wi fi as a core service like so many other hotels we have stayed in in NZ and overseas

Review 14:unique hotel full of surprises. Loved the artwork and décor

Review 15:The room could have been a little more spacious though the bathroom was great. Still very happy with the room.

Review 16:A HOTEL that one wants to stay inside because the art just keeps unfolding - the more you look the more you see. Marvellous decor, helpful efficient staff.

Review 17:Concierge was talking on cell phone when we arrived and we had to bring our own bags in,put them on a trolley and take them to our room.

Review 18:The MV Augusta motorcycles and the interesting art work on display. Relaxed vibe about the place.

Review 19:No wifi in bedroom... how possible in 2015 Dark coridors, like in "Shinning" movie but in black (of course!) Balcony a wee worn.

Review 20:Very good restaurant. Excelent location. Art Deco everywhere in the hotel

Review 21:- For such a 'fancy' hotel, I am surprised that the wifi hardly worked and that I actually had to pay for it in my room! Welcome to 2015/2016.- Rude staff in the evenings - My friend came looking for me everywhere in the hotel (my phone did not work). Instead of just calling my room, the receptionist just asked her to go to the restaurant and look for me!

Review 22:Location was brilliant!

Review 23:For a Deluxe King Room: a cracked wall plug for coffeemaker;bathroom sink drained very slowly;very average set up in bathroom with cheap hardware; previous clients charger still plugged in beside bed.Not deluxe except the bed!

Review 24:The location, the lobby & surroundings! Staff are great.Bed was luxurious.

Review 25:Nothing.

Review 26:The restaurant is one of the best I've been to - excellent food, very attentive but not pushy staff, interesting decor. Highly recommended.

Review 27:Found the service to be poor for supposedly one of the best hotels in Wellington!! The fridge was noisy all night and the shower leaked water all over the bathroom floor!!

Review 28:The decor & ambiance of the hotel was good

Review 29:Not a bad experience, just a desire for the billiard room to be available to guests, not just for events.

Review 30:The grand plushness the unique feel of the furnishings, art, motorbikes. Not a chain hotel.

Review 31:The room was quite tired in that it was not like the ones in the pictures, it was less gorgeous and for the price we paid, it was a let down.

Review 32:The location was wonderful, the staff were fabulous and the view was great.

Review 33:Breakfast buffet was the same as all boring breakfasts worldwide - mushy eggs, bacon, tomato, hash browns, toast ....BORING. And they had run out of trim milk. A bit shocked to find that the sheets on the bed had not been changed from the previous client.

Review 34:Incredible. Live, eat, drink and relax in an amazing art gallery. Unique.

Review 35:The rooms are quite small and as the weather was quite mild and cool the hotel didn't provide extra blankets/duvet in the cupboard. As we booked with booking.com we had to pay an additional charge to access WIFI in our rooms and for late check-out. Not impressed and wouldn't recommend staying there again.

Review 36:The location of the hotel was very good, close to shops and restaurant district and waterfront glimpses.

Review 37:I had endless internet problems in my room in the apartment. The staff were sympathetic and very helpful but no-one was able to solve it. Consequently I was obliged to do all my business e-mail in the foyer! The room service breakfast was also not good; I expect better from a hotel of this kind.

Review 38:Location, decor, friendly and helpful staff, chanteuse in the foyer bar on Friday night.

Review 39:The Museum Art hotel is a funky hotel with very eclectic decor giving a cool vibe to the whole place. It's well positioned for restaurants and the city, has easy secure car parking ($20 per night), and a great restaurant (The Hippopotamus)

Review 40:The Wifi options were ambiguous and frustrating. I would have rather pay a little more upfront and have free wifi available all the time.

Review 41:The central location to the museums. Good flat walk to most attractions in central Wellington. Hotel had a great ambience. I liked the "Hippo" theme!

Review 42:Check in staff were efficient but not very friendly/warm when greeting us. This applied to both check in and check out experience.

Review 43:Concierge team were awesome, so fridenly and very helpful. Loved the high tea experience!

Review 44:Prefer 'real' coffee in the room - proper plunger gind - not a Robert Harris 'coffee bag' to go into the plunger (weak bleh !!) or from the in-room Nespresso capsule coffee (ugh !!). Paying up toward $300 / night I expected real milk not UHT - this is New Zealand after all !!

Review 45:bathroom shower bed pillows service

Review 46:Close to the city and theatres etc , easy parking for our vehicle, nice outlook over the harbour and we enjoyed your French wait staff in the bar who accommodated us so willingly when we could not get a seat in the restaurant at short notice - and then who remembered our choices when we returned the next night.

