Reviews for The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel

Review 1:Price was very steep - paid $339. Availability in Hobart was poor due to holiday season, BBL and tennis but felt the accommodation was over priced compared to similar accommodation elsewhere. The hotel exterior promises much, is fine, but, once above the ground floor, the new wing lacked character.

Review 2:Rooms were spacious, bed comfortable, opening windows.

Review 3:The windows were dirty and there was quite a bit of road noise in the main bedroom

Review 4:An excellent location, good kitchen facilities and large spacious apartment.

Review 5:In summer time, the upper bedroom could be very hot as the air conditioner only works on lower floor. Had to use a fan.

Review 6:We booked a loft for 4 of us (2 couples). very close to everything and we love the design of the loft - with 2 toilets, 1 shower and 1 bath tub. Kitchen is fully equiped, salt and pepper are provided surprisingly. Across the street, there is a bottle shop, cheap and with many choices, and even open on Christmas day!

Review 7:The wi fi didn't work at all in our room (236) at first and the signal was weak when it came on for much of the evening. It picked up only after 10.30pm or so.

Review 8:I appreciate the attitude of all members of the reception staff there on 15 December and also the room guest manager. I particularly appreciated your service recovery initiative when you saw that your wi fi was not working properly in the room for me to work and I had to bring my laptop to the hotel lobby to download an email with work attachments. My partner had to undergo a procedure at the hospital that day and couldn't drive afterwards. We appreciate your letting us park at your hotel hours before the check-in time. Am also impressed your business centre is open 24 hours.

Review 9:No view. Dirty windows. Nice lobby area but rooms are very bland, no character. Would like to see Tasmanian art work on the walls, possibly for sale. There are so many good artists in this state, it would be nice to promote them.

Review 10:An apartment away from home! Kitchen, washer/dryer (great after long flight from US and in need of clean laundry). FreeWifi, good bed linens/pillows. Good location for wharf area and city.

Review 11:n/a

Review 12:I received an upgrade and was so delighted with that. The Studio apartment was wonderful and I'd love to move in permanently. You now have an ongoing guest every-time I come to Hobart. I would never stay anywhere else. I have stayed at varies other place none were any good, always problems - you guys get my 10/10 rating with pleasure. See you again.

Review 13:great location, walking distance to most attractions.Clean, tidy, room was very spacious.Room was also very quiet,no outside noise. Will stay again for sure

Review 14:Dissappointed that the only thing OLD WOOLSTORE was the foyer, Rest of it was just a apartment complex. Not what we thought we had booked.

Review 15:Very fast lift Quiet clean Spacious Apartment

Review 16:Not really a big negative, but the decor is a bit old-fashioned, and the hotel suffers from a problem many older hotels have: power outlets are not very conveniently located. I had a meal at the restaurant and it was just average.

Review 17:The theme and history of the hotel are very interesting: feels very Hobart! Good, free wi-fi; very good shower, comfortable bed; and very clean room overall. The location is quite good, too, and my room was quiet and dark at night.

Review 18:Great location. Reception let me smoke on my balcony with the balcony door shut, I thought that was very cool. Room was clean and spacious and had everything I needed. Staff were friendly.

Review 19:What a gorgeous old building in a great location with excellent facilities and spacious rooms. We had a lovely short but sweet stay. Super convenient parking!

Review 20:More hooks are needed! That is, on the back of the ensuite door and the powder room door. We were a group of friends so we all had to share the ensuite and there was no where AT ALL to put our towels while we showered. The clothes airer, supplied after I asked for one, was useful for hanging our towels—should be supplied to all units. Our dishwasher leaked (reported). We had to take one of the bedside tables and lamps upstairs as only three were provided. Each bed should have one—and a lamp. One of us slept downstairs and two of us slept upstairs which is why two bedside tables and lamps were needed upstairs.

