Reviews for Ostello Bello Bagan

Review 1:Some local small kids are constantly hanging out in the entrance and will try to sell you their drawings at all times and beg for your breakfast food (hard to refuse...). At this point the hostel should either feed them or serve breakfast somewhere else.

Review 2:Small dorms, free tours organized by the staff, friendly atmosphere, rooftop sitting area.

Review 3:I heard pizza was amazing here and so my expectations were very high! Let's just say that my pizza cravings were not satisfied. The pizza is good, but it's not a wood fired pizza.

Review 4:The staff was informative, kind, and caring. This hostel was the most social hostel we stayed in Myanmar. There was a great outdoor area to meet people and have a few drinks. The location was right in the middle of New Bagan so any of the main roads are easily accessible with tons of restaurants nearby. Loved the rooms and hot shower too!

Review 5:A bit expensive but Bagan in general isn't very cheap.

Review 6:Fun atmosphere (quiz night Tuesday), free pasta every day, comfortable beds, clean, good breakfast, friendly staff who were welcoming even though I arrived at 3am.

Review 7:The menu food was bland and overpriced.

Review 8:It is located near restaurants and is not far from the sites, by ebike. The hostel was extremely clean and the beds were very comfortable. WiFi was generally good. Breakfast was filling and the all-day free tea/coffee a nice touch. Helpful, friendly staff. Best of all are the evening activities they organise for free.

Review 9:if you get a room close to the bar can be a bit noise at night if you want to sleep early. not really a problem...

Review 10:the staff was very friendly and helpfull. location is great. you can rent the motorbike/bike just in front of the Hostel

Review 11:the free pasta was terrible - OK its free you dont have to eat it but rather not serve it at all they left all travel arrangements to do small agencies eg. opposite which is tend to be not efficient when it comes to ebike rentals...rather walk a bit and find better places lot of other travel agencies

Review 12:its a hostel with the typical vibration plenty of free things and offers, free tea, water and burma cigars quick answers on email kind of helpful staff yet they seemed busy almost everytime - big hostel big thank you for organising the ballooning - they can get things done for you

Review 13:Nothing actually... But a little bit more local feel would be better.

Review 14:Perfect place for a wonderful trip. "Best wifi in Myanmar" - as they said. Super nice staffs. Good foods.

Review 15:much bigger than you think from the outside, there must be hundreds of beds. not great value for money in my view. misses a bit of a "local" feel

Review 16:great place to meet people, especially for solo travellers. the common areas are very good to chat and take advantage of the happy hour. activities are organised for free (sunrise/sunset tours, bingo night etc..)

Review 17:Hard to criticize but the free breakfast could have been better

Review 18:This is the all round package, great bar and food onsite, great staff, very easy to arrange travel, tours, bikes etc. Lively place with lots of activities, but still calm and peaceful for kids. Perfect score!

Review 19:Good atmosphere. Nice rooftop bar. And friendly staff. Especially the Burmese chap who developed an obsession with the fireworks on NYE. A little pricey, but understandable given the lack of alternatives. Was worth it. Also, it's not actually called Ostello Bello, so don't worry when the taxi driver drops you off at 'Thiri Sandar'

Review 20:We stayed at Ostello Bello over the Christmas period and had a wonderful time. The staff were most helpful, room clean and modern, linen fresh and breakfast plentiful. Free tea, coffee and cigars throughout the day gave it the final touch. Nothing was too much trouble, every small detail thought of. We would not hesitate to go back and would highly recommend to all travellers.

Review 21:1. Very expensive as a hostel. 2. This hostel is non-alcohol hostel. So a lot of people drink in the dormitory. During my stay, there was a guy drunk about ten bottles of beers during the very late night till 5am, nobody could sleep well. Few times some other guests got up at 4am to take the early bus or watch the sunrise, he annoyed them, that wasn't a pleasant experience at all. 3. The restaurant service is not too bad, but few of the Burmese staff was really unprofessional, not friendly and I have waited for my lunch there for half hour.

