Reviews for The Old Manse

Review 1:We enjoyed our stay however the venue is very much geared for social hosting. Husband and I were looking forward to a 'just us' weekend which did not quite fit with the venue. (shared breakfast in the morning with other guests)

Review 2:Lovely boutique building with great scenary having the vineyard right next door.

Review 3:The warm welcome from the owners, Megan and Malcolm was fantastic. There were complimentary nibbles in the evening and a delicious breakfast cooked for us in the morning. We were very well looked after and the facilities were great.

Review 4:Personal touches by hosts Malcolm and Megan. Drinks and canapés in the evening, amazing cooked to order breakfast. Tastefully furnished and in excellent location. Fabulous.

Review 5:Would be nice if they had a hot tub.

Review 6:Great hosts. Free glass of wine each evening with the hosts. Great breakfasts. Also enjoyed an evening meal bbq with the hosts.

Review 7:From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. Our bedroom was extremely comfortable with views over the vineyard. The breakfast was excellent including superb homemade marmalade. Nothing seemed too much trouble for Megan and Malcolm.

Review 8:Absolutely nothing to say here!

Review 9:The property was lovely, great character, very comfy bed and extremely clean facilities. The hosts were awesome, treated all the guests like old friends. Included in the room rate were wine and nibbles in the evening - an excellent icebreaker for meeting other guests, and a delicious full English breakfast which made it a very economical place to stay. We will definitely recommend and be back.

Review 10:Extremely helpful and friendly owners who went out of their way to make us feel at home. Lovely accommodation, excellent breakfast and good company. Highly recommended

Review 11:nothing really major - having few more shalves in bathroom would be useful, but that's about it

Review 12:great location with vineyard around, nice welcoming hosts, love the idea of 5-30 drinks for all guests

Review 13:We were made to feel really welcome and individually important. Loved the drinks/nibbles - great opportunity to meet other guests. Fabulous breakfast. Lots of little extras, including Easter eggs and hot cross buns for Easter. Lovely touch.

Review 14:Nothing!

Review 15:Malcolm and Megan are the best hosts you could ask for, so friendly, helpful and welcoming. We loved the social aspect of our stay meeting all the other guests over complimentary wine and nibbles every evening. The place itself is beautiful with so much character and very well thought out.

Review 16:Lovely old house sympathetically restored; nearby excellent dining facilities; hosts welcoming; interesting & surprising extras. Couldn't wish for more.

Review 17:The best B&B I have ever stayed at. Immaculate property. Fantastic owners. Overlooking spectacular vineyards. Excellent breakfast. Very peaceful, relaxing, and authentic. Next time in New Zealand, will definitely stay here again.

Review 18:B&B with 'history', stylish renovation, greet and meet with other guests (complementary wine and knibbles) that fosters mutual exchange and getting to know people, booking of dinner, ride to restaurant, bikes on site, (cooked) breakfast with a plus

Review 19:Nothing.

Review 20:The warmth of the welcome, the comfort of the room and communal areas, the interaction with the hosts and other guests and the quality of the breakfast!

Review 21:Could have done with more shelves or cupboards in the bedroom if we stayed for longer than a night.

Review 22:Malcom & Megan were very welcoming and the ability to bring their guests together was great.

Review 23:Would have preferred a TV and tea/coffee making facilities in the room and it will be great when their wifi gets set up in each room too.

Review 24:Wine and nibbles each evening to meet other guests. Great breakfasts!

Review 25:Hosts are great! They just took over the business and are trying very hard to live up to the great reputation of the previous owners. They are succeeding by all accounts.

Review 26:We had a warm welcome and a lovely stay. Our hosts were great: drinks and nibbles at 6; transport to the local restaurants and a good nights sleep followed by a wonderful breakfast. You could ask for nothing more.

Review 27:Wi-fi a bit unstable! A bit to far to walk to the restaurants if you have had a long day!

Review 28:A really personal place to stay. Very nicely decorated and big rooms! A lovely garden and porch. Felt as in someones home. Could chill and store your own drinks in the big fridge. Lovely, home-made breakfast.