Review 21:The unit was very spacious and both bedrooms were large. I liked having a second toilet and the kitchen was well equipped. The staff were very helpful and the restaurant, The Stockman, was excellent. The wifi worked well and having lots of powerpoints (four for each bed) was fantastic!

Review 22:The inside was dated and needed repainting, the rooms very ordinary, not what you would expect from the $$$

Review 23:The facade of the hotel was beautiful. location was good for our needs.

Review 24:The apartment facilities were excellent, and the location was very easy to get to and from to all destinations in, and around Hobart. I would definitely stay again.

Review 25:We were on ground floor near reception it was way to noisy even at night people slamming car doors and standing around talking

Review 26:Clean and everything you need

Review 27:Couldn't process the payment using my VISA BOQ specialist credit card

Review 28:Good position, helpful staff, had extra bed supplied for a child without extra charge

Review 29:We didn't have any bad experiences but parking can be a bit of a hassle. Having said that we have travelled extensively in Asia where the level of customer service is generally impeccable - staff make it their priority to make their guests feel welcome and special. That doesn't really happen in Australian hotels however it is something that could very readily change if staff were prepared to make that extra effort.

Review 30:Handy location and good room facilities.

Review 31:I always struggle to find a comfirtable pillow, not fond of high firm pillows. Upon checking in I asked the girl if I could have my tax receipt emailed, she said "no, you will have to ask booking.com as that is who the reservation was made through"

Review 32:Room was very quiet and comfortable

Review 33:Hit very cold snap for time of year. No heating in appartment. Needed to wrap myself in blanket on settee. No electric socket accessible in bedroom so needed to charge phone in another room - yet out much of the day. Many of the hangers need to be easier to detatch from hook so you can hang clothes without a struggle to free the hanging part. That whole area needs a local corner store eg 7 Eleven. No where to buy every day items. Woolworths hard to locate. Slightly pricey

Review 34:Friendly staff. 24 hour reception. Historic interesting renovated building. Large appartment. Well equiped. Full breakfast at reasonable price. Centrally located

Review 35:They have the worst restaurant ever. The food was revolting. The pork was served rare and I'm sure that is not the safe way to eat pork. Would never go back plus added to the insult it was expensive

Review 36:Room was quite a distance away from the hotel entrance and the noise from the beer garden was very loud into the night. We were also kept up by loud footsteps all night. Very disappointed as have stayed before and it was much, much better.

Review 37:We were given an up grade to a 1 bedroom unit, which we did not know you had, we also now know you have 2 bed units which could be of use to us in the future.

Review 38:We had a bit of parking trouble as we weren't aware of the overflow area, probably because we had never needed it before.

Review 39:the bathroom products, the towels, the linen I loved the Heritage building.

Review 40:Excellent service, above and beyond to help. DVD player didn't work. They replaced it at midnight and added buffet breakfast for two. I needed late checkout because of a sick baby, even though fully booked they moved things around to accommodate. Service like that doesn't grow on trees! The waiter in the resturaunt Todd had the kitchen make up pureed veges for my baby, I don't even think I was charged for it. He was an excellent waiter. The hotel is clean and very nice.

Review 41:Did not use mini bar but still waiting to have $50 delivered back to our account. Is it even legal to do so as we pay for a service we did not use and then wait to get our money back!Never had this happen before and both have travelled round country and world a bit.

Review 42:The room was cheerless and unwelcoming - no view, artificial lighting, poor acoustics ( we could hear the neighbours as if they were in our room). We were disappointed. It was adequate but we didn't feel it was worth the money we'd spent to stay there.

Review 43:Overall staff were helpful.

Review 44:Having to go home Probably could have done with more tea and coffee supplies, but that's just me.

Review 45:Stunning artwork Well equipped kitchen and bathroom Comfy bed Lovely spa placed so I could watch TV Friendly staff who can't do enough to help Lovely view Very clean and spacious Close to CBD and waterfront restaurants Good WiFi

Review 46:For the price we paid we were looking for a little more luxury! Restaurant outdated and bar was cramped! We have paid less at Crown Metropol in Melbourne for total experience including pool!