Review 22:Good location. Easy to rent a ebike. The westerners staff was nice.

Review 23:We booked through Booking.com. They didn't have any double room available, so we chose 4 beds in a dorm. It says on Booking.com that children are welcome. As we travel extensively with our children (6 and 8 yrs old), they have experience sleeping in dorm and we have never encountered any trouble (our kids are deep sleepers, so they don't wake up when people show up late + we take them out of the room as soon as they wake up at around 7am). That being said, we were not greeted very warmly by the managers when they saw we had kids. They said no kids in dorm, but this is not mentioned anywhere on Booking.com. They said we could stay for the night but then that we should probably find somewhere else (this is Christmas night by the way, high season, everything's booked...) Even though we didn't have any problem with the other occupants of the room, and ended up staying for 3 nights, we did feel completely unwelcome the whole time we were there, so we try to stay out as much as we could. I think it is not a great place for families with young kids, as the managers seem set in creating a party vibe and see children as a mood spoiler. Despite the 'children welcome' advertisement, ours were clearly not, which meant it wasn't a very enjoyable Christmas for us. And for 300 Usd, we were expecting a lot more smiles from the staff!!!

Review 24:The dorm was comfy and clean. Breakfast was good. Many restaurants nearby and also bike and motorbike rental just in front. Nice outdoor area.

Review 25:Cold and distant "western" staff in reception. Hostel feels like you are a number and money source. This is quite noticeable in Myanmar where people are welcoming and friendly, so it striked me after staying in locally managed places. No ventilation in dorm

Review 26:Location

Review 27:Besides the comfort and cleanliness of the hostel, we realised that Ostelo Bello hostel was a hub in Bagan gathering like-minded people. It was great to stay there and I'll recommend to my friends.

Review 28:Ostello Bello Bagan is a lovely hostel. Great atmosphere and very nice staff (Kyle and everyone else we talked to were very helpful). The triple room we stayed in was simple but it was more that fine: comfy beds, hot showers and reading lights - we didn't need anything else. The breakfast was good and you can have free tea/coffee/water anytime you time you want.

Review 29:it is noisy. Not just from the communal area, which finishes about 11, but being an old wooden place you can hear every footstep and door opening in the hallways. It was fine as we were so tired we could sleep through it but with people getting up early as well for sunrises if you are a light sleeper you might find it annoying. Drinks in the bar were excessive in cost compared to elsewhere. We had a gin and tonic and it was basically the same cost as what we would pay in Australia, whereas next place we stayed in Inle Lake was more in line with local prices.

Review 30:Great atmosphere which being more of a backpackers you expect. Lots of guidebooks and info easily on hand. Staff were really friendly and willing to share knowledge and tips. They do their own sunrise/ sunset trips with hostel guests so you can avoid the overly crowded pagodas. Coffee and tea are free and available any time which is great.

Review 31:Friendly staff, delicious food, very clean room and a lot o space to relax after a long day trough the temples meeting new friends. I loved everything of this hostel. On the other side of the street is possible to rent ebikes, bicycles and laundry service is available as well. The hostel organize many activities like sunrise trip, Burmese language class and parties. Highly recommended

Review 32:I think 2pm check in is way too late specially when the buses arrive so early in the morning and all we want to do is to get settled before going out.

Review 33:The beds are very comfy. It is good to have the bathroom in the room. Reception staff are awesome. Sunset and sunrise tours for free.

Review 34:- Way overpriced for the service offered (156$ private room for 2 nights close to Christmas) - No room service, I know it's technically a hostel but at this price and considering I booked a private room, I expected my room to be cleaned - Basic room, 1 bed and 1 table - that was it, here again disappointing for the price I paid - No choice for breakfast, you eat what you're given in your plate (rice, eggs and fruits)

Review 35:- Nice atmosphere - Tea and coffee available all day long - Wifi is OK - Great place to meet travelers - Plenty of restaurants around - Plenty of options to rent ebikes

Review 36:Even though this place is nice, $19 for a dorm room is pretty excessive. Prices at the bar for drinks and food are in the same category. We ate and drank elsewhere.