Review 47:I couldn't work out the air conditioning so a bit stuffy without windows that open. Not a great view over a carpark either!

Review 48:A fantastic and exciting lobby

Review 49:Tiles in bathroom, way too cold should have under floor heating.

Review 50:Loved our room, had a lovely balcony. Would have been great to have had a talel out there to have breakfast on it.

Review 51:Wifi cost. Wifi in all hotels should be free (or part of the room rate). Complete rip off. Will influence my decision to stay there again.

Review 52:Hippopotomas restaurant was excellent

Review 53:Stayed at a lot of places in the past, but Museum wins the prize for funky originality and classiness. It's busy and beautiful, mirrors, art and fabulous furnishings.

Review 54:Nothing I did not like

Review 55:I have stayed at most hotels in wellington and like this the most. Lovely bed . Lovely bath with bath Bomb. Good service and room service great.

Review 56:Harbour view from first floor was laughable. More like carpark view. room overpriced.

Review 57:Great hotel and don't miss Hippopotamus restaurant. which puts Auckland restaurants to shame

Review 58:This is the second stay here and the decor and staff are outstanding. The location is great with good restaurants in easy walking distance although you don't need to leave the building toell experience fine dinning

Review 59:Three rooms booked, all next to each other. The noise from restaurant extractor fan impacted on rest/sleep. First impressions of one room were a hole/worn carpet. Not good enough at this price. The windows were draughty. There was a need for a extra blanket, esp for those who don't like air conditioning. All three rooms ran out of hot water. Hair in one of the sinks. Following upgrade at management suggestion, one of rooms had a distinct smell of vomit. The previous occupant had vomited in the kitchen sink. Water was run, cleared smell for a bit. Son was tired of changes and put up with smell which was bad during the night. Baths had a candle, but no lighter. Symptomatic of appearances not meeting actual outcomes.

Review 60:manager listened to concerns and acted accordingly with an upgrade

Review 61:we thought the breakfasts were amazing, however we did not prefer our dinner experience. Being ordinary Kiwis we thought the experience pretentious.

Review 62:The location of the hotel was the best. We walked to most places we wanted to visit.

Review 63:We love the ambience and artwork, the room sizes and the location of the hotel. Every time we visit Wellington we spend a night or two in the Museum Hotel to recover from our international flights and slowly work our way back into NZ life. The hotel is not too small or too big, not too busy or too deserted - it's just right!

Review 64:Wifi in room does cost, free wifi available in lobby.

Review 65:Lovely and quiet with good insulation so no issues with hearing other guests. Artwork is very interesting. Staff very polite and helpful

Review 66:Rooms still outdated and need to be upgraded to reflect the public areas. Exterior looking very tired on seafront.

Review 67:Foyer fitout and museum feel unbeatable.

Review 68:We had to pay an additional $20 for an accessible bathroom. Considering check in is late - after 3pm and check out is 11am....cost is a bit high but worth the stay.

Review 69:staff that showed respect and remembered drinks and names. Loved the bed and the location

Review 70:Very sadly there was no hot water available for a bath/shower our first morning due to a ?boiler breakdown. The staff did offer to take us to an apartment when contacted but that left us with insufficient time for our morning's plans. I would strongly suggest that the housekeeping is inspected. Behind bed table/ bathroom mirror frames are very dusty and not up to expectation for this class of hotel

Review 71:Is a beautiful unique hotel with wonderful art and very professional friendly staff. Room was very pleasant and comfortable.

Review 72:I felt as if the bathrooms could have been cleaner. Grime in the grouting and under the handles of the tub were a turn off. Also the TV had issues for the whole time we were there. They offered a room change but it wasn't worth the hassle

Review 73:It was fairly cool in the room and there was no spare blanket, we used the towel's instead. As it was late we didn't want to make a bother.

Review 74:The location was perfect for this trip

Review 75:For the price of the room, free wifi in the rooms would have been good. The sheets were a bit cold for the time of year. There were not enough towel rails in the bathroom and the shower cabinet did not contain the water well.

Review 76:The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The hotel environment was delightful. We particularly enjoyed the eclectic art – wonderfully refreshing after the normal bland decoration found in most hotels.

Review 77:Just a query why are there no sky children channels we had two young children in the apartments and it would have been good when we got back in the early evening to let the 3 and 5 year old watch TV for half an hour but no children's movies or channels

Review 78:Enjoyed the location and the hotel lovely place

Review 79:The sheets had a small tear at a seam, and at breakfast (8.30am) I ordered the crepes, to be told they had run out.

Review 80:The décor was amazing! Loved the art work! Had ocean views!!!