Review 47:Free car parking!

Review 48:It was lovely and clean ! Seems simple but that is one of my biggest dislikes of staying in hotels, they aren't usually clean , but happy to say this one was !

Review 49:We ate in the restaurant on one of the nights and service was not the best. Initially it was fine and then it appeared that all of the wait staff had gone on break, there was nobody on the floor for quite a while. Tables weren't cleared and new arrivals weren't met.

Review 50:As we'd never been to Hobart before, we were pleased that the location turned out to be so convenient. The staff were very efficient and friendly. Parking wasn't an issue at all.

Review 51:The placement of the aircon in our room would air across up all night and it was noisey also .

Review 52:The apartment is well set out. You can either stay in amd cook or go out. If you have been traveling for awhile like us the washing machine and dryer were a blessing.

Review 53:Dining experience a disaster, sat for 30 minutes before having to summon waitress. The chef needs a bullet to get meals out, not a lot off patrons in the restaurant on the night. If offered a complementary drink something was not going right on the night.

Review 54:Staff smiley, friendly and helpful.

Review 55:Central location. Easy parking. Apartment was quiet, clean and had everything required. Restaurant had very good meals and all staff were friendly and professional.

Review 56:Breakfast was a bit chaotic with a large coach party in at the same time as normal residents. One coffee machine attracted large queues around the coach parties tables which was awkward. As the coach party all seemd to come in at the same time food quickly ran out however staff worked hard and to sorted it out. Only a little patience was required.

Review 57:Nice clean friendly hotely in great location. Staff were very helpful. Rooms were large, clean and comfy and with all facilities. Parking was listed as limited but hotel did well helping to find a parking place.

Review 58:Extremely disappointed with this hotel. For the amount we were paying (~$200 per night), I would have expected a better experience. The reception area was dated and ordinary. When we entered our room, there was an extremely strong chlorine smell. The room was dark and dated. As such I asked to be moved. They moved us into another room which did not smell; however it was darker and the bed had changed from a king to a double - in effect they had actually downgraded us. I explained the situation and disappointment and they ended up giving us a free breakfast. Overall - completely disappointing experience, bad service and overall over priced. Would not recommend.

Review 59:Due to an issue with the room, the manager provided us free breakfast (worth about $20 pp). Breakfast was quite good, especially as we did not have to pay for it. Good convenient location. Car parking available.

Review 60:dinner was ok but atmosphere not great as not many people there, and there was no music and we could hear every other table's conversation. zero ambience!

Review 61:location & efficiency & bathroom

Review 62:the aircon was located too close to the bed, and the bedding could have been a bit cosier. If we turned the aircon on it was too hot and blowing on us, but if turned off it was a bit cool. An extra blanket in cupboard would have fixed it.

Review 63:Had ants threw our bed. Woke up with them crawling over us. When i told staff all i got was a oh ill let house keeping know. Sorry. No discount nothing. Our bed was also two singles put together which is poor.

Review 64:Free parking

Review 65:Great location. Facilities excellent- we had a bathroom, sep toilet with hand basin, bedroom and lounge/kitchenette with large TV, oven, microwave and dishwasher! Also a smaller TV in bedroom which had king size bed. Price was excellent as a Booking.com genius deal. A problem with shower handle was fixed within 15 mins of telling reception.

Review 66:The hotel was amazing! We received an upgrade to a one bedroom apartment which was fantastic! The staff, facilities and location were all excellent! I would definitely stay again!

Review 67:Woken up very early by other guests running up and down the hall and screaming, did not get much sleep

Review 68:Great tidy and comfortable room, staff very friendly and comfortable bed.

Review 69:Not enough parking spaces. Ironing Board definitely needed a new cover.