Review 37:Very much like a decent European hostel with most things, eg lockers, individual plugs/lights, aircon etc, the independent traveler likes in a hostel.

Review 38:Most staff (especially those not local) were not particularly friendly and helpful and we felt the prices we paid for the accommodation were quite high for what is offered. But the worst point is they try to convince you to stay over at the hostel in the evening by saying that they offer free pasta at 7.00pm and 9.00pm, but when it actually comes out of the kitchen, it is a very small bowl (with few spaghetti in it) to be shared for each table of 4!! Don't say that you have free pasta if that is all you offer! People feel like being ripped off. I would really recommend to offer a proper plate of pasta to each guest that wants one, it is not going to cost you much and people are going to leave much more satisfied!

Review 39:Nice hostel atmosphere. Activities organised for guests daily. Free tea and coffee at reception. Our en-suite double room was spacious and comfortable.

Review 40:Sometimes the staffs are stressed and a little bit short on talk.

Review 41:Super clean rooms, nice location und friendly staffs. A lot of Tourists there but definitly a place to rest because you meet a lot of people and everyone is chilled.

Review 42:Nothing worth mentioning

Review 43:My husband and I enjoyed very much the atmosphere every evening after a long day visiting pagodas. Hotel has nice activities and the staff is sooooo nice!!!food is nice too :)

Review 44:Quite pricey compared to other hotels/guesthouses in the entire Bagan area. Showers were intermittently hot and cold.

Review 45:Generally comfortable environment.

Review 46:It was pretty expensive for dorms/hostel restaurant. A little too much price for the hype in my opinion. I think a lot of the hype is for the social scene. This is a hugely social vibe here, but this comes at the cost of being loud at night in the common areas. Namely the outside lounge/restaurant area below some rooms. The showers were unreliable for hot water. We were told the wrong time to meet for the hostel sunrise outing by one of the staff, so we were pretty upset about missing that.

Review 47:This was a very nice hostel indeed. Everything seemed well maintained, clean, and very modern for SEA. The location was great, in the center of New Bagan, next to plenty of amenities. Weekly activities were provided, such as trivia nights and pasta tastings. The rooms were nice, with their own bathrooms inside the room. The large bag storage was great.

Review 48:The food is good, but overpriced. The hostel is much pricier than others but the hostel is very nice and convenient. Be warned if you come on an overnight bus you cannot check in until 2.

Review 49:The only typical western style hostel in Bagan. Dorms are very comfortable and clean. There are places to rent e bikes and book tickets just across the street. The happy hour and activities are great.

Review 50:Unfriendly staff, unfortunately, brought the whole place down - especially compared with everywhere else we stayed or went to in Myanmar. One staff member was standoffish with myself, my friends - as well as a few other guests - if asked for advice! (Which defeats the point of running a hostel littered with brightly coloured posters inviting guests to ask questions...........) Food was basic and not good value.

Review 51:The location was good, and the facilities were clean. A good place to stay if you want to drink beer and centre your stay around the hostel.

Review 52:Same breakfasts (short stay is more recommended) A little bit costly (but it was the same price in Bagan)

Review 53:Staffs are friendly also useful, help and give me many advice Clean room Free juice, tea, coffee Can take shower and take a nap on rooftop when arrive early Laundry and ebike hire service opposite to hostel Free pasta at 1-7-9PM

Review 54:I found the staff and the people there a little bit "snob". It's definitely a party hostel, don't go there if you're looking for quiet time. Overpriced. Funny story: they refused my dollars which have been accepted everywhere in Burma, even in the bike rental just in front of the hostel. The room was ok, but 8 with a shared indoor bathroom..you can imagine how's the room and the bathroom after 8 showers..

Review 55:Breakfast was ok. Helpful staff. Good location just in front of a e-bike rental (or it's the contrary?)