Review 29:Weak and unreliable wi-fi. It would be good if this was improved. It would be quite frustrating if you really needed contact with the outside world.

Review 30:Everything. Lovely building, nice setting, welcoming hosts, pre-dinner drinks worked well to help guests mingle. Paper in the morning, nice cooked breakfast.

Review 31:The wifi reception was very poor.

Review 32:Very friendly owners/staff. The evening nibbles and drinks were an unexpected surprise. The cooked breakfast was superb.

Review 33:The only negatives were the room could have had a table, quite sparse- little space to set things and I would recommend different shampoo, quite poor quality.

Review 34:The owners/hosts were lovely and the breakfast was very good.

Review 35:The WiFi only works if you're in the pool room, next to the guest lodge so if its locked you won't be able to check your e-mail, etc. Not convenient for business travelers but they will unlock the door for you with no problem.

Review 36:Nice location set among some grapevines. Lovely large guest lounge. Sandra and John have happy hour every evening so we can all meet each other and talk. You can select from your breakfast from their menu and John prepares it at the time you request, while Sandra checks in on everyone to be sure they had a good dinner, and a good sleep.

Review 37:Everything was great - we have booked to go back in three weeks!

Review 38:Lovely hosts, went over and above with their hospitality and provided drinks and nibbles on the Saturday night. Extremely clean (bathroom tiles were so shiny!). Delicious breakfast. Definitely recommend staying here

Review 39:We arrived early and were met with a very grumpy response, and told to come back later, but that was the only thing that wasn't excellent

Review 40:everything, for breakfast had best scrambled eggs of my life

Review 41:Beautiful breakfasts served to our lazy schedule, cosy fireside pre dinner drinks and nibbles provided before guests went in different directions for dinner in one of Martinboroughs great eating options, and most of all the congenial hosts.

Review 42:Could have done with extra pillows for bed and glass in bathroom.(By the time we noticed it was too late to ask for them as hosts not resident on premises.). .

Review 43:Heritage ambiance, nice garden, It was within walking distance of town centre and good restaurants while still quiet and retaining rural atmosphere. Hosts were friendly and helpful.

Review 84:Nothing. A friendly dog to pat would have been a bonus.

Review 85:Friendly and knowledgeable host made us feel very welcome. Nice to meet other guests over a glass of wine in the evening and over breakfast. Short walk in to town. Beautifully restored house.

Review 86:Our hosts were lovely and the location is excellent for easy access to the vineyards and olive groves. John was very kind to lend us his bicycle and we were able to hire another just down the road. The room was comfortable and beautiful, and breakfast was divine.

Review 87:Owners made you feel right at home. They even laid on drinks & canapés the evening we arrived for all the guests. The house was fabulous; it was a delightful place to stay.

Review 88:The room was a bit sparse and could have used a small table or something to put things on as there was no counter space in the bathroom (pedestal sink) and very small side tables at the bedsides. I ended having to put things on the floor.

Review 89:It was a lovely spot. The beds were comfortable and the hosts very helpful and friendly. We liked the "Happy Hour" in the evening. It was also very quiet.

Review 90:Just a little too far from the centre of town to walk when all dressed up.

Review 100:The ambiance of this wonderfully restored heritage building with beautifully manicured gardens, warm, friendly hosts - all in the very peaceful town of Martinborough.....Fabulous

Review 101:Our room was a little too close to the shared lounge area - but the other rooms were not so you could request one of those .

Review 103:Nothing. Everything was perfect.

Review 104:A beautiful restored home which was comfortable and had class. Our hosts were wonderful and couldn't do enough for us. Exceptional hosts.

Review 105:The room was lovely, but very cold. The bathroom was also perfection with brass fittings etc. The floor a stunning cobalt blue tile was freezing. Difficult to flush the toilet with the brass flusher set so closely to the back ..the doors were difficult to open also with the knobs set to closely to the door. Small things if you have to find something wrong.

Review 112:Two cockroaches in bathroom - at least they were dead! While I understand wishing to keep the original hardware, the door-handle to my room was really too difficult - I skinned my knuckles trying to turn it.