Review 70:Staff were excellent, check in and check out professional and fast. Bed was VERY comfortable. Shower was excellent.

Review 71:Loved the location and the industrial heritage of this hotel, plus the parking facilities are great. It's a stylish place with character that doesn't break the budget. I would definitely stay again.

Review 72:The house maid wasn't as thorough as perhaps she could have been.

Review 73:The overall experience. The ability to self cater. The proximity to all attractions.

Review 74:The service was slow in the restaurant and as there was at least 6 staff and only about 25/30 customers it was unacceptable that it took 20 minutes to get our order taken and an hour to get our meal.

Review 75:I love the room and the bed . It was a lovely restful room and I felt really comfortable.

Review 76:Pleasantly quiet- heard no neighbours, adjoining plumbing, traffic or early morning breakfast trollies. Very clean and comfortable. Modern bathroom with good water pressure and bath. Friendly staff.

Review 77:Front desk experience slightly below par. Seems a bit silly to charge a $50 levy for the return use of an umbrella on a very rainy night. Umbrella underperformed by the way.

Review 78:Rooms very well appointed, modern with great bathroom.

Review 79:We loved how close we were to the 3 performances we attended as well as the CBD. The Salamanca Markets and the Big Sing were also in great walking distance. We enjoyed having a kitchen to be able to cook some meals and the apartment was spacious.

Review 80:No fire warm place in lobby . Bit disappointed no real use of Woolstore atmodphere . Could have been any modern hotel. Missed opportunity to use old world history in building especially lobby area.

Review 81:Parking was a little tight at times. Never tried the breakfast or room service but it always smelled good.

Review 82:Cleanliness of the property and the free wifi. Also the bar downstairs was great.

Review 83:I had booked for a standard double room, when I rang the Woolstore to confirm booking and to explain that it was for my sister and myself I was given a 1 bedroom apartment for the quoted price. I then was able to get a roll away bed for another sister! Very happy and a great room!

Review 84:There is no allocated parking so it can be difficult to get a park. Noise from next door and above was an issue. Although neighbours were not having a party, the thumps ands bumps can were significant enough to be annoying.

Review 85:Room service, ordered medium rare scotch fillet and after an hour's wait received medium to well done porterhouse. it would be another 45 or so mins for another steak to come to the room?? Left a toilet bag in my room but no phone call to advise me even though i didnt leave Hobart till later that day. Overall, the experience is not what it used to be a couple of years ago, maybe there has been a change in management. A bit hit and miss lately.

Review 86:The location is good and the facilities are still not too bad. Room was clean and tidy with good minibar selection. Restaurant and bar facilities not bad either.

Review 87:There was absolutely nothing we didn't like except we couldn't stay longer. Tassie what a great place

Review 88:We requested rooms 301, & 401 with no guarantees, and got what we requested, well done, and thankyou. Six happy customers that will come back and mention you to all our friends.

Review 89:A view of a wall, the soundproofing between floors non existent and I think I had people practising Judo upstairs all night. Squeaky wooden floors!

Review 90:Position good and accommodation spacious if no frills

Review 91:The central location made it a fantastic base for our visit to Hobart. We have stayed there before and recommended it to our friends who thoroughly enjoyed the stay, he amenities are excellent.

Review 92:Parking has limited space.

Review 93:Fantastic. We love the location, servicing where rooms were made clean, the size of the rooms were good too.last the kitchen was well provided with detergent, salt etc. Not to forget was that toiletries provided were good too.

Review 94:Always difficult to find a parking spot because they are always so busy. That's what happens when you run a great establishment.

Review 95:Room, facilities, staff all great.

Review 96:Why I had to continually provide credit card numbers (3 times) when I provided one at time of booking is beyond me. If you don't use the number at booking time don't waste my time by asking for it

Review 97:Nothing outstanding

Review 98:Lack of natural light! But I understood why, given it was a wool store. Also, there was a sign that one could hang on the door that asked for the apt. to be serviced. We figured that if we didn't put the sign out, the apt, wouldn't be serviced. It was, however. I wouldn't have left my wallet if I'd have realised that the sign was meaningless. And we thought it was a waste of people's time, servicing a perfectly clean apt.!