Review 56:Like all the hostel, too many young people hanging around, breakfast was quite simple, all relaxing /public area are packed with backpackers. Very limited service, anyway, it's good to spend several dollor in a shared room, but for private rooms, it cost too much.

Review 57:It's a new and clean hostel in new Bagan, close to restaurants and motorbike rental stall.

Review 58:The shared bathroom becomes a bit dirty quickly (obviously - and that is in itself not a fault of the hostel, of course). But maybe another quick cleaning session in the evening would help anyway? That would also set this place apart from other hostels even more :) . Also, the shower's drainage was congested/blocked in our room which is never a good thing when six people need a shower after a long day. But I have to admit, we didn't ask for help on that either. So, all in all, I really can't criticize a whole lot :)

Review 59:The staff was very helpful, it's easy to rent scooters and bikes right outside of the hostel and, considering that this is still a hostel, everything was quite clean (esp. the beds and the public areas).

Review 60:It's too expensive. I have been travelling for a while through different countries and feel like if a Hostel (even one that obviously is super popular because they are really the only "Hostel" in the area with such amenities.) is going to have high room rates then they should have cheap eats and booze to sell. and vice versa. cheap rooms, go high normal on booze but allow people to bring in their own (which ostello does) But not both, not high roomrates and high booze. It's too much, but other than that ...... it was nice

Review 61:Okay, Ostello Bello is a very nice hostel if you have been roughing the villages of Myanmar and want a little bit of a break. It's clean, has good wifi(if that's important to you) good breakfast, showers, and helpful, happy staff, with cool game nights that brings everyone together.

Review 62:Nothing to do with Ostello Bello but the taxi drivers are aggressive and try to charge way too much. Beware!

Review 63:It was buzzy and the location was good for restaurants and hiring bikes.

Review 64:The guy at the reception tried to charge us more than the actual booking, never mind we enjoyed the stay very much anyway.

Review 65:Happy, clean and enjoyable environment.

Review 66:The staff at the hostel is superhelpful and friendly all day and night, they organize little tours and the vibes at the place are really good. You should just go eat somewhere els in town.

Review 67:Perfect place to stay in Bagan! We had a double room with bathroom which was very convenient. The food is delicious, an e-bike rental and laundry service is just across the street.

Review 68:Some cushions for on the wooden chairs outside would be great :)

Review 69:Great chill out areas; bar and lunch/dinner available; Room was really nice and clean. Bus tickets and e-motorbikes just across the road.

Review 70:Misleading advert about free food. There is not a free food, it is only a sample of pasta. So I believe they should be clearer in regards this.

Review 71:Good atmosphere and very friendly staff.

Review 72:It could have been cheaper to be a hostel in SEA. Food also quite expencive. Toilets were not too clean.

Review 73:Good and popular hostel with a great location. They arrange sunrise tours, language classes, bingo etc for free. Good place for mingle. Comfy beds. Great and helpful staff.

Review 74:Our room was very noisy because of the extractor of the kitchen. A bit expesive to be a hostel and poor breakfast.

Review 75:Sunset and sunrise free trips and the staff is very helpfull

Review 76:Is a bit pricy for a backpacker but for the place was great anyway

Review 77:Everything they had an amazing place where to stay offering several.options to make your stay wonderful

Review 78:The card machine wasn't working and the ATM's were not accepting my credit card which was a bit problematic.

Review 79:One of the best hostels I've stayed in during my South east asia trip. Met amazing people, stuff were friendly. There were places to chill/sleep before check-in and after check-out. loads of cheap food place around. If you are arriving by night bus, no need to book the hostel for that night as there's place in the roof with beds and fans to sleep. That saves money.

Review 80:The night staff could be more flexible towards travellers. Even though we had already booking for the next day and we came after long travel we were refused a shower. It is also quite expensive (twice cheaper in the neighbourhood).

Review 81:Nice place with a good vibe. Free tea and coffee (real milk!) Bike rental and free laundry in front. Nice staff. Very clean and nice roof tarrace.