Review 81:Our room was rather on the small side for the price. While the decor was attractive more space would have been desirable for the expense.

Review 82:Loved the lobby, really interesting and different.

Review 83:I was there on business so I needed access to the internet. There wasn't free Wi-Fi so I had to go to the lobby to access the free Wi-Fi all hours of the night, as I was at a conference during the day! A bit annoying but at least the coffee shop is open 24 hours a day!!! To be picky, the mattress wasn't the best but tolerable.

Review 84:I loved the hotel and all the art and pieces of interest particularly in the lobby. It was cosy, the staff were absolutely terrific and a great example for others in the industry, and I would definitely go back. Coffee shop is open 24/7!!!

Review 85:Would have liked an extra puffy blanket in the cupboard because the temperature in the room was quite low and I couldn't work the thermostat. Also- I missed Sky TV :(

Review 86:The decor is stunning and so is the location and the staff. Nice having young kiwis working there who are helpful and interested. Love the little hippos.

Review 87:We loved the art, amazing pieces just wish we had longer to look at them. We also loved the food and presentation with the wonderful French waiters and waitresses.

Review 88:We were upgraded to premium apartment. However the view was not particularly beautiful.

Review 89:I love the décor here as well as, the location and the breakfast.

Review 90:There were a few things in my room that weren't overly clean (hairs in the bath, stains on the towels, dirty cups etc) the breakfast team weren't very attentive and we ran out of glasses, butter and tea bags. Not what I would have expected for the price etc.

Review 91:The decor and views were amazing. Location ticked all the boxes and the restaurant was beautiful. The body cream in the bathroom was SO nice.

Review 92:I did not expect to have to pay for internet access. I was only on line for a short time and was charged $18 - exhorbitant!! In addition the hotel charges a 2% for payment by credit card. This is unacceptable in today's world.

Review 93:The room was a good size with a view over the harbour and surprisingly quiet.

Review 94:Wasn't there for the TV but non-the-less its functionality wasn't up to scratch (movies). Given the tariff all facilities should be spot on. Instructions for heating didn't match with switches and dials available...sorted it but again, should be sorted.

Review 95:Staff, location, view, balcony, comfort and ambiance all great.

Review 96:Not sure how airconditioning worked so felt uncomfortable during night with the noise and trying to get the temp right.

Review 97:We loved the sunshine coming in through the windows at breakfast time and the style of the decor. The service was impeccable.

Review 98:Dined in the restaurant and found it to be a tourist trap - Do not accept the very small glass of champagne.

Review 99:We asked to change our room after the first night and this was no problem at all.

Review 100:Had a fantastic stay here, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the room well appointed and scrupulously clean. Fab location too with so much to see and do within a short walking distance. Highly recommend!

Review 101:Room door was left ajar by housekeeping. Called reception and also spoke to reception and told would be informed what time house keeping left my room at. Was travelling with expensive equipment . Checked out 3 days ago and still haven't heard. Poor service. Was given complimentary breakfast but was not impressed with it and certainly not worth $25!

Review 102:The breakfast was a bit ordinary. We had high expectations as the evening meal at the Hippopotamus restaurant is exceptional.

Review 103:This hotel is in a great position just opposite Te Papa museum by the waterfront. The art works are stimulating and the hotel has a luxurious feel. It is clean well kept and the staff are helpful and friendly.

Review 104:The price of a glass of wine in Hippopotamus ($16). Plus do you a only employ French people in the restaurant? I couldn't understand why everyone had a French accent. Restaurant needs to work on service slightly. (Forgot order/given wrong meal etc) Otherwise perfect

Review 105:Great location, upgraded to an excellent apartment, extremely comfortable and not the usual stock standard type of hotel

Review 106:It's showing its age a little, but still good. I thought the 2% charge for a credit card is out of order at this level. Plus charging in Internet although I understand if you book directly it's free.

Review 107:Comfortable and great staff. Good pillows.

Review 108:The very hard bed and the fact you had to pay for Wi-Fi in your room

Review 109:Loved the artwork everywhere, you felt like you were at home but in reality you were in a sophisticated hotel

Review 110:There was nothing we didn't like only that we had to leave to come home

Review 111:We loved the art work and all the other unique features of the hotel. The bathroom on the ground level was also amazing. Will definitely be coming here again for our little weekend escape without our children!

Review 112:Wifi should be free, the wine list was extensive but rather overpriced. Locals expect to pay more at a restaurant but we do know what they cost a bottle.

Review 113:The meal at Hippopotamus was outstanding, the staff were wonderful.