Review 99:Very comfortable bed. And the two bedrooms so we could share the space but have a loungeroom.

Review 100:Would have liked wifi included in price as other hotels can and have charged less with free wifi. We felt the restaurant was over priced with a limited menu.

Review 101:The room was of a very high standard, watched the sunrise from the balcony. It was very central to everything. The staff were very friendly.

Review 102:The place was very clean a short walk to almost anywhere had everything we needed and the nicest staff all in all it was a great stay, we will be back.

Review 103:No towels , no hair conditioner. Lots of noise of footsteps from above, very annoying. The fit-out of room was very cheap and not welcoming. Not designed with people in mind.

Review 104:The staff were courteous and friendly. The restaurant good and the coffee excellent.

Review 105:two out of three of us ended up with sore throats in the morning because of the airconditioning that is on all night, though don't really see what you can do about this. The laundry has an odour about it, maybe an exhaust fan in there might help

Review 106:very helpful staff, had everything you could want in an apartment, nice rooms, very good size, great block out curtains, very clean and comfortable, good location, close to everything, nice and quiet

Review 107:Not enough carparking at actual hotel but it's only a short stroll to an over flow carpark which wasn't to bad

Review 108:I was involved in an accident whilst staying there the staff members couldn't do enough to help myself or my partner out nothing was a problem to help us out

Review 109:the actually feel of the room was a little dated and in some ways looked cheep. the WiFi way a bit slow. And probably not a good room for peak hour traffic as you could hear the main road out front quite loud.

Review 110:The room was clean and had everything you would need inc in room washer and dryer as well as cooking facility's. It had WiFi and foxtel as well as a decent size TV.

Review 111:we stayed in room 111, the only complaint is the room above us, you could hear someone thumping around on the floor, maybe they were a heavy walker kept us awake. other than that no other problems.

Review 112:love the food, from breakfast to dinner

Review 113:minimal equipment in kitchen and minimal crockery.

Review 114:Lots of space and very comfortable Studio apartment - perfect for a couple with option to eat in if desired with washing machine & dryer as well as kitchenette. Free on-site parking. Nice foyer & restaurant as well. Older apartments but well presented.

Review 115:this modern meets heritage is huge. big rooms spread out over a large area. the apartments are huge. this hotel has fabulous a bath and shiney bathroom. great spot.

Review 116:Bed was as hard as a rock and very uncomfortable .

Review 117:location excellent .staff very polite and breakfast was excellent .and of course my room was as always nicely kept and clean,

Review 118:Car park was mostly full at night

Review 119:Very spacious 2 bedroom apartment Had 2 toilets Had all the self catering facilities Had free movies on foxtel channels

Review 120:Very noisy people in unit above us Management spoke to them immediately on our complaint Not peaceful until they left

Review 121:Good location Plenty of space.Comfortable.Management responded to complaint

Review 122:Very squeaky bathroom door needs some attention. Waking others at night. Advised housekeeping and they were happy to sort it out. Hardly can call that tiny strip/smokers ledge a balcony though.

Review 123:Great Bed, Plenty of parking, terrific location for easy walking to waterfront and restaurants. Happy to book again when we return. Our room was fine but others rooms smelled smokey....staff organised relocation the next day to a fresh room.

Review 124:Rooms with view are on a main road, can be a bit noisy

Review 125:Everything ,you cannot beat this place, just had our 5th stay. Loved the attention to detail, little box of Easter Eggs on Easter Sunday, reminder note slipped under the door to remind us of clocks changing.

Review 126:We liked the location, room arrangements, sliding door onto tiny balcony, kitchen fittings and equipment, space, parking..... There was everything we needed.