Review 82:Bit on the pricey side, but seems typical for Bagan.

Review 83:Great facilities. The bar, hangout spaces make this a great place to chill after a long day looking at temples.

Review 84:They charge you around ten thousand kyats if you need to stay after you checked out, for instance waiting for your business. I think it's too much

Review 85:Besides the facilities, I appreciate the efforts the staff put on to animate this place

Review 86:For Myanmar quite western prices. Although this was the most comfortable hostel I stayed in Myanmar, prices are a bit high for a dorm room.

Review 87:clean, comfy beds, ensuite bathroom, western style, helpful knowledgeable staff, good atmosphere. We had a problem with the toilet in our room and were insantly replaced to another room.

Review 88:a little down side would be : too European style. You will not feel like you are in Myanmar once you enter the gate.

Review 89:The location of this hotel is really great. And they also have a roof top where you can rest, sleep, shower, recharge your hp and even kitchen to make your own coffee or tea!

Review 90:That I had to leave. Not much wrong with this place to be honest.

Review 91:Location in new Bagan is great with loads of restaurants within a few minutes walk. The common area is big and makes it easy to meet others. They put in an huge effort to make your stay fun, such as bingo nights, food tasting.

Review 92:Everything was good!

Review 93:The internet was very good in this hostel and the hostel itself is surrounded by everything you need - especially bike rentals and restaurants! Tea, water and coffee were free all day long and in the evening there was a happy hour for cocktails. Facilities are very new and you can meet a lot of other travelers easily!

Review 94:Very friendly and helpful staff. The hostel is clean, new, and cozy. The location is convenient - there are many good local restaurants and e-bike rentals nearby.

Review 95:The rooms were really good.. Really nice big beds and safe ladders to get up to the top bunks. The lockers under the bed were also really useful and meant there was no clutter in the rooms. Really good outdoor space for socialising in the evenings. Decent breakfast. Good tours to see the sunrise/sunset etc organised from the hostel!!

Review 96:8 people in a room may be a little too much! And the price is high, but is bagan...

Review 97:It's a great hostel! All that you may need is there and the staff is very helpful. Good breakfast and good location in new bagan.

Review 98:I spend 2 nights there. The staff gave me a room another room than I booked. But the worst is the room was so smelly... I don't know where it comes from but they have to settle that definitively. Staff is ok but they can do better.

Review 99:The bar is cosy, you can easily rent a e-bike or your bus just in front of the hostel.

Review 100:The hostel is located in an excellent position, close to an ebike rental shop and near restaurants. The best thing about the place is surely the cozy atmosphere which both international and local staff are able to create. It is a great place to meet other travellers and spend hours chilling out in the common areas. As the nightlife scene is basically non-existing in Bagan, staying in this hostel will allow you to easily socialize with other people. Absolutely recommended.

Review 101:The employees seem to be too busy to handle all the needs of customers.

Review 102:The design and cleaners is quite nice comparing to other hostels. The bar is perfect!!

Review 103:The food was good but quite expensive.

Review 104:There aren´t too many hostels in Bagan, and this is the place where you want to be to meet people. Also the staff was very nice, I spent my birthday there and they even bought me a big birthday cake and sang me happy bday, thank you :)

Review 105:Nothing really

Review 106:Accommodation in Myanmar is expensive so I resorted to using backpackers for the first time in about 10 years. This place, however, was a great reintroduction to dorms. OB is so hassle-free and laid-back. The helpful staff also organize activities and provide useful advice! Definitely recommended.

Review 107:Water was not hot enough in the dorme. People wake up very early to enjoy the sunrise, can be annoying if you want to sleep. Food is good but a bit pricey.

Review 108:Awesome place, very clean, well organized, super friendly and helpful staff, easy to socialize with travelers. The location is good in the main road. Ebikes, laundry and bus tickets can be found at the shops in front of the hostel.