Review 114:Nothing

Review 115:This would be the most awesome hotel to stay in anywhere in the world that is affordable, a great location and the ambience is created by the decor and an amazing collection of art within the hotel that is accessible for guests to enjoy. Great staff.

Review 116:Only thing was no Power Plug in the Bathroom which I found strange.

Review 117:Great looking Boutique Hotel. Friendly, Helpful Staff, close to Waterfront and Te Papa. Ordered Room Service & it was really tasty. Would definitely Stay here again.

Review 118:The room was very small and too many mirrors, No windows to open to get fresh air. I stay at the AKL City Heritage regular on business the room rate is normally around $200 -$ 229 I have a bedroom plus lounge plus bathroom etc, breakfast & parking and its really comfortable. I know the hotel wanted to set a atmosphere but it is very dark dark interior in the hall ways etc

Review 119:We loved the location, and the warmth of the hotel, love the bar upstairs hippotomas

Review 120:Late room service was cold in the middle of the food suggesting it was heated up and not very well for the price.

Review 121:Front desk and staff were excellent great view and location beautiful bed

Review 122:pool was under renovation breakfast was expensive ordered toast and got cold white bread not impressed.

Review 123:Amazing decor, bed and bathroom. After my feedback was offered a night's stay

Review 124:Shower was modern but poor design, flooded bathroom floor as water not directed back into shower base, slack not been spotted and fixed. No free wi-fi in room at those rates not acceptable in these times

Review 125:Quality hotel and unique style late check out bag storage was accommodating of our evening flight

Review 126:Gave shirts to laundry: came back unironed and unfolded, at 7 NZD each. However, upon my complaint the price was halved - intelligent staff.

Review 127:On the waterfront, just opposite Te Papa. Actually the hotel stood at Te Papa's location, and they uprooted the building and moved it. Full of rather clever minir artwork. In a word, splendid example of NZ quirky cleverness.

Review 128:The Lounge chair was .not suitable for a fat person. The shower was totally unsuitable for a disabled person. The room did not have a harbour view which I requested. The Goumet pizza was not gourmet and in gereal the food was not good value.Staff were excellent and obliging.

Review 129:Location

Review 130:The hotel and staff were amazing. I let them know in advance that we were arriving in the morning and they upgraded us so we ended up checking in at 9am :). The room was amazing such a comfortable room. Worthy of an afternoon nap.

Review 131:Newspaper ordered but was not delivered for our 3day stay. No free wi-fi in the rooms was disappointing as we had had this in our previous two hotels on our north island trip.

Review 132:Wonderful ambience, fabulous art everywhere, excellent service, beautiful furnishings and superb restaurant w great views of the harbour. Room very well appointed w balcony, and spacious bathroom w separate shower as requested.

Review 133:we had problems with wifi in the room. To their credit, the staff were extremely helpful and eventually agreed not to charge us for it. We used the free wifi in the lobby. Having stayed in hotels in Europe, the UK and the US where wifi is free and many of them were only 3 or 4 star hotels, we are surprised that it is still customary in this part of the world to charge for wifi usage.

Review 134:The charming young man, Felix, who greeted us and brought in our luggage. He made us feel so welcome and helped us out to our car again later. The staff at reception were very pleasant and helpful. The service in the lobby bar was exemplary, the waiter noticing that we were sharing our food and returning with extra cutlery without our mentioning it.

Review 135:Need to improve valet parking, cost $20.00 per night for them to park the car on arrival, but then you have to get your own car, not brought back to the door for you. We stopped at the front door to get luggage out, were honked at by taxis, staff did nothing about it. Just told us to leave our car there, while we were being hand gestured by the taxi driver (Their courtesy taxi service). Also we booked in cause of their indoor pool, we were NOT told at the time of booking that this was under construction. Charged an extra 20$ for late check-out.

Review 136:Staff were friendly, hotel is beautiful. Bed was comfortable, room was amazing. Loved the bath salts. Room service was on time, but a little cold. Rooms sound proofed for traffic, but not for other room noise so quite noisy.

Review 137:There is very little room to pull your car up in front of the hotel, and cars are parked, by valet, mostly across the street, which can be inconvenient.

Review 138:We loved the scale and the artsy tone of the hotel -- it has a kind of funked up class that is really unique. The art made us smile and our room, with its view of the Te Papa Museum, was truly lovely.

Review 139:Excellent location, near Te Papa museum and waterfront. Very clean and modern. Wonderful art works spread throughout the hotel. Top notch and very helpful staff. Outstanding breakfast, and dinner restaurant. Computers in the lobby to check internet. Would definitely stay there again next time in Wellington.