Review 109:the guys who did our check-in were really helpful, friendly and very welcoming. they allowed us to store our bags and use their shower facilities even before check-in and after check-out whilst we were waiting for our overnight bus journey.

Review 110:- bit expensive, the dorm-bed may be the normal price for Bagan, but the food and beer are way too overpriced for what they offered - breakfast is the same (and not so great) everyday, I had to pay 3500K the day I arrived for the same breakfast.

Review 111:- good atmosphere and great to meet other travellers - lots of travel agencies nearby to rent e-bikes or book a tour/bus - free spaghetti at certain times - staff was really helpful in giving tips for the best pagoda's in Bagan and organised free sunrise and sunset tours.

Review 112:Very helpful staff, a very well set up hostel. Everything is available to you if you need it (even a laptop or tablet). The hostel runs a free sunset tour on Sunday's and night time activities/happy hour on other nights. Would reccomend a stay here.

Review 113:Nice staff - happy hours - well located- bus ticket and motorbike rent in front of the guesthouse - close from restaurants - great atmosphere - big and clean bedroom - free wifi ...

Review 114:The air-con need to clean, it smells moldy and feel uncomfortable...

Review 115:The location is really good, you can find lots of nice food around, and very convinience to take a taxi. Staffs are very nice and helpful.

Review 116:-all staff are very nice. -excellent wifi -there are several activities for each day such as E-bike trip for going to the sunset in the secret place or learning easy Myanmar language.

Review 117:Not quite suitable with family and no shower or changing room for evening departure

Review 118:Very informative from both staffs and signboard with accuracy. Free flow water and coffee

Review 119:Breakfast is the same each day so do not stay too long...

Review 120:Great hostel with a lot of activities and travelers to meet Room is big (4 dorm) and bed is excellent. Excellent wifi Breakfast is good Shower has hot water and good preasure

Review 121:Very animated bar where you can chat with anyone and make new friends. Room was cute and clean. There are two shops renting e-bike opposite to the hotel and they also have cars bringing you to Mont Popa.

Review 122:My 2 nights there made me regret I didn't have more time to spend in Bagan!

Review 123:Great Staff...They even got us a birthday cake for our anniversary! Very helpful to book activities around Bagan, the free coffee/tea/water/cigars are welcome, good breakfast and food from the kitchen. Excellent ambiance from the outside terrace, always buzzing with fellow backpackers having a drink from the bar, quiz night was fun, perfect location with a super friendly local e-bike rental just opposite the road.

Review 124:There's not one bad thing that could be said about this place!

Review 125:The best hostel in whole of Myanmar!!! Proper western expectations of service & facilities. Free tea, coffee, pasta tastings, yummy breakfast, even cigars! Very comfortable beds, the staff are so helpful and friendly and the atmosphere is fantastic.

Review 126:It was an absolutely good experience backpacking in Ostello Bello! The staff was super friendly, the dorms were super clean and comfortable (even the 8 bed dorms), the breakfast was great..... and just good words from my experience totally recommend it!!

Review 127:Pricey. Small breakfasts.

Review 128:Nicely decorated room, comfortable beds, great staff, water, tea, coffee available free of charge throughout the stay, good location.

Review 129:The shower wasn't always hot and when it was, it wasn't really hot enough.

Review 130:The location was really good, with E-bikes to rent just across the street and everything worth visiting in driving distance. Also in a street that was easy to locate. Rooms were very good and quite cosy.

Review 131:Food was a bit on the pricey side. Not quite sure why that is since it's a hostel.

Review 132:Cool environment and friendly staff! Would definitely recommend to others.

Review 133:My e-bike accident..

Review 134:Everything ! Staff friendly, dorm clean, comfy bed, excellent wifi , free coffee, tea and water Just in front , there is a cheap rental e-bike, also selling bus ticket

The Fine Print

One child (under the age of 5) can stay free of charge in an existing bed in the private rooms (one child per bed).Guests must be 13 years or older to stay in the dormitory rooms.
